HA needs working internet to install and set up, but after that you can cut it off

Yes, I know and that is ok. But is sees that there in nobody that have used MODBUS when I search for it among the projects. Tips?

There's a native modbus integration, not sure what you mean

paper owl
#

Modbus via the GPIO? Most people une Modbus TCP

west zinc
#

You didn't say anything about gpio

#

You said RTU, and the doc say that's supported

#

Network connected, yes, not gpio connected

paper owl
#

No, but how can I use Mosbus RTU wiyhout using the I/O pins? I´m going to connect a rs232/rs485 converter.

#

Ok, just via ethernet then?

west zinc
#

The communication to the device/devices can be serial (rs-485), TCP, or UDP connections

paper owl
#

By that do you mean that I must use a USB/485 converter?

west zinc
#

You can use serial or you can use network connected

#

Most people probably use network connected so it'll be easier to get help if you go that way

paper owl
#

OK. Can I present values on the dashboard that I have read via Modbus directly? Or status on a GPIO pin?

west zinc
#

If there's an entity in HA you can display it

paper owl
#

It seems that most peopls here loves everything that is wireless and I want cables.

west zinc
#

Networking can be wired too 😉

#

And people here recommend that over WiFi

paper owl
#

Ok 🙂

#

If I install HA on my PI, can I after that disconnect it from ethernet and use it with only a keyboard, mouse and a monitor? Without any network?

west zinc
#

Well, yes, but no, but maybe

#

HAOS has no local display, other than for the command line

#

Container is the only install that'd allow you to run a local display

#

(don't touch Supervised)

paper owl
#

But can I use only one computer (PI) and run the dashboard there also? Via container?

west zinc
#

Yes

#

Though hopefully you're going to use the Pi4, not the 3 (or lower)

#

You'll want more than 1 GB of RAM

paper owl
#

I have a PI 3 model B v1.2 laying..... 🙂

#

With a SD card 16Gb

west zinc
#

Yeah.... no

#

You need to at least double the size of the SD card (or better, use an SSD), and don't even think about running HA and a local GUI on that toy

paper owl
#

Aha..... 🙂 Good to know!

#

OK, I´m away to the shop.... 🙂 Thanx!!!
