I would like to understand how the thread integration with the sky connect USB Stick is intended to work.

#

I have a running HA instance, and I have a Sky Connect USB stick plugged in running and being detected so far.

#

Now what I do not understand is: HOW do I get thread running?? As far as I understand the Thread integration in HA is relying on a TBR. But I can not find any info on how to get the sky connect stick running as a TBR.

#

What am I missing?

Are you running HA OS?

#

When you set up a sky connect in HA OS it will install an addon (the multi protocol addon) and that will upgrade your sky connect to thread capable firmware

#

It includes the OTBR service

#

Then it installs an OTBR integration in HA that will automatically configure the OTBR service with a new thread network

#

If you haven’t had that happen, look in setting/hardware, there should be a button that triggers it

#

Not HA OS? You have to flash new firmware manually and configure everything manually. There’s not really any documentation yet, HAOS is the priority.

#

The thread integration is distinct to the OTBR integration. It provides a place for HA to store connection details for thread networks, which other integrations can query when they want to add a device to your thread network.

#

It also services as a place to access diagnostics for your thread networks

#

(For OTBR and non-OTBR users)

#

When we provision things with homekit_controller, we use an existing securing pairing over Bluetooth to write thread encryption keys and channels and such from the thread integration to the device. The device then moves over to thread and we update the pairing in HA to use thread as well.

#

For matter it’s a little more complicated as the iOS and Android frameworks are needed to help us do the initial setup.

#

The Android (beta) will try to sync thread credentials to and from the thread integration when you start matter setup.

#

iOS should be able to do this too, but not yet

ok understood

#

the addon multiprotocol is not available for supervised installs, right?

All I can tell you is that HAOS is the priority for development at the moment

If you don’t see the multi protocol addon then no it’s not
