Your first choice is to pick ZHA (built into HA) or Zigbee2MQTT (external) - see the pinned messages here
Once you've made that choice you pick the coordinator (CC2652 based for Z2M, either CC2652 or EZSP based for ZHA)
Then you get to mix and match a bunch of brands of devices, the only strong advise is:
- Avoid Tuya unless you know that specific device is good
- Sonoff's sensors are often reported as being problematic
- Osram that isn't Zigbee 3.0 should be avoided
Oh wow! That is wonderful answer. First of all, thank you for providing keywords, at least I can google it. Secondly, thank you for listing vendors that are problematic. Lastly, do you mind to name few vendors that reliable?
Well, reliable becomes a game of budget and care
del
Hue, Ikea, Innr, Sengled, Xiaomi (with a little care), and the new (Zigbee 3.0) Osram
Hue are kind of the gold standard, and you pay for it
Xiaomi are the bargain buy, and they can be fussy about their routers (see the pinned message about them), but they're very hard to beat
My setup is mostly Gledopto, Ikea, Innr, Linkind, Xiaomi, and Terncy
Oh, and a Develco "mini" multi-sensor
All of those are solid, I have no issues with them
I do have an Osram that is never getting used again, and a bunch of Konke (who're now out of business) that I'd also not recommend
Oh yes, and a Lidl (Silvercrest) LED strip
A lot of it will really be a game of I need a thing to do X or I have problem X, what should I get and people can suggest what's worked well for them
People will be able to point to specific devices to buy/avoid
For reference, my list of current and past stuff is https://github.com/DubhAd/Home-AssistantConfig/blob/live/hardware.md
Thank you so much!
