Just went back and looked, his first video basically turns his bed into a giant scale which is what I want so I can hopefully accurately determine bed occupancy by know my wife's weight, my own, and each of the pets (dogs x2, cat x1).
His second video is a binary state sensor, which might be better for a couch, unless you have a dog that gets up on the couch even when they're not supposed to...Which now makes me think this could actually be used to scold my bigger dog when she decides she's allowed on the couch when no one is home.
Could always put some sort of "weight range". So, if DOG'S WEIGHT is applied to couch AND people are gone, execute scolding.
Yup...I guess I should just take the plunge and buy these sensors and deal with the 50kg x 4 problem later.
or rather determine if it is a problem.
I have buttons on my tablet for Good Night and Good Morning routines.
I would be inclined to trigger those via time and/or light/contact switch activation. Like the bathroom door closing for the morning pee.
But, to each their own.
I wish I could access the sleep sensor of the Nest Home Hub, gen2.
True. I keep the bathroom on its own routine.
fyi: I just dm'd Lewis to ask about the 200kg limit and if it was a problem.
That's the flow you shared with me originally when I was sorting out lights.
Which lead to this nonsense:
My phone has a sleep confidence sensor but it seems a bit wonky at times.
Yeah. When there are different sensors that determine if a timer should be running or not or turning lights on/off, it can get a bit complex.
I charge my phone/watch/airpods in a different room, otherwise I'm too tempted to use my phone when I should be sleeping.
An RFID sticker on a wireless charging pad/stand could be useful for that set-up.
Or you could use the "is charging" sensor of the HA app
true. but I randomly charge my phone at different times throughout the day
exactly. I use a charging dock in the car (and GPS to get everywhere) so that sensor wouldn't work well for me.
In my case, I could also incorporate "is dashcam connected to WiFi" into the decision tree
