#EVE and HA have gone crazy (constantly

Yesterday, Nanoleaf launched a new beta firmware. I updated my 11 bulbs and everything was fine, no re-meshing, no unavailable devices.

Then I wanted to add more bulbs and 2 of the 3 new bulbs became unavailable and didn't get available in Home Assistant. Even after an hour of waiting they were unavailable, while they worked as expected in Apple Home. However, I decided to reboot my HAOS to get them available quickly. The re-meshing procedure began after the reboot and the mesh procedure was viewable in Apple Home, too. All devices began to get available and unavailable.

Not only the 11 updated Nanoleafs, all 35 EVE devices became unavailable and got back to its latest state. Some devices do this every minute, some every 10 minutes, it varies. In Apple Home it didn’t look as dramatic as in Home Assistant, but I also saw devices coming online and going offline.

Yesterday evening I did the following:

  • rebooted my 2 Thread Border Routers > 1,5 hours later it was still re-meshing
  • removed my 2 Thread Border Routers from current > 1 hour later it was still re-meshing
  • reduced my Nanoleaf bulbs from 11 to 9 > it doesn’t stabilize the situation

My Thread network was re-meshing the whole night.

#

In the morning I did the following in hope to get to a better situation:

  1. removed more bulbs (I had 6 of my 11 on current)
  2. rebooted my TBRs
  3. 1 hour later, the same situation, everything was re-meshing
  4. removed all Nanoleafs from current
  5. rebooted my complete house (switched the main fuse off and on) Maybe a bit overkill, but I didn’t had much time, was not at home the whole day. 😃
  6. all devices connected to my TBRs and were(are) absolutely stable in Apple Home
  7. startet Home Assistant (this is round about 10 hours ago), everything goes on and offline. it doesn't stop. Never was in such a situation.

The issue seems not to be related to the Nanoleaf beta firmware, because I do not have any bulbs connected, everything is freshly restarted and all devices are rock stable in Apple Home. Only Home Assistant got crazy.

Now I still see all EVE Thread devices going on/offline constantly, even though all Nanoleaf bulbs are removed.

I am going to share the logs in some minutes.

Any idea?

What is this?

Resubscribing in 0 ms... Does that make sense?

#

@coral jacinth I would be happy, if you find the time to have a look at my log. It's 2 and half minute only, but its too much going on for pastebin. No stress, its christmas time. 😉 I think, I am going to switch my Matter server off, tomorrow.

#

@hollow minnow Did you already have a look at your Matter log? Did you find something interesting?

coral jacinth
#

Well that's if my bulbs reconnect 🙂

#

Which often they dont

vivid hill
#

Yeah, but I have no bulbs connected and I restarted my complete house. In Apple Home everything is fine.

#

Didn’t you post the Matter error codes somewhere? I do not find them anymore.

proud kelp
#

are you using the beta matter server?

vivid hill
# proud kelp are you using the beta matter server?

Thanks for this hint. The option is enabled in the configuration of the Matter addon, but auto update is disabled. I do not remember that I got a notification and install a new update. My current version is 5.0.1. Is this the beta version?

#

Is it possible to go back to stable, by disabling the option?

proud kelp
#

i would turn off beta and restart

vivid hill
#

Ok, good idea. I forgot about that option.

#

Is it enough to restart the addon or better reboot HAOS?

proud kelp
#

restart addon is fine

#

should see it downloading some version of python-matter-server in the logs. latest stable is 5.0.3

vivid hill
proud kelp
#

oh, i'm confusing things... theres 2 different version numbers. the latest matter server addon is 5.0.1.
that beta toggle is for something else the addon uses

#

if you see the release notes for matter addon 5.0.1 it will say "Bump Python Matter Server to 5.0.3" which is what i'm refering to

#

if unchecking the beta version fixes, might be a bug in the code pushed yesterday

vivid hill
#

Ok, the option is disabled and my Matter server restarted. Now I have to wait some minutes, until it’s starts finding the devices.

vivid hill
proud kelp
#

the "beta" checkbox does not refer to the matter server addon, but rather, the underlying code it uses.
so auto-updates to my knowledge are not related to the beta toggle

#

ie, you can end up downloading new beta code, with the same version of matter server

vivid hill
#

Ok, so I misunderstood that function. That may be the problem. Let’s hope so.

proud kelp
#

which, coincidentelly updated yesterday, so when you restarted thing to fix NL, you might have pulled in the new "python-matter-server" release, and that could be impacting your eve devices

vivid hill
#

That’s crazy, but possible! 😃 Let’s wait some minutes, I give you a feedback.

proud kelp
#

are these eve devices the smart plugs?

vivid hill
#

Yes:

13 Matter EVE Energies
7 Matter EVE D&W
2 Matter EVE Motion
9 HomeKit EVE Thermo
2 HomeKit EVE Weather
1 HomeKit EVE Room
1 HomeKit EVE Water Guard

Only the Matter devices are paired to Home Assistant.

#

Ok, all devices are there. But I need to wait a bit to be sure.

proud kelp
#

but all of them were going crazy" or just the smart plugs? curious because I could test the beta version with my smart plug next week to see if i run into problems with it

vivid hill
#

No, all of them.

#

I don’t think, that this was my solution. I already see 2 or more became unavailable messages on some devices.

#

🙃

proud kelp
#

can you send a new log?

vivid hill
#

Give me some minutes. 😉

proud kelp
#

yeah no problem. the logs in your last one led me to believe it was related to the beta releases. if the errors look the same, then I have no idea. if they look different, maybe i can help more lol

vivid hill
#

OK, I see this in my log:

Dec 23 22:32:29 homeassistant addon_core_matter_server[413]: Downloading python_matter_server-5.1.1-py3-none-any.whl.metadata (14 kB)

proud kelp
#

uhh thats the beta

vivid hill
#

Hm..., its not allowed to pastebin more then 512kb. One moment

proud kelp
#

99% of your last pastebin is the same error message you don't need that much of it

#

but i'm assuming its the same issue based on that version.
I would think that restarting the addon would be enough? but maybe it isn't. the message says its recommended to make a backup of the matter addon before enabling. so idk if you need to remove and re-add the addon entirely. I wouldn't want to mess up your install though

vivid hill
#

My post was not complete...

proud kelp
#

just, does it contain : raise KeyError(f"No Schema found for Attribute

vivid hill
vivid hill
vivid hill
#

That's from the beta server?

proud kelp
#

yeah same error, same beta version.

#

i can't confirm its that, but sure looks like it.
could try removing and readding the addon if you hadn't made a backup. (though again, i thought just turning it off and restarting should have been enough)

vivid hill
#

OK, let me try to reboot my HAOS.

proud kelp
#

^ those are the releases that beta checkbox is refering to

vivid hill
#

OK, thanks. I am restarting my HAOS.

hollow minnow
#

Seems way more stable now

#

Unchecked beta

vivid hill
#

Let’s wait some minutes…

#

But don’t see any became unavailable messages and I can control the devices that are already there. 😃👍

#

Thank you so much

#

So much smaller... 😄

#

Don't look at all the DNS timeouts. These are my Nanoleaf bulbs without power. 😉

proud kelp
#

👍

vivid hill
#

Yes, the devices are mostly back. I do not see any crazy on/offline things! Thank you so much1 Merry Christmas!

proud kelp
#

welcome.
sounds like this is a recurring issue, curious if i can recreate with my eve device next week

vivid hill
#

Are you already using HA with Thread or Matter?
