Hi dont know if this right place to ask, but try to fix today why not getting custom cards working my Hass.IO. First time try to get them working, use picture elements view on my tablet and try to add custom cards there but not worked. Every time i try add custom card i get this error (now try to get this working, but i try other custom cards too and they not worked)

I have a strange issue that I need help trying to resolve. I had trouble updating from .104.3 to .105.x. Lovelace would not load and no error messages in ny of my logs. What I have tried is updating and then using samba to modify my Config to just the default and also delete lovelace file. This allowed me to load lovelace in my browser. I then slowly added my configuration.yaml and rebooted to test to see if there were any issues. There were none. I then started addin my HACS custom devices and all that I had before added with no issues. I can reboot and lovelace loads. I then started adding my cards. After one added, I could not load Lovelace after a reboot. They only way that I was able to get Lovelace back was to start again with a default config and no lovelace. This makes no sense. How come it doesn't load safe mode? Again, there are no errors in the logs. Is there anyway for me to try and figure out what the issue is?

@heavy pasture in 0.105 safe mode activates when there is an issue with your core configuration. 0.106 adds safe mode if there is issues with lovelace

I have tried in the raw editor. I was going to switch over to yaml mode, but it failed again.

The errors were manifest json, iconset.js and I believe a lovelace error. Not up right now. Trying again.

.104.3 works great. I have had all types of issues trying to update. First, nothing shows in the config check. I have 11 breaking issues listed, but none of them are any of my addons.

Why I have been trying is slowly load my configuration.yaml, reboot and then see if it loads. All of it has loaded. I then try loading lovelace HACS add on. This seems to work. When I start added my old cards, lovelace fails to load

I have the code saved in a txt file and I add each card one by one to the raw editor.

Without any errors, it is hard to figure out which custom integration / component / add in is preventing lovelace from loading.

hmm, websocket issues shouldn't be be related to Lovelace changes

Unless the backend is rate limiting the frontend because of bad behavior...I do lots of Lovelace dev work, but am not too knowledgable about the websocket behavior

I am a fairly new user, less than 8 months, but I am familiar with coding. I am a retired ee and understand directions, etc. I know I am most likely using something that is custom, untested, etc that is causing the issue. I would like to help and make it better. Just need more knowledge to try and figure out what is going wrong.

@wheat current What does they did not read mean? I May have a different issue also. I just added to my config.yaml file just the line to change lovelace to yaml. Did a restart and lovelace loaded, but no other tab worked correctly. Right now I am trying a ha core rebuild. My configuration.yaml right now is very basic (default plus lovelace and duckdns). Lovelace is just what HA built. No custom cards added. I have tried a fresh install and using my current lovelace and configuration as a guide I tried to build a similar system. I would only get so far and I would be back in the same lovelace not loading boat. I also tried a fresh install and restore a snapshot and that failed to load lovelace. Something in the code changed from .104.3 to .105 that is causing me issues with my custom system.

Hi there, I have a problem with my UI setup: I use the custom:floorplan-card to integrate an SVG-file with some nice effects, etc. into lovelace. This works all very well without issues. However, when navigating on the left menu to another page in HA (e.g., from lovelace to profile or from supervisor to community) to whole web page gets stuck. Also reloading does not work. The browser needs to "stop the webpage" because it hang. When then loading from scratch the webpage gets loaded without a problem, but again navigating to another page gets the browser stuck. This could be verified with firefox, chrome (desktop) and fully kiosk (pad). Any help, suggestion?

I am sure it is something to do with your ui-lovelace.yaml. Start simple...one card at a time. You mentioned Did a restart and lovelace loaded, but no other tab worked correctly. Sounds like issues with ui-lovelace.yaml

When I added in my configuration.yaml the Lovelace.yalm mode and rebooted the overview that shows Lovelace loaded. All the other tabs had errors. When I reverted back all the tabs work again.

I just got HAC up and running. When installing custom cards for love lace, I add the two lines to the lovelace raw config (type: module, and the URL to the .js file)

@icy patrol I haven't used state-switch to 'swap' cards depending on the state of an entity much, but AFAIK it has to hold the place in your lovelace view so it has a place to display when the state matches. Not the same way that a conditional-card does. Which sounds like you may be thinking of 🤷🏻‍♂️

aw sorry really the last one 🙂 The iframe card allows scrolling the image within it. Can I avoid that? When it's on my cellphone instead of scrolling down the UI to the next card, I scroll the map within the iFrame

Rright click the 3 dots in the upper right and select configure UI. Then click the + sign to add a new tab. I have one I named Testing. I try new cards there and once happy with them i click the 3 dots on the card and move it to my home screen.

With the latest push, I love the map being in the more info when clicking a person entity...but it clamps the map extent to the ground, and even if you zoom out, it zooms right back in - and I can't tell where someone is. Is this only me, or is this a bug?

Since the latest update, my Garbage Collection card is bugging out, I found out that mod-card is giving issues and it just outputs a red card with an error.
I found out that changing mod-card to auto-entities helped it function again.
However now my whole home screen is empty and not showing any cards anymore.

My current code uses a custom:auto-entities for the card type, and custom:card-templater for the 3 garbage picture-entities.

Why are you using mod-card with a card that has a ha-card element? Mod-card is the workaround to be avoided at all cost.
How can auto-entities replace mod-card? They do totally different things

I'd recommend you start over with this one. And work from the inside out. Start with the picture-entities card, then add style: to that, and then - once that's all working - wrap each picture-entities in card-templater.

Has anyone profiled the front end? The entities page is very slow to respond and makes safari and chrome unresponsive when you have say 700 entities,.

Also there seems to be bugs with removing entities. I select all matching a filter, and I go to delete, I have 40 selected and it's like do you want to delete 3? I click yes any way then my selection always says 0

Also, noticed last night if you have any automations or scripts defined in yaml on disk. You can go through adding a new one via the ui but it never saves. It doesn't tell you why, this is a bad experience.

Anyone want to take a swap at this and help me understand what I am doing incorrectly. this is the code that Dinotech provide to me last night after trying out a few other options for using layout card https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/ydgmr4Xj6r/ this is what I am getting from the UI https://imgur.com/h9IjDUC. @vapid field in HACS, you have to make sure you integrate that into your lovelace raw UI,

Edited: Some plugins will have you click a button to add it automatically, some don't. This one doesn't, you have to add it manually

It should ask you to click on it, and in your lovelace UI, if you click "edit raw config" you have to add that line:

haven't tried that card myself, but the only thing I can see is that in the example the thresholds are the other way, starting with low and goes up while you have the other order

Oh, I misread the docs. The data_template would be instead of data in a regular automation etc - but for a tap_action you'd have to replace service_data... but I'm not sure if there's such a thing as service_data_template

I think the issue is that the tap_action doesn't support templating, so you'll have to take a more roundabout approach. Create a script, hit the menu button for the first action/step in the sequence and choose to "Edit as YAML" (as the UI doesn't support data_template) and paste in:

data_template:
  datetime: '{{ now().strftime(''%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S'') }}'
entity_id: input_datetime.plants_time
service: input_datetime.set_datetime

Then once you've saved the script, edit it again and check the URL for its ID (i.e. script.1582973996257), and put that into the following in your card:

Fair enough. I'm pretty sure the price of the Mi Flora sensors went up after I bought my first batch, and not by a small amount either. They're pretty good though, a complete drop-in BLE sensor - and you can either add them directly to HA, or (as I've switched to due to reliability issues with bluetooth on the Compute Stick I run HA on) an ESP32 with ESPHome, which just listens to the sensors' BLE broadcasts and relays the state back to HA

I've had an automation set up to switch between the default theme and a "dark" theme based on time of day for quite a while now, but I'm having some trouble when trying to set up a separate theme for use on a greyscale e-ink screen (one theme for all times of the day). I'm getting weird crossover between the "backend-selected" theme (the dark one right now) and the manually selected theme - for instance, I can't convince the text within cards (other than their headers) to be visible, because it's white in the "dark" theme and my e-ink theme makes the card backgrounds white. Does anyone know a way to stop this crossover?

It's quite odd - the ha-card polymer component seems to set the --primary-text-color to white all by itself when the "dark" theme is enabled on the backend - even though I'm specifically setting primary-text-color: '#000000' in my manually selected theme

I keep getting my tablet which logs in using it's own account and I have 'Custom Header' installed and this use automatically goes into KIOSK mode... The thing is.. every 45-60secs it does a page reload/refresh.. is this normal? can it be stopped? it's distracting when you see it out the corner of your eye have the page refresh

Hey, I have a history stats sensor that I want to display a graph of. I would like a bar chart, with a bar for each day. I have the interval set to start at 00:00:00, and it ends at now. The sensor displays the proper time, but I am unsure how to display it in a meaningful way. I tried mini-graph-card but I couldn't get it to display the right values ..

Not sure if this is a front end question, but I'm having a problem accessing my HA web from an old ipad 2. It just skips the uname/pw form and says "accessing from [HA LAN ip address]" before it says "something went wrong" . All other devices works just fine. Hey all, good evening. I feel a little bit lost and I need some advice. What is the best practice (in your opinion ofc) to create a Lovelace dashboard? In my actual setup I divided rooms to tabs and I can't be sure is it useful or not? So what do you prefer? See your entire home in one page or divide the rooms, floors etc to tabs and pages. I have an overview tab (showing all the lights and sockets that are currently on, the rooms that are occupied, windows and doors open), a tab for HA Floorplan, one tab for each floor, and then a bunch of admin tabs

I have a Ikea tradfri gateway couple months ago HA still thinks that there is a device but I totally disconnect it from network so it stuck somehow and send notifications time to time

I feel like I might be stepping on a land mine here, but what's the deal with areas and groups? Areas can be configured on the front end, but I can't really figure out what to do with them past there. I can't add areas to an entities panel to toggle things on and off in them. I can configure groups in the configuration YAMLs, and then I can add them to the front end entity panel.

Is this just an oversight or are areas intentionally not set up for this type of use case? If not, what use case do areas really have?

I'm trying to make a device-specific theme, and I currently have backend-selected themes based on time of day. For some reason, the primary-text-color in the device-specific theme is being ignored if the backend-selected theme is a custom theme which also changes primary-text-color - so I end up with white text inside white cards, making it unreadable. Does anyone know how to either make the device-specific theme "reset to defaults" before applying, or to at least force its primary-text-color to "win" over the other theme's?

It seems weird that it tries to apply both themes - I would've expected manually selecting a theme to override the backend-selected theme, not to apply on top of it.

I have a view that has like 50 cards in it that were auto generated like media_player.plex_chrome_7 etc. Since I took control of the lovelace UI It won't let me delete that view because it has cards in it. Is there any way to delete those cards in bulk? Deleting them one at a time is extremely tedious and I want to avoid it.

I'll see if that works, after I've removed the 'Lovelace' section. Last time I clicked 'Configure UI', it told me that I needed to take care of everything myself, and when I clicked to consent, I got a popup saying 'Save failed'. Now, it seems to work (I get arrows in the UI). Not sure why it wasn't working in the first place, but thanks for your patience!

I am able to extend the HTMLElement to create a card and is able to show in the view. What I am aiming is that, I just need to open the default more-info dialog on a button click in the card.

I have added the button on card called "More Info", and I am hoping to open the more-info dialog pressing this button. I am able to run a function in js by adding an event listner, but after that totatlly blank. 😢

I've encountered a problem that I haven't been able to fix. I recently downloaded custom card Fold Entity Row to be able to put my entities in a foldable card to save space in my UI. But I can't seem to get it to look like a card. The only way I got it to work was using section and there is no styling.

I'm not sure where this problem belongs but I'll stick in here as it manifests itself in the frontend. If I restart the ha server either with "ha core restart" or via the server management controls in the frontend, it restarts but the frontend never comes back until I do a hardware reboot. Pressing F12 to look at the console while the frontend is broken gives this:

It's like the web server never comes back. It's reproduceable after the system has been running for 10-15 minutes, core will restart fine before then after a hard reboot - IYSWIM

I'm not sure where this problem belongs but I'll stick in here as it manifests itself in the frontend. If I restart the ha server either with "ha core restart" or via the server management controls in the frontend, it restarts but the frontend never comes back until I do a hardware reboot. Pressing F12 to look at the console while the frontend is broken gives this:

It's like the web server never comes back. It's reproduceable after the system has been running for 10-15 minutes, core will restart fine before then after a hard reboot - IYSWIM

Hi all, Im having a hard time with my lovelace config , one of my views disappeared completely , if i refresh the page i can see the view for a split second after that all goes to white , i can see in the "raw config" that the configuration is there , this si the first time something like this happened to me, i have tried to reboot, restar, reload backup , nothing , NADA , same thing still happened , any ideas ?

@iron locust you're in automatic mode. You take control and that's "level 2" where you have control of the UI and can add cards from the UI and also the raw editor. Level three is "yaml mode" where your layout and card choices are strictly yaml. No UI editing.

You can add views, add cards, add badges to views. When you integrate something in to HA now it will no longer appear automatically. You'll have to specifically add a card for whatever it is yourself

it doesn't store yaml. It stores json in the hidden .storage directory. But there is a "raw config editor" in those same three dots. You can "yaml edit" that way, it will still be stored as json in .storage

Hi guys , I wanted to know if it's possible to have a card that dislpay only when the state of an entity match a value.

I want for example to display mqtt stuff only when the lwt is "on" meaning the hardware is connected and display something else when last will or death is "active"

I have posted in several forums and researched the web for the past week and for some reason I can not find the answer I am looking for.
I want to add a picture to all my person entities and have the picture show up on the badge on each view I have it added to.
I also want to add a new icon to my scene entities and have that show up on the badge on each view I have it added to as well. I have uploaded the picture I am testing with to my server and added the config to my customize.yaml file but neither are working. Is there a good "How To" for this kind of thing?

@blissful anchor more of a #integrations-archived question however next time you remove devices from recorder you will want to purge the recorder https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/recorder#service-purge that way the rest of your data is kept instead of deleting the db
