I don t seem to be able to add any zwave

I'm trying to add new GE light switches ( 25 ft away but 1 foot from another working GE switch ), or 2 blinds that are next to other working zwave blinds and feet from another working GE light switch, or a zwave repeater that plugs into a wall socket and have tried all over the house, even 1 foot from the zooz dongle.
Shouldn't I see something in the logs or in the controller stats when I kick off a "add device"?
I'll add that I've tried a couple network heals too. I've also connected the blinds to the original zwave remote to prove they still work and reset them and the remote and tried to add them again and everything just times out.
