buoyant skiff
#

morning

mild veldt
#

Hey @buoyant skiff

#

1 day?

buoyant skiff
#

well today and tomorrow

#

but its been pretty lax around the office

#

so is probly another half day

#

@dense roost

#

are you just trying to have a picture ?

dense roost
#

a label on a picture element

#

without the label doing anything

buoyant skiff
#

so basically an image with an added element that doesnt do anything?

dense roost
#

correct. the image just navigates to another view, but every way i do it I either have to call a service with the label, or it's a state label which doesn't offer me the ability to use my own text, which I want to be the room name eg BEDROOM

buoyant skiff
#

its possible

#

in theory

dense roost
#

lol

buoyant skiff
#

cause you got your navigation path

#

im fairly certain it will be possible in next version

#

when you can add more custom things

dense roost
#

oh that'll be nice

buoyant skiff
#

but im thinking its dueable now too

#

you have this card that only displayes text

#

add navigation path to it

#

and profit

dense roost
#

hopefully someone can do that custom css import as I wouldn't know what i'm doing at this point. I tried a service-button, while leaving out service data, but that causes the label bg to change green like a button when pressed

buoyant skiff
#

well not a card

dense roost
#

oooo profit

buoyant skiff
#

a card component

#

for picture element

dense roost
#

what's step 3

#

nvm meant phase 2

#

ill try it out

buoyant skiff
#

neat

#

shit was just supposed to get a burger with some friends yesterday

#

since it was so nice outside

#

might have drank one to many beers

dense roost
#

lol

mild veldt
#

^ Worst friend

buoyant skiff
#

meh i had fun ๐Ÿ˜ƒ thats all that matters

dense roost
#

too slow now i look bad @mild veldt

mild veldt
#

I can live with that

buoyant skiff
#

a little coffee and a shower

dense roost
#

lol

buoyant skiff
#

and a half day at the office

mild veldt
#

Bedtime for me. Goodnight

buoyant skiff
#

@dense roost might work good for your retro theme

dense roost
#

i'll have a look

buoyant skiff
#

@dense roost you do know that you can define which font-family your using right ?

dense roost
#

@buoyant skiff haha the marquee is awesome i'm pretty sure my wife would kill me if she saw stuff scrolling across the screen

#

i do, whys that?

buoyant skiff
#

cause css loading will be possible soon

#

might be a good font from google to go along with your theme in there

dense roost
#

ohhh I wasn't even thinking about that possibility. I looked earlier and it didn't look like anyone was working on it, i'm still trying to figure github out.

#

I edited some of the custom alarm panel, easier to hit the buttons

buoyant skiff
#

nice

placid geyser
#

Good morning (or whatever time of the day you have)

dense roost
#

device tracker, when wife home she's in a hot air balloon, when gone, a black hole swallowed her up.

#

@placid geyser 10:22pm ugh

placid geyser
#

OMG that is so neat.

#

@dense roost 7:23am. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

dense roost
#

haha ty i had the idea to add security drones around the house to signify the alarm being armed

#

i wonder if animated gifs are supported in picture elements

placid geyser
#

that would be even prettier...

#

Is all your UI looking like a cartoon?

dense roost
#

@placid geyser lol yeah it does. I really like the retro look.

placid geyser
#

๐Ÿ˜ฒ I wouldn't even know how to start...

#

@dense roost are the states separate images or do you show/hide overlaid images or your cartoonified selfs?

rocky merlin
#

LOL @dense roost

dense roost
#

@placid geyser it's a picture-elements with state images overlaid for home and away for each person.
@rocky merlin ๐Ÿ˜„

placid geyser
#

@dense roost great. I love that style. It looks really great.

high canyon
#

@north spear https://imgur.com/xZ3wiPh Updated, I like the fact the center tells you current temp now. Got an alignment issue with short titles, but this is probably lovelace not you.

rocky merlin
#

Need to code some more and tidy it up plus documentation and I will release it for any that are interested

rocky merlin
#

Kinda like the old-school temperature thingys.... Grew up with those...

north spear
#

@high canyon tap it for set point

high canyon
#

I saw, looks good so far ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

fair star
#

is there a way to program a refresh for a picture element? I have it pointed at a traffic cam but keeps the same image?. they use js to change on on their site.

half cradle
#

Hi all just started my first card here do i need to do a reset of Ha each time i enter something

mild veldt
#

@half cradle no. Just hard refresh of the page

half cradle
#

@mild veldt i thought so i just get get anything to display

#

all i want at the moment is something basic, the time and date and weather ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

rocky merlin
#

ops forgot to change icon hehe

wheat current
#

It just states clearly that it can be used for multiple things with the temp icon there ๐Ÿ˜‰

rocky merlin
#

Hehe yea thats a way to look at it @wheat current ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

mortal linden
#

@fair star What's the website

#

I'm wondering in general if there's a way to resize the width of the panels in lovelace easily

rocky merlin
sudden lion
#

Hellstrรธm? really ๐Ÿ˜„

rocky merlin
#

hehe w t h I am swedish ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

half cradle
#

ok i have got my first lot of stuff in a few little questions if i can please , i am doing my tv settings first ,

  1. i have all the channles listed no issues and they work , how do i check the little image to the left side to a custom image
  2. i have the power on and off in the same list home how i move it to say another box or area on the page and make it look better
#

what i would really like it just replce them all with images

wheat current
raven nacelle
#

@rocky merlin those will look great for temperature and humidity on the picture elements card. Looking forward to it

half cradle
#

ok i get there are ways to do that and just pointing me to the main page isnt thebest help i dont expect you to do it for me but to the correct page would be nice

wheat current
#

There are multiple "Picture" options on that page (on the rigth side).
They serve different purposes, where piture-elements are the one that will give you most custom posibilities.
You need to figure out what you want before anyone can help you ๐Ÿ˜‰

placid geyser
#

@rocky merlin nice gauges. Does the gauge for the cpu load 'scale' dynamically? I just wonder, as you have 0.0-1.0 and the load doesn't have a fixed range as from 0-1 or so.

mild veldt
#

@half cradle Using picture-elements I was able to just grab a screenshot of my Roku remote from my phone and overlay transparent images on the buttons to have a really nice looking remote with very little design effort on my part

rocky merlin
#

@placid geyser I guess one could make them scaled dynamically. I only support what the original libs are supporting. But you can shoose any range. See https://canvas-gauges.com/ for different gauge options. Load I honestly dont know what that is... hehe Just saw it and used it

half cradle
#

@mild veldt so you used picture element i will have to have a play thats for that

mild veldt
#

picture element is the most versatile card. note; if you plan on using mobile and making it look good, add the style transform: none to each element added to the card so that things don't shift between resolutions

dense roost
#

@mild veldt so that's why it's happening...

half cradle
#

ok cool

#

i am still very new to it all so i am still working out how to use it all this is my first dfay on it

mild veldt
#

@dense roost be prepared to have to redo all your positions ๐Ÿ˜ข

placid geyser
#

@rocky merlin yeah, load is a bit difficult. You can easily see server with a load of 20. I just wanted to let you know that its value can be quite unpredictable.

rocky merlin
#

Thanks hehe

mild veldt
#

@half cradle I've been playing with it for about a week now. It's pretty well designed and easy to use. There are also a lot of custom cards out there that people have made for edge cases

dense roost
#

@half cradle it takes awhile to get everything. Give it some time and don't expect to understand everything right away. I was incredibly frustrated at first but it eventually came.

raven nacelle
dense roost
#

Now if we could just get css import, that would solve literally every problem I have.

mild veldt
#

@raven nacelle YES! I used it on my floor plan for the same reasons. iOS vs Chrome desktop

#

I hope that there is a better solution in the future though

#

@dense roost its slotted for the next release

dense roost
#

I've noticed different devices have different assignments for picture elements

mild veldt
#

@raven nacelle the only problem with using transform: none is then I can't flip my icons around ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

raven nacelle
#

how do you mean?

mild veldt
#

so my cameras look to be facing the wrong way

raven nacelle
#

Ohhh

mild veldt
#

it's literally the worst thing ever, lol

dense roost
#

@mild veldt just turn your real life cameras around so they face the proper way ๐Ÿ˜…

raven nacelle
#

There are couple of elements where it may work for me

mild veldt
#

3smart5me

raven nacelle
#

trying it out

mild veldt
#

@raven nacelle yeah, I didn't seem to need to do it on the first 20% or so of the left side

broken mango
#

Just installed custom_updater and tracker_card. Can't make tracker_card work. Getting Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'replace' of undefined

wheat current
#

Update the card, that comes from an older version

dense roost
#

Has anyone noticed when using an image in a picture-elements and styling its position something like bottom: 0 that it's actually positioned maybe 10% from the bottom?

raven nacelle
#

@dense roost are you using padding?

dense roost
#

@raven nacelle am not. Nor margin

#

I've begun positioning things negatively to get them to align properly.

wheat current
#

bottom: 0 is where the top of the card/element will start

raven nacelle
#

then try padding....I recall experiencing something like that where I had to use 110%

mild veldt
#

outside 0-100!mindblown

dense roost
#

Could it be the image being smaller or larger than it appears on the screen? Things get resized when using horizontal and vertical stacks

mild veldt
#

this solves some use cases of mine!

broken mango
#

@wheat current I've just downloaded it from github. Assuming it's latest

wheat current
#

@broken mango Then you should look at the logs, that is the same version I have

polar kelp
#

So... is @buoyant skiff getting married, or what's up?

buoyant skiff
#

lol

#

wtf

polar kelp
#

It was just a guess off the top of my head.. Also I'm going to a wedding which matches well with your countdown.

buoyant skiff
#

nope vacation

polar kelp
#

That's almost as good.

buoyant skiff
#

promised to do an example repo on my vacation

polar kelp
#

I see. Add me to the list of people looking forward to that.

#

Personally I found it was easier to get HA-stuff done before the vacation.

#

Onto serious discussion: I'm experimenting with a custom card which displays other cards in automatic columns. As close as possible to the default layout. What do people think of that idea?

#

My thought is that it can be used with the panel: true-with-vertical-stack-trick to have a header and automatically order cards below it.

wheat current
#

So the default layout/function, only streched to use 100%?

buoyant skiff
#

ohh a column-card

#

that could be useful

polar kelp
#

column-card, exactly what I call it.

#

It's almost done. I'll try to get a few more hours into it tonight.

buoyant skiff
#

nice ๐Ÿ˜„

alpine mason
#

Hello there! Is there a way to add a custom css to the main ui? (to make some specific changes to navigation etc.)

polar kelp
#
resources:
  - url: /local/mycss.css
    type: css

in the root of your ui-lovelace.yaml might work

wheat current
#

Is that avaiable now? ๐Ÿ˜„

polar kelp
#

I thought so. Haven't tried...

gaunt owl
#

I want to display climate entities in a custom manner. Nothing hugely different like the nest-looking thermostat I've seen going around. Just some tweaks. Are there docs somewhere for something like this?

wheat current
#

@polar kelp Unknown resource type specified: ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

polar kelp
#

Sorry.

#

I thought I saw it in an example somewhere. Must have been mistaken.

wheat current
#

There is a PR that has been merged that will give that option ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

alpine mason
#

@wheat current @polar kelp Ok some wait and see, thanks!

gaunt owl
#

is there a way to override the way hui-text-entity-row/hui-generic-entity-row displays data for a particular entity type?

buoyant skiff
#

its not

#

its comming soon css loading

gaunt owl
#

ah. ok.

#

Is there an easy way to make the "full card" popup that happens in the "entities" card type happen in a custom card without reinventing the wheel?

buoyant skiff
#

panel: true ?

wheat current
#

I think he ment the card-dialog you get when clicking on a entity

gaunt owl
#

yes that.

wheat current
#

@buoyant skiff you are the authority on all things Lovelace, is that possible?

buoyant skiff
#

nope

#

just another user

gaunt owl
#

also... is there a URL that will display a particular lovelace "tab"/view without all the extra HASS fluff around it?

high canyon
#

I would like that too, a "kiosk" mode url

gaunt owl
#

right

buoyant skiff
#

not at the moment

#

think its coming in next version

high canyon
#

ace!

buoyant skiff
#

ask balloob next time hes around

wheat current
#

@gaunt owl if you use the state-label, state-icon, image or iconin the picture-elements card you get the more-info dialog when you click it

gaunt owl
#

@wheat current let me look into that card type and see if I can bend it to my will.

#

@wheat current I guess I could use a plain white image as my image and do it that way. Seems like overkill... but it just might work. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

wheat current
#

Yes you can

north spear
#

added outside ring to show when in setpoint mode

exotic notch
#

@north spear beautiful.... i need to get RTFMing the LL stuff

high canyon
#

@north spear sweet, away for a couple of weeks so looking forward to a nice finished widget when I am back :p

raven nacelle
#

Looking great @north spear

mild veldt
#

@polar kelp column card sounds perfect for custom remotes

#

Assuming it will have rows as well

north spear
#

I am going away this weekend and I am a bit behind, so wonโ€™t have controls until next week

#

@raven nacelle i will update again the branch for some tests

north spear
#

would you expect background to go black when in config mode? or keep the blue/yellow state ?

raven nacelle
#

I guess both are fine

#

We call leave it in the current mode

#

So if it is black, it stays black during config. If it was cooling when we start config, we can leave it blue

#

No point briefly changing it to black

north spear
#

ok

faint echo
#

Hi, is there any way to resize a card (make it smaller) in lovelace, specifically a picture-entity or picture-glance card?

polar kelp
#

@mild veldt It would be an autoamtic number of columns based on the width - like the default layout. For a remote with a squareish layout, you'd be better off with nested vertical-stack and horizontal-stack.

mild veldt
#

@polar kelp I've used picture elements so far to make it really customizable for remotes

buoyant skiff
#

it is possible to do in picture elements

#

just make sure to lock it down with transform

#

and dont make the tappable area too huge

#

so it works in all resolutions

mild veldt
#

my fitbit card is complete, I think: https://imgur.com/a/BhynmVj
Submitted a few changes to the circle sensor repo to add drop shadows, select on attributes instead of state
The battery is also a image with state_images for different battery levels. Think it turned out pretty well

#

@buoyant skiff what do you think?

buoyant skiff
#

looks nice

#

does it hold up in diffrent resolutions ?

mild veldt
#

yes, it does

buoyant skiff
#

awesome

mild veldt
#

would like to have it not so spread out on the stats, but in order to support my dinky iphone se, I had to space them quite a bit

mossy gale
#

@mild veldt very nice mate

buoyant skiff
#

for the javascript devs in here

wheat current
#

Now that was a nice weather card ๐Ÿ˜„

split granite

๐Ÿ˜ฎ

#

Damn. That's sooo nice

#

Feature request!!!!!

buoyant skiff
#

or better graphs

split granite
#

Ooooooooooh

wheat current
#

Those looks like the the graphs in Kibana ๐Ÿ˜›

split granite
#

๐Ÿคค

buoyant skiff
#

two scripts i would love for it to come over to lovelace

#

would make it look so pretty

mild veldt
#

@buoyant skiff you have a new vacation assignment. Bring those things into Lovelace...OR ELSE!

#

Honestly though, these are great and might be a good reason for me to start looking into making some custom cards...but my vacation actually starts tomorrow as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I'll be camping so no computer/internet for a week!

hybrid jolt
#

hello. Is there a way to set the point at which cards go from the left column to right?

#

im trying to display my UI on a tablet and i dont want to scroll :x

split granite
#

You can use the vertical and horizontal stack cards to force a specific layout

hybrid jolt
#

figured that was the solution, ty!@

mild veldt
#

@north spear Got the thermo card running. Looking great so far!

polar kelp
#

Status update: No column-card this side of the weekend.

polar kelp
#

At least not from me

north spear
#

Maybe bust the cache

#

@mild veldt i will add big up and down arrows after tap to update the setpoint

#

But probably sunday or start of next week

#

I am unsure if I should add operation mode and other controls on the thermo or as side buttons

#

Like a hidden drawer

raven nacelle
#

mode meaning....heat/cool?

north spear
#

Yes and fan controls

#

Humidity I can easily add on current view

raven nacelle
#

Why do we need heat/cool control

#

if people change the temp settings, it will automatically change

#

also, not sure how many ppl play with fan settings on Thermostat

#

we can add all those, but it will make things complicated

north spear
#

Heat/cool/auto and off are useful

raven nacelle
#

true...they are

north spear
#

People will let it on off during summer sometimes

#

Or auto of they have hvac

raven nacelle
#

I have mine set it at auto....so it automatically changes

north spear
#

But it doesnโ€™t change much

#

Yeah

raven nacelle
#

but I can see the need for it when ppl don't use auto

north spear
#

That is true

#

Still a rarely used control

#

Same for fan

raven nacelle
#

yeah, that is what I meant

#

it is not the most important control

north spear
#

Ok. Separate ui than

#

You can tap a settings icon and open a drawer

raven nacelle
#

DO you think it may be better to show icon for AWAY like the leaf that you have?

north spear
#

So I assume with +/- it should be usable already

raven nacelle
#

exactly

north spear
#

Yeah. Leaf is already for auto

raven nacelle
#

auto or away?

north spear
#

Wasnโ€™t sure what to leave om screen

#

Away slrry

#

Sorry

raven nacelle
#

we can still have the ambient temp

north spear
#

Leaf = away

raven nacelle
#

yeah

north spear
#

Oki

raven nacelle
north spear
#

Are you happy with looks on tap?

raven nacelle
#

yes

#

looks great

#

we can have the chevron signs for changing temp

#

^

north spear
#

Yes that was the plan

#

And make whole top snd bottom parts tappable

#

To have big enough area on mobile

raven nacelle
#

perfect

#

so just thinking how will it work...right now when I tap, I see 68-79

#

the range

north spear
#

On dual set point you will get 4 areas

raven nacelle
#

ok

#

makes sense

north spear
#

Top left top right bottom left and bottom right

#

I updated logic on outer ticks

#

So they now show active only for what the thermostat is trying to adjust

#

And only show numbers for that interval if in dual set point mode (auto)

raven nacelle
#

yeah...it is looking great

north spear
#

It is a bit more logical than the nonesense I had there initially

#

I am happy how this is starting to look

#

I am not sure if I will implement hold and drag for setpoint change

#

That will only work with 1 setpoint not with auto and itโ€™s a bit less intuitive

#

Maybe I implement some long hold for one of the modes

#

Or maybe for humidity target change

#

And use a water drop symbol like the thermometer when you tap

#

Or maybe even make it customizable

raven nacelle
#

do most therm allow target humidity ?

#

I guess if you have humidifier attached

north spear
#

Nah, only most advanced, but than again I was asked to allow it to combine multiple entities

#

So you could have a separate humidifier

#

Or even a fan or two thermostats that combined would allow auto mode

raven nacelle
#

then we can just have humidity information

#

and not worry about controlling it

north spear
#

That as well

#

Anyone here using my gauge component. Was wondering if people are interested for extra algorythms for range

#

Like logarithmic or exponential distribution of range

#

I would like it for things like uptime or power where you can have big spikes

storm lion
#

I use it, and to be honest thing it's perfect as it is

#

well for my uses anyway

prime umbra
#

hi i was trying to change icons from switches in a picture-glance card but for some reason will only show me the normal switch icon

- type: picture-glance
        camera_image: camera.ert
        entities:
          - entity: switch.light1
            icon: mdi:power
          - entity: switch.light2
            icon: mdi:lightbulb
#

aim doing something wrong or isn't this feature possible yet?

fringe chasm
#

Hi!
could you guys point me towards a good solution to showing a HVAC unit in Lovelace?
this is the only piece missing and I can't find anything that would work

#

thanks!

fathom tree
#

@prime umbra I believe you have to change the icon in the Customization in HA. That's the way I got it to work.

#

They will then look like lights or whatever icon you choose throughout HA, but that's probably okay.

prime umbra
#

ahh cool @fathom tree , thanks

fathom tree
#

๐Ÿ‘

raven nacelle
#

@fringe chasm Is your unit supported by HA? meaning, do you already have a climate entity?

prime umbra
#

@fathom tree looking at it i would have a problem cause in my customize i have put a picture for my switchs for a diferent panel on the HA
on my picture-glance card just shows the regular switch thunder not the pic i have set in customize

#

so the picture-glance is getting that mdi: from somewhere, no idea

fathom tree
#

let me tinker a minute. Maybe there's another way...

quick beacon
#

wait for 0.75 (beta), it allows changing icons

fathom tree
#

sweet! cuz what I was trying wasn't going to work.

prime umbra
#

@fathom tree you right

#

the picture comes from entity_picture(json formatted)

#

change icon wont afect

#

sweet thanks for the hint ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

so then not eaven needs this sense didnt afect nothing

entities:
          - entity: switch.light1
            icon: mdi:power

just needs:

entities:
     - entity: switch.light1
#

i would thought that by doing the first line should affect directly the customization

#

i guess i spoke to earlie, the new icon will show but soon you click on it, will revert back to the old one

fringe chasm
#

@raven nacelle : yes the unit is supported, I can control it from the old UI

prime umbra
#

thanks @quick beacon

shell torrent
#

can a card be populated by a group? when I enter a group as an entity (- group.lights_pool_grp) I just get one row representing the whole group, not all the group's entities as I excpected

wheat current
#

You add entities to a card, the group is a entity and will just show it self

shell torrent
#

yeah that works fine. but no more "organizing entities in groups and re-use the groups in several cards" then?

#

how to best structure your entities so you for example don't need to manually add new devices in 5 different cards?

mild veldt
#

assuming you are talking about only lights?

#

in which case you should be using light groups

wheat current
#

What type of entities do you want to have in 5 different cards? ๐Ÿค”

shell torrent
#

lights sometimes, but also switches and other info. in the old structure, I have a group called "Pool area" which contins "pool lights", Lights in the pool area", "Poolpump (switch)", Poolpump current consuption" and so on

#

That group is on the main view, but it is also included in the Outdoors view.

mild veldt
#

monster card!

#

@shell torrent you can create a card based on a filter, e.g. "pool" and get all entities fo rit

shell torrent
#

@mild veldt Yeah, the new filters are great - but not really what I'm looking for

#

@mild veldt But I'll sure check out the monster card

mild veldt
#

You need to better define your use case then

rocky merlin
#

Ok this is how my gauge cards look on a picture elements card

mild veldt
#

@rocky merlin that's dumb

#

and by that I mean, it's dumb that I don't have it yet, lol!

prime umbra
#

@empty heath i had already lovelace set so everytime i run the add on it will basikly start a fresh lovelace based on the old frontend
so my question is what if i just want to run the addon for backup my current ui-lovelace.yaml
how to go about it?

rocky merlin
#

Lol @mild veldt

mild veldt
#

@rocky merlin seriously, that is looking sick af!

#

can't wait for you to release that for us ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

wheat current
#

@prime umbra create a shell_command for that

shell_command:
  ll_backup: "cp /config/ui-lovelace.yaml /backup/ui-lovelace{{now().strftime('%Y_%m_%d_%H%M%S')}}.yaml"
#

did not work :(

prime umbra
#

๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

i tried use the addon output

"output": "/backup/ui-lovelace.yaml",

but for some reason it will erase my current ui-lovelace.yaml and replace with the new one in config folder

wheat current
#

That is the purpose of that addon

fading sorrel
#

Hold on

prime umbra
#

would be nice if the addon would have 2 purposes migration and backup

fading sorrel
#

Releasing a new version

and some people that already have it set could use for do backups

@fading sorrel this guy. Being all useful and junk ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

When's the next stream @fading sorrel. I enjoyed the last one

#

The last one I saw, I guess

#

<-wykkydwayne

shell torrent
#

@mild veldt Yeah, I'll try to define it a little bit better. The most typical usecase would be the rooms:
All lights in the kitchen are in the "Kitchen lights group". The lights in the livingroom are the "Livingroom lights group". And so on.
The groups are used in scripts and the same groups are used in views. It would be nice to use them in cards also without typing in all the entities again.
It works fine in the old UI, and it would be nice to find a way in Lovelace.

fading sorrel
#

@prime umbra There was a small error in the current version with the path... the backup thing does not honor the output path

#

@mild veldt We have a heatwave here... so it won't be a pretty sight... that's why I'm not streaming atm

mild veldt
#

@shell torrent I think the monster card solves that scenario

north spear
fading sorrel
#

@prime umbra v0.1.1 of the add-on has been released. If you update it, the backup would honor the output setting for backups

@north spear You are the man!

mild veldt
#

I'm going to need a bigger tablet to show off all these awesome creations everyone is making!

prime umbra
#

@fading sorrel now didnt override my current lovelace but the backup didnt make it from my current lovelace.yaml, it made based on old frontend

#

is this how is supose to be

north spear
#

Group expansion should be easy with a custom card, but than again why not use whole group for on/off if thise lights are grouped anyway

shell torrent
#

@north spear Thanks so much. Very useful. I assume it is just activated when id = kiosk which means you can only have one kiosk view. For me that's fine, but I like the feature so much, it should be an option for all views ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

fading sorrel
#

@prime umbra Not sure what you are trying to do, but this thing generates a lovelace ui for you on output location. If that already exists, it will backup that output location first.

#

nothing more, nothing less

north spear
#

@shell torrent might work with query string too as well

#

Like: /lovelace/4?kiosk

#

Can you try it?

shell torrent
#

@north spear Just a sec!

prime umbra
#

@fading sorrel basikly i already had my lovelace file done, so i was trying to just use the add has a backup tool hehe

shell torrent
#

@north spear Damn. It just works.

#

I'm impressed!

north spear
#

๐Ÿ˜ƒ

shell torrent
#

@north spear You should advertise that one. I'm sure there are others looking for that.

#

Really great. Thanks a lot!

#

Is it possible to delay the startup of an add-on? I use deCONZ and Unifi add-ons, but the Unifi refuses to load at reboot as long as deCONZ is enabled. It seems to be due to some port sharing that Unifi add-on doesn't like. If I disable deCONZ, Unifi starts at reboot. And if I enable deCONZ it won't, but if I just wait a minute or so and start Unifi manually, it works fine.

fading sorrel
#

@prime umbra If that was the purpose, it would have been called Lovelace Backup ๐Ÿ˜‰

north spear
#

You can backup lovelace with a partial snapshot anyway

empty heath
#

@prime umbra using the init_commands and post_commands, you can trick it into doing a backup.

raven nacelle
#

@north spear I tried adding the thermo card on the picture-elements card as a custom-card

#

so the white card around it should not appear

Here's the config that I used:```

entity: climate.bedroom
hvac:
attribute: operation
style:
top: 20%
left: 45%
width: 50px
height: 50px

In the UI the graphs that are displayed are exatly the same (they seem to be the kitchen sensor's) and the names displayed in the Living Room tab are the friendly_name attributes (from customize.yaml) of

That doesn't look right?!

@calm rock Don't think so....LL is a different approach that is inspired by all the options out there and, I am thinking, it will make many of the other frontend options less relevant.

calm rock

@raven nacelle , agree , but the way to create buttons on dashboard and easily get a working mobile interface , is very good on dashboard , should not be difficult ( easy to say) , to create a similar "card" in lovelace

Hah, good point.

faint echo
#

is it possible to apply opacity to a glance card? Thought I saw it applied to a picture-element card but wasn't sure if it would work on other cards.

raven nacelle
#

not sure how opacity would work with glance card...it only allows you to list entities and does not allow styling individual entities

faint echo
#

I was hoping I could allow the background picture to show through the card somewhat

#

I do something similar in HADashboard was thinking I might be able to do it here too

raven nacelle
faint echo
#

I think that's a little different, by putting a picture in a glance card. I just wanted to alter the opacity so you could see the picture behind the glance card or even an entity card

raven nacelle
#

how will you have anything behind the glance card?

#

unless you are talking about the background

yes the background

raven nacelle

Sweet @buoyant skiff I wish I had a map for my robot. My card is not nearly as fun ๐Ÿ˜„

buoyant skiff
#

greeter card totally done

weak salmon
#

Thanks toast! I havenโ€™t fully sunk my teeth into Lovelace yet, but can we still use the groups created in groups.yaml within ui-lovelace.yaml ?

empty heath
#

@weak salmon no, unfortunately

#

The only thing that groups are good for in lovelace, is converting to Lovelace. Lol

weak salmon
#

But we can use the groups that ha creates? Ie groups.all_lights

empty heath
#

I am not sure how group.all_lights acts in Lovelace entities card.

#

It definitely wonโ€™t show up as a group ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

If anything, it will show as a single entity.

buoyant skiff
#

iirc they show up as single entites

empty heath
#

I can probably test real quick.

#

Give me a few minutes to find my way back to the bed and get settled. Still in a bit of pain, so it takes me a lot longer now.

buoyant skiff
#

thats why im glad im using telldus cause if i create a turn on all lights there

#

telldus handles the backend call

#

so it shows up perfectly in ha

weak salmon
#

I just tried using one of my old groups on a card. It creates one entity with a new icon I havenโ€™t seen before. A circle with three dots. The toggle is like a master switch (like the header toggle). But if I tap the icon, it brings up everything in that group in a pop up card.

#

Still serves some functionality.

#

@buoyant skiff I just tried with group.all_lights it didnโ€™t split the entities. ๐Ÿ™

buoyant skiff
#

ok

subtle rune
#

@weak salmon If you want an easy way to get a card with all lights visible I recommend using the monster card with a light.* filter

#

Want a link?

buoyant skiff
#

๐Ÿ˜„

weak salmon
#

@subtle rune Lovelace is brand new, so Iโ€™m still wrapping my head around it. But yes, link me please!

shell torrent
#

@onkytonk Also, if you use groups in views today, don't miss the Lovelace migration tool. Then you don't need to put in all entities manually. Still no groups, but less writing

#

The migration tool is awesome. Saved me hours.

empty heath
#

~monster-card @weak salmon @subtle rune

kind shellBOT
#

@weak salmon @subtle rune Monster card is a magical type of card. Because it's dynamic if you're smart about it, you can have one card that adapts and that you don't need to touch when adding new entities & sensors to your setup. Supports both inclusion and exclusion filters with wildcard for entity_id: https://github.com/ciotlosm/custom-lovelace/tree/master/monster-card

empty heath
#

@shell torrent I am very glad to hear that! I'm glad people are getting use out of it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

weak salmon
#

@non eheadfraggle#5194 Iโ€™ve already used the migration tool, which has done the heavy lifting for me. But I liked groups to simply if I needed to reuse the same group on a different tab.

shell torrent
#

Yeah, I miss groups too. But it's a start ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

empty heath
#

@weak salmon That makes sense, but there might be a solution for you after-all ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

Still trying to figure out how to use it.

#

1 sec.

subtle rune
#

I mean that you dont use the group.all_lights, and instead use monster card with include. ```- type: custom:monster-card
card:
type: entities
title: Lights
filter:
include:
- entity_id: "light.*"

#

That gives me the exact same results as group.all_lights in the old ui

#

Doesn't solve the reuse problem though of course

empty heath
#

BOOM, did it.

#

Wow, this is great @weak salmon

weak salmon
#

@subtle rune thatโ€™s awesome! Makes sense, and the dynamic nature is great!

subtle rune
#

@open wharf Yeah, I love the dynamic cards. No updating needed when adding another light etc

empty heath
weak salmon
#

Just need to work out how to create my own dynamic groups now. So, if I add a new entity, the dynamic card can automatically identify which card to add it to.

empty heath
#

@weak salmon If monster-card support attribute entities now, you should be able to assign any attribute you want via customize: and have it be recognized by Lovelace.

#

@buoyant skiff You see that ^ duplicating cards

weak salmon
#

@empty heath that duplicating card thing is great! Can I then say, combine two cards, or add an entity to an existing card?

empty heath
#

It might be a little more challenging and more involved, but I think I can make it work.

#

(the add an entity to an existing card one)

weak salmon
#

Thatโ€™s just how I use to use groups. So itโ€™d be nice. But Iโ€™m sure I just need to get used to using Lovelace and work out how I can get it to do what I want.

subtle rune
#

@buoyant skiff Can I contribute my picture elements card with temperatures etc and my picture elements plant card to the "share the love" page?

#

I have gotten many questions about the config ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

empty heath
#

Setting a differnt title for the card:

  - title: View 2
    cards:
      - <<: *card1
        title: Card 3
#

@weak salmon Just know that when Home Assistant implements a configurable Lovelace UI (drag-and-drop, etc), it will not support YAML node anchors.

weak salmon
#

@subtle rune So say I use a naming scheme for all my living room entities like this: switch.livingroom_lamp, switch.livingroom_lamp2, I could then use filter/include/entityid: โ€œswitch.livingroom_*โ€
Would that work?

subtle rune
#

Absolutely!

weak salmon
#

Brilliant!

#

Then every time I add a new device, I just use the same naming scheme, and it will automatically appear in the card!

subtle rune
#

Ain't it glorious!

weak salmon
#

Means I have some entity renaming to do. ๐Ÿ˜ซ

shell torrent
#

With that approach, is there a way to use same approach in scripts? Like switch.turn_on entities switch.kitchen* ?

buoyant skiff
#

Sure @subtle rune will sort you out later today

shell torrent
#

That would make it super dynamic ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

subtle rune
#

@buoyant skiff Great! I will be gone for a bit during the day but I'll be here this evening again I think

empty heath
#

@weak salmon Nope, I can't seem to get list merging working (and everywhere I've read says that it is not supported in YAML)

#

@shell torrent You can kind of do the switch.turn_on approach with an automation/script as it sits right now.

buoyant skiff
#

I'm going to be busy anyways so that's ok

empty heath
#

@shell torrent Here ya go:

script:
  kitchen_lights_on:
    sequence:
      - service: light.turn_on
        data_template:
          entity_id: >-
            {% set comma = joiner(', ') %}
            {%- for light in states.light if 'light.kitchen_' in light.entity_id -%}
              {{ comma() }}{{ light.entity_id }}
            {%- endfor -%}
#

There's also a one-liner to do it, but it involves a lot more filters.

shell torrent
#

@dale3h Cruel!

#

Agree with @weak salmon then. Some renaming to do!

weak salmon
#

Only issue Iโ€™m seeing now, is that using a dynamic card, you have no control over the order. I think itโ€™s alphabetical.

empty heath
#

Yup, that is one of the reasons it was removed from core ๐Ÿ˜‰

shell torrent
#

Yeah, that's a tough one. Hard to see how to get HA to guess which order you'd like them in and still keep it dynamic

#

I'd the real name or friendly name used for sorting?

#

-I'd +Is
