Solved. Sometimes I swear you can be stuck on something for days and the act of asking someone else makes the problem suddenly reveal itself. Not rubber ducking, just, it wasn't visible until I asked. I hadn't realised there was an "Application Credentials" section hidden behind the three dots menu that contained some old credentials from previous attempts.
