Fibre area is newer though
hence the small blocks
Yeah
But it means the houses have better codes
So less work uphill to get them performant. In theory
Also depends on what's around you. We moved from large garden to small garden, but nature is just a few minutes walk away
Although solar gain in winter is probably harder
does WA have an energy efficiency rating
Generally narrower blocks in the newer area
I think 6 is the highest here
Required
its all different scales
And they usually bullshit that anyways
Play around with their calculators to massage it however they like
I think ours is a government body that inspects but I really dont know
we are small so easier to do
I think it's all just simulations self regulated
either way you sound like you know what you are looking for in terms of efficiency stuff
An imperical test would be blower door testing and IR cameras
Can't fake those
If I move to a copper area i could be stuck with a 25mbps service for decades
:/
Labor has made it clear they're not going to roll out fttp
Morning.
Afternoon
(:
Need to send my laptop back
Coil whine is the worst
If I wanted to hear an annoying buzz when I'm trying to work I would just listen to tediore on the voice channels
Tediore is a man of Boosting his mic.
Apperently I get a TS100 as birtday present from my wife.. now she's asking me wich one. do you know a durable one?
Is that some kind of terminator
Yes, the Koala Squasher 5000
I bought three different ones
TS-D24 \ TS-BC2 \ TS-I
TS-K \ TS-KU I don't really see the use of
Pics?
Why chisel? I think Iโve only used conical
Chisel gives more contact surface.
And a flat spot for pushing smd components around.
Ah okay
I like D24.
Hey guys, the feature in discord to invoke something , is there a name for that?
prefix?
They're used to invoke bots
speaking of ts-100, how are you guys grounding yours? do you always use it some place with a nice piece of grounded metal or do you just not ground it? heard if you don't it could fry lots of things.
Teams is a horrible application
If I wanted to hear an annoying buzz when I'm trying to work I would just listen to tediore on the voice channels
@hushed basalt ๐
When I'm very worried, I just wear a wrist strap and touch the grounding screw every now and then. But most of the time I don't worry.
@ocean mirage my crude sketch
But look at the contact surface area between the two, and imagine where the thermal centre mass is of the iron tip
Also that conical point extends in 3d as well, so it's even worse than the 2d sketch makes apparent
The conicalchisel is much better at holding on to a solder blob too.
I do mean chisel
Oh cool thanks for the sketch
Grounding soldering irons ?
@rain swift you have to be very conscious if you want your soldering iron to be grounded or not
There's pros and cons for both
I have never done that in 20 years, I do wear ESD equipment when I work on very fragile stuff
but not for everyday soldering
I recommend ESD protection in general
It's cheap insurance and you can't see the damage without an electron microscope and knowing where to look
Mostly only when I work on audio stuff, that is 10-50 years old tbh
for my diy projects I never wear ESD
I debur most stuff actually
What is an esd
Electrostatic damage
@clear ferry but the ts-100 isn't grounded and the iron itself can kill components.
no iron I have ever had has been grounded
even though it has a 3 prong plug, it apprently isn't grounded at the tip.
Doesn't it have a grounding attachment
it does
I was asking how people ground theirs lol
the hakko's are ESD safe so I assume those are grounded.
I've had... probably 15 irons over the years, in various price classes, never had ground
that doesn't mean you weren't damaging components un knowingly lol.
except the one I had at school, that was $40k
thats like saying I never check my blind spot and i've never been in an accident.
Measure the tip to the ground point with an ohmmeter
It will most likely either be <5 ohm or >1M ohm
A hard ground will trip your RCD device if you hit a live mains circuit
A soft ground won't trip a circuit but will protect you from ESD somewhat
No ground won't do either
If the tip to the grounding terminal is hard ground and you don't work on live mains circuits I'd attach it to an ESD point
If it's soft ground I'd attach it directly to real ground
hello flashbacks to 2001
who solders stuff on live mains circuits?
Lol, i've done it
someone who really hates their home life lol.
Sometimes a band aide is easier than making a new one
Well it's more capacitors you have to watch out for
tis but only a small shock
so the general consensus I get is that even though the iron comes with a grounding wire, nobody uses it LOL as for a different power supply, I'm not sure if that would work since the one it came with has 3 prongs, I'd be all about buying a laptop PSU or something and not needing the ground wire at all.
I don't know, I've soldered for 20 years, all stuff I still use still works, I'm not worried, but I use ESD when working with old stuff
All the big laptop power supplies I've used are earthed
๐คทโโ๏ธ china
lol
muurrrica
eehh
also, I have never seen a grounded iron as said, outside of the $40k range
if batteries reliably exploded, we'd be better off in these protests
Measure the resistance
yeah, good idea
you all sniffing solder fumes up in here?
I tilt my head
Are there more than one ?
well yes but no
https://www.amazon.de/s?k=TS100&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
is it possible that it is open source hardware?
the question is whom to trust..
NovelLife, GoBuying, SainSmar or whomever
I bought it from aliexpress and going to flash it with the custom firmware is all I know
๐คฃ
I got mine from amazon with good reviews and flashed it as soon as I took it out of the box.
Yeah, the stock fw is stupid. Requiring a computer connection for parameter tweaking. What's up with that?
I got curious and measured the resistance between the ground connection and the tip. It's in the order of one ohm.
And it's not connected to the negative terminal of the DC jack.
Interesting that 5% of those who were unemployed in may are now back working in Norway
that is quite a positive trend
12% of the total workforce was registered as fully or partially unemployed
what is that? like 5 people?

Somebody clearly forgot that it's really the dogs doing the work, making sure the humans don't push the wrong buttons
Pigs (Three Different Ones) You say ?
Hmm, this looks interesting for automating stuff that only has an Android app. https://github.com/budtmo/docker-android
If I only bought crappy hardware that only had android apps
Does look interesting a lot of chinese apps would work without play services and would allow automations for these.
Yay! Finished hacking my Tuya Curtains!!!
I no longer have to stand up for such a heinous task! /s if not implied
eehhh.. --privileged ๐คข
@low harness so you're saying that ground cable isn't really needed.
@forest edge new firmware for the amcrest
No matter how many times I watch this, I still find it funny! https://youtu.be/YpLMnziTwCA I wonder if there is a real dead person in that coffin...
@steel urchin and what does it change?
It crashes more
and what does it change?
@forest edge new feature automatic upload of your camera feed to China.
That's not new
@rain swift I charge $240/hr to make an official statement on anything regarding ground wires.
@forest edge new feature automatic upload of your camera feed to China.
@last plaza sounds about right
lol - like that jim Carrey movie - where all Chinese sitting there and watching and putting bets
Like Truman Show, it would be Sonoma Show
not me @steel urchin . my shit is 100% local
I don't understand cyclist who go on social media sites to instruct everyone they have legal right to be on the roads and shouldn't ride on shoulders just cause traffic backs up behind them THEN proceed to complain about getting liquids thrown on them while they ride lol
cyclists ๐ก
Never thought of throwing liquids at bicyclists. Not that I ever do that... ๐
Maybe the car drivers care about the bicyclists so much , when it is hot, they throw cold water at them to keep them cool ๐
if you tilt the nozle of your window sprayer, you can aim it at them when you pass by
๐คฃ
"oops"
@light trout had a friend do that in 2002 with his Saab 99, he would drive past people and spray them
Am I losing my shit in thinking Home Assistant or Nabu Casa released a hardware appliance preloaded with HASS? A Pi or something?
I thought I remembered seeing something about that a while ago, but now I can't find anything
Cabu Nasa probably
I'd assume so but can't see anything on their site or in any press releases
Cabu Nasa exsists?
If only ๐ I was just rolling over that one
Starting to think I just made this shit up in my head tbh, shame it's not real (if it isn't) since that'd be pretty cool.
There's (today anyway) no such beast
How did it look?
What was the specs?
Ah, that's it, you came in a
from the future, where one exists!
Not the foggiest, I just thought I saw an announcement about it... Maybe I saw a suggestion for something like that and got it mixed up in memory ๐
Well cheers for clearing that up @clever mortar
There has been a few suggestions for one on the forums
For the last ... couple of years anyway
Gap in the market there eh, I bet a good number of people would be interested in a pre-built appliance, even if it's just a Pi 4 with HassOS installed.
I'd expect more an ODroid - SD cards die too fast
yeah, that sounds more right
Mm that's a good shout
you are thinking of Habitat or whatever the hell that thing is
Or homeseer
Good thing I'm not designing it
Hubitat, Homey, HomeSeer...
It would be 36U tall and run on three phase power
nah, it would be limited to 3rd world countries only then
USA it is then.
Like the US? Yes
we're 2nd world tyvm
I could probably get three phase power here, but the cost would likely be "interesting"
Really
All distribution here is three phase
So it is easy to hookup
We have it in the fuse box
Three phase is more of a commercial thing here. We have it at work iirc
220 split phase life
Yeah the air compressors are 230V 3 phase, just checked

๐ฆ
We only need one phase for 230V+ ๐
It actually may be 460, I'm not sure what the line is. The motor is rated for 230/460
I love that speech
@clear ferry your weird

I'm surprised they haven't yet
I've been in a movie theater three times the last 12 years
It's almost like you're not their most important customer
I don't go all that often but for some movies there is just not substitute
mmmm, steak soup for dinner
uhhh no clue @forest edge ... i had someone ring my doorbell for the first time in a few months and when i went to pull up the app it told me there was a new firmware
mmmm
sous vide?
i've always wanted to try sous vide, but don't have the patience
takes too damn long
i like throwing my meat on a grill and burning it for a few minutes
Partner just asked me what I was doing....
โsetting up home assistant to work out when we are at homeโ

no surprise at all what car lasted the longest
I heard Top Gear tried that with a Volvo 740 or so at some point, and they just couldn't kill it.
And the Toyota Hilux
Fifth gear ran petrol cars on diesel and visa versa, that was pretty good too
i plan on driving my scion (toyota) tC until it dies
at about 105,000 miles now, so i've probably only got 900,000 more miles left :/
Lulz
Highest mileage car I had was my Audi 100, it had 430000 km on it when I got rid of it
@last dirge looks ๐
I've not taken anything past about 150K miles
Last car gave up the ghost shy of 90K
@steel urchin my Instant Pot does Sous Vide
That is what I do in 4 years mostly
pull the steak out of the freezer, toss in some rosemary from the front flowerbed, a pad of butter, re-seal it
then in 2 hours, toss it on the grill for 60 seconds per cross-turn
Been grilling twice a day for almost 2 months now ๐
After 2 months going to have some chicken today.
ahhahah
mmm sous vide chicken
@last dirge what time/temp do you normally do for chicken breast?
lmao
lol
whole bird spatchcocked on the smoker at 325 until the breast hits 170
163 for me and rest for 10 min
i shoot for 165 in teh breast...in the sous vide though i normally do 155 for 1 hour
chicken wings 160 for 2 hours, then toss in the fryer
i make some pretty killer grilled boneless skinless chicken breast. coat in olive oil, season with salt and red/black pepper. still juicy and tastes awesome
man i started to make Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce...been puttig it on everything i cook lol
i heard avocado oil is great for searing
personally ive been doing chimney starter to sear steak
If you don't want meat to taste like oil then avocado or flax seed oil.
hmm
Both are neutral so won't lace the taste ๐
yeah see 2 hours i can't deal with ๐คฃ same reason i scalp instead of day trade... i have very little patience for things
Olive oil
Yep same here.
avocado and coconut oil are mostly what we use at the house... olive oil in a pinch
or grapeseed if we want to be fancy
Pff fresh olive oil while in the Mediterranean, nothing beats it
coconut is great but does not do well with high heat.
true, but most people cook on too high anyway ๐
Guilty.
any time i see someone cook, it's literally all i can do to not cringe and say "turn that shit down"
Extra short time but extreme heat all day for me.
Not if you prep right.
no i can't do that lol
This is why I dislike chicken. Always uneven and gotta flatten that crap.
i do like medium rare, but still mooing is not my bag
Then again, i eat raw ground meat and bacon

Raw bacon?
Nothing like steak with a good even crust, cultured butter basted for a few ๐
alright so i now have three /64 ipv6 subnets for my three VLANS... not sure if only 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 devices per VLAN will be enough...
yeah i kinda screwed myself over
At least we get a later curfew ๐
haha yea 9pm
it was like 96 here yesterday
14 today ๐
Happy birthday ๐
Anyone using a meater?
@tidal bronze https://discordapp.com/channels/330944238910963714/397426163649216512/715499879631159387
my ISP only lets me grab a /60 prefix instead of a /56 so i can only have up to 16 /64 subnets. stingy bastards
literally unusable
your gonna end up with a bunch of connections capped at like dial up speeds

Turns out my ISP gives me a /48 ๐คท
you separating all your crap.. well I say all as if that implied you had a bunch even tho we all know you are putting one device per vvlan
I could have a VLAN party...
will 65536 /64's be enough?
Not sure...
@scenic radish does it say in your ISP paperwork say somewhere that it supports ipv6 or did you just enable it on your router to check?
it should, he's running comcrap out of chicago which is one of thier data centers
i've had ipv6 enabled for a few years actually @unreal orbit
but since i can have VLANs now i delegated ipv6 prefixes to each of them
"since my router has bells and whistles i've enabled ALL OF THEM"
comcrap, lol. my longest outage i think has been like 5 minutes
i mean, yeah? if i'm gonna buy "prosumer" hardware i might as well use the additional functionality
@unkempt geyser you didnt get any readings from MAX6675? thats the one i use
No however I have noticed that my experience of readings between different k-type thermometers has been varied.
i can tell you for a fact that they dont last long
i repalce mine about every 3 months or so
they start to fray and you get Nan readings or very high jumps when they start to fail
i like that issue, got a lot going on there lol
@unkempt geyser outstanding ๐ Thanks for sharing.
can the friendly name be used in service calls? or only entity names?
.topic @viscid solar
@viscid solar NO HOME ASSISTANT SUPPORT HERE (look at the other channels for that). NO POLITICS OR RELIGION!

sorry
@unkempt geyser so plus or block?
Theyโre expensive donโt get me wrong. After buying the Plus and comparing it side by side with the block. Iโd have to say block all the way. After getting the single plus unit I felt a second would be useful while my rotisserie was spinning I could grill some steak. The block is ideal for this. Additionally with my Docker image Iโm currently testing itโs easy to connect up to 5 probes locally. If you want more just create another container ๐ I should add the block was a kind gift. Considering the price Iโd struggle to justify it but would likely have talked myself into it. Would I have liked to talk myself into having brought already brought the Plus. Not really. So in short. The Block.
Got it. I read about the gift. That was nice of them ๐
@clear ferry my electric bill is like $5/day lmao
@unkempt geyser I do grill a lot don't mind spending if it makes life easy.
It's always 2 different meats so.....
@brazen fable last month was $25, spent 2600kwh
I don't think I've had an electric bill under $80
I believe in living in comfort, my electric bill is way more
At which point with two you are two thirds the way there to the cost of a Block. Additional benefit with the Block is the standalone and WiFi capability and battery.
You guys and your freedom
go back to your exercise bike generator and further reduce your bill!
@unkempt geyser leaning towards the block as well.
I did own a bike, sometime around 2004
Almost but with a pink basket
Nah, I stopped riding it and it rusted over after being buried in 15 feet of snow
lol basket and little honk horn
how does it rust ovver so fast being buried in some snow? lol
chinesium bike lol
From his kwh usage i thinking he is generating for the entire city.
Over multiple years for sure, since I didn't ride it
all 20 people of it
@clear ferry typical, not taking care your stuff tisk tisk
Probably runs a heater in one half of the house and aircon in the other
Probably drying meat with the heater
Actually according to my power company statistics, I use 30% less than other houses of my size
what size is that ?
That can not be right
Lmao
you are probably the only person who leaves the windows open during a snow storm too lol

Sorry, don't do bald eagle units
it's just under 3k sqf
See
Leg of lamb is like wtf
lamb is a type of animal
Norwegians probably have some ancient technique passed down that require atx to sit infront of the meat with like one of those Ricola commercial horns and blow hot breath air over the meat to dry it lol
LMFAO
I was watching an aws tutorial video last night and it took me a minute to realise the guy was writing the lamdba in python
Trying to learn at 10pm isn't conductive
I'm like "wait this is Python, I know this"
@forest edge I guess that's how they do it in tiny remote villages. You learn something new everyday
Currently I'm in bed, and the house is powered down, I'm using 5kw right now
yea the hot air horn belonged to his great great great great grandfather who first settled in the area lol
Currently I'm in bed, and the house is powered down, I'm using 5kw right now
@clear ferry i knew it. you sit in the cold to save money!
I can imagine the meat drying smell all around the house.
Especially lamb meat
Alte Byeason did not settle, he conquered
Ok
The leg smells of nothing as it is placed in salt for a week before drying
That's like $12000 a year here in base load
@clear ferry your house power down done through an app or did you hook some fancy RF remote button up next to bed to shut the house down? lol
Let alone daytime consumption
@forest edge ifttt and smartthings you know
Atx's electrical consumption would cost like $25k a year here
just wait, one day he'll post a picture of him in bed and he'll be under a few layers of yak fur lmao
Its not for civilized parts of the world. @hushed basalt
Time convince the wife to move to Norway
Fibre and basically free electricity
Homelab here I come
there's a catch
I prefer 5 degrees in the bedroom, the wife prefers 18, so I just sleep on top of the covers
Run a 12 node cluster of 720s to run nzbget
No one comes near you as well
No one speaks to me here either :(
lol
the before and after is the same picture? lol
Yep
Sounds like my kind of place tbh
bad metric<->imperial conversion
It's nice
Awesome. Can dry meat in tandem @unreal orbit
I just don't do snow very well

Ok new question. Who is dangerously good at both math and Excel?
@chilly nymph hit me
Where they're allowed to come in close contact
Epic
they have to be blindfolded and told what they are touching is not a real person but a blown up doll
we are allowed, we just prefer not to

So much Norwegia bullying ๐ฆ
i know
They are bullies yes
if we didn't love atx, we wouldn't rip atx it's as simple as that lol
So I am trying to figure out what the most I can afford for a house is in every city in my state based on the total monthly payment. Which includes taxes, insurance, and p&I. The only three variables I have are the tax rate, insurance rate, and total payment I want to make.
In Australia it's when someone is being nice to you, you should be worried
exactly

Tax rate is different per town. Insurance rate is static @unkempt geyser
I have the dataset for tax rates though
@clear ferry don't cry too much, wouldn't want your eyelids to freeze open then you couldn't sleep lol
Just move to Norway@chilly nymph
And I can easily calculate what each variable would be if I had the home value, but that's the figure I'm trying to back into
@clear ferry I would actually really like that
Oh yeah? Well I can easily calculate what I'm having for dinner
I'm thinking this needs vba or a macro
Lol
@chilly nymph is this your primary or income property?
It will be my primary
Why would want to pick by price first ?
I should study lingustics
what the hell ever happened to "hey I like this house, i can afford this house.. let's get it!"
Seems like a much better way to learn your second language if you have a grasp of linguistics first
Figuring out if you can afford it is still complicated
I'm making a weighted formula based on home value to school district ranking and distance from my wife's and my work
Because a first home can be like 1000% of someones net worth tied to a single asset
Do you have that many in the market to begin with ?@chilly nymph
Preferring lower tax rate to a good school district
Word of advice: taxes change very rapidly. Our property tax went up 25% this year compared to last year, so give yourself wiggle room on that one
10x worse than no diversication in an asset
@unreal orbit yep that's the plan
every aspect of a house's area can change rabidly
I can't wait to own a house
A mortgage payment is fixed
can be the best school district than the states worst in a what feels like a blink of an eye.. seen that ehere first hand lol
(usually)
30 year fixed is standard here
2-17% over the past 30 years
Banks/reserve bank can just twiddle some knobs and control your disposable income at their whim
Fixed.
This is not my first home purchase. It's just the first I plan to stay in for over 10 years.
So what are you actually trying to figure out? What you can afford based on a monthly payment?
I have an excel sheet with the tax rate of every town in my state. I'm trying to back in to what the home value would be in reach town based on a fixed monthly payment.
If I was only trying to figure it out based on p&I that would be easy
Does the tax rate of the surrounding cities fluctuate that much?
yikes
Tax is not county based ?
Localities can tack on additional
Gimme gimme gimme
Pretty sure we wanted fixed and we could only get one thatโs fixed for a few years and then variable
In my state, taxes are based on the town. In some states it's based on county though
simply move ..... my taxes are based on acre's ....but be prepared need a good tractor and 5 hours to cut the grass LOL
@dull chasm did you buy the tractor yet?
Get an army of robot lawnmowers
no still working with JD dealer ...prolly in a couple months or so
im at the 30k mark trying to get lower

i dont need it till june of next year so i can make them sweat LOL
New fangled farm equipment
with all them software as a service and gps
satellite driven data acquisition
not at this size ....larger yes ....
Nothing like John Deer Green
there is JD and there is .....well not much else
Nice lawnmowers
now thats sexy ^^^^
@dull chasm ๐
i know thanks ..might need a go fund me ๐คฃ
You gonna automate it or what ?
yep with a budwiser
Lol
Did one little smaller than that about 3 years ago with way point missions etc. Was very interesting
there is no auto steer type functions on this
Rack was stepper driven was a test for irrigation with the sprayers.
are talking about same thing?
Looked the same no idea about tractors lol.
i can get a 200hp if you give me a donation
Can you pull a wheelie ?
with a load on rear sure
thats ^^^ a 200 hp one

@dull chasm boo john deer. case ih, new holland, kubota, claas, kioti > john deer. John deer's all about not letting you service your own vehicles. scam to the max.
O'DOYLE RULES!
@fathom sparrow I do my own service on my JD. Like any stealership, they want you to bring the vehicle in for service. I donโt follow my own rules, let alone JDโs!
Their pickup and delivery charges are outrageous along with their service charges.
Who would have guessed the demographic link between farmers and HASS users... ๐ค
Not me
Speaking of taxes and mortgages @tidal bronze @hushed basalt @chilly nymph we only have property tax in the two biggest cities I believe, and we have variable mortgage rates as standard, 25 years and 2.6% what I started at, currently I have 13 years left and I have 1.49% interest rate, and in that time my house and property has so far doubled in value
That's a great rate. I really don't think about property taxes. Pointless thinking about things beyond control. ๐
I do have a few mortgages but all are paid by tenants including 90% of the primary mortgage. Wife's in banking so rates are pretty discounted as well.
Nice. Highest rate I have is 3.15 I believe. Finance is not my subject to think or worry about. That's my wife's department ๐
I am actually clueless when it comes to bills etc. Never handled anything in maybe 18 or 20 years. ๐
We also have interest free student loans until we are done studying, then 2.1-2.4% after that
Although a certain percentage of the loan is converted to scholarship if you pass your exams
I think it was 50% last I checked
I forget it's an olympics year this year
it is. likely not going to happen
It's already postponed isn't it?
It's the fall Olympics
they're a scam anyway
My concepts donโt care about your facts
@hushed basalt like all it exams
Ms exams are only right if they are grammatically identical to the book
It's so bad because instead of devoting resources to learning concepts and methods you will actually use
You have to devote resources to memorising which api command is correct
Literally sometimes the options are like ...instance vs ...instances
Morning (afternoon for @hushed basalt

@bitter horizon depends on where you made changes. If you're only making local changes and you never make changes on github through the website, then you'll always be pushing. Otherwise if you make a change on github through the website, then you need to pull and merge your changes before you push. I suggest you use snapshots if you don't understand git. You'll mess it up (like we all have at some point) and you'll need a second backup to restore what you broke.
or you'll need intimate knowledge with the system to undo your changes
Hello there
I have Cielo Smart Thermostat
Is there anyway can I integrate it in HA
I found NodeJs for Homebridge that use websocket to connect the Smart Cielo website and fetch the data
I have tried to make one with python ๐ but without luck
Any Ideas? Or easy way to do it
Btw, the thermostat use ESP12-F
@fathom sparrow I understand git, but wanna know what approach others are using. Im thinking of doing like this. VScode client on local computer .----> push to github ----> HA pulls config.
You can also connect via ssh addon in vscode direct to server and dev there, but then you need to push from HA to github
Thinking of what bestpractice is
I mean, you're the only one working on it. The best practice is what works for you. In a real world situation you'd want to pull & update & merge before you push your changes.

but because you're the only person making changes, all you need to do is push as long as you don't make a change via another stream.

nothing like waking up to strong winds reorganizing stuff in your yard lol
apparently, it felt my downspout was better served in the neighbors yard
it also felt that my neighbors amazon boxes that had been on thier front porch for the last 2 days was better suited in the street lol
@fathom sparrow How to you mean, you can only push to git if you directly connected to the servers files. If you only push like i said then the server will not get the new files
you push, then make a PR on git and apply the changes.
commit*
then fastforward your master branch on local, which i guess is considered a pull
@fathom sparrow tried this one? https://github.com/home-assistant/hassio-addons/blob/master/git_pull/DOCS.md
no, i currently use gitkracken

usually git kracken because I don't have cli memorized

How many big macs to an cm?
3/8 of a gallon
When you work in an industry tha uses metric and imperial simulatenously
metric is good for small pc fan dimensions lol
and sending things into space
i hear "metric ton" alot too
In film and tv, distances are measured in feet and inches, film is measured in feet, but the capture size on that film is measured in mm and so are lenses
there are three different tons
those are some big girls
short, long and metric I think
2000lb, 1000kg and something else?
My least favourite part of imperial is that to go smaller than inches you start using fractions
So bad
math is hard
Fractions are for pizza
not fractions of 10 either, but 8...
makes my brain hurt when I try to quickly count what size it would correspond to in mm
thousandths, yo
1/2/3/5: 8/16/32/64
boom, it's base 10
Simple right
Quarter of an inch is about the smallest I'd ever say
Anything less than that is just insane to not use metric
Screen sizes are in inches here too and so are pipes and maybe some other stuff that I'm forgetting now
Three fiddy
damn loch ness monster
Just a whole lot of cognititve load for no gain

don't blame you
I don't remember if it was here that I saw this: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/76144/why-no-one-wanted-aws-third-pound-burger
clearly 1/4 > 1/3
It's interesting that most people have no problem realizing that 1/2 is greater than 1/4 though

@hushed basalt @unreal orbit @orchid rose that is where metric is more understandable even for imbicils, 400g is clearly more than 300g

I agree ๐ฆ
My job is hard enough without having to do fractions for capacitance as well as physical capacitor size
You say 3/32 as a joke, but a lot of our capacitor film measures width this way. We have 15/32" width film. And it makes me want to die ๐
and our specs are in decimal
fun times
It gets even more fun when everything is different. Example: 1/2" material with a 1.5mm margin with an expected extension of 1/64" and a final size of .562"
I don't joke I've seen those sizes
It is a struggle I have every day
@clear ferry happy birthday! ๐ ๐ฅณ

I do, but I did before so not much has changed
๐ข
Sorry - Iโm back. Are we settled on freedom units? ๐
fairly
read: extremely
it was attempted once
lol. Agree. I hate fractions too!
a lot of things have shadow converted
i simply don't understand why the US hasn't always used metric
I got wrench set that has 11/32 and 17/32 sizes. I donโt think I will ever use them!
yeah good point phnx
metric came out of France
speaking of which, where the fuck is my 10mm socket
magic'd away
Never where you need it
oh, metric came out of the French Revolution in 1799
here we go, this is what i need: https://www.amazon.com/10mm-Socket-Ten-Pack-Multi-Type/dp/B07F7LDYJF
You will always find it in the last place you looked.
so yeah, that makes sense
i'll take your entire stock
ok so anyone using a reverse proxy, how are you filtering traffic? i'm using NGINX but i don't think i'm using it to its full potential
it's nice that i can only access services via a domain name and access multiple services by only having one port open but that's all i'm using it for currently
I think that's all most of us would use it for
I use it at work for very basic file hosting
yeah, i guess i'm wigged out now because i saw one person post something like "if you're not doing any filtering in NGINX you might as well just have ports open for each service" which i don't agree with at all but i just assume other people are smarter than i am lol
but now that i think about it again that seems like a really dumb comment
Yeah that is dumb. Because it also gives you the ability to utilize subdomains effectively
exactly
Not to mention it would take forever to open all those ports
so
?????
would be my response
lol i should have replied with that
plus you need to know the specific domain name used to access the service
Yup, plus all your services should have their own authentication
I think you can also slap on basic http auth with nginx if they don't
cloudflare actually makes it really easy to tie auth to a service to your google account or another provider
that's neat
yeah. plus proxying your A or AAAA records through them... ๐
so pinging the domain name shows one of cloudflare's IPs, not my own
but yeah, i still use the auth provided by the services themselves in case something weird happens with cloudflare
you could have nginx forward auth requests to another service prior to passing through the proxy
yeah i might end up doing that at some point but i wanted to go lazymode and use cloudflare's option lol
@clear ferry today is your birthday?
tomorrow
oh snap, atx will finally be old enough to ride the bumper cars
nah he's like 67 now

kind of weird.. now that I think about it I don't think i've heard of the term, "hot scottish girls" lol
sweden must drown everyone else out over there
well have you?
Karen Gillan is Scottish ๐
talking about the term, you know like a saying
evveryone has heard about california girls etc
"California girls" never really made sense to me either as we are not a homogeneous population
it's a saying, just like sweden girls si a saying
just pointing out, i've neard heard one about scottish girls lol

@green inlet that was awesome lol
not that precise
I still laugh every time i think of the four socket pentium 3 machine I had to run NTP every two seconds on to keep it barely in time
Because Linux wasn't very fond of multi socket systems
Atleast no the version of Debian I was running at the time
Or the systems that had poor thermal regulation and would run faster/slower
Right, and a Russian accent gets the rise in the Leviโs well before a Scottish accent. Am I wrong.
woohoo

Cool. Now you can sit at home because of Covid-19 instead again ๐
it does seem to be far less infectious than it was thought at first, so hopefully it won't be too bad even after the obvious problems with lack of distancing
I wouldn't say "less infectious"
It infects differently. But not less.
I'd say fewer symptomatic carriers
yea id say numbers are low due to peopel staying home
don't think it's been long enough to tell
yea were still in wave 1
According to recent studies there are far less non-symptomatic carriers than the experts thought there would be, and the actions taken to limit the spread have worked far better than they were expected to
Do not forget this!
It's also far more deadly than the early estimates were

@forest edge the panic is entirely artificial thanks to the media and your elected officials.

Hi, does anyone live in Switzerland . Iโm moving there and wondering the apartment Iโm moving into has external metal shutters, does anybody know if these are generally zigbee?
I think these metal external blinds are used in other European countries aswell
I wanna buy some surveillance cams, so I would like to know how HASS can integrate with CAMS. Note that I haven't used HASS yet, I'm in the planning phase on which hardware to get. I will be also using a zigbee/zwave stick on it. Are there certain cams that are compatible? or does that actually depend on the CCTV solution? so far the plan is to use shinobi (http://shinobi.video) unless I get a better recommendation. I appreciate any tips, thanks.
@clear ferry yes I understand that, The cams will def support onvif/rtsp or else they can't be used on shinobi or other similar nvr. My question is can hass integrate with cams in the first place? e.g. motion detected -> take a x sec video or something similar. Sorry but I have no experience in hass at all
well, not integrate with cams directly, but the nvr
You may want to ask in #cameras-archived

@cunning epoch I'm from Switzerland, those metal shutters are usually manual (like a long stick you have to rotate a "few" times). Newer buildings might have motorized shutters though, but mostly "dumb" ones - I bought shelly 2.5 for them, as I couldn't find a zigbee shutter relay. Some windows are from velux (io homecontrol), which could be integrated with a special box, but I'm only renting and don't want to invest in something I might not be able to use in a different flat.
@forest edge hehe shit I always forget that everybody sees this
