I have never pinged anyone ever
sure, mount the volume ro
At mwwds
https://docs.docker.com/storage/volumes/ Use a read-only volume
if it is a folder just mount it with -v /mnt/magics:/docker/container/folder:ro I believe
@clear ferry yeah I did but innoDB seems to need r/w access... i just extract information though
don't know innodb, but I've mounted ro in mysql in the past
holy batman
I had some performance gain from moving my SSD used for jails from SATA-USB to native SATA
I knew it would be better
but not 10x better
🤣
SATA is faster than USB? Who'd have thunk?
doubt
Just got the best approval ever on an internal Jira: "This procedure excites the passions and soothes the mind. +1"
🤣
🤣
I should try to get a GPU passthrough in my plex for the mobile transcoding 12188 972 48 123 20 662M 418M CPU7 7 46:18 897.44% Plex Transcoder

Wow.. IBM offer a REST API over SCSI!!! https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/STQRQ9/com.ibm.storage.ts4500.doc/rest.html
It makes sense in a weird sort of way!

I have whistled Lechucks theme for 30 years almost
and I just now learned to play it
on the piano atleast 🤣
From Monkey Island?
This guy does it with more finess than me though .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb8ni8NZxaU
Io che suono il tema di Lechuck da monkey island all'organo,
Ho usato anche i pedali.
@low harness aye
@strange vapor I want a theremin 😢
Make one
@clear ferry What you need is the Etherwave Plus with the CV outs. Then you need a big modular system to make use of the CV outs. By the time you have that all setup, your family will have left you, you'll have a proper long greybeard, and plenty of time to play with the Theremin and modular.
em, that escalated more quickly than intended 😄
🤣
I wonder what mental state people who foil their car to look like a snowboard jacket have
that looks so awesome

what?

can you integrate it to control zwave and zigbee stuff
@rain swift yea that's what we recommend to codex when he comes in on his 3rd+ day of not figuring out how to work FORBIDDEN_TOPIC lol
lmao
I was thinking of it as a good way to add zigbee and zwave to FORBIDDEN_TOPIC
I already have a zstick but yeah
that specifically is a VAG thing
Proprietary hardware @rain swift 🤢
No, they do it with all brands here, specially Tesla's and Germans
funny
the image you showed with that pattern, that's a VAG thing
VW/Audi
i know lol
probably SEAT/Skoda too
a 7 year old
@last dirge they do the same pattern on all of them 🤷
They finally sell SEAT in Norway again
It was considered too cheap for years
that's weird. doorbell cam reconnected and retained all the settings i had after being unplugged from power all night lol
upgraded the firmware and ready to see how round #2 goes lol
My hacktoberfest shirt arrived today
holy shit that took a long time lmao
Yeah, we norwat people are the lowest of the low
@forest edge you decided not to go with the space heater firmware?
@last dirge for all i know this firmware could be doubling the heating efficiency lol
or just brick it without all the hassle of it glowing red first
oh you are probably right because i bet codex updated his and his bricked

what no pedobrick?
🧱
minecraft i like better lol
INB4 🤢
🤮

Good lord
Does anyone run a virtual machine as their home firewall? I've been wanting to replace my home brew hardware firewall with a VM for a while. Probably try to set up a machine with multiple nics as a VM host.
Main question would be which software to run on the VM.
I have a colleague who uses a Proxmox cluster to run OpnSENSE
iptables 😄
I run OpenBSD right now
which I love, I have some nifty scripts that run and work with pf firewall, I could re-create that
but it's 2020, I should be able to do the same stuff and have a web interface
@analog steppe sent you a private message ✌️
might be slower but should be possible
OPNsense looks cool
hi guys , im thinking about using my iPAD2 as a HUB for HA , does someone here has experience with it ?
it's 2020, everything should be a VM lol!
Hub?
As in, a dashboard?
That'd be a thing to ask about over in #frontend-archived
yes
.topic @tame cove
@tame cove For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related, like whether Docker or Kubernetes, or Celcius or Kelvin, or Celcius or Celsius, or anything. NO POLITICS or RELIGION and BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently.
Note the no Home Assistant 😉
no politics or religion? wth. 😛
lol omg
and what is this rubbish about being civil.
i just want to run the webinterface of HA on the ipad 24/7 🙂
Then... #frontend-archived 😉
Thank You Tinkerer
is anyone using ha dashboard?
is someone here using it as a dashboard?
I just wanna know if its hard to set up and configure lol
lovelace hmjriffon 🙂
#330944238910963714 @rain swift 😉
isn't hadashboard #551844176556457984 ?
I wish i could quickly reference every channel and say you need to go here
Heay
I did suggest a bot that would send people to the wrong channel, and then edit the message to have the right channel 30 seconds later
lol
lol
I know this isn't the channel, I just wanted to know if its easy
@rain swift doing atMods in one of the dev channels might be your best bet.
my vacuum just locked itself in a closet
lol
The alert it gave me was "Recharging failed. Failed to return to the starting point. Save me, my master!"
luckily it shows me where it is on a map and has a "find me" feature to where it says "I'm over here" if you activate it
it hasn't figured out how to clip through doors yet
it was cleaning in the closet and pushed the door shut
time to install vacuum door flaps
hahaha
it won't go under the bed if the duvet is hanging off
I don't think it'd go through a flap
"why are all of your doors 5" off of the floor?"
well instead of a traditional flap have it be automated to lift to required height when the vacuum comes near lol.. go all HA on it lol
lol
@forest edge atMods?
about time Michael! cli ftw!
@rain swift it was a joke, don't do it
ugh my sonoff has been in chicago for TWO Days! just now arrived here but isn't scheduled for delievery yet
which one, a plug?
the bridge
Hey guys, anyone using traccar or other component to track your cars? If so, how have you implemented it?
If you're asking about Home Assistant, take yourself over to #330944238910963714 😉
I use the android app tracker
I use satellites and spy drones
just hook into the government systems, they probably track you better than you could ever do yourself lol.
be like hey mi5 can I have API access lol
s/funky/fucky/g
fscky
CLI rocks because you can script stuff
i see i'm not the only one who uses an SSH client on his phone lol
JuiceSSH...
mosh
Blink Shell is a professional, desktop grade terminal for iOS. With Mosh & SSH clients for iOS, lightning fast and fully customizable. The best terminal for iOS.
only if I have to
😛
I'm not using a tiny screen to do command line if I can help it.
iOS🤢
i also use juicessh
@forest edge https://ish.app
there
what is wrong with alpine?
I love that iphones have to be hacked because apple is pricks
has to work with iOS for a living
@rain swift its not a hack but an app 😛
i just use connectbot
I mean, you have to do all kinds of crap to do things that should just work or be there, and there is hardly anything in the store it seems.
I dunno just hate their philosophy.
does android have a spotlight replacement yet?
they cater to dummies
something to search all of my files and notes
I could possibly move to android once they have something similer
and a devonthink alternative
yipp, sesame is great
I've carried work iphones lol still never liked them.
@rain swift interesting, I need to check it out
i'm the one managing the work iPhones
something to search all of my files and notes
@brisk glen you mean like search for keywords within files?
I haven't actually tried it cause I don't use my phone to that extent but I think that's baked into android
sesame might be able to do it but with what decent note taking app
(I have over 2k notes and fuck evernote)
why didn't you not jump the unbuntu mobile band wagon when that made the splash x years ago? lol
not even sure if you can still install that os on android phones or not, use to be able to
.... see how I am IOS... I was excited for the ubuntu phone but it died a death one must not speak of
its getting harder and harder for me to move
I have a lot automated via siri shortcuts
I love my devonthink database
if you're happy, then stick to it
I'm sure they will come out with something else sooner or later
some other linux based mobile os
@forest edge Microsoft?
I was talking in general. every so many years someone trys and reinvents the wheel
i hope so
@brisk glen there's a few out there like https://www.plasma-mobile.org/ already you can always switch to
so if that's all your waiting on, you had options all along
no idea what the end user experince is actually like, but buy a cheap android phone and slap it on
heck you can pick up older phones that will run crap like that for pennies these days
I would like to be java free 😛
there are atleast 20 diffrent types out there, one may exsist lol
Tinkerer literally the first thing we told him to do, guess he was plugging in the ip6? lol
@forest edge and I am holding out for now
its going to be a PIA to breake free from apple
well you said it was geting harder and harder to move, so holding out won't help that lol
like a drug addict 😉
I could go full MS
just in time before they take over the world too
the android search bar does all that... scans contacts, calendar, web, files, images, etc... i personally don't like all that, and leave it to just files
I've never used it but i thought it did that
Someone could look over this?
https://www.rdoproject.org/networking/neutron-with-existing-external-network/
From what I read its - just run it - From what I understand - make a static ip configuration, rename enpx.. to eth0 and maybe create a bond network
first part: https://www.rdoproject.org/install/packstack/
kinda wish I got to admin nothing but linux all day, but i'd probably need to learn to script more
you should learn to script more anyway
especially for windows
i might bash M$ but powershell is super powerful
I should, but I suck at programming and similar, I get bored fast lol and it's hard to learn something I hardly ever have to use.
- find some manual, repetitive process
- automate it
- ???
- PROFIT
bonus points if that process can be easily broken by human error
Hello!
Guys, do you think it is worth it/ logical to create a separate email address for high security logins (Bank, Storage Provider, VPN, Password Manager, etc)
would say, not the worst idea
but just dont reuse passwords - comes around the same level
doesn't gmail let you do some sort of tags with the addresses for stuff like that?
username+mybank@gmail.com
one + for Underknowledge
yes
I want to get rid of Google
but this + tagging is problematic
- some websites do not even accept it
- I am not sure about Google, but once you give this out you cannot delete it or turn it off, it will continue to receive emails. of course maybe you can set some filter, but it is not good enough for me
- your main email is easily recognizable, as the username is in it, and software's are getting more intelligent, but I am sure people can take the + and the other word to get your email
@past idol get your own domain and protonmail
Set up a catch all email for your domain to go to protonmail
And then use blahblahblah@yourdomain.com
So say bank@yourdomain.com and dodgeysite@yourdomain.com
Then you can disable those emails wherever you manage your domain, but easier to filter in email
yeah I have considered that
And then you always know which company leaked/sold your email
one of my concerns:
1.you give away your domain name, which makes you easily traceable by shady services
2. what stops them from spamming my domain name? I mean if they try contact@yourdomain.com that is all what it takes. Or anything like this
as all email lands there
not to argue or anything, I am just telling this as I already thought about this, but these deterred me from that
> /dev/null
Buy a cheap domain
I'm trying set up Sonoff to work
Or just use protonmail and move on with your life
You're being tracked 1000 more ways than just emails and domains
All sorts of personal identification markers including the way you enter text into search fields
true 😄
Fricking Plex sync
Doesn't work, and forum threads stretch back 10 years with lol doesn't work
@trim vortex #330944238910963714
Hi i'm trying to update from 0.00.1alphav2 to 104 on a commodore. any recommendations?
@steel urchin doorbell been working like a champ after a night of being disconnected, lets see if it dies tonight around same time lol
@forest edge no talk about commodore here plz
Hi everyone, I need to buy some smart light and led strips since I need to control color and light intensity.
I want to control them via home assistant (or an other software similar) and block them internet access via firewall.
If I understood well, smart lights based on tuya (and so controlled with Smart Life app) can't be controlled if I block them internet access right?
If not, which brand should I buy? Or which protocol should I check to know if I can use them?
Of course I will control them only from my LAN
many things have local api which still allows control even when cut off from internet. I don't have tuya so I couldn't tell you what they have, in fact everytime the tuya even comes up is from people flashing those things with custom firmware. maybe you should look into doing that?
Here are my thoughts on the new Microsoft Edge Browser.
I want to upgrade but sooo many breaking changes for me and only an hour before I have to be at work so no time to fix 😦
@forest edge many things have local api which still allows control even when cut off from internet. I don't have tuya so I couldn't tell you what they have, in fact everytime the tuya even comes up is from people flashing those things with custom firmware. maybe you should look into doing that?
I would rather avoid custom firmware and go for an easier route.. Do you know about other brand of light that can be controlled offline? Maybe Philips or Ikea?
I don't really know where can I search this kind of information..
googling reviews would likely tell you. plenty of videos on youtube where people review products and state rather they can be local controlled or not. lots of us prefer local over cloud so there is diffidently no shortages of reviewers out there willing to provide us the answers we need
the bulbs i run are cheap amazon knockoffs from another company
and i don't have experince with anything other than that
I will say if you want local you should consider getting into learning how to flash smart home products. not many things off the shelf give full control in the ways we would like and the only means of achieving that is taking matters into your own hands.
I wish twitch would get arround to consolidating their events
You have to poll a few diffrent APIs to get follows and then there is pubsub
I wish they would just put follows into pubsub
ranting about this because im thinking about making a twitch event intergration
@terse flame Philips hue has a local API
✅ 🇵 🇲
🦉
philips has 2 local apis
the hub just keeps blinking a light when it cant touch home
shit... I need to get more blackout curtains
Resist Score Comparing to 79 Homes for heating and AC is a sad 11
looks like they are working on adding a password reset feature
@brisk glen 2 local APIs? 🤔
Oh right, yeah
I always forget about HomeKit since they already have their own local API
It's quiet
Atxbyea must be getting cavity searched
Mac 🤢
I wonder if Frenck ever sleeps lol
Nope
you best be watching my sonoff leaving chicago
The one I got for free and installed? Nope

I watched a wonderful video
of a bunch of cats in a marching band as a man screams orders at them in VR chat
I love this timeline
Imma just post the video and you can make your own conclusions about this timeline
Meow
The kittens in the VRchat marching band are based off the characters from MitchiriNeko March (https://youtu.be/lAIGb1lfpBw)
This is the song that's marched to (https://youtu.be/nLr-SQHFuJ8)
All footage is taken from my twitch stream at https://www.twitch.tv/syrmor/
Go to bed
Okay 😦
😛
Urgh
Windows and wsl and /mnt permissions are killing me
heh
THiS fIlE is GlObAllY WrItTaBLe
Okay so how do I make it not globally writable so it will work
"this is not a feature we are looking to support"
🤦♂️
Good looking and non functional is still good looking
lol
I'm going to have a great trip to the us, I can feel it
Yesterday I stubbed my toe
My daughter broke my glasses
Today I put on my t-shirt and put it in my eye
Come at me bro
🤣
well just think, you still got being ripped off by the taxi/uber driver to look forward too, being mugged and food poising and catching something to still take back home to share with others lmao
@forest edge but we have fixed low rates, and company pays everything 😛
yea keep that in mind when you get quarantined trying to leave
I do hope you have a good trip here lol
although keep your valuables secure at all times, the locals around here have been getting desperate the last few years.
I'll gofund you, so you can stop your stripper lifestyle then
it would only increase the size of my wardrobe

Improbable, but actually possible, an optician had my frame in store, so I can fix my glasses
😂
Roxaaaaaaaane
Why don't you put on a reeeed liiiight
Or whatever the lyrics are again
I suppose I'll post this here? sure, I was wondering if any daring folk would like to check out my lovelace ui? I'm kinda looking for ideas on where to go next, I'm thinking app daemon but idk if I really need it, my tablet runs lovelace just fine, and cameras are always wonky on daemon. just looking for maybe tips, a fresh set of eyes couldn't hurt. and just so you know it's maybe worth the time, I got about 45 devices, 8 pages in lovelace, 40 some automations.
I know it's early where I am, I'm not trying to be that guy, but you know...the earth is round lol.
#frontend-archived might be a better forum for that!
yea, but not really only lovelace, more of like the whole thing. idk, I'm looking for ideas on where to go next with my smart home, lovelace is just a good place to show what all is there. sure, forums, sounds great.
unless you top this I'm not interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=727tFhqpFAE 😛
@light trout thanks, but that's why I'm looking for ideas 😉
I'm assuming you're talking about the general "share your projects" @clever mortar ? yea, yea that's great and all but it would take 5 minutes showing via discord share rather then making a video to put on youtube, also I don't convey well over text, obviously. was really looking for something a bit more impersonal then sharing it to everyone, but fair enough. didn't think it was too much to ask a server of over 3k people if anyone /wanted/ to discuss ideas.
For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related, like whether Docker or Kubernetes, or Celcius or Kelvin, or Celcius or Celsius, or anything. NO POLITICS or RELIGION and BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently.
Using the forum means folks will see your post more than 5 minutes from now
Lol what luck , this weekend was 75% discount on frames
So I only paid $25 to replace my frames
That feeling when a sensor says a website you host is down, and then suddenly 5 hours later it says it is up again, and you didn't do anything

🧙♂️
Shhhh. I'm flattering him so that he doesn't throw up on my gear again
internet black magic dies when you learn about networking
still black magic when you learn how BGP works and how the internet is ran on it
Never bothered getting deep into bgp, I understand the gist
I still see the internet as black magic
@clear ferry the fact is that its not secure in any way and any provider can massively fuck up the internet accidentally
the internet guy is supposed to come clean out the tubes at work today, so we won't be able to do anything for an hour 😩
Didn't Verizon break the internet through some kind of DNS mess
@scenic radish just suck on it
ah thx
I won't post the emoji I have for that
lmao
@valid halo I dunno but relatively recently someone put a new DNS server on the internet in Africa
and it was configured as an authoritative root server
and it really screwed with DNS globally for about a week
thats how entire countries get blacklisted
I think that was a year or two ago
As a major internet transit provider, Verizon should have filtered out the bad information but didn't, which resulted in roughly two percent of IP address prefixes being redirected through a steel plant in a small town in Pennsylvania```
hahahaha
steel mill: "wow lots of people must be interested in steel production"
verizon has shit tier support
Screaming child processes killing zombie parents
I had to file a 911 fcc complaint to get them to fix a tower.....
Sadly I have yet to be told about that in any computing classes atx
that blew up in a massive way to where verizon corporate called me 3 days later
sounds like a programming thing. I haven't taken much of that.
Corporate
Corporate called YOU
they didn't just laugh at you?
👀
the issue was massivly fineable under 911 laws

what happens when you have an monopoly over an area
tower goes down and winter is comming
Yeah, that's a good thing about telecom here, EU forces everyone to share and cooperate
no one in the entire area can call emergency services for over an 1 hr radius drive
so you're fucked.
And all 911 services in Norway are driven by a seperate organisation anyway, that has their own equipment parallel to telecom
sooo.. with Verizon... if you report an issue... and some one else reports the issue... the ticket keeps being remade
over and over and over
XD
That is used primarily by emergency, but if it is down they switch automatically to the regular telecom
ham radio
🍔 📻
😂
no help for an hour?
hope they let you keep something around in case someone tries to do unscrupulous things to you lol.
okay, poll time
🆗
Brian should not do polls
:P
(a common poll choice on another forum I frequent)
are people who "park" on curbs of businesses, in fire lanes, or handicapped spots and turn on their hazard lights bad people or the worst people?
🧟
but they're worse than bad
Entitled
not for a delivery
maybe a delivery of water to a fire
for an "I'm a customer going in here and I'm fucking important!"
ughhhhhhhhhhhh
ah, yeah. fire the customer
what the fuck goes through those peoples' heads?
nothing
they literally only care about themselves
and disregard everyone else or that their actions affect other people
also completely unrelated, but this looks fun: https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/01/17/pinephones-linux-and-privacy-centric-150-smartphone-begins-shipping-to-early-adopters/
think so
boooo
damn CDMA
phone number spoof the business and call the local tow truck
be that a hole against the aholes
phone with DIP switches
lmao:
When fulfilling the purchase, please bear in mind that we are offering the PinePhone at this price as a community service to PINE64, Linux and BSD communities. If you think that a minor dissatisfaction, such as a dead pixel, will prompt you to file a PayPal dispute then please do not purchase the PinePhone. Thank you.
understandable since it's really just aimed at devs
You get what you pay for
and it's dirt cheap
a neat phone to tinker with
exactly
i can totally see someone bitching about it so it makes total sense to have that warning
ok Karen
also it ships with a test image so you can verify it works but it won't actually work as a phone ootb
🆗 💥 🇪 🇷
@valid halo that'd probably work in the US
🤔
yeah we have CDMA in the US. i think sprint still is on that
it's got 4 GSM bands
as long as it supports lte
just as well
it'd work on Sprint or Tmo
I honestly think a Tinkerable phone isn't for me
sounds like a fun project but not as a daily driver
brb, installing forbidden_topic on the pinephone
its a really cool project for me.. and a true linux not java shitted everywhere phone
I just know we'll see a Linus video "Using PinePHone as a Daily driver!?!?! Gone Technological!"
No wait that might be more Unbox therapy's speed.
at least it will cause kernel upstream patches for power management
google had a talk recently about their issues with kernel updates. Apparently its even more of a hot mess than i realized because the chipset MFGs are terrible
it puts android in a super fragmented state
they detailed what their plan is to pare everything back
cut the phone vendors out of it at least. but the chipset side will be harder to do
to get google play certified.. you need to support fusha base
and fusha base requires google control
they probably won't push that for a while
they need to
the chipset mess isn't really the fault of the mfgs either. but they make things worse by adding their own kernel crap on top
they need to start somewhere instead of letting the issue keep piling up like everything else
yah... fusha is the only out for them
long term, yeah
yep, which makes sense in x86 but there's no bios like abstraction layer for arm
I guess they also do not want to be limited by a standard
this way is better.. lets change and break it all
arm has instructions to replace something like a bios or how does it work?
it works by them forking the kernel somehow
So I had a coffee with a lead dev at a software consultantacy practice yesterday
Seems like the sort of company I'd like to work for
what's it like to be a programmer these days, I feel like it's all probably getting outsourced to india and china?
ahh, I know when I call microsoft for issues, I pretty much only get people from india.
though I did get a SQL DBA from the UK the other day.
People developing the project having a close in person relationship with the people who will be using the project is really valuable
would you like to have software you want to use programmed by a foreign individual?
I don't think so
Having a bunch of developers managed by a team leader in a subcontracted company for an outsourcing company handled by a corporate software team talking to a business analyst who talks to the business consultant who talks to the clients team manager who gets their information from the actual users
Not so good
programming isn't outsourced as much
but then, we have two offshore programmers on our team. One in Ukraine and one in Bolivia
the core of the team is US though
there will definitely be jobs. certain regions still have a poor rep for code quality
my coworker behind me is chewing ice with her mouth open and it's fucking disgusting
that's all, bye
Crunches loudly
I've never had a good experiencing with code outsourcing
we've been good with our 2 from a country that does not have a half hour offset from the rest of the world
I worked for a place that bought a company in the dominican republic and fired all of the US devs
lots of places care more about paying slave wages
they also got rid of pretty much all of the systems admins too
H1B garbage is killing people's jobs here
its a good visa but its being abused by mega-corps in said country with a half hour offset
yep
the biggest criminals on earth wear suits and they will abuse everything.
those types of jobs attract psycho and sociopaths.
one contracting firm we already work with for our qa people were trying to force some of their scrubs on us and were coaching them on answers
we would have to constantly change up our questions to catch them in their lies
a place I used to work at had a coding test
it was a very simple test that proved basic OO knowledge
85% of the people that took it failed it
I mean, places i've worked sat you down and gave you a list of things you'd have to do and said go
we had to change it a bit after we found someone who'd taken it had posted it online somewhere
even though people were still failing it after that 🙂
I had one place put me in a room with a bunch of gear and say here, set this all up to do this stuff etc. I'll be back in an hour lol.
Yeah, I've interviewed folks who didn't know the most basic thing about the field they've been working in
seems like it would be hard to memorize a programming test
lot of idgits just brain dump cert tests
my bachelors degree capstone project, one of the girls in our group didn't know anything, I'm like how did you make it this far
just watched a UPS truck back up 2 blocks along my street cause they were fearing the ice turning around lol
heh
@rain swift like my wife doing her master's in cybersecurity, and one of the guys don't understand how files are attached in Microsoft teams
gonna be a mad house outside here today, can see the ice out there and people don't do well with less than perfect road conditions
@forest edge whereabouts?
midwest missouri
don't worry atx, sure there is no ice where your going
only the flames of hell!
-5 degrees celsius = 23 degrees fahrenheit!
well this is witner for us
lord knows it didn't want to snow during xmas so now that we're past that we'll get blizzards and crap galore
lol amazon says my sonoff bridge is out for delivery.. so that's wonderful cause now it gets to be crushed when the delivery truck carrying it flips 17 times due to the crap weather road conditions
that's what you're concerned about if the truck flips 17 times?
those amazon trucks have more airbags than a pimped out 70's Cadillac with hydraulics .. yea the driver will be fine.. the cargo.. not so much
they are brand new from the ford plant we have located here
the little guy?
no they aren't little
the big Transit?
they look like the sprinters but taller
@scenic radish muy pequeno
yep, probably what they could get locally
they're all purchased locally to the distib center
GAH
dealing with QA resources is infuriating
especially when they think they've found the root cause of the issue and insist on using their steps to reproduce the issue
even though it's not possibly related in that manner
if we quickly flip the breaker repeatedly the unit fails, clearly a fault in the breaker
well it does say child resistant on the package..
nah, it's good to power cycle your entire house at least once per hour
I once discussed with a guy
Who insisted that replacing switches every two years was a good idea
Because they got slower over time
I asked him if he was under the impression they were running out of megabytes
Never got a reply
It's the electrons, they make tunnels
I wonder if this explains why some people around here get slower...
I feel offended
heh, none of us turn atx on
thats just guilt eating at your vvery soul, nothing to concern yourself with
i disabled that feature flag a while ago
@steel urchin camera going on 24 hours still operational. maybe it was a fluke thing i dunno

Sounds like a calendar entry
I like those new battery free / power cable free wall switches that you can slap anywhere

Did someone say kinetic energy power?
I remember some group was considering making sidewalk tiles have that stuff built in
So as we all shuffle along in our zombie lives we power SOCIETY
I like the illuminating paint stuff they are using in some parts where the paint on the road glows at night for like crosswalks ect

what bridge?
take a narwal tusk with you then.
important PSA
when ordering resistors from an online source make sure you check the wattage so you don't end up with gigantic 2W resistors when you only need 1/4 watt
I think we need to see a photo comparison.
XD
looks like cat food that fell in the water dish
Heh.
Man, I'm kind of hoping that Apple steps up their game a bit on HomePod this year. The current HomePod, is just too much and not veratile enough in terms of,,, Size... Like the Echo's are. But the Siri voice assistant is mostly way better than the Alexa voice assistant in terms of what it can actually do.
apple 🤢
I was doing voice assistant comparisons between Alexa and Siri today on basic things like. "is the living room light on?" Siri can answer! Alexa says that the living room doesn't support that. :/
@undone aspen thats funny... it was the other way around a few years ago
Heh yeah. Well, Apple can get behind, but then shoot ahead when it matters. 🙂
"Alexa, are there any lights on?" "I can't find the device any lights."
"Hey Siri, are there any lights on?" "The office light is on, all the rest are off. The Driveway is not responding."
Serious difference there.
Google is also quite capable of telling you what lights are on
Is it? I haven't used it at all.
You even now get a card to turn off the lights that are on 😄
heh.... Oi,...
It does list all the lights though, which is annoying
The a, the b, and the c lights are on. The x, the y, and the z lights are off
Google does indeed list the lights that are on
I created a simple routine in Alexa to, for Good night, to simply turn off all the lights, close the garage door, lock all the doors.
Yeah, Google supports routines like that too
Siri, I think you have to individually list each one when setting up a scene like that.
With Google I can certainly say turn off all the lights
But, still. The big problem, and why I mixed Apple & Alexa, is because $350 for a single HomePod, is and still is ridiculous.
That's Apple for you
Oh, Siri too, I think, fo rthat kind of phrase.
Yeah, they went on temporary sale, exlusively at Best Buy, explicitely while I was in the middle of changing jobs and couldn't afford one. LOL
I am hoping 2020 brings a Homepod mini, Homepod 2, Homepod 2 Max, or something, with reasonable price ranges.
Sure, along with a voice assistant as well.
this is apple
Granted, with an Apple Watch, an Apple phone,e tc, on your person at any given moment in time, that can be rendered less than useful, however, that's only half of things. 🙂
Like, I use an Echo Dot in my bedroom as a voice assistant, audible player, alarm clock, glass break detector, etc...
I mean the google home Max is 400 bucks but that thing looked pretty beefy
Yeah, it's freaking huge. With dual woofers, and tweeters, and comes with stereo in a small package, where-as you can do stereo with homepod and echo, by pairing two to one.
T H I C C
The wha?
the google home max. it's THICC
Ahh...
THICC like those accidental 2W reistors
The Google Home Max for when you want everyone to hear your music preferences for free
so i discovered a lovely infinite loop in one of the programs i use at work.

FFS
someone put a while loop where they shouldn't have
@scenic radish was put there intentionally so you could appear to be doing something
"what did you do today?"
"held down the enter key for 8 hours straight."
🤔
"Tediore have you completed the price list yet?"
"almost sir! the program is
a little tricky to figure out but i think i got the hang of it!"
lmao
Woah! Apparently FIsherman's Friend reacts with beer pretty much the same way Methos does with diet coke...
Who can guess how I found out?
methos

You had one in your mouth while drinking beer
methOS
I literally only just found this a couple weeks ago and was so excited it existed...lol

@wet pilot there you have it. 20 asterisks == secure
18 is 1000 years. 17 is 78 years
Very much so. The computer gives up after 18 asterisks
"fuck it, no one's this committed to a dumb password"
18 a is 23 million years
18 1 10 months
This is an exciting Friday night
Lmao
I'm honestly tempted to make a dummy account for something and use one of these passwords
it might just get hit by a dictionary attack
Prolly
so I want to get into making my own sensors and stuff, and someone in here said they do it all the time without soldering, so where is a good place to start with that, this ESPhome stuff?
breadboards
are there any decent kits I can get off the amazon?
anyone have an idea where I can join an Ender 3 / 3D printing Discord?
@daring quartz https://discord.gg/b5VgCv is pretty good, not necessarily Ender 3, but a few people have those specific printers
Thank you!
@hushed basalt yeah if you value your time, a 3D printer is a good way to waste all of it.
I've played less than 10 hours of games in the past 12 months
if I want my first project of making my own stuff to be a smart plug, is the sonoff the way to go? do they measure wattage use?
That's not really making your own thing.. that's just wiring up a Sonoff. You could use a esp8266 with esphome or tasmota and get some ws2512b LED strips and have some fun there, that's a bit more wiring stuff up
I'm okay with wiring up a sonoff lol
I guess making my own stuff was the wrong way to put it
hacking cheap stuff?
but the other thing would be cool too
tuya-convert is fun
what is that
This Chinese company named tuya offers a way for pretty much anyone to make their own smart plugs and sell them and naturally someone found a way to flash custom firmware on lots of tuya stuff that enables local control
Most if it is stuff based on the ESP8266 wifi module
I found a bunch of Globe branded plugs for cheaper than Sonoffs and flashed them with Tuya-convert.. I should find a use for those critters
I flashed some smart plugs that were on sale for $3 each with power monitoring. I should've bought 10 lol
links plz
Man remember back in the Dark Ages when it was 6-8 weeks for delivery
I have a security camera guy in china who gets me stuff in like 3 days
I know he's doin shady stuff, but I don't care
Well they're not on sale anymore but these are the ones I got: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGSBFNJ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_OGMiEb2AGHT44

@wet pilot careful with special chars though, you hear about the kids who broke a bank with an emoji password?
apparently it corrupted a whole lot of shit
@scenic radish holy shit
the 16A or the 10A?
16A, except the specs make no sense. Lemme check
classic
16A ... secretly uses 20ga wire
that kills me when I see it though
Theyre getting better at least
It says max current 16A, max power 1100W 110-240 V. You could never pull 16A through these if the max power is 1100W lol. 1100W / 16A == 69 (nice) V
69V
an interesting question to be had regulatory wise though
I assume since it is a DC-DC converter (for powering the onboard electronics) of some sort, its input range is 110-240V
so technically its input range is indeed up to 240
but if you market 16A
thats 3840W
at 240V
so why is anyone allowed to market anything with a wide input range in amps?
thats bogus
will those work with HA out of the box or do I have to hax them?
Too early for this shit

@clear ferry did you try the esphome on your bridge with the hack?
Not yet, I've only played with openmqttgateway
@rain swift will not work with forbidden topic without flashing custom firmware
[beleted]
I just finished a 32oz (1 L) cold brew coffee and I'm fucking amped
Actually, someone help
Pls
She's noh mah qween
I saw that DoctorMod

Also where'd you get your PhD anyway?
University of kawaii
Heh

always got them hot emoji
And you have only seen 3%
the one thing i bought this sonoff for dosen't work lol
i mean i plan to use other shit, but this one thing is what pulled the purchase trigger
something strange in my docker enviroment after the last power outage, traffic passed to the containers are random at best 🤔
every few hours my monitoring complains that my websites are down, then they are up again after 10 minutes or soo
betting it's @scenic radish hacking me
I should set up nginx as my frontend soon though
but... learning that horrible syntax
I really like the nginx syntax.
I don't know what you're all having
bangs head against wall
A lot of cool synth stuff, haven't caught up yet 😛
@hearty depot buy you are German, that explains everything
🤣 really ?
Stunts are cool but I don’t need another thing to waste my time on
I would like to see the old avartars from people. Like @ocean mirage I know you.. but your "face" is missing
The future is now old man!
My back hurts 👎 probably I slept on a cushion to much :p
(aka-yea I get old deam fast)
Ah nice
I’m considering getting one again once I sell my king of tone
Maybe a Taylor 114CE or similar range
Taylors are supposedly good
I don't like them much
I hate takamine
I've had Washburn's since 1995, won't replace them so far
Had another 12 string from them, but it got stolen
I’m not set on Taylor, that’s just the price range I’m in I think
Martin, Cole Clark, Maton
I paid $200 for the 12 string used
Nice
I’d happily pay less if I can’t tell a difference
I recommend trying a lot
