forest edge
#

here in the states when you buy a new water heater the delievery people come and do all of that lol

#

not repair the cold water shut off, but deal with disconnecting the exsisting tank and hauling it off

#

@clear ferry thought for sure you just had yaks come lay around the tank to heat up the water

last cedar
#

Yaks? In Norway? Might be confusing it with mooses

#

Mooseses

forest edge
#

oh well every so often he posts a picture of what he's eating on his way to work and it looked like yak vomit so i figured..

last cedar
#

Hahahahaha

clear ferry
#

We don't have yaks, we have Muskox though

#

Also moose is tasty

forest edge
#

don't say raw

clear ferry
#

That works too

#

But usually in steak, or sausage or indigenous people stew

@granite hare πŸ€”

clear ferry
#

@static schooner long pig you say

forest edge
#

@static schooner odd i never heard of that movie

clear ferry
#

Wtf

#

How is that possible

tidal bronze
#

@forest edge anode ?

static schooner
#

and now I know "long pig"

clear ferry
#

@static schooner you're welcome

static schooner
#

TIL

forest edge
#

@tidal bronze yea the rod in your water heater (well you probably got one of those insta hot things lol) that attracts corrosion to prevent it from eating at the tank, sacraficial rod

clear ferry
#

Not swapped if your water is above sludge shit water quality

#

🀏

forest edge
#

only your side of the world has those issues lol

clear ferry
#

I'll have to ask a plumber about it, yet to find a single person who ever has swapped it

forest edge
#

most don't

clear ferry
#

Except for haxxxa

forest edge
#

tanks are so affordable it's almost pointless

clear ferry
#

But he lives in Asstralia

#

Our tanks live 30 years without swapping, so it can't be that corrosive

#

🀫

#

Haxxa talked about 3-5 years

forest edge
#

just measn the rod is doing it's job

tidal bronze
#

@forest edge its all gas and tankless why bother with all this rods and crap

forest edge
#

and maybe the walls of your tanks are an inch thick lol

static schooner
#

replacement rods are as cheap as $12 on Amazon

forest edge
#

@tidal bronze not everyone has that, plus those insta water heaters have to be flushed periodically to maintain their life as well

tidal bronze
#

Hmm no after the whole house filter softener

forest edge
#

they still need tobe flushed

clear ferry
#

Softener πŸ‘Ž

tidal bronze
#

@forest edge first time I am hearing about flushing πŸ˜†

forest edge
#

@tidal bronze cause that dosen't make them money you knowing how to extend it's life

tidal bronze
#

If you run it without a filter yes but not otherwise.

forest edge
#

filters etc, they help but calcium and everything still gets in. just not 3ft thick like in atx tank

tidal bronze
#

I stopped comparing with Norway. It's all Martian shit over there. We are simply mere mortals.

forest edge
#

insta heaters are prone cause it's like a single short 1/2 pipe that gets super heated that heats the water as it passes, unless you havve a hybrid and that's not much better cause thats a pipe and a tank lol

tidal bronze
#

25 year replacement warranty. If it works 10 to 15 more than enough. Time to upgrade.

forest edge
#

there isn't a lot to corrode but performance degrades as sediment collects thus why they need to be flushed

#

thats why they have longer life spans and cost more

tidal bronze
#

Better to replace go with better efficiency in 10 years. They are pretty cheap. No point in hugging to old tech.

forest edge
#

lol cheap

#

they are like 3x a tank

static schooner
#

and usually require a separate gas line and have issues with low flow rates

#

I don't think they're better as much as different

tidal bronze
#

High flow gas lines anyway for pool/spa heaters. Tankless is small compared to them.

forest edge
#

telling you, he's opening a resort

tidal bronze
#

Lol. It's normal here. I am not sure what resort you are talking about.

forest edge
#

one day we will all come and trash his house lol

#

atx will be chasing his rabbit for a snack

tidal bronze
#

Tankless + Pool heater 600K BTU. Thank you Natural Gas. 🀣

forest edge
#

till comes the day you have to switch to electric lol

tidal bronze
#

I will have to move

forest edge

lol

#

I hear Louisiana is nice...

tidal bronze

Oh boy. Humidity😫

forest edge
#

I thought you liked getting wet lmao

tidal bronze

Not with sweat, no thank you.

tidal bronze
#

Little sonomas all over the place. Wowza

#

If one is creating this much havoc I can only imagine.

tidal bronze
#

BTW NM beef jerky is pretty soft

forest edge
#

depends how it's made

#

I don't care for jerky really, especially after eating deer jerky

tidal bronze
#

The ones on the side of the freeway is best with double layer of dust and smoke. Hickory got no chance.

forest edge
#

peperoni jerky i could handle lol

#

those do often turn into something someone eats and mounts on a wall

tidal bronze
#

@shy comet did you check out Tiny World ?

shy comet
#

first im hearing of it lol

tidal bronze
#

Simply unreal. ATMOS and cinematography nxtlvl

#

Been trying to figure out how they got some of those shots and angles.

#

Episode 2 there's an aerial reveal time-lapse. Only apple money can do that. πŸ˜†

forest edge
#

paul rudd from KC lol

tidal bronze
#

He is actually good.

forest edge
#

meh, not as good as some classic actors lol

tidal bronze
#

Yes not Robert Redford at narrating

forest edge
#

? that tiny world?

#

oh nm

#

read your thing wrong

dusky plank
forest edge
#

Yes not Morgan Freeman at narrating
@tidal bronze fixed

tidal bronze
#

@dusky plank hand held vari zoom from a heli

#

Close to impossible to pull that shot from a drone.

dusky plank
#

how's that work for that crazy distance?

tidal bronze
#

Cineflex or shotover stabilizer

forest edge
#

hired a basketball player to yeet the camera off the mountain and that is what it saw

tidal bronze
#

Drones don't do well in that cold weather. Lithium polymer batteries get 10% battery life. Lol.

forest edge
#

lol

tidal bronze
#

Even manned heli's only few pilots in the world can do artic flying for film. Hovering in high altitude for shots is an art by itself.

dusky plank
#

the whole movie is amazing

forest edge
#

thin air + wind. makes me think of that movie where they take the heli up Everest to rescue a party but it can't go to the top and they have to jump off to a ledge lol

tidal bronze

The best guy lives in Greenland. I was lucky to see his work first hand. If I am not mistaken highest paid stunt pilot in the world. Balls of steel.

do y'all that use nuba casa and google home just remove all of the devices from your google link and use the nuba casa to do everything? I'm guessing there'd be dupes if not.

You should try a auto rotate sequence with power off. Fun!

I like watching videos of that

it's like a requirement for your license, right?

or maybe a certain cert.

#

Thanks Tinkerer

tidal bronze
#

Requirement but very few do it for fun. 🀣

forest edge
#

travel by air is something i actively avoid if i can so learning anything about moves and maneuvers is not something I try and do lol

#

I know jet airlines are bumpy taking off smooth in the air, prop planes are shaky almost the whole time with annoying chop noise and helicopters feel like the bolts might come loose at any momment

tidal bronze
#

Checkout the redbull stunt heli. One of a kind. Hangar is at the airport we run high-speed RC cars. Jaw dropping shit on Sundays.

dusky plank
#

I don't like mateschitz

#

i like animals though, so tiny world is perfect now thx

forest edge

They have one like that in the hangar. Lol.

forest edge

tidal bronze

Actually Japanese and Chinese ad budgets are 5x Nike πŸ˜†

forest edge

tidal bronze
#

Of course.

#

Fun fact: Worked on a Japanese commercial with Usain Bolt. Electric chase car had trouble keeping up with him. That dude is fast.

@tidal bronze no HDR for tiny world???

im not seeing atm.os .either.

tidal bronze

ATMOS via DD+ is on mine.

shy comet

ah ok i saw the DD+ ones

#

did that series just come out or something?

#

narrated by Paul Rudd, should be pretty funny then

tidal bronze
#

Dude it's so good.

#

Better than any movie in the past few months. Check it out you will be amazed.

shy comet
#

i may wait a few days to see if HDR for it comes out

#

hard to watch nature shit without it lol

Mmmm nature shit

#

Gotta get that brown in just the right colour

#

@tidal bronze did you watch the new south park episode?

#

sorry my son keeps hitting the keyboard lOL

tidal bronze
#

I am not a fan.

shy comet
#

i was dying when they had cartman with the 6ft stick

#

and the whole chin diaper thing

subtle pasture
#

The chin diaper thing, yeah... I see way too many people wearing masks below their nose...

#

Also people wearing masks to get into stores, then immediately taking them off

static schooner
#

I don't see any of that in San Diego. Broad compliance

subtle pasture
#

I'm in a rural/conservative pocket of California... compliance is terrible

static schooner
#

sounds about right

subtle pasture
#

Sucks that mask-wearing got politicized when it's really about public health

#

I'd be cool with face masks being a thing every cold/flue season, honestly. Other countries already do it

static schooner
#

I expect that we're headed in that direction

last plaza
#

@shy comet is the episode released already or you talking about the trailer? I ordered a chin diaper hooded shirt from South Park Shop earlier, I should get it early next week.

static schooner

it's already out

last Thursday

last plaza

static schooner

last plaza

Most of the episodes are not kid friendly. But I might watch this episode with my kids. They are 13+, should be able to handle it. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

subtle pasture
#

@last plaza Without giving too much away, this particular episode of South Park contains bestiality... so factor that into your calculations

last plaza
#

Got it. Thank you! I usually watch first before I watch with them as a family. But good to know! 😊

#

I made that mistake earlier and learned from it πŸ˜‚

shy comet
#

im surprised we havnet seen an uptick in animation yet since they can do that entire episode from home

last plaza
#

They still need to collaborate πŸ˜€

last plaza
#

Just finished watching the episode. Chin diaper is funny! I had more hopes for it, hope they make it into a whole new series and not just one off episode.

static schooner
#

so what's the verdict on the kids?

forest edge
#

@last plaza don't worry real world have provided PLENTY of material for south park for episodes to come lol

I have been overruled to buy a nas as the computer I run unraid now is too large. I ran synology 918 and worked well with Plex, but was thinking synology 920+ with 16gb ram. Any other nas that is waf around that price range or is the synology still good? Just for Plex, file sharing and docker

last cedar

What do you have coming into your house btw? 3 phase like 25A?

clear ferry

We have three phase 63 a inlet

That is pretty normal

I have been to schools that don't have 63A in

That is $0.006 per kwh for drumpf

forest edge

basically norway is the worst efficient country in the world

95% of power is produced hydro electric, so we'll be fine

last cedar

Is it so many people? Has it grown to 35 now?

proven pasture
#

I want to put a clamp on my main electric feed in to the house and have that record in to home assistant. Any tips for me? This is in the UK. We have a "smart" meter

clear ferry
#

Use the smart meter?

last cedar
#

The smart meter might have an api you can lever

proven pasture
last cedar
#

And if not there are ones you put a sensor over the light, others with clamp meters. Can't think of any brands though

#

That is just single phase by the looks of it

forest edge
#

meter on the inside? that's scary lol

clear ferry
#

All Norwegian meters were replaced with smart meters last year, so we don't have to manually report power usage anymore, and that we can use local iot stuff to for example only charge the electric vehicles when power price is below X etc

#

@forest edge we don't do gas, so we don't care

proven pasture
#

Those smart meters should have a nice and easy open API that feeds in to home assistant so the householder can analyse etc... Haha, yeah right!

clear ferry
#

@proven pasture actually, we do 🀏

@proven pasture should

Hello, i have install home automation via docker, but it's missing plugins system (there are no tab hass.io) is there separate container or something for that?

clear ferry

Exactly

velvet horizonBOT
#

Not sure which install you're using? If you have system_health enabled you can check Configuration -> Info, or see the following.

  • If you're using HassOS, flashed an image, or booted a VM with an image you're using #330990055533576204

  • If you installed Linux and then ran a script to install HA and have add-ons then you have #330944238910963714

  • If you're running docker commands or use a Docker manager and have no add-ons then you have #449717345808547842

  • Finally, if you use pip to install or upgrade you have #551864459891703809

Having difficulty chosing an install method? See this blog post for guidance.

I have core now. Think OS will be what I move to

#

Gais, y no hassio work on mi Ubuntu?

last cedar
#

I just have been doing stuff with yaml at the moment, don't need anything "easier" than that in the future. But want to move it to a non raspi machine. I think that part is the bit that is confusing me. A docker or a virtual machine (that could then install via venv if that is still supported) would be fine.

clever mortar
#

Pi is just hardware, all of these options run on non-Pi

last cedar
#

I will probably stick with core then

#

I started with ha before lovelace gained any traction and kind of missed everything since then

#

So out of the loop

clear ferry
#

I can recommend container, especially with the current pace of python development 😬

clever mortar
#

I'd honestly suggest #449717345808547842 if you don't have local software you have to run directly from HA

#

I'm only sticking with core for now because I've got things like Squeezy (for my Squeezebox) that has to be local to HA

last cedar
#

What do you mean with run directly from HA?

clever mortar
#

Do you use any command line integrations?

#

If no, you can run #449717345808547842 - if yes, and you're not running software other than the likes of curl then you can also switch

last cedar
#

I don't think so, I do send some perl scripts but that probably does not count

#

That sounds like a proxy server @dusky plank

last cedar
#

Also, you experts. For someone who cannot javascript, are there any good guides about making a lovelace UI? More a dashboard than a skiss of the house with interactions is what I am after.

last cedar
#

Silly related question to proxmox earlier....

forest edge
#

@last cedar what do you mean?

last cedar
#

Can you passthrough a hardware item to a docker like you can to a VM?

#

About lovelace? I thought that was javascript right?

forest edge
#

it is

last cedar
#

I have never seen JS before but waant a UI

#

Like a dashboard, not an interactive map like I see a lot of people do

#

Where do I start?

#

Any good resources for a total js noob?

forest edge
#

overhauling the whole look would be a nightmare. obviously people have done it but still lol

#

I would start with learning JS

#

I don't even know much JS

#

I tickled the idea of messing with it myself once, but f that, rather just manipulate it using cards and themes lol

clear ferry
#

Can you passthrough a hardware item to a docker like you can to a VM?
@last cedar

Yes

last cedar
#

Ok good

#

Was thinking an arduino with the custom firmware so I can pull status from stuff

#

As I lose gpio ports going from a pi

clear ferry
#

From what stuff?

last cedar
#

Alarm system

#

For motion tracking

clear ferry
#

There are a lot of esp stuff that can do that wirelessly via ip

last cedar
#

Just to turn lights on and off, disarm arm status etc

clear ferry
#

Instead of directly attach

last cedar
#

Nothing fancy

#

There is no integration for the alarm

#

And I don't want double sensors

clear ferry
#

If you can do it via an Arduino you can 99% do it via an esp device with esphome

forest edge
#

just pass it through mqtt

dusky plank

I felt it. I had solar panels and it was the worst decision in my life.

last cedar
#

Because you buy servers for all the money you save?

But I moved now, no solar panels in sight

many with smart home around though, but at least I can turn on my lights

last cedar
#

Is that just because the install was done poorly? Or using lower quality inverters etc?

#

I hsve never heard about rf from solar being an issue, I do remember many years ago that a dodgy microwave oven caused issues for a sound system, but that was maybe like 15 years ago

clear ferry

Anything that makes 2.4ghz will make life a hell

Actually

late gate

yes

if you are use the most common optimizers, tigo, they have a zigbee and ap point on EACH panel

making life a nightmare

last cedar

Any reason they block 2.4ghz?

#

Any papers on this?

late gate
#

they dont block, they flood the band

last cedar
#

I want to read up

#

I am guessing it is wider than just a couple hundred mhz though right? Panels themselves or the inverters?

late gate
#

Its not much, but if you search a bit on solar panels in sweden the army start to demand dismantle of them cause they interfere with coms and air traffic

last cedar
#

Aha

late gate
#

the panels themself problably does not make rf noise

last cedar
#

I will try googling thanks

late gate

its the cables, inverters and optimizers

last cedar

I was wondering if it had something to do with the wavelength of light specifically which meant that the interference was of a specific frequency

Or suchlike

late gate

and just for the record im not saying dangerous rf - im not a 5g / radiation / conspiracy, but just saying I had about 46 panels, and it make the whole house a 2,4ghz dead zone

Time for me to say hello! πŸ™‚ I'm Mike form London, UK. I'm a recent convert to home assistant! Why didn't I do this earlier is my only real big question? Running on an i5 NUC10 in docker.

clever mortar
#

Welcome to the madhouse πŸ‘

safe tiger
#

@clever mortar I was worried the discord channels would be in yaml format.... Getting used to white space being important is a new one on me.

clever mortar
#

YAML's not that bad

#

I mean, it's easier than JSON for humans...

safe tiger
#

It's not and it's used all over the place it seems. Just homeassistant is my first venture into it! And yeah it's not that bad, it's just breaking old habbits

clever mortar
#

Getting used to YAML is no harder than getting used to Americans using the "wrong" words for things like chips or trousers πŸ˜‰

deft pewter
#

I was worried the discord channels would be in yaml
That's actually a genius idea. Let's make it a rule that everything in chat should be in YAML, then maybe people will get it right in HA too.

dull chasm
#

@clever mortar hey your british words are wrong

safe tiger
#

Colour vs color is the worst one with home automation

I don't know, they just wanted me for the intelligence service, but I said no 🀫

dull chasm
#

that ^^^^ says alot ......i pray for yall

clever mortar
#

Government pay always sucks πŸ˜„

clear ferry
#

Private sector πŸ€‘

dull chasm
#

i work goverment .....not so bad .... civilivian is better but less benifits

clever mortar
#

Well, that's a where in the world thing

#

Here, the difference is usually that it's harder to fire folks in the gov, and the private sector pays more. Benefits tend to be much of a such (once you've made it out of the bottom of the stack)

clear ferry
#

Benefits, got that covered for all anyway smart

dull chasm
#

with no extra for army and global things like un ....who ..etc ....norway spends much less than most 1st class ecomony's

dull chasm
#

clever mortar
#

Yeah, but y'all dumped so much of it πŸ˜›

dull chasm

we mean just before we beat the hell out of the brits?

safe tiger
#

@dull chasm I came in peace, not meaning to start a war

dull chasm

@safe tiger lol ....you are good

clever mortar

He just likes trying to rile our resident Norwegian... which is slightly more effective than dropping peas into the ocean to create a tsunami...

Viking's used to raise fear to their piers ....now its socialist and we raise our hands in defeat

#

they did tell thier attackers that there is a 47% tax 🀣

plus anything they bring into the country must have a 5 year warranty

clear ferry

Is five year warranty on all electronics now a bad thing?

#

⛹️ ⛹️ ⛹️

dull chasm
#

there i may be wrong ....never studied the EU .....

deft pewter

EEA, yes. EU, no.

dull chasm
#

wasnt norway under bristish control ....so ^^^^

clever mortar
#

Europe, EU, EEA, all different

dull chasm
#

well isnt it a collarabet effort ?

clear ferry
#

What do you mean, USA, Mexico and Canada are all the same

#

πŸ§™

dull chasm
#

like i said i have not studied it ....so might be speculating

deft pewter
#

You are. And you're way off the mark.

dull chasm
#

so its just a trade thing not a global monetary control thing

clever mortar
#

Anyway, at one point or another so much of the planet was under British control - we did have the empire on which the sun never set (possibly because even gods are afraid of what the Brits will get up to in the dark)

#

Thankfully those days are, mostly, in the past...

dull chasm
#

true ^^^^

dull chasm
#

but it didnt last long in the us

clever mortar
#

I doubt that was the shortest lived one πŸ˜‰

dull chasm
#

that would take way too much reseach but it would be a close second to anything

deft pewter
#

It is kinda funny for Americans to dump on British history when Americans only have a couple hundred years of their own.

dull chasm
#

i am not dumping on bristish history by no means

clear ferry
#

Only 169 years, short lived British colony

dull chasm
#

100+ years as fur colonies ... 🀣

clear ferry
#

🀏

clever mortar
#

I've lived in houses older than that ...

clear ferry
#

Most of the British houses are πŸ‘Ά

#

I think the one I lived in in Ireland was 190 years old

clever mortar
#

My Gran's house was about that kind of age, though records are fuzzy as to exactly how old it was

light trout
#

Cut the wood and count the rings

clear ferry

So she built it after you were born, that is interesting

deft pewter

I think I've seen your gran's house.

deft pewter
#

Only one ring. One year old.

clever mortar

Well, it was about that weatherproof πŸ˜„

dull chasm

clear ferry
#

So she was Aussie @clever mortar ?

#

I've heard about @hushed basalt house

#

More spaces between boards than boards

clever mortar
#

Well... when your house is that old, it's gonna need some repair work ...

#

Having it a listed building complicates that though 😬

dull chasm

so @clever mortar so you are saying that @clear ferry needs plenty of patching

Generally, don't tag people to ask for help - it comes across as bad manners, you’re demanding somebody answers you. It’s different if you’re thanking somebody, obviously. If you do tag somebody keep it polite and respectful. Remember that everybody is a volunteer, and nobody has to help you, and people may block you.

Similarly, please don’t DM (direct message) people asking for help. It also comes across as demanding, and means that others can’t learn from what you do.

Finally, please keep tagging people in replies to a minimum. That too can become annoying very quickly and should be used only when it's necessary (such as if it's been a long time, or there's multiple conversations going on).

upper apex

i didnt tag him lol

velvet horizonBOT
#

Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.

When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:

  1. What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
  2. What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
  3. Is the problem uniform or erratic?
  4. What's the exact error message?
  5. When did it arise?
  6. What exactly don't you "get"?
  7. Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?

Is a running HA on a rpi 4 2gb a lot worse than running HA core in unraid? I feel so limited with HA core

clear ferry
#

@torn stratus anything addons do you can do yourself in five other ways, sure if you have no interest in learning a useful skill, you can run supervised, but supervised installation is the limited install, not core or container

#

@amber bramble well, I'm rolling out next gen amd to customers in beta, so I would be surprised if a new generation is released before q1 or q2 2021

subtle pasture
#

@shy comet Wow, big-brain move on that one...

#

@clear ferry I mean, I totally understand their perspective, though... you install Core, and you do appear to get fewer features. Whole menu options are just missing (anything to do with addons)

#

And if you aren't prepared to deal with replacing that functionality yourself, it is limiting

shy comet
#

thats kinda why the home page directs users to the version that contains the add-on

#

it used to talk about docker and pyenv and that just caused more confusion

clear ferry
#

Sure, but had the same discussion with a friend the other day, people have stopped knowing how to reverse with their car without sensors, people are becoming less self sufficient and generally technically more inept

subtle pasture
#

installed her supercharger herself, and still didn't want to deal with a Core install of HA

green inlet
#

I need a turbo replaced in my daughters car, going to be in NC anytime soon 🀣

clear ferry
#

Actually only supercharged car I have driven is a VW corrado

subtle pasture
#

That is a turbocharger behind the rear bumper

#

A supercharger was significantly easier to install, since most of it mounts on top of the engine rather than intermingling with the exhaust

clear ferry
#

Ooof, give me the engine compartment of a Volvo 245 anyday

subtle pasture
#

@green inlet probably not planning to travel outside of California any time soon, lol

#

@clear ferry Can't blame the designers for building it this way, honestly. The car has a boxer engine mounted as low as possible to keep the center of gravity down

But, yeah, that also results in the bottom side of the engine bay having very little space to work with

Also, being x86 (and intel-everything, including the GPU and NIC), the software support is significantly better than an ARM SBC

subtle pasture
#

Itanium, outta nowhere. lol

#

Seriously though, it'll be nice to buy a pi-style computer (other than the pi itself) and not have to worry about ongoing support...

clear ferry
#

Psssh, just buy something proper to begin with

#

🀣

subtle pasture
#

Way too many ARM SBCs never get mainline support, and therefor get stuck on some ancient hacked/patched linux kernel forever

#

It's an x86 computer... that'd be pretty proper

clear ferry
#

Psssh, 64bit or bust πŸ™…

subtle pasture
#

it's a 64bit Atom...

#

Also, kinda impressive to see an entire x86 PC running off of nothing but USB-C power (or PoE, with a hat)

clear ferry
#

Not all atoms are 64bit, so i wouldn't bet on it just by hearing atom πŸ‘»

#

Also my Chromebook is x86-64 and runs off usbc

subtle pasture
#

This SBC sports a Z8350, so yeah, quad core, 64bit

clear ferry
#

My zbook g3 can run run off usb, and that beast uses a 150w psu

#

Or rather ,it accepts USBC power

subtle pasture
#

Big difference with the Chromebook is it has a battery to smooth out the power delivery. The battery can supply a lot of current

#

This is a bare board with no battery running off of USB-C (or, again, PoE)

clear ferry
#

What's the wattage of the system total?

subtle pasture
#

Not sure, though intel rates the CPU itself as 2w (that includes the CPU, GPU, and chipset)

clear ferry
#

Usbc can be 5/9/18v and different wattages too, up to 40w I think

#

Oh, 100w it seems

subtle pasture
#

Anyway, nice to have an alternative to the Up Board, with a cheaper pricetag and more features

dusky plank
#

still don't know why anyone would run HA on a 100watt device when <10 watt is enough. (excluding instances with many webcams)

#

but hey, thats just my stupid opinion and I can already smell a 🀒

clever mortar
#

Well, just because it can consume a total of 100W doesn't mean it always does

@green inlet "turbo replacement" is a HUGE potential for finding a lot of broken bolts

#

and a pretty big potential for breaking bolts πŸ™‚

subtle pasture
#

GM apparently thought securing the lever assembly that sets the height of the shift lever with a single non-locking nut was a good idea...

#

So one day, driving along, there's a clunk, and the entire lever just vanishes through the center console

Evening people, speak to me about thermostats and boiler control! I need to ditch Tado (issue with the internet bridge since I got it, TADO have agreed to a refund) I'm UK based. Anyone have any experience of opentherm diy solutions? Also sorry for interrupting the sexy flowing hair chat! I feel like this isn't the right channel to ask about my thermostat issues πŸ˜†

dusky plank
#

mhmmm potato salad

#

I feel like this isn't the right channel to ask about my thermostat issues πŸ˜†
@daring oak exactly

daring oak
#

What channel can I disturb without ruining the Sexy Potato OnlyFans chat?

clever mortar
deft pewter
#

Aww, they think atx is a Sexy Potato.

#

Nicest thing I've seen anyone call him.

green inlet
#

I need an OnlyFans page

daring oak
#

I mean I wouldn't go that far

shy comet
#

dude wtf google drive spam now?

daring oak
#

I've got a feeling I can't explain

deft pewter
#

It's okay, atx has that effect on guys.

shy comet
daring oak
#

I'll be sure to write about this experience in my diary

clear ferry
#

Only guys @deft pewter ?

#

What about servers...

deft pewter
#

I dunno. I didn't think you'd ever spoken to a girl.

clear ferry
#

My daughter doesn't count?

Ok, πŸ€”

dusky plank
#

yeah ok I go now 🚢

green inlet
#

Lmao, you aren’t going to hurt my feelings. Trust me.

#

You are about the 15th person who has said that.

last dirge
#

maybe they're onto something

dusky plank

thats how i always spell your name in my confused brian

green inlet

πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

last dirge

your brian is indeed confused

subtle pasture
#

I look away for a second and come back to motherboard sniffing O.o

forest edge
dusky plank
#

NOooO SUppOrt!!!!

forest edge
#

sheesh, make one joke and it really does get awkward in here lol

green inlet
#

Or maybe the land of πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈ, 🌈, and πŸ¦„ @clear ferry

#

@forest edge , one minor change and poof, you were talking to ATX 🀣

forest edge
#

just glad there are no girls who come to this server to witness this sick stuff you people bring up...

dusky plank
#

real good potato salad?

clear ferry
#

Also you fools

#

It's Pedro Brian

The Mexican midget

green inlet

Ok, that made me laugh out loud.

He can't see you if you don't move

I was wondering when you were going to jump in @subtle pasture

subtle pasture
#

Can't put all my attention into Discord right now, since I'm also working

clear ferry
#

This late in the evening

#

Kids these days

subtle pasture
#

Working from home absolutely makes it easier to keep an eye on Discord, though πŸ‘€

green inlet
#

Ha, it like 2 pm in her neck of the woods

clear ferry
#

Psssh

#

It all is unicorn time

#

So 11pm

green inlet
#

Currently 4:54 EST.

subtle pasture

I have to be sober enough to write working MySQL queries, so... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

clear ferry

So not very

subtle pasture

hah

#

You've never seen a ConnectWise Automate back-end database...

clear ferry
#

Thankfully I never will

#

I'm the guy who keeps the stuff no-one heard of running, so stuff works

dusky plank
#

i smell SOAP and DB2

green inlet
#

By the way, I did watch the newest episode of South Park. I think they hit a whole new level of awkward

light trout
clear ferry
#

Not more than me on cam@green inlet

😬 😬 😬

green inlet

It blew the lounge out of the water

light trout
#

I doubt that

subtle pasture

I'm supposed to be our RMM tool dev / automation expert (I work at a managed services provider, so we do IT on contract for other companies), but I've also become de facto full-stack IT for our internal infrastructure.

clear ferry
#

Pedro Brian even said I looked as angry as I sound

green inlet
#

I think you were hamming it up for the camera 🀣

subtle pasture
#

On the up side, that meant I got to play around with our shiny new AMD EPYC server with dual 64 core / 128 thread CPUs before racking it

clear ferry
#

πŸ§™ πŸ§™ πŸ§™

#

Too bad you can't touch my beta AMD chips then

subtle pasture
#

I threw Windows on it to do diagnostics before installing ESXi and moving our virtual machines over to it...
It was weird having more cores than processes

dusky plank
#

unzips pants

clear ferry
#

I installed a 128 core system in 2012

#

It was... Interesting

#

With windows

subtle pasture
#

How many sockets did that take in 2012?

clear ferry
#

8

subtle pasture
#

O_O

#

NUMA node hell, that is...

clear ferry
#

Now I work with 32 socket systems

subtle pasture
#

Even this dual socket server still has 4 NUMA nodes to deal with. If it weren't a virtualization host it'd be a problem...

clear ferry
#

Or theoretically it scales to 64 sockets

dusky plank
#

Now I work with 32 socket systems
@clear ferry with windows? πŸ˜„

clear ferry
#

It supports Windows

#

Only 28 core CPUs though

#

Currently

dusky plank
#

what is this?
core counts for ants?

#

A64FX pleeeasseeee

subtle pasture
#

Core counts large enough to run Crysis with software rendering...

clear ferry
#

Well, yes

#

But it supports 64 GPUs too

forest edge
#

core penis comparisons...

clear ferry
#

My penis has nothing on a core count of 896

#

πŸ™…

forest edge
#

nothing indeed lol

subtle pasture
#

The number of times @forest edge inserts genitalia into the discussion is rather high...

dusky plank
#

what is that power used for anyways? weather calculations? folding at home might be a bit overwhelmed

forest edge
#

the only thing this midday rant in lounge is missing is beer chat @tidal bronze

clear ferry
#

That's what happens when 90 year old men go online

forest edge
#

@subtle pasture maybe some like to insert genitalia into things.. you ever think of that..

clear ferry
#

@dusky plank solitaire?

forest edge
#

awkward~

subtle pasture
#

Those jokes just keep getting more and more forced, lol

forest edge
#

forced

subtle pasture
#

@forest edge Do I need to get out the dominatrix boots and hemp rope?

forest edge
#

no i'm not norwegian

clear ferry
#

🦻

#

Hwat

subtle pasture
#

I'm not even gonna ask what Norway has to do with anything XD

forest edge
#

everything

forest edge
#

does crying in norwegian resemble the same sound old telephone modems made?

clear ferry
#

Not far off

green inlet
#

I think we learned one thing today. @subtle pasture can hold her own

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

don't make it awkward @green inlet

#

||jk||

#

@tidal bronze the fries are actually throwing me off alittle lol

tidal bronze
#

Sweet potato fries, anyway that's my wife's thing.

forest edge
#

so she eats normal editable food while you eat the gross stuff?

dusky plank
#

isn't that how marriage works?

tidal bronze
#

Exactly πŸ’―

subtle pasture
#

I wouldn't call lobster gross, but it is difficult to eat drenched in sauce and still fully inside the shell...

forest edge
#

this is why quad is afk so much during the day, not cause he's working or installing new speakers.. having his stomach pumped

subtle pasture
#

Also, those shrimps don't look de-veined

tidal bronze
#

@subtle pasture guess you've not been to a boiling crab. πŸ˜†

subtle pasture
#

Nope πŸ‘€

forest edge
#

see @tidal bronze not all cali's are gross..

tidal bronze
#

Too kind buddy, too kind

forest edge
#

had us all thinking this was normal there.. pssh

tidal bronze
#

Oh wow you just pulled a Ed Bassmaster on me πŸ™„

forest edge
#

shy comet
#

tidal bronze
#

Yep its cajun + garlic pepper butter = The Whole Shebang

shy comet
#

tidal bronze
#

shy comet
#

forest edge
#

tidal bronze
#

Yep Wilshire BLVd

forest edge
#

dull chasm
tidal bronze
#

Here he comes.

forest edge
#

crawdads

shy comet
#

obviously that picture was pre-covid πŸ˜›

forest edge
#

I tried crawdads once, about made me vomit

shy comet
#

we got a good camping spot out in santa barbara where you can go crawdad hunting in a small stream

dull chasm
tidal bronze
#

@dull chasm is it de-veined? @subtle pasture says it MUST be

dull chasm
#

almost never

shy comet
#

πŸ˜‚

tidal bronze
#

🀣

subtle pasture
#

I didn't say it must be. You can eat shrimp shit if you like...

#

You do you, man

forest edge
#

lol

#

quad eats anything

#

I mean anything

#

his only blockade is uncooked, but then @clear ferry rushes in to pick up that mantle

dull chasm
#

usually its deviened for the city folks at fancy resturants ....but not any where else usually

subtle pasture
#

I mean, I do it when I cook shrimp at home, as well

dull chasm
#

LOL .....well we eat it out of number buckets or boats in backyard ....hardly ever cook inside

tidal bronze
#

Lol

forest edge
#

🀒

#

I need to consider walking away now

dusky plank
#

that's what separates the people who survive covid

tidal bronze
#

I gotta try that de-veined shrimp one of these days.

shy comet
#

LOL

subtle pasture
#

Seafood starting to sound good right about now... though that might be because we cooked two 4lb tritip roasts back-to-back

forest edge
#

why not just eat it while it's still alive?

shy comet
#

@tidal bronze just get shrimp at whole foods they do a good job on it

subtle pasture
#

Little bit done with red meat at the moment, need some variety @_@

dull chasm
#

well the damn spices we use will just about kill anything .....its just a culture thing i guess ...like she said i guess nothing wrong eiither way

shy comet
#

damn some tritip sounds bomb too lol

tidal bronze
#

@shy comet I don't care for that stuff man unless I am at a Michelin star.

subtle pasture
#

@shy comet I made fresh homemade chimichurri sauce to go with it πŸ˜„

dusky plank
#

everybody talking lobsters but have you guys ever had good potato salad?

forest edge
#

lol

shy comet
#

@tidal bronze lol its about the only place i go to get shrimp to put in the sous vide

forest edge
#

atleast this isn't about calamari

dull chasm
subtle pasture
#

Mmm, potato salad... with red potatoes and blue cheese 🀀

dull chasm
#

hog roast

tidal bronze
#

@forest edge do you see the fried calamari?

forest edge
#

I activily looked away from it

dull chasm
#

smelled bad too

subtle pasture
#

y'all are making me hungry >_>

shy comet
#

@forest edge calamari is for the deep fryer lol

tidal bronze
#

@dull chasm you getting sniffy on me now ?

subtle pasture
#

Fried calamari can be amazing, but it's very easy to over-cook it

dull chasm
#

causes gas too @forest edge

shy comet
#

you never notice how easy it is to over-cook it until you try it for yourself lol

#

but when done right its like butter

clear ferry
#

Just do smalahove @forest edge

forest edge
#

squid is absolutely gross

forest edge
#

@clear ferry you have issues

green inlet
#

And I am over here eating crockpot lemon chicken on riced cauliflower. #ICantEatLobsterIHaveKids
