Hi, I have a mini PC in my garage that I would like to use as both a spare computer (mostly watch videos, surf the internet, etc.) while also being host to my Home Assistant OS (and maybe other services down the road).

I'll preface that I am a complete novice and reading some recommendations I installed Proxmox 8 and then installed Home Assistant OS as one of the VMs there. I am realizing that by doing this I gain the benefits of managing my VMs from my main PC inside the house, but I lose the ability to use my mini PC for my main functions in the garage.

I read that proxmox wasn't really designed to be an OS with a desktop manager (although reading through you can do so). Any recommendations on how to install Home Assistant OS while also maintaining basline computer functions?

Debian or Ubuntu + KVM/your choice of UI VM manager

Thanks! Any suggestions on where to start and/or a reasonable tutorial guide?

I doubt there is one guide, but once you've picked your OS you can find a guide for the VM side and then HA has docs for installing in VMs
