#VM does not boot

Did you do OS update to 9.1? There were some networking issues on some installs. You can't even view the boot proces or tap into host terminal? Easiest would be to create new VM and restore backup, takes 5 minutes.
I tried
unfortunately, all I have is a partial backup
I started fresh with the newest VDI image available, then restored the largest "known to be working" backup only to find out that it had all the data but none of the add-ons, etc. So it looks like it would be as much work to fresh install and rebuild than to try fixing my old installation
I'd like to mount both the 9.1 image and my old image as secondary drives on a linux VM, then copy everything but the supervisor from old to new. Is that possible?
or better yet, are there some debug logs I can activate to get more details about what causes the system to bork?
allright. I decided to try something and I think I might be able to restore to a workable state
I mounted a new VDI (9.1) in parallel with the old one, and started copying things from old to new. It looks promising. The first boot gave me an error, though
image "xyz" does not exist for addon_xyz. So I'll restore a copy of the vdi I made before booting and will try to locate where this image could be stored
