Trust me right now there wouldn't be much point
only thing i'm missing from lockdown is restaruants
That hasn't affected us much
As Norwegians go out to restaurants at most once a month, if they are pretend posh
I work for a school, so we will be closed till september now
Wow that's really good you're lucky
we could soon, but there is no point as students won't be travelling here
looks like goverment here is delayng as summer holidays is in a month
So everybody got to do their exams
uk
Ahh ok yeah. Wales have said extending a week into the summer holidays I think
my sweet little home network as it is atm ❤️
Most Norwegian schools are contemplating doing more remote schooling from now on
Since it works so good
Remember we started with remote lectures in 2003
@hearty depot did the card work?
yeah our company definitly will, they can sell courses first week online, then some in person
bundle together they make money from not having to have the classrooms required ect
massive money savings to be had
That's an absolutely ENORMOUS network switch!
yea - at the moment eth3 is connected - eth2 is zhe mainboard
I only use the office once a month anyway, so for me the difference isn't noticeable
I need 3 pepes to connect the 2x3 meter big ethernet interfaces 😛
4-port NIC?
I work in the university here and next year is looking worrying for us
I like those card but never think to write which port is which on the card
Four ports aint bad though,I've seen 16 port PCI card
They have 4x dongles on each port
It's a nightmare to draw
Yeah I don't think I need one of those. I've seen something similar with serial ports
I draw a lot of networking and power cabling, when you start to get above 700 ports stuff get... Interesting
So I usually split up my drawings to different functions of the interfaces
This is driving me nutty! In Portainer, how they heck do you get images just from Github? Guessing I need to add Github as a repository source, but can't find any docs on how to do that anywhere.
Portainer 🤢
Love the Docker app on Synology, hence why I was looking at Portainer. Just can't work out how the heck to search a repository other than DockerHub.
GitHub isn't a repository though?
It would only let you pick a repo to build an image from afaik?
I wouldn't recommend portainer though
I love web dashboards for monitoring and discovery but you should be doing all management from code
@thick dragon afaik github doesn't provide a container REGISTRY (you can add registries under this point in portainer)
only gitlab offers one.
Honestly just use docker ps when you need to observe images
And put health checks into your docker compose to make sure things stay up and functional
And use monitoring to alert of fatal errors
this meight work out
dang @hearty depot mine dont look as pretty
thats defenitly auto generated - I had to draw mine
https://app.creately.com/
lol yep i am lazy
just on setting it up - this as a visual helper is probably a good start
not shure how I should segment it
this better
the one before is a potatoe
yea that showed all clients
unify usg I guess
yep
8 ports and a dedicated AP? You spoil your kids. I like it!
yea and they still complain
You'll get one port and you'll like it
Lol dedicated ap with aggressive QoS rules
yea ....he complains .....it filters any bullshit like porn or anime
The ultimate anti talking back system. Do I hear 20mbps? How about 11?
yea .....if i am sourcing a movie for example and its 50g from main network ....his slows down to only 50m and he complains .....

28.8 was ratified in 1994 though
14.4 was 1991
9600 was 84 apparently
I started with 9600 in 91 though
well i dont know it blurs toghter that long ago ....... but 84 was the first time i got on prodigy and bbs
then who is saying youngster ..... you snowflake
what i should have said to you ^^^^
you will be okay ..... 🤞
Lol norwegian government opened for summer travel to all Nordic countries
Except sweden

UK keeps saying we'll create air bridges with countries with low infection rates. Not quite sure who will agree to that right now
No one wants to go to the UK anyways
Outside of London it's all teas and scones culture
Inside London it's just a bridge to Paris and EU
They even stand on the right on escalators.
@last plaza I keep putting my phone on top of my wallet and it keeps trying to read my key
"No application associated with this NFC tag"
Is anyone else having trouble accessing the home-assistant.io website?
that's a negative
yes, it's been down for me for a couple of hours
the site or the forum?
both
both are fine or me
An error occurred during a connection to home-assistant.io. Peer reports incompatible or unsupported protocol version.
Error code: SSL_ERROR_PROTOCOL_VERSION_ALERT
what browser are you using?
tried Chrome and Firefox
it says I can enable TLS 1.0 but I don't really want to
(Firefox)
IE gives "Can’t connect securely to this page
This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner."
Loads fine here
works fine from my phone
Well, Edge sulks here, but Chrome is happy
have you tried updating BOFA?
what's BOFA?
BOFA DEEZ NUTS
I suspect a Cloudflare related problem
Cloudflare was having problems last night according to a bunch of messages in here
Reddit had major problems with their CDN the other day too, not sure who they use
but why would it work perfectly from my phone on the same wifi...
may be linked with work laptop's root certificates or something
oh yeah
there was some looming root CA cert expiration issue
multiple news articles the other day about "your smart TV might stop working!!!!one1!!!"
check system date/time
that'd just complain that the cert either wasn't valid yet or had already expired
system date/time's fine
I heard stories about sectigo root certification expiring end of May
where in the world are you?
Australia
@hushed basalt you around?
btw not sure if this site is reliable but https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/home-assistant.io.html says it's down too
Home-assistant down? Check whether Home-assistant.io server is down right now or having outage problems for everyone or just for you.
@mossy elk says it's down for me too but I can go to it
probably a regional cloudflare problem
maybe
but it still links to SSL connection for sure
Yeah fine here probably someone local to you pinged the server mid deploy
as again, my phone is working fine, and all my browsers complain about TLS/cipher
works fine here in germany
this makes alot of sense 🤣
the ssl protocol mismatch doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense
@grand plank you were the first one reporting it down, where are you located?
@grand plank you were the first one reporting it down, where are you located?
@mossy elk London, UK.
what error do you get?
@mossy elk if you go to https://www.home-assistant.io/cdn-cgi/trace where does it say for loc
ok same in Apple wording
on this test I get a red cross for the TLS 1.3 test: https://www.cloudflare.com/ssl/encrypted-sni/
Yup, I'd say Cloudflare having issues
while on my phone I get a green tick (and can access HA)
I get the red cross on Chrome and can reach the site 😉
ok 🙂
Could always try https://rc.home-assistant.io/
is CloudFlare new? I mean HA site using it?
no
This site can’t provide a secure connection
rc.home-assistant.io uses an unsupported protocol.
ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
I thought since it was Thursday night and people were complaining about Cloudflare it was just the weekly backup
but apparently it's a CloudFlare problem
but many websites are using CloudFlare as CDN, and HA website is the only one I have problems with
on SSL/TLS tab, all red crosses
fiiiiiine
it was me
Yall need to upgrade your OS and browser
I set the default TLS version to 1.3 last night
All current here, and Edge still isn't happy 🤔
Chromium Edge?
Windows - MS Edge
I'd assume MS Edge
Yes but the new version of MS Edge powered by Chromium
Obviously IE sulks, but if you flipped it to 1.3 only I'd be shocked if IE talks it
Old edge or the Chromium build
Depends if you've had the the latest feature update or not
I don't think so
👍 Yup
Up and running again.
yep, works again now!
Looks like TLS 1.3 support isn't as widespread as the theory said 😄
upgrade your shit yall
#tlsmatters
but OS controlled by my company
@clever mortar stats say otherwise 🙂
sure did
@last dirge i used to have a phone case wallet
It took me a while to figure out why my phone kept beeping when I had my case open
@flat lintel Cloudflare says you should fix your HSTS header too 😉
TLS 1.1 🤢
@scenic radish thank you
I’d love to enable HSTS but I haven’t done a thorough audit of our domain to ensure theres no HTTP
could do the same as the TLS upgrade 🙂
distributed testing
you can control the TTL
tru
True
guess who just went through all of that crap?
not False
are you using CF for SSL offloading?
yessir
I'm using Windows 10 1803, looks like TLS 1.3 started with 1903
again, company controlled
lol 2 year old OS
thanks for the tip
got some badmins over there
why are you using a 217-year-old operating system?!
@scenic radish what do you mean? it's from 03
2020 - 1803
That's 200 years in millennial
@wet pilot not sure what you mean, we'll never need more than 2 digits to store a year
lol
heh

2035?
@flat lintel thanks for the quick action anyway - good to have the forums again
Early 30s I think
Late 30s. 2038
its a miracle we got them back up and running as is
yeah i hope you guys weren't up too late last night...
11pm is when we called it quits
didnt help i couldnt sleep night before until 4am
we will have to do more maintenance this weekend
I've had upgrades like that before, where the simple upgrade turns into a multi-day nightmare
That was Apple's fault on the sleep
Fine if you're getting paid overtime for it... not so fine the other 99% of the time 🙂
you guys are getting paid?
lol
Turns out there must be a very rich nerd live around here somewhere
the plate looks 'shopped
Promise it wasn't took the picture myself
oh i wasn't accusing you, it just looks odd for some reason
Yeah it does rather to be fair. Compression?
You can tell it's not because of the way it is
definitely from some of the pixels too
@slate marsh compression, or you're a || fucking liar ||
just kidding!
pls no mad
Lol nice use of redaction there
they're not committed enough, they should have changed the RANGE ROVER lettering to say RANGE SERVER
https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ I'm not a liar but the owner of that car is being naughty... (might need to enter the plate number)

what's the Dodge SUV called?
Durango?
I saw a picture on Reddit of one of those where the owner replaced the D in the middle of the brand name with a doge emblem
Love it
Yeah, Durango
Also anyone who has a Kroger/Food4Less near them, you need to try their hot Italian sausage. It's so good
no kiddin
Created a fully navigatable 3D model of my Home to control my Home Assistant connected devices. This '3D floorplan' is accessible from within Home Assistant and works on mobile devices as well. Device states (e.g. lights) are updated real-time and can be controlled from every ...
so i saw this and i think im gonna make something similar for my GMC RV hahaha
@last dirge so you've had it before?
Im a cad Designer at heart ill try my hand at 3ds or something instead of just fusion
yeah
so good, it's unreal
sometimes the stuff in a casing is cheaper
so I end up buying the stuff in the casing and cutting the casing off
So we have last DIGITAL release for now - ver. 0.111.1 before **GREATEST HA **ever: ver. 1.00 🙂
unless we hit 0.111.10
Plenty of time for 0.111.10 😛
hot Italian sausage. It's so good
@scenic radish ...
Also, you're assuming we won't get to 0.1000.0 😛
Only thing I've noticed as an issue so far is Yeelight
my restart time doubled but the frontend starts to be available in like 5 seconds
i think in my case since the logger was finally fixed i didnt see anything so i thought after 5 min of logs something got stuck lol
so maybe the overhead of the frontend being available early affects the total start time?
they changed how everything loads actually..not only frontend sooner but platforms load after integrations i think
but having the frontend avail in 5 seconds is actually really nice
It is a little scary the first time you do it when literally everything in lovelace is broken 🤣 , but that is super nice having access early
By the way, switching to docker-compose
I just hate that the theme isn't loaded at first
MY EYES
Teddi loves it
Because he lives white themes
@scenic radish leaving it in the casings is no good if you use it to make meatballs
The madman
Having automated themes 🤣
@last dirge I just eat them on a bun
Mine is automated too, but it doesn't load it in 111 before a few seconds had passed
for as mayo/bland as Kroger is, it's got a surprising amount of heat
@clear ferry yeah but it loads right away if you don't use backend selected
protip, if you go shopping around the time they close the meat counter they often take the fresh sausages they made to put in the display and put them on a tray and sell them in the "manager's special" section for next to nothin
Ah, good to know 👀
those are WAY too greasy to eat as a sausage
Yeah for sure
but make an excellent taco stuffing if you take it out of the casing and cook it up
We usually just fry chorizo and add it to tomato dishes
Great in pasta putanesca for example
This chat is making me so hungry
Those are nice
Costco's got butts on sale $5 off
if you're into the smokin

@last dirge thanks for tbe heads up.
you act as if people haven't screwed that up before lol
wtf lol
Had to edit it as I actually have hair
@clear ferry finally getting peach fuzz on your upper lip huh? || I should really cut back picking on you haha ||
lol
i'm above the law tyvm
is the difference between a Samsung 42" TV and a Samsung 42" monitor only the control board?
@last dirge color spectrum, refresh rate just to name a few diffrences that bump up that price
it can't be THAT different
?
a tv vs monitor? sure it can lol
when you do gfx/photography it's a huge diffrence
I'd say the price difference is more due to demand
it can't cost 4X as much to make a monitor
but there's a far bigger market for large TVs than for large monitors
gigantic TVs are cheap now
well i'm sure it doesn't cost them 4x as much to make, but those who need that are more willing to pay 4x to get it
it's the same for all monitors after you go 1440p
and high refresh 1440p monitors are even stupidly priced
i mean, is the resolution higher on the 42" monitor than it is the TV?
not on a 4K TV
and I'd be extremely surprised if Samsung developed two different 4K panels
ignoring current vs last model
Usually refresh rates on TVs are worse
What specific devices are you talking about?
that's related to the hardware driving the panel though
I'm not talking about any specific stuff
it's mostly over the color spectrum the monitor can display that most tvv's cannot
just noticing that Samsung 4K monitors and TVs are at drastically different price points
the TVs have HDMI but can't push the framerate over HDMI
and don't have displayport inputs
Displayport 🤢
Without knowing the devices you're looking at it's really impossible to tell 🤷
colors show diffrently depending on adpater you use as well
@clear ferry what?? Why do you hate display port?
hdmi usually shows black levels washe dout more so than displayport
Displayport's currently the highest bandwidth video input, isn't it?
@unreal orbit because I never have a displayport monitor in the DC and then some feckers have a server with only dp 🤢
nobody tell him that they make adapters
@clear ferry isn't it part of your job to be prepared for that stuff? lol
Adapters, like I have room in my bag for that with the five different serial cables I carry

If you're already carrying hdmi cables just stick the adapter on the end
remove as needed
But seriously, the only place you find dp monitors in Norway is in offices, and it's a pita every time I see a system with it
Because regular monitors laying around usually only have dsub or hdmi
good ol' VGA
Well regardless of convenience, they are the better standard as far as performance
and the fact that they lock
bring back coax
Performance has been of no interest for me the last 15 years in regards to displays
I care about the display itself. The nature of the cable... not so much
I bought a 4K monitor so I could split it and have 4 displays on one screen
but the refresh rate was dogshit and make it unusable
lol
wanna watch a video? LOL good luck
brian trying to make a datsun run like a lambo
@clear ferry maybe if you were using display port then you'd have the reaction time to beat the chained ogre
I couldn't even use it to display my IDE
I'm the other way around
I never used my shield in dark souls
And I sucked with the gun in Bloodborne
Well more so parrying. If you didn't parry in ds then you're a silly pants
But I'm cunning and brute
Bloodborne parrying was... interesting
takes some getting used to, but it's very powerful
and basically required for gascoigne
this one of those games like Zork isn't it?
I play many games
Btw @scenic radish you should watch 8 out of 10 cats does countdown
don't tell me what to do
you're not the boss of me now
you're not the boss of me now
you're not the boss of me now
and you're not... so... big
Have you seen the no hit dark souls speedrun
Dark souls 3, 2, and 1. No damage taken. Played consecutively
Twitch streamer The Happy Hob beat all three Dark Souls games back-to-back without taking a single hit. Starting with Dark Souls 3, he continued with Dark Souls 2 and eventually ended on Dark Souls 1. This run was finally done on March 9th 2018 after more than a year of trying...
Hello home assistant crew
speed runs are boring
@clever mortar that's what she said.
Tinkerer is away for 45m 59s with a message :point_right: Life isn't fair, it's just fairer than death, that's all.
Think I saw the record for Sekiro was 20 minutes now
Sekiro is stupid broken
So am I, but here we are!
Hob is kind of a joke in the speedrunning community, btw. Though he's a good sport about it

I do not own any of this material it's all courtesy of Monty Python at www.youtube.com/MontyPython .
I only upload these videos because i'm tired of all the shitty quality ones on youtube.
I used to eat gravel for breakfast rargh rargh rargh
how did you know i told my son that
lol I remember when my dad use to tell me I was lucky that there was school buses and mom could take me to school because he had to walk for miles to school and back regardless of the weather
uphill both ways in the snow
I use to think he made it up, then realized he actually did 😮
I walked sometimes, but usually the bus was much better lol
My bus was slower than walking
Took 40 minutes to walk home and the bus took 45 minutes
lol
prob whats wrong with our youth, too many conveniences. making them lazy and not appreciate stuff lol
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
Anyone sharpen their own knives here
I do
I use a stone I got on amazon for like $25
I watched a lot of videos online of how-tos, there's a japanese guy that is a sharpener for a major retailer in the US and he's got a lot of videos
I've used whetstones for 10 years but I've never been happy with the result
I was thinking of getting one of those jigs
Where the knife gets held and the stone moves on the jig at a fixed angle
Story of my life
:(
i just made my startup notification display random phrases and this one scared me for a sec lol
Scared me too just reading it. You’re a clever sausage! That should be an April fools update
I just ordered this, should be pretty awesome.
Our Most Popular Diamond Sharpening Stone Set. Ultra Sharp Diamond Sharpening Stones are the best value we've ever seen and come with a "No Questions Asked 100% Satisfaction Guarantee"!
BestSharpeningStones.com
Well, you've convinced me.
it sounds cheesy but the guy has a good rep in the knife community.
and diamond plate is real so
Ooo nice
yeah I didn't go for random informercial, a friend who is into knives and sharpening recommended.
Oh I'm just messing around, I love cheesy domain names like that
Though, there's a billboard by me that says
Want a second opinion?
DrSpine.com
Like...I'm not gonna go to a website called DrSpine.com if I'm having spinal issues lol
hahahahaha
nope.
anyone know if you can buy the big lego blocks from the site? wanted to use some for project enclosures but couldn't find them on the site.
the ultrasharp is excellent for chisels
there's a YouTube dude that does comparison stuff and he compared a whole bunch of sharpening systems
and a $40 stone did almost as well as a $900 sharpening system
stones are great because you can do any angle
you just have to practice holding the blade at the right angle
he had some crazy piece of equipment that measured sharpness
haha yeah sharp edges aren't magic
he's the same guy that compared carbon removal for small engines
real nerdy sounding dude
I like to find people like that who know what they are talking about and review stuff
when I was looking for a real multi-meter to go with my fluke 101, I found an electrical engineer dude on youtube who is a freakin genius and did all kinds of crazy tests on multi meters, built a lot of the test gear himself. went with the bryemn 869s, it beat or matched the fluke 87v in everything and had a few things it didn't, cost $220 from TME instead of whatever the 87v goes for, like $450? $500?
this dude kills mutli meters pushing them and then fixes them, haha.
quit spammin it everywhere 😉
first Reddit, now here
I'm totally kidding man 🙂
where'd you get the heatshrink on the end of the LED cable? It looks super finished
Im sorry, I look at the google analytics numbers and they make me happy, I just brought it from Jaycar here in nz
it's really nice looking
you can post the link again dude
I just flicked through the images and didn't pay much attention to detail
it's just on/off LED?
the heatshrink looks really good but its hit and miss on actually staying on if pulled on, its more peace of mind so that the 12v doesnt short on the aluminium
they are just plain old 2 wire on off 12v strips
you can use hot glue
Building stairs with smart lights during quarantinehttps://jaybigguy10.gitlab.io/post/building-stairs-with-smart-lights-during-quarantine/
it's exactly the same stuff they use for their IP rating
they just have a fancy machine that applies it perfectly clear
and does a little swipey swipe to make it look nice
I would if i had a hot glue gun, easier to pick up heatshrink at the same time
North Island, New Zealand
Thanks man, no its like 1pm
gotcha
not many folks would actually use conduit
@tidal bronze you see Mr Fancy over here with his wire management and conduit like an actual project?
makin my expanded sleeving and P clamps look inadequate
well we only used it on the 240v side on the deck build and it cost a bit but we found cheap flex stuff for this because we were running longer lengths of wire in the open
you just went into a single side of the LED strip and didn't chain them?
I guess no need since they're not addressable
Got a random newbie Linux/Docker question - Want to install NGINX Proxy Manager on a new host (not HA addon). NPM uses MariaDB, and the installation recommends a docker-compose to merge the two into one container. If I wanted to perhaps use MariaDB to record my Home Assistant events as well as NGINX, should I set up an independent MariaDB docker container?
yeah, there is a one way junction box behind each strip with a hole drilled in the back and one wire feeds power to the next one, one to the strip and one from the previous
@cobalt loom nicely done. Good to see things done right. @last dirge thanks for the share. 👍
cool
I overcomplicated mine
🙂
I need to spend some time pulling it back apart and giving it the ol' conformal coating
Although pixels would've been cooler 😜
waaaaay more of a pain in the ass though
yeah, im just switching the high voltage to the power supplies, the controller was one of my first smart tech purchases
he couldn't have used that slick wire management he used since he'd have to snake the LED wiring from one to the next
Always a method to the madness
did you end up getting that Volt low voltage lighting from Costco or no?
Getting direct from china.
Huh ?
are you in the bay area?
LA
found out about a company in San Francisco (I think) called Stealth EV
they make REALLY cool stuff
they did the electronics and drive system in this car https://stealthev.com/portfolio/
They do have some cool stuff.
but do they have ludicrous mode.
they have a Tesla P90D drivetrain in a Shelby Cobra replica
which I'd say is pretty ludicrous

@tidal bronze and you give me crap about posting tid bit info lol
I looked into only because its work related. I dont go counting supermarkets in no man's land 😜
uh huh
For a minute you sounded like my teenage niece
I just found out today that there is a massive appliance shortage going on
went to buy a refrigerator and over half the brands were on back order lol
That should not bother you right ? You only use stuff from 1983
Right on.
the stuff a semi couldn't dent at full speed
Looking to change out mine as well.
well if it's not already in stock in the store, good luck lol
Few weeks ago it was in stock just looking at different brands etc.
freezers are on backorder until the end of September
I needed more freezer space so I ended up upgrading my fridge/freezer and sticking that in the basement since nobody's got freezers
I guess it makes sense with covvid etc
but i was kind of suprised there wasn't more of a stock pile
Actually built in models are all in stock. 🤣
Subzero
Wolf
Subzero
whoever designed my house didn't consider the fridge at all
one side of the fridge is the pantry and the wall for the pantry sticks out 2 feet past where the fridge normally stops
so if you've got a side by side fridge/freezer or one of those fancy french door fridges the left one can't open all the way
lol
so I ended up with a fridge on top with a gigantic single door
The LG double tap is pretty nice.
I told the woman if push comes to shovve we'll just buy an ice cream truck and park it on the side of the house to use
could get one of those reefer trailers they were putting corpses in
Dark but funny.
Nice. Michalada 2 days back to back for me.
Only time I drink beer. 😀
Back to binging queen of the south.
Do you guys ever update Tasmota devices or just stay on whatever release you install, do you bother with OTA?
I use esphome what's tasmota like
I like Tasmota a bit more than ESPHome, but they are both good with different ways of doing things. Primarily found Tasmota easier to setup and configure.
https://siytek.com/esphome-vs-tasmota/ gives a good overview
tbh I'd prefer there to be one standard that everyone uses so dev efforts are centralised
I'm glad I got my chest freezer last year
I have stuff in there that's older than my daughter
Vacuum sealing is awesome
I've found esphome to be really poor at rgbw lights
yeah, its worth giving both a shot and seeing what works best
Do you have any rgbw bulbs in tasmota
What curtains are you using

@hushed basalt https://photos.app.goo.gl/pgB99SdPYmT3UGji9 Zemismart CT25 from Aliexpress, literally come with Plugin ESP8266, that can be swapped
Love them, silent, cheap and retrofit into Australia's standard 38mm tube curtain blinds. Paired with a Dulux Curtain from Bunnings. Also installed them at my relatives house who suffers from arthritis.
In terms of AS3000 compliance and RCM/C-Tick certification. well...
You know it's expensive when they don't list a price
Do you have motorised curtains
@hushed basalt Yes used xiaomi motor
and motorised windows
Also motorised sliding doors for bathroom (prevents family leaving door open and letting hot air out)
Imagine doing all that with AU products and licensed electrician $$$$$
motorized sliding doors? wtf
anywhere in particular where i can tell someone a bug i found in 0.111 ? except filling a bug report, tbh i am tired of doing them, i just want to tell what the problem is, if they want to fix it is good, if not also good
Open an issue... That's the only way. No issue, no bug.
@clear ferry can't post a screenshot in the other channel

Do you have a bot command for everything
yep
.yes
a fairly pointless module, but how many people have a geiger counter connected to home assistant. https://files.catbox.moe/gysdcf.jpeg
it’s only a hard beta detector, so the only time that this will produce a reading that’s not background level is when things are so severely wrong as to be unrecoverable anyway. fills the thirst for statistics though.
there is a nuclear power station nearby though.
Coax is pretty poweful
A lot more than twisted pair
We're pushing 12Gbit down RG6 sized coax
Try doing that with a single unshielded twisted pair over 50m
Morning everyone
Also 240v DC lol
a question
Evening
How do you guys cool the water in your homes?
HVAC?
or do you use the old conventional swamp cooler?
Cool water?
yes
I don't understand
decreasing the water temperature to a level where it feels a little cold
Cool the water?
We only do that in datacenters with water cooled racks
The inlet water in our hoses are probably close to 7-10c right now
Cooler in winter
What I meant
Imagine you're in a humid hot country
the only option for cooling the water is an HVAC with coils
to cool the water tank
However, using a swamp cooler or an (Evaporative cooler will not suffice)
yikes
@hushed basalt I was quoted 1500$ AUD per window, I did it for $70
albeit that was 3.5hr time spent installing and programming tasmota
@forest edge Motorised Sliding Doors are very useful. I love walking around my house and not having to close doors or worry about heat lost from split system to other rooms
@leaden pelican feels like one server I was using a customer a few years ago, a p3 that was monitoring 5 SANS, it took 90 seconds for every one second update
Lol look at this bad boy
I still use a 20GB IDE HDD in my garage computer
Still have a box of these
@slate marsh I haven't seen one of those in the flesh since probably.... 1993
Might have been 94
Yeah to be honest that one is just in my little display of old tech
Still remember why, we were copying the incredible machine from one of those to a second floppy

Because we were sharing some games
WAREZ

I remember trying to backup a early windows machine on to 1.44 MB disks
I actually had a friend with 95 osr2 on floppy
Think it was close to 100
Or maybe it was 98
Floppy disks were great. You could corrupt them so easily if you needed an excuse when yo hadn't done something
Gps on Norway could opt to receive journals on floppy until atleast 2015 I think
Because it was cheaper than connecting to the nation wide gp network
Could you buy floppy drives in 2015
why so asymmetrical, we have the capability for better on FTTP right?
Yeah I'm not sure what the GPON speed limits are
But no doubt we can so 1G/1G
I got out of telco before NBN rolled out so I'm not sure on the architecture
1000/50 here too I think
But I can tell you we damn sure should not be using the copper network in the state it's in
It's not even good enough for voice
@hushed basalt lol what is this? 2010?
@slate marsh they bought up all the stock of norwegian internet shops in the late 00s
In 2010 they were still sending out 48000 floppies per year
I just saw someone go into the dvd / Blu-ray aisle in the supermarket
And I went like wtf
Some guys are collecting stuff
I'm guessing more technically inept
Because a streaming service like Netflix costs the same as a Blu-ray
Oooof
26c here now

lol. put up the price on the house with 200k NOK and got an offer after 2 hours.
How much are you asking for?
I bought mine for $200k ish, it was valued at $250 and now I think based on sourrounding prices I could probably get $400 easy
How long ago did you buy it
5-6 years or so
its not in the city so have not had the extreme price rise
but good enough
That reasonable
If I'm buying something new I'm going for atleast 350-400m²
So guessing around 5-600k freedom money
Preferably as rural as possible
I never going to do a renovation project again at least
im taking over my brothers house for now
Never doing that at all, I've done 4 rooms in my house in 12 years, that's enough
Mine is from 83, renovated a few rooms in the 90s
but I guess you it didnt have a different bright color in each room. this house looked light the rainbow flag
I had a lot of interesting colours
Salmon pink in the bedroom
Totally pink in the washroom
This alexa integration is a game changer
And navy blue and flaming red in the wife's office
whats up with those colors from the 80s?
boomers!
Or weren't born for 20 more years, like ludeeus
haha
yeah
well, at least a good excuse now with a full smarthome upgrade
was clever enough to remove all smarthome stuff before the sale
and photos
yeah. only thing I cant take is my hue outside lights
but removed half of them
the solar panel I dont want near to me lol
They are actually decently priced, next time I'm changing outdoor lights I'm doing hue fittings
I bought the outside series, the pedistrals and spots when they came on the marked
was a bit lower price then actually
inside?
jup
Why such a rapid price hike
outside like 30
No real A/C - summer ll kill me one again😢
I should move more to north
We are probably passing 30 on Monday here
I bought a multi split one. working great
sad I cant bring it
one huge outside unit and two inside
I would like a Samsung windfree split for our bedroom and the nursery
mitsubishi is great too since it can be controlled by an esp
oh thats nice
And my 15 year old Panasonic is controlled by broadlink
I use sensibo on the panasonic in the shed
with the generic heatpump could control a climate device
Yep
aaah just configuring my firewalls - I dont have fun
anyone else ever look up and realize you've got about 100 tabs open?
happens - just at maybe 60 now
@brazen fable 100? Those are rookie numbers
If I'm under 250 at any time
. Surprised

I hate having so many tabs open. I always nuke entire windows when it gets to be too many
I never care
64GB 32 GB ram - no issues
Thourght I packt in 64..
switch to tab? no fuck that shit
I have 64gigs on my main computer and my server
That is ridiculous
Unused ram is wasted
It should be atleast caching the camera stream
oh yea - bourght unsupported ram for the mainboard I've purchased 🙈 no overclocking to 3200Mhz.. hopefully yet..
It's running on an 8700k with hardware acceleration
It does fine
The iGPU on that chip is a beast
I was going to throw a quaddro in there but don't need it
Because bigger is better
it's running fine
@late gate muuricans
16x 1080p cameras in blue iris
There you go
I run an SSD cache for my pooled drives. Works wonders
and BI doesn't really take up much space for 1080p cameras TBH
using frigate for the object detection
I think i get like 60 days full recording on all my outdoor cams?
And that's like 10 of them
BI is a bit hit and miss with cpu use etc
its so many options its hard to know whats suggested
if you throw it on a modern chip it barely sips at the CPU
but now you can use direct to disc with overlay I think
so no need with crappy DST on the cameras
Can you?
in the last release I think
If so I'll switch to that. My cameras time clocks always fall out of sync
because the VLAN is disconnected from the net
lol
cant guarantee, but think I did see that in the release log lately
I'm apparently too used to enterprise cameras, have a customer with 10 of them, they fill a 10G network card while recording, and uses as much of the free 256GB ram as possible, before flushing to 72 spinning disks
For most airports they have one server dedicated per camera too
type milestone software?
I mean, an airports needs are a lot different than a home
Yes, something like that
I really don't need to run facial recognition or zoom in on someone's pocket to read a business card
frigate is enough for me. handle 100fps with a google coral of live stream detection, not just one frame
i just wish the BI web interface had better streaming TBH
I mean it's alright but my network and hardware has the capacity to do far better
I'm thinking of buying a coral to use with doods, is it good @late gate ?
I dont use doods, but the coral is good enough for home use
Does it get hot?
no, not really. I dont really run heavy load on it
with frigate I run 2-3fps through it pr camera
@late gate do you use any additional IR lights with your cams?
no, but many suggest doing it. I have dahua cameras and the IR works pretty well during night
Yeah i want to light up my backyard and driveway a bit better
It appears you're right
great. yeah then we can use the timestamp. all my cameras never have the correct time
I refuse to run cameras on a non locked vlan
yeah. everyone know im a solar panel whiner, but the solis inverters was so insecure someone tried to use them to install an apk on my nvidia shield somehow
from a chinese ip
also they release all grid info without username and password
so I dont trust a single device
I have $20 dahua knockoffs, and I can see most of my driveway
And read license plates
At night and day
I have the originals, so dont know the difference
but dahua in general has been good to me
never failed
in the front yard the IR does not turn on cause its so light sensitive
direct to disk with timestamps works beautifully. Woo
Directly
thats your fault :p
