@last dirge Alpharetta

where in Alpharetta?
Around windward parkway area
you a software dev?
Tinkerer, I followed your website to move everything to an external drive. Pretty easy to verify that the HAss logs are writing to the drive. How can I verify that /var/log is actually on the external instead of the SD card?
Software ๐คข
I do cool stuff with small and big machines ๐
robots?
That's an odd way to describe users...
Expensive space heaters...
Atleast it isn't dell ๐คข
It's ok, just American cities aren't built for walking anyway ๐
I'm over in Norcross
DC and NY are ok for walking, at least more centrally
Otherwise, yeah... car not so optional
I need the exercise anyway, on account of being a fat bastard
there's an exceptionally good doughnut shop kind of "near" you
Dutch Monkey Doughnuts
they kick major ass
(I was there earlier today)
@clever mortar aye , NYC, Atlantic city, Washington was ok
Boston is pretty
Most of what I've seen has been anything but pedestrian friendly though, but once you're out of the big cities there's lots of pretty countryside
I'm curious what is in the international Aisle here, in Sweden it is 90% American food, guessing it won't be Swedish food ๐
Is this your first time in the US?
The international aisle in the grocery store will mostly be a mix of Hispanic and Asian
No, I've been three times before
But never outside big cities really
And exactly right, Asian and Latino
Just not a big fan of Georgia ๐. Glad it is not your first impression
My only trip there, Atlanta, wasn't at all bad
@last dirge @clear ferry Absolutely
Ended up at a random bar, serving local food and music, was a very good evening
@clear ferry where are you based? I am in Suwanee
I lived there 15 years. I might be biased
oh nice...we are all in the north....so should be easy to meet up some place close
I need to get down to Atlanta to the coke factory, need to buy my dad some pressies. ๐
@green inlet I lived there 39 years so far ๐
I am sorry
the ol' tourist trap
luckily...Atlanta has only a couple of touristy places ๐
@clear ferry the aquarium is really nice, if you're into that sort of stuff
and it's right next door to the Coke Museum
Aye, I enjoy zoos atleast
the zoo is pretty good too but I think they're doing major renos
and some of the animals are likely off-exhibit due to the weather
Yeah, it's piss cold here now, and I'm from the 69th parallel north
they're putting in a new "African savannah" where it looks like all of the savannah animals are in the same enclosure
@clear ferry yeah that humidity's a bitch, huh?
summer should be a good time then to take the kids to the zoo
hopefully, it will all be ready by then
it might be open actually
looks like it finished on time
If you can, try and make it to Daddy Dz BBQ.
last time I drove by there there was a ton of construction going on where there used to be that secondary parking lot and the picnic pavillion
@green inlet abso-fuckin-lutely
Just take a gun ๐คฃ
it looks like a total shithole but they've got some of the best ribs I've ever had
woo.. my crazy test worked
surge supressor -> ATS + surge supressor -> UPS -> ATS == atuomatic switched power
@green inlet mmm BBQ, now I'm hungry for lunch
so now if the UPS dies or freaks out, the device keeps running and I can hotswap the UPS
I hate UPS's, they always die in some bizzaro way that takes down everything behind them, and I have to uncable everything. This makes the whole thing a FRU.
UPS is easy, just connect one psu to land line , one to ups
Switch online
No problems
If you only have one psu, use a switcher
It's a pdu that has two lines in and a button to switch if you haven't seen it
I have lots of customers who use it for modems and stuff
right, thats what this setup does, but it's automatic instead of a switch
ahh.. I think no override on this one
I use that when I do maintenance
but this one lets me use a non-sine-wave ups, so, bonus.
I found cheerwine
not datacenter quality, but hey, not a datacenter. ๐
Automatic transfer switch
That is the name of the device
@last dirge best place for lunch on windward?
what side of 400 are you on?
Eeeee right now I'm at Kroger at windward commons
that's West, BTW
there's a good Korean place nearby
E.M.BOP
there's a Poke place too, Poke Fresh
around where you are is a lot of chain type stuff
there's stuff that's less chainy on the other side of 400 but it's totally not walkable
Korean I can dig
there's also an Ippolitos not too far
italian, local chain
they've got 3-4 places around Atlanta
that looks like it's at the front of the shopping center you're in
there's a place called South City Kitchen that's in the lobby of the Avalon hotel that's exceptionally good
I highly recommend the shrimp and grits there
E m bop is walkable
yeah
I'll go there ๐
they'll be open by the time you get there
there's a ton of good food in the Avalon shopping center if you want to try to go there sometime
you'd have to get a ride
No problem i have company account at lyft
I find your lack of pedestrian crossings deplorable
๐
haha
Tbh, I've been out of the hotel for 3 hours, I haven't seen a single other pedestrian
๐
Remember my first trip to the US, we needed a car to get across the road... ๐คฆ
Needless to say, I jaywalked ๐
In other words, I'm the easy to spot tourist
Like when I walk in a t-shirt in Barcelona in December
Spicy nacho Doritos are delicious @clear ferry
Specifically spicy nacho, not original
Although the original are good
I haven't seen that one, need to look out for it
@clever mortar had a colleague who jaywalked in Texas once, in the middle of the night with no cars for miles around
Gardetto's original snack mix is really good too, especially if you like Worcestershire sauce
Then just out of nowhere ๐

Yeah, many parts of the US don't like pedestrians jaywalking
Super dumb
Well, strolling across 8 to 10 lanes of traffic probably isn't a sensible thing
Smart jaywalking means nobody's at risk
Well if we're talking about an expressway then yeah
Otherwise city streets? Just don't be an idiot
I've crossed on NO WALK plenty of times because there wasn't anyone near me
I've crossed worse roads than an empty "express" way
And this is the loop in Chicago where it's busy during the day
Yeah expressway is apparently very much a Chicago thing, people are confused when I say that sometimes lol
Growing up, if you didn't learn how to safely cross the road, you'd never get across. Yes, sometimes that means cutting through gaps in traffic, but ... you either learn to guess speeds well, or learn to fly ...
Also tinkerer I figured out why I was having trouble with Tasker connecting to my VPN automagically. I had battery optimization enabled for the openvpn app
Yep lol
More like
Eh, mine turns out to have been broken for months, after the app updated and the intents changed
Is it just me or does Linux make people want to bash themselves in the head?
Heh bash
Unix is user friendly. It's just really picky about who it's friends with ๐
Tediore got it
I'm gonna zsh you in the face
Well it hates me lol
Y
I'm trying to get network settings right on a Proxmox host and holy frick it's just. Not. Working.
Layer 8
Yup
If you're setting a static IP, the way of doing that has changed a lot
Easier to do it in DHCP
I can't get DHCP working at all. Static IP is the only way it will work, and only with the IP I gave it when I installed
My router...does not like static IPs. I have two smart plugs that I tuya-converted and flashed ESPHome firmware on and set a static IP outside the DHCP pool. My router says "IP address unknown" lol
Tinkerer, after moving everything, HAss canโt connect to the MQTT broker. Any idea why?
#330944238910963714 @green inlet
If DHCP isn't working, you've got bigger issues @daring inlet
and what router is this?
I don't wanna talk about it
still using the google thing?
nah the dhcp server itself works fine, for several VLANs even (pfsense)
hell, I can even connect to the VMs that proxmox is hosting, but I just can't get the dang network config right heh
lol
I haven't bothered buying a different one yet
google... thing?
Google WiFi router
they... make those? ๐ค
well those weren't meant to be used by people who actually want to do stuff, they were meant for people who know dick about routing and just want something that works lol
giggles like a schoolgirl at @scenic radish
๐ญ
Lol
Also @clear ferry I don't know what the coffee situation is in Georgia but Dunkin donuts has better coffee than Starbucks
Fite me anyone who disagrees
Inb4 ๐คข
Only had Donuts there ever
Yeah the donuts and coffee are good
I am picky with my coffee
I like it the most when I drink it at home
where I can fill my cup with sugar and sometimes add coffee
mkay so like, for networking in linux there's really just \etc\hosts and \etc\network\interfaces right? Or is there more crap somewhere else?
No
There is a lot lot lot
More
Those two are true for some os, but then you are only scratching the surface anyway
Those are like 10% of the config ๐
and only part of the reason why linux isn't more widely used than it currently and always has been
well this is frankly insanity
I can do networking just fine, but linux baffles me
Generally I'd rather just run a windows box and deal with the bloaty overhead (because it actually works for me)
Windows ๐คข
hugs my Windows machine
@last dirge great tip btw
He knows not what he says my precious
The food was awesome
It even made me daydrink
@forest edge more widely used? Can Linux get more widely used? ๐
Isn't Linux used in a ton of servers and such
it's just the home user market where it lacks penetration
Penetration
@clear ferry contrary to your belief linux isn't on everyone's desktop lol
I love when they use that word at work to describe our market share
I giggle every time
@forest edge it's in every datacenter, every appliance, most homes around the world and in most places you visit every day ๐
Like, probably your DVR box is linux
My security system gateway with a listening telnet port with credentials I can't crack is Linux ๐ก
My Compuer Privacy and Ethics teacher was a penetration tester
he had a great story of how he got to meet the man who hired him in person on a job once.
That word freaks me out
I've seen massive datacenters running windows server...
only to virtualize a lot of linux hosts... used for kubernetes clusters...
they need to do this because they are official MS partners, wooohooo
@dusky plank I can count on a single hand the amount of physical windows servers I've installed the last 5 years
So he goes into the lobby and there is a computer to sign in on. Mister Tester manages to get a USB Port or some wizardry so that he can set himself up as a hired person on the listing. The secretary waves him through and security gives him a temp badge. Then he WALKS into the office of the man who hired him to tell him all about how bad his Computer Security is.
@clear ferry let me guess... it was one installation and 3-4 reinstallations of said machine because it collected trash over time
@dusky plank hahah, no, usually it's a veeam server, physical one
The only people who do hyper v servers in Norway install them themselves, then complain to me that it doesn't work afterwards
But I carefully explain the issue
you are running windows
I think majority of the unseen spectrum of this is played in Torvalds playground. But 90% of physical world is owned by MS. Everyone forgets that everything they touch designed fabricated mass produced was done on a Windows machine. Everything is not for everything and everyone. ๐
morning, 2020... the year of the linux desktop ๐ ๐คฃ
Desktops, meh who cares about those ๐
every year is supposed to be the year for the linux desktop but it never is heh
Pipe dreams.
ARGLEBLARGLE
NOMAKESENSE
screw this linux not-working bullcrap! augh!
We'll be sorry when all our linux running cars are hijacked by Torvalds
That said, I probably install 200 Linux desktop per year, but they are all in HPC environment
@valid halo actually, the Volvo V40 ran Windows CE I believe
๐ฎ
Back in 2004
GASPS
Car OS can be anything but I doubt any car was ever designed on a Linux desktop
gross
@tidal bronze a lot of oil and gas happens on Linux desktops
you need a real time OS for a car
No, but excavation data and such
All that is secondary. Shit needs to be designed first. ๐
Pfff, it's already designed ๐
That's done on a Windows desktop
yeah sure with putty
The 'Pfff' you typed or thumbeed was designed on a Windows desktop. @clear ferry
Brb, I'll send @tidal bronze some Norwegian brown cheese to cool him down
I don't have a preference but most nix guys totally forget the CAD world that they interect with.
CAD is so yesterday, we model the stuff on a 600node Linux cluster after its been painted on windows for 5 minutes
๐
Dream on dreamer
I do like me Ubuntu and esxi to death but respect should be given where it's due.
๐คข
back when i started in linux world, there was no ubuntu... basically there was redhat and slackware
slackware was what us cool kids used
Slackware
took awhile to download on dial-up tho
Before I moved to Gentoo, and then Debian
@clear ferry Dude can you please get some Kaopectate while you are in US
had to buy some cheat from cheapbytes
I am pretty sure the equivalent in Norway is not working so far.
since you guys seem to know a crap ton about linux, is there something i'm doing wrong here? https://pastebin.com/v6fvgqZC
even just changing the ip address in the two files breaks it. As does editing the ip address in the web interface. I think something got bonkered here
frankly I'm about to throw proxmox out the friggin window
are you using ubuntu 18? i believe they introduced netplan which allows you to setup IP stuff via YAML
"Linux" what os?
btw, setting up IP stuff on YAML is really fucking nice compared to the old school way
I'm not allowed to emoji by @tidal bronze
๐
Proxmox probably does things differently than Debian anyway
If everything makes you sick you might wanna see a doctor @clear ferry
im not sure about the bridge stuff on there blueeyes, but i've never added my netmask like that unless it was directly after the IP... you may want to change that to 255.255.255.0 instead of just "24"
if you had 192.168.1.10/24 .... that makes more sense but just having "netmask 24" doesn't really look right
that's... actually how it had it initially, so I was following suit
it works with the 192.168.1.64 config. but not with 192.168.10.64, even JUST changing that octet
yes, i've read that. their examples don't work for me
So you are trying to use a subinterface
try it on windows server
Because of vlan
I have tried both with and without a subinterface, with and without the vlan (my network setup currently allows network traversal from untagged vlan1 and vlan10)
and the bridge is required and (apparently) used by the VMs I'm hosting, so that's got to stay... not quite sure where those configs are
whoa heating up in homeassistant
Hang on, I'm still walking and daydrunk
Orbital delivery of clue-by-four on order
I'll look at it soon ๐
Thonk
thank Mr skeltal
Is it normal to not have a license plate in the front in the us?
Or is that Georgia only?
@clear ferry some states don't require it, some do
I think ny and va has plates in front
Ohio just passed a law or something that makes us not need them
Sounds made up
Now I know you are just making stuff up
Winchestertonfieldville
Oh, and Atlantic city too
HOTlanta
the life of @clever mortar http://steve.fmgreen.net/Tumblr/rules.gif
There is very little accents in Georgia
I would have expected more southern
But they just speak generic
The Rules are the Foundation of Discipline! o7
If you want a real southern drawl. visit Kentucky
Uncle brother grandpa John?
oh there's definitely accents
you're just in the part of GA that's not really part of GA
๐คฃ
@daring inlet when it doesn't work, is enp3s0f0.10 and enp3s0f0 up ? because those interfaces are manual while your slave bridge interface vmbr0.10 which is a slave of enp3s0f0.10 which is a child of enp3s0f0 can probably be up without both of the parent interfaces being up ๐ค
also, since you are switching the subnet you are using, are you sure it is routable ?
I honestly don't know if they're up or not, but I know at least enp3s0f0 gets an IPv6 (or has one statically configured somewhere)
but routing between ipv4 and ipv6 isn't something that happens magically ๐ค
in any operating system
I assumed the auto before the interface made it come up automatically
yeah, I'm just saying that the int itself is at least up for v6
but you don't have auto before those
ah. hm. well, I know in the "working" config it doesn't have the auto before the interface either
Did you guys know @light trout is afraid of keyboards?
Like, don't even say || keyboard || or he'll freak out
@daring inlet this should just work, note that you had "static" on the vmbr0 interface, although docs stated "manual", and I changed your netmask 24 to 255.255.255.0 https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/GrW757kH5M/
Just check that all the interfaces are up with ip a
KEYBOARD KEYBOARD KEYBOARD in front of a mirror @scenic radish ?
screams internally
welp finally pried that doorbell off, going to be shipping that back
man that really bums me that thing turned out to be such a pos
Just like its owner
you would think a video doorbell would be something one of these companies could get right and not cost an arm and aleg
oooooooooooooo
@clear ferry tested your changes, it seems the ip address is getting assigned to vmbr0.10... but pinging anything from proxmox (router on either the VLAN interface IP of 192.168.10.1 or the admin page at 192.168.1.1) says Destination Host Unreachable
and can't access the proxmox web ui
probably rather a routing issue, what does route or routel show ? don't know what proxmox uses
and... you can reach any devices on the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet ?
I think I need to go to the north point mall, they have american eagle outfitters
the only proper boxer producers there is
@clear ferry remember that their beers have low alcohol content, you need to have more
all mine are worn out ๐คฃ
All your beers?
hey folks! finally building my (permanent-permanent) install and setup on a new NUC. I've been on pi the whole time and have been going back and forth between Mint Cinnamon (GTK) and Netrunner (KDE) and want to use the machine for a bit more than just hosting HASS. Install quirks/headaches and setup aside -- what's your favorite interface to work in once your system is up and running? I'm a long-time linux user of the terminal and never cared about my GUI till now.
routel, shows default with the gateway, no source, for vmbr0.10, 192.168.10.0 24 with no gateway, with the host's ip (*.10.64) for vmbr0.10, 192.168.10.64 as local, 192.168.10.0 and .10.255 as broadcast both with the source being the host's ip...
@clear ferry ๐คข
Welcome Josh. Atx gets sick all the time, you'll have to forgive him
?? sorry!
It's chronic
i'm a little lighter right now.
and yes, I can get to my switch which is on vlan10 (192.168.10.48) just fine
Try a match
can't ping the proxmox machine at all either
Try to pong it
๐
not even from the router (or the switch if that does the routing) @daring inlet ?
and you have tagged vlan 10 to that port ? ๐คฃ
๐คฃ
Lol wtf
with no idea wtf happened
normal Tuesday night for atxbyea
see @clever mortar this is how you are nice to noobs people, don't have to be real be so angry all the time ๐คฃ
๐
@forest edge that I only do in Finland
is there ? I only have two moods, shut the f up and do what I say please do the following or angry ๐คฃ
Angryboi?
I thought it was ๐คข and extra ๐คข

Our poor boi needs some Pepto Bismol or Dramamine
I need to find a new emoji with even more ๐คข ๐ค
what the hell? I can't seem to get to my switch web ui now...
@valid halo I already bought some Tums
Thataboi
Kek
cherry๐คข
What's my punishment senpai? ๐
that was a poor emoji
my dad use to eat those chocolate covered cherry things all the time, always made me sick
Like atx!
came in a box of like 20 of them or some crap
Cordial cherries?
probably, they were decent size and came in those boxes like those fancy chocolates
๐ค
Cordial cherries. Chocolate covered cherries with some sort of watery cream on the inside
Moist
Well that's what I mean
Oh we have those in norway too, they only taste licqour and not cherry really
There's both in cordial cherries at least
atleast the ones with cream on the inside
M O I S T
haven't seen ones with cherry
cpu of the pi runs at 2% with that camera disconnected lol
Also @clear ferry if you haven't gotten a Whopper yet (Burger King) DOIT
You think we don't have BK in Norway ? ๐คฃ
I had Korean BBQ for lunch, it was nice
Korean bbq == ๐คค
@clear ferry uhh...American whoppers are...better.
Forget BBQ let's just roast @clear ferry instead
๐ฅ
In norway I usually say to my wife if I'm constipated I'll go get some burger king
it will usually sort out that problem
@valid halo proper bbq is any bbq that takes half a day to cook
Apparently only Texas counts for bbq anyway
So I'll have to wait until I visit dal3h
ok i vote for a slap emoji to be added STAT!
close enough.
as a non-american my favourite thing to get to eat when I go there, is biscuits and gravy, it's both gross and delicious, and a perfect hangover cure
it's both gross and delicious
lol wtf
Chicken and waffles is delicious too
chicken and waffles is a weird combo but it is good.
you still need to find a red robin and eat the steak fries with campfire sauce
that sauce is awesome
I think I have to stop doing so many things at once, especially when I haven't slept. Not sure what happened to the switch but I couldn't even connect directly to it with static IP settings on my laptop, so I had to reset it. Now I can get to VLAN10 again from VLAN1 but... Well, I'm not sure I'm configuring the switch itself right and it doesn't offer many advanced features despite being a "managed" switch (Netgear GS748Tv3)
gross because it's like a 1600 calorie breakfast, but also delicious because it's a 1600 calorie breakfast haha
After I get the router and switch working right, THEN I'll tackle moving Proxmox to the other VLAN
๐
@clear ferry so bulgogi and japche?
mmm bulgogi
Yes sir. All day
finally got our first all you can eat korean bbq in charlotte
@tidal bronze went with all you can eat grill, bulgogi is boring, frying meat is fun ๐ค๐
i missed that from NoVA
Spicy pork a must.
Wife is crazy over Korean food. Always a few drawers full of that stuff.
I usually get the marinated gogi from Korean store and use the single burner.
The butane stuff just works for korean
Aye, we do propane in Norway, but same shit, different gas ๐
Same here natural and propane mainstream but the single burner butane for korean is my preference๐
I think we only have butane for the outdoor woodsy cooking stuff
So just small travel cannisters
Propane and Propane accessories
I'll tell ya what
why in god earth would you ever want to cook with butane?
that is so inefficient lol
Why would you ever want to use 110v, it is so inefficient ๐ฅณ
not when solar powered...
or wind powered
or methane powered
or hamster wheel powered

wood, or charcoal
America keeps the copper share prices up
Some people like their crank up model Ts too
anyone else running the speedtest integration really often like every 5 minutes? I feel like if you want to have it alert you when the internet is going to crap it needs to run pretty often.
RIP your ISP lol
you wanna complain about something, complain about the 40 million different socket types
You have more than one socket?
I meant used throughout the world
the multiple socket types and the 2 major frequencies are the problem
voltage can be dealt with
I don't think speedtest test puts much strain on my ISP :\
Also, forbidden topic ๐
Yeah, the asking about HA in here ๐
more like speedtest
we just wanna see him get throttled
i'm not sure i've ever cared about my internet speeds to that degree
I just ping the upstream gateway. As long as the TTL and packet loss stays within normal I don't care
Need a component to ping at atxbyea
Sneak that into 1.05,
On by default for every user
do it
PING 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.060 ms ```
he's gonna hax the gibson
badtelcotech had left the chat
haha
Remember that show alias
I remember an episode where the whole top secret mission/heist was to get into a server room and find out the public ip address of the servers...
So the good guys could hack in
yes
Someone whispered my name somewhere

huh

is anyone using popcorn time? last time I tried to use it, it didn't even want to run in linux, or would koda with some addons be better?
Whaaaaa
Popcorn time? How is life in 2010, is smoking still cool?
HODOR?
Hold the DOW
@clear ferry sooo what is the hotness now?
Plex is what most people I know use
You can add your friends, and stream their stuff
Most smart devices support it directly, like Roku, TVs, apple TV etc
For a minute I forgot I was in the USA, and I was looking for a bottle opener
๐
Cheerwine
wot
@ocean mirage they have screw caps on everything
interesting
I always forget that
But I wanna see things I don't have. ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐ดโโ ๏ธ
You need cool friends then !
or grab the things you dont have yourself
hahahahah thats the point of things like popcorn time
i dont even know what that is
ha, haha
probably shouldn't open that on my work computer lol
well, maybe not download it
Whats the best way for someone to download something
Hypothetically
That isn't on usenet
It was a "cool" thing in Norway years ago, basically you stream movies via bittorent, and everyone has some copy of media on their device to make a distributed network
not usenet? torrents
Quality was so and so, and leagality was not accepted
ah weird
Even norwegian isps said they would block it
And they don't care about torrents and piracy
๐ดโโ ๏ธ
torrents aren't just for illegal stuff, its for anything
of course they block it, dirty statists, trying to keep us down. ๐
I just use torrents for rare music stuff these days
hack the planet! hack the planneett!!!!
Everything else goes on usenet
torrents apparently have a better persistent catalogue which I can understand
but ive never had a reason to use usenet
Whats a good torrent docker client
Holy shit the snow in Pennsylvania
@hushed basalt I run qbittorrent but in a freebsd jail
@scenic radish u gott sum sno?
The other day, yeah. Now it's just cold as hell
I was hoping with something rolled up with openvpn
qbittorent is nice, I think I prefer the rutorrent/rtorrent but qbittorent is more aggressive which is nice
@hushed basalt i run it with a socks proxy
private or public trackers telco?
I use the binxhex rtorrentvpn for if I have anything from a public tracker
Damn Cheerwine was nice @scenic radish @wet pilot
I swear there must be cocaine in it
never had cheerwine
I'm not part of any private trackers anymore
There's just a show that's not available for purchase or stream anymore. It's not even in print on dvd
Well people on amazon want like $500 for one dvd season, noppppeee
yeah screw that
cherry ๐คข
Never had cocaine
the best TV tracker atm is being very reserved in inviting people too
@scenic radish try it, you'll be able to stay up all night working on smart home projects.
Sold
I have exclusive indexers for my usenet
nice
All very first rule of fight club
borger
The fat on pork chops is tasty but man do I hate the texture
I love both
where abouts are you atx
I did mine, its your turn ๐
you only get a warning cmon mate are you cool or not
What's a guy gotta do to get a ban around here?
Well it was made very clear that if I did it again then thats enough
so ping the mods twice I guess
I'll just ping all the mods individually except the one that got mad ๐

Canberra is okay, but some suburbs are fucked

Can't get in the way of developers making as many 300sqm blocks for $300k each as possible
On what used to be farmland until the council "happened" to rezone it just after they bought it.
legs are for poor people.
whats for rich people? hover sticks?
Cracker barrel, this must be mรผricรคn
cracker barrel is very american.
those southren people don't take kindly to outsiders mocking their country and most of them are too dumb to know the diffrence so you better watch who can see your phone screen atx lol
atlanta is a fairly nice place, one assumes he isn't in the ozarks. ๐
he's in georgia
well if they can pick apart what may look like "American" they may wait for you outside around the corner anyways lol

I thought people stopped using Usenet in the 80's, or even farther back.
people stopped conversing on it.. more or less..
Ahh, so now it's a big file share for pirated stuff?
Nice
oh yeah, you can get mellow yellow there
Mellow what now
its like a sprite, sorta
kinda more mt dew-like
but without the heavy caffine I think
I just got a Donovan song ๐
its hard to find outside of the south
Mello Yelloย is a highlyย caffeinated,ย citrus-flavoredย soft drinkย produced, distributed and created byย The Coca-Cola Companyย that was introduced on March 1, 1979, to compete withย PepsiCo'sย Mountain Dew.
mellow yellow has been around forever. I still drink it every so often

ok.. almost all the pre-reqs are done.. tomorrow I can take down the whole rack, and re-rack everything. woo?
@shell star I just PEBKAC everything ๐คฃ
@proper swift only one rack ? GOTTA UP THOSE NUMBERS
I should say cabinet... the big comm rack and the little wall mount are good. ๐
Racks eh ๐ค
I once had to move 42 racks of equipment without bringing the racks along
that was fun
rack == that empty space above a cabinet in the office ๐
ooof
both cabling wise and transportation
Oh racks of equipment ๐
but we had a police escort, so that was fun
a previous comp, we did a datacenter move. everyone was in charge of a group of systems. about half the idiots didn't bother to label the fiber disk cables on massive E6500 machines with 5-50 arrays each.
complete utter chaos.
e6500 ? ๐ค
@clear ferry sounds like a crazy plan hatched by a former co-worker of mine to migrate an oracle server and web server. I introduced her to this awesome thing called the "internet" and we cancelled the police escort by mirroring the data for 48 hours then shutting down the old site....waaaay eaiser ๐
older sun, big full rack
ooh, even I haven't seen that one before
solaris back then was "fun" fun as in "if you say this is disk5, I will treat it as such even though it's clearly not. let me fix your mirrors for you."
@shell star yeah, was not interested in mirroring the 10 SANs that were less than 2 years and a bunch of mid range unix servers that were $200k each ๐คฃ
@proper swift no persistent paths you say, did solaris ever have proper multipathing even ? ๐คฃ
I just remember working on sun systems in .... 2009 or something, and the admins had never heard of multipathing before.... we had been doing that on hpux for a decade already
๐คฃ
have you ever seen an SSA110 array?
never heard of that one either
how old are you, 85 ? @proper swift ๐คฃ
BRILLIANT invention by sun. Take 30 hotswap drives. Attach it to a fiber controller, and make an array out of it. THEN, have each tray SLIDE FULLY OUT to swap a drive, so you lose 10 drives at a time to replace 1.
3PAR did that in the late 00s, pull out 4 drives each time to replace one failed
FUN TIMES
as long as the suspend actually works, and the resume actually kicks in
yeah.. this beast had 3x10. Hotswaps, but not, because you would have to rebuild half your mirrors.
the 3PAR 10k had 480 magazines with 4 drives each ๐คฃ
I've worked on everything except a sun 3. Sun-wise.
I've worked with very little SUN, unless it was interoping with HPE hardware
But I'm the only one in Norway who works with SGI and Cray now it seems, after be bought those companies ๐คฃ
sadly, my specialty is actually AIX, so.. I know rs/6k's better. ๐
ick
aix isn't bad once you grok it's wierd.
it's actually far better than hpux or solaris. well.. everything is far better than solaris.
wasn't it the maintainer of the zos emulator that was a bit eccentric ?
zos. shudder
single digit coldness suck
aix was never very big in norway afaik
we had a lot of mainframes though
and a lot of as\400
atx grew up with shoe strings tied to can for networking
yea but this is norwat we're tlaking about
Youngling hmmmm

there was a chunk where I spent more time chasing girls than anything else and the graphics made a decent jump within that so I missed some things lol
80's and 90's here were party central. you could find a party to go to for free alcohol literally 7 days a week
I didn't get invited to parties either
I didn't start drinking beer until I was 30 either ๐คฃ

Random vlan concept related question... Should I trunk from my router to my switch if the router does the uh... VLAN routing?
paging @brisk glen where are you @brisk glen lol
Hate my power nap. What was I thinking. Got off at the wrong terminal and 90 minutes early. Thing is going to be fun.
haha
Router on a stick setups require a trunk
any link carrying multiple vlans should be a trunk containing all of those vlans, unless you run a native vlan on that link, then that vlan should be untagged or based on any of the other strange propitary PVLAN or other technologies
you cannot have 2 untagged vlans on a link, one of them at minimum will have to be tagged
Switch is tagging this device properly. Could my router not be handling the 802.1q tag or something?
Right you can have multiple tags but only one untag for each link
if you have defined the vlan upstream to the router, and defined the vlan in the router in the same manner it should work fine
so if it is tagged on the switch, it need to be tagged on the router
which makes sense if you look at the IP datagram
Hm yeah the Mac address is tagged on the switch's address table, and I have the vlan tag setup and an interface created for the vlan, and DHCP set right ...
basically, anywhere you DEFINE a VLAN it has to be TAGGED
anywhere you DON'T DEFINE a VLAN it is UNTAGGED
in short
Yes I got that
to easy test if your network actually works, tag it to the router, then make an untagged port
connect a laptop of whatever to that port
and see if you can ping the router
be sure you allow ICMP traffic first though...
Right lol
that'll show that traffic flows within that subnet
if it doesn't you have problems
if it does you just have routing issues between your vlans
Oof, tom petty just looked horrendous without a beard
atleast in older days
Looks like my brother the ugly fucker
๐คฃ
I'm not even trying to route between subnets yet. I'm just trying to get an ip address on my TV for now heh
A friend of mine looks a lot like Tom Petty tbh https://images.app.goo.gl/8VaaMM3EuWgqkMR6A
yea no, he don't lol
pff no you!
nothing like tom petty
probably more when he has animation of his face ๐คฃ
he may look like the Simpson's version of Petty one day lol https://i.imgur.com/NtVyh3x.gif
Remember when you went on your gramdmothers computer and saw this
lol
Grandmother ? heck that looks like my fathers and my mother in laws computer in the early to mid 00's
I should have booked a hotel with a piano in the room ๐ค
AHA! I got an IP on one of my VLANs but not the one I was trying to get one on. I'm betting it's firewall rules or something causing issues
LOL well I was following a (very long and detailed) guide someone wrote so it's their fault! ๐
It's a wonder my fiancee hasn't left me (red text bubbles)
Lol goodness
She might look for a big boi elsewhere if you keep it up
I LOLLED IRL @scenic radish ๐คฃ
Glad to be of service lol
Even I would have left your sorry ass
