Fuckin gottem

Lmao....I need to try that with my wife
No you don't
Bad call there bud.

Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full
Sudo get me a beer
Notice the unisex stick figure in the comic.
I have an awesome wife
blink twice if you're being forced to say that
Can confirm
she got to both of you!

Nah, I don’t know him...
To Georgia?
...
eh, i wouldn't move further south
Yellowknife you say?
isn't that in Canada?
Aye
like far north canada? XD
I lolled irl at that @scenic radish
You don’t like Carolina ?
i'm ok with it
Yaaaaaas
Lmao. Cheer wine
That’s from Salisbury 😉
🥩
If I get the job I'm doing practice for here now I will probably move North back home, and work from home, but if I want to do that is another question
🇺🇸
🇳🇴
@wet pilot - sounds like you need to re-watch Team America: World Police
Merica
If I move North I will have 4 extra bedrooms and an indoor pool @scenic radish

Sounds like a personal problem
@humble pond that's one of those movies that's so stupid it's funny
Indoor pool is kinda oxymoron

Gotta love LA traffic
Gah, when is Elon ever going to do something with all that money he got selling flamethrowers?
😏
Norway out here funding the whole damn electric car industry
Apparently not. I guess that’s why he named it the Boring Company.
Wheezes
Yeah. Dad pun. Say something...
I feel for you having to deal with LA traffic. I used to live in San Diego. People on the east coast complain about Atlanta traffic. You can sit for days in California traffic.
I hear that food trucks sell food and drinks in Cali Traffic
Worst feeling ever is hitting an on ramp and then slowing to 0
Yeah, but then this happens in Atlanta with a foot of snow.
With no way out
Elongated Muskrat
Foot of snow
@humble pond I believe you mean inch
Snow-magedeon
Let me introduce you to 12 feet
My favorite video ever
@green inlet pretty much nowhere in the US is equipped to deal with that shit though
well, AFTER it's happened
An inch of snow?
an inch of snow on top of an inch and a half of craze ice
black ice?
I lived in Atlanta in 2014 and that video is so funny because of how accurate it is
then we had a temp bump which melted everything and a front blew in
I remember that a mayor was praised for foresight for having snow plows only plow the major high way
you mean like every other second day in norway @last dirge ? 🤣
I was working smack dab in the middle of downtown
as soon as it started snowing I noped the fuck out on the subway
Atlanta doesn't have the cash or money to have tons of snow infrastructure for the 1 day a year it snows.
then drove like 4MPH home from the station
Did you get stuck?
no
I live in Norcross
I rode the train to Doraville
then creeped my ass home up Buford Hwy
@clear ferry can you see the northern lights where you live?
where I'm born yes
I know hind sight is 20/20 but the weather channel, which is in Atlanta, was telling people for like 5-7 days that snow-magedeon was coming
does it make noise?
noise?
It's sun hitting the magnetic field afaik
i've never heard of the northren lights ever making any human hearable nopise
I wanna go to this place
During the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø 21-25 January the participants got toe experience several nights with amazing aurora displays. This sequence was taken at 01 AM on the 25th January from the roof terrace of hotel The Edge. Unfortunately I did not bring the tri...
imagine if it's was a high pitch whine noise lol
I haven't been north in the winter for..... 13 years
Can’t blame you
@forest edge I figured it may make noise like hydro lines do
Nope, but your phone mic can pick up an RSA key from the noise a CPU makes, so maybe that could work to listen in.
sounds like this with a radio microphone https://youtu.be/Zcef943eoiQ?t=84
As well as the visible green or red glow of the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights), there is also created an intense radio emission that can be converted to sound.
Professor Carolin Crawford here explains the phenomena and introduces us to that sound of the Aurora Borealis...
is there a way to make YouTube fill up the window it's in without filling the screen?
I'd imagine they record when there are auroras and without
Everybody should travel to Northern Norway
Don't listen, it's a trap
Reverse psychology
Northern Norway is actually a hidden civilisation with it's own warm sunny microclimate
They just pretend it's frigid and remote to keep us away
@forest edge scientists in that field should have no problem identifying the source of any signals
It's like a basic expectation. Like how your mechanic should be able to identify a car from a motorcycle
yea I don't think it's quite that simple when your pointing a microphone towards space lol
"yeah, it's definitely that thing right there" - guy with radio telescope
There's probably a 1000 methods they can use to determine origin
Especially when it's so close and space is so so so far away
I bet it really fucks with all RF transmissions
@last dirge I doubt it, atx amongst others who live close that have made several mentions of running rf devices for ha
there's absolutely no way that it doesn't
if it really messed with things, you'd think they would have pinpointed the issue and stopped using rf lol
it might not mess with short-range stuff but it's gotta hammer cell and radio stuff
coins in the phone receiver?
I vote gaydar
@last dirge do you know any pawn shops or smaller shops that sell used music gear ?
I said you're more likely to find guns and electronics
I thought that was someone else 🤣

it's raining cats and dogs here in alpharetta
@clear ferry it's bullshit
so I'm glad I got in when I did 🤣
when I can see the water running downhill from 60 meters away, it's raining pretty good 🤣
were you here yet when it rained for 3 days a while ago?
nah, it was the start of last week
it rained about as hard as it is right now for a whole day
then about half this hard for another 2 days
my dogs were pissed

anybody know the name of the drum that this bird sounds like?
The booming mating call of the male Kori Bustard. They really are an odd kind of bird, being able to produce such loud and booming sounds. But he really does give it his all for his lady in the background!
yeah
it's crazy

actual video of australian people trying to use the internet
that's hilarious to me
I need didgeridialup in my life
I had a mind explosion when I found out how they were made
will this make me angry?
David Gilmour in Concert, a DVD of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour's solo concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London in June 2001, as part of the Robert Wyatt-curated Meltdown festival
that's proper BBC voices @hushed basalt
So apparently my Chromebook supports installing legacy firmware which enables me to dual-boot ChromeOS and Linux without fucking around with the system too much
So I did it
🎉
that looks like live video from tinkerers house though
@hushed basalt funny how close they get isn't it?
the hair dryer part pulling power from any location on any wall sounds like a dangerous addition but you know..
I never saw the need for that @scenic radish I can get all I need so far from the linux terminal, except the passthrough of USB devices for flashing firmware 🤔
It's pretty close though
Haven't got windows that can turn into walls or tvs though
they've been showing that off for a few years now
yea
No one wants a clear screen though
would be useful for autonomous cars
yup
could see it being useful for aircraft HUDs
could probably get creative with architecture
huds would be perfect
lol
i made the mistake of putting my wife on speakerphone once with the baby near by
is that a mistake ? 🤔
she lost her mind
lol
the baby doesn't care much if we aren't there, as long as the other one is there
mines mine that for as long as she could move 🤣
15mo and already throwing herself to the ground during tantrums
why would you subject your kids to this lmao https://youtu.be/4Rl-NofKJ9A
no tantrums here, but she gives talk-back if we try to tell her not to do anything, then still does it 🤣
has managed to hurt herself during that maneuver a few times but still does it anyway
there is no out of sight out of mind in this baby, if I hid something when she was 6 months she would search for it like a trufflehunting pig
oh yeah, pulls that too.
@scenic radish still got that best buy smart plug thing you were havving issues with?
@forest edge I do indeed
apparently that whole reboot lockdown thing was pretty common amongst many devices but it gives you a 2 second window to use a kill command via a uart to bypass that to access to reflash or whatever you want lol
kill -9 $(ps | grep 'reboot' |sed -r -e 's/^ ([0-9]+) [0-9+/\1/') within that 2 second window and your in lol
I'm in
your done after 2 seconds? 😜
Ooooh interesting
reading this bit about these college kids who hacked like 150 devices using the tx/rx on the boards cause the software engineers for the firmware on the devvices simply just didn't care about trying to make it hard lol
🤢
I didn't even know there were android refridgerators made back in the 2013/2014
Oh, we've had them over here I think for atleast that long atleast smart ones in total from Samsung
But I don't know a single person that has one
thing had wifi and a sdcard slot
thats pretty good for that age
was like android 2.3 lol
don't think manufactures cared, plus 2.3 was probably easier to work with
where did you hear that about the best buy plug?
2 lived long past its due date
it wasn't about the plug specifically it was part of the blip these college kids were talking about when mentioning the 150 devices they hacked
but that whole reboot bit was common practice these manifactures put in place to try and keep people from hacking them
when it couldn't make a connection
and i remembered you had said something about that
@clear ferry noway, i love upgrading old devices
I found a guide that talks about adding a esp8266 to a non-smart tv that has hdmi cec and using that to give it local network control of the tv lol
yea and if it was a smart tv with say a usb port that accepted media
you could network drive it lol
Also I found a way to basically use a flippy boi on my Philips hue bridge
There's no way to customize what a button press on one of the switches does when it's before/after sunset with the hue app or third party apps, but you can set up a rule on the bridge to flip a boolean at sunrise/sunset and use the state of that boolean with the switch rules
So I have an "automation* on the bridge to flip that bool at the appropriate times
I wonder if someone came out with a firmware for the hue bridge itself
There's a working method to get root but not sure if there's custom firmware
Don't think you can do much with root on the bridge other than see that sweet sweet ASCII art
And brag about it I guess lol
half the devices these kids hooked a uart to spat back a complete listing of all the current available commands they could issue through the uart to control the various devices. and half of those devices the manufactures had claimed they cut off all uart access lol
Fuckin liars
There's a listening telnet port on my security system gateway. ncrack ran for 2 hours (50000 attempts) with no luck
I found a youtube of the same kids I think. https://youtu.be/h5PRvBpLuJs
Which is good but also disappointing
I was reading an articlke, this has pictures lol
I was saying the manufacturers are liars
For saying they disabled uart
Not the kids
Though... Kids are liars sometimes
yea I know, this was 2014 so shit these days i would think would be diffrent. check 7:20 in the video
they show a wemo but the article i was reading said just about all the devices were same that was like that
but it shows that command lol
have fun with that 2 seconds. uarts are cheap worth trying lol
I could give it a shot haha
Oh gosh, greenwave...
Shite
I'm saving this video to watch later
lol there is alot of crap in there
saver
It's almost 0100 so... Bedtime
those older zigbee devices able to be hacked would be worth something lol
is mommy gonna tuck \you in?
6.5 here
I'll grab a Bang on the way to work
9a meeting but wfh 😄
@forest edge can u?
sure thing but i have gas tonight
pls
Lol
Actually...one last question. What do your significant others think about talking to internet peoples on this app all the time?
depends on her mood
? it's 2020
I refer to you guys as my "internet friends" lol
now if this was 1996ish then it would be weird
Wtf. You're right. Why does that feel weird
"Home automation? 🤨 "
is her typical remark
yea mine always thought i was weird 😐
so much time on quake and ut99
and yahoo chatrooms lol
even watched the planes crash into the trade center while on the pc next to the tv
uhoh TInkerer is awake. I know i'm up too late now
Yup
Hi @clever mortar. You being up now means @wet pilot and I are up way too late
either way 😛
🤔 hmm. Good point night
As long as you don't need to get up for work in about 4 hours...
Ehh 6 for me
eh, 6ish
But that's what Bang is for
20 min commute. Can't complain
5 if i wanna sound bad
WFH has serious advantages
yep, go downstairs, wake up my computer, dial in and then go make coffee
I enjoy those days. I can get more done too, due to a relative lack of interruptions
its chilly right now, so i'll throw on some sweats
Good night all. Everyone, pls check out my new bot command in #botspam , much appreciated
Very important addition
lol input_bool really lol
I'm in the middle of transfering from nginx to traefik.
Currenly running traefik behind nginx for practice. Just learned that doesn't work well with ssl.
i also have one machine still running traefik behind nginx because I haven't figured out all the host rules yet
hi
i search the .well-known directory in home assistant ( hassio installation (vhd on synology VM ))
@rose flare For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related, like whether Docker or Kubernetes, or Celcius or Kelvin, or Celcius or Celsius, or anything. NO POLITICS or RELIGION and BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently.
Questions relating to Home Assistant are off topic in this channel
Please ask in #330944238910963714
sorry, my bad english
@low harness It annoys me that Traefik calls itself an "Edge Router". Mainly as I'm still working a lot with network folk, and that term is getting overloaded!
I guess technically it's a thing that sits on the edge and routes things
"You are technically correct - the best kind of correct".
From Futurama season 2, episode 14 - "How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back".

This is nuts! https://publicbydefault.fyi/
How far stupid are some people?
@strange vapor public transfers, that's pretty strange
People can be very trusting
my grandmother nearly got scammed by someone claiming I'd been in a car accident in las vegas and needed itunes gift cards
thankfully the clerk at the store was like "ma'am your son is fine. Someones tryin' to scam you."

I've known apparently intelligent people who've been caught in confidence scams
Somebody who fell for the we've got some spare material left from a resurfacing job line to fork over a few thousand pounds to have the work driveway and path "resurfaced". A quick slapping of some tarmac and a few K later, they have an unsafe and unsightly driveway and path, and are wondering if they'll be fired when the boss gets back
(They didn't, but they did have to pay it all back)

Yup, people are idiots overly trusting
It couldn't possibly happen to them, after all
🙄
On the bright side, stupidity pays the bills
I don't trust anybody I'm not in family or work relations with, and even then I don't trust them blindly
But that is just my personality
Trust but verify
My mom seems to be learning to do that.
Exactly
There's pretty much nobody I'll trust blindly. I will trust people that have demonstrated themselves to be trustworthy, in the absence of any evidence or suggestion that they're wrong/confused/lying
She got a call from the "IRS" and asked me about it and I told her "Don't they send letters and not phone calls?"
Well, yeah, clients lie
They lie constantly
Usually about what they know 😛
I need to work on my own honesty
I have a tendency to want to say yes/say what I think someone wants to hear."
I work with folks like that, who default to yes even when the answer is clearly no
That is frustrating as hell, because that makes things worse
Best thing to do is to be honest, but you don't have to make it seem like you're an idiot at the same time 😉
I still often end up saying things like I didn't understand that or nope, not a clue
Sometimes, with the right folks, it's some version of I understood all those words, but not how you used them 😄
I had a colleague who said yes to anything
Like troubleshooting huge SANs
And that never ended well
I ended up ignoring him when he asked for help
Wonder if I met that colleague... 🤔
And he quit in the end because he got no jobs done
He's German/Nørwëgiån
So you'd know
I tried to forget them
Has anyone used OpenFLIXR? (https://www.openflixr.com/)
I had the "pleasure" of them (whoever they were) trying to troubleshoot SAN issues, and it became clear they didn't know what they were doing. It's a bad sign when I know more about the hardware and protocols for something I have only a few days of experience of...
Can't see that it gives me anything I don't already have @undone pagoda
ended up dropping the session with them and fixing it myself...
@clever mortar then it's time to tell them to leave
as I am loathe of the idea of overstating what I can do
but once i'm on the job it's when I have the problem of wanting to say yes to my boss/coworkers.
I wrote a detailed and to the point email to the relevant folks, pointing out their delusions of adequacy @clear ferry
Delusions of adequacy, sounds like a nice prog rock band name
That is a good name
I'll say yes if I reasonably believe I can do something, even if I've never done it before. I do have a slightly extensive set of experiences allowing me to find hats to pull rabbits out of though 😄
Dunning-Krueger doesn't roll of the tongue as well
I've been told often that I need to work on my confidence.
It's hard, and the difference between confidence and arrogance often gets overlooked by those who're lacking the skills to back their mouth
“You have imposter syndrome,” He says, “but paradoxically, that’s often a sign of competence. Only people who understand their work well enough to be intimidated by it can be terrified by their own ignorance. It’s the opposite of Dunning-Kruger syndrome, where the miserably incompetent think they’re on top of the job because they don’t understand it.”
― Charles Stross, The Labyrinth Index
yeah
Well thank you for the kind words
I've got that something fierce
and then I look at stuff done by others who are supposedly my same level
then it kinda goes away
I've had the pleasure and challenge of working with people who're great, in their field. I look at what they do, and I'm blown away. Not often enough does it really sink in that they look at me the same way...
Interesting.....
I've worked with a few folks who'd I'd classify as scary smart - the kinds of folks who you know could be running a country from behind the scenes, if they wanted to
Thankfully, only enough of those to make me feel like I'm not really smart enough 😛
👍
😒
Actually, we're all canines...
everyone on discord is a bot except you
including you 😉
oh shit
knock knock, Neo
Plus got them to start using some saas's
I have no issue telling my boss I have no idea what I am doing with something.
Gotta embrace those sweet sweet SaaS
I'd rather set correct expectations than end up in a dumpster fire getting all stressed out.
anyone hear those commercials on the radio talking about how all home automation relies on good internet?
I cringe and want to punch a baby.
Never done that before, but I can probably work it out
@rain swift i sometimes fear my manager gets annoyed because i ask so many questions but it's for a similar reason
also no, i haven't heard ads like that but i would also cringe
The question I try to teach folks to ask is ... what's the goal?
I'd rather ask questions than break something, I hate being the one who broke something, I hate being the center of negative attention.
I've broken many things
i hate being the center of attention period lol
Some of them being not insignificant
except here where i can post as many images as i want
After the first time you get dragged over the coals, the following times seem less painful
I've broken stuff, but I try hard not to
Eh, sometimes you have to break things to learn
I managed over five months to not get my coworker to ask my boss to fire me
so that's nice
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Though he did tell me once "The bar is at the floor Doc. Try not to trip over it"
That's why I know Linux still functions with a load average of about 5 to 10 times the number of cores...
I think I'm going to get myself kicked from the Traefik slack
I don't take kindly to people who belittle people who don't know what they know
Except for atxbyea, belittling him is a community past time
Guess @clear ferry is finally doing some actual work. Not here the last 10 minutes.
Must be busy trying to navigate the support lines IVR
Please listen... Closely.... As our menu....options... Have...... Change...d
HP hardware never works... Job security for @clear ferry !!
Better than some, which work long enough to lull you into a false sense of security 😉
Thank goodness I work with HPE hardware :p
Just when you think you have a stable base to build other things ontop of
A jolly Norwegian plays around in your DC and it all goes to hell
@clear ferry Ye really need to get better at deciding what your called.. Looking at the output of dmidecode here, and for the same model of server ordered at the same time, I'm seeing HP, HPE and Hewlett Packard as the Manufacturer!
Sort of disappointed that there's no mention of Compaq!
not Dell
Or Digital ?
brown 🤢
cheese 🤢
Or you could do the rebranded Chinese ones that are H3C
the letter b 🤢
One of the lads here got an Ebay Special Cisco switch from China. Definitely legiit Cisco hardware, but the firmare had been updated to report all ports as OK.
Steven Wardley thinks that serverless will take over everything shortly and half of those functions will be written by AI
In this case, it was reporting 48 ports ok in a 24 port switch....
I'm sceptical
@strange vapor 🤣
sounds like regular cisco firmware
worse, I've heard
Haven't had to deal with them directly in years, but not hearing anything good from people who are dealing with them.
It felt like an overly cryptic system, kept cryptic to enable gatekeeping and sell certification
even their SOHO-level stuff was like that
And had a "reputation" of complex but rock solid enterprise reliability, but didn't stand up to scrutiny
well... we rolled in some switches for a customer a few years back, we rolled in 128 10G ports and 256 1G ports plus 20 40G ports for the same price as a single 32port 10G module on a cisco switch
so it must be nice to have money to spend
I worked at a place that bought a Cisco router with WAP
I know they made some change recently which broke auto provisioning here. Lots of less than happy people in the row behind me.
and it took me like 4 days to figure out how to set it up
I feel like it's all stuff that should just be simply defined in a one page yaml document
But it feels like you're learning assembly
In french
roses are red
violets are blue
you hate YAML
it hates you too
Yaml is life
terminal/SSH for those that want to use it
I'll cut you @scenic radish
@hushed basalt In the network world it's all Yang, which can be XML or JSON
....json
Let's use javascript object notation to write configuration
I like JSON
All the manufacturers seem to read the specs differently, so there's a whole ecosystem of vendors doing the magic to generate cross platform Yang!
Because something made to parse objects into strings to pass between services is the best configuration syntax
Yaml is json
It's just readble and writable
as is JSON if you pretty-print it
Ehhhh
in fact, YAML is a superset of JSON
I visited an ISP recently where everything was managed with a few expect scripts which had been written over the course of 10 years...
They literally ssh'd, or in one cases telnetted, into the devices and lets the expect script do it's thing!
Vanilla json has no advantage over yaml for configuration
It just has a lot of redundant brackets and trailing comma gotchas. And I find it a lot easier to mess up scope
I'm looking at you vscode
@strange vapor nothing like "it works for us"
Ask blockbuster how "it works for us" went
i despise writing JSON
@hushed basalt I tend to write small python scripts to generate the JSON as there's less likely to be silly errors
And debugging syntax errors in a python script is easier than debugging bloody json\
Could you write in yaml then parse up to json?
But yeah python definitely works too
Beautiful beautiful trailing commas
Time for sleep
Groceries come 5-9am tomorrow
And it's 10.37
See I used exact minutes this time, for the pedantic ones :D
python and yaml both have the stupid arcane reliance on whitespace formatting
I can't say I've ever had a whitespace problem in 2 years of dealing with python or yaml
you're a damn liar
I've definitely had problems of bracket scoping in JS and json
And any readable code will be indented exactly like python would anyways
And god damn trailing commas
Computers should work for us not the other way around
Yeah I'd rather deal with indentation than braces or commas
And semicolons
So redundant
Everyone always puts a carriage return after every semicolon
So many quotes for key value pairs...
@hushed basalt but not every carriage return is the end of a statement so...
It is in Python :D
no it's not
Well you can break things over multiple lines like arguments
🤏
go look at the code for FORBIDDEN_TOPIC
heh
88 characters is good
and don't even get me started on the stupidity of "indentation matters unless you do this and then it all gets reset"
88 characters is bullshit
nobody's developing on an AMIGA
Python has an annoying convention of 4 spaces too
But 88 seems okay,
Especially when you have three files open side by side
So I'd just like to say after using Python/jinja2 I now have to really think about what I'm doing in Excel formulas
Especially MID() because Excel is 1 indexed 😒
Hehe
I really hate how AWS doesn't give you a remote desktop console for windows boxes.
what the hell amazon.
And comparison operators are different
Microsoft is doing some amazing stuff
@scenic radish everything in java is zero-indexed
But screw having to rdp into a server
!= in Python is <> in excel
Ugh
i mean, they don't do for linux either
so you can't see if its booting or what the hell its doing
I mean a remote console
And why is the first line in code line 1 and not line 0 HMMMMMMMMMMM?
what kinda vm infrastructure doesn't give you a remote console
is my box stuck updating? stuck on some error? who knows.
its about as shitty as their roku app lol
Speaking of which, I have a spare Roku ultra that it currently unused, what should I do with it
It's a prototype I got for free in a beta test so I can't sell it
Buy A tv for it
Display cameras?
Sold
But it's really just a Jamie Oliver YouTube playlist on repeat
can't sell it? will it phone home and taddle on you?
I miss Jamie Oliver stuff when he wasn't a mega celebrity
@clear ferry so what did you end up having last night ?
i'll just see if i can root the roku ultra and install FORBIDDEN TOPIC on it
Never used Roku, gotta try it out one day.
it's meh
i thought it was decent
my Shield TV kicks the shit out of any of the rokus I've had
but i also got it for free so there's a little bias lol
Shield here as well
Nice.
n 🧊 !
Had Brazilian with Balloob & dshokouhi. HA night in LA
@clear ferry if you're going to do a table service restaurant tonight you should definitely do opentable
Oooh, I've never had brazilian
the man himself!
Yep. Last time was wings and beer this time was better.
@clear ferry there are a lot of gaucho style restaurants in Atlanta
did he wear his fancy bath robe?
I'm going to be honest with you, downtown atlanta was just depressing
I walked around for a few hours, but it wasn't very nice
@last dirge no lol
probably yes, I have no idea about the names of the areas
where were you?
but 20 minutes in each direction from world of coke
you went TO something obviously
i should really put together a chicago home assistant meetup
yeah, that area's kind of shitty
but you are the only one who has a home in chicago teddi
Sad we dont have many in LA must put something together.
your message looks funny after mine brian lol
ha
@clear ferry you should go to The Vortex in little 5 points and walk around in that area
or you could go to The Flatiron in East Atlanta and walk around in that area
I probably have free time this weekend
no you won't
or The EARL in east Atlanta
you'll be eating all the cherry things
I should just rent a 🚙 or a 🏎️ and drive to teddi for some 🍒
Transit in ATL a lot but never spent time. One of these days.
It's a nice airport, quite busy they say
Hate it
the busiest
Always damn delays and changes
If you ever fly via europe, don't do layovers at charles de gaulle
it's the shittiest airport in the world
GET OUT OF MY HEAD CHARLES
@tidal bronze I think FLL is my least favorite airport
I love CDG smoking areas all over. Can be shitty all day
I quit smoking 13 years ago, so I don't care about that feature 🤣
That's the first thing I look for.
I think helsinki also has indoor smoking
@tidal bronze you're gonna hate next time through Atlanta then
no mas fumar
no more cancer rooms
Was in Vegas recently. Was strange seeing indoor smoking.
Need to bring the wife and kid to reykjavik when she gets older
supposedly very nice
and soothing
Best place by far. Specially if you do the entire island driving. Worked there a lot.
I would imagine, it's very much used for filming locations
just don't put your money in their banks
Yep
did you eat the fermented shark fin ?
Specially black sands. Yes. Like everything except the damn cranberry sauce on meat.
🤣
Iceland is nice place
come over to norway and I'll get the wife to serve moose or raindeer
Next year should be heading that way.
norwat
heh
those are illegal, at least in the US
doesn't prevent manufacturers from including them though
what about moose and squirrel?
@strange vapor yep Vegas smoking areas are nice as well 😀 outdoor inside terminal
we don't eat squirrel, that is for yokles
OH man I remember a Joystick reviewer did a 10 minute video on those stickers
"These sticks are just a big FUCK YOU from the manufacturer."
pretty much
so @clear ferry galliumOS is butt-ugly and there's no support for the touchscreen or even the numeric keypad on my chromebook so i went back to straight chromeOS lol
ayyyyye
it was cool trying out the dual boot though
although the OS VERIFICATION IS DISABLED screen on boot is annoying
BEEP BEEP
plus i guess the built-in linux support is supposed to get better
@scenic radish a youtuber I watch made and sold teflon knives for a while
they remove tamper-evident stickers without any evidence of tampering
oooh that's pretty cool
This is a video reply to EEVBlog https://youtu.be/colVXihqdGo showing an easy way to do it with a static bag. His way is cheaper and simpler, but I made a diy teflon knife to do the same thing. It works well even on large stickers. If the bag trick doesn't work for you, this ...
also super unrelated but the cloudflare feature that hides your WAN IP by proxying the domain through them is pretty cool
fuck that was almost 5 years ago now
that's cool. i'm guessing the idea is you can remove the sticker and put it back on without showing any wear?
@clear ferry some of my favs. Place is magical. 😄
Was not looking for it but was crazy driving 1 North
I wanna see the lights!
@scenic radish yeah
most of those tamper evident stickers have text that shows up when you pull them off
It's amazing.
I can't afford it
get a sugarmommy
because I'm putting like 45% of my salary into retirement 🙂
like my wife with almost 100K in student loans?
I think 7 more years and that should be erased
as long as the PSLF program doesn't get ratfucked
that whole thing is interesting too, in norway employers put money into our retirement by law, a minimum value, but they can put in more, I think mine puts in double what the minimum is, and I can save on top of that, but even if I don't do that I would still have $80k a year if I retire at 67
Have you looked into property/rental? @last dirge
@tidal bronze I'm an accidental landlord, yo
There you go
bought a house in 05
Get into few more accidents.
in 08 it was worth like 92 grand less than I bought it for
I still can't sell it for what I paid
and I've got something like 30 grand in losses that I can't take advantage of on my taxes
and that number only seems to grow
lemme message you 🙂
But market should have closed the gap by now ?
I'd still have to bring money to the table to close if I sold it
due to my cost basis going down due to depreciation
we are on the uprise in norway still with house prices, when I bought in 08 it was a dip in the marked, so I paid $220k for it, now I could probably get $400k for it on the open marked,
the house I live in we bought 7ish years ago
for 252
I could probably sell it for 380
so not bad
We have around 26% bump in LA market last 8 years
The Programmers’ Credo: we do these things not because they are easy, but because we thought they were going to be easy

@clear ferry blyat join the Live Stream
@jaunty summit it showed up in my google news feed today
Woohoo, another house sold, just need to get this last one on the market and we're golden!
So ready to be done with all this crap
And the doorbell is on the way, expected 4 days early!
selling in the low season? O.o
You do realize markets are different everywhere, right?
They're the highest ever, here
yeah but winters are usually slow/low on average
Not here, or any growing city, really.
@boreal pewter what live stream ?
CLT is kinda messed up right now. low supply all year and none in the winter
realtor friend suggested i wait on the re-fi for a few more months so that the comps can start trending up more in the spring
There's a shortage of housing here, we've gone up over 400% on all our properties, which for the most part is really great. Except this last house has been a money pit.
@clear ferry it got blocked by one with the ability, good stuff is prohibited here 😛
Maybe if you'd asked first...
Discord function 😄
Somebody decide to live stream a game they were playing... 🤦
Tinkerer you didn't mean me, did you? 😄
🤔
For the asking part
Well, yeah, streaming random non-HA stuff here... asking first would have been smarter 😉
(you'd still have been shut down though 😛 )
Well, tbh, my game stream would probably be more entertaining in 10 min than the comon use it has in a week? 😄
the american keyboard starts to make more and more sense to me
maybe I should migrate to one at home
No, don't move on their side!
especially since I write in english 99% of the time
Use the Australian English keyboard, upside down 😉
get away with your QWERTZ @boreal pewter
løl
This Parks and Rec isn't too bad, but the comedy is really hit or miss.
Mmm maybe. This one has more misses than most. You can tell at most times they're trying really hard. But there's some nuggets of gold that catches me off guard
But what do I know, I like bad movies and music
@last dirge same! i was like 128 cores 🤔 that could be a fast HA
@steel urchin favorite The Office prank?
Lol I don't even know right now
I have a bad memory for stuff like that
You're gonna make me rewatch that 🤓
@jaunty summit 128 cores ? those are rookie numbers, gotta up those numbers
if only that m.2 slot supported a drive
im pretty satisfied with my m.2 slot:
yup 4k.
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Volume | Select-Object Label, BlockSize | Format-Table -AutoSize
Label BlockSize
GamesVMs 4096
Recovery 4096
OS 4096
1024
@jaunty summit what tool are you using to get that?
powershell
I had some issues with a customer expanding a 48TB LUN to 64TB
turns out 4K blocks will only get you to 52TB or something
so had to create a new LUN with 8K blocks and migrate everything to that one
fun times
well that explains why i had so much loss with my new nas... I lost 17TB to parity and block size... 10TB was for parity...
How many drives ?
8
and RAID6 ?
5
that sounds a lot, what capacity ?
8x wd pro 10TB
that should bring you down to 65TB usable
ish
not sure if I would ever run 8 x 10 TB drives in RAID5 though
my last synology lasted 7yr zero issues. sold it to a buddy of mine
yeah. it took me 5 days for 17tb
i would have lost my mind for 48
thats with a LAG inplace
it was already a 2PB box that was 88% full, so it took some time to level out
ouch
but it is fast enough
hi

lo
l
i have kind of general questions about using homeassistant with smart plug dimmers
tediore is like the Sumo wrestler from streetfighter

🤣

thousand hand slap
how can she slap?!
Linus gonna retire at 30ish lol
need someone to @møds
That'll make it exciting again
Tediore, your up. it's your big moment.
@mæds you say ?
don't tempt me
them weird letters, why not just use @måds
I played a bit of Superhot VR. Punched the wall twice trying to hit a bad guy in the face and hit the ceiling lamp trying to catch a gun in the air. I need more room 😢
lol need higher ceilings
my first floor has taller then average ceilings, its kinda nice
this pretty much 😄
Thankfully the rift s controllers have the ring pointing backwards, so when that happens only the fist hits the wall and not the controller. Unlike with that poor bastard who broke his 😦
traefik 2.0 makes me want to stab someone
cant get the dam certs to generate on demand
Rift S was the first one I thought was affordable enough at 400€. VR lacks a killer app and overall the content is pretty limited. The tech still has some way to go too for it to be great
