I did finally sort this out with the help of @brazen knoll . I created a second mqtt user account, read up a little on MQTT, and changed my output string in the rtl configs to add event and state info. All good now, thank you! output line:
output mqtt://<HomeAssistantServer>.local:1883,user=rtl_mqtt_01,pass=<pass>,devices=rtl_433_02/devices[/type][/model][/subtype][/channel][/id],events=rtl_433_02/events[/model][/id],states=rtl_433_02/states[/model][/id]
