You should have been able to just overload the blueprint, and the automations would have been very close to working. Just add the topic.

#

As it is that error in the log means there a blueprint automation still hanging in somewhere and trying to refer to the blueprint that's not there.

sacred hull
#

Yea the helpers show the entities as no longer being exposed

west ridge
#

Depending on what you updated from, the cube name may have changed from a sensor to a topic, so that would be a lot different.

sacred hull
#

The actual state of the cube side etc are still changing from 1 etc

#

I updated from the 12-22 version to fix the rotate angle issue you fixed

#

i'm not sure how to troubleshoot or proceed but willing to try whatever

west ridge
#

22 to 28 would have only needed the blueprint deleted and re-imported...
Do you have a backup from yesterday you can load?

sacred hull
#

yeah i do but i'd rather just delete and start fresh if you think that would do it. i only have a few automations to redo on each cube

#

haos wouldnt let me delete the blueprint with the automations created from it so that's why i did my steps above

west ridge
#

Most blueprint writers make minimal canges to the structure so automations made on a prior rev almost always work on a new blueprint version. Never delete the automations unles you have to...

#

Just go in and delete that file

sacred hull
#

is there a way to force it to recreate the helpers?

#

cuz that is what is missing and i think the only issue

west ridge
#

The helpers are genned by the blueprint. You can go in deviceand remove them there.

sacred hull
#

generated each time a new automation is made from the blueprint?

west ridge
#

Seriously I would recover yesterday snapshot if it were me.

sacred hull
#

yeah

#

i can always do that

west ridge
#

They are actually regenned everytime the automation runs, unless they are already there.

#

It sends a discovery topic on every run, and if it's there, nothing happens. If it's not, it makes one. Pretty slick, actually

#

so just deleting the helper devices would fix that.

sacred hull
#

yea sounds cool. i just deleted the entity in the picture above then toggled a cube automation and it didnt seem to come bakc

#

i dont see an option to delete the entire helper device

#

or do you mean via mqtt explorer

west ridge
#

You can kill them in the broker as well, that works. I didn'tknow if you would know about that.

sacred hull
#

ah i see it

#

hmm

#

so

#

number_helper came back

#

but not blueprint helper

west ridge
#

when building this for testing I had MQTT-Explorer open and I just nuked them every time to get clean new set with the new parameters

sacred hull
#

the last side entity still shows unavailable for the number_helper entity it just recreated

#

i changed quite a few things since yesterday inside hass

#

i think it's less work to start fresh with these cube automations vs the other way around lol

#

i appreciate your help either way, i understand how it works a bit more now

west ridge
#

There is only the 1 helper to store the last side.

sacred hull
#

each cube has two here

#

although the upstairs cube now only has one because i deleted both expecting two to show back up

west ridge
#

I must have changed the name convention or somethinf along the line, don't remember. There's only the 1 in my blueprint code.

sacred hull
#

ok

#

i'll blow it all away and start fresh then

#

so in the future

#

do i just manually delete blueprint file and copy over new and that's it?

#

i was weary about using your suggested blueprint updater script instead of just manually downloading a new one

#

seemed simple enough at the time lol

west ridge
#

The script I found can mess with other blueprints I've found from others. It works with mine though. But yes. Move, or rename, or delete the old blueprint and import new. That's the best starting point

sacred hull
#

kk

#

regarding the helper it makes - once i move the cube from side to side it should have a number not "unavailable" correct?

#

because it doesnt 😦

#

(i just deleted all helpers + automations + blueprint) then downloaded blueprint again and created new automation

#

the errors in log are gone now though

#

not coming back when moving sides

#

and the actual automations are working, so i suppose it's working as intended

#

ahh nvm we're all good

west ridge
#

sounds like it.

sacred hull
#

i see the last side changing to the correct numbers

#

really appreciate it, definitely a neat blueprint. I'll certainly have to look at your code on github to see how to do it right if i'm ever brave enough to make a blueprint of my own

#

think i'm gonna print your cube holder off thingiverse too

west ridge
#

Cool, that's why it's there.

sacred hull
#

i gave it a like a while back but havent printed yet

#

looks like your print needed a couple extra walls to keep the infill from showing through

#

i kinda like it like that though

west ridge
#

I am trying to work with the Z2M guys to get the last side into the attributes for the 180 flip. That's all that thing is for...

#

I didn't design that, but you are right. I see the infill in the sides.

sacred hull
west ridge
#

The guy that designed it didn't want to deal with people bugging him about it so he let me post it for him.

sacred hull
#

ah yeah

#

dont blame him people expect way too much and have attitudes a lot of times

#

crazy

#

the design isnt really the issue though, just when slicing if they put like 4 walls or maybe even 3 it would keep infill from showing through most likely

#

you know what.. i bet glow in the dark filament would be great for the holder

west ridge
#

ok

sacred hull
#

if i print one i'll post a make πŸ˜›

west ridge
#

glow in the dark top layers...

sacred hull
#

well problem with glow in the dark is it needs uv to "charge"

#

so it might not glow like a nuclear reactor but it would prob still have a tiny bit of glow which would be cool for nighttime when reaching over for the cube

west ridge
#

Sneak a couple of color change LED's between the infill and out the back after the first 15 layers or so print.

#

Always wanted to do that on something.

sacred hull
#

oh dont get me started on leds

#

i think i have like 20 wled projects around the house now

west ridge
#

I was thinking a couple of the simple color change LED's, not wLED...

sacred hull
#

ah i jumped straight into esp32 and individually addressable

#

never really played with traditional leds lol

#

i have wanted to try that elwire though

#

need for small projects i think

west ridge
#

Those color change one cycle thru the colors at a random timing, and only need a series resistor and usb cable.

sacred hull
#

ah cool

#

bit cheaper and simpler than throwing an esp into the mix

#

i have translucent PLA loaded in a printer so i'm gonna go ahead and print one out of that
