Consumer, sheeple, gullible, take your pick
Nobody on this side of the pond would accept something like that, and probably it would be illegal by law
cool
Does anyone here have a mitsubishi hvac controller?
@clear ferry in america the stock market is more important than people π
ugh
I've seen that ;-)
Tesla proved that too
it looks like they forced the town to let them open after all that

Just completed my push mower oil change/service done. I need one more for my tractor, I am good with all the vehicles for this year.
what integration did you use?
ha
Elbow grease integration along with visual and audio alerts.
lol
oof, clouds are making my motion go wild
are you able to zone crossing?
I have the option of field crossing, but I rarely use it. I mostly rely on tensorflow.
tfftw
Yeah, I use TF through Doods on all motion detection. Makes a massive difference.
i use TF along with zone crossing
i use zone crossing to make sure teh subject is in an area that tensorflow works best
i noticed sometimes if the motion alert was too fast in certain spots it wont work
Is Doods a camera?
integration that uses tf
Doods is a TF integration
DOODS - Dedicated Outside Object Detection Service π
tf integration called doods
Runs on a remote host, rather than embedded in HA
Whoever came up with that name π€£
https://github.com/letsgetrandy/DICSS this is my all time favorite!
Does anyone have a link to home assistant terminology? I've been trying to find the basic definitions for words used in automations and whatnot.
I'm trying to figure out if a lot of the terms aren't specific to home assistant and rather to smart devices as I'm not able to find the basic definitions on homeassistant documentation
lmao that readme
@last plaza STONITH
skala loves DICSS
@last dirge sensors or entities etc. I'm not looking for you guys to have to explain everyone. If someone knew a website that I could get up to speed that would be awesome!
other than the docs?
I'm not having luck finding those basic definitions explained. If you say they're in there I'll give it another look tho!
You can disable link preview in Discord by adding < before and > after the URL, like this: <http://home-assistant.io/>
@clever mortar obviously this is exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks all!
skala loves DICSS
@scenic radish I love you! π
π€£
wait we have a glossary?

totally forgot about that lol
would you say you... glossed over it?
lol
honestly, it's not in a good place on the docs page
You guys
wow it mentions hassio lol
Yeah, just submitted a PR to update it a little
oof
I'm sure other parts of the docs will for another year or three
honestly, it's not in a good place on the docs page
@fathom sparrow what are you waiting for? π
there is a PR open to change that
@last plaza haha, I didn't say I had a better solution
Need to submit pr #2 you say

yea winks gone full cloud mode on us
meaning free cloud now has a charge
pay up or bye bye wink pretty much
Yes
Smarthings, Wink, Iris, they all eventually either have to make money outside the hardware or they go under as a liability.
Well Samsung is loving it now
Somebody winked at wink and wink decided to wink back at its users. So, users winked at wink, and we created a channel to win k at wink.
Wink: not free anymore, money pls
Samsung: it's free real estate
Yeah, $5/month or you have a brick
i still cant beleive they thought it was a good idea to give people a 1 week heads up lol
they extended it by a week but still lol
even 2 weeks is not nearly enough headsup
Because modern companies don't sell product, they sell "way of life"
Way of Wink for a fiver per month
popular theory is that they are on the verge of bankruptcy
Given how long they've been in doubt... I'm actually shocked they've not gone bankrupt sooner
wondering if this whole virus bs has caused their sales to drop and this is a hail mary
hoping that ~15% of their users stay on so that can turn a profit
And now MyQ are pulling out of the relationship with Wink
lol myq is just as bad arent they?
We ll see that soon π€£
Where would I post a "what the hell do these log errors mean?" Getting some weird behaviour but I haven't a clue where to start. Support: #general-archived?
No state histories and a lot of log errors. Maybe an SD card going bad?
BALEETED
Which DB?
DISK IMAGE IS M A L F O R M E D
home-assistant_v2.db
π
yea that one v2
There can be multiple dbs in /config
whatever happened to v1 though
Zigbee for one
@shy comet it didnt't have a version number
OK, I only had two and I assume ou weren't talking about the zigbee.db π
v2 showed up when the db format migrated
M A L F O R M E D
ah ok that make sense
during that time period we'd get DOZENS of people a day in here saying "hurrr my server is taking forever to restart"
oh yea for the migration lol
even though there was a gigantic notice at the top of the release notes saying "this will do DB migration when it first starts"
U N N O T I C E D
D O Z E N S
i wonder what percentage of users actually read the release notes lol
What a weird word
M U L T I P L E S
D I Z Z L E S
some people are like "ooh, new release, let's update"
B R O K E N
and I'm like "I'm 50 versions behind, I'm scared to update"
C O W A R D
S T A B I L I T Y
lol
also A P A T H Y
hey, it still worked great
then I updated and someone moved my cheese
several times
okay
So, SD card is toast?
dunno
are you sure hass is dead before you restart it?
or are you unplugging and plugging your pi in?
No, just restarting from server control
Ah, but that doesnt do it right?
K, BRB
how are you installed?
try nuking the database without the server running
however that works in the supervised world
And if that doesn't cut it, #330944238910963714
Mini PC
if I were in a zoo this would be on the placard outside my exhibit
so, how's the performance now?
less F R A G I L I T Y?
Lol, it actually just arrived
That did it! Up and running again. So, what's the issue with the db?
Something something something #330944238910963714
There's a few possibilities, including restoring a snapshot
OK, understood
can anyone recommend a water leak detector for HA?

I'm trying to figure out if I can somehow use my Logitech Harmony Elite w/HUB, which is already integrated into my HASS server, to use in node red automations...
Then off to #hardware-archived with you @tropic hedge π
wondering if this whole virus bs has caused their sales to drop and this is a hail mary

As of the 26th May Tuya are withdrawing support for IFTTT and in the process ruining smart home integration with companies such as Philips Hue, Lifx, Ring, Broadlink, Lightwave RF and any other Smart Home service provider... I have the fix!
... and no, the solution is not ho...
Don't mock IFTTT, if it had not been for that service, it's a good chance I would not have found Home Assistant
Eh. IFTTT is... So meh, though, so it's very mockable.
sure, and that's why I was looking for alternatives π
I jsut wish wyze would stop using that trash.
I left tuya on a smart socker I was using exclusively to monitor power draw
I didn't want to play guess the GPIOs plus calibrate the meter
IFTTT is an acronym for "Press button, wait long LONG time, have a coffee, shave, and take a light nap before anything happens"
Queue based automation :D
I see the Dr had already responded to Paul, should be an entertaining video. "2 baldy geeks do automatey bollocks"
In what subgroup should I post a question about light switches that stopped working?
Thanks
@wintry crow that man said bad things about home assistant π€£ not a bad video but I try to stay far away from the cloud.
As an Aussie though the Brilliant range is pretty good and very easy to tuya convert
We finally have a lot of stuff that is certified
Hahah he's right tho, ha does have a learning curve - it's not like a Windows pointy clicky thingy
Yeah thatβs true. Thatβs what makes it fun sometimes though!
Yup, hobbies are boring if they dont have an element of challenge tbh
no, I want everything to just work, so I can spend more time doing things than figuring out why things don't work. π
Yep @wintry crow we've been chatting. Marvel crossover coming soon!
I bought 168 tuya devices and am in the process of tuya-converting them, so far so good
@forest edge , knowledge is power.
Pro tip - after putting the string graphite in the packing nut, if you tighten the packing nut until it is wrench tight, you will ALWAYS, let me repeat that, ALWAYS, have a leaking faucet.
@tough igloo what firmware are you loading on them
Esphome works pretty well imo
@tough igloo any advantage to esphome over tasmota?
I find esphome horrible for anything rgb
It treats the white emitter as a seperate light
Plus all their stuff turns off at under 6%
this staying up all night and sleeping through the day is for the birds lol
lights are WLED, esphome is custom stuff, tamota is off the shelf stuff.
Pebcac?
PEBKAC ;)
Between computer and chair gives them wriggle room to blame the keyboard
lol my discord member list only shows green names.. like i walked into a cult or something
atx told me he started a workers revolution
Don't drink the Kool-aid
alright, i've officially moved off the raspberry pi 3 to the new server
pretty noticeable speed boost, nothing groundbreaking but definitely worth it
migrating was mostly painless
Nice
What server did you use
pandemic
@scenic radish holy crap that looks amazing
looks like an amazing low power plex / ha server
it's a nice upgrade from the 3B+ for sure
Very nice
reboots are quick and reloading automations, scripts, etc. and running the config check are noticeably faster
Much better than any rpi
throw ubuntu on it with live updates and I can forget about it
yup, running core on docker
yeah i'm very happy with it. screamin deal tbh
same pc?
ah there it is
yeah
i'm running it on an SSD and using the eMMC as part of my local backup solution lol
and rclone on a cronjob to back up to google drive
dam that thing runs super low power
Anyone have a recommendation for a power monitoring outlet. Zwave or WiFi. Doesn't matter to me. Would prefer cheap and reliable to bells and whistles.
The ones I know are homekit and... bluetooth π¦
Homekit wouldn't be terrible. But it's probably pricey....
39.95...
@brisk glen Yeah it does. Dat 14nm process
Buy 8 of them and run your own k8s cluster
Lol
I thought there were options from Eufy, Shelly, and maybe a few other things that can be flashed with Tasmota?
money is being redirected into ip cameras
I really just want it to trigger nightime automation when I plug my phone in. MQTT is fine.
some of the tp-link kasa plugs will do power monitoring, they work off of wifi
iPhone.
Speaking of assistants
Why the hell can't my tv turn off the screen from google
But I can do it from the voice command on the remote
why has google not canceled their assistant yet like google music? π
@hushed basalt do you have a chromecast plugged into it and HDMI-CEC?
On remote: turn off screen
Turning screen off
On google: ask LG to turn off screen
LG: turning up brightness
I want to turn the screen off but leave the tv running
For spotify etc
Nice spoke to my water company I can have a 12v pulse output added to my Honeywell water meter for $40, thinking 3 automations, over 500Litres a day triggers an alarm for excessive usage (water leak), display water usage in lovelace and turn off the lights in the bathroom when longer than 4 minute shower occurs. Might install 12v Alarm too so long shower are unpleasent
Where do I discuss rules?
I am not sure what there is to discuss about the rules, but here would be acceptable, I'd imagine.
Is there somewhere we can just lounge around and talk crap
sooooo..... I ordered a unifi g3 micro to replace the homekit POS.... I just watched a drug deal go down live via the camera and the homekit camera failed to record
maybe it was just hand sanatizer
I'm glad to see that natural selection is working as intended
@brisk glen sounds like you should move, a long time ago
Unfortunately people who help it spread can often be the ones most likely to survive infection
@clear ferry this is recent shit
Yes, you aren't adding to the pros

Hey guys, what is the best route to go to get an integration developed? I am using a python script to control my radiators using MQTT in HA but would love to have it as an integration so it's doesn't have to run on a separate device. I'm not a coder so I'd like some help to get things moving
I've touched it a few times in the past

OnePlus8Proβs Color Filter Camera can see through some plastic - https://v.redd.it/gbsjdfwsimy41
Damn π
That is really interesting
So software IR filter. That's cool.
I had a logitech webcam (you know the ball thing everyone had) that I removed the IR filter from. Could look right through half of my cellphone.

I wonder if that can also see temperature to some extent? I saw some years back a video where you could see the pin code someone had just input
This one
I removed IR filters from some cameras as well to do some IR headtracking, but never thought about trying it
I did however learn then that the floppy disk film is transparent to IR but blocks all visible light. That was kinda interesting
This is a new way for bad guys to steal your ATM pin code using an iPhone without you noticing at all BUT there is a really simple way to prevent it from happening.
MUSIC
All music created by j.ournal - you should go sub his video poem channel:
https://www.youtube.co...
The plastic is made to let IR from the remote through. That's at about 900 nm wavelength. That's very close to visible light, hence the need for a filter on cameras.
Meanwhile, the black body radiation from an object at 25 degrees C lies in the range 10 um. Far outside the range of any cheap camera.
But I think what the phone filter there does is, it uses the depth sensor which works in IR. Would it be possible for it to have a wide enough window to catch temperature radiation too?
I doubt it. We're talking four orders of magnitude difference in wave length. There are obviously sensors that can pick that up, but they are in a completely different price range and not something you throw into a phone just because you can. As a main feature - sure, see the various FLIR phones for example - but not to do something something else does better anyway.
Alright
IIRC fully exposed camera film makes a great IR filter, btw. Speaking of things noone remembers.
Yeah I think that was one of the options for these mods that turned webcams to IR cams. The other was the floppy disk film.
The email was wink throwing shade at Chamberlain, it wasn't an email about the new pricing. I added it here because I wasn't looking for advice, but rather to poke fun at how ridiculous they are for sending a message like that in light of recent news
I find it weird my camera will detect an insect like 6 ft away but won't detect a squirrel
If the squirrel blends in, the pixel difference might not be much compared to an insect with contrast. Unless you use PIR, it is ever going to be accurate.
Except spiders. Spiders are cool because they eat the other bugs
Spiders on camera is not fun. They make webs and thatβs the most annoying thing. My NAS goes crazy saving footage with spiders crawling and making webs. Cameras lose focus as well.
spiders are bigger than squirrels though so it picks them up too
On a side note, if you use bug zappers, be aware. Only 4% of all bugs is biting mosquitos. If you have bug zapper, you are killing more good bugs than the bad insects like mosquitos.
don't get me started on pir's, mine is currently detecting the dust blow across the surface of the moon
lol
quad farted in California and my pir detected the temp change
That would cause global warming.
Also turns out cow farts are more dangerous than originally thought
I read something about that
No more loud speeches! π€£π€£π€£
so now when you tell someone to shut the fuck up your doing it for the health of the community lol
Whispering brings people closer, violates social distancing practice. Being loud causes virus to stay longer! Wtf???
yelling generates more heat. Heat creates the virus, virus stays out in the air longer....
SCIENCE! /s
Sign language. But don't wave too hard, or you will fan corona infected air at people.

Just adopt the nordic culture and don't talk to anyone.
yup now most interactions will be done online and when you meet and want to date a girl you'll have to provide covid papers to the father and will have to be tested at dinner and the movies and even the overlook parking which will have a curfew of 9pm
@orchid rose we nod to people atleast
Sounds scary to me
why are there not more zigbee water/irrigation timers
Tag the mods.
quickly
But
i can make it easy for ya.
Btw, wasnt ikea making that?
Is this a philosophical question to ponder throughout the day ?
FYI, IKEA has released a new Zigbee based electronic dishwasher shutoff valve and water leak sensor combination product named βKnycklanβ. It is now for sale in Sweden however I have no information about availability in the rest of the world. Also it so far officially only wo...
@green inlet i have one for you
What does your name mean?
If a tree falls in the woods?
It is my dj rap star name
That product doesn't seem to be here yet but it might do the job
I am not but thanks
Also:
What you can try
If you have a pump, add a osram outside socket
and make that turn on the pump
hence water.
Or go big and use z-wave.....cause z-wave
I don't currently have a way to do zwave but if it comes down to it I guess Ill have to
but ill wait and see in a bit
I am not really following but ill cross that bridge when I come to it
noooo i can't override the rest 30 second poll rate!
I stole it.
@fading zodiac Iβll take cash or checks π
I kept the documentation up to date. Let me know if you run into any issues.
@cloud dock could you give an example of a fast arm machine competing on the same pricepoint as x86?
@modest smelt rockpro64, rk3399 chip with a 4x pcie slot and 4gig ram for ~$70.
It is my home router, with a 10 gig dual port card, two usb3 SSDs, and a 14TB storage array.
And you feel support is inadequate for the rockpro64?
No, support is terrific, aarch64 support is inadequate in HA.
That's what I said?
aarch64 support is inadequate in arm in general in all distros.....
in the packages themselves
some one needs to go in and fix the issues
π Not quite
random shit like openssl was slower
OpenSSL, like many other packages, was optimized for years for a single architecture.
You give someone a ten year head start on you, yeah they are going to be a little bit ahead.
as in the 32 bit version ran way faster
What gen PCIe is on that thing
issue like that that are not HA's fault
Frankly, nobody cares about arm support, power is inexpensive and we want to run more services on each host, except in rare special cases
package authors it relies on simply need to fix their stuff
64bit arm has had issues for years
yep
The Raspberry Pi foundation is a great example of that, shipping arm64 boards, but not the support for it
Can't for the life of me find which gen PCIe this rockpro64 is
HA not building a virtualized arm image is not a package authors fault.
there is a dockerized ha image?
@modest smelt It's technically gen 2, but it runs by default at gen 1 because not every board/chip can maintain gen 2.
well to be fair they do class them as dev boards
Why would we ship virtualized arm images?
So you have a "Dual 10 Gbit" card on an interface that runs at max 16 Gbps?
Sorry, 8 Gbps
why would you run a vm on an arm device yet?
One interface is the WAN interface, which I don't need ten gig for.
And I have my board running at gen 2 without issue.
that overhead just kills the power performance
Docker is a miserable virtualization agent.
And linux containers don't have much overhead.
take the current ha container and add on your own packages?
That's what I've been doing for over a year now. @junior forge
But now the wonderful blog post recently has shown that won't be maintable.
Anything custom is always your own responsibility
the blog post is not about forbidding something
the project is open source
take what you want and dunno... print it, decorate the walls
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/doods/ <<-- this just killed my need for custom containers
HA Core code wallpaper π€
sounds cool π
@light trout it is! π
being able to run tensorflow on a remote pc with a hell of a lot more power with HA for notifications just hit one of my dreams
my dream is still rpi4 usb boot but you know..
at least the officially released net boot sarcastic ya!
HA will take a different approach on that though
so we don't have to rely to much on that
offloading data to USB
so reading from SD for the OS and stuff
good enouth
and storing data on the USB
that be awesome
dam, I can use unifi protect to trigger Doods so I only scan when there is motion
That's my use case for Doods
I've even built some crazy ass logic to separately report on "interesting" vs "other"
Frenck it will still be optional to have it all on usb drive when the century comes they release it?
I'm sure everybody will be forced to buy USB drives or lose all their data... π
wasn't sure how the offload of the meat was going to be handled and if it was simple as repointing the data path or what
just the os on sdcard will certianly prolong it's life but the sdcard will always remain the weak link
can't believe they gave the rpi3 eemc support through the sdcard but not the rpi4, it's like they hate the rpi4 or something lol
Different chip with different capabilities, lose emmc on the sdcard interface, gain PCIe
Though I won't ever touch RPi with my data, due to the firmware.
my pi serves as a rstp to homekit converter now
I don't know what I'm gonna do with my 3B+ now. Maybe make it a print server in hopes it makes my wireless printer more reliable
overkill but sure
Very
I have an old rpi1 B as a print server lol
Room-assistant nodes?
Figure it's better to use it for something instead of letting it collect dust
Kodi
Yeah room assistant came to mind too but not sure I want to get into that
NERF BASTION
I ran out of switch ports to use my other pis...
there is actually alot you can do with an rpi3+
need a 16 port switch
Use the gpios and make it an expensive esp8266
welll shit
You can clone my repo when I finish it. And buy a barcode scanner
that pi3 is about to hit the shelf
And have a headless grocy scanner
@cloud dock im getting the new 16 port unifi flex when it comes out of EA
rip homebridge
Power consumption and noise are serious considerations for any gear
and intergration
Power costs $2.5/year/watt
I got a 2960s, it's their "power efficient" switch.
Eats more power at idle than my rockpro does at full load.
So that 100w load costs me $250/year
wut
@hushed basalt Ever track the power difference of a wireless access point at idle vs transmitting on all radios?
No I haven't
$200 gets me something that has poe and 16 ports
All I know is my rack pulls about 100w
ah right, its the UniFi Switch Lite 16 PoE now
maybe you should invest more in solar or something @hushed basalt
I see a 20-30 watt burst whenever my wife and kids get home.
Don't tell atx you're using unifi switches
buhahaha
Lol invest in solar
Also, remember that all of that power is going mostly to heat, which means your A/C has to handle the extra load.
there are guides online that tell you how to convert one of those old bicycle exercise things into a generator, may help ya offset your power bill lol
With our leaky houses it's not so much
The heat just blows out haha. Especially when you want it in
thats why I only buy modern gear to keep the power and heat generation down
I live in a place where the A/C runs about twice as long as the heat does.
Plus calculating extra AC loads from gear is pretty much impossible at the home scale
well not all modren stuff does that lol
Thermal mass of the building, day/night cycles, insulation, air permeability, heat stack
It's one thing for a data centre or tv studio etc.
Modern gear π , the threadripper gen 2 can cook food.
saves me about $4 per month
lol chicken nuggets
reaching the investment put into it tho... 2 years?
@scenic radish you should put a power meter on your toy box
I have 5 temperature sensors in this small apartment
I've got a zwave power meter.
Say for example if I have a choice between two functionally equivalent network switches
that be a bad idea @hushed basalt it's a no name "mini pc" probably consumes more power than a baseball stadium
oh how I want a power meeter that I can monitor
One idles at 50w and costs $100 and one idles at 10w and costs $250.
At $100/year cost difference it doesn't take long
my desktop is surprisingly efficient
It's scary how much power a xbox and ps4 eat while sleeping.
8 W while using
@forest edge it probably has resistive heater elements in it to add "weight"
thats the monitor and everything
I use 2-3kwh per hour while I sleep
What pc?
mac mini
@clear ferry all from one of those under cover fan blower you see on infomercials?
Is that heatpumps atx greentext
the shiny black one with modern internals
We have two @hushed basalt
Air source?
Air to air yes
apple π€’
@forest edge apple has power efficiency down
stop feeding the devil
I thought ground source would be viable up there
It is, for big farms
Air source is a no brainer here
Probably $150k here
But no cooling in that
It's scary how much power a xbox and ps4 eat while sleeping.
@cloud dock π€
you talking radiant heating or geothermal?
Geothermal
15k just for heat? I would do geothermal power as well lol
Yeah no way that would cost $15k here
Subsidized by the state of course
Dirty socialism raising living standards for the working class

@tidal bronze saw on the news you all have a goat infestation
@forest edge thats the best heat thingee in the world
I can't even get a subsidy to install insulation
Best windows in the world right?
All our subsidies goes to mining companies
thats sweden not norway
ssweden makes all the cool windows
We have triple or quad layer windows now I think
But I thought all the best shit is in Norway....or at least according to some.
bet quad pane is heavy as hell lol
We have... Windows. Technically
See through plastic @hushed basalt ?
They are glass inside a frame. Sometimes that frame is even squared
What's the refraction on those quad pane windows?
Sometimes they put more than 90% coverage in the butyl
your au, nothing is suppose to be fancy or nice.. everyone else in the world think you all sleep in the outback under a tree eating snakes
Fighting with the snake so the snake doesn't eat you.
@forest edge π?
@hushed basalt toy box? :(
Bog standard window in 99.99% of homes built in the last 50 years
The refraction on the Audi A8 with bullet proof windows is.... Interesting
you hadn't seen the 100's of goats traversing the neighborhoods yet @tidal bronze ? should look it up lol
There's been a sickening trend the past couple of decades of floor to ceiling windows as well
@forest edge no idea
I wish I made enough to warrant ever sitting in an A8 with bullet proof windows.
@tidal bronze https://youtu.be/UBOuMqG0UuA

@cloud dock you never will if you just complain about a subpar Architecture
yea but should have still been on the news for ya
Don't watch news been crazy busy man
@cloud dock don't know about bullet proof but ride to homedepot in a A8L π
I miss my A8L as well as glad I'm rid of it
What year?
I will gladly sit here and rage against the docker cloud.
@tidal bronze 2001
That was the OG one, didn't like the design after 2003
I remember sitting in a "car" once when I was young, don't think my back could handle it these days
@cloud dock sorry, the docker cloud was my fault
I got too happy when I could streamline things
when the devs would do the work for me
the day I became more lazy
@last dirge those are nice.
windows generate too much heat even with multiple panes imo
So you prefer the bunker ?
actually, underground bunker would be nice lol
Actually used less than 80kwh yesterday
@brisk glen I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and simply say that's the attitude that caused the Java catastrophe.
@forest edge thats what you recommend to everyone
we have a few caves that house retail store sin them here and there is 0 heating/cooling
java is love, java is life... java is minecraft
I used 18
java is a pain in the ass
I don't want to know the typical shopper there
why are you giving yourself caffeine enemas @forest edge
I love how everyone forgets Minecraft was made to make fun of Java.
I don't want to know the typical shopper there
@tidal bronze it was the only place I could still buy waterbed parts for the longest time, was awesome
We made fun of Java long before Minecraft
@cloud dock They are still laughing though π
No problem
@junior forge Comedians make bank.
@forest edge this is why you sleep less. π
well lately i sleep less cause my video doorbell has been a pita
Why what's wrong ?
Does George really say javajava in the original? I've only seen the Swedish dub, but I assumed it was coffeecoffeecoffee
Dubs π€’
Yeah I know, but I was, like what? seven? What year was this?
Feckin kids - get off my lawn
π
First time I say that. I feel dirty
I haven't watched a dub ever I think , we had pirate satellite from I was born
And you were wrong too - I'm actually too young to be a boomer (and in the wrong country) π
So I grew up with UK TV mostly
I assumed I was.
it was made in china is what's wrong, half the "enable" configurations is spelled "eable" and if you are looking for some simple config option like "sensitivity" you have to think like they do and somehow know that "toch" is somehow english for "sensitivity" @tidal bronze
What door bell is this?
Hmmm. So motion triggers?
it has motion and pir
i had to disconnect the ir lights cause they were starting to melt through the plastic lol
Oh perfect design then
But seriously? "Java" or "Coffee"?
yes
... should have googled in the first place... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQfzrBcjoBs
yes
Java is what coffee wants to be when it grows up π
@forest edge so thats keeping you up ?
easier to work on this stuff while the woman sleeps cause I don't get pestered as much since she's still working from home from the covid crap lol
had her go out and ring the doorbell yesterday a few times and you could feel the rolling of the eyes without even seeing it lol
I β€οΈ java
@forest edge women? I thought you only had cows
@clear ferry this coming from someone who blew the rear end out of a stuffed monkey? go on show the class your "tissue" holder again lol
@tidal bronze you know much about pir's?
I bought it like that
@forest edge lil
been trying to understand this camera's pir settings since I think some of it is hidden behind presets. They do a 1-6 settings where as 1 is the close and 6 is far but it has a duty cycle setting as well, I assumed the lower the power through the duty cycle settings lowered the pir's range? is that how it works?
my first pir i messed with and tried googling information but can't seem to find anything that makes it clear
It's not a variable power adjustment, most likely adjusting/ignoring detection
well i tried all kinds of settings and right now I have it on setting 1 with a 20 duty cycle and it can go an hour without a false detection but anything higher it starts detecting non stop lol
frustrating to say the least lol
βοΈ your friend here π
@forest edge most likely the adjusted range is not actual π
well I use motioneye motion detect on the same camera but was hoping to use both to cut down on some false positives
I use MotionEye with Doods for exactly that
was so excited when I figured out the api for the pir and the doorbell button but between the pir headaches and the rest sensor 30 second interval not sure I can make good use of either in HA π’
@clever mortar never messed with anything like doods before, don't even know what specs machine i would need to run it on or if i even have something laying around with enough umph to work lol
I run it on an i5, get a sub second processing time on a 4MP image
You can obviously tune things a lot to make it faster, but I'm fine with a 0.8 second processing time (for now)
wonder if an i3 would work lol
downside it's a desktop which means more heat in this room which means more sweaty underwear
It "works" on a Pi3, just slow
@forest edge you are trying to to get the PIR working as well right?
GRRR
@tidal bronze yea right now it almost seems to work, you have to be like within 2 feet of it to set it off but that's better than 40 million false positives i guess lol
NUC not responding after UPS failover
I really need to get a cheap HDMI monitor to keep down with all the gear
@clear ferry uh i think it's funny you tried to translate that to english I'm guessing but literally the only word that was translated to english was "wow!" lol
Wait for it to finish loading on your American dial up
it's fully loaded
we gots BROADBAND
@last dirge my rpi4 handled the transition perfectly when power went out for 2 hours here a month or so ago
I don't know what the hell happened
I can't ping it
got no monitor I can use to see if it's actually responding but has some dumb problem
everything else in the rack's fine
did you smell it?
doesn't smell like magic smoke
the switch reports it's transmitting/receiving
guess it's hard reset time
need to pick you up a cheapo 15" monitor for situations like this
need HDMI in
looks like about $100 is the pricepoint
@clear ferry what the hell is this atx? looks like a gyro kind of
never heard of it
you've never heard of kebab?
I feel like the end of avengers when he asked if anyone had shawarma
It's what I just had for dinner really
mmmmm scab
I ate deer meat once, was gross
false
dad knew a butcher who liked to hunt deer so one night we had "fresh" deer steak with jerky and I did not like either
i would imagine whale and seal taste the same lol
Schwarma is delicious
Tinkerer just how slow you think a rpi3B+ would be with doods?
The taste similar, but not the same @forest edge
didn't someone post a picture on here that doods thought thier flower garden was an airplane?
@forest edge in my setup cats and walls get detected by people lol
walls? lol
with as high as a confidence rating as actual people lol
isn't it ai learning so you tell it that a wall is a wall then it reduces how often it makes thta mistake?
ok walls and a bush lol
naw no AI learning here lol....i think tensorflow needs to provide newer models or we need to learn to train the existing models
if you got time to dig that thing out and fill it, you got time to pop them bullets in by hand lol
Perfect thing against 10k rounds rolling around at home.
that's much better than the shit speed loader i have for my handgun
skalavala was talking about DOODS DICS the other day
( Ν‘Β° ΝΚ Ν‘Β°)

@amber bramble better than the crap tediore posts
did I tell you I figured out a way to get a bunch of free stuff from FedEx?
you rob thier trucks?
easier than that
you wait for someone to build a new house on a road in your zip code with name that's similar enough to yours and as long as your house numbers match, you'll get everything that's supposed to be delivered to the other place until FedEx updates their maps database
so far it's been about 18 months
unfortuately the other people are old asian people so they haven't gotten anything good
after about the 3rd package, I stopped calling FedEx
I'll tell the person delivering the package if I actually see them delivering it
lol
around here people go on the nextdoor app and state someone stole thier package and they won't call the police if it's on thier doorstep by the next morning
I always check to make sure it's nothing important before I ignore it
today's motherlode is hemorrhoid wipes and denture cleaner tablets
pretty sure they tried to deliver a cell phone a few weeks ago but I caught the driver and told him
lol
today's motherlode is hemorrhoid wipes and denture cleaner tablets
@last dirge sure the package didn't have @clear ferry name on it?
#boomerlife
skalavala was talking about DOODS DICS the other day
@last dirge you used Doods? I will probably use it if they support it on RPI.
no
Or at least try it. I have got a good TF setup at home.
I don't yet have enough infrastructure to deal with something like that
I'd have to section off the IP cameras on a different vlan
You donβt need infrastructure to consume pre-trained models.
and my NUC's only got a single network input
I don't want to flood my network with RTSP streams just so something can look at it
Yes, it is very simple, no need for extra hardware or infrastructure
Ah!
You donβt have to stream anything. You use snapshot on camera and feed that to TF or Doods. Thatβs all. No real-time streaming is really required.
Yeah, my process is:
- Motion reports activity to HA
- HA Snapshots the stream
- Doods processes the snapshot
all of my motion processing is done on the NVR
and there's no way to get that data out of the NVR
Can't even get a notification alert/push/whatever?
not through any useful method
it's a pretty crappy NVR that's 6 years old
I can have it flip a bit on one of two outputs
or email
"awesome"
you know it
anyone have recommendations on NVRs for a multi-unit residential project? five buildings, would like one camera on the exterior of each building. project i'm heading up as part of my condo board
For that, going all in on one brand would be logical
Synology + Surveillance Station?
All Hikvision or all Unifi for example
Personally, yeah, NAS or MotionEye and a bunch of whatever cameras
Hi there all - Don't know if there is a more correct channel to use, so bear with me.
Currently using HA for a bunch of automation stuff as well as the use of the app to control lights from a far. Using the Homekit integration to control various lights and stuff and then Siri shortcuts to control garage door, front door lock, etc.
Last thing I'd really love to integrate is Music - I can quite easily get some stuff working via Chromecast Audio and control stuff, but I'd like to be able to just hand a guest an iPad or Android tablet or something, and then a single device in KIOSK mode is able to control lights, search Spotify/Google Play/Apple Music/Tidal, etc. for content as well as use playlists of course. Does such a thing exist?
@uncut moon I think Plex can do that
@scenic radish I would not go cheap on that project. you'll regret it long haul
#integrations-archived would be a good place to ask though
I've got Plex and I could get Tidal, but then I wind up with having a Plex app for Media and HA for everything else, would love a single app experience
skalalalalalalalalalala has a pretty neat distributed system
problem is it seems ridiculous to have a single camera with a single NVR in each building, but i'm not really sure what the alternative would be...
@scenic radish point to point wifi
Backhaul between the buildings to a central location
or physical backhaul
Unifi and Mikrotik do a range of gear for it
ah good point
@uncut moon I'd ask over in #integrations-archived - but HA isn't really a media player like that
there's a Unifi rig that's PoE that's got a PoE output to a camera with a wifi cannon on it
π₯« π
you just have to power it
PoE is "handy"
you can put the wifi thing anywhere
just single PoE to the camera
I think the Ubiquiti stuff is the lower voltage PoE

I love my FreeNAS jails ... but the more I'm getting to know docker... It's getting harder to not think about switching to a Debian based server to have native docker support :/
Is it just me or are there lots of new people around? Is it because of wink?
Hi... I've been around for a bit in #672217570283094017 ... Today I thought I'd venture out π€£
@fluid zephyr but if my thoughts about freenas12 are right you can run the middleware on Linux soon, and get all the benefits of freenas, but Linux underneath with jails or docker, and even KVM instead of bhyve
@hearty depot your package was sent today
Ohhhh I did not know this
@scenic radish and yours
β€οΈ

I really like the new z-wave integration ... I'm still having a hard time wanting to move it off my FreeNAS ... even though I know it's better ... It's just now a second device ... but it's just a pi with one container I tell myself....
I'm way too much over thinking this
So here is some valuable information.....cottenelle plumbers approved wipes arenβt reliable for anything other than smelly fingers. Donβt ask me how I know.
Hi all! Just joined this server because of Wink's sub crap. Already have a PI4, so I have a HUSBZB-1 on order. Can't wait to dig in!
Welcome to the other madness
i really need to get a different router...
HUSBZB-1 is nice, I'm using that
been saying it for months but got a new server instead lol
Edgerouter x. 50.00. Canβt beat it with a stick
π€ Pretty sure I can...
google wifi has a fit whenever i try to set up a DHCP reservation with the same IP address for a different device even when I've already disconnected the other device long before trying to reassign the same IP
I use pfsense + unifi APs
ip a shows this, always:
2: enp3s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group default qlen 1000
link/ether 00:00:de:ad:be:ef brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 10.0.0.2/24 brd 10.0.0.255 scope global enp3s0
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
my router on the other hand seems to think the server has 10.0.0.53, then 10.0.0.52, then 10.0.0.2
π
(I have wiring to anywhere I need an access point)
I said a stick @clever mortar, get your mind out of the gutter. π€£
But I've got lots of company there...
Also, if I've got a stick, and I can reach it, anything can get hit
Yea, I am right over here on your left
Percussive maintenance FTW
With duct tape, a stick, and a paper clip, I can hard reset just about anything
Multiple different ways
Zactly
Tell that to the UPS that died after a whopping 3 days of service
I think my router would hold up to that for a bit π
"Hey lets get a UPS for our core network, it'll make it more reliable!"
3 days later
"Why is everything down?"
it's surrounded by a solid piece of metal
