#The interesting question is, how @

haha that is a very interesting question and unfortunately I only receive very sparely test devices so most of it I have to buy myself which is also cumbersome as I'm in the EU where products available are very limited. Also, some matter lightbulbs are ok to purchase for testing but a whole fridge or vacuum will be a bit more cumbersome. I'll probably just try to implement it blind and wait for someone to actually purchase it to see how (bad) it works π
Ok, is there any budget you get for new test equipment from Nabu Casa? π
Yes I do fortunately but I guess I do not get budget to buy a test fridge π
Yes, thatβs the point. You need thousands of Euros. π
Is it possible to donate what you and the other developers do for Matter (over Thread)?
The best way to donate is by subscribing to Nabu Casa. That is what pays our salary and we can buy test gear from that. Like I said, we can actually buy the test gear like light bulbs etc. from our subscriptions so no issue there but a multi hundred dollar washing machine or fridge is a leap too far for now, especially considering the fact that these devices are still very sparse. I'm pretty sure that if these become more common and we actually have users that want to use them and we need to fix issues, we can actually buy such a device but we only do so when it makes sense to not waste the valuable contribution money. Hope you get the point.
Also, my wife is now sometimes getting crazy from my experiments throughout the house with small electrical devices, imagine what happens if I start testing with a washing machine or huge fridge. I guess I'll be banished from the house then π
Oh yes! I am experimenting with home automation since 2015. I had some interesting situations with my wife over time. But my environment is fortunately mostly stable. π
Yeah, mine as well. I have a very nice test bench in my office where I do all experiments but sometimes I just need to reproduce a real life situation. A few weeks ago I replaced some light bulbs throughout the house with the Nanoleaf ones to investigate that issue. That was not very well accepted by my family so placed the original bulbs back. Let's just say I reproduced the issue very well.
