oops sorry HassBot

devout onyx
#

if not, you will have to do a service call...

cloud osprey
#

so there is a light.toggle service. so do I use that?

devout onyx
#

use the correct domain, light toggle only works if the entity id is light.blah.blah

#

toggle should work with anything that has a toggle though, so switch, fan, light etc.

cerulean scarab
#

that works for my hue lights, and my mqtt lights

#

just normal toggle

Am trying Lovelace for the first time (beyodn the auto-generated stuff), I have this in my configuration.yaml : lovelace: mode: yaml and a ui-lovelace.yaml file in my config folder, yet I cannot seem to see anything in that file. Do I have to activate the drag and drop mode first or whatever? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

leaden vapor
#

@icy patrol ssh into your instance and look at the home-assistant.log.

raven nacelle
#

@latent moss if you are using yaml mode, you need to add stuff to that file.

leaden vapor
#

So, after updating to .86...nothing looks different. Shouldn't there be some sort of change?

raven nacelle
#

@leaden vapor the Auto generated view is very close to the groups you had

#

So you may not see the difference

latent moss
#

@raven nacelle I worded it wrong, there is stuff in that file (example code from the docs), but when I go to the web browser I don't see the contents of that file there. It's showing my old states UI but auto-generated for lovelace.

raven nacelle
#

What does your URL read?

latent moss
raven nacelle
#

Did you restart your ha after adding the yaml mode?

leaden vapor
#

Hamburger menu -> take control MUA HA HA HA HA!

#

Now let's see how I can screw things up. ;).

raven nacelle
#

@latent moss my guess is that you are still using the storage mode

latent moss
#

Yes I had it in my config for a while

#

Does "Take Control" mean yaml mode?

raven nacelle
#

That won't work if you are using yaml mode

leaden vapor
#

Well, it's gotten easier to configure... ... still have dreams of a drag and drop collection of doo dads.

latent moss
#

Hm this is odd then

raven nacelle
#

@leaden vapor those will come soon πŸ˜ƒ

latent moss
#

Maybe do I have to select the NeverMind option for Yaml mode to work? I have checked the 3 dot menu thing and saw the prompt that came up, but never made a choice on the screen there.

leaden vapor
#

:). And a selector for icons. I can't remember all of that stuff. ...

raven nacelle
#

what do you see when you click Configure UI from the three button menu?

latent moss
#

I've never made a choice on that screen yet, just always pressed Esc cause I was afraid of doing the wrong thing. I thought if I had the yaml mode it would bypass that stuff anyway.

raven nacelle
#

ok, click take control and then youwill use the storage mode

#

that also means you are not using the yaml mode

latent moss
#

Uh oh

#

after pressing take control

raven nacelle
#

ok, that is the first time I am seeing this

#

ok...refresh the cache

#

and try again

#

CTRL+SHIFT+R

#

a few times

latent moss
#

No luck still, i'll keep trying that though

raven nacelle
#

are you on .86.1?

#

yes

raven nacelle
#

restart HA and try again

latent moss
#

ok

raven nacelle
#

yeah, but that bug was fixed in .86.1

leaden vapor
#

So how well does this interface work if you want a kiosk style interface on a tablet mounted on the wall?

latent moss
#

im definitely on 86.1 according to the dev-info page

#

i went from 0.85.1 to 0.86.1 earlier today(skipped 0.86.0)

raven nacelle

did you restart and try again

its restarting now

#

sorry, got to go....but, if that does not work, try the yaml mode again. I am not on Hassio, so not really sure what is messing up, but scroll up and a few others have talked about that error

#

OMG guys great work!!

#

Love the new UI editor

#

soooo much better than editing groups and customise etc

#

few ideas/feedback

#
  1. I take it some of the cards in the UI editor are still yet to be made WYSIWYG vs Code
#
  1. when you click an entity - to beable to customise from there would be NEAT!
#

rather than via the configuration menu

polar kelp
#

1: Correct
2: The time spent configuring vs the time spent using the interface should be vanishingly small. Adding configuration options to the interface would needlessly detrement the common user experience for little gain.

#

But feel free to post your suggestions to the forum to open up a discussion about the correct balance.

If there a way to force the order custom cards load?
I am not sure if others are seeing this, but I am having an issue where card-tools doesn't load before certain cards (vertical-stack-in-card, pop-up-card,), if I load my main page, I get "popup-card TypeError: card.setConfig is not a function" error for pop-up-card (and sometimes vertical-stack-in-card, but not all the time, wierd) , then I see "CARD-TOOLS IS INSTALLED".
But, if I load a page that loads card-tools first, then navigate to my main page (or any page where error happens), everything loads ok.

EDIT, now I am not exactly sure the order may even be the problem, as I just seen card-tools load first once, and I still seen the errors.

fiery sail
#

@mild veldt great idea...only I'm using the MQTT climate component....I may look into the vertical stack card? Just trying to come up to speed on Lovelace since .86 dropped....

mild veldt
#

So what does the input_boolean do that isn't in the climate component?

fiery sail
#

There is remote sensor for the thermostat that allows setpoint to be controlled by the intake or from the wall controller.

#

So I'm looking at the vertical stack card and I'm confused as to what's the necessary input for a proper config.

#

Can't see to find any clear documentation either....

#

I see ---> type: vertical-stack

#

But what's the next entry type? I've tried ----> card: thermostat, but it doesn't seem to like that.

@winter hollow found that...but it's not very helpful when trying to configure via the frontend. The directions given there are for the yaml manipulation...or am I missing something?

i have a entities card with weblinks, and I can't click on the links (still with 0.86, had it before too). What can I do?

winter hollow

It is the same, just drop the - in front of the stack itself

placid geyser
#

@fiery sail Maybe ask a bit more specific if you are stuck.

winter hollow
#

@desert delta are you in storage or yaml mode?

desert delta
#

@winter hollow now I'm in storage mode, with 0.85 i was in yaml mode.

winter hollow
#

So it is the Lovelace weblink and not the backend component weblink?

fiery sail
#

Sorry, I did earlier. So I'm trying to add the thermostat card to a vertical stack and then add an input boolean beneath it using the front end configuration. So after adding the vertical stack card, I have the type: vertical-stack entry in the editor but I'm not sure what to add next. I tried adding card: thermostat but that didn't work.

placid geyser
#

@fiery sail for example: ```yaml
type: vertical-stack
cards:

  • type: entities
    ...
desert delta
#

@winter hollow I don't know what you mean. I cant find anything weblink lovelace specific.
I listed my links via "weblink:" in the conf.yaml and listed these entities on a entity card

winter hollow
#

Weblink is a row type of the entities card

desert delta
#

ok probably should work that way, still it should work with usual weblink-entities too? I mean I get the proper layout for links (with the open in new tab symbol), its just not clickable!

winter hollow

Maybe, but it will be deprecated soon

      value_template: "{% if is_state('binary_sensor.google', 'on') %}on{% else %}!no-reply, please check!{% endif %}"```
#

but it doesnt apply, the friendly name does but the value template not

#

as if we cant use value templates on binary sensors... this is the only binary sensors, normal sensors work with this

#

this could be an pebcak

split granite
#

You can't put the value template in customize 🀦

fiery temple
#

i use this for all my sensors and those work

split granite
#

Then, you found a feature

fiery temple
#

al do it seems a little bit different xD

sensor:
  - platform: template
    sensors:

        value_template: "{% if is_state('device_tracker.defprn01', 'home') %}Connected{% else %}Offline{% endif %}"
        icon_template: "{% if is_state('device_tracker.defprn01', 'home') %} mdi:printer{% else %}mdi:lan-disconnect{% endif %}"
split granite
#

That's a sensor, not customize

#

That's totally different

fiery temple
#

would this do the job?

binary_sensor:
  - platform: ping
    host: google.nl
    name: google
    value_template: "{% if is_state('binary_sensor.google', 'on') %}Connected{% else %}!no-reply, please check!{% endif %}"

I think there might be a bug with weblinks still in Lovelace. I was simply trying to edit a card using the UI, to uncheck the header toggle button (which imo doesn't make sense, since there's not a single toggle switch in this card). But I get a weird error message, pic: https://i.imgur.com/1upuzDi.png Additionally all of my weblinks seem to appear on the "hass-unused-entities" screen, even though they are in use.

polar kelp
#

Yeah... weblinks work totally differently from before. The ones in your configuration.yaml are pretty much ignored unless except in auto mode.

#

The error is because the entities GUI editor doesn't support the special row types yet.

latent moss
#

Oh ok. I think the error message/screen there could be a little more newb-friendly though, I had no idea what that meant tbh.

#

Also I feel like this stuff could maybe still be in the UI editor part (ie a field and toggle):

title: Links
show_header_toggle: true

and then just have the YAML fallback mode underneath. Just a suggestion, not sure if there's technical reasons for it to be that way.

polar kelp
#

Error messages are hard. There's one way things can be right, and infinite ways things can be wrong, but yes. We're getting there.

@polar kelp It seems all of your cards are not updating with custom updater, is there possibly an issue just at my end, or is there a problem with custom updater. If I update card to v1, it then updates and gets newest version, but doesn't show newest version. Not sure how custom updater works, is it a manual list of new version of custom cards, or is it automatic.

polar kelp
#

Lots of people had that problem the last few days.

I don't really know how the custom updater works or how often it updates its lists, though.

#

thorny verge
#

@polar kelp Ok, I manually updated everything and seem to be working for most part.
One major issue I am seeing now, seems to be the order of how custom cards are loaded. None of my views work right now. Seems if card-tools doesn't load before certain cards (vertical-stack-in-card, pop-up-card,), if I load my main page, I get "popup-card TypeError: card.setConfig is not a function" error for pop-up-card (and sometimes vertical-stack-in-card, but not all the time, wierd) , then I see "CARD-TOOLS IS INSTALLED".
But, if I load a page that loads card-tools first, then navigate to my main page (or any page where error happens), everything loads ok.

mild veldt

thorny verge
#

I do.

mild veldt

you likely have things in the vertical-stack-in-card that require card-tools, as it itself does not

#

@thorny verge not according to custom-updater, but actual source?

thorny verge
#

Yes, did a byte compare

mild veldt
#

I had the same error, but thomas resolved it in an update today

#

cleared cache?

thorny verge
#

Yes, and am trying everything incognito to be sure

mild veldt
#

what's in your popup card?

thorny verge
#

@mild veldt inside the popup card I have a vertical-stack-in card, problem seems to be tied to that card.
If I remove my popup card, I still see the errors, as I have a layout-card inside a vertical-stack-in-card, if I remove the layout-card, or vertical-stack-in-card as well it loads.
But, on a different view, it doesn't load because there is a different custom card (tiles-card, that I don't think needs card-tools) inside the vertical-stack-in-card. If I remove the vertical-stack-in-card, it loads.

polar kelp
#

The vertical-stack-in-card is trying to create cards that hasn't been defined yet. It might help to put vertical-stack-in-card.js first in your list of resources.

Oh man, we should put this in the docs really big: The YAML and UI mode can do exactly the same, there is no functional difference.

Not when in storage or yaml mode

hushed acorn
#

@winter hollow Thank you. That helped, but now it is so large that I have to vertically scroll to see the entire Node-Red window. Is there a way to restrict the vertical size?

@winter hollow Never mind. I actually like it this way.

wary tendon
#

Hello all
I am thinking about updating HA to 0.86. Do I need to migrate something to get the lovelace ui? I have a rather large "Group" setup for all cards/groups in the old UI. Are they automatically taken over?

split granite
#

You don't need to do anything - see the various blog posts

wary tendon
#

Where is the lovelace "config" saved if I don't use the yaml mode?

split granite
#

It'll be stored in .storage/lovelace

wary tendon
#

Is it pretty much the same as when using yaml? So could I just copy it out and switch to yaml mode?

split granite
#

I think storage uses JSON - you can convert that to YAML easily enough though, but it's not a case of copying the file as is

wary tendon
#

okay thanks.

mental crystal
#

So what would be the appropriate way to redesign my UI as it was with 0.85? Now that Im running 0.86.2...?

#

Just to get to the same place I was, and then slowly shift into the new possibilities lovelace has to offer

split granite
#

The auto-generated UI will be "vaguely close"

#

Start from there, and all the stock (and custom) cards, and work out what you want to do

mental crystal
#

Its vaguely similar :P
That is, I have three sections in my main tab - few sensors, few scenes and media players, and on top 20+ sensors. and thats it. nothing even similar to what I used to had

#

Its vaguely similar :P
That is, I have three sections in my main tab - few sensors, few scenes and media players, and on top 20+ sensors. and thats it. nothing even similar to what I used to had

split granite
#

I've not really used the auto-generated view in Lovelace myself, I've always customised it

wary tendon
#

Just migrated myself, except for the history graphs, everything looks pretty much as before

#

and the thermostat

winter hollow
#

@mental crystal are you sure your groups are loaded? With the slugify breaking change groups often dont load in 0.86

#

Check your groups for entities with double _ or starting or ending with _

mental crystal
#

wdym, i dont have '_' prefix/suffix. what exactly else can i do?

winter hollow
#

@split granite the best way to switch back and forth yaml and UI is the raw config editor

#

Are your groups loaded? Or is the states UI the same as it was before?

mental crystal
#

I still have my groups defined as part of the many different yamls (packages) I have

#

If I go to settings, general, and validate, I get an error. Below, where the "reload" buttons are, there is only the ability to reload core

winter hollow
#

Having them defined is not the same as loaded

mental crystal
#

I can try and restart the entire process, would it by any chance make a differnece?

winter hollow
#

Well fix those errors and your Lovelace should be better

mental crystal
#

But how would I know what to fix, if on the previous version it was defined good enough / with no errors? I mean, how do I know what to look at if for all I know, they are all properly defined?

winter hollow
#

Check your logs, the console, and like I said, your groups.

#

And the breaking changes, this is in there.

wary tendon
#

is the history_graph component now also obsolete with lovelace?

split granite
#

Effectively, yes IMO

wary tendon
#

cool

winter hollow
#

It will be deprecated soon

inland swallow
#

Hi. i hope someone can help me out. I have added a picture element card in lovelace with an image from 300x800 pixels. But HA is showing the picture almost double the size. I am using version 0.86.1. What can i do to display the pictre in the real size?

split granite
#

You can't really. Lovelace doesn't allow you to set a fixed size

inland swallow
#

but why is it so big, the image is not getting smaller when i make my browser window smaller

#

It is for a floorplan, and when i watch other floorplans all the pictures are nicely shown in the browser, my picure has also correct sizes but it is rescaled so it does not fit in my screen anymore

winter hollow

Share a screenshot so we know what you are talking about

#

Hi, I've seen the demo LoveLace here https://demo.home-assistant.io/ and like the look of the floorplan cards. Does anyone know what software was used to create the floorplan images?

raven nacelle
#

There are a few paid options (Room Skecher, Room Scan, Smartdraw)

trail bane
#

I guess he means your demo! What did you use? πŸ˜ƒ

raven nacelle
#

Luckily for me, I got it from my builders website

#

so, no effort required

#

Most builders use third-party providers to render these floorplans. If you have a newer house and you know the name of your floorplan, you should be able to find it online

rare badger
#

ah thanks, unfortunately my house is about 100 years old so no true plans. I have a basic plan in AutoCad but it's no where near pretty enough. I'll take a look at those suggestions

split granite
#

I created my own in Inkscape

mild veldt
split granite
#

It's not as pretty, but it's simple, and I like it

rare badger
#

raven nacelle
split granite

raven nacelle

it is....I saved it as a reference for myself

rare badger
#

oh wow, they both look great

raven nacelle

I think I can dig it out

raven nacelle

he actually posted the svg files as well

split granite
#

Thanks

rare badger
#

oh cool, I'll take a look at that

raven nacelle
#

lol....looks like that is @winter hollow works

split granite
#

Much as I love Lovelace, I find it's not as good for creating actual floorplans that are pretty

#

Those though... that's somebody with some artistic flair, or lots of patience (or both)

raven nacelle
#

LL is not for creating floorplans, it is for using floorplans πŸ˜ƒ

trail bane
#

Sorry for the random question, how do I round my floats from template sensors?

sudden lion
#

#

πŸ˜„

finite lantern
raven nacelle
#

@trail bane use a template sensor to round values

split granite
#

Well, yeah, but the picture element card doesn't lend itself to nice floorplans like HA floorplan

raven nacelle
#

you cannot do it in Lovelace

#

Picture elements is 95% there

#

and it is so easy to implement

split granite
#

I haven't tried it in months, but the last time I got frustrated fast - but then I was trying to replicate what I've got

trail bane
#

@raven nacelle Yup, using that. I have bytes / 1024 / 1024 but I need to round it or else it's like 0.134525 MB/s πŸ˜›

raven nacelle
#

you should try again Tink....there are so many elements to be used

split granite
#

You need to round in your sensor @trail bane πŸ˜‰

#

Yeah, but I'd need to start from scratch, or I'll find myself in the same hold - trying to replicate rather than create functionality. And that post may give me something fresh to work from

raven nacelle
#

if you have your plan ready, it is quite easy to get started

split granite
#

Oh, that is, I agree

#

But, I've got "unusual" shapes and stuff on my floorplan, like lights that are a long bar

#

Replicating that in Lovelace, cleanly, I couldn't get to work well

winter hollow
#

I don't have a floorplan anymore...

split granite
#

I love it for the whole house overview, not for control though

winter hollow
#

but I did like the svg

#

yeah, I would like it back some day

#

when I have time to work on my own interface...

split granite
#

πŸ˜„

trail bane
#

I was aware that I need to do it in my sensor. I forgot that it was the round(x) function so I'm good again

mild veldt
#

@raven nacelle i love that floorplan pic you posted. i've had it bookmarked for about a year and have been meaning to try to replicate it

raven nacelle
#

I started working on changing my colors to replicate that one

#

but I am so bad at this thing....even that was difficult for me πŸ˜‚

#

we all need bram to rescue us

winter hollow
#

I made it themable actually

#

and it was animated

raven nacelle
#

I was about to say that...would be cool to have open/close door animations, etc.

winter hollow
#

yeah, that was in...

raven nacelle
#

so it has to be svg for the animations to work?

winter hollow
#

no

#

you can do css animations on any object

raven nacelle
#

did you post your final version on that thread?

winter hollow
#

I think I did post the animations and theme somewhere

raven nacelle
#

have you shared your config on git?

winter hollow
#

no

#

I'll look them up

raven nacelle
#

you should....

#

there is so much to learn

#

or copy away πŸ˜‰

winter hollow
#

Haha nothing works anymore πŸ˜„

#

does the old floorplan work with hass today?

#

kind shellBOT
raven nacelle
#

I haven't tried the panel

#

let me try that

split granite
#

HA Floorplan works fine, I still use it

raven nacelle
#

yeah, that seem to work. The first card was in a panel

#

would be nice, if I could add two cards in the panel mode

#

then, I can put both the levels on one view

#

actually, stack in a panel may work

#

so, @winter hollow so, you are using the @keyframes in which element? state_image?

#

how are they responding to the states?

winter hollow
#

no that was from the svg floorplan

#

I added tabs to my floorplan html, so I has a tab for every floor

raven nacelle
#

and that was LL right?

winter hollow
#

but I didn't update it... so it doesn't work anymore

#

no

raven nacelle
#

ohh

#

that is what I was missing....I thought you got it working in LL

winter hollow
#

was a custom-panel

mild veldt
#

Need to get HA floor plan devs to work on and perfect picture elements

winter hollow
#

no this was before lovelace

raven nacelle
#

small animations in picture-elements would go a long way

winter hollow

I would want to create something in Lovelace where you could do this

raven nacelle

yeah, I also want to stick to LL and hope that some elements will become available now that feature freeze is over

@split granite 😦

split granite
#

What?

#

He said you were making some πŸ’© πŸ˜›

mild veldt
#

🀣

split granite
#

On a serious note though, you've all been doing some pretty awesome stuff, speaking as somebody who's viewed the UI as the least important thing in HA...

#

That view may be drifting a little now ... πŸ˜‰

mild veldt
#

We did it guys! That’s a wrap! πŸŽ‰

winter hollow
#

Haha great to hear Tinker

split granite
#

Well, the old UI was "fugly" (functional, but ugly). This now though... now it's a thing I can see being useful on wall mounted tablets and the like

mild veldt
#

People putting in lots of effort into these custom cards is what is huge to me. Thing like the mini-media-player and upcoming-media-card just look so damn good

winter hollow
#

Those guys should join the frontend team

mild veldt
#

I keep trying πŸ˜ƒ

split granite
#

Many of these folks will be ones who're out to scratch an itch, and have no long term interest

mild veldt
#

Most don’t want to give up the freedom of options they can add to their cards

#

Which I get. Core is a bit more rigid/simple

#

But beyond just porting cards we could use smart devs to help shoring up the front end overall

split granite
#

Yup, there's lots of little - long standing - pain points that could do with some love and attention

dreamy tendon
#

the upcoming-media-card is pretty cool for sure but the Kodi integration has a little problem that Kodi needs to be on when Hass launches or it doesn't load the sensors 😦

mild veldt
#

That has nothing to do with the card

dreamy tendon
#

I know

mild veldt
#

And that's the nature of HA. Components are attempted to setup on boot. Failed ones are not reattempted
