its data from a ble sensor
I know what it is. I don't know what it's supposed to represent.
mi flora sensor (chineese version so dont work with HA nor esphome)
If it's the data from the sensor, it's unlikely.
or rather.. when it tries to print chineese characters using another encoding
They're not going to use Chinese characters for readouts of sensors.
think its a faulty sensor then?
Pretty much the whole world uses decimal for numbers now.
Nope, not faulty... encoded data.
either way the chineese version dont work with ha nor esphome, so there gotta be somethign different with it atleast
just got no bloody idea how to extract the info :/
You could look at how the existing #integrations-archived do it for the international version.
Hey I'm looking for a bit of inspiration. Got a bunch of old tech laying around and want to put it to use
Anyone got suggestions for cool projects to put 1) a Pi 3B+, 2) a pi zero W, 3) a surface pro 3 to work? Already got home assistant running elsewhere and don't need any cameras
In regards to the SP3 I'd consider putting a Linux desktop OS on it and using it as a HA dashboard
It may not be worth it though since you won't have easy access to the sensors like you would with a cheap rooted android tablet
That's a cool idea, I've already put linux mint on there as well (still overheats like crazy!)
I have a SP4 core M and I haven't found any real use for it
The only thing that would have me worry is the battery one day swelling or something since it's a nightmare to remove
You could use it with HA as a coffee table remote
If your TV and AVR have good integration
Yeah they're all hooked up
And with the microphone in the surface it might make a good voice assistant
That damn battery though! Damn thing lasts about an hour or two unplugged, such a shame
Just had a thought, with the built in kickstand maybe it would be an idea to turn a surface device into a better echo show kind of thing
Tbh you'll have an uphill battle
The tooling just isn't there for non android devices
Your "free" redundant tech may cost you order of magnitudes in opportunity costs of time
If it's just a simple website view you'll be in for a fight
This surface pro was good to me back in the day, now the fan kicks in when I open firefox and that's on linux. I just timed the battery life as well - 32 minutes from 100 to 0!
The thing cost a bomb when I bought it new. Just a shame to see it go to waste
Yeah I get you
But the value of your ~7 year old convertible laptop might have already been spent
a good chunk of that was for software anyway ๐
@midnight adder Best place for help is the installation method channel for your install method
Not sure which install you're using? If you have system_health enabled you can check Configuration -> Info, or see the following.
-
If you're using HassOS, flashed an image, or booted a VM with an image you're using #330990055533576204
-
If you installed Linux and then ran a script to install HA and have add-ons then you have #330944238910963714
-
If you're running
dockercommands or use a Docker manager and have no add-ons then you have #449717345808547842 -
Finally, if you use
pipto install or upgrade you have #551864459891703809

nm I see
anyone know how to see speaker groups in google home app? i can create them, but i cant see them to edit them or anything
they do show up in ha tho
wierd, how the F am i supposed to edit and or remove them then

#integrations-archived I would imagine but I stand to be corrected
yea might be the wrong place to ask anyway, i just didnt know where to ask
sorry my mind went Google Home integration
Groups show in in the GH app for me
The tooling just isn't there for non android devices
yea might be the wrong place to ask anyway, i just didnt know where to ask
#general-archived usually the best place for "unknown"
Does that mean that android devices can integrate into home assistant easily with the sensors etc usable?
mine does
Because I just realised I have a couple of old nexus 7s
nexus 7's don't have the lux sensor tho ๐
#android-archived would be the place to ask though
Fair enough. Just trying to think of ways to recycle my old junk. There's so much of it!

I wonder if I could replace my intercom with one, I hate my intercom
the one that's in the boot loop I was running CM on
I wonder if I could replace my intercome with one, I hate my intercom
what do you have now?
The intercom? I don't even know what it is, some crappy analogue phone handset style one that came with the apartment
What are ATA and SIP? I'd love to hook it into my home setup, I hate it!
I live on the third floor and can hear it from outside the entire building, it's that loud. Being able to enable a do not disturb would be awesome when I'm working nights and sleeping during the day
Analog telephony adapter and session initiation protocol
they are for IP telephony but you can get one for like a couple buck these days
depending on the type of handset you have tho
if it's a ringdown circuit you can still do it
I might look into that
find out the brand name of the intercom, then I can give you some pointers
I've done this before many times, I have it in my house too, I have an analog weatherproof door phone hooked to an ATA that rings on my asterisk phone system (that I run in a VM) which then alerts my cell phone, and all my extensions in the house which are a mix of softphones and Cisco IP phones
So it's super doable!
Looks like it's an Elvox Art 6200
My first thought was disconnecting the wires that lead to that godawful speaker and connecting them to an esp8266 or something
Finally sorting the damn thing might be just the project I was looking for. I'd sleep so much better!

I've a question that I'm not sure belongs in #developers or #devs_add-ons-archived
I'm not sure if the same people will look at both channels.
Is there a way to ask it in both (without cross posting or other improper behaviour!)?
Well, is it about an add-on?
If so, #devs_add-ons-archived. If not #developers. Don't crosspost though ๐
Well, is it about an add-on?
@clever mortar It's about a problem I've hit developing an add-on
Are you sure it's an add-on and not an integration?
An add-on is a Docker container with tweaks to allow it to be configured in the Supervisor UI. It is only available in the Supervised install since if you've used any other install method you're able to install software already.
Then that's about an add-on, surely?
Are you sure it's an add-on and not an integration?
@light trout I have to say, the nomenclature confuses me. It is actually relating to a custom-card I'm writing.
Then that's a Frontend thing
Oh... ๐ So none of them then
#devs_frontend-archived would be where you want to ask
#devs_frontend-archived would be where you want to ask
@clever mortar thank you!

And the glossary is a good read, along with the dev docs, which would make that a lot clearer ๐
@clever mortar I've bookmarked that and am going to read through it. Thank you.
one of these days, the directory where integrations live in HA will be called "integrations" and "custom_components" will be called "custom_integrations"

Now we actually have an ADR for it, so it should (hopefully) stick around for a while
There is that ๐
Ok that integration? Addon? Oh! Frontend convo was a good read lol
@light trout the automation section still shows and does nothing for me. think i've updated hacs 2 times since the last time I pointed that out.
Ok ๐คท
well should I be weary of a quirky install or is there just nothing there?
quirky update rather
Have no clue
you have no clue if there any automation additions in the HACS listing at all?
you said last time i mentioned it like it maybe needs time to fetch the listing or something as if there was actual stuff to populate that category so I figured I would mention there was nothing still there after all this time
and I'm referring to clicking the + button to give you the ability to install something in that category. nothing happen like last time
so it shows something for you
ok that narrows it down to something quirky on my end then
I do have python_script: in configuration.yaml and a few scripts in there. I've disabled Appdaemon/Netdaemon in teh HACS settings, so it's just the scripts that show up
for me the plus button hasn't worked since it was added to hacs, so i never knew if that was my end or if there just wasn't ever anything to populate that catagory or not
I have no custom repos added that relate to those
well the fact the plus button does nothing under that category indicates something is off. it should atleast pop up the window like yours does
prob cause i installed HACS back in 102 and rode upgrades since lol
do you have python_script: enabled or appdaemon/netdaemon?
no
then it's probably not going to pull anything up
maybe add python_script: and see if it helps
it should pop up something or not show the automation at all
could be a bug, but at least do a sanity check to see if something shows up when it should

But if you want to use vmware you could go with that

Yeah I saw usb passthough is a CLI thing, but that's fine. It's not a common usage for me. Just setup once and done.
I am genuinely angry at TILE. anyone who is thinking of buying a Tile Bluetooth tracker DON'T!!!
They have a software based battery deactivation. So after exactly one year they stop functioning. I replaced the battery but it deactivates to prevent usage.
the new ones have replaceable batteries
I think it's more about replacing an existing one. If you use their "re-tile" program to replace them, never actually "replace", but instead add the new one as a new one
if you replace an existing tile, it does deactivate the old one

@static schooner I have an old one and I replaced the battery with the same CR2016 cell and it worked exsactly for one year, but still after the time has passed on the Tile MATE and old models they stop working based on software.

Hi Gang. How are you all doing today?

@dull chasm what are your thoughts on DTSX Vs ATMOS low end ?
Quick question. Is there anything like an online feed that aggregates all the breaking changes for multiple releases?
Something to quickly check to see if it's safe to update if someone hasn't done so for a while?
No
Doubly so because a breaking change 10 releases ago may be followed by a different one to the same thing
Yeah, but they're after everything from 0.109 to 0.114 (for example)
right... could be done, it has the data for it.
The custom integration that uses that site works like that
@clever mortar I was wondering if something like that already exists, but @light trout that's a great option, thanks!
maybe one day I get bored I'll add that as well
This is you, I expect you to add a you should read the release notes banner at the top ๐
You are right.... I should replace that site with a static message saying that really ๐
I was just going to cobble something together that grabs the breaking changes for personal use if I haven't updated for a few versions, but thinking on that is a comment I've heard a few people make about home assistant - if they haven't updated for a while they can be scared to in case they miss something
https://github.com/custom-components/breaking_changes There you go @rigid oriole no need to reinvent the wheel
OK that is exactly what I was after. Many thanks!
@tidal bronze i think x is more defined (tighter) with less rumble tbh
but with only having a 10 and a 12 i thought some of it might have been limitations in freq in my setup ...plus the 12 is prolly 20 years old ....was gonna replace with a 15 but got some stuff i am saving every dime
@dull chasm that's my finding too. The track itself is 3dB higher on the low end. IMAX enhanced supposed to fix the low end.... Another format, this never ends. ๐
yamaha is adding it?
yea no shit .... maybe we just go pure viynl and tubes ๐คฃ

really what music has sub 30 hz
@dull chasm trap music ๐
wth is that
well Drum and Bass does too
Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the Southern United States during the early 1990s. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang word "trap", which refers to a place in which drugs are sold illegally. Trap music uses synthesized drums and is characteriz...
older rock such as Lucky Man from ELP had sub 25Hz material
I'm seeing lots of music with sub 30Hz in it ๐
ok
I always had pretty decent fronts with quite high range, so stayed away from subs for years (also living in apartments). Got one now and it's pretty great. Don't have transducers (yet) as the frame of my couch is all metal, and each couch piece is separate/modular, so not a lot of transfer of vibration.
I do need to mount my Atmos speakers as front heights though. Just have them as ceiling reflectors now, so the effect isn't great. Will be especially important once PS5 comes out.
ceiling reflections suck
@thick dragon i wouldn't put much stock in atmos being all that useful for a while
it has such limited movie support i can't see game developers making it a focal point anytime soon

sure, but that's a promo video
You'd be wrong. PS5 and Series X will natively support object-based audio.
okay ๐
From what I understand developers don't need to do anything, because all sound is processed by the PS5 before being sent to the receiver. And all sound is already positional in games.
will the receiver know to send the audio to the atmos speakers since there's no atmos support?
i suppose it should
but we will see
i have strong questions about the tempest engine on speaker setups, i know they care more about headphones than HT setups
i have to imagine it's PCM with some sort of special sauce to try to make it height-based
Yeah, true - not sure if it will actually support Atmos or DTS:X standards. May be shit-outta-luck if it requires a new standard that not many receivers have.
sony has already said it doesn't support DTS:X or Atmos
they refused to pay the licensing
they created their own way of doing it
and lied about atmos's capabilities to the point Dolby had to post a rebuttal and basically call out Sony for getting so many things wrong
Yeah, you're right - looks like it's simply just hardware-based HRTF encoding. So it's not even real positional audio. Apologies! Pretty shitty of them to promise something, then only provide a half-measure.
just didn't want you to get your hopes way up there
tempest engine has some cool ideas in it, and we'll have to see what comes of it, but atmos-like height doesn't seem like it'll be coming
Yep, super shitty. They could do what Microsoft have done and pass the licensing cost on to the individual. If you want Atmos on Xbox One, you pay a Dolby license, then it installs the Atmos audio driver. But I still think that's just Dolby Atmos Headphones - not actual Atmos signal over HDMI.
same with windows, i can install dolby atmos for headphones
I ran an experiment today made a PR for work project with additional comment I bet no one read this and made no other changes... it was approved. So I realised I can spam anything and it will be approved lol.

You are a bit involved zwave do you think it have a future, i bet the esp wins in the end
You're comparing apples to bricks
do you want to compare wifi and zwave instead?
Z-Wave is a protocol, ESP is hardware
WiFi takes lots of power, Z-Wave doesn't
Or are you a follower of Paul Hibbert and his belief that Zigbee is horribly expensive and doomed to fail because it's "a con"
I've got a bunch of battery powered Z-Wave devices that have multi-year battery life. Good luck with finding that on a WiFi device
You're comparing apples to bricks
@clever mortar is esp the brick ๐
Or, put it this way. WiFi is like your pickup truck. Nice general purpose vehicle. Zigbee and Z-Wave are the little fuel efficient two seater town cars. They're designed for different things, and good at different things. Assuming one is "better" means you're not paying attention IMO.
@last dirge you said you got your lump from Costco?
I think zwave is i bit slow, I live in a big house. if there is a upgrade that enable multiple ap and a more stable connection it can win, im a good eunuch believer, is there not a 2 year esp devices out?
i think of the NeoCoolcam devices
I live in a reasonably sized house, Z-Wave isn't slow.
Indeed, slow Z-Wave usually means you screwed it up ๐
they had Kamado Joe XL on sale 4 bags for $80
@last dirge yikes missed it. Have you tried B&B
nope
ZW is not slow at all if done right.
It is lower bandwidth than Zigbee, so "slower", but the range in the real world is better, and Z-Wave Plus isn't that slow
Yeh i think my network is a bit screwed, im trying with the ozw beta.
Even ZW legacy for me is instant
the only "slow" stuff is voice command
Lol
I get the occasional slowdown, but things usually fix themselves after a few hours/days
but that's because it's going to AWS and coming back inside my network
I'm looking forward to local Google Home control, some year
For me the action is instant via GH but the voice ACK is way off.
Wish the ACK can't be fully disabled
Its ok here, it forgets my door magnets all the time, and Im to lazy to install it with threads to my ordinary alarm system, its not critical. I have most of my zw controlled by the alarm IR sensors or timers.
@last dirge for brisket you go with briquettes or lump ?
Lump is not consistent for me.
Maintaining 240F, 5 to 6 hours.
Going to try roal oak this time
@tidal bronze can't you just leave it outside on the lawn? I been reading most of California is 300F+ right now
Tried that can't maintain the 300F for hours. Waiting for few more forest fires to start up and should be good.

Hi guys, if I wanted to add information on how to use add ons from the Home Assistant store, like the Deconz add-on, where would that be? Here? https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/deconz/
Think its worth keeping MQTT configured once I migrate off my OnePlus 7T to an iPhone? I'm the only one using it.
Or are you a follower of Paul Hibbert and his belief that Zigbee is horribly expensive and doomed to fail because it's "a con"
Oooooh the Zigbee
how to convert a sensor from bytes to tb?
divide by 1000000000?
still new with this I assume I put this in my configuration.yaml?
that's the kind of answer you're get from asking for support in #the-water-cooler
you'll be better off in #templates-archived
yes, my mistake. still wrong ๐
So im fixing to start my home assistant journey and i was wondering should i dockerize home assistant in unraid or should i VM home assistant?
depends on your needs and skill level. VM will give you the whole Supervised experience with addons, snapshots, UI updates, etc., but you can't control the OS and that can limit some of the more esoteric things (IMHO) you can do. A container install gives you much more control, but you lose (or need to manually implement/install) those other features
So OS would give me the more complete setup outta the box?
Im just starting with it and learning.
yes. easiest by far would just be a Pi with an SD card flashed with an image, which is well-described here: https://www.home-assistant.io/getting-started/
Nah its gonna be VM since i dont have a pi laying around.
Its gonna be VMed on proxmox
VM is totally fine. Same as Pi, with more control ๐ Definitely prefer full VM for easier snapshots and whatnot.

Has anybody tried a few thermostats and can recommend one (using Apple Home, HASS, Homebridge)?
If you're after ones integrated with HA, try #hardware-archived
Hey everyone! Been using HA for about 18 months but just joined Discord. Our setup is somewhat atypical in that our home has wheels - itโs an RV! I was a big fan of the feature a while back that allowed the home location to be updated without restarting.
The biggest challenge is that many residential smart devices canโt be easily run on 12V. So far Iโve integrated all the lights, water heater, AC, furnace, weather station (via custom Arduino-based RF bridge), electrical system (via MQTT) and a few others.
Looking to write my first integration in the near future. Just wanted to say hi!
that's neat
hi every, could someone point me where i can ask help about updating my Hassio instance? it is stuck on 0.113.3 and doens't recognize there is a new version
It tells it can't fetch versio.hom.....
But when i go into the terminal i can perfectly ping version.hom....

for you led/wled folks - when controlling through home assistant, does the pattern/logic/instructions get pushed to the board and run local? or is it a real time control from home assistant to the controller?
gets pushed to the board.
it is real time control, though, so I hope I understand your question

(it's actually a piss-poor cooling setup)
Vacuum would make a shitty heatsink since there's no convection
I used to work in a retail repair shop
it's all passive radiation
?
that's how they transfer heat in space
I read an article about it a while ago and that's apparently one of the hard things about making vehicles for space

Hello all ๐ i have some questions. I have Been looking into configure my Home into a smart Home for a while now, the thing its that i know coding but i dont know hardware ๐ my purpose would be get home assistant up and running with a Lovelace as ui, then I also want a plex server running and I have several google homes and smart devices in the house that I also want to connect to the Lovelace/ home assistant. My question itโs what hardware should I go for ?some people says a NUC itโs a good choice etc but what kind
NUC ๐คข
Well open to any suggestions, gonna run 4K video on the plex so need a little power but donโt need to be overpriced ๐
Plex will be a far bigger impact than HA
Direct play has near zero impact, transcoding 4K has a massive impact
Work out your usage profile, ask the folks in the Plex forum for guidance, and then add a little more on top
Thanks man! Will defently do
Do people usually keep or ditch smartthings hub when starting to use Home Assistant? Iโve been using Alexa, ST, ESP32โs, NodeMCUs, and sensors in my current setup.
"Yes"
And is a Pi 3B+ powerful enough to run HA
Some folks keep them, because they love being tied to the cloud. Many folks ditch the hub when they realise how silly that is ๐
Haha, I just wasnโt sure because I have been using webCore, and just started trying Sharptools for a dashboard on a couple tablets
Personally local > cloud 100% of the time
Things work then when somebody's service goes down, or your internet drops out
Yeah thatโs a big part of why I want to switch

hi guys where do i go to talk about help with getting a rest api to work in HA? need to send a url to activate a door lock on a dahua intercom.

Automations means you've got more control and flexibility ๐
Thanks @clever mortar I dont know much about the whole http api thing but i managed to get it to work in a web browser so i know it works.
Ok, it works, but there's no finesse - and if you change things on the HA side you have to update the caller too
With a webhook, no such need

Went to swap out an old pi model 2 for a 3 b+ and it's not liking the 2.5amp power supply I'm giving it ๐ It's a canakit power supply and everything, how annoying
power needs doubled from 2b to 3b+, that said it's still unusual for a canakit to not being able to drive it... I heard only good things about canakit so far
I'm still on RPi 1B+ and I think I only feed it 1A
but my 1A is also from CanaKit so not all CanaKit PSU's are the same ๐
y u no upgrade?
I live in The Bahamas
so ordering anything almost doubles even triples the price sometimes
so for things like a RPi I need to ship to my sister's house in Florida and wait for her to bring over
so for a $35 Pi could cost me $100
with customs duty, shipping etc depending if the seller even ships to Bahamas .... hence why I sometimes send to my sister
but then I have to wait sometimes months for her to make a trip
and I haven't been able to work since march so no money to even order one
hope that clears up why I didn't upgrade yet ๐
fair enough, the bahamas are a valid excuse
yeah plus with all the lockdowns etc for a long while shipping companies were not bringing us anything
an entire shipment of medical supplies was made turn around and seized so imagine regular things like a raspberry pi
guess I wouldn't even use HA on the bahamas,
nor would I have a home at all if I'd live there I believe
why not? we still have lights you know
LOL
in a place where electricity is so expensive it's EXACTLY where you need to use HA

Do you think that some standard ISP router can handle 20 shelly 1 switches, 15 ESP32 with WLED, 4 sonos speakers and everything else standard like few phones, laptops etc.
40 devices online at the same time? It might struggle.
There's only one way to find out if it works with your router and that's to try it.
Not all ISP routers are created equal, some are good, some are ... not
Yea, still waiting for equipment so i will definitely try ๐
is best practice to assign static IP to everything or?
Static DHCP leases
That is when you reserve MAC and IP for that device on the router, and on device side you leave for automatic DHCP?
reserved DHCP addresses
@midnight adder yeah
it makes everything faster
device is dumb and says "gimme an IP" and the DHCP server says "here you go"
So if your DHCP range on router is x.x.x.100 to x.x.x.200, you need to assign IP in that range for devices?
ahhh i see
well, providing your router allows it
it's not a technical limitation, it's however your firmware dictates
Let's say I have a large family room with several areas (TV watching area, reading corner, board game table, etc) and I want each of these areas to be on their own lighting control. But then a couple years down the road we rearrange the furniture and while the TV area stayed put the reading corner was expanded to a bigger area for a couple of homework desks and the board game table moved to the other side of the room. Is there a way to sort of get individually addressable light fixtures (say recessed lights) to reconfigure light groups and switches? I suspect "smart bulbs" are the answer but curiouos if there is another option I'm missing.
if you're going against how stuff is wired, you're stuck with "smart bulbs"
which isn't a great option IMO
I could home run every light and every switch to a big junction box where I could rewire things at will...but thats a lot of wire
since you're SOL if the infrastructure goes down
I'd absolutely do that
then your switches could be run with low-voltage wiring
@last dirge thanks, i am still waiting for the router so i will try that when i get it, just gathering information in advance
then your switches could be run with low-voltage wiring
@last dirge how so?
and there would be hardware in y our smart panel to deal with the rest
if you homerun all the lights, why would the switch need line voltage?
typically I bring line voltage into the switch's box, hook it to one side of switch then the other side of switch gets the black wire that goes to the light, neutrals get connected together
that's typical, right
but you said home run
if you had the loads home run to a load center, you'd typically then use a PLC to handle switching them
which use low-voltage signals
by homerun I mean I have a 14/2 cable going betwen each light to a giant junction box....similarly I have 14/2 cable going from each switch to the junction box. All interconnects are made in the junction box
hmmmm....I may be using the wrong definition of homerun ๐
if you're going to switch the paradigm, might as well do it the right way
but if you're in the US, that may limit you
as most of the DIN mounted stuff is 220V countries
I am in the US
also, $$$$
if I ever have a house built everything will be home run
then if I need to move a switch, it's not a big production
or if I want to do something like you're suggesting, no big deal
I've never heard of the "DIN rail" stuff. My version was less fancy....I'd have to open the giant junction box and rewire the well labeled light cables from the lights to the well labeled switch cables....lots of wires, lots of wire nuts.
but I'll look at the din rail solution and see if it works (and is in budget)
in reality, knowing my family, we will NEVER rearrange the space...but I fear commitment ๐
the DIN rail approach is pretty big everywhere not the US
@bitter pawn not interested in my poor-man solution, din rails or something else completely?
din rails. since its pretty big everywhere not the US. i was trying to make a funny

ill go back to my corner now.

funny thing is people will be more willing to spend it on black widow than mulan i bet

I hope this Mulan experiment fails completely. I disagree with a subscription service asking you to pay another $30 to watch something.
mulan is going to be $30? like to stream at home?
Especially since you'll never own it. Let your sub lapse and it's gone.
Yeah. Disney+ subscribers can't watch it unless they hand over an additional 30 bucks.

Even $30 is a lot for ownership of a movie. They've pitched the price at 'taking a family to the movies' level.
I don't buy media, so I don't know
Not sure about US prices but Blurays here are around ยฃ20. Even that feels a lot to me but I'm a Scrooge.
taking the family to the movies is more of an experience, paying for first viewing too. thats tough to put an equivalent price on for home
blurays here are about $90
When I bought physical media, it was usually 6 months after release for half the price.
aren't $30 USD and 20 pounds about the same?

Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.
When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:
- What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
- What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
- Is the problem uniform or erratic?
- What's the exact error message?
- When did it arise?
- What exactly don't you "get"?
- Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?

A few days ago I asked what the best way to integrate home assistant control into a smartwatch is
(No front)
Anyone who tries to do it and is on wear os, the best way forward is definitely with autowear
You can make a remote with buttons that lead to http requests or voice assistants and it's always one tap/button press away, which is exactly what I wanted
I have an app on my watch tho
one sec I'll tell you the name
it's called "Home Assistant"
LOL
Tizen tho
https://joaoapps.com/ is well worth a dig through for anybody with Android/Wear
Tasker is the HA equivalent for your phone ๐
I looked at tizen, but I didn't like the idea of going through menus to get to smarthome functions - plus in these times of austerity, it's a case of making do with what I have to hand! ๐
Tizen watches do look nice though
it's a Samsung G3 Frontier the one I have
I've just gotten started with tasker, but the interface to design any automation is so obtuse
really really like it
However, it does seem powerful
but since I redid my HA I can't remember how I typed my token in LOL
and I'm too lazy to type out the entire token
I was wondering, with tizen watches, is there a way to easily access a home assistant compatible voice assistant?
I have Alexa on my watch
Ah perfect
so yeah, I push the button and speak to Alexa
LOL
that app is called "voice in a can"
made by someone over at XDA
was like $1.99 I think
I know that one! I tried it for wear os when looking for solutions but that version doesn't work
well there's been a massive update
the tizen version didn't work very well when I demo'd it
but then I tried it again after I saw from posts saying it'd been updated
and man it works well
I have a Huawei Watch 2, IMO it's probably the sturdiest most dependable wear os watch out there
Was the update recent? I tried voice in a can the other day
I wouldn't buy any Huawei
Was the update recent? I tried voice in a can the other day
@rigid oriole well I think I've had it about a year....
so not so recent
Are there any smart watches that last 24 hours of real world use
Currently I'm working with an app called ultimate alexa but it's not quite perfect
badtelcotech: mine does
@hushed basalt with normal use mine lasts about 2 days
my battery is on 78% and I have 1d 18h 1m remaining
But like Krazie242 says, you also need to deal with the Huawei factor
Yeah I know haha, I just mean when considering one! I was on a Huawei kick before all the... unpleasantness so have a huawei phone and watch
but what don't you have?
who?
Ooofph too many choices
For all my hate for Apple you've got to admit they make choosing simple
nope
they rope you in
apple watches by far are the ugliest things
and they are apple
so that's 2 strikes already and you ain' even bought it yet
My wife has apple :'(
my condolences
my mom has an ipad and I always tell her when she has problems that my house is built on Android
but I fix it anyway
LOL
Never really tried Apple, wasn't a huge fan of the lack of freedom back in the day and then just kept going the android route
If only Android had better accessibility options
Androids and hearing aids are pretty much useless
His hearing aids would present as media devices, and slam the batteries
not all androids are created equal
Android might have improved in recent years
they connect as if they're a bluetooth headset, so it's no different than having a bluetooth device connected
my brothers don't even have bluetooth
You want BLE connection for hearing aids
The last month or so has had me realise the value of having alternatives to echo/pc mic voice control
That stuff doesn't always work so well when you have family!
yeah I'd like to have non-cloud voice
amazon polly is breaking the bank recently charging me like 63 cents a month
I'd like non cloud voice but the level of voice recognition isn't there yet for me
well that 63c transaction is 1c more than I have in the bank
so it'd fail
literally would break it
LOL
I route the voice commands to home assistant/node red and parse it there rather than specific commands, so local voice control doesn't do very well for things like web searches or picking out games
oh we're talking voice recognition not tts
Oh tts? The PC does all the speaking to I just got a voice online and was done with it, only to later find out that the voice I went with is kind of used as a meme ๐
a lot my guy
if you live alone and outsource most brain function to home assistant it requires a lot of tts usage
I live alone but if my house talked to me that much I'd think it was Hal
the biggest issue is becoming habituated to the voice and ignoring it. so i tried making a convoluted tts switcher to use multiple voices only to discover that the amazon polly integration for some reason doesn't support that
So what kinds of things do you have your home doing for it to be so active? Always happy to hear new ideas!
