Did you not read the rest of that conversation?

Looks like the subject change. Will try to read again

#

There were a lot of points there, and rather than me repeating it all again I just want to ensure you've actually read it

primal quail

I read it. I had the same question as who asked in first place: how and if it was possible to install Plex media server on the HA. Looks like it's a bad idea, which I accept. Next question would be "ok then, what do I need?"
Looks like the subject changed to other kind of questions. If there are some guides over the internet I'd read them, because all I can find are tutorials on how to install plex software ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  1. Pi4 makes a shitty server, doubly so for Plex
#
  1. HAOS is not a general purpose server OS
primal quail
#

Great. So I'd say I need an additional server (Would another raspberry work?) where I can install only the software

#

A Pi, for Plex?

#

๐Ÿคฃ

primal quail
#

I don't know ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

#

That's why I'm asking haha

ocean yoke
#

That's why I asked if you'd read the posts there, because they were pretty brutal about how shit a Pi is for Plex

primal quail
#

Yeah I noticed. I thought it was because Plex would run on the same machine

ocean yoke
#

Well, there were two points

#
  1. The Pi is not a good server
  2. The Pi is underpowered for Plex
#

If you want a good plex server then that's more #hardware-archived - or the Plex forums - since it depends on your storage and transcoding needs

primal quail
#

I see. I thought it would have been easier

#

Thank you very much for your answers and sorry if I made you waste time

ocean yoke
#

If you want can stream and not transcode then you can get by on a Pi

#

If you don't know what that means then ... you've got a lot of learning to do

primal quail
#

Yeah I guess! ๐Ÿ™‚

#

I just wanted a place where to place my tv shows and play them from wherever

#

but looks like it's harder than i thought

ocean yoke
#

Well, it might be, but it's not a simple answer

#

If all your media is suitable encoded for all your playing devices then you can stream, not transcode, just fine from a Pi

#

If it isn't then you need to be able to transcode, and then many other factors come into play

primal quail
#

Usually i download stuff, put on a pen drive and then i move the pen drive. If the file can be accessed from the pen drive I'd say they can be accessed from the Pi as well

#

Without any transcoding

ocean yoke
#

Right, so ... format is anybody's guess... that's what I expected

primal quail
#

So maybe it is feasable with the Pi ๐Ÿค”

ocean yoke
#

If the media is suitably encoded for your players

#

There's Plex documentation that covers that in depth

primal quail
#

I see

#

Thank you
