to add to this and perhaps that answers my question whether I should even do this - I'm currently holding off buying any new zigbee devices because I'm hoping to jump on the thread hype train 🙃

No, don't move things, that's a great way of screwing up the mesh

Start by working out where all the mains powered devices, the routers, will go. Pair those first, starting near the controller and spiralling out. Then connect the end devices.

All of that is done with the devices in their final location, and where appropriate using the option to join via a specific router.

ah yes that makes sense, thanks. but don't I have to move devices to the antenna to reset them if they're already paired with a different network (the previous one)?
