#

@crimson fable as long as you resolve the template before making the call you'd be fine

mortal cape
#

Any common reason for not being able to see the line graph in a sensor card? I had them in the past.

mild veldt
#

Do you have graph: line set?

mortal cape
#

@mild veldt well, using the UI editor I was. But now that I've toggled editor I see it isn't in the yaml

#

err...I guess that becomes json now

#

Adding it manually fixed it. Thanks

mild veldt
#

@mortal cape to be clear, you're on beta and using the new UI editor for the sensor card?

mortal cape
#

@mild veldt yes

mild veldt
#

okay. thanks. I'll check that out

devout grail
#

Hello people, quick question. I did something stupid. I added some lines to the config in the web ui, and now it shows a blank page and I cannot do anything anymore. Is there a way to reset the whole lovelace config?

cloud vector
#

Can anyone tell me how to replace the raw config input screwed up πŸ™„

#

I thought it would of not validate when saving if I had messed it up no I have no Lovelace DOH

#

Just realised we have both screwed up @devout grail

devout grail
#

I was just thinking that :p

cloud vector
#

What did you do? I managed to write in the raw config using the .yaml content from the file under storage probably not my brightest move.

prime umbra
#

in storage folder file lovelace

devout grail
#

@prime umbra Aha, got it πŸ˜ƒ

#

@cloud vector Just fyi, its a hidden folder

#

Using samba atleast

prime umbra
#

if you delete should alow you to get back minimal lovelace UI

devout grail
#

Cool, thanks πŸ˜ƒ

#

@cloud vector I was trying to get my map working again with the plan-coordinates jason thing

cloud vector
#

I found it in storage\lovelace

devout grail
#

But I tried to add the

to the base lovelace config

#

didnt work though πŸ˜„

#

I get this now

prime umbra
#

try do a empty cache and hard reload on browser , does miracles somethimes

#

cool will do. was doing it remotely and need to power cycle as reboot went a bit wrong

So will need to go to my sisters in the am

#

Thank you

You do HA management for your sister?

I don't remember how to set the text on a group... but you could make a binary_sensor and set the device_class to "door"

#

I've downloaded the .py file, and put it in /config/custom_components/sensor
Then when I add the example to my configuration.yaml nothing happens

dusty sigil
#

@pastel hamlet Have you restarted homeassistant after uploading the .py and editing your config? Any errors in Is your custom component being loaded? There should be a line in your dev-info-log about a custom component being loaded.

#

Hi guys, any way it's possible to style and/or resize the LIGHT cards? I've tried using card-modder, however it gives me a different colored "cone" in the graphics and doesn't look good.

prime umbra
#

@mild veldt in glance cards any idea what would be the size of a picture if you wanted to use instead a icon?

#

i have tryed with many sizes and no sucess

#

a exemple

#

alexa box wont show all of it current the size of pic is with 30 pixel and height 22 pixel

small gyro
mild veldt
#

@prime umbra can't you just inspect the icon?

raven nacelle
#

@prime umbra My impression was that the images are automatically resized.

full tide
#

is there a way in lovelace to add additional info such as a short explanation of what an automation does when clicking on the entity in the entity card?

prime umbra
#

well i have tryed many sizes and wasnt able to get it straight

#

@mild veldt what you mean by inspect ^^^

full tide
#

use chrome developer tool

prime umbra
#

ok it seems that regular icon is 24px by 24px

#

so let me resize and test

full tide
#

@mild veldt do you know if there is a way to add additional info to lovelace card entities? would like so if my partner presses on an automation, it has a short description?

mild veldt
#

@full tide like a tooltip? No

#

hello, is it possible to stack horizontal-stack into vertical-stack?

#

Anybody knows who made the Light Card? Maybe I should go straight to the source πŸ˜‰ It's not a custom one. How can I find out?

#

@mild veldt looks like you authored the docs, are you involved?

#

I love the light card, but it would require some modifications for my use, and I'm not sure where to look

mild veldt
#

pinging devs on chat is not how you request changes

prime umbra
mild veldt
#

@small gyro if you have feature requests, file them against the ui-schema repo. If you have bug reports, file them against home-assistant-polymer repo

full tide
#

@prime umbra cheers, will check it out, just want to make it a bit more accessible to people in my house who have no idea what home assistant is or does!

#

Hello friends. I have a question about includes in lovelace. Unfortunately my front end doesn't update the includes when I make a change to them unless I make a change ui-lovelace.yaml. Does anyone know if it's possible to have the includes update individually?

mild veldt

use the refresh option found in the menu in lovelace

is there a script to convert current UI yaml files to lovelace?

#

i think so

#

i think this

tepid raft

nice, thanks!

pastel hamlet
#

@dusty sigil yeah i've restarted
it's weird because it kills my sabnzbd monitoring...

tepid raft
#

can lovelace still have the independent sensors at the top of a view like the old UI?

#

or does it have to be on a card?

balmy oxide
#

@tepid raft theyre called badges

#

when you create a new view, it looks like u can define badges for them

tepid raft
#

perfect, thanks

#

So I used to use group.all_automations to build a list of all automation entities. But now it just adds a single entity item 'all automations' that opens a new window containing this list. Any way to add that list to the main UI?

mild veldt
#

@tepid raft add them manually or use monster-card

balmy oxide
#

ive got no ide about that one, i just started home assistant less than 24 hours ago

#

i do what @mild veldt says, manually add them all to an entity list

mild veldt

monster-card has a domain filter

I don't see monster-card in the docs?

Monster card is a magical type of card. Because it's dynamic if you're smart about it, you can have one card that adapts and that you don't need to touch when adding new entities & sensors to your setup. Supports both inclusion and exclusion filters with wildcard for entity_id: https://github.com/ciotlosm/custom-lovelace/tree/master/monster-card

im running hass on a dedicated VM instead of a rasberry pi

there are constant references to /local/ being mapped to <config>/www folder

how does this translate to my setup where i installed hass in a venv in a user folder?

/home/homeassistant/homeassistant is my install directory

tawny rapids
#

i don't see why not

fiery temple

i did the resource include:

  - type: js
    url: /local/custom_ui/weather-card.js?v=5

not getting why its not working

#

while

entity: weather.dark_sky
type: weather-forecast

does work but gives me the traditional weather forecast card, its bugging me

Which version of the include did you use?

fiery temple

cross posted the type name

what do you mean?

You edited your post πŸ˜‰

fiery temple
#

yeah

split granite
#

At first you provided a different resource path

fiery temple

indeed rebooting now to make things sure

split granite
#

Reboot? Really?

fiery temple
#

restart.. xD

#

sry not native engl

split granite
#

Reboot == restart the whole computer

fiery temple
#

got that

split granite
#

Also, there's zero need to restart for Lovelace changes

fiery temple
#

also if you change the resources?

#

cause i changeed that

split granite
#

Assuming Hass.io, you have /config/custom_ui/weather-card.js?

#

It's Lovelace, you don't need to restart

fiery temple
#

no i have, /www/custom_ui/weather-card.js

split granite
#

Well, if that's a literal /www/ that won't work

#

/local/ means www/ inside your configuration directory

fiery temple
#

yes i have that

#

/local/custom_ui/weather-card.js

split granite
#

/ is special

#

If you start a path with / it means from the root

So /www/ and /config/www/ are different

i have all reesources like that

resources:
  - type: js

@vapid tapir check your ul-lovelace code for the card: resources:

meager grotto
#

Can I change the color of a state-icon based on the state?

sacred geyser
#

how hard is it to make a new card?

#

is it just html/css/js?

#

i wanted to make something to move my dafang, since having the default cards (up-stop-down) don't really fit

polar kelp
#

Not too hard. Even I can do it.

sacred geyser
#

and then it turns out @polar kelp is an engineer

polar kelp
#

I am indeed... but not a software one.

#

You may want to consider the picture-entitieselements route, though.

sacred geyser
#

that could be an idea

#

you mean picture-elements though

polar kelp
#

Yes

sacred geyser
#

even easier would be a mix ofvertical and horizontal stacks, with a button for each card

azure sandal
#

Hi all, i just switched to lovelace and have a question rg. the yntac in the UI editor

sacred geyser
#

i wouldn't need images then, as I could use icons

azure sandal
#

when i try this: - type: light
entity: light.hue_color_candle_1

#

i get the message: YAML Error: TypeError: type is undefined

#

if i remove the "-" and spaces it works for one light

#

but it doesn't for other cards (e.g. horizontal stack) - maybe i've git a misunderstanding rg. the syntax?

sacred geyser
#

it works!

#

now i just need a white background or something instead of an empty image

mild veldt
#

@azure sandal if you're working on a single card you don't need the leading -, as you're looking at a single card in the configuration and is handled by the editor. If you are looking at it in the raw config editor, you're looking at the full configuration and each card in a cards array would need to be have a - to specify it being a new card in the array

azure sandal
#

ok, makes sense. Is there a yaml file where I can see the full lovelace confguration?

sacred geyser
#

uhhh, picture-entities doesnt' support sizing?

mild veldt
#

@azure sandal in storage mode, now, use the raw config editor found in the top right menu to view the yaml. The file is located in .storage/lovelace and is in json

slow wave
#

is it possible to specify a width and height of a card in lovelace ?

azure sandal
#

@mild veldt : Perfect - that helps to understand the structure a bit better

#

thanks

mild veldt
#

@slow wave no. Use stacks with a panel view to customize your layout

slow wave
#

@mild veldt aight, I tried that, but then on my fridge tablet one of the cards is wider than the other, and you have to scroll to see the whole card

mild veldt
#

They should share the space evenly...hmm

slow wave
#

Hang on, I'll take a picture of it

#

The problem was that when there was percipitation that would have to be scrolled to on the fridge

sacred geyser
#

can i use a template instead of an entity in a card?

#

instead of just showing the used ram, i'd like to show used ram / total ram

#

instead of creating another sensor through a template

mild veldt
#

@sacred geyser no templates in lovelace. you'll need to create a template sensor

sacred geyser
#

awww, another one (or more)

mild veldt
#

it is something that has a state, and should be in a sensor

sacred geyser
#

i'm just trying to calculate a percentage from the used ram sensor

mild veldt
#

🀷

#

You can always create your own element that supports templating as thomas has done with his useful-markdown-card

sacred geyser
#

doubt that would be the easiest solution here though πŸ˜‰

#

well, here's another question while we're at it: is there a quick way to have a card spawn 2 columns?

#

or even 3

#

3 can be done with the panel setting, ok, but then it gets hard to mix stuffs inside it

mild veldt
#

some people out there have created some attempts at solving the flow problem

#

I haven't used either

sacred geyser
#

some more help

#

but despite solving the "components doesn't exist" error, i see no changes to my header

#

mmm, maybe i found the problem, hard-coded urls in the .js file, bad practice

#

yup, that was it

mild veldt
#

@sacred geyser more likely you didn't read the instructions and use the dir option

sacred geyser
#

i did use read the instructions, but chose to use a different folder since I already had it (hate putting stuffs anywhere), didn't think it'd have those paths hardcoded

fiery temple
#

@dense thicket thanks i know that i have that working already, but i want the dark custom card

dense thicket
#

Gotcha. Haven't tried to use that yet so I'm no help there. Good luck!

fiery temple
#

thnx

shell torrent

sacred geyser
#

yeah, also noticed that too late

shell torrent
#

a little backwards config in my opinion, but it works πŸ˜ƒ

sacred geyser
#

that's what happens when you don't read the whole documentation first

#

since it didn't work I didn't go read the optional params

#

oh come on, now lovelace is just making fun of me

#

how can i quickpaste an image here?

raven nacelle
#

HI, over to the lovelace channel πŸ˜‰ Hi all! i created a scmall script I want to run from a button in the UI. For that purpose I created a entitiy card with the folowing code:

split granite

Yes

slow wave

A horizontal stack, containing two vertical stacks, possibly with the view as a panel

wouldn't it be a vertical stack with two horizontal stacks ?

raven nacelle
#

@mild veldt I am positive it was working until some point...

#

so, icon_color is not supposed to work in LL?

polar kelp
#

icon_color is not a native feature. It's from custom-ui. Support for that breaks from time to time, and I don't know the current state.

raven nacelle

I think that is it....it is custom_ui related and I removed it recently

#

What are you trying to do? I can't understand what the result should look like.

slow wave
#

@livid ruin I want two horizontal rows of light cards, because of scaling on my fridge tablet πŸ˜ƒ

#

If I get only one row the cards get so compressed I only see half of each card

#

As such I was under the impression I needed a single vertical stack, and two horizontal stacks

#

And also Panel:true to fill out the screen

hardy void
#

how can i reset my lovelace? i have killed my frontend, i see only a whiteboard, nice work

livid ruin
#

Row means column in your description? I'm unsure of what is horizontal and what is vertical in your text.

slow wave
#

@hardy void just go to /states in the URL to see the old frontend, and what lovelace are you running ? Yaml or new storage ?

#

@livid ruin let me do a drawing πŸ˜‰

hardy void
#

with ymal works it, i will test the new

#

in the new i delete entire text/code and now i see nothing in the new storage

slow wave
livid ruin
#

@hardy void : I thougt it didn't work? If yaml works, use that.

#

@slow wave the rectangles shall be light cards?

slow wave
#

@hardy void I tried the new online editor, it just jumbled up my code all the time, so I went back to yaml

hardy void
#

i donΒ΄t want to use it with ymal

slow wave
#

@livid ruin yes, those are the cards in the hastebin I posted,

livid ruin
#

so each rectangle is itself a card?

hardy void
#

ah ok, then i will wait for the next version

slow wave
#

@livid ruin Indeed, each is a light card, is that a bad way to do it ? I was not aware if it was possible to combine multiple light cards

livid ruin
#

I'm just asking because it can be hard to get the cards all to the same size if they are different kind of cards.

slow wave
#

Yeah all cards are the same card

#

Light cards

#

so they should be the same size

#

and they are now if I just do vertical stack or just horizontal stack

livid ruin
#

OK. Then I think you are doing it the wrong way around. You made 2 horizontal stacks and tried to combine them. Try 4 vertical stacks.

#

Lovelace orders cards from the top left to the bottom right, proceeding column by column. If the first column is filled, it switches to the second and so on.

worthy kiln
#

I see a lot of people trying to scale the cards with "panel: true", vertical and horizontal stacks, which is not really well supported within the GUI editor. What I would like to see is a grid based card which you can scale in the frontend by drag and drop of the edges. The grid itself should autoscale by the size of the window. The amount of grid lines should be configurable in the config perhaps. Why not go this way?

livid ruin
#

Because this has a different design goal. Lovelace tries to be a flexible system, whereas your proposal would be rather static and fixed. If a card is missing or changing content, your grid system would be jumbled around or even overlap neighboring cards.

#

It is still possible with lovelace and custom cards and a well planned design that respects these edge cases, but it is not what lovelace does out of the box.

slow wave
#

@livid ruin I understand that, but a single vertical stack was not usable as that meant I had to scroll a lot on a low resolution tablet, horizontal the same, the cards just get pressed into eachother, as such I wanted to try and combine the two to make something usable πŸ˜ƒ

livid ruin
#

A single stack is not what you are wanting according to your drawing. Your drawing shows either two horizontal or 4 vertical stacks, depending on your preferred direction.

slow wave
#

Oh, that is also a way of course

#

I didn't even think of that

#

But I cannot seem to realize it in code currently anyway 😦

livid ruin
#

I suggest you try around a bit with different stacks. At first it was also confusing to me, but by ordering my cards in different ways I quickly got a grip on how lovelace tries to order cards and stacks.

#

The code would just be 4 vertical stacks. Or what code do you mean?

slow wave
#

I have never seen a config with 2 or more vertical \ horizontal, so my mind cannot fathom it in code

#

do you have any examples ?

livid ruin
#

You just do vertical 1 with card 1 and 5, then vertical 2 with cards 2 and 6, then vertical 3 with 3 and 7, then vertical 4 with 4 and 8. Then see how it is ordered by lovelace.

#

One problem could be that your stacks are "too short" so that lovelace tries to put two stacks below each other.

slow wave
#

@livid ruin looking around for githubs with examples of more than 1 stack πŸ˜„ let's see if I can get any good pointer

livid ruin
#

So where are you stuck? Just do 4 vertical stacks right after another and see what it gives you.

slow wave
#

or, scratch line 5 I guess

livid ruin
#

There are syntax issues in that... Where to start. πŸ˜‚

#

delete line 5. remove two blanks from line 6 (cards has to be at the same level as title).

#

remove lines 15, 24, 33

#

You just need the "cards" keyword when you are enumerating cards.

#

So for example, each view starts with "cards:", and each stack is also enumerating cards, so needs a "cards:" section.

#

But not in between stacks or views.

#

I also think after you deleted all the superfluous "cards:", your indentation will be wrong, so correct that.

#

Or show the result and I will try πŸ˜ƒ

#

haha, I will try now, at work doing some travel requests, so getting a vpn going

#

Hi!
Is there any good way of printing a template on a picture-elements?
I would like to avoid creating multiple template sensors if possible just because I want some extra rounding etc.

polar kelp
slow wave
#

@livid ruin removing panel: true atleast gives me all, but I only have 2 vertical stacks

polar kelp
#

panel: true makes only the first card show up - in your case a vertical stack containing 2 lights.

#

In the picture, you have four vertical stacks. One with the kitchen and hallways light, below that one stack with the office and bedroom, to the right one stack with top floor and basement and below that a stack with only a single night light.

#

Try drawing what you want. Make squares around what you want to be stacked together, and look at how they nest.

slow wave
polar kelp
#

Then you have two options on how to lay it out

#

Where green boxes are horizontal-stack and red vertical-stack.

slow wave
#

@polar kelp the first one is the one I wanted to do first, but did not succeed

polar kelp
#

You should only have cards: once per stack.

#

Remove the one on line 22. (but not before you understand why)

slow wave
#

@polar kelp because that will make it a new card that will be the only one visible on top of the other one ?

polar kelp
#

Not the right words, but absolutely correct!

slow wave
#

πŸ˜„

#

Yay I am partially smart

livid ruin
#

Did you try to build this structure bottom-up, like I recommended? Add one stack, look at the result, add another one? With this system, you can directly understand what is doing what and why it is doing that.

#

If you want to build a lovelace-ui, you really have to understand every part of the yaml. It's a very strict language, so you have to understand the formalism. Every word, every punctuation, every blank has a meaning.

slow wave
#

@livid ruin Yeah, I'm getting there slowly, I started using lovelace like a week ago

livid ruin
#

I meant no offense! I also started slowly. πŸ˜ƒ

slow wave
#

None taken, I'm just not used to code again yet, haven't had to use that part of my brain in over 15 years πŸ˜„

livid ruin
#

For me, it really helped to use an editor that is yaml-aware. Highlighting and automatic indentation help a lot.

slow wave
#

Yeah, I started using notepad++ with tab\space notation and tab == 4 spaces

livid ruin
#

I can recommend sublime, for example. Atom is fine, too, but I had problems with atom over remote connections.

slow wave
#

I'm too used to tab with my years of linux and unix

livid ruin
#

Can notepad++ also annotate? So for example color different parts of yaml in different colors?

slow wave
#

I haven't tried yet, but I think it does for other code, and it autocompletes too

livid ruin
#

Yeah, sounds fine then.

mild veldt
#

@slow wave @livid ruin I would recommend VSCode

#

And then get an yaml extension

livid ruin
#

I couldn't get vscode to render correctly with X-forwarding, but I only gave it one try and then found sublime works nicely. Will perhaps try vscode again.

mild veldt
#

I've never tried to run it as an x-session. I just run it locally and point it at a samba share

#

If you're on hassio, there is also the could9 ide add-on which is very nice

sacred geyser
#

are there any plans to make the conditional card support OR?

livid ruin
#

I mean, that would shorten the yaml, but you can always simulate a simple OR with several conditional cards. Complex stuff: just render a boolean.

sacred geyser
#

i'd like to show a "turn off all lights" button card if ANY light is on

#

ok, that can easily be checked by showing the button if the button itself is on, duh

livid ruin
#

For such more "complex" behaviour, I use a template boolean. So I can use as many convoluted If-then-constructs as I like (and can write down).

sacred geyser
#

either that, or create a group and the check that group's switch?

#

if we're talking about switches here

livid ruin
#

Of course, in this case, that is the easiest way, I suppose.

most notably the "entity_id" so that you only trigger the one you want

#

or so it SHOULD be

#

see example #2 in that previous link

midnight shadow
#

hm, i'm still not getting anywhere :/

#

entities:
- type: call-service
service: switch.turn_off
icon: mdi:monitor
name: Monitore
action_name: Toggle
service_data:
- entity_id: switch.monitorpoweroff

#

that pops up a "Failed to call service switch/turn_off"

#

surprisingly not writing anything to the log

sacred geyser
#

that should work, actually

#

let me check mine

#

Failed to call service input_boolean/turn_off.

#

#

we're in the same boat now

midnight shadow
#

awesome

#

i get a Uncaught (in promise) {message "invalid format", code "invalid format"} in the browser log though

#

that reminds me of my marriage

#

πŸ˜„

sacred geyser
#

calling it from the services page works though

midnight shadow
#

yup, with toggle as well as with turn_on/turn_off

sacred geyser
#

#

although i'm using input_boolean instead of switch so it's more of a general problem

midnight shadow
#

hm, what format could that be... if you put in random stuff it says Service not found

#

so i guess it expects it weirdly formatted

sacred geyser
#

caught it

#

it's an object, not an array

#

so you don't put the - before entity_id

#

(you being we)

#

fixed it for me

midnight shadow
#

ahem, turns out i renamed the wrong script

#

aka another reboot when i tested switch.toggle πŸ˜‰

sacred geyser
#

at least you fixed it

lofty summit
#

Hello friends. Does anyone here know if it's possible to have includes inside included files for yaml mode? Not sure if my formatting is just wrong or if it's not possible

sacred geyser
#

how do I use colored icons in cards BTW? kinda like how turned-on lights have a yellow lightbulb icon

#

it would easier to tell at a glance if a certain entity is on if the icon is colored

sacred geyser
#

that's just for lights though

#

i'm working with an input_boolean

midnight shadow
#

so, thank you very much it is working now (had to take anti-reboot measures first just in case) πŸ˜ƒ

#

then you must use a styler / card modder i'm afraid

#

there you can do things like:

#

top: 21%
left: 97%
"--paper-item-icon-color": lightgreen

Hi, how do I make the hold_action keep pressing the volume button, when held?

          hold_action:
            action: call-service
            service: remote.send_command
            service_data:

              command: "VolumeUp"
              device: 58068245
polar kelp
#

You can't. The hold action is triggered when you release the mouse button.

#

There would probably be too much delays in every step of the way to get it to work reliably anyway.

rancid schooner
#

My remote control is working pretty ok now, a lot faster then the harmony android app. But volume changing needs me clicking 50 times

#

@sacred geyser i think i now want exactly what you want πŸ˜ƒ

sacred geyser
#

kinda, except not

midnight shadow
#

the Computer link should read Shutdown when it's on and startup when it is off. and the icon should be green/red respectively

sacred geyser
#

ah, yes then

#

yup

#

mine are input_boolean on whether i want to receive a certain notification or not, but same concept

#

changing the action name itself was impossible with default cards so I created 2 cards (one for each state) that are shown/hidden based on the state itself

midnight shadow
#

weird, that's a pretty common thing to wish for i would think

sacred geyser
#

now since i've already got a card that's exclusively for the on status and one for the off status, i'd love to change their icons too, but while i can change the actual icon, i can't color them

#

(not with default cards)

#

lights are easy since they have full / outline icons, but most other icons don't

midnight shadow

can you show me the two card code?

i think the modder option should work (when you are able to add a new custom card of course)

what sux in this is when you already start using raw config editor, you end up not updating ui-lovelace.yaml so even if you use lovelace:

there should be a way to use the new raw conf editor and at the same time create ui-lovelace.yaml in case you want to go back to yaml mode

Steps to reproduce:
On the first lovelace tab (view) I can without problem toggle my light using entity button
When I open the second lovelace tab (view) I open detail of some sensor and enlarge the window to see more detailed graph. I close it by clicking outside of the detail window. I then go back to the first tab and toggle my light - first toggle works and my light turns on, but the button stays stuck on the off state and repeatedly tries to turn the light on and wont allow me to turn the light off unless I refresh the page.

I was trying to limit the slider from say 16 to 28 degrees (setpoint_shift_min and setpoint_shift_max), but that has no effect on the card.

@mild veldt just fyi minor typo on this page near the bottom: https://sharethelove.io/custom-resources/cards you have weater-card instead of weather-card. And the Jinja Magic Scripts under tools page is a broken link. But great and helpful resource, thanks.

Hi
In need of some styling advise πŸ˜‰ Not sure how to go about with this
I can't get my cards to look right. The cards below wont go beyond the above. Is there a way to create multiple cells and merge somehow to get what I'm looking for?
