generator goes on sale at Costco on the 24th

#

we've had more power outages at the house in the past 2 moths than we have had the 7 years living here so I convinced the wife to get one

#

just have to make a double-ended 14-50 cable to backfeed the house

#

and remember to throw the cutoff to the grid

That Costco generator is nice even supports Natural Gas

Regarding hotswaps. You can definitely buy generic hotswap enclosures.

#

There's cases from random Russian brands to supermicro etc.

#

And you can get hotswap cages that fit into multiple 5.25" bays

#

Toolless bays have pros and cons.

#

But to be honest we don't really need hotswap in home use. It's okay to reboot a server to change a hdd

bitter pawn
#

but hotswapping drives is cool.

#

the combination i like the most is to get this iStar rackmount.

#

and then match it up with these kingwin HDD cages.

#

i was able to get the earlier revision ones that were lik $50 as opposed to $80

#

so i would pay about $280-ish for a decent rackmount with 8 bay hotswap and 2 internal hdds

Only love for you sir

#

I did see a video of two Roos fighting today and thought it was funny

#

Was going to post but figured that would only be the 10000000 video of its kind you have seen

#

@hushed basalt , do you ever actually reach down to outlet level and turn off the switch?

hushed basalt
#

Yeah every time we unplug something

green inlet
#

Lmao

hushed basalt
#

Or want to switch something off at the mains

#

Our appliances rarely have hard switches on them

green inlet
#

If you unplug, why do you need to turn off? Cause 240 volts?

hushed basalt
#

It's not good to pull things out under load

#

Plus we can turn things off without unplugging them

#

Most powerboards don't have switched on them though

green inlet
#

Auh, you appliances don’t have switches 👍🏻

hushed basalt
#

Your appliances have switches because your outlets don't ;)

green inlet
#

See, that simple little cultural difference is so cool to me

hushed basalt
#

Plus it means we can have something still connected to earth but not have electricity in it

#

Say working on a PC case

green inlet
#

Yea, without starting a war, I have worked on tons of desktops and never cared about ground 😉

#

But suppose if it was as easy as flipping a switch I would do it

hushed basalt
#

You should google ESD electron microscope

green inlet
#

I did, when the last lounge war happened

#

🤣

#

It’s all good. It just cool to me that we are both on the same earth and someone decided your way on your part of the earth and someone decided our way on our side of the earth. With no real reason why for either one

hushed basalt
#

Edison vs Tesla

green inlet
#

But they were deciding switches on outlets vs switches on appliances

hushed basalt
#

Probably driven by cost savings vs risk assessment

green inlet
#

How many people die a year from 240 volts?

hushed basalt
#

I'm not sure when our outlets had switches

#

I'm not sure but it's significant

green inlet
#

Which is a good case for 120......what did they call it....shifting?

hushed basalt
#

Tradies are the most common to be hurt

#

I think it's probably 50 people a year at a guess

green inlet
#

Split phase power

#

Tradies is funny to me also

#

We just call them by their trade

hushed basalt
#

We probably have a much lower occupant electrocution ratio than yours though

green inlet
#

Electrician, plumber, roofer

hushed basalt
#

We call them that too

#

But what do you call them collectively

last plaza
#

240v doesn’t kill you. I touched 240v many times.

ocean mirage
#

Depends how specific you want to be

hushed basalt
#

Contractors?

green inlet
#

Probably. Laborers

#

Contractors

#

Blue collar

#

From here forward. Tradies though

#

Maybe it will trend

hushed basalt
#

Tradies typically refers to tradesmen who go out and work on premesis

#

So you wouldn't call an electrician at a power plant a tradie generally

#

I don't think people call people who work for utilities tradies either. It's all a bit fussy

#

But generally people are referring to people who work on construction or maintenance who drive out every morning at 6-7am

green inlet
#

I think we figured out why Ska is just a little off 😳

#

240v doesn’t kill you. I touched 240v many times.

dull chasm
#

but 480 hurts alot

static schooner
#

don't worry, you'll feel nothing at all

last plaza
#

@green inlet i wasn’t joking. I really touched it intentionally and accidentally many times, and I’m still alive 😎

dull chasm
#

oh you feel it ...i been hit twice

last plaza
#

Definitely

scenic radish
#

It can kill you

#

Just because it hasn't yet doesn't mean it can't heh

dull chasm
#

yep its all about how well you complete a circuit ...plain and simple

last plaza
#

Never went above 240 though. Next one usually 440 for industrial motors and such, never tried to stick my finger in there 😝

scenic radish
#

Hell, current from even less potential than 240V can kill you

green inlet
#

I posted recently about 120 hits and my electrician neighbor was very concerned.

dull chasm
#

exactly see my point above

green inlet
#

The internet was on same circuit as switch I was working on. Would rather risk 120 than hear kids scream about internet outage.

#

But my normal practice is to kill the breaker

#

Cause I have seen 120 put holes in screw driver tips

dull chasm
#

i do it both ways depending on the circuit and potential to complete circuit ...if its just hot wires and i cant complete the circuit ...i dont bother turning it off

scenic radish
#

I always cut power

hushed basalt
#

You complete the circuit through ground

green inlet
#

But if you are playing with neutral wires you can absolutely complete the circuit right?

dull chasm
#

i know i do it for a living

#

yes nuetral and ground eventually lead to same place ....

#

so yes you can complete circuit

static schooner
#

I also always cut the power to the circuit and my friends think it's silly. "Just wear rubber gloves..."

scenic radish
static schooner
#

lol

hushed basalt
#

What do you do Vasiley

scenic radish
#

"the breaker didn't work"
No dumbass, it did work, and kept you from creating an electrical fire

#

Presumably you don't install jumper wires across each outlet every time you unplug something, right?
Lololol

static schooner
#

gotta do it fast or the electrons leak out

tough igloo

@hushed basalt 55 people died from electrocution is Australia in 2015-16. That includes people killed by lightning strike

dull chasm

for america to be so bad ...i wonder why we have such a high immrigration issue

Higher risk lower impact

tough igloo

hushed basalt

Low voltage 240v is one thing. But screw being anywhere near 10kv

wet pilot

Yeah, that stuff you usually have to try to hit though

But it's still pretty nuts. You can put a florescent light tube in the ground under those lines and it'll light up

hushed basalt

Just need a bad cherry picker operator

Or a crane

wet pilot

Usually has to be a crane here

hushed basalt
#

Or even a window cleaner pole

green inlet
#

Bucket truck.

scenic radish
#

Trucket buck

green inlet
#

Or what you are talking about is higher than the top wire on a pole?

#

Api

wet pilot
#

Seems like high voltage over a roadway has a minimum height of 15ft

#

4.57m

green inlet
#

Those bucket trucks can get crazy high

wet pilot
#

Driving you'd get taken out by a bridge before you'd hit a power line

hushed basalt
#

I'm not sure if high voltage distribution is as far away as you think it is

green inlet
#

No, top line on a standard pole

#

Prob 30ish feet

wet pilot
#

30 ft is the minimum above water

#

But to keep it simple they probably just use the same poles everywhere

#

For the kV stuff at least

#

Even the local transmission is 480 or so though

hushed basalt
#

We're 415v on the customer side of the transformer

#

Probably 11kv on the other side

wet pilot
#

Yeah probably about the same here

#

Apparently

dull chasm
#

7kv 14.4 or 28 depending on where you are in the grid

lunar sundial
#

reminds me of having to play with 2000A breakers at my old job 😛

the ones you gotta pump to get them to reset

green inlet

I was going to say, I think they go higher than 11

dull chasm
#

thats normal tranmission ...not the ones on the big steel towers

green inlet
#

What is the top line on a standard utility pole?

#

Generally

dull chasm
#

its not always the same

#

alot of times its the nuetral

hushed basalt
#

6.6, 11, 22 or 33 here

#

Kv

#

Not very far away at all in terms of height

Especially if you're working on 2 storey or greater houses

bitter pawn
#

ah shit the electrical debate.

#

this blew up huge.

green inlet

You guys have sweet potato pie in Australia ?

bitter pawn

xD

i think they can make it there? but they eat it upside down.

hushed basalt

We don't really have sweet pies

#

They're savoury

green inlet

Man, you should come to the US just for sweet potato pie 😉

hushed basalt

I've had it made for me by an american

It's nice

They probably were upset they couldn't get HFCS though hehe

green inlet

lunar sundial

nah it's not like meringue

ocean mirage

its really its own thing

bitter pawn

what is your take on the aborigines @hushed basalt ?

lunar sundial
#

way fluffier and light

green inlet
#

I like anything classified as a desert

ocean mirage
#

what

bitter pawn
#

last australian i talked to hated them with a blind hatred and a fury of 1000 suns.

ocean mirage
#

yeah I mean we have plenty of racists

hushed basalt
#

It's definitely meringue. It's just good meringue

ocean mirage
#

one dude on here alluded to feeling the same way

#

its nonsense, of course

bitter pawn
#

i was told they love their liquor

hushed basalt
#

This will get pol instantly

bitter pawn
#

xD

hushed basalt
#

But it's complicated

ocean mirage
#

also fyi aborigine is not the preferred word, its got a bad history. indigenous australians is better

bitter pawn
#

ah understood

lunar sundial
#

figured they'd go with 'Native Australians'

bitter pawn
#

dont want to be mixed up with native americans i bet.

ocean mirage
#

I've not really seen that used but I guess its unlikely to cause offense

bitter pawn
#

ive also seen the videos. most of you australians on the road with bicycles are asshats

ocean mirage
#

haha

#

There are a lot of fuckwits on the road in general

#

Cyclists are mostly fine, you just notice the bad ones

bitter pawn
#

my favorite one was when a small mini got on the bike path because bicyclists were taking up the road.

#

the look on them was priceless.

ocean mirage
#

haha

bitter pawn
#

they were getting all pissy yelling "OY! THATS FOR US MATE!"

#

like...uh....then why arent you using it. xD

ocean mirage
#

The road in front of my old school was apparently confusing enough that people would unintentionally drive in the bike lane

bitter pawn
#

well thats an easy mistake. you drive on the wrong side of the road.

lunar sundial
#

lol

bitter pawn
#

trolololololz xD

lunar sundial
#

they have a better system of measurement tho

bitter pawn
#

more logical yes.

#

but it lacks freedom units.

lunar sundial
#

if they rebranded metric to 'freedom standard unit' we'd adopt it faster 😛

ocean mirage
#

tfw your units arent free 😔

bitter pawn
#

uh most definitely

#

or patriot standard unit

hushed basalt
#

Definitely a lot of jerk cyclists out there

bitter pawn
#

i hate lanesplitters so damn much

ocean mirage
#

Yeah, same as drivers

hushed basalt
#

Usually the richer the area the worse they are

#

Touche

bitter pawn
#

motorcycles/bicycles/trikes, you lane split i hate you.

hushed basalt
#

I hate most drivers too

#

And train passengers

ocean mirage
#

like I used to be pretty angry at cyclists in general but if you really count em then most of them are fine

hushed basalt
#

It seems I hate most people

lunar sundial
#

there only supposed to lane split at low speed like under 20mph

hushed basalt
#

Commuters are generally fine

lunar sundial
#

just hate everyone equally and you'll be fine 😉

hushed basalt
#

It's yuppies who go morning group riding seem to be the worst

ocean mirage
#

People get so much hate for lane splitting here even in situations where its good

#

and its recently become legal

bitter pawn
#

i hate lane splitters because they rush through and if you are trying to merge they either get all pissy OR they knowingly try to crash into you OR they are going well above 20mph and cant stop in time

green inlet
#

We have a lot of two lane country roads where I live. Tons or cyclists in groups. They can stack cars 10 deep

ocean mirage
#

most lane splitting here is just at traffic lights and it works well

#

its better than not doing it

lunar sundial
#

@bitter pawn make sure you have those dash and bumper cams going 😉

bitter pawn
#

what i hate worse is when they lane split just to get in front of you and then have to pedal like mad just to get up to speed.

hushed basalt
#

Cyclists who get annoyed at cars swerving around then on the road, who have an "I'm entitled to be here get over it" attitude are always the same ones who swerve and push to the side pedestrians on the shared paths

bitter pawn
#

and yer like...cmon asshole you didnt HAVE to get in front of me

lunar sundial
#

wait you're saying your bicyclists follow the road rules and actually STOP at lights?

bitter pawn
#

i need to get some for both of my cars.

lunar sundial
#

90% of them here blow thru red lights

hushed basalt
#

Car driver: bloody cyclists, you're slowing me down why should I have to go slower to be behind you.

Cyclist: bloody pedestrians, you're slowing me down why should I have to go slower to be behind you l.

lunar sundial
#

and stop signs

bitter pawn
#

idk i always thought it was messed up bicycles are supposed to be on the road in the US

hushed basalt
#

Motorcyclists have huge fatality rates but a lot of them are at fault tbh

bitter pawn
#

where sidewalks are perfectly fucking fine if you arent going for lance armstrong speeds.

lunar sundial
#

sidewalks are for walking tho

#

hence the walk part

green inlet
#

Urban dictionary definition of lane splitter

When excess underwear traffic squeezes in on your crotch rocket. You have to find some breathing room, commit to a line and hope everything stays in its designated lane.

hushed basalt
#

You can't cycle on footpaths

#

You'll get reversed over very quickly

bitter pawn
#

reversed over?

hushed basalt
#

Cars coming out of driveways

bitter pawn
#

ah gotcha

lunar sundial
#

that's why it was mandated cars in the US have reverse cams now

hushed basalt
#

You just need cities to put in bike lanes

bitter pawn
#

which some still dont -_-

hushed basalt
#

I would say that's more for reversing over toddlers

lunar sundial
#

too many people getting backed over

bitter pawn
#

because some manufacturers are cheap AF bastards that somehow cheat the system.

hushed basalt
#

I wouldn't buy a new car without a reverse camera

#

Forward cameras are great too

lunar sundial
#

@bitter pawn i think the loophole is collision detection warnings

bitter pawn
#

yeah those safety features are nice.

hushed basalt
#

Any company that doesn't put reverse cameras in their workers vans/trucks are scum

lunar sundial
#

my EV has 360 camera kinda nice

bitter pawn
#

i just got a car with all the safety bells and whistles minus the automatic parallel parking 😦

#

i was looking forward to that feature...

#

hehehe my company doesnt

#

we only have like 2 in our fleet that have them.

#

xD

lunar sundial
#

many companies double the reverse cam as bumper cam too

bitter pawn
#

the auto collision started beeping on the highway this morning.

hushed basalt
#

Lots of companies will jump up and down about health and safety

bitter pawn
#

while i knew the slow down was coming, it just annoyed me as i was paying attention to the road

hushed basalt
#

And do very little to actually improve it

#

It's such a high impact thing to do, put in reversing cameras

#

Less car park collisions too

bitter pawn
#

of course because it actually costs the company money to do something

#

as opposed to just preaching and firing people

hushed basalt
#

Makes backing into bays viable which is far safer

lunar sundial
#

lane keeper assist can be kind of annoying when getting on to the freeway

bitter pawn
#

the way ford doesnt isnt so bad

#

it doesnt beep at you but slightly moves the steering wheel back into the lane

#

and it vibrates the wheel a little

hushed basalt
#

I'd love those features

#

What's it like driving a car with adaptive cruise control and lane assist

lunar sundial
#

mine just moves the wheel for you, beeps if you don't place tension on the wheel, kinda like tesla's driver alert thing

bitter pawn
#

well testing the adaptive cruise is like testing the automatic braking system. you dont do it in a new car xD

#

but when it comes up its kinda reassuring its there?

#

i think ford wanted it to be an aid

#

not a crutch

#

so i can agree with that. people shouldnt be depending on this tech like it will always work

hushed basalt
#

Aids definitely prevent more accidents than they cause

lunar sundial
#

mine does it sometimes even when my hands are on the wheel and im fully alert lol

hushed basalt
#

Like when helicopters were new

bitter pawn
#

when they are used as aids

hushed basalt
#

Pilots had to manually control them

bitter pawn
#

not as crutches or supplements

hushed basalt
#

As in keeping them at altitude and straight

#

Then pilots would get fatigued and then be more likely to have an accident

#

Country driving tires me out so much

bitter pawn
#

well thats more of an apples and oranges type of comparison there

hushed basalt
#

But you can't look at things in isolation

#

The world doesn't work that way

bitter pawn
#

i can understand way more R&D being spent on supplemental aids for aviation.

#

and it actually fucking work every time

#

but with safety warning aids, being just that, a driver aid. one shouldnt become overly dependent on them

#

only exception i can think of is the self driving car type where that is its main feature is you arent supposed to be squarely focused on the road

#

but even then tesla has a disclaimer on that as well. so idk

#

hushed basalt

I trust driver aids over most drivers :D

#

Especially since we both have lax driver license standards

tidal bronze
#

@hushed basalt no handsfree driving in Australia right ?

hushed basalt
#

I am not sure

#

I am almost certain you can't though

#

We can't even fill up petrol without holding the trigger down

#

And you get fined for going 3km over the speedlimit

#

110km, okay. 113km, fine.

ocean mirage
#

depends on the state afaik, and I think most tolerances rule out that sort of difference being enforcable

hushed basalt
#

They have a "speeding is speeding" attitude

#

But have 2km leeway for margin of error

ocean mirage
#

ah okay

#

I think with some cameras here its more

hushed basalt
#
Tolerance is the difference between the speed detected by a speed camera and the speed at which police allege the driver was travelling. The difference always favours the driver and is applied to allow for drivers who inadvertently exceed the speed by a small amount for a short period and to cover any measurement variations.

For example the Vitronic PS unit has a tolerance of +/- 1 km/h. This means a vehicle's speed detected as 60 km/h could be 61, 60 or 59 km/h. Therefore the WA Police Force remove the 1 km/h from the detected speed in all instances to give the benefit to the driver.
#
km/h over the speed limit Penalty Demerits
Not more than 9 km/h $100 0
More than 9km/h but not more than 19 km/h $200 2
#

I was wrong, it's only 1km

#

so if you're going 112km in 110km zone you can be fined $100/$200

#

It's such a toxic attitude that does nothing to address road fatalities

#

But provides unlimited revenue

ocean mirage
#

oh wow

lunar sundial
#

i'd rather the police fine the ones driving while on their cell

ocean mirage
#

easier to just do speeding I assume

lunar sundial
#

or the ones reading emails while driving

ocean mirage
#

the police are not about public safety

#

this just made me remember a colleague saying that its impossible to not speed cause you'd have to be watching your speedo nonstop and that takes a lot of time

#

i guess with a 1km/h margin of error hes not wrong lol

lunar sundial
#

if they want to make money, at least im my state, they'd just have to camp the HOV lane and issue out the fines like candy

ocean mirage
#

HOV lane?

lunar sundial
#

Hight Occupancy Vehicle aka 2+ passengers only

#

OR EV

ocean mirage
#

ah okay

#

yeah we have things like that I can't think of what they are called

#

'the extra overtaking lane' 😉

lunar sundial
#

people use it for that here too

#

if the police just patrolled that lane here, they'd make tons of cash

#

$500+ fine per violation

#

I usually zip down that lane with the flow of traffic at about 113km/h heh

#

sometimes closer to 120

hushed basalt
#

Yeah it's an antipattern

#

There's studies that show that given no speed limits 85% of drivers will drive at or below a certain speed

#

Slower than that it feels too slow

#

Higher than that it feels too fast

#

That's the ideal speed limit

#

Not some arbitrary bullshit they make up

#

Plus needle watching makes most drivers less attentive to the road, therefore more likely to crash and have an accident

#

And the most fatal accidents are getting t boned which can be fatal even below 50kmh

#

So speed kills is just bullshit. Causes more deaths and makes us poorer at the same time

#

You can pretty much drive as dangerously as you want as long as you don't text, speed or drink

scenic radish
#

Not really sure about that last point lol

lunar sundial
#

I see the cruise control, no watching of the speedometer

#

set*

wet pilot
thick dragon
#

The other interesting thing to note is that car speedos are generally tuned around 5% below the listed speed. So if it says you're going 100km/hr, you're likely going 95km/hr. That's why the tolerances are so tight in Australia, because you'd need to be going well above the reported speed in your car to be considered speeding.

#

Have confirmed this using Google Maps' speed tracking feature.

ocean mirage
#

they have displays on some highways that display your 'actual' speed

#

which yeah, always show that

wet pilot
#

Add in that radar is only accurate to +/- 3 mph or so

#

Lidar +/- 1

#

And that's assuming they have calibrated it recently

Does anyone know how to make actions for the iOS app, the documentation seems to say lots of stuff except how to make one. I'm not sure where i can add the sequence/commands. After I make the action in the app, do i then have to make a corresponding automation with the actionName as part of it? or do i just put commands in the lower portion of the ios app details? That's a nice find on those tablet mounts

CNC is pretty damn cheap nowadays

Look cheap too

Plasma cutter though?

@hushed basalt Tesla Cybertruck has entered the chat
@last dirge that could be interesting, might have to get a few to compare and review

last dirge
#

depends on what you want to cut

hushed basalt
last dirge
#

that's thin stuff

#

you could get a decent cutter for a few grand and be good

clear ferry
#

Now I want an ender 3 pro

#

No cheaper to order it from aliexpress either since shipping is $60

Atx. Did you just follow the rsnapshot github to setup?

clear ferry
#

Well, I followed Tinks blogpost

unreal orbit
#

Better than any official docs

clear ferry
#

Interesting, Aliexpress now shows UK as an option for shipping

#

probably because of Brexit ?

#

And free shipping 🤔

Soon we'll be a source of cheap labour ... or at least Irn Bru

You are the new Poles ?

So they left the EU to join the PRC?

We're certainly polarised 😛

The pijuice is so expensive, wonder if I can modify a powerbank to use as a UPS between the wall and a pi properly

@clever mortar depends...I think someone stole my tires...

clever mortar
#

What was wrong with the rest of the car...?

midnight adder
#

haha

#

I heard Glasgow was well known in the past for people stealing the wheels and putting the car up on blocks?

clever mortar
#

Yup

#

Certain parts of it are still like that

#

I mean, it's a large city with some pretty deprived areas. It's not surprising

unreal orbit
#

It's always been a bit hard for me to imagine the stolen wheel business being very lucrative

midnight adder
#

yeah true

#

It was very much deep working class in the 90s

Even before then

was it a coal town?

I tryed! to play skyrim back then - had solid 16 FPS on a 1 year complete new device with maxed out apple specs

The most I've tried is Terraria, which ran fine (not really a surprise). I wouldn't expect much more though

SMRT

brazen fable
scenic radish
#

ew lol

#

is it excessive that part of my backups is an SSD with an exact clone of my server's SSD that i can drop in if the original SSD fails and then easily restore my home assistant config and /home, /etc, and so on from a separate backup?

clever mortar
#

No

unreal orbit
#

When it comes to backups it’s hard to be “excessive”

scenic radish
#

i figure 120 GB SSDs (the one i use for my server) is like $18 lol

#

so i have that exact clone in my safe

clever mortar
#

Anyway, my benchmark is being able to go back in 2 hour steps to when I started with HA... that's ... 3.5 years or so...

#

So, excessive... yeah, don't recognise that word

scenic radish
#

damn boi lol

clever mortar
#

I'm just too lazy to set up a retention plan... 😄

scenic radish
#

it just makes me more comfortable knowing i can drop in the SSD and be up and running again in minutes basically

unreal orbit
#

I just rsync my configs to a samba share which gets copied every night to OneDrive

scenic radish
#

obviously this is a rare situation anyway

unreal orbit
#

which worked great until the one time I accidently backed up a directory that had node_modules. OneDrive had a stroke and it took many days of physical therapy to get it functional again

last dirge
#

hahaha

#

I have all of the stuff that gets backed up symlinked out to a folder

#

then I just back that folder up

scenic radish
#

yeah i used to have nightly backups of my home assistant config synced to my server's external storage and my google drive, but that seemed unnecessary so i changed it to every 72 hours

#

plus i can just run it at any time i want anyway if needed

unreal orbit
#

Now that I have IoTLink properly setup I have the backup automated with NR. Before I was using Task Scheduler, which is not as easy to configure

late gate
#

@clear ferry go with prusa 3d printers or come and buy my old huge 3d printer (50x50x50cm print surface)

scenic radish
#

I just have a cronjob set up with rsync

#

I found a handy command to only retain the 10 most recent backups too

scenic radish
#

this isn't support so much as getting ideas, but i'll gladly move it to #automations-archived if needed. anyone using contact sensors on their windows with any automations? i have a few extra sensors and kind of want to put them on my windows that don't already have sensors. thinking i could use them to turn off the air conditioning when i open a window and the tstat is in cool mode. not sure about other ideas. alerts when they open and i'm away i suppose

clever mortar
#

Yes

scenic radish
#

good luck opening them from the outside anyway though since they're casement windows. would be easier to just break the glass lol

clever mortar
#

I use them mostly for:

  1. Telling me I left windows open when going to bed
  2. Telling me I left windows open when I leave the house
  3. Telling me I should open/close windows because it's cooler/hotter outside
#

It's also hooked into the manual alarm integration

scenic radish
#

ah nice, thanks. i'm actually using #3 but it's only based on the tstat being in cool mode when the outside becomes >10 degrees cooler than inside and below a certain dew point

#

could be handy if the tstat is off and the windows are closed for some reason

clever mortar
#

(3) is for those few days of summer we get, so that there's a hint as to when it's time to open or close windows

scenic radish
#

yeah, makes sense

unreal orbit
#

10 Degrees?? My notification goes off after 2 degrees difference

clever mortar
#

C or F 😛

unreal orbit
#

Either one is a lot

#

one is more a lot

scenic radish
#

second floor condo, it takes a bigger inside/outside diff for me to get any appreciable cooling when it's cooler outside

#

like, even if the inside is 75 and outside is 65 with a fan blowing out one window and a window on the opposite end open (producing very nice airflow) the temp doesn't drop much

#

thankfully my AC can run safely when it's as low as 55 F ambient outside, though by the time the temp goes below 60 outside i can get decent cooling inside with the windows open

daring stirrup
#

hello everyone!

lunar sundial
#

wait you have the AC on when it's 65F out?

i figured i'd stop bothering you on tasmota server with generic stuff

scenic radish

@lunar sundial usually

lunar sundial
#

you're crazy 😛

scenic radish
#

If it was 75+ during the day

#

See above--I can't get the temp low enough inside if it isn't below 60 at night after being 75+ all day

#

If it's no higher than 65 all day then I won't need the AC

lunar sundial
#

my house is comfy at 78 indoors

scenic radish

🤢

lunar sundial

anything lower and it feels too chilly

scenic radish

I like it 74 during the day, 71 overnight
