I was able to update HACS and the 2 other cards that needed to be updated but any add-ons are still not able to be updated.

Are you sure your HA is bound to the right interface in proxmox, if it has >1?
Is the IP address correct?

it is connected to vmbr0 and has a static IP set within HA and a DHCP reservation set on pfSense.

I am using VLANs and have tagged the correct VLAN for the interface and for HA to be on and I was successful in getting an IP on other devices on other VLANs on the same vmbr0.

other containers within HA OS have internet but the main system does not. SSH add-on can ping google. HACS can update apps.

why make it static within HA? Let it get the dhcp

fwiw I'm using haos and proxmox and pfsense here, on latest versions, all OK

since I have started with HA, everyone always says set a static IP. I can set to DHCP to see if it fails. but then I may not be able to get the web UI

I never set a static in HA, just in dhcpd

its mostlikely a dns issue if the stuff in the containers work

they all use the same ip for outgoing connections as the vm os itself

yeah, check where your /etc/resolv.conf points to
(if you make it static, that's another place that can be wrong)

just leave it all to dhcp-client

I use pi-hole for my IoT but I made sure to set HA to use pfSense for DNS.

rebooted VM and so far-so good. No time sync issue and it booted a lot faster. just checking updates now.
