#Device tracker not updating zone
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
The device tracker also has a location (lat/long) linked to it, shown on a map, does that update correctly?
So did the location change at all, or is the device tracker stuck at the same lat/long?
(That location is used by your server to update the state/zone)
The device is not shown on the Map tab of HA. If I search Settings/Entities for "long" or "lat" (or "location" which is odd because I can plainly see "sensor.pixel_4_xl_geocoded_location in the list, so the entity search in HA apparently sucks) there are no matches. Anyway, scrolling through 80+ entries I don't see it. btw geocoded_location shows as Disabled. Here's something: Settings / Devices / click on Pixel 4 XL there's a panel labeled Diagnostic which shows Pixel 4 XL - Home, and if I click on that line there's a popup with Attributes at the bottom, and if I click to expand that, it shows Latitude/Longitude and some other stuff (Source=GPS). So .... somehow this popup knows about Lat/Lng but they don't appear as entities anywhere??
lat/long is an attribute of the device tracker
You should have an entity device_tracker.pixel_4_xl
Is the device tracker linked to a person (Settings > People)?
I do have that entity and it does have those attributes. I thought I had linked this tracker to me, but I can't see any linkage while looking at it in Settings/Entities.
I do see it under People / Jeff. Track Device = Pixel 4 XL. Below that it says "Pick device to track" and "No matching entities found".
Sounds good
And the history for the person entity also doesn't show it changing zones?
At this point maybe it's also good to ask if other sensors update correctly, also when away from home?
All day Sunday it says Home.
It shouldn't, I went to Lowes.
Hmm, maybe not. Battery level seems to have not gotten an update between 4:49 and 6:18.
This HA isn't exposed to public. I guess if an update doesn't get sent before it gets out of wifi range (and the 192.168 IPs stop working), it won't work.
Yes it needs to be able to access your server
So the device tracker might be working correctly after all
Yeah I can't depend on it knowing it's going out of range and sending an update before it does. That would be too much to ask.
If you want home/away functionality you could look for an integration for your router, device tracker based on whether the phone is connected to WiFi or not
Interesting thought.
If your server isn't exposed the app won't be able to do much here, sorry
