because they are shite ? π€£
No but really
I've had this 1 TB WD green with 4 years power on time for 50 euro.
i bought it in like 2012 and it broke in 2018?
they are fine for offline storage probably, but not for anything prodution wise or performance wise
hope you aren't storing it ONLY on the Onedrive
I'm pretty sure new greens are SMR as well?
SMR π€’
One of those techs that just shouldn't exist
@clear ferry do you ever manage LTO
Yes
hope you aren't storing it ONLY on the Onedrive
@clear ferry no just to back up next to it on my pc and nas at home
that should be enough π
proud of me dad?

Thank you, clock
That's a pretty efficient clock

I am still old enough to remember we could call a free number to hear what the clock was
last time I did that must have been.... 1996 maybe
!clock
In film and tv on proper productions they put everything on a pair of LTOs on set
I feel sorry for the intern who has to migrate LTO generations
LTO8 is nice good speed and storage space
I'm still not a fan of cold tape for long term archival
In 15 years have fun getting working drives
that's not a problem in enterprise tbh @hushed basalt customers I have still have LTO3 drives around
One page per byte
Single sided
Yes
ofcourse
My mother used to work in a pharmacy. they had a on-site server. They removed the tape and set it home with 2 employees everyday
if there was a fire that night, it wouldnt be lost
atleast for the last 15 years norwegian pharmacies have been connected to a shared service that hosts data and storage for them
probably closer to 20 years
fax?
No that's Japan
last time I used a fax was in 2008
last time I saw a customer have it was probably around 2015
remember when we spoke about upnp?
π€’
sec
I wonder what the TCO of tape vs aws deep glacier is
can't use AWS with military customers
so TCO is not interesting
or other secure sites
What vpn would you pic? PPTP, OpenVPN or L2TP/ipsec?
?
!

Here , try this:
http://letmegooglethat.com/?q=wireguard
go OPNsense then
virtualized routers are fine and fun, but I prefer hardware routers, unless you know how to secure your network pipes over virtualized networking
In my country they use routers from the ISP
most users do, in all countries
but we get TV and ETH and phone bundled
on vlan
with the router.
There is not a seperate modem involved.
we do do, but I just streched a VLAN with the internet connection to the TV box
so my TV box goes to the internet directly, while all other hosts go through my OPNsense router
because IGMP is a PITA to route
especially when they use both v2 and v3
I don't have the cash for a router
nor do i have the patience and knowledge to sort it all out
I just want a VPN server on the nas so i can get in my network from anywere
then you don't need a virtualized router either
just run wireguard and terminate the connection on the inside of your network π€’
Heh
I need to set up a virtual router
Is it usefull to put it in a VM?
I don't want to spend $400 on a opnsense box
I spent $130 from china, it's good enough for my networking needs
Or use the HA addon :o?
on my router π€£
π
and terminate the connection on the edge
Your horribly not-usefull
But , in my setup
I have the DS218+ with 10 gb of ram.
HA on a VM
Would you put the wireguard in another VM or put it on HA ?
I have an ask - which is probably like asking about religion. I currently have a ton of RF devices to control lights (example https://www.trust.com/en/product/71015-built-in-switch-acm-1000). They are okay and (at the time of choice) mostly cheap. As it is purely RF they are also pretty dumb. Signals are send fire-and-forget and no on/off status is reportable (other than by the device who sent the signal, which is not based on status but only based on 'signal was sent'). I have a chance to now switch to something smarter - which way to go?
I try not to google because the only thing I find is sponsored posts
@grave bay sounds like #hardware-archived
@clear ferry oh thanks, wasn't sure
You know, it would be usefull to be able to move messages
it would be useful to move you
You want to move with me <3?
π€’
π¦
@hushed basalt jc, k8s is very simple, I thought it was very complex handling, but it's just replicas in the end
if you understand storage replicas it's just... business as usual
and the pod business is just, grouping really
Thank you @last dirge
no thank you @green inlet
!clock
btw @fading zodiac BRIAN IS MUURICAN
the active one
Me
I'm going to pm you π
You can find his config lurking in the darkness.

my guy atx hows your experience with yeelight
TIL: Us people dont use DHL
What kind of mass world π€’ are you into today atx?
fedex π
not running it yet @hushed basalt just doing the training videos
@midnight adder they work fine, I don't do much with them, just circadian lighting
Stay healthier and sleep better by syncing your lights with natural daylight to maintain your circadian rhythm! Circadian Lighting slowly synchronizes your color changing lights with local perceived color temperature of the sky throughout the day. This gives your environment...
all my lights do that
doesnt that consume loads of power
I wish I went with more cct instead rgb
as they are on 24/7
Itβs something developed by the new generation, along with all these diagnoses, to make you spend money
only in rooms with occupancy
what about bedrooms
You would only use it the same way you would use normal lights
lights in the bedroom are at 1% all the time
I like that
You don't have to have all your lights on. Just have the lights that are on at the sky colour temp
What colour do they go after the sun sets
I think I will end up getting rid of these tuya lights when I get my own house
The sun is above the horizon in all of those
Tuya lights with esphome is not a very good experience
I don't know if the culprit is tuya, esphome or homeassistant but it's very poor
For me, home assistant has been very fast lately. There used to be a noticeable difference between actions. Now, they seem to be almost simultaneous.
blame ludeeus
always
You must be using the premium trial
Your credit card will be charged after your 7 day trial. Only $50/user/month. Charged annually.
Only issue I got with Circadian Lighting that it takes the state of the sun and not my night/day scedule.
is there us people yet?
this might be a really stupid question, but i'm running Home assistant core in docker, and i'm really curious about the pros and cons between home assistant and home assistant core?
PickYourStick
I really need to make this a bot command, it's coming up multiple times a day
Yes
TL/DR: Use what works for you
Sorry if it's been asked before
π
It's fine, just amusing how it's suddenly become a hot topic
i like the way i have it, but all those add ons in Hassio seem super easy
If you are a lazy f*** like me go with Home Assistant, if you want some more controll, or do custom changes to the image go with core
https://www.home-assistant.io/faq/ha-vs-hassio/
@fading zodiac thanks
What ludeeus says
.links @misty garden @fading zodiac
@misty garden @fading zodiac You can disable link preview in Discord by adding < before and > after the URL, like this: <http://home-assistant.io/>
I wanted the screen go blue.
sorry, new to discord
Also @misty garden - quoting folks like that can become obnoxious fast - as you just saw π
I've seen channels vanish under 10+ line quotes...
The summary by @light trout is right though:
Home Assistant - I'm lazy
Other - I want control
sorry, i was just trying to reply like in whats app lol
.irc @clever mortar
@clever mortar Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.
π
Yeah, Discord screwed up there @light trout π
oh ok! Sorry, i get it now
Gonna get started with home assistant today. What's the recommended installation approach? I see I can run it containerized but I can also run it natively on my raspberry pi?

ok i have one more q, is duckdns reliable? i see a lot of guides on how to set that up
Mostly
It's just a hostname to IP resolution service though, the real question is whether your ISP is reliable π
i saw it all go down a week or 2 ago, so i was wondering whether that happens often
I've run dyndns for 20 years
I have never had downtime
so compared to that
it is unreliable π€£
I use my own domain and Route53... never had an outage
thats a paid service right?
yeah, you're right
I think I paid 10-15 usd at some point, I don't bother keeping tabs on it anymore
The domain registration for my blog costs more than my domain registration and DNS for my personal domain π
yeah, I've had my domain for 20ish years too, was a friend who started one of norways first hosting DNS companies, so I had it free for 12 years π€£
when he sold his company I had to start paying for it
what do u guys do about getting devices in your countries?
they dont sell anything over here
I order 99% of my stuff from china
i wish i could just buy everything on amazon and be like, this isnt the right thing, then return it
PickStick
since I pay $1 for a ESP board from china, I frankly don't care if I don't use it
Start by looking at the integrations/devices supported by your existing integrations π
I probably order 100-200 orders per year
now its like i have to do a lot of research, then wait 2 months for the thing to come and find out its the wrong thing
returning isn't really an issue π€£
or i buy 4 diff things
I always find some use for something
when u say china, you mean aliexpress and gearbest?
ok thanks
It comes pre-installed with malware π
I have ordered one storage device from china, was SSD in my mini computer
works fine so far
I know @strange vapor had some issues with his at some point
I know a few folks who've got something other than what they ordered, the usual 8 GB flash drive in a 500 GB SSD case fun
Seems to be pretty rare though
Yeah, the 3TB flash drives on wish... sounds suspicious
this is just a 64GB drive in a m2 form factor
Nagged my boss for some new rack servers in my garage
let's see what she comes up with π€£
I was hoping my mini-itx would be enough for my vsphere7 lab, but I need atleast one more with 64GB RAM or something
just right now ?
what about the rest of the year ?

Eh, depends on where I'm visiting
Sometimes work sends me nice places and I get time to see the sites
Sometimes I get to visit Slough...
@clear ferry The unbranded mSATA SSD that came with it just failed after a few months. Have a Crucial one in there now which seems to be surviving happily
I have ordered one storage device from china, was SSD in my mini computer
@clear ferry i ordered my 'gaming mouse and headset
in china
in the meanwhile i bought new proper stuff
gaming mouse π€’
the gaming mouse from china was probably that disgusting that somebody could eat from it for a whole day

π€
You need AC in your office π
Or to stop measuring the temperature in freedom units
I have AC in the upstairs areas, but I let my wife have her door open, and mine closed, because I can stand the temp, she can't, and she doesn't have to listen to my conf calls π€£
with this
man i could lit up my whole room with the amount of light from that thing
Glowing LED mice and headphones... why
you are the epitome of basic bitch, just for gamers π€
it's hard to find decent headphones with a mic that don't have LEDs
hyperx cloud 2 apparently
Bose or Sony non-gaming headsets π
the 305 looks horrible ergonomically, like my travel mouse
I got some Corsair headphones but I can turn the LEDs off
my bose suck a D over bluetooth
never had issues
when using the mic?
not in front of face lol
anything else on my system that makes noise pulls audio focus for 15 seconds
you nasty π€’
even when I'm in DCs with close to a thousand servers nobody complains about my audio @last dirge
the BOSE just keeps on giving
Teams \ Skype \ Phone calls
do you have Bose software installed on your computer?
Nope
Win 10?
Yes
never had anyone complain about my audio
odd stare into camera
Intel Wireless Bluetooth, Firmware HCI 8.256 / LMP 8.256 HWID - USB\VID_8087&PID_0A2B&REV_0001
From Device manager
I don't see that last bit anywhere
mine's got 2 values
Yes, that is how hardware IDs work, in bus flow
one with the revision on the end, one without
As expected
I got a mic for my headphones today actually
It mounts/plugs into the 3.5mm with a combined cable
π€’
So I can plug it into my phone/laptop and used wired connection. Bluetooth two way audio is π€’
Hot garbage π€’ π₯ π©
finally online again π
haha
That's ok, somebody with a back-hoe will take the cable out more effectively
down for almost 4 full days. would still be down if i didn't switch providers
lol yeah, the new one is above ground but its a bright orange cable with tons of flags
So... should last a week?
hopefully long enough for them to come out and do it properly
its mostly on my lawn this time instead of going across multiple houses
hi can I get some help?
I have a Tenda("Chinese") outdoor wifi router I am using as a "switch" (AP and client bridge mode).
Can I use iptables to block these devices from the internet using mac address?
related question, is it acceptable to set smart plug to static dhcp with wrong gateway to prevent it from reporting back to the cloud?
Its my Birthday in 1 minute π
Stay young
Happy cAke day
thanks
Isolation fun! Wooh
Well yes and no.
@rare condor posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/GVtbjBWtBj/
That schedule looked borderline diagnostic
Its kind of necessary when managing an online gaming session when half people own macbooks and can't play and many people are unsure of what it entails
I tried to make it fun
Managing other people π€’
managing yourself
meh, it still allows me to catch my friends and have a good time, so I am inclined
Friends π€’
My daughter didn't sleep in kindergarten today @hushed basalt
This might get interesting
Then again she sleeps from 20-07 these days
hammer is always the solution @clear ferry
To managing other people? I agree
If a baby cries but the baby monitor is off, did they really cry
SchrΓΆdinger's Baby???
Observing will also change the state
depends on how well the room is sound proofed π
we replaced the carpet in the baby's room with hardwoods to help with the scum factor but that had the unintended consequence of making her tantrums louder
My daughter is heard throughout the house when she wants to
Weathersealing doors helps a lot
gotta be careful with that with central air though
Yeah ducting is the worst
You really need air transfer vents though
Relying on a poorly fitted doorframe/door for return air, you're gonna have a bad time
there would be no way for me to put a jump duct in the master bedroom so i'm kind of bummed about that
i could use one of those "perfect balance return air pathways" that go in your door but i don't wanna do that
but i just might
I bet you 100 dropbear dollars that if I spoke to 10 builders/ airconditioner installers about air transfer vents they would look at me like I'm speaking elvish
9/10 of them at least *
"just undercut the door, lulz"
You don't need "perfect balance"
You just need the restriction of the vent to not be greater than the amount of air coming into the room
So err on the side of bigger and you'll be fine
variable rate blowers and compressors help with that a lot these days
your mom's a variable rate blower
Air still has to get out of the room
just got a water softener installed, now i need to figure out how to reverse engineer the app to get the data into HA
ours just has a dumb timer sadly
I've got returns in pretty much every room
probably a ton of data available there
so yay
nice. We have a return in our MBR but then just one additional per floor after that
I've never seen any sort of return/transfer vents in any home I've been in
It's always always always a central return in the hallway
that's cool for the downstairs as its wide open but the bedrooms definitely have back pressure
the app can pull the flow rate in gallons per minute, total gallons used per day, total gallons left before regeneration, and a few other things
Australians can't build buildings
Returns are building codes in the USA.
i only have 1 return in our hallway
I've got one in every bedroom
Hahaha. Building codes. Australia
Every room has to have one.
the hvac will pull the doors to the bedrooms shut when the blower kicks up to stage 2
then a few more elsewhere
Builders here don't even know what blower door testing is
@last plaza register != return
Register?
the output
@last plaza lives in the land where they put registers in the floor
No, there is an in take and and then there is a return for air circulation
return is the intake
If I was building I'd just go with splits
but muh aesthetics
No ductwork in a 60 degree ceiling cavity. Balanced.
In plain English, we have two - one is where the heat/cold air comes into the room. Another is where the air goes back into HVAC
Thatβs how the pressure is maintained
The HVAC unit pulls fresh air from outside as well as vent Out
Split systems are nice if they're positioned properly and don't have blinding LEDs
LEDeez Nuts
That sounds like a HRV
Seriously, who designs a product and goes "Okay so this is going to be mounted on the wall in someones bedroom while they sleep.... Johnson what are your product ideas"
"BrIghT bLue anD GreEn bLinKinG LEDs"
RGB minisplit or nothing
Now with bonus xenon spots
and voice notifications
COOLING IS NOW IDLE
COOLING HAS INITIATED
with optional verbose mode
WASH THE FILTER YOU LAZY BITCH
This is what split systems look like at 2am
Bulkhead splits are nice. But luxury
forced air FTW
You can have minisplits run off outdoor units
Plus that's a lot of ductwork in a vented attic
There's a reason a lot of high efficiency homes use splits
reminds me for some reason, does anyone here still like CDs?
@hushed basalt insulation and triple-glazed windows has more to do with it than minisplits
What is your attic temperature like
And is it airtight
Insulation and glazing have nothig to do with split vs ducted
attic temperature is usually within 10 degrees of ambient
insulation and glazing have everything to do with "high efficiency"
ESPECIALLY if they subscribe to the BOFA method of efficiency
You're completely missing the point
All things being equal, a split system is far more efficient than ducted
depends on how you're defining efficiency
and for the types of houses I like, they'd be horrible
my main floor is essentially one big room
close to 1200 square feet
your main floor is bigger than my condo π
and it's open to my second floor via a 2-story foyer
so I'd have to have a split in the hallway upstairs, plus at least 2 downstairs just for that
then one for each bedroom
another for the master ensuite
yay whole house water shutoff valve works π
@scenic radish I'm pretty sure my master suite is bigger than your condo π

@amber bramble hoorah for not flooding the joint
i can't complain though. they fit 2 full bathrooms in this place
and the master bath has a big soaking tub that makes a nice shower space
@wet pilot these are returns we have them in each room.
These are registers in every room as well for cold and hot air.
must be a local code thing then, we definitely don't have those here
or a house builder who doesn't cut every possible corner at least π
Yup. It is a building code here. When we finished basement around 15 years ago, we have rooms and full bathroom in there. They all have them as well.
We have extra returns near foyer area as a matter of fact.
this house has 3 returns. 2x 20"x20" and 1 14"x14" in the mbr
floor registers π€’
Not all are at floor level. Most of them are close to ceiling.
The picture I showed is an exception. It is in a weird place in the hallway that turns into foyer space.
my entire house is floor vents π¦
i hate them
especially with small children lol
or dogs
yes
"great, the dog crapped in the vent"
Yes, when our kids were toddlers, they used to drop everything in it.
There is a metal mesh that holds onto all the junk, and makes it easier to vacuum.
@last dirge this is worst!
that's why my roborocks aren't scheduled
It actually happened to my buddy a few months ago. He is obviously not very happy about it. π
oh man
i don't have my roborock scheduled either but thats more because my floors are covered with baby toys and small child socks and other goodies that my kids leave out for it to gladly eat
Yup
mine gets confused if the dogs move a bed
or leave a toy somewhere
especially if it can't be picked up by its LIDAR
it's like "I can't see anything in my way so I'm going to keep trying"
Dashboard tablet Nexus 2012 tape mounted π€£
It's quite slow I must say
What is a proper way to wallmount this prehistorical tablet
3m tape and dreams
2012... that one has the magnetic Qi charging magic
You could recess one of those in the wall
Thanks for the suggestion
I should get another tablet I suppose. The UI is quite slow
Would flashing a custom rom improve performance?
this gives me ideas π€
apple in 2019: WE CREATED WIRELESS CHARGING!
Heck, there is not even android webview on this device
me and wireshark are going to become friends later
I remember having wireless charging on my Palm Pre 2
That was in 2009
It was awesome when I got work calls in the middle of the night
I still have HP Jornada. I got it for $600 in 2000. Battery is dead. It has windows CE on it π

It was a hell lot of money for a palm pc those days.
I remember buying a used cd burner in 98 for $300
lol
It had a halfway broken laser
So every 3 CDs were a bust
And when every cd cost $20

Yup. Writable CDs.
But I sold copies of word and windows to make a profit
The burner craps out middle of burning CD, and it is a toaster!
Piracy you mean! You were a bootlegger?
Add that to@your qualifications in your github repo π
We didn't have DIO at the time, so I tried not moving my mouse while burning, or else it would crap out
Oh, I remember those days!
And trying to play winamp while burning usually resulted in choppy audio and failed cds
I still have those old Winamp software.
lol. Love Winamp! You can condense it into a thin bar!
I think I uploaded windows 3.1 to my github repo. I may still have it there.
You can run it on RPi
He's going to be furious
π€£
I think he was one of the original authors for MS DOS. After that, he didnβt code.
Windows 10 supports arm, so I'm guessing more and more arm desktops will arrive the next few years
Cool
HPE moonshot, cool product
You can hav your own azure at home.
I've had my own cloud at home for years, I just powered off my blade enclosure last year
Which home cloud do you use? Any specific software?
And now I regret it, so I've nagged my boss for 2x1u servers
lol
Esxi cluster, with me as the cloud
Oh, I got the same. VSphere.
Had 80ish vms at some point doing stuff for work and collegues
I setup vms to run specific software that doesnβt run on newer versions. Then I tear them down.
But now I need to learn vRealize, NSX, vCloud, VSAN and kubernetes, so I need more hardware
I got 5 hosts. Good enough for now.
What are you doing with K8? I did training on it a couple of years ago
2x hosts with 48c/256GB/10G should carry me far
Yup
Yeah. K8 cluster administration?
Yep. That would be cool!
Thatβs a marketable skill these days for sure!
Not Windows Administration π
I already am the only one who works with 13 products, why not add a few more
More π°
Just have to ask for it.
I did last year, I should try my luck again this year
Try hard next time! π
But I got 20% last time
Not bad!
πΏ

Just flashed cyanogenmod (Android 7.1.2) performance is amazing on this old 2012 Nexus! π
Anybody else happens to use their Google home speaker trough Bluetooth connection?
I'm experiencing random disconnects every once in a while......
known issue
If only I could configure casting on moode player by default
@last plaza baby drones should be arriving in about a week lol
I'm afraid to break stuff when it comes to configuring audio devices on Linux
@scenic radish wow! Thatβs fast! I should be getting them too.
i must have gotten one of the last sets too because i sent the link to my brother and he said it was out of stock
WIRESHARK DO DO DODODO DO
sales guy on the call today: "we should know if the client has chosen us for this contract in a week and a half. After that we've got 90 days to implementation"
everybody else on the calll:
me: did you just say we have 90 days before this software that hasn't even begun to being written has to be production ready?
sales guy: is that going to be a problem?
Android 7? How is life in 2015?
Yep. The products on meh.com gets sold quickly.
As the sales guy if that 90 days are dog days or human days. Depending on what he thinks, you may even have a short period to do the shit.
I donβt understand how people think software can be developed overnight.
lol
also the sales team: no, we won't pay to develop software that's not being asked for by customers
lmao
it's asinine
you are being kind!
at least this time they consulted "IT" before they wrote a contract
it never gets old. See that all the time!
I looked at the RFP
"hey, did anyone else notice in here it explicitly states that the client will own the database?"
π€£
gets even better!
so I ask "how are we getting infrastructure there?"
I am laughing out loud here! πππ
they said "oh, we'll deploy everything at our datacenter in Houston"
cool, so backhauling data halfway around the world? that'll impress the customer with our speed
oh boy!
"the RFP also says we have to write something to integrate with WeChat. I looked into that and to get a developer account you have to have governmental approval. Who's looking into that?"
blank stares
lmao. Assuming they have an api.
Of course, you need approval from govt for everything
so I ask "anybody know what mechanism that uses for authorization?"
blank stares
cool, cool
the sales guy was like "we're thinking of using this SaaS provider for this function" and draws a circle on some flow charts
so I ask if they can do some of the functions that are in his circle
"well no, but we can pay them to develop those"
"in 90 days?"
"well, I don't know their capacity"
cool, let's plan around guesses
π
if it weren't for the rona I'd be considering GTFO
I hear you! It is only a matter of time.
I've been 100% remote for five and a half years
I got meetings on my calendar for December with Skype only meetings. I am guessing 2020 is a WFH year.
heh
I think a lot of places are going to realize that if people work from home they don't have to have leases for office space and even if people are less productive, they'll still come out ahead
but I also think that a lot of people that are new to working from home won't properly set boundaries and will work MORE than if they were in an office
Yep. Our productivity certainly increased- folks donβt even take vacation and work longer hours without breaks
but I also think that a lot of people that are new to working from home won't properly set boundaries and will work MORE than if they were in an office
@last dirge well said!
I did at first
Experience speaks.
then I realized I was needlessly filling 40 hours when I could complete all of my work in about 23
so I adjusted
far less stress, still higher output than was expected
We will slowly ease into the next phase
i'm gonna use this time of me working from home as a bargaining chip to be able to do it more
Covid<insert year>
i've been as productive, if not more, working from home
If you can be equally productive by WFH, why go to work and cost resources?
Ahhhhhh, som since it started last year, that's where the 19 cames from
might even be so bold as to suggest a solution to us being almost at 100% capacity as far as desks: rotating WFH schedule where you share a desk with one other person
(since they probably won't go for full time WFH)
Iβve heard TCS is going to WFH 80% by 2025.
Out of 4 million employees. Most big companies will do the same.
Iβd say companies donβt need to assign desks. Make all desks a βhotelβ desks - where people come and go.
Only keep a handful of them and let folks book for them. Like people do for conference rooms.
yup
the place I work the whole IT floor is hoteling
except one guy
he's deaf so he's got an assigned desk
so he doesn't have to carry all of his adaptive shit around
plus he has to sit where he can see the visual indicators for the fire alarm
there's a row of lockers where everybody puts their personal stuff and everybody's got the same laptop so all of the desks have dual monitors and a USB docking station
It is definitely changing the landscape for sure! We just have to wait and see.
it's been like that as long as I've worked for them
Next time I go to work, I am bringing my chair and big ass 4k monitor π
people just find a desk, do something with the IP phone and it routes their calls to wherever they're sitting
starts out WFH then ends up being VR where you get into your VR car and drive to work..
Thatβs a neat idea. Get everyone a VR goggles and have virtual meetings.
at a place I used to work we had a telepresence robot
it was a little self-balancing robot with a stick that held an iPad
Weβve forwarded physical mail and voice mails to our cell phones already
VR cause they deemed being at home as unhealthy so to counter it they do VR to make you think your leaving your house lol
so you could drive it around to meetings
Cool
they upgraded it after I left to where it could communicate with the elevators
so you could call an elevator drive it on the elevator, choose a floor, drive it off and go to a meeting on a different floor
I wonder how people will maintain social distancing in elevators.
you ever get on an elevator and stay facing the inside?
Weβve forwarded physical mail and voice mails to our cell phones already
@last plaza how do you forward physical mail to your phone?!
We have those elevator touch screens here as well. We have to select the floor before you get into the elevator. There are no controls in the elevator whatsoever.
Physical mail to our home address and voice mails to my cell @scenic radish
π€£
I meant to say there is nothing waiting for me when I go to office.
ah, i thought this was some next-level shit i hadn't heard of
yeah i knew what you meant lol
Like the USPS, they scan and send emails?
don't you mean Playdough?
sure, if you work at playboy mansion
or every page of @forest edge 's emoji pr0n mags?
If you work for Hugh huffner!
We made a prank and purchased gay magazines and shipped to one of our friendβs home address when he newly got married.
To confuse his wife π
tell ya what, if there's anything i want to be able to reload without a restart it would be the recorder, logbook, and history configs
and template sensors
balloob pls
all of the things
well that too
lol
trying not to be greedy
Pffft, aim for the stars and if you miss, some poor sod is in for a nasty surprise when it lands on them

am i a lazy piece of shit for using ipv6 for my domain's DNS records but still proxy_passing to ipv4 addresses internally or is that a typical setup
And caching
right, i mean instead of forwarding to the link-local ipv6 addresses
Proxy always IMO
Gives you a layer in which you can do things just in case the server has security issues
oh wait, i can't do that anyway because i don't have home assistant set up for ipv6
My HA install is accessible over IPv4 or IPv6, because the proxy is π
sorry, i wasn't explaining it well. i'm always gonna use NGINX but i'm using ipv4 to proxy pass to instead of ipv6
Yeah, so... π€·
was wondering if i'm being lazy or if that's typical
I'm sure there's folks doing it the other way too
if we could keep ipv4/ipv6 forever for LAN and ipv6 only for WAN that would be wonderful
though ipv6 to ipv4 NAT probably isn't ideal but it would be for legacy devices in my mind
My isp doesnβt support ipv6 yet
π±
Mine does, which is a large part of why I switched to them
That and the static IPv4 π
i guess comcast is doing something right
Eventually, when they rolled the dice enough, they had to
actually, that reminds me. people bitch about comcast constantly but i honestly haven't had any major issues with them
and any minor issues i can count on one hand

Same here with Virgin Media, had them for years without issue, and actually had some awesome customer service from them
Your distribution payment of $17.99 USD from the settlement of the class action lawsuit In re: VIZIO Inc., Consumer Privacy Litigation, No. 8:16-ml-02693-JLS, pending in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, is now available.
oh FUCK yeah bois
18 fucking USD, let's goooooooooooooo
lol i can choose from digital gift cards for amazon, target, or best buy, or an instant paypal transfer. wonder which one i'll go with
best buy where 18 bucks won't buy anything but a candy bar at check out!
But... very very random
I've had a bunch of stuff delivered days or weeks earlier than scheduled
the last few things i've ordered have come next day
I am still waiting for stuff I ordered a month ago on eBay. Intl shipping.
prime and all the amazon strikes lol
Who doesnβt have prime these days?
those who don't order amazon every other day and done seen all the "the boys" episodes?
Best $100 bucks you will ever spend. Worth free 1 day or 2 day FREE shipping.
Free shipping, next day, Prime Video, and more π
you know they offer prime for free like all the time lol
you get like 1-3 months free periodically through the year lol
just right now isn't one fo those times
Sure... but I save already based on my normal spending, so ... why wouldn't I
{% set var = 'FREE shipping' %}
{{ var.replace('FREE','prepaid') }}
yes, i'm being a pedant
The number of items we order, it would be {{ 100 * prepaid }}
i do enjoy prime
that dog you posted yesterday?
typical norwegian response
that is very misleading. as if you actually had a "town" with buildings higher than 2 stories
it's cool that it's animated as well
@forest edge I rode the bike 60 miles yesterday in one stretch, and after 40 miles or so, My butt has become numb and couldnβt feel the balls. π€£ how the hell these people ride for hours?
couldn't feel the balls
I probably need to get a touring seat!
you actually have a more comfortable seat compared to crotch rockets too lol
Not kidding! It feels like my nut sack is missing.
but over the years your butt becomes numb and evventually you feel nothing lol
lmao.
i'm already dead inside anyway
My fav character randy marsh!
@last plaza solution if you want to get the feeling in your balls back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2X7GCUhZJs
*most don't ride 40-60 in a single non-stop stretch anyways cept those who had been riding for years and are traveling on bike to diff states lol
Like this @scenic radish ?
https://media.tenor.com/images/fbf0d80ffd3b77af62dbfaf45dd638df/tenor.gif
that's a slap, not a rub
Someone told me to get a sheep skin seat cover, and others recommended I use Air Hawk seat pad. I am going to look for it.
lol
No one tells you that you need to spend around $2k on accessories and your butt will go numb before buying bike. These are the things you will learn after!
it's like exercising, us fat people always feel like we're dying after the first 100 times of walking up the gym steps
Don't lump me in with your fat ass @forest edge I only have a BMI of 59
lol
throws empty pop can
Tbh, I'm 35
again

I'm 18, again again again again again again again...
Iβm more like 28 years 200 months...
atx is probably like 64 lol
didn't know human's lived that long
boom roasted
Mic π€ drop
@last dirge never forgiving you
lol
I'm bam in the middle
i am too, born in 82, hardly feel like a millennial
I'm 332 months old
first time reading the man page for ip-address:
Warning: This command and other flush commands are unforgiving. They will cruelly purge all the addresses.
goodbye, cruel world
More man files should be like that
i like the aptitude easter egg lol
oof
Yeah, and in only a week
wow and you can't do anything without it
Should you choose not to sign up for a subscription you will no longer be able to access your Wink devices from the app, with voice control or through the API, and your automations will be disabled on May 13.
it's not even like some features are disabled, all are...
looks like they're about to have a lot of pissed off customers
yeah that's probably the final nail in the coffin
28 LIKES
wut
That's probably the number of staff left...
lmao
Like this or you're fired
i doubt they even have 28 staff left
i straight-up don't buy anything anymore unless it has a local API
or is zigbee/z-wave
That's still local API (of sorts)
true, just feels weird to say for some reason
like... the only device i have connected to home assistant that doesn't have a local API is my security system, and it supports homekit so i can connect it via homekit controller for local control
it's just not out of beta yet so it's still finicky enough for me to rely on the cloud API
The closest I have to cloud centric is voice control, and weather information
ah right, and any voice control is cloud-based, but i don't rely on that for anything critical
automations first, voice control second, manual third (or when automations aren't practical)
Tediore says, "Alexa turn on light" then reaches over and flips the light switch.
his woman complains that vvoice control isn't working and Tediore responds with, "you haven't asked me to do anything yet."
@scenic radish did you do anymore parodies?
nah, though i've actually considered it lol
ugh looks like i'm gonna make my 1000-calorie garlic cream sauce with tonight's dinner
how do you know splooge is 1000 calories?

π€¨
I've heard it measured in TBs of data. Though there's a lot of repetition, so the compressed size isn't very imperssive.
Wtf is wink
So homeautomation as a service
Lol pretty much
Why wouldn't that target market just use google home
I guess that's smartthings too
Yeah I fail to see their differentiator
sonoff uses wink
feel sorry for those people
hmm myq intergration seems to have brokered
Get with the times old man
That's been posted several times the last few daze
There's a fix on the way though
Yeah
Okay Google, what is the Times
it makes no sense that ALL tilt sensors either work with proprietary hubs or are z-wave/zigbee
Penne with grilled chicken and the Grand Sauce β’οΈ (1000-calorie homemade garlic cream sauce)
How did I know you'd make that joke
You should try sous vide
I don't have the patience for that lol
Chicken breast is a PITA to cook under direct heat
It takes like an hour with zero interaction haha
Just put it on 45 minutes before you start making the rest and play Halo inbetween
I've got it down to a science. Dip the chicken in oil before seasoning and it prevents it from burning on the grill and drying out
I love grilled meat
I have been curious about sous vide though
Poached eggs in sous vide is amazing
Only takes like 14 minutes too
I have an Anova, it was very cheap but works fine
And TBH you can use good quality ziplock bags for 90% of stuff you don't need a vacuum sealer
I have a $1000 chamber vacuum sealer but nvm that
It's a chamber vacuum so It's the same style meat packers use
It can do liquids which was a must for me since 90% of the meals I cook are sauce based
Also I have never thrown out frozen meat or meals due to freezer burn
That alone has probably paid for itself
Plus you can deep freeze stuff for years
Hey Guys, anyone running home server with traefik2+guacamole?
why can't people just do normal home networking with normal routers and devices lol
why people just cant wear trash bags and do nothing π that's why we are human π we like to complicate things
π
Penne with grilled chicken and the Grand Sauce β’οΈ (1000-calorie homemade garlic cream sauce)
@scenic radish ill take the lot thanks and the bowl
@hushed basalt the problem is with guacamole, can't figure out how to connect via ssh to the server.
Is this in a container?
