I was going to get a bigger freezer a few months ago but ended up upgrading my fridge instead and using the old one as a freezer
not sure about other companies but apparently thier whole line fridge line was falling behind
In the UK I'd buy Bosch, Neff, or Siemens
why is Bosch so big there
because they're great
Bosch use to be ok, then it was crap. maybe it's good again? dunno
Reviews from Which rate their fridges highly
there's a giant difference between what the US gets with Bosch on it and what the rest of the world gets with Bosch on it
problem is no matter the brand name, it's always some other company who actually owns it lol
and that sucks @last dirge
Using a USB instead of a SSD..
had the same idea back in the days,
killed an nice Kingston 128Gb stick in like 6 monts.
btw, nice read of the ssd TRIM feature
https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2020/enabling-trim-on-external-ssd-on-raspberry-pi
I use my cheapo wd cloud 1bay nas, supervised install completely mounted via nfs.
I'm saving up to buy a NAS. ๐
only thing that doesn't work is the supervised audio container because it mounts a socket and expects that socket to be mounted as root.
so I made my own audio container which just doesn't do that
those things are retarded over priced for what they actually are
Yeah. I've been told I can build one for cheap but part of me wants the QA and warranty that comes with something I buy.
the 1bay 4Tb I have is 150โฌ
fortunately its the old generation, I believe the new ones also have cloud stuff in them
cloud, gross
๐คข ๐คฎ โ๏ธ ๐ฉ
I upgraded the drives in my NAS to 12TB
@valid halo unraid is really great both for being a NAS and also an amazing docker host. I run the HA docker image there
It basically lets you run any server you want with just a few clicks
Hmmm I see. I was looking into Synology
Synology is good but expensive, very different way of doing things
Oh I see Unraid is software. Hmmm. Might be worth looking into.
Right, you'd (generally) build your own machine, add your own drives, etc, but it gives you greater flexibility than any of the commercial NAS kits will provide
I've moved all of my home automation stuff to my unraid machine, all in different little docker containers off of the marketplace, plugged in a deconz stick and can basically throw away my hue hub and my smartthings hub now ๐ Also everything happens a lot faster with local execution and etc
Unraid is super..
Btw, anyone here that is on the current beta? If yes, is the more-info-card by thomas loven working for you? And the light-entity card by ljzmera?
@tame sand you can run HA OS as a VM in Unraid or there's a standalone HA container app that can be used from Unraids app store
@tame sand Unraid is the software (slackware) used on my server. I run HA in docker (which runs natively on unraid). I used to use vmware and hyper-v for this, however since Unraid has docker built-in, I only need docker for everything
the container built by balloob works great
That wa sthe question
though I will mention that I run Core (so no supervisor)
I am running homeassistant in docker aswell
Together with influx
May I ask what specs you have?
Are you using a nuc?
no,
Nvm the motherboard is gigabyte
basically this is my previous desktop pc ๐
though it is kinda power hungry (it uses 120watt constantly)
And all these apps are running without any hiccups? Impressive ๐ค
yes
average processor usage is around 8%
and as you can see in the screenshot, I've only used around 8GB or RAM in total
though it is kinda power hungry (it uses 120watt constantly)
@dreamy rock that's why I was asking actually... I am thinking about switching to a different platform, ideally low power... So there is the nuc but it's expensive or I would need to undervolt the cpu....
@tame sand you're probably better off getting a NUC if you are looking for power efficiency
I prefer performance over power efficiency (but I will upgrade to a ryzen 7 next year)
though I will mention that Unraid is not free
it costs 59 for the basic license (max 6 disks)
Valid point... But I don't have nearly as many containers running so I should be fine with a "older" nuc...
if you need more disks you will have to pay extra (which wont be a problem on a nuc, since you don' thave space for new disks anyways)
I think a nuc can easily run all the containers I run
my machine is pretty old (haswell i5, 2013 I believe)
before that I used an i7 980x (hexacore), which was 2011 (the first generation i7) ๐
i feel like google always has their hardware announcements 2 weeks after apple
We have a 4 disk synology at home... So I wanted to "merge" it with my pi4... And unraid seems like a good investment tbh... It is actively developed and has a quite big community
you could take a look at proxmox if you are looking for something that is free
which is used by many of the HA devs themselves
i feel like google always has their hardware announcements 2 weeks after apple
At least when the new iPhones are announced, you only have a couple of weeks to wait for the good stuff ๐
though in my experience Unraid was definitely the easiest to maintain and install of all the (type1) hypervisors I have tested (I've tested Hyper-V, ESXI, Proxmox and Unraid)
im looking forward to the new android tv dongle....hopefully it rivals the amazon fire stick
What is the vsc server you are running? Is it for remote disk access via vsc?
not sure I understand the last question ๐
In your Screenshot there is a CodeServer instance running with the logo from vsc
ah yes, it is visual code
it runs in a container and can be accessed through the browser
like the vscode addon when running the supervisor
it's basically the same thing ๐
What are the benefits from this compared to a locally installed vsc instance?
I never heard of this before and I am using vsc for quite some while now ๐
I never really use the container, I only use it when I don't have another choice (and for that it is great)
just find a computer/phone/tablet go to your domain (ex. https://vscode.yourdomain.com) and edit whatever is needed
True
to my knowledge it has almost all the same functionality
Ok nice. Thanks a lot
I have also added it to the sidepanel in HA so that I have quick access to it (just like you would when running the addon with the supervisor)
You know VSCode has dark mode @dreamy rock right?
yes
Was that regarding ludeus or me? ๐
both?
yes
both ๐
but actually this is the first time I see it with the light mode (probably the container has been updated haha)
@light trout
why does light mode exist
"this is cool but i want it to hurt to look at" - no one ever
well, a good friend of mine prefers the light mode
must have invincible eyeballs
Your friend is a monster.
to be fair, in a lot of applications the dark mode always looks a bit 'off'
i would almost say you shouldnt be friends with that person anymore. something to think about
I work a lot in the night time, so for me light mode is a no go haha
@deft pewter haha, I think quite a few here uses his theme (dwainstheme)
Which is funny cause his theme is more darkish if I am correct
I think the default changed in the latest addon update because I've had it in dark mode forever and had to change it back
woah. i had no idea about nvidia
Apple: we're going to use Arm processors
NVIDIA: gotcha bitch
i hate how i have to choose a side between amd intel and nvidia
there's that pesky RISC V though
the NV one has been brewing for a while
oracle seems kinda out of left field
hope tiktok users like licensing fees
yeah never thought of oracle of having anything to do with social media at all
makes sense theyd want to get into it i guess
tik tok will be just a fad in the long run anyway. it doesnt do anything that other platforms don't. and now with all this controversy itll become less interesting
could be wrong
oracle will use it for marketing for their cloud bs, the deal is about the data location of tiktok's us arm anyway
@tidal bronze lol there are people on the nextdoor app in my area posting that we should come together and help save California cause of all the fires. I replied with Californians can help themselves lmao
Damn, this thing is silent!
or... a very loud pin drop.
@low harness they are.
@forest edge heartless ๐ซ
@tidal bronze don't worry biden wants to help after he wins lol
@low harness whats the first print?
The first I did was a whistle. The one in the video is one of those gear bearing things.
But it's my second printer.
Cheapest possible delta printer available five years ago.
It recently completed printing itself.
And while waiting for the new one to be delivered, I serviced it up so it's actually quite decent now.
Silent steppers, genuine hotend, a decent bed probe.
Hereโs an ongoing print project.
oh those look cool!
upgrading a printer is fun lol....i went from a monoprice mini to a ender 3...night and day difference lol
the silent steppers make a huge difference...then of course teh fans lol
Yeah. That's what triggered the reprinting of the first one actually. I got some trinamic drivers and suddenly it was OK to keep it running for more than an hour or two to print new parts.
haha yup or sometimes you just want to reprint something after an upgrade to see what changed lol
@shy comet smoke is better but temp is up. Happy days
yea you can almost see the sun today lol
California Dreaming performed by the Mamas and the Papas

All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)

not so much lately?
Always dreamin, if not who else will ?
better to smell those california dreams with
yea i bet them fiber and taco farts are to die
Can't believe you guys are in love with cali this much. Definitely deserves some asada tacos and jarritos
wth is that
when I was young it all about blonde beach babes, then it was all about falling into the ocean, then it was all about renewable energy, then back to falling into the ocean and catching fire
So the babes didn't work out for you
never got old enough to make it there before the whole "falling into the ocean" became a thing lol
Fear not my friend got plenty of tacos
And while you are having tacos can visually enjoy the concept of babes
you know I don't even know what food cali is even known for? I guess the kale you keep talking about? but before that i can't recall anything
NY has hot dogs, chicago pizza etc etc
midwest bbq
Me confusion
The word you're looking for is Fusion@forest edge the best food on the planet
I think it's about time you try a Korean Taco
maybe pot just filled the food catagory as well lol
mmm kogi truck
lol korean taco
You have no idea what you're missing
a night on the toliet?
Coming from the barn to Korean taco you might have a few nights like that but after that it's Happy Days
lol like mexico water, if it dosen't kill you, you eventually find it somewhat ingestible
yeah that's like here, they say "tap water meets WHO requirements for drinking water"
me looking at my 55 gallons of bottled water "yeah OK, YOU drink it then I know WHO wont"
Does anyone have any advice on a smart powerstrip I can control with home assistant? I've grabbed a couple off amazon for tuya convert but they're all on firmware that can't be taken over
#hardware-archived would be your best bet
Tuya doesn't like their devices being converted,
Goes to show how much the datasharing is subsidising the product cost
(โฏยฐโกยฐ๏ผโฏ๏ธต โปโโป
Yeah I kind of roll my eyes when I see people talking about Tuya convert. As it feels like these days you have to know the proper product numbers for the devices that can still be converted. Then again I haven't looked into it for a while
I just sort of sit on the periphery looking in these days.
Waiting on issue #483
@ocean night if its a power strip you can probably open it up and flash it
@fallen patio any good links for tutorials on how to do that?
@valid halo I'm all ears on smart power strips that aren't tuya. Feels very hard to find
Wrong tree i'm afraid. I haven't used Home Assistant in months.
I just come here for the atmosphere and free beer
In general, crack it open, find the UART, reset, and boot pins, hook them up to esphome and hit upload
But yeah #hardware-archived or https://discord.gg/FkemqJ
@valid halo what do you use instead of hass?
Nothing. I don't really do Home automation anymore. I burnt out on it
Ooooh, my air quality improved to "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups"
Got a few E12 lohas bulbs recently, can't convert anymore. Bummer
@dull chasm amazon music HD is good or better than Tidal MA. Bitrate is the highest I've seen. So sad Spotify is not offering anything above 320
I haven't done automations in ages
Sometimes I can go near a week without having time to even use my personal computer
Let alone design, implement, test automations
Its insane ๐
I liked the card scanner things ๐
So McDonalds is suing Hungry Jacks for making the Big Jack burger
Two beef patties with special sauce and pickles in a sesame seed bun
Sound familiar
Didn't they legally lose that trademark already?
I don't know,
This is all recent though
This month
Cadbury still tries on their colour purple trademark
IIRC it went something like McDonalds sued some small Scottish restaurant for trademark infringement, and the court realized that the trademark was for Burgers and Restaurants - so it was invalidated due to not being used. And suddenly Burger King starts selling burgers called "Like a Big Mac, But Actually Big".
hi is it possible to create two components and trigger event from one component and the other component can listen to it
#automations-archived is where you need to be
They have the Big Mac, we have the Big Mick. They have the golden arches, we have the golden arcs.
I'm really excited to announce the release of the Analog Terminal Bell. Never miss a terminal bell notification again with the Analog Terminal Bell. Go to https://t.co/ZLxQPUgzMh today to get yours! https://t.co/T6Rt8WYa5O

The best reason for getting a Big Mac from Supermacs is their burger sauce. Annoying, the handiest Supermacs for me is in Heuston Station in Dublin which for some reason just uses normal Tomato Ketchup ๐ฆ
Then again, I haven't been on a train since the before time...
Luas > train
Luas doesn't go to Kildare!
@clear ferry he's back!
Make it go to the top of Wicklow mountains
What's the release schedule for Home Assistant? I thought it was every 3 weeks, and I notice we're up to 10 beta versions for 0.115.0! Looking forward for the next version to drop. I'm not complaining that it's not out yet - just genuinely interested to know what the release schedule is ๐
See the pinned messages
Oh, didn't think about it as HA support - no worries, will post elsewhere!
Ah, gotcha! Sorry, my bad - new to Discord...
no worries
The nfc tag system is fire ๐ฅ
What did i miss, is this the default theme, cards with round corners? https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/19761269/91996394-8e625200-ed56-11ea-89e2-0f38f37c77dc.png How to get that?
#frontend-archived would know ๐
Not sure if HA is the tool for this but looking for examples(HA or other platform) where I can record video and still images along with sensor data and accumulated sensor data for publication and personal use. Any examples, tools, suggestions are welcome. TIA
isn't it past your bedtime @clear ferry ?
Need everyone to cross their fingers that my solar charging sensor voltage goes up instead of down
@velvet horizon > @valid halo I'm all ears on smart power strips that aren't tuya. Feels very hard to find
@ocean night you could try Meross. Integration into hass through custom component
I don't get why people keep tagging me. I meme about Tuya one time and suddenly I'm the power strip guy ๐คฃ
๐
@valid halo can we get an opinion on the state of smart power strips?
@abstract abyss I'm having difficulty finding tuya strips to convert
Well in my professional opinion. Smart power strips are pretty neat. Until I think about accidentally stepping on the power switch and turning off everything anyways. Did that a few times.
ugh people i know are popping up left and right testing positive for covid
my days may be numbered, i will miss you all.. well most of you..
ugh people i know are popping up left and right testing positive for covid
@forest edge lock all your doors and windows
And can we get your thoughts on the current president? Btw this is going into a medium hit piece
@forest edge Here you go. Twice a day and you should all good.
pretty sure that would just confuse me because it would cause me to have the same symptoms as covid
lost taste and smell and explosive diarrhea!? is it covid or quad's food suggestion!?
and of course we would get some massive break out of covid right before Halloween after I spent a long time trying to put together a light automation for it
For those interested the apple event is starting
I am interested to see how expensive apple can make a cellphone.
I'm sure they'll hit $2K/ยฃ2K/โฌ2K soon enough
Well they are $2899NZD so seeing it go over 3k will be insane. I paid $2920 for my 85" 4k samsung tv soo kinda stupid that the choice is a tv(that size) or a phone.
If Apple made TVs that'd have cost you $10K instead ๐
Depends. Do you want a stand for it too?
Apple Cinema display... 27" was like 5k at release lol
@tidal bronze you really need to stop taking your drones places and scaring people. https://www.ufosightingsdaily.com/2020/09/thousands-witness-ufo-over-new-jersey.html?fbclid=IwAR3soNE9HSftascgrPSecCcMHES54_VxAj4ta8YnXASch4Lnz3Z-xTY60j8&m=1
idea if I can set ssh -N in .ssh/config ?
man ssh leaves me in the lurch
i don't think i've seen -N before
What does the man page say?
nice for forwarding ports
-N Do not execute a remote command.
I set up the sshd that way that you only get an echo when you try to connect - so the -N is mandatory
But I cant find the config option
man ssh_config
same story ๐
RemoteCommand is the neares what would came around, but it already tryes to allocate a tty
๐คฆโโ๏ธ
RequestTTY
could work
nah.. deam
you pulling an all nighter?

wonder what version of the apple watch will be able to detect if you have an std
They probably already do that, they just don't tell you about it
lol
sell the data of infected for profit without telling the customers... classic

Oh hey! Haven't seen you in a while. What's up?
His blood pressure
Anyone here who speaks German, btw?
I have a client visiting tomorrow, and I'd need to know if the first E in Merle is pronounced as in Erde or as in Ehre.
is austrian
Gruss. Is Merle a common name in Austria?
Or do you know how it's pronounced at least?
never heard of it as a name, thought it was some kind of beverage
is it some kind of short version for Marlene
I don't think so. It's her name in Outlook...
There are โhow to pronounceโ videos on YouTube for lots of names
My tactic would be to mispronounce it enough that they know you need correcting. Just call her 'Jenny', it's close enough.
Audio and video pronunciation of Merle brought to you by Pronounce Names (http://www.PronounceNames.com), a website dedicated to helping people pronounce names correctly. For more information about this name, such as gender, origin, etc., go to http://www.PronounceNames.com/Merle

yep, now I have just got to set the fritzbox up as a dect gateway
Oh hey! Haven't seen you in a while. What's up?
@low harness he only talks in emoji-speak now if you hadn't noticed lol

sadly prolly what alot if folks need tio hear
I'm not sure what the best channel for asking this is, so I'll post it here. I've noticed that when setting up duckdns + let's encript, I can access HA using the duckdns domain and the certificate is valid, but within my local network the certificate seems invalid. Is there a way if creating a certificate that is valid both for duckdns and for my local network? Alternatively, can I have two certificates and use one or the other depending on how HA is being accessed?
my 3d printer arrived defective to where I can't even assemble it ๐ฆ lol
@night zodiac what did you order?
Ender 5 Pro
damn and it came that messed up?
Split DNS and/or proxy @lilac ether, #general-archived would be the place to be
ender 3 pro here
I couldn't get past the first step because it isn't threaded enough to where I can seat the bolts
@light trout thanks. Do you know where can I read more about it?
https://share.busheezy.dev/5PJzCY.jpg Mine was made on a Friday
what the hell
this is me hand tightening my bolts in, lol
@flat fossil shoe hooks like on the wall?
yeah
my wife woudlnt go for that print ๐
my cats don't mind
@night zodiac off memory some of the fittings were SUPER tight and required more force tahn usual
I would try google if you have not allready @lilac ether
yeah, this is just not threaded enough sadly
i found watching an instalation video while doing it helpful
yeah, I watched it a few times before it arrived
damn how much did it catch in?
the support pole is wobbly because I can't seat it enough because the threads end
on 2/4
could get a threadsetter and some different (much wider) bolts?
the two on the left
can you trim it with dremel or something?
it just needs holes tapped deeper
but they will just send me new shit since I bought it brand new
oh theyre just the wrong bolts then?
no, lol
it isn't tapped enough
I can't turn the bolt any more without it being obvious that I am past the threads
oh yea u need new rails then
yea man
@lilac ether the certificate is tied to the domain name. You need to access your instance using the same domain name internally and externally. It is possible to have two certificates for two domains leading to the same endpoint, but I don't know how that's done with duckdns/letsencrypt and you still can't tie it to an IP, only a domain name.
thas a burn
@low harness merle in the usa is pronounced murl. just go with that lol
is it your first printer?
yeah, I just wanted to print some 8266 enclosures and such
@zinc ingot Thanks for the idea. I now have my Washing machine setup on a smart outlet and it tells me when its finished after being below 8W for 4 min ๐
@low harness the main problem is that my router is stupid and I can't access the my duckdns address from my local network. It somehow takes me to the router's interface
i love the logic we have for washer/dryers
perhaps I can edit /etc/hosts as a escape hatch
Yeah, that's a common problem. You may be able to find a setting for "DNS NAT mirroring" or "hairpinning" which fixes that.
In the router that is
all of the threads for the poles that aren't threaded deep enough are very crooked as well so it seems like they just weren't seated well enough in the jig they use
@shy comet Do you do the same?
I want to get one for the dryer but I don't know if my outlet is strong enough
only 120V
ive been using the aeotec smart switches for those....my dishwasher im using a zigbee IRIS outlet
I'm about to smash all of my wemo outlets with a large hammer
i use centralize zigbee for all 3
Yea I am using the zigbee iris 3210
centralite*
yea thats the one i have on my dishwasher
@low harness thanks, I never heard of those terms, I'll see what I can find for my huawei ISP router
im impressed it can go over 1000w
haha might as well pull out box of shit to install ๐
I'm anxiously waiting for China to open
@lilac ether https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hairpinning
my wife is like "what is all this in the box" and im like "things that were on sale and i havnet thought of a use for" ๐
I have a box of goodies to bring over to my parents this weekend
haha yea I have one of those. She always knows I am going to be tinkering for a while if I get it out
2 APs, a router, and a bunch of sensors for the grow room
i love all the grow room posts people are doing lol
with Aeotec switch do you have that does 220v?
the last time I went there we discovered their router wasn't being used because their modem combo wasn't in bridge mode
oh sorry my appliances are 110v ๐ฆ
then I was trying to work on 8266 stuffs and the wifi was dropping so now EdgeRouter and Unifi setup incoming
one other idea I have seen for a dryer is to use a vibration sensor to tell when its done
ah gotcha
I haven't looked at any grow room inspiration. the last time I was there I soldered a ton of sensors together for ducting monitoring
Is there any way to get homeassistant to restart in a reasonable amount of time? Seems like every time you restart it, it takes half an hour or so to come back up.
1 intake and 5 out sensors for ducting temps/pressure https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/450578435140616202/752382184127594526/IMG_20200906_202138251.jpg @shy comet
@low harness I might have found something interesting. Adding nginx in front of home assistant to serve the cerficate from there instead from the simple http server build in HA: https://help.konnected.io/support/solutions/articles/32000023964-set-up-hass-io-with-secure-remote-access-using-duckdns-and-nginx-proxy
I have a box of stuff like co2, ph, TDS, flood sensors
for next time
I was going to print some enclosures but poor printer arrived fucky
That's the setup I'm using, sort of. But this is moving outside of the scope of this channel, I believe.
... well, it began there to be fair, but I assumed it would be a short thing....
@patent bloom that is not normal. but this isn't a support channel. i'd ask in the channel for your install method. also make sure you have updated to the current release
Ok...

like I do
@tidal bronze i canceled all streaming but yes i found better bitrates on amazon
too poor right now for anything extra
lmao
The wife requires one now as well
don't do it yet michael! wait for the version that checks for std's
lol i dont ever get beyond 25 percent debit ratio .....so paying off one loan so i can buy tractor
oh the ratio is fine its just spending $920
a tractor is a good way to spend money
but she would love it
I got a tractor for sell, you come get it lol
well i figure all bills not like bank they only figure notes
plus siri to HA would work faster
2032r?
no we ban new stuff here
new tractors = hell
@forest edge Model H ? ๐คฃ
belt drive pto?
no no ....pto is leather belt to implement
it's the year of tractor you hear horror stories about when someone falls off and it just drives through the house and never stops

it actually does have a glow plug lol
for winter starts
but not the traditional kind like people think, it heats the air
Wowza, certified BArN LiFE

@forest edge is this how you do it
actually you might sooner than that if the sea level keeps rising
heh yea thats slightly older than mine
blade will cut you and timber without stopping
oh deeres over grown lawn mowers
or actually I guess they would call it a medium since they made lawnmower size "tractors" before that
older deers are one of the top 3 best tractors ever made
international was another popular one
i take this one
yea I know, you want the "new" shit
frankly the newer stuff is trash imo, as far as longevity goes
that dude in that picture has changed tractors like 3 times in 5 years lol
yea but what 7 year warranty ....i prolly be dead by then
you thinking tractor time with tim
yea i think thats it
there was two youtube ones i watched
one was him and his wife and the other had his own huge shop
he loves the 1025r
if you have a deere dealer nearby they will send techs out vs havving to trailer it in every time
just wait @forest edge ...... i will have @tidal bronze with a burbon whiskey riding tractor naked at 400 am ....
for 30k ....they better
Everything sounds good except the bourbon๐
naked? my grandfather is actually well known around here for being naked on the front porch every morning before going out on the tractor lol
no wussy drinks on tractpr
yea but most of its work with be mowing 5 acres and wife will prolly do ...so worth it for her
@dull chasm you better post a picture once you get it riding the tractor
then why do you need the 2k series?
Especially in your short shorts
1000 ft drive and managing pens in rear of property
prolly a mix ....cows chickens and goats ...hell no stinking ass hogs
yea but they freakin make mud holes and stink
i was raised on a farm ...so no sweat there .....just when you stand in line at store and realize thats you ass thank stinks with cowshit on your boots
well depending where you live, people should be use to it
yea they still look at ya
offer them some to take home lol
i will save some for @tidal bronze and try to keep the wierdo's out of the shurnes
don't think quad could handle farm life
sure
you'd turn around and see him out in the field bent over next to a cow eating the grass alongside it
You can read me like a book. ๐
lol
there's nothing quite as stink as the coops we used to raise chickens in
there were about 30,000 per coop
LOL
we had cows, sheep, pigs and goats also
but we were a "chicken" farm
I just got outta the farm store doing a rip and replace on the IT gear
still have a few days to go
don't think quad could handle farm life
@forest edge I might actually give it a try in a few years.
so ive made Android bootanimations for my in-wall displays. These animations contain the Home Assistant logo.. they are only for my personal use, so there shouldnt be any issue with that, right?
@tidal bronze oh? like animal or cranberry?
@jovial marten as long as you're not selling it I don't think anyone is going to care
Awesome idea though
Is there a Grocy discord?
I don't think they like support questions about the applications themselves
@boreal perch closest thing to it would probably be the linuxserver.io discord
@trail crag Thanks, however it says. Message failed to load
@hushed basalt ah I don't visit it much. looks like there's an r/grocy subreddit too @boreal perch
Not sure what's wrong with the invite. working for me
ugh. who thought it would be a good idea to have the 17Track component name every single package as "seventeentrack Package: <actual package name>" ?
I have the worst luck with asking questions and having someone see it who knows the answer before it scrolls off into oblivion
Such is life
Maybe I should git gud
Or post to the forum. Lots of folks only hang out there
Thought about that. Might give it a shot.
Things are generally visible for longer there
And thereโs years of history there where itโs highly likely that somebody else has already asked and answered whatever you need
Yeah every time I search Google takes me to the forum
Should be required reading before even coming here with a question, in my humble opinion
Something if a chicken and egg thing sometimes. If I knew the right phrases to search for i would have found the answer
Then you have to get good at that
But thatโs just knowing how to Google things
my wife is the worst at using Google
And, more to the point, expending the effort to try to find the answer first
We finally have clean air here again.. So nice
the rockies made a nice shield, looks like it might miss me in NC
but we got a tropical storm slated to come through so... ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Fire?

@clever mortar where should i ask for the list of icons?
๐
Ah, i found this https://mdi.bessarabov.com/
Here's the official one https://materialdesignicons.com/, but yours seems snappier.
@low harness thank youv ery much
Reminds me, I should update the pinned link in #frontend-archived...
Is there a way to show the attibute of some entity on the dashboard?
one thing HA has helped me realise, is how nasty my power is
it peaked at 257.6V today
thats stupidly high.
allowed voltage range of 216.2 volts to 253.0 volts
๐ค ๐ฑ
yikes
I'm normally around 122
if i was at 122, I'd be in darkness
I just discovered the place I put a UPS yesterday is only getting 101
so this is what alerted me..
my old UPS died, so i replaced it with a new one
but ive noticed that sometimes the one is 'clicks'
and i thought 'i wonder if its high voltage, and its disconnecting itself;
AVR? SmartUPS?
sure enough, that's what is happening
EATON
im getting the voltage readings from my inverters
nah, dumb inverter
backup battery only
which is kinda redundant now
since i have a 10.3kWh battery on the house
need some regulators sounds like
lovely
but during the peak of the day, the voltage goes just outside of spec
we get brownouts often too, hence why everything is on a smart UPS
thats the thing i could hear clicking
the old one didnt do it, so it must have had a wider acceptable voltage range
our 'standards' only changed in 2018
"Since 2000, the nominal voltage in most areas of Australia has been 230 V,[3][4][5] except for Western Australia and Queensland which both remain at 240 V,[6] though Queensland is transitioning to 230 V. "
im in Queensland too.
The new standard stipulates a nominal 230 V, and the allowable voltage to the customer's point of supply is, as mentioned, +10% to โ6%. However, the preferred operating range is +6% to โ2%. (244 V to 225 V)
apparently my State (Queensland) started to transition to 230V in 2017, with hopes of being completed by July 2020.
well, that didnt happen, clearly.
well clearly they got some other document LOL
this is making me thankful for UK mains
257.6 is certinly very high. We're at 230 officially and I've never in my life seen more that 242
I normally see around 245V-250V here (UK mains)
That is damn high
I have never seen higher than 239
But that will only be in winter, when they are upping the voltage to compensate for -35 and it suddenly gets hot
My current real-time voltage
And phase load
I'm about to return my ender 5 if creality doesn't help me soon
@lilac ether where are you located?
@jovial marten Spain
so the issue is, most of the country is on 230V nominal now
except Queensland where I live
we are still on 240V nominal
so 240V -10/+6%
well, seems that now it's within legal range then
wait no, limit should be 254
yup, your provider must do something about it
what's way too high
yup
i will be calling them in the morning
so the story goes, we used to get brownouts in this area.. so they bumped the voltage up a bit
but its too high
@jovial marten you aussie?
yep
Sorry just missed scrollback ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
all good
Yeah 257v is high, how long was that sustained for?
hours it seems
I got united to tap down my Transformer on my street (Victoria)
ooof
That's bad.
But reflects PV voltage rise a lot of Aus is dealing with day to day
yeah, but its out of spec
so if stuff blows up, it would be on them i guess
ive just had a new meter installed too, and that shows instant voltage, current, wattage, plus live export amount etc
All of Norway got new meters that do that last year
UK is still working on that...
wishie what kit are you using?
a 'lifetime' counter...
I have Eastron SDM230 and Fronius Smartmeter
well, this is a messy story
Installed per circuit meters on each sub circuit last week
so on my side, I have 2 x GoodWe GW5048-EM Hybrid Inverters
26 x 235W solar panels on one, 20 x 330W solar panels on the other
GoodWe is alright of the cheape brands
and a 10.3kWh LiFePO4 battery
Nice must have decent sized house for all those panels
so each inverter has its own 'smart meter' on it.. but they are stupid
so the new 'smart meter' that got put on the house is an EDMI Atlast Mk7C
yeah, heat pump hot water
Quantum 340L
Yeah I never liked installing Goodwe Inverters tbh, I had issues with Modbus output datasheets never matched
these ones seem ok
Nice , I suppose given you have a battery you don't bother running that on a timer
the problem i am having is... i have 2 inverters, but both have a clamp meter on them..
but only 1 inverter has a battery
so what happens is.. at night, it might show that ill pulling 600W from the grid.. fine.. but then the Sun comes out, and the other inverter wakes up, and it ALSO goes "you're pulling 600W"
so the stupid portal goes "hey, you're using 1200W!"
that SEMS Portal thing is dumb
since I have 2 inverters but 1 battery, if my battery is at (for example) 60% charged, the portal goes "SOC 30%"
because it goes "battery 1 is at 60%, battery 2 doesnt exist.. so 0%"...
then averages it.
dumb.
yeah, so if I was you I would grab the RS485 output from the goodwe inverter and use an ESP8266 running this: https://github.com/jantenhove/GoodWeLogger chuck that into HASS and have your own metrics using influxdb/grafana
ooohhhh
looks
"Pay attention, RS485 will only work if you disconnect the WiFi module and restart the inverter. They cannot work simultaneously."
well, that sucks.
There are other options
when i had 1 inverter, the SEMS Portal data was great, and accurate
it just doesnt seem to handle multiple inverters well
especially if 1 of them doesnt have a battery and the other does
yeah fair. I never used it as I never liked the notion of a device in my LAN accessing Chinese or any remote servers.
established/related traffic is allowed (ie, if i call out to the inverter, it can repsond)
nothing local at the moment
i used to on my old ABB inverter
that would be better too
right now, if there is a blackout, i have the google minis say "I have detected a blackout. The battery is at 60%. Please turn off any high powered devices"
but, it can take 1-2 minutes for the inverter to send to the portal, then HA check the value
neat, I spent a lot of money on Fronius inverters, but a Goodwe Inverter is half price so next time I wire up a site I would prefer to use it
Support just wasn't there for clients though :/
the GW5048-EM is a good unit
but its a hybrid unit made for batteries
you dont need a battery of course
i didnt buy from 'yessolar' though.. thats just a link
so the unit on the left is what i have
yeah fair, decent
bottom is battery, middle part is the breaker etc, top is inverter
but its just a cover..
behind it, is a GoodWe GW5048-EM ๐
How much did the total install cost if you don't mind me asking?
ok, so this is a mess
i had an existing ABB inverter with 26 x 235W panels
so i replaced the ABB with the eStore system.. that was $8200
so thats inverter, bms, battery, installation
and for that, they had to do some rewiring to put certain things on the backup side of the inverter
then, being winter, i spent most of the day charging the battery
or any other rebates?
so i decided i wanted more panels
so i got the 20 x 330W panels, and another GoodWe GW5048-EM
and that was... $5990 installed
just STCs
Ah fair. I got a Fronius 5kw inverter + 20 x 330w panels installed. cost $1200 after rebates
im going to try that integration.. brb
i never thought to check UDP
restarting HA
i wonder if i can ask the dev to add support for multiple inverters
If it works I might take a look and submit a PR as I would like to use it with a couple of Goodwe 5kw inverters later on
I looked at the code it should log errors
im running the inverter_test.py now, from a docker terminal
odd responses from both
but then again.. they are firewalled off, so perhaps thats an issue.. let me relax some rules
nope
the one with the battery is responding with invalid/unexpected data
and the one without the battery (its likely sleeping now) isnt responding at all (it responds to a ping though)
just adding a new firewall rule
allowing UDP from those 2 devices
just incase its being 'caught' somewhere
ill try again in the morning too
because inverters have different firmware
the one that is 'sleeping' will have GoodWe original firmware
the other one has a different firmware related to the battery, for some reason
yeah fair, night mate. Good Luck hope it works out.
I should go to bed too, lockdown vibes pushing my sleeper later and later
ok
nmap confirms both have port 8899 open
so there is hope. Maybe its just in a different format, which might be able to be added
๐
np
hmm
the PVMaster app connects directly to the inverter
and the inverter also seems to be listening on UDP 48899
hmm, so someone with a 5048ES is saying they are also figuring out data via UDP
hey fellas ive got an electronics question for ya. I have this fan light LED replacement that Id like to turn into a work light for projects around the house. It has a black, white, and ground. Can i just solder those to a normal plug and use it that way? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQFUEDA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
assuming this is intending to pull mains power, that would work
you typically don't need ground but its always good to use if its available
gotcha thanks. ill use it
solder? most mains plugs are screw-terminals
i was just gonna cut an extension cord
that works too, make sure you use good insulation
even better, cut the end off a spare CPU plug
most of us here do ๐
lol i don't know the actual name
kettle plug?
figured it would get my point across though
heavy duty power cable
i used to call them "kettle cord" when i was like 10.
man, thats a looooong time ago
'cause the kettle probably pulled enough power to need it ๐
we dont really have "kettles" this side of the pond
and before a time when people put proprietary crap everywhere
if i called it an IEC C13 in front of people, they'd not understand me
our slow cooker uses one
honestly never heard that term in my life
so C13 is a normal computer one
pretty common in the uk
C15 is what you will most likely find in data centers
c15 is thicker i guess?
yup, can put a C15 plug in a C13 socket, but not hte other way round
today you learned...
@fallen patio well, you caaaan.. if you have a knife handy lol
haha knowing me i'd be more likely to rig the two up with jumper cables and blutack
i needed to get a switch up and running for testing one day.. took a knotch out of a C13
i wouldnt put it on site like that, but it was fine for bench testing
where does the notch come out of exactly?
frees free though
When is the next release, I think it was due already?
Yeh that's what I thought
Gone are the days of every two weeks
Back in the day it was every other day ๐
3 weeks is fine too.
5 weeks like for this release is long. but on the other hand I'm more hyped ๐
Dont matter really, they release a major and in the next two weeks there are 4 minors ๐
I havent been following it
is there something sweet on the horizon?
I just tought my docker script was broken ๐
Why is this still on this version :?
a lot of stuff from "what the heck" is in the new release, that could be quite nice.
oh I see
Don't know why this cycle was longer. If because of summer or only because of the birthday tomorrow.
It's the 'Rona
It's because of the birthday

Does anyone have any recommendation on motion sensor hardware for use in automating lights on/off? Perhaps a multi-sensor so it can do other things too. Are the DIY ones by BRUH Good? I have a 3D printer so I could make it pretty easy.
See #hardware-archived ๐
I managed to scroll through the list of channels and miss that, well done me ๐
@clear ferry what are these hours your on? you back in the states again trying to catch covid?
It's only 9PM in Norway ๐คทโโ๏ธ
he normally isn't on till later and then hangs through the night
last time he was around these hours he was here in the states
Doth mine eyes deceive me? atx is back? ๐ฎ
So I am about to brag a bit. I just got my YIO remote and it is nice, it has a sense of presence when holding it and the back for sure does not feel like it will fall ourt of your hand. I currently have it in the dock and it does not look like it will tip over at all. Still need to charge it and turn it on, but so far it looks good
Interesting
whats the point
Linux in a remote ๐คทโโ๏ธ I mean why not but 400โฌ is to f. much
(or 300 as a DIY construction kit)
Wait, atx is back?
Hurricane Sally made landfall on Wednesday as a Category 2 storm. The wind knocked over a semi on I-10 in Alabama. Fortunately, the driver wasn't seriously injured.
Track storms all season: http://KHOU.com/hurricane
@forest edge down to cartoons today ๐ค
The point is I was bragging. Yes that is expensive , but that does that make it any less brag worthy.
@tidal bronze that's atx on the left lmao
was thinking of the other one i posted lol
Didn't know he was that short
oh yea and temper matches perfectly too lmao
Although you doubted me going all out farming, after yesterday I am going to do it for certain.
Heard this new thing called "herd mentality" I surely want in on that.
not seen it, but heard about trump
herd mentality == mob mentality ....nothing new
Back to my research on herd mentality ๐

not normally used but same diff ... a poor use of words to describe
I hate SQL

You want a locked down appliance feeling or a "I want to be in control" feeling in the morning, supervised and OS is the former, core and container is the latter

@last dirge lol where did the bad language touch you?
@green inlet you alright? Went MIA after 8AM softball. Is this a different kind of softball ๐ค
ugh if the sonoff zigbee temperature sensors turn out to be worth a crap I may have to have zigbee in my home ๐คข
I have those and they work fine for me
Though not great range
needed a bulb in the room between to relay
I have actually never seen a low signal issue with ZigBee, someone posted a picture from z2ma the other day with a lot of weak link devices, and I went "didn't even know that was a thing in z2ma"
I have those and they work fine for me
@sharp spire did not think they were out yet?
oh you mean zigbee in general
SONOFF SNZB-02 is a ZigBee temperature and humidity sensor that can seamlessly work with SONOFF ZigBee Bridge to track and record the temperature and humidity change in your home.
I got them from that site back in June
how are the batteries holding up?
nice to see some competition for the xiaomi sensors. anyone compared them yet, any conclusions?
it's reporting "80" for battery after ~3 months
I have a few Xiaomi sensors that have been running for almost two years
Not complaining about battery yet
though I'm not sure how specific that is
I also got the sonoff zigbee button, but I prefer the Xiaomi ones
better "click" to it
20% for 3 mo would be around a year and half
I have a lot of xiaomi sensors. almost no battery replacement yet. the single button is the one that does not work flawless, there are times where the first press is not recognised. everything else runs fine.
funny thing battery for those cost as much as the unit itself lol
I have three single button Xiaomi, never had issues
I bought a big pack of batteries off amazon
you can't calculate the battery life flat. you have to see how long it lives till its completly dead.
yeah it's pretty hard to accurately measure
is also matters what battery type and everyone has its own discharge curve
the xiaomis show 100% for months until it stats dropping
well that's fine - as long as it has some indicator when it's dying
those thing are more than twice the price
well that's fine - as long as it has some indicator when it's dying
@sharp spire they are suppose to alert you at 10%
I have it setup with zigbee2mqtt so I don't know what kind of alert I'll get
@sharp spire are you using thier zigbee bridge?
no, I'm using a dongle in my rpi
Zigbee2mqtt 4 lyfe
probably if you use their app it'd be worth it
i paid about the same for the xiaomis, but sometimes only because multiple at once.
I do like how the xiaomi ones can go to -4f
you could put the thing in a freezer lol
probably if you use their app it'd be worth it
@sharp spire if there isn't already there will be esphome or tasmota for it
well the site says -20
esphome started supporting zigbee right?
The Xiaomi buttons only cost around $7 each - I put one outside so we'll see how it goes
the first ones I ordered right at the start of the pandemic took 4 months to deliver
I like the bridge aspect because I can put it anywhere but need to find a decent review to see how well it communicates with other non sonoff zigbee crap
AliExpress is 10 day delivery time for me now
4 months is a good time ๐ I had plenty that needed even longer.
Have you moved @clear ferry ?
Longest so far is over 6 months. Already got a refund and it came 2 months later
they went to singapore air which paused operations
as long as you have other wired zigbee devices, it doesn't really matter where the hub is located
aliexpress would be like 6 months for me
it's usually a couple weeks at worst
@tidal bronze , I have worked like 30+ hours the last three days and wife out of town so taking care of the home front also. Laundry sucks a different kind of suck.
30+ that's on the low side ๐
๐
well thats a bit of downer, this review says they couldn't get ikea or xiaomi to pair with the zigbee bridge
xiaomi devices use some slightly non-standard protocol
well this is with the sonoff firmware so who knows what may change with something like esphome on it
Laundry sucks a different kind of suck.
@green inlet you don't throw used clothes away and buy new ones?
i hope the sonoffs are fully standard protocol
it's a diffrent chip than whats used in the popular dongles
they say the range on it is fantastic
Sonoma, pretty sure I still have clothes from high school
I change my underwear out every five years wether it needs it or not ๐คฃ
interessting, sonoff has also a CC2531 dongle and they are referring directly to zigbee2mqtt !
CC2531 USB Dongle is a Zigbee CC2531 Sniffer Bare Board Packet Protocol Analyzer Module USB Interface Dongle Capture Packet Module
you date your underwear @green inlet ?
date and name so he don't lose it
@plucky sparrow that's the one I use
I thought you meant like, go out on a date, I was like kink out dude
Phone number also @forest edge
and address
Thatโs come in handy a couple of times ๐คฃ
"IF FOUND CONTACT:"
๐
what was once white undies now looks zebra striped from a distance
on the other side "EXPIRES: 2020-09-17"
I'm in the group that believes undies should never been seen from a distance
I am in the group that rarely wears undies
I change my underwear out every five years wether it needs it or not ๐คฃ
@green inlet me confuse
Wonder why you do it in half the specified time. ๐ค
๐คฃ
You mean I can keep them longer.
I jest. Santa brings me new socks and underwear in my stocking every Christmas
I need new socks. The seam on the goldtoes hits my toe knuckle in just the wrong spot
Old man problems
Old man problems is when you start wearing your socks as underwear and vise versa. The seam on the sock is an age old problem that someone really should solve. I mean, we talk on mini computers, out lights turn on by themselves, cars drive themselves. Come on man, make seamless socks.
Maybe I should get those socks that have individual toes on them
