homeassistant@HOMEASSISTANT-PC:/home/deg$ python3 -m pip install wheel
error: externally-managed-environment

ร— This environment is externally managed
โ•ฐโ”€> To install Python packages system-wide, try apt install
python3-xyz, where xyz is the package you are trying to
install.

If you wish to install a non-Debian-packaged Python package,
create a virtual environment using python3 -m venv path/to/venv.
Then use path/to/venv/bin/python and path/to/venv/bin/pip. Make
sure you have python3-full installed.

If you wish to install a non-Debian packaged Python application,
it may be easiest to use pipx install xyz, which will manage a
virtual environment for you. Make sure you have pipx installed.

See /usr/share/doc/python3.11/README.venv for more information.

note: If you believe this is a mistake, please contact your Python installation or OS distribution provider. You can override this, at the risk of breaking your Python installation or OS, by passing --break-system-packages.
hint: See PEP 668 for the detailed specification.

wheat wasp
#

You need to create a venv, as covererd in the docs

wintry basin
#

i do

wheat wasp
#

Or... since that's Linux, just use Docker

wintry basin
#

but it claims problem

wheat wasp
#

Then you didn't activate the venv

#

Docker is the best way forwards

#

Docker removes the need for you to build Python from source

#

Docker removes all the OS dependency problems you're going to face

wintry basin
#

i whant to install home assistant od

#

os

wheat wasp
#

Well... then you have to either run a VM for it, or flash it to the computer - you can't "install" that

#

What you've done above is for HA Core

wintry basin
#

i now

#

i have a raspberry already running ha

wheat wasp
#

Then why are you using pip?

wintry basin
#

i whant to port this installation

wheat wasp
#

pip isn't what you need

wintry basin
#

i follow the guides i founf

#

on ha site

wheat wasp
#

You're following the Core part

#

You followed the OS part already?

wintry basin
#

onestly i can't answer

#

it is so far to be clear

wheat wasp
#

Link to what you followed?

#

Otherwise we're just guessing

wheat wasp
#

Oh... FFS

#

You should pick from there

wintry basin
#

i see

#

the part about pc

#

it says the same

wheat wasp
#

The "guide" you used isn't for HA OS

#

That one was for Core only, and you said you wanted HAOS

wintry basin
#

i want home assistant to work as it do now on a raspberry3

#

don't understand os core or so

#

it so confusionary

wheat wasp
#

You want OS

#

Plus there's a table in the official install docs

#

But again, you want OS and you want the link above

wintry basin
#

oh i see

#

i tried that

#

no way

#

tried to write image on disk

#

it never ever boot

#

so if that procedure does not work

#

what to do now?

#

i have to assume that in my case is not possble?

wheat wasp
#

install Proxmox and run HAOS in a VM

#

People can help you with both methods, but you have to share a lot more than a vague "mini PC" and "never boot"

#

Does the PC meet the requirements in the docs?

#

What does happen?

wintry basin
#

it seems it noy

wheat wasp
#

How did you write the image to the boot disk?

wintry basin
#

balena

#

the pc is a keex 4030

#

intel core 2

wheat wasp
#

Does it meet the requirements in the docs?

wheat wasp
wintry basin
#

it does not have the bios settings

true valley
wheat wasp
#

Please use the actual words so we don't have to try to guess or read your mind

wintry basin
#

the settings the guide ask to do

true valley
#

But short answer is no

#

It's a 32 bit PC

wheat wasp
#

what settings?

wintry basin
#

there is not in my bios

true valley
#

Home assistant OS is 64 bit

wintry basin
#

no is a 64 bit

wheat wasp
wintry basin
#

i cant post pics

Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.

Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.

wheat wasp
#

You can just use the words though

wintry basin
#

uefi boot stuff

wheat wasp
#

Then... that's your problem

#

What's the exact CPU model?

#

How much RAM does it have?

wintry basin
#

e4300 should be

#

now it is buried under heatsink

#

ram i gues at least 4gb

wheat wasp
#

Jesus...

#

That's fucking toaster

#

A Pi4 would be a big upgrade

#

That's how crap that PC is

true valley
#

Yeah I just found geekbench scores for it, it's slower than a pi 3

wintry basin
#

i now i have buy it 15 years ago

wheat wasp
#

Well... I've got stuff from 15 years ago that's not so potato

#

Even 15 years ago that wasn't fast

true valley
#

It wasn't good 15 years ago, was bottom of barrel CPU when new, let alone when it was discontinued 17 years ago.

wintry basin
#

it never pretend to be fast

true valley
#

But if you have HAOS on a pi, why would you want it on something slower? It's a downgrade

wheat wasp
#

Buy something "new" - even old second hand stuff is better than that

wintry basin
#

the statement that a raspberry is better

#

is at least 100 euros worst than this pc

wheat wasp
#

A Pi4 is faster, and can have more RAM

#

A Pi3 has less RAM, but similar CPU

wintry basin
#

infact

#

a raspberry 4 have the same limit

#

no hd

#

slow

wheat wasp
#

Plug in a USB connected SSD

true valley
wheat wasp
#

Suddenly not so slow ๐Ÿ˜‰

true valley
#

And you said you already have a pi 3

#

Also a pi 4 is not 100 euros

wheat wasp
#

Pi5 + SSD is pretty fast

But, a second hand i5 PC won't be costly, and will perform far better

wintry basin
#

i tried to put a disk on raspberry

#

no way

#

follow other guides

#

but it seems to be impossible

true valley
#

Its definitely not, all my pis run off of usb storage

wintry basin
#

anyway i cant accept that a pc can be worst than a raspberry

wheat wasp
#

You don't have to accept it, it's just true ๐Ÿ˜‰

true valley
#

A pi 3 is a decade newer pc tech

#

A pi 3 isn't better than a decade newer mini pc

wintry basin
#

this have run whit win 10

true valley
#

But that thing was junk when it was new, let alone now a decade and a half later

true valley
wintry basin
#

i tried the same

#

it is unusable on win

#

even the basic ones

wheat wasp
#

You've got three choices:

  1. ignore reality and carry on doing you
  2. Buy a Pi4 or newer and use a USB connected SSD (on a powered USB hub)
  3. Buy a second hand i5 (or something else with a CPUMark above 1K and UEFI support) for the same kind of money
true valley
#

It just invalidates your point is all. That you have win10 installed doesn't mean much when you can install windows 11 on all 64 bit capable pis

wheat wasp
#

All that needs to be said has been said... I'll leave you to make your own decisions, or ignore advice ๐Ÿ˜›

wintry basin
#

i got

true valley
#

Geekbench 6 scores for the CPU in that mini PC are considerably lower than those of the pi, due to the many many many years of tech progress between the 2

wintry basin
#

but i think you got me too

true valley
#

Let alone the pi 4 or pi 5. But you can get a 6th gen i3-i7 machine for under 50 quid at moment on eBay

wintry basin
#

i think in future i will make that

true valley
#

What ya do is wait upto a month or two, an office somewhere will be doing hardware refresh of the office computers

wintry basin
#

now i have that micipc left alone and so i think to give him a new life

true valley
#

Tends to flood eBay with bargain mini pcs

wintry basin
#

a build a lot of thing from garbage

#

in this case i have to surrend

#

so if i got it correctly

#

no way to have an hd on rasp 3

#

3b

true valley
#

There is, USB

wintry basin
#

i see only usb dongle examples

#

so i ended to think that is not possible

#

i have a classic usb disk

#

but i fail to get the rasp to see that

true valley
#

As far as usb is concerned, flash drives, SD adapters and HDDs are all just usb mass storage devices, use same protocols and drivers

#

Check your HDD had power

wintry basin
#

so i make something wrong
