I believe it's possible through the Tuya app and bridge, so I would expect it to be something that can be set at the firmware level

Do you know if there is there any way to update firmware for these without getting a Tuya bridge?

Depends on what they support, some are configurable, others aren't

#

Some support configuring in ZHA, some in Z2M, some in both, some in neither

#

The Aqara P1 is configurable in Z2M, no idea about ZHA
