@unreal orbit there is always something that we don’t like in each of them - it is a moving target.
Ring is cloud . Period
damn
Very true. They all have benefits and pitfalls
that sucks
Yep. I don’t like to keep all my eggs in one basket. I have pretty much all.
Is t Zigbee the same as zwave but just a different freq?
Yup
And a little less adopted pdobrien
I'm sure I'll try zigbee eventually, I've just had such terrible luck with that frequency in my house
but zwave is way more expensive according to what i see
It's a proprietary frequency
Atx uses powered ikea stuff that operates on zigbee - those powered devices act as repeaters and actively participate in mesh networking
By the way, I got an inovelli switch for under 35.00. Zwave plus, scene control, led notification, and energy monitoring
Will see how it holds up
Zwave stuff is getting pretty cheap nowadays
Yup.
The only reason I really have zwave is because there isn't really another option for door locks
If you were to go with z-wave, go with z-wave plus.
🤢
And Zwave!
Yup, zwave is what I said
There is enough work that goes into HAss. I just want my devices to work.
The only devices I truly never have issues with are hardlined to ethernet
That way I can spend more time on Skalavalas github figuring out templates
@green inlet that's an expensive switch! imagine the cost of replacing every switch y u have in your house
i mean if one, then sure the price is good I guess
it's going to cost a lot if i want to replace every switch
Ha. Most of my others are 50.00 homeseer switches
Every one, no.....I do it based on need
I got sold on homeseer switches because of scene control.....haven’t even really used it. But they seem to be reliable and while others complain about a zwave network, mine just seems to work
Someone will prob 🤢 homeseer
Yes it can.
At least ramp rate can. Both local and remote ramp rate
An on level can’t be done with an automation
Do it
I'll probably just end up with mirror vdevs in my soon to repurposed server
No ecc ram, like a boss
🤢
Like I'm going to spend $400 on server mobos for a homelab
We don't all have sovereign hydro power funded by soverign oil

Pew pew
I'd like to keep my base power consumption under 5kw ;)
Those odroids look pretty cool though
You can just add a pair of drives and nodes at a time
To expand your capacity
Space heaters
Haha labs are funny
Nice, power is currently $0.002 per kwh

Stay classy America
Stay ranchy
At Walmart? Mild shock
Would never happen at Costco!
Nothing happens at Costco now because it’s too hard to get in 🙁
I was at Costco last time I was in the states
Having to bring a collegue because you have to be a member to shop..
Was surreal
Gate keeping to keep the ranch drinkers out

Installed 12 Aliexpress Roller Blinds (Tuya flashed to Tasmota) Total cost $300USD, man they are fantasic, love how quiet they are and how seemless it works. Turn on TV and Blinds Close, feels futuristic in a way none of my other automations did.
They literally have a rJ45 (with 5v, GND, TX, RX) so you can plug in any MCU you want
Roller blinds, reminds me of the 80s

I’ve been eye balling the aqara curtain system for a while. Just too much of a coward to take the risk
Some elitz hacking skills on my Curtains: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FpPoRb28wpFdAdfR9
I have yet to had a bad Aqara Product
They all seem to work well
Then I have to finally setup zigbee
Aye, I have 20 odd aqara devices, all working fine
It been 3 years and some are saying low battery, so should probs install new battery in those
I realised my Solar Panels are only generating 100W thanks to shading: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dUcyAiJyXnmWRddE6
Zigbee2mqtt @unreal orbit
That's next project
Todo Sunday:
Blinds Setup
NodeRed Configuration
Switchboard - Washers, Stickers & Realign Busbar
Paint Roof Area (Skylight) + Light Touch up Gutter
[Long Term] Skylight Insulation, Batts
[Long Term] Tigo Optimizer
Vent Filler (Timber) 3mm
[Long Term] Replace Grand Vitara Radio - Stock
Siemens Logo (Pulse Counter - Water Meter)
I think I may have been a bit ambitious
Oh I definitely was planning on zigbee2mqtt. I’ve already seen the light with zwave2mqtt
@unreal orbit what's your zwave2mqtt setup?
Stay ranchy
@clear ferry you don't get to judge. you eat way worse lol

My father in law and his wife are afraid of radiowaves
They don't have a microwave sigh emoji
And have one of those bullshit "electrowave meters"
sounds familiar
Don't want solar panels on their roof
Seem okay with using smartphones and wifi though :eyeroll:
Whenever you go to an affluent suburb and the mobile reception is garbage because of residents complaining about towers, that's them
Not In mY nEiGhBOuRHOoD
Very fasy question: whats is watchdog?
It is a computer term
Or a security term
Depending on what you are talking about
You mean like third world countries like murica @hushed basalt 🙉
You mean you norwats don’t drink salad dressing from the bottle?
Not sure which made me gag more
I am not a big fan of fish so I can’t imagine fermenting it would change my mind. Never had whale. When I retire, I hope to travel the world. I love experiencing different cultures at the local level, outside of touristy stuff. Food is always high on the list.
An American traveling outside the us? I'll believe it when I see it
Also aren't you 76 already?

I don’t look a day over 73
Not with that attitude
I have been to Ireland, England, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Bolivia. Would love to see the Dominican Republic, Italy, Paris, Australia
So already 6 more countries than most Americans
Maybe even Norway if I could time it for the one warm day a year
Remember to bring all your savings, a hot dog cost $5
Lmao....supply/demand? I mean, why eat hot dogs when fermented fish is readily available ?
And having not had seal 🤷🏻♂️. Can you get buffalo wings anywhere over there?
Well, have an awesome day. Off to build houses 😉

If only.
@rare condor I see you say tigo optimizer. are you planning installing one? Just seeing tigo optimizer makes my back chill
@late gate Yes and why? Is it because of the High Voltage DC or because you had a bad experience?
Is this tigo optimizer for solar panels just to make sure we are talking about the same thing?
Buying a UPS off gumtree tomorrow
yes
I need a ups... when I have money
you NEED to buy the CCA or they will kill your wifi and everything on 2,4ghz
You can get them off gumtree dirt cheap if you're patient
Rackmounts always seem to sell dirt cheap
@hushed basalt APC didn't have any stock of my 700VA model for RMA, so they sent me a 3000VA model: https://photos.app.goo.gl/hNEg5JzgSuVf6tmU8
Tower models are held onto by SMB until they end up in the tip
How do batteries on those things hold up over time?
Probably 4-5 years if they're not used which they rarely are
@late gate I was planning on getting no monitoring, just installing two where my panels are shaded by my Evap Cooler
Putting them on a ctek charger can renew some life
Oh cool
But the UPS I'm getting for $120 is $2000 rrp
Nice
@frosty plank If you do that it will sit there and loop through all zigbee and wifi channels making them effective a jammer
So even if I have to buy new batteries it's a steal
@late gate Which Tigo Optimizer did you use? I see nothing about this issue online, I see they use IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN (2.4ghz), but to get UL certification they cannot act like a Jammer, otherwise they would fail, furthermore they have to comply with RCM testing in Australia which again has RF testing to ensure that doesn't happen.
Are using suggesting without the TigoAP they cycle through the 2.4GHZ spectrum blocking WIFI, Zigbee and the like. Any sources on this as this is the first I have heard.
same models you linked to
@hushed basalt Nice! You can buy decent UPS batteries on eBay cheap if you need to Panasonic ones are good
im not suggesting. its a fact. I struggled with this for years after figuring out it was the optimizers
When the sun came up all 2,4ghz and zigbee crashed and I could not figure out why
tigo refuse to recognize it
I had to buy a CCA to stop them scanning
Are you sure it wasn't just faulty units on your end?
and they scan from they get pwoer
Any other people have this issue?
Like if it were that bad you would reckon there would be lots of complaints??
@late gate I believe you, but I can't find any other people complaining, so not sure if its isolated to you?
on the norwegian forum several people complain, but its mostly isoltated to tech people
most solar is installed in non tech homes so they have no clue
@rare condor thanks I'll check out ebay
Although I'm not sure what shipping is like to wa
surely, there is a higher correlation of tech people installing solar (higher disposable income, more interest, more likely to own EV, etc.)
I Pm you some details
For the brit developers here
Are salaries pretty crap for developers in the UK?
From what I've seen on reddit they seem not that great
Obviously there's a spectrum
@hushed basalt just come to the proper country already
Norwegian average salary for a front end developer appears to have been $70k in 2017
Good thing about all salaries and taxes being open in Norway, you can guesstimate your worth, unlike murica where when I bring it up they go

This one breaks it down based on different types
Just Google translate it
Seems like it's similar to Perth
Although Perth probably has a lower cost of living
Why is it 10:00Pm I haven't even started on the frontend to this .NET application yet! 😣
Perths tech pay to cost of living is actually quite good
I heard you're water is terrible though, we have a lot of flow meters returned from Perth's Hard water
Yeah depends on the region

@scenic radish im surprised you went outside for that 😛 should've just used the stove 😛
Ehh, it was nice out tonight lol
Plus marshmallow drips are easier to clean up on a grill than inside
Whatever gets you off
ever since android 6 marshmallow came out i've felt no need to root
good times though, i remember using gravitybox to tweak some settings
Samsung
🤢
It's the windows vista of phone OSs
I just want pure untouched android
It's at the point where I either buy a new phone to get rid of this bloatware or root it
One of those options doesn't involve me spending $800+ and let's me keep my sdcard and headphone jack
@hushed basalt usually they ship whole containers, not a 4u shipping box though
What about like small outposts though
I have no idea though
Can't fit a shipping container in a blackhawk ammiright
Btw what sort of speeds have you seen on 8 bay hardware controllers with spinning rust
Sequential writes
Usually for spinning rust we say 180 iops per drive, versus 50-250k iops per ssd
Basically the reees on the homelab discord said you'd never need >1Gbit unless you had ssd storage
And I said I've seen hardware raid DASs saturate 1G speeds several times over in 8 bay hdds
I think they just couldn't comprehend that a high quality raid controller in raid6 could see over 100MBytes
Yeah this was in sata but WD golds
Also, 8 bays? What is this? Storage for ants
Thunderbolt DAS desk mounted
It was even 8 x 2TB too :D
Maybe it was SAS I can't remember
The controller definitely supported sas
Only video people who do local drive still are the close to death guys, everybody else just works on the san
Yeah well this was an edit suite
With 250+ SSDs
When the camera footage uses 1TB/hour and you want to render in several times realtime
Still no issue with 32Gbit FC and 10Gbit to workstations
True
But we didn't even have a san then
Single workstation so not much point
We had 8G FC in the old suite ;)
From like 2008
Decommisioned in 2015 🤢
Or the leet guys that have a dedicated machine in the DC that has 40Gbit ethernet, or just 32Gbit FC and work over Nvidia RGS or similar
Lol consumer drives
Read up on 3par chunklets, that's a proper way to do data distribution and fault tolerance
Hdd prices are insane atm
Nobody buys HDDs anymore in the enterprise space
I would say 98% is SSD
Been like that since SSDs passed HDDs in capacity
How much is a 4TB enterprise ssd though
Some big number, but 80-90% discounted
But it's been a while since I saw 4TB
Mostly 8 or 16 these days
32 creeping in now
Why heavily discounted?
Because all hardware in enterprise is
And the more you buy or a competition is undercutting, the more discounts
I've seen SSDs sold with 99.5% discount
During covid downturn my old company would just undercut the main startup competitor
Because they're bigger and could ride it out while he was a sole operator
That is what enterprise hardware does every day
Undercutting on the initial sale, overpricing upgrades and expansions

Also licensing is the main money maker
Or support contracts
Support contracts is expensive unless you pay it up front, if you buy 5 years up front it is Hella cheaper than 3 years then two additional years
5 years seems to make the most sense
Enterprise gear should be good for 5 years in my unqualified opinion
But the other guy was undercutting first. Buying A level gear and renting it out at 30% market rate
I think 3 on laptops for the masses is plenty though
Right
Most enterprise gear lives for 7 year tbh
Because customers suck at migrating
I still have a customer with 4 generations storage all running
Each one was supposed to replace the previous one
@wet pilot all products in Norway are 3 year by default, but usually vendors match the Norwegian automatic policy of 5 years
Yeah IPv6 really hasn’t rolled out here (UK) at all
Most ISPs in Norway have it, but only if you use their router
Which I haven't done for close to 20 years
Many universities are full ipv6 stack already though
But I haven't seen a single customer outside of universities that even run anything ipv6
atx you ever finish a guitar before?
Yeah, I got platinum in Stratocaster, but only gold in Les Paul
Got all the achievements
I love natural wood Stratocasters
I think itll look good
few funny spots that might be wood filler but it wont ruin it
I have this finish on mine, I like it https://images.app.goo.gl/nQfK8XjPaDFgcof48
oh yeah thats nice
But all wood with oil is definitely prettier
mine might not be lol
Noice
and I dont like a black pickguard
K8s doesn't even support dual stack
Pathetic!
Easy, just get @scenic radish to configure it!
😦
altibox still uses 6rd, so not real ipv6 imo
I've tried getting ipv6 to work with Telenor, no go with pfsense or opnsense so far, but with the default router it works
Yeah, getting IPv6 to work is something that concerns me about switching to OPNsense
Got too used to it "just working" 😄
well 🤔 you are old and grumpy
Old, not grumpy
if your old == grumpy
I resemble that remark.
To be fair, I've always been grumpy
Of course I often out do people 10 years my younger
well me too ... so lets have a whiskey and let the youngens fight it out
🤣 but we can afford to buy more while the youngens are broke
We should probably wait about 30 minutes. I don’t touch booze before 9:30 am
As the song says, it's 5 o'clock somewhere
There is a bar where I used to live named that. Thought it was very clever.
Bar near me was called the Office
Ooooh, there was a bar at my college called the library. They had shirts that said, “if mom calls, tell her I am at the library” 🤣
All good stuff.
Hey has anyone heard of tracksolid, i've been using it since Automatic announced they are stopping their service.

i was thinking i would fly out to @clear ferry place but dont know if i could take the city life and his/its short skirt

I know right. @clear ferry getting a little racey with his emojis. I for one like it
Dancing frogs 🤢
You like it
For some odd reason I am partial to the rear end of female emojis over dancing frogs. I don’t know. Call me crazy 🤣
I can’t even see that last one on mobile

So, yesterday I made the decision to re-define my flower beds. Decided I wasn’t going to do it without the proper tool. Went to the local tool rental place and rented a bed-redefiner. Worked great.
@clear ferry did you have a good birthday?
Yes, had my catheter emptied and was rolled over to my left side

How many more computers are sold over all now compared to ... whatever year this was started - luckily this time it's a video and not a GIF, so I actually can go back and check the range ?
Hold on, let me get a pen and I'll tell you in a few minutes.
nope
that is english
it occasionally does things like that
but if i shift-f5 it fixes it
Because it looks like a case of missing translation strings.
I was just about to suggest a cache refresh, yes.
Weird that it happens more than once, though...
probably because i'm running it on a raspberry pi 2b and sd card
Maybe, but I doubt it.
Well... that's either a #frontend-archived or one of the install method channel topics 😉
Hi everyone
I've come to ask about whether there's a potential issue in this ghetto sounding idea : a wireless keyboard duct taped to a wall, with the dongle in a raspi, which has macros so that e. g. the Q key sends a command through the LIFX API or other smart APIs
As far as I can tell this would cost me about £3 and is probably the cheapest (even if crazy) way to have a working "smart" light switch for my A60 🤔
That sounds horrible
course it is, so's paying £40 for a "smart button" tho
for the record the keyboard would be recessed, and just a numpad
lol? shake 😄 was'nt aware
I think there are different versions. With or without gyro
(based on a quick search on Ali)
There are
i have like 10 of the round ones around, just thourght that the square ones where the old ones
Makes no sense to shake it though as it is glued to my wall
shaking something that's glued to a wall is how you separate the worthy from the unworthy. 💪

Blerg. I hate that my table saw doesn't use standard miter rails, and uses those crappy tabbed miter rails. :/
Hey all, I'm struggling with home assistant, I think because I don't know shit about linux really. I'm just dipping my feet in the virtual box waters, docker sounds super cool and i'd love to learn more about that as well. What's a good place for me to start so I can learn some linux fundamentals?
NO HOME ASSISTANT SUPPORT HERE (look at the other channels for that). NO POLITICS OR RELIGION!
BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently.
any particular distribution or does it matter?
Doesn't matter. I recommend though one of the major distros. Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, etc. You get more of a feel for it if you run it as a Desktop, and use your Terminal application a lot.
Sure, sounds good. And then there's also IRC, or there is an Linux discord as well.
For you to ask questions. Just always remember, have a question, not ask to ask a question. 🙂

I know, right?!?
But, ugh.. Also, when buying a table saw, make sure you verify they don't have crappy miter slots. LOL
lol, I hear that. Tools i'm pretty good at, linux not so much.
but I do not have a table saw yet
Heh. I'm trying to make sleds for my Ryobi RTS12, and it's proving more difficult.
So, I'm going to end up taking apart the miter gauge and mounting THAT onto the bottom of my sled, so I can use the sled to make a better wood-based rabbitted thing. Though, I probably should just buy a router. LOL I have a router capable table. LOL
I’m just about to use my router for the first time to cut some foam for tool organization
heh
Hmmm... My curiousity has me, should I get a regular router, or a plunge router? LOL
I would say regular to start. I just got a cordless Milwaukee for now.
Cords are so annoying, especially on a router.
heh.
Or a jigsaw
Well, don't mind coorded for me. Since I do all my wood work in my garage, or out in front of my garage. 🙂
My work table also has a mount for a router. Husky table which is actually impressive., 🙂
Oh yes I’ve seen those with detachable legs right?
Yep.
Those are pretty slick
Pretty freaking solid. 😉
I have that, combined with a Ryobi 10" table saw, Kreg rip-cut jig, which I'm trying to affix to my older Ryobi 5 1/2" circular saw, coordless on that one.
Are smart electricity sockets a thing? Don't think I've ever seen them
Specifically not smart plugs but actual sockets
BS1363
Assuming you wanted "smart plugs" you'd need to buy a smart plug for every single socket, which doesn't look awfully clean and technically would cost more
But if you skipped the middleman...
Are you talking outlets?
Or, receptacle?
For example, this https://www.leviton.com/en/products/DZR15-1RZ (NEMA style)
What would be the difference?
Not sure what NEMA is but that looks like it would work
I think we are talking U.S. plugs vs. European maybe?
NEMA plugs are the USA outlet format, also used in Japan, and a few other countries.
I have some leviton smart switches and they are great
@arctic wren linuxserver.io is a good first introduction to docker
Well maintained stable images with eli5 documentation
Digitalocean have great general linux systems tutorials as well. They're geared to running stuff on their VMs but it's all transferable
Stay away from discord linux, it's all neckbeard "elites"
Heh. I dunno about that latter statement.
I recommend moving to docker-compose rather than docker run sooner rather than later.
They just seem to be more keen on the SJW scene.
Personally... I recommend killing docker. Brutally.

I like Debian...
Debian is okay. I just hate the .deb format. 🙂
Why, the deb format is easy! It's just an ar archive with some files to define what is what!
From the cli, 🤷🏼♂️, they are basically the same.
The repository for .deb is even worse. LOL
it's more the PROCESS of making packages, and repositories.
just stick with windows and make your life easier
@forest edge , is like the guy who delivered palates of bricks to every major city. 🤣
To be fair, it's fairly easy to make rpms etc, but once you figure out Debian packaging, it's handy enough. I will give you that Debian does need something like createrepo for a easier method to create repos 🙂
I do like windows for some desktop stuff, but after installing Debian on my desktop I wouldn't go back
Debian desktop, you sick barstard
Heh
Do you drive a 2003 volvo and eat gruel for breakfast
I do like windows for some desktop stuff, but after installing Debian on my desktop I physically can't go back
@scenic radish fixed
@strange vapor Nor do they give you a decent method to mirror repositories. for standard repos. Either.. Which is a nightmare in specific company settings.
Probably a better desktop option tbh
@undone aspen I've setup caching mirrors for Debian a few times, it wasn't hard at all.
But after using Raspbian server and regular Debian server for 1.5+ years I wanted to stick with Debian when installing it in my desktop
Extremely boring and stable isn't necessarily what you want for a desktop
Heh., I switched from Fedora to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu desktop is fine. Server not so much
Windows spyware isn't great though
But I'm a glutton for punishment and run fedora server
anyone who nit picks linux flavors that are based off one another is a tard lol
Between chrome and windows I might as well just post my dns requests on Facebook
Fedora, and "server" just doesn't f'ing work. Or mix well.
Eh, just upstream rhel
Not.... quite.
I mean, yes, RHEL uses some parts of Fedora, sure. But there's a LOT more involved in Fedora.
@hushed basalt you have a choice to encrypt that lol
When the desktop is compromised dns encryption won't do anything
huh?
Hmmmm.. I just noticed my saw horses don't have saw grooves. 🤦♂️
@hushed basalt DoH, look it up. heck it's baked into chrome as is
Can you set it to cloudflare
set it to whatevver you want
And if chrome is sending metrics from the browser anyway
I don't think it's what you think but igcognito dosen't send shit

#SeriousQuestion. Is it illegal, immoral, or otherwise unethical to throw away the Oreo cookie and just eat the Birthday Cake cream? Asking for a friend.
so the shell command integration is pretty cool. you can basically make your own custom service call with optional custom service data. my TV's auto-brightness control is way too dim even on High, so i made a shell command that uses a pyvizio command (which is included in home assistant) to automatically enable/disable auto-brightness control. this is the shell command:
lr_tv_brightness_ctl: "pyvizio --ip=10.0.2.46:7345 --auth=auth --device_type=tv setting picture auto_brightness_control {{ level }}"
``` and here's the automation: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/QnYMNhNmDx/
Simple answer is Yes! shell_command supports templates. That’s all there is to it.
If you use service_template, you can even call shell scripts dynamically and pass values dynamically as well.
How do you like Costco? Any first impressions?
Not sure your Costco is same as the one in the USA. In the USA, they are Yuge!
Was there 3892378293 people inside?
Yes - they are always busy.
Plus everything perishable once opened seemed like a waste
Like 1L of nandos sauce that has to be used in 3 months, but would probably take 2 years to get through
One thing is that they only carry good brand stuff, and quality is good.
Costco needs to implement a ceiling stun gun that zaps the crap out of anyone that stops in the middle of one of the main isles to check their phone
Need to go back there when it's quieter during the week and spend a bit more time
Was pressed with the toddler getting upset and crowds and free parking about to run out
Yes. They are useful for large families. Some quantities you can’t possible eat before expiration unless you have a big family or big eaters.
See if the have the Aussie bites at your store. That would be funny
Plus may just be this particular store but the staff were very poor
Probably about 2/3rd of the food there isn't an option to our household due to allergies do that's a bummer
Costco is WAY better than Sams. I have membership for both as sams is very close, comes in handy. But I prefer Costco during less traffic hours.
Hmm, Costco in the us is probably one of the healthier warehouse stores. They have all kinds of gluten free and carb free stuff
The beef wasn't good their either
It was all grain fed as if that's a positive
"Minimum 100 day grain fed" brandishing
They have the best bakery. Their cakes are awesome too!
Street tacos also. We eat those like twice a month 🤣
Through instacart in the us but it ain’t cheap
Depends on the area you live in, Costco brings more “local” options.
Minimum $35 I think. Then you get free shipping with Instacart. No extra fee.
@last plaza I know that, I was just sharing my excitement haha. But thank u
Their prices are different also
I think it might be like $700 minimum order
Or something like that
Should order $700 in toilet paper
700.00. Errr.....who is buying 700.00 worth of stuff
Australian dollars... not sure what they are worth in freedom money. I know it is not a big number in the USA.
I ordered with free shipping - I think you need to have minimum order of $35 or $45. Only did it during covid. I prefer walk-in and pick what we want.
Yea, we did it during covid and averaged about 300.00. Then last week my wife and I went into the store and went crazy and was like 240.00. I think the instacart prices are inflated.
Every time I go in my small car, I find something big that can’t fit in my car!
Like I said, commercial quantities
A lot of small businesses buy from Costco. I see them all the time - the quantities they buy, cannot be for personal/home use.
Not everything is commercial quantity. Definitely tough if only you and one other.
We got the executive membership- whatever that means!
Lower prices I think
Probably paying more for the same crap
I just got the basic membership
They say you get more cash back if you are a regular user. And we are.
Their fruits and vegetables are usually much better than our local,grocery also
I don't think Australia has tiered membership
It's $60 for normal and $55 for business
No special perks for either afaik
You will get cash back, that you will save enough money, you don’t have to pay for membership the following year, and you still get some additional cash back.
The executive membership quarantees you save the difference in cost of membership through cheaper food prices or they pay your executive membership the next year
lol
Jinx
Sounds like Kohl’s cash 🤣
What are those? Next time, I’ll get a pack. Let me add to my shopping list.
I posted a pic a while back. You weren’t impressed. But they are good.
Yes
What are american bites
Kids don’t eat them 🤣
Although I like flax seeds, and omega-3 stuff
@hushed basalt , that’s what I want to see. If they have them at your store
What are american bites
@hushed basalt tripple cheese burger with 10,000 calories and a Diet Coke.
That is for each bite.
I made cheeseburgers last night
Supermarket mince was sub par though
Plus gluten and dairy free brioche buns are meh
Will need to get a meat grinder
This is called heart attack burger. This is real.
There is another burger, that will help with delivering babies if you are pregnant.
Missing a fried egg
I like both.
How many 1/3 pounds are in that burger
Will have to see if they have an upgraded size with 1/4 pounders
There is a labor inducer burger. https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/wellness/story/restaurants-labor-inducer-burger-pregnant-women-running-doors-65978731
Here is a burger for you
https://youtu.be/z4L2E6_Gmkk
That’s a made in China burger 🤣
Is that even a burger at that point? It’s like Chicago style deep dish pizza. You rarely taste pizza in it.
Giordano's
I wouldn't recommend any pregnant women to eat food that has a chance of upsetting their stomach
Last thing you want to deal with during labour is IBS haha
Tell that to women here! 😂
Customers over 350 lb (160 kg) in weight eat for free if they weigh in with a nurse waitress before eating.
That is both hilarious and sad
I think it is some sort of population control scheme by liberals 🤣
some here say starting a protest during a pandemic was a form of population control...
Wow...
well over a dozen people have died and the covid positive numbers have spiked 3x since the start
don't think i would want to live in Minneapolis right now, apparently they are abolishing the police and replacing them with glorified mall cops
Am I wrong, or is there no way to stop an alarm on a Google home without talking directly to the alarmed google
Or tap it
:/
Super annoying when a countdown or alarm goes off in the other part of the house
HEY GOOGLE SHUT THE FUCK UP
"there is no music playing right now"
Okay google, turn off power to the house
I had to set an automation for my chromecast to turn off the tv when idle
For some reason google thinks an infinite screen saver burning power and pixels is best practice
The TV itself is way better at it. All the apps will go to a literal screen saving screensaver after a few minutes of idle and then eventually turn the tv off
I only got the chromecast for Spotify and chromecasting
Oof, that's annoying
In my brief time using a Roku I discovered it doesn't stop whatever media you're playing when you turn off the TV lol
Even if the TV supports HDMI-CEC which mine do
@scenic radish yeah you don't really turn a roku off though
it's playing or not
it would be cool it the TV could send some stop signal
Sure, but you'd think it could detect when the TV is off with HDMI-CEC and stop playback
The tv does send a signal when it wants to shut down
hmm. is that a standard thing?
I feel like hdmi-cec implementation is all over the place, but haven't been through enough tvs to know
Either way, the Roku could probably poll the TV for its status even if the TV doesn't report its state
Should be a standard thing
if it's a roku streaming stick it will stop when you turn off the tvv when you use the tv's usb port to power it lol
all the options!
Simaltaneously.
Nice! Mine only has USB - and I haven't even set it up yet. Not sure if I should set it up on my NAS then get my NAS to tell my HA server to shut down, or the other way around.
You could consider an old rpi as the network UPS controller
More things to hang off the battery backup is not the goal 😛 The UPS I have only has 3 battery-powered ports. Already pushing it with that 😛
Same with my old one
But I just ran 2 powerboards out lf those
An rpi1 would last like 2 days on a UPS though.
And since it's the last thing to turn off you can have the other servers shut down sooner and let the rpi stay up until the battery runs out
To give you a longer window to come back up
Depends on if your servers will come back up with power restore or need a WOL packet
I'll need to look into it more myself
Damn straight
See i'm thinkin g about you.
Here’s a song for you… Asshole by Denis Leary
https://open.spotify.com/track/5i0BBU8OZdD7EkYeA5WrSq?si=25FBHMvOQLqu1IyWk_fNSQ
is that lincoln
I am still looking for a decent UPS, I would bring one home from a customers, but they are all 3phase 400v 30u+ mostly
Yeah that's a bit big
don't you people just put old cars on blocks with no wheels and hook the engine to a generator and use that as a UPS? lol
Better
Here lies badtelcotech, who ran his ventilator on random gumtree UPSs
Did a very quick load test but haven't had time to test it properlt
I can't find any of my IEC to IEC cables
Network card should be very cool though
If it's a dud I can take it back though
Jeysys Chreist I hate group policy objects in windows
I hate
group policy objects inwindows
FTFY
create new policy then gpupdate /force and do a gpresult /h c:\temp\result.html and IT'S NOT THERE YOU MOFFAFOFFA
HEEERE'S GPUPDATE
My work just paid me for a server i sold and invoiced them 2 years ago lol... Not worth $600 now but got paid the full $3k I invoiced
I left 8gb of ddr3 sodimm in an old work laptop
I should try to get it back, but.. ehhh
I don't have any use for it right now, and it'd be awkward
Even though I could probably sell it. Sigh
Maybe there's a good reason for it
But it's strange these UPS brackets are the cage nuts
And don't mount over the rails
that looks pretty normal to me
for ups rails
usually the middle hole would be where the UPS attached to the rail to keep it in place
plus a cage nut one u above or something
Makes sense
The guy I bought it off was a fellow homeassistaner
I've recruited him to the discord. He might show up soon
I don't even know the words to that song
Welp. Time to give this new zstick a spin
What's it like being a home automation guy in aus land? I hear you can't change a light bulb without a licensed electrician.
🤣
Funny enough it is illegal to do your own electrical work in Norway, however it is not fined, but you are in trouble in insurance cases
but all needed equipment and accessories are sold freely to everyone, at almost all general stores
They had to exempt changing a light bulb, to hell with that.
but all needed equipment and accessories are sold freely to everyone, at almost all general stores
@clear ferry
As it should be.
Says the guy who comes from this country 😉 https://www.businessinsider.com/weird-us-laws?r=US&IR=T#in-arkansas-you-cant-honk-your-horn-near-a-sandwich-shop-after-9-pm-2
I've done my own electrical work here a few times, but I've always got a friend who's a qualified electrician to sign off on it for insurance reasons.
And he DOES properly double check the work.
I am halfway trained as a electrician, but I swapped over to electronics, so I'm confident in my own work for now 🤣
will remove it when I sell the house
I've been trying to consolidate light switches. The previous owners over did it badly!!
Which makes automating lights more awkward 🙂
Wonderful, importing patches in WSUS uses a single core
I see it stopping at 25% CPU on a 4core VM
I'm trying to find some spray glue that has no odor after applying and drying
anyone used anything like that ?
There are some dumb laws here from long ago that nobody even knows about let alone enforces, I'm fairly sure they will destroy right now in Australia if they catch you doing any electrical they don't like. Of course they'd have to catch you which seems unlikely.
They'd never "catch" you unless there was an insurance claim
And insurance companies would lovvvvveeee to not pay out 10,100 or 100s of thousands if they can say there's illegal work
Even if it's not the cause
I assume DIY electrical work is usually pretty obvious to insurance investigators
Looking at the original work in my house
I don't see how they could distinguish what I did from the shitty installjob in the 80s
Age of components/wiring :)
Pretty sure there's Year of Manufacture on most things
that is true actually
"this wiring was made 2 years ago and you bought this house 10 years ago, what is the contact information of the electrician who did this"
Then you slip some enterprise SSDs in his front pocket and say "keep the change"
🐡
I have a apple tv that turn on my tv about 90 % percent of the time. but 10 times it fail and I have to grab the normal remote for the samsung tv to get it on. Any suggestions on how I can make sure it turn on 100% percent of the time with help of HA?
My friend is an engineer
But playing factorio with him makes me seriously worried
Zero concept of scalable design, critical thinking, root cause analysis,
Monoliths and fragile dependencies everywhere
Rime of the ancient submariner ? 🤔
@hushed basalt been told by insurance inspector that as long as you did something really horrendous, you won't not get a payout because you did your own wiring of things.
as long as the insurance company cant prove what you did was bad they cant do anything, but of course its a risk to take. Norway got some strange laws where you can put on 25A outlets for ovens yourself. seeing how clueless some are a lot of people should never touch this kind of stuff
golden rules when wiring ....
- oversize awg of wire for circuit
- proper term's at each endpoint
- slightly undersize breaker compared to wire awg
never will have a problem ...breaker will trip before heating of terminations and or wire
Bigger number, smaller wire size
yes and?
for eu maybe ...i grew up with so makes perfect sense
well murrica is good with me
Wow. Watching this youtube video where this guy is making his own REALLY freaking amazing router table. And just the tools and mods he himself obviously made from wood. He's got... A wooden drill press.. Made his own pocket hole jig matching the Kreg one. Made his own Grr-ripper block for table saw and router...
so i guess ohms law doesnt make sense neither @clear ferry higher voltage == lower amperage ?
That's what you have to do to get AWG from diameter. I don't even know how you can argue that it's a good system
i never have to do that and i design and install electrical systems
@undone aspen there is such a rabbit hole of woodworking/shop channels on YT . It's not even my thing and I've watched for hours
hahahahahaha\
Okay, needing a conversion chart is also bad design
Indeed. This particular guy, is maticulous, thorough, accurate, detailed, even does metal. He's got his own ... Oh what is it? It's a saw that's on a track, can go up and down and left and right. His has his circular saw attached, wood backed with t-tracks in it.
I want his home-made shop! LOL
conversion for what need
For finding the actual diameter of a wire
never had to do tbh
Fricken plotter style stencil cutter even. LOL
I have to do that all the time
drilling holes in an epoxy case for capacitor leads. I can't just get a 20AWG drill bit
well i have done electrical work for close to 40 years ....building junction boxes ...circuit panels and etc ....never had a problem tbh
Just because you've never had a problem with it doesn't mean it doesn't have problems 😉
People do business data analysis for fortune 500 companies on excel
Doesn't mean they should
really your debating ohms law
No I'm debating your analogy
The relationship of V to IR compared to AWG being bigger for smaller conductors
I don't get it
i am simply saying we use awg and we are fine with that .... i am also ok with whatever anybody else wants to use .....one is not better than the other
well quality of the copper is better lol
But american standards are too easy to make fun of
I guess subjectively some people like to make things more difficult on themselves
How many quarter pounders to a gallon?
really @hushed basalt .... i never did that of any other standard
what kind of question is that?
how many atx does it take to screw in a lightbulb type of question?
Only 1 to screw in the bulb but 1 to flash the firmware and 1 to take it back to ikea and claim it's a dud when he screws it up
🤷♂️ didn't work when I opened the box
if it makes you feel any better @hushed basalt our school tools like rulers etc generally have metric on them as well, same with products of liquid with litres and so forth. we just kind of over look those marks lol
There are much easier and widely used conversions to mock. Feet in a mile, inches in feet, ounces in pound, tsp to tbsp to cup
pretty much... all of them
funny how 12 inches became a "foot" when most people's actual feet were generally nowhere near that big lol
shoe sizes was always the messed up measuring system to me
and if you are a woman with wide feet, forget about going off the numbers lol
EU Counties did that not us
Initially, the Romans divided their foot into 16-digits, but they later split it into 12 unciae (which in English means ounce or inch). ... In the United States, a foot was estimated to be 12 inches with an inch defined by the 1893 Mendenhall order which stated that one meter is equal to 39.37 inches
I don't think Rome was part of the EU 😉
close enough for murrica
on same side of pond
@clever mortar was there he can tell ya ..... even the term worth you wieght in salt comes from there
lmao TIL the actual definition of 1 inch is 25.4mm. So our standards are based on metric
