Impact said to reinstall VDI and put a backup in it. I am not sure which version of VDI i need to install and where i can find my backups if i have any

clever bluff
#

@edgy roost sorry for pinging you, but i just made a new VM and used the same VDI and i start it, it still gives me the Error of home assistant CLI

#

but i can get in it

edgy roost
#

Show me a picture.

clever bluff
#

this is home assistant

edgy roost
#

If that would be the new VDI it would be empty.

edgy roost
#

Download your backups, then use the new VDI.

clever bluff
#

ok

#

lets see if i can do it

#

ok

#

last back up is 5 months old

#

💀😂

clever bluff
#

first one right?

edgy roost
#

All of them.

clever bluff
#

all of them that are 5 months old?

#

not the older ones right?

edgy roost
#

Maybe you can make a new one but if you care about your data you should have proper backups outside of the VM.

clever bluff
#

but i am not sure how to tell home assistant to send the files into that storage

clever bluff
edgy roost
#

No.

clever bluff
#

well ill just go with the old one then

#

better be safe no

edgy roost
#

Make a snapshot of the VM, then do a backup.

clever bluff
#

ok taking a snapshot right now

edgy roost
#

Backups aren't useful if they are old or inaccessible.

clever bluff
#

why?

edgy roost
#

Kinda obvious that an old backup has old data and can't be used if it's stored somewhere where you can't easily access it.

clever bluff
#

but i can access it no?

edgy roost
#

Right now yes. Earlier you couldn't.

clever bluff
#

this is what it saying for the snapshot

edgy roost
#

Hmm. No idea.

clever bluff
clever bluff
#

i am confused, do i need to this snapshot?

#

"Your problem was the same as mine, I have a Gparted VM installed in My VMlist and the *.vdi file was shared with it, (which was a live debian) So I just had to detach my vdi from this vm and try the operation again."

#

so i need to remove the VDI from the virtual machine?

#

this is with a new VM and with the new 12.2 VDI

#

what is this?

edgy roost
#

An error but I can't tell you anything about it.

clever bluff
#

i refreshed the page and it let me log in

#

what should i do with this now?

clever bluff
#

delete the other versions and now use this?

#

or do i need to do something else or idk

edgy roost
#

Yes you restore and use this from now on.

clever bluff
#

i am gonna upload everything and update everything and see what happens

edgy roost
#

You only need to upload and restore the newest full backup.

edgy roost
#

The one you just took.

clever bluff
#

i am restoring all the backups from 5 months ago…

edgy roost
#

🤷

clever bluff
edgy roost
#

I told you to make a new backup and download that.

clever bluff
#

you said you werent sure it was going to work

#

meaning it was going to break..

#

so i used the 5 months ago ones

clever bluff
#

and it’s on, but when i google homeassistant.local:8123 nothing happens

#

i think i got it sorry

clever bluff
#

@edgy roost what does “Backup is down, cannot back-up to it” mean?

edgy roost
#

What?

clever bluff
#

i am trying to do a backup of the newer thing

#

like what i had yesterday

#

with the broken one

clever bluff
edgy roost
#

Not sure. I'd google for that message.

clever bluff
#

nvm i download it

#

i am gonna try and put it in

clever bluff
#

or should i make a new VM?

edgy roost
#

I lost track of things. Try a new VM.

clever bluff
#

ok

edgy roost
#

Gonna leave the thread. Open a new one if needed.
