It doesn't have to be reliable for video @orchid rose 😛
I replied to some random message from god know how long ago
Or just reliable enough
mdns is just as reliable as dns
We used it for some heart rate monitors, it worked fine enough for that too
except tthe multicast bit 😛
fine when the switch is not treating multicasts like broadcasts
Long live Comware
None of that inferior Catalyst, nexus or unifi stuff ;)
Or extremeos 🤢
Like ubiquity you say? 😛
@clear ferry yes edgeOS 2 is trash... at least they know it is
🤢
Cisco ACI is even worse
🤢
I like that it takes a network admin 30-60 minutes more to configure my network ports in aci than it would take in any other OS
no wonder why cisco is forcing python automation on the ccna cert
their shit is soo unusable, you havre to resort to scripting to set stuff
IOS has never been great
A customer of mine that used to have 3par used to do 5 minutes to provision a new disk to a 50 node esxi cluster, with emc it took him 45 to do the same thing
Can't believe I am paying $50+ for Chromecast audio. 🤔

Some are selling for 100+ on eBay. 🙄
That's the only way for no latency audio sync with AVR and GH speaker groups
I had 2 and pulled them out, for the life of me can't remember where I put it.
You could mangle a gh mini and connect the speaker output to something I guess
Cheaper than $100
😛
Not 2 channel
Oh right
Found 1 for 44 plus shipping, oh well.
i knew i should have grabbed one when they were $15 each
then i could have sold you it for $44 plus shipping
no hdmi on your AVR?
I have one chromecast audio, but now that they discontinued it, I'll probably have to look at the chromecast devices in the future if I'm to extend the audio groups
my network works fine
but enjoy your hardware that they make not support newer versions of software so they force you to buy new hardware, or make the devices go slower and slower to make the battery life longer, etc. etc. etc.
🙂
gotta maintain that reality distortion field.
@clear ferry i think you think americans are more sensitive than they really are lol

I spoke to someone tonight who said American customs was really big on rejecting developers on holidays
"Why are you here for six weeks, you must be working! "
wut?
Last time i flew into the us I was with my wife and sisters
we're required to take an online cybersecurity course at work because people at work are idiots and click on the fake phishing emails the IT dept sends out
The guy in customs gave off a real feminine vibe, but was flirting with all of my female companions, but when I came up he was like awrite, here yo passport, begone
so i'm sitting here for the next hour taking the course, ffs
@scenic radish we have to take it once a year, because people be idjits
And they send test mails atleast once a month we have to report to phishing as a test
@scenic radish depends greatly on which american you talk to, if they are a progressive, lefty, SJW nutjob, they will be very sensitive, to comical levels.
ehh... maybe. i try not to make mass generalizations though
stereotypes exist for a reason lol.
but you have toys
the training just showed this tip:
Never connect to open Wi-Fi unless you are using a VPN (virtual private network). It’s too easy for hackers to trick you and gain access to your device. Just never do it if you want to stay secure.
as though the people who are clicking on fake phishing links are gonna know what a VPN is without explaining it first
and they don't even explain what it is lmao
time to bring up the point that not all VPNs will protect against that anyways? a vpn that just adds routes to a private network without tunneling all traffic and hijacking all DNS won't do shit against someone trying to mitm your banking info or facebook password or whatever
tru. my traffic is encrypted with a 2048-bit key so i think i'm good
I use 4096, ultra paranoia mode
if my phone stumbles on open wifi it automatically opens a VPN tunnel
i can't get tasker to reliably trigger starting my VPN based on wi-fi networks, it's kind of annoying me
gonna switch off the beta track and see if it persists, then contact the dev maybe
oh wi-fi assistant?
that has worked maybe 5 times in the 8+ years i've had a nexus/pixel phone lol
Google Pixel phones do auto-VPN too
@scenic radish openvpn? it provides a seamless tunnel on ios at least :/
I have a Tasker profile for my own OpenVPN though
using the openvpn connect app on android. pivpn installed at home
Yeah, that's what I use, with Tasker for not one of these WiFi names
what in the vpn is going on in here
can't figure out why my tasker setup for it is so unreliable. mind sharing your tasker profile for it tinkerer?
@forest edge sshhhhhh
these aren't the packets you're looking for
lol
Let me dig it out
🙏
please send it via ssh
scp
send it via ssh over dial up
base64 encoded so no one can read it
it's big brain time
Brb run Windows off an SD card
Anyone other than myself on the Webinar for the Zigbee "new open protocol" webinar?
@clear ferry MMC for the win
Is it just me, or does it sound pretty closed, so far?
No u
You get out of your car and find a flash drive lying on the pavement. It's labeled Payroll 3rd Qtr.
What should you do with it?
A Take it to Accounting to see if it belongs to them.B Plug it into your own computer to see if you can figure out who it belongs to.
C Pick it up and throw it away so that the next guy won't get tricked.
D Take it to your IT department and tell them exactly where you found it.
Obviously B, i'm not an idiot
E
Lolololol
Plug it into the CEOs computer
Who made your training @scenic radish ? Someone who almost knows what a computer is?
I suspect most IT departments would just plug it in too
knowbe4
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/dTS7yvsTT3/ @scenic radish
The connect task checks for connectivity before bringing up the VPN, to avoid shooting self in foot with captive portals.
All the profile does is check that it's WiFi connected and one of the two profiles Home and Trusted Wi-Fi aren't active
@scenic radish reminds me, when I did my driver's exam 20 years ago, we had questions like that
You hit someone with a car, do you a, run over them three more times, b go out and berate them or c call an ambulance
In that style of idiotic alternatives
For the whole exam
I would do a first, then b, then a again
@clever mortar ah, thanks. i'm just triggering on Wifi connected with !my-SSID as the parameter. for some reason it doesn't automatically connect most of the time

Weird
does yours also bring up the openvpn connect app briefly upon connect/disconnect?
also what version of tasker are you on?
also what is love?
- Don't think so, but it happens automatically... I'm not watching. Let me test
Sigh something broke
I'll have to troubleshoot later
all good, thanks. sorry if i broke it lol
VPN worked yesterday, VPN sulking today
ah, no fun
The drives from AWS seem to have survived the dodgy packaging. Both working perfectly.
Because I'm paranoid about them, they're both going into RAID1 systems paird with drives bought locally in proper packaging 🙂
Murphy says the local ones will die
Of course!
And the Amazon ones will outlive you
Ok, yes it does @scenic radish - but I found other issues 😂
oh boy
Eh, it's good, I can fix things when I get home
You don't have three different ways of connecting home? If one breaks 😛
I always wanted to get around to firewall knocking
But never had the time
Oh, I do, I've got Wireguard too 😉
But there's a limit to what I want to do remotely
Plus, I think the fscking Intents have changed since the last time I connected to untrusted Wifi...
😛
I have more data than I use, and almost global coverage with it, I don't use untrusted wifi much
I should setup automatic connect to my openvpn
When I have time ...
Tasker was not straight forward
Need to study how to use it properly
Ordered a Ryzen 5... My cheap GPU upgrade turned out to cost me a lot after all 😕
makes literally no difference in my use
depends on the expected workloads
AMD🤢
ATX 🤢
futureproofing 🙂
futureproofing is usually a bad idea imo
eh, "depends"
for sure
building a PC once a decade is better than upgrading piecemeal every few years
future proofing by getting a mobo that has additional ram slots you're not using can help
again that depends Brian. You can usually get decent money for components that are a few years old
Mid range i5 at the time
I just sold the i5 2500k that I had... Finally there's some progress with cpus again
until the heartbleed mitigations
Indeed, but very few of my customers have even noticed the mitigations tbh
Only niche cases will actually notice it irl
current AMD is actually legit though
Atleast the first design they had of the recent architecture was shite
definitely, that's been fixed though
Not sure if they fixed the design since
their NUMA was a mess
Yes exactly
that's fully resolved with their current line
So most of my customers who ordered AMD returned them
And still they won't order them
we'll see. the benchmarks for multi-socket workloads are impressive
its an up-hill fight for sure
Yeah, but it is still memory that is the constraint in 80% of environments
And migrating from intel to amd requires planned downtime for the virtualized workloads, which makes it hard and one way
the shear number of pcie4 lanes would also be interesting to some customers
Maybe, I don't see anyone having constraints there, most can fit 2x2x25gbit and 2x2x16gbit and see no issues still
iirc the max memory per socket is higher with latest amd too
Maybe when we move to 100 and 32 Gbit
We do 3TB per dual socket now I think, or it might have upped to 4TB
maybe. I think some of the compute workloads would add "gpu" type things to their servers
AMD is 4T / Socket
so double the ram on a dual socket box with similar numa mapping (allegedly)
huh. the .5 is odd
And optane, which I don't think amd has something similar
lol Intel is telling people to test their latest optane on AMD because its pcie4
because they don't have a board+cpu to handle it
No letter = Normal Memory Support (1.0 TB)
M = Medium Memory Support (2.0 TB)
L = Large Memory Support (4.5 TB)
i think the amd argument there is that its a few grand cheaper per cpu though compared to the L cpus from blue
No wait.. not optane, I was thinking of the persistent DDR memory
i think that's optane?
optane is NUTS
because Intel has a great track-record with naming things these days 😛
With naming at all
their model numbers are getting dumb
Yeah, I just use the internal cheat sheets
not sure why they kept the numbering scheme with 10th gen...
We even have a few models that are HPE specific that you can't get at other vendors
makes it confusing
it's 2020, I want my quantum computer.
They are also rumoring a Core i9-10990XE which might need up to a kilowatt in heavy use. Something for atxbyea 😉
dissing gamers 😦
Who know all about desktops, but have never worked in IT and lives home with mom at age 45 😛
Out of interest: Any thoughts about https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/home-scanner.html
or comparable?
I got Outlook installed on my work iphone. It’s making Windows noises. That ain’t right!
@boreal pewter if someone would just integrate nmap + zenmap into HA it could scan everything for you wired and wireless. You could probably make automations and alerts etc.
Yeah, if we only focus on the cases those programs cover. (I didn't want to get it HA related here tho since it is forbidden)
What I think about is in a wider range tho, having a backend database on such a scan tool with all known brands, products, standard passwords and other security flaws they may have
There have been enough stories of hijacked IP cams and such (not that I'm afraid of it or need), but I guess there're many not so advanced users
I block my IP cams from the internet, they can only talk to things on the lan
I guess there're many not so advanced users
I also block communication with china and russia to and from my network lol
Regarding Smarthome gets new users daily and many many many non-it people get on that train to monitor their child, home and other things and probably have only used a PC to check mails yet in their life
there'ven't been many
yeah well, you can't save those people from themselves lol
perhaps homekit would be good for them, apple stuff is usually geared towards non tech people.
True, but it would be good to know if you can suggest those simply a program that does such a check without the need of getting manually on everything
You know family that needs help from the only "IT guy" in the family 😛
Looking at monitors all day and you sure must know everything 😄
problem is the dummy proof stuff is almost always insecure because secure and dummy proof don't usually go together.
Idjits will be idjits anyway
They will break something and then say you said we were safe
pretty much
that's why you charge them to make it as secure as you can while still being easy for them to use.
I'm the worst kind of idjit

I learn stuff and then I forget things or don't work on it regularly so it's all gonna come cRASHING down
Thanks atx
you're alright
even though you keep being sick all over me
🤢
runs
@forest edge i think this doorbell is going back
twice it's gone to complete crap, video has completely stopped working yet again.... restarting it doesn't fix it, i have to factory reset
I hate dealing with outsourced support
same... i called amcrest yesterday and it was clear they weren't english speaking, nor did they have a clue about the product
Edgerouter x is going back 😢 unless there's a decent inexpensive AP that supports a guest network it probably makes more sense for me to return it and get a router that includes a WiFi radio
Since I can't use the Google WiFi with it as an AP and still have a guest network without creating a double NAT situation
I just detroyed my Guest Network by changing the CIDR and I can't find the problem
I often feel bad for Tier 1 Outsourced support.
They get a checklist and deal with a bunch of angry people
all so that some company can save a few dollars
@steel urchin that sucks, mine has been working fine all morning
Damn... hate when i get hit by what the 1-star reviews have... https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B07ZJS3L5Y/ref=acr_dp_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=one_star&reviewerType=all_reviews#reviews-filter-bar
yeah give it another 8ish hours
Well damnatoin
i didn't have to upgrade my transformer. my 22vac powered it just fine
At least you have a nice paperweight
mine worked fine for about 8hours, then went kaput... video was absolute garbage over rtsp and app didn't want to even see it online... factory reset, all good... woke up this morning, no video over rtsp and app says it's offline
i'm going to swap it and see what happens
yea i'd swap it before giving up
so far the majority of the reviews have been positive given it's price point
just sucks it takes so long for shit to show up, and i'm going out of town
I mean it is an 89 buck video doorbell afterall, it's not going to be prestine lol
it won't even ring the doorbell anymore
well... 2nd one ordered... going to factory reset for the 3x in less than 24 hours
Or... Not... It won't even respond to the reset button
I am currently using owntracks as a GPS tracker but am thinking of flying on ha app alone. Since it's a lot of testing involved to compare I was wondering if anyone could provide any experience report or maybe even recommendations.
flipped breaker to pull power, booted up and now rtsp and functions work, except app doesn't see it online - yet still tells me when motion fires and button push brings up the call screen with broken video
lovely
@steel urchin how do you break everything you touch? lol
it's clearly not just me
maybe you got a short in the wiring
nah, it's the unit
if the camera is constantly micro grounding out it would cause it to fail
so just got off the phone with them, apparently it's a well known issue
their solution is to just replace it, so we'll give it another try
the technician i finally got to speak to said they've been having about a 30% failure rate as of late
that sucks
well atleast they admit there is an issue so replacement won't be an issue
amazon is surprisingly painless to return to, i just go to kohl's and drop it off
just a pain to get the stuff 🤣
finally got all my motion shit switched over so I could turn off the little pi cam i havve in the window lol
i wonder if the hikvision works with the standard wiring or if it's required to use POE?
that's who makes the RCA one i was lookign at before
that was like like around 100 bucks and then went to like 150ish
that one seems tried and true, but i can't find it anywhere
i don't want to order from china, it'll take forever to get here and likely won't be able to return if there's issues
ah, nvm.. here it is: https://amzn.to/2RiGlvP
has the better vertical view
if you put an sdcard in your doorbell don't forget to remove it lol
the amcrest
i was reading the documentation
and then saw it in the amazon reviews as well
thats bs
yyyeeeep
as in not true, i already tried that lol
you get 1 year free when you create an account
at least NOW you do, you used to not
either way, i don't have one in there... so i'm good there
anyone happen to know if this is a decent router? https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC1750-Smart-WiFi-Router/dp/B079JD7F7G/
Tplink🤢
i wouldn't go with tp-link myself but I read they aren't horrible
stick with the more tried and true brand, asus, linksys, netgear ect
How did I know that was coming atx 🙄

I have a few tp-link switches
Why no USG?
Price
switches and such is one thing
And I'd need an AP
Asus are supposedly decent, but I haven't used consumer routers in almost 20 years so I don't know
And I don't need commercial hardware lol
The Asus good one I know is 400 bucks I think tho
I've stuck with linksys my whole life and never had one let me down
even the cheap crap like the e1200 lol
stick tomato or ddwrt on it and the device is worth more than it's sticker lol
netgear isn't bad
my camera 🙂 https://imgur.com/a/SCOICJE
i love rtsp
@scenic radish Please not a tplink
Netgear was some of the worst crap around the millennium atleast
still is
yea thier lower end stuff is garbage
Ugh Neverknowledge
but thier high tier is actually decent
All I need to know is pfsense does what o tell it 😛
lol
i've been happy for the last few years with my Netgear R7000
@scenic radish i love mine with openwrt
Untangle was ok, but just not good enough
.... UniFi
USG Gang
Unifi 🤢
Lol
oh yea.. got a openwrt one laying around too
The Netgear ac1000 seems promising
Lol
@boreal pewter going to get a UDM Pro?
@steel urchin i will say the rtsp stream of this camera isn't true 1080
infact i think they upscale from 720 in the app
1080 upscale yay
I guess I should specify I don't want or need enterprise hardware. Just need a dual-band router that supports NAT loopback, port forwarding, a guest network, and (maybe) VLANs
And there are so many I can't decide lol
lol not vvlans not again
As soon as you said vlans
Ehh I said maybe
Bye consumer
Then no vlan. Just a guest network
may way was
several! boxes from the ISP
netgear Nighthawk
Linksys wrt ACsomething,
TPlink Archer c50
ER-x + uAP
@scenic radish ac1750 v2 is what I have and OpenWrt has a good community with this device. IF you don't need gbit Lan-Wan! If then get the opensource netgear thingy with openwrt... looks like a frickin spider
@scenic radish pick from this list lol https://www.tech21century.com/best-tomato-routers/
the TPlink Archer was fun . Such a security nightmare that it runs OpenWRT now
Want it? @scenic radish
Yeah I'm returning it @forest edge ... and getting the Nelly
Wrt 1900ACS if you have gigabit wan
i just hope it covers all the holes made from now 3 doorbells
Thank you to those who actually helped and didn't just 🤢 lol
i don't want to have to try and match paint on a 2mo old house lol
it should the nelly one is huge lol
i guess i'll let you know tomorrow or later tonight if mine starts to act weird lol
but so far been pretty solid for the last 4ish hours
@hearty depot no i don't, good to know
i had it up on VLC for almost the entirety of the install, and then it went kaput... right now everything works except video FROM the app (which i know isn't an issue for you, but right now it is for me)
and the amcrest integration doesn't work
@steel urchin should givve me your security screw cause i f'in lost mine lol
you can tune those things and set your wifi db to 30db or more..
of course I don't do any of this, this is of course illegal depending on where you live
lol now who's bad with stuff?
actually i felt the way all the screws in the damn thing were a pain in the butt
because they're bugle-heads it shifted my plate because i wasn't 1-trillion percent accurate in my angle
so all the tapping and aligning to make it level meant jack shit once i screwed it in
granted, it's only off by a little bit and isn't really visible to be crooked, it irked me
lol
invest in a punch
makes that stuff way easier
need to figure out how to pipe the doorbell notification in ha without using the amecrest intergartion
oh gross i don't think the amcrest api can do local lol
i have one somewhere but it's hard to find in all my boxes... still need to do a lot of stuff in the garage
i both love and hate this video lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rb1dvLmmsk
I've been interested in a video doorbell camera for a long time, but didn't want to get tied to a monthly service fee or use a completely cloud-based camera. This RCA HSDB2A doorbell seems to meet those requirements. It uses existing wiring for power and WiFi to transmit the ...
🚪 🔔 🎥
the first revision of that doorbell someone had made custom firmware for it which I wanted
but i couldn't find the damn thing for sale anywhere
who was pimping the TS-100?
@tidal bronze ?
Adam adds to his shop infrastructure with a build for one of his new favorite tools: a USB-powered soldering iron. This compact mobile soldering station carries everything Adam needs for simple wire soldering work, and is designed around his own usage patterns and procedures!...
only thing about this nelly doorbell is i don't know what the best way to integrate it is
it says onvif support but people have had problems with it not fully working (but don't explain what's not working to know if it's user error or what)..
it dosen't like being cut off from the internet that's for sure
the rtsp dosen't stop or anything
but my indicator light flashes 4 times then pauses lol
kind of annoying i will admit, minor thing but still
I hope it stops over time
this is why I don't support any of the youtubers even when they do find something interesting. not one of them goes into real detail when reviewing products lol
well i re-ordered it, should be here mon/tues so i'll swap it out and see how it goes
going to go back to the 24VA transformer as well, as the tech specs say 16-24 is supported...
for all i know that could have caused an issue as well
should be quick since the plate is already on there, just replace the actual doorbell, and the transformer was a simple 10 minute thing (and now that i found my headlamp will be easier than working in the dark)
bobs
lol
may have to do an operation on mine if the light dosen't stop blinking
I wonder if it's squaking over not reaching a the time server
A pi3 with ssd is running my 2nd ha instance(light and light remotes). But not as higly available as needed. Thinking about a a orange pi or so. Good idea?
€ 54,63 | Orange Pi 4 4GB DDR4+16GB EMMC Flash Rockchip RK3399 Dual-core+Quad-core Cortex Development Board Support Android,ubuntu,debian

The Orange Pi range isn't as well supported as the Raspberry ones, but I'm preferring my Orange Pi Zero to the Raspberry Pi Zero it replaced
Different manufacturers?
The emmc storage adds the value as far as I can tell/understand
Would guess that I can throw Debian on it and good to runble
Yeah, they run hotter, and run Armbian rather than Raspbian/Debian
Never even heard of before
Eeh.. the Pi's are already so hot 👎
Team Odroid
Lol a stolen pi 3 with a card slot
@steel urchin more bad news. https://ipvm.com/reports/dahua-oem this is who makes the doorbell it's just rebranded lol
there's even a config tool that will let you assign a static ip to the thing, but dosen't appear to do much else
they banned many products OEMS were selling from Dahua
I don't see the doorbell being on the list but that dosen't exactly make it alright lol
yeah....
apparently there has been a crap ton of foul play both through lack of security as well as even a backdoor thing lol
need a user manual? this is the same doorbell, just looks alittle diffrent lol https://fccid.io/SVNDHI-DB11/User-Manual/User-Manual-3805628
Are you ditching it?
no
Aka, ding dong ditch 🤣
most of it is audio type crap
Well I'm back on the old transformer, the new one will be here Monday-ish
like them being able to hack in the audio feed, wtf do i care if they listen to outside my door lol
Right? Don't event care if they see the feed either
plus i cut the doorbell off the net comletelly so they can't evven do that
as long as it ding dongs and pipes the rtsp feed thats all i care about lol
i really like the idea of talking to the person at the door
and if the blink continue to blink, well the light will go poof lol
so i can tell a door to door salesman (although we haven't had any, don't think they'll even be allowed in) to fuck off
i'll def need to look at motioneye since the integration is doodoo
sensors don't even register due to not being able to hit the api properly
(which i also am wondering if was causing some internal server error by basically DOSing itself due to 500 errors)
YAFR (yet another factory reset) and it's back up and running
let's see how long it lasts with the integration off and the transformer back to the lower voltage
hope digiblurDIY dosen't get mad for plastering the truth on his video but oh well, people should know lol
@steel urchin integration is trash imo because it relies soley on the api. not only is there a minimum 10 second throttle that dosen't include any additional delay with network.
yeah the feed was super delayed
so the motion sensor will be as fast as 10 seconds behind actual motion ect
so motioneye will shim the feature?
motioneye is instant
shoot, might as well look into it.. after i clean my keyboard.. got some weird grease on it from touching tools :S
well as instant as it can from feed to motioneye ect
the rtsp feed into motioneye is not 30fps tho
it fluctuates but some stuttering is bound to happen and it floats around 20fps or so
which is perfectly fine by me, but don't go thinking it's gonna be buttery smooth lol
you want buttery smooth you need a better wired cam
i do like butter, but i can live with 20fps.. i'm assuming that's because of all the processing motioneye does?
also what are you running on? i forget
on an rpi4 so it may be better/diffrent for you
ah, yeah i'm on an i7 4770k... we'll see in a few...
easy to add, not a fan it stores credentials in plain text
i'm idling around 29.9 fps
sounds good to me
well if you find a way to get rid of the default timestamp junk i'd love it
lol I loaded up the IP config util and it instantly went offline, and bleh
i had found this https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx1GXWDWNVP94D1
it found it.. i started going through the panels and it went offline
what ip config
oh some amcrest software lol
oh shit thats a clone of the config thing i mentioned earlier from dahu lol
just power cycled the breaker again, turns out i have to leave it off for a full minute, it holds power pretty good
jesus, this thing is so finnicky... i left it off for 5min just now to try and factory reset it again... gotta wait for it to boot up...
I tried to up the fps alittle and it rebooted back to same settings lol
mine is non responsive now
i hear a tiny light click sound when i hold the reset button down for ~10s, presumably the speaker getting some light power then dying... light is on, but no ding dong, no reset, no nothing
had me alittle excited there for a sec
thought it was gonna let me up some of the values
I wonder if the high fps is what caused your to crap out
maybe thats why mine is set to 15 lol
yeah i set it to 30fps in that tool
mine won't let me change it from 15
i don't know if it actually set or was already offline at that point
but, it sounds like a dead unit atm
lol
talk about frustrating
so the new one arrives monday or tuesday, the doorbell guy is dropping a check off wednesday... i just want it to ring for him so i can rub it in his face lol
did you at least try the timestamp overlay removal?
I didn't see an option for it
well at least i got a brief intro to motioneye lol
The tiny click sound is most likely the IR filter
mm definitely sounds like a piezo speaker
it happens on "command" when i hold the reset button down
you rebooted it so much it no longer thinks it's a camera
lol or a doorbell... thing literally only lights up and that's it
@steel urchin doorbells don't like you.
or they're just garbage
i mean the "Senior Technician" admitted they have a 30% failure rate.. he was surprised i was able to get it to reboot at all previously
Did you try powering it direct ?
yeah actually... direct from the transformer
Bypassing the run ?
yep
for all i know when everyone suggested going to the 30va transformer may not have been helpful
There is always headroom with specs.
Specially for something like a doorbell then again I don't know how they think when designing these things😄
I was going to get the amcrest and try it out. Let's see.
UPS wars 🤣
last one was a stupid DIN8. so silly
The tech specs list 16-24 (which i found later on a sketch ftp link), 30 is a significant overhead
Yes/no
but either way, it was exhibiting issues within hours of install... a new one is coming along anyway
Regulator in such a device will not be 16-24 if the spec is 16-24, always considerably higher
should have seen the rtsp feed (when nothing else was working)... looked like a 8-bit filter 🤣
i love this Ron Swanson character, he's hilarious
WTF
this camera had outbound traffic to some goverment office in OH DoD
yea department of defense
did you wave?
no idea what it sent
i promplty put it back on block lol
there was like tons of outbound to amazon tech, then i started to see the dod shit and was like wtf is going on lol
huh... why would it send anything to either?
darn. stupid webcard lost it's firmware, needs a new driver file.
well.. my 4th device, that has a gen-U-ine DB9 on it. that should be easy for a change.
I bet I can get it right in 2 tries. 🙂
so apparently amazon handles thier api
makes sense
ah so like an aws proxy
Do not locate the switch near any data or electrical cabling.
manual for my 48port gige switch
wireless, battery operated switch! huzzah!
new switch just INFERS data!
put a million packet monkeys in a room...
@forest edge what camera
shame this thing had such potential
@modest sentinel dude that Sylvania light strip is bright as hell
that amcrest ad110 or whatever
Just got it today. Now I need to find a use for it lol
put it abovve your head in the bedroom and automate it to turn on when we ping you from discord
Excellent idea
Can't you just block it
I did block it
BUT
the stupid light ring around the button flashes when it can't call china or the DoD apaprently
Lol
wow
it's about to get an operation tomorrow with my soldering iron
could you sniff to see what it's looking for, and stub it out?
thats what i was doing when i found out it was pinging the DoD lol
then i blocked it promptly
@steel urchin thats the same camera i think
almost has me wondering if it's the same thing in that shelly camera even tho that one looks drasticly diffrent
that DB1 is all over the Dauf or whatever the hell that company was
so if you see DB1 thats an indicator
this amcrest ip config thing allows you to upload firmware
so maybe someone will come up with something
or maybe theres already something i haven['t found yet
Go go gadget Sonoma!
I'm about to give the dogs a bath and break my back more. Weeee
should automate that 😛
Is there something like tasker but for windows
Basically I'm using a windows 10 tablet as a dashboard
And I want something that can turn the screen on and off based off camera motion, external calls etc
hmm
maybe autohotkey?
i'm not really aware of anything specific
windows might not look too fondly at that kind of thing. would behave too closely to malware
Ahk is easy to grasp, although it has horrible syntax
it really does
I made a workspace manager with it, spent maybe 2 hours working the actual working part of it, and another 2 weeks for the shitty gui 🤣
auto hot key. I've heard of this before
i used it to drop a signature into our shitty ticketing system
i've wanted to go clean up the code, but it works well enough for my uses
I wonder how good python is at controlling and listening to windows desktop events
I could run a flask API on the laptop :D
And hit it with ha REST
@scenic radish lol, yeah told ya that thing was good! glad you got it
w32api i think is the module you want
i used it to automate some ms outlook stuff in the past
a tool to create webex meeting invites and then add details to a ticket
pywin32
also, here's the docs because they don't link to it from their github for some dumb reason: http://timgolden.me.uk/pywin32-docs/
depending on what exactly you're trying to do, AHK really does have some nice features, like waiting for a window to be available, m/k simulation, etc
@modest sentinel except... now i need to find a use for it lol
disco lights whenever someone complains about something in #330944238910963714 / #330990055533576204
add some ML to identify the complaints
or go green every time ATX splats a 🤢
or just assume whenever someone without a role speaks its a complaint 😛
/s
lol so make sure to talk a lot to give Ted a seizure
ugh, it's so hard to shave without my side mounted mirror
👍
still think you should mount it above your bed and turn on full bright when we ping you from discord
Bright Light blinking and have a 70db siren go off for pings
get a klaxon
"Alert! Someone Deleted their SD Card again!"
"A user needs help reading the manual!"
@steel urchin well you might be right. i think my camera just flaked lol
when you power cycled it you didn't have to like reset everything back up did you from scratch?
Yikes
i left it pulled for a few hours while i tended to other stuff and tried again, nada
well, let me rephrase... i didn't HAVE to in your use-case.. RTSP was working the first time i had to reset.. the 2nd time it was super blocky, like it was going from a 160p res to 1080p res.. so i factory reset that time.. 3rd time all video stopped working but motion and doorbell function were intact, and now on the 4th time i have a brick
lol
well i'm not messing with it tonight, just made sure it wasn't connected or putting off an AP and it can sit out there with it's solid blue light all night for all i care
This is why I want a POE camerw
:D
Less cloud bullshit too. Just simple ONVIF
Just getting a camera in the right position can be tricky though
A dome mounted on the wall near the door at shoulder height is best but it can be unsightly
i just think it's cool to talk to the person at my front door without getting up 😛 or being away from the house
True
anything else i don't really have a need for, myself
yeah it's about that, and i wasn't sure if it was required PoE or what... but no way i'm running PoE through the trim n all that shit
i was hanging outside with some of the neighbor's yesterday, and one of them noticed another got the works on the cameras and stuff on her house from the security company (aka doorbell people), and while she was bragging the old man goes "if they climb over the wall or break through the gate, they deserve my stuff" and i about died of laughter inside
They usually won't have wifi if they're poe
H265 is worth its weight in gold as well
yeah, so now you can stop talkin shit about my luck 😛
and the scary thing is, the majority of the video doorbells belong to one of 4 companies and are rebranded lol
that nelly's one
yep
people say overheats lol
thing is, when you watch the nelly vids, they make it out like they created that hardware
but, it's clearly a rebrand of older hardware
I don't like the look of that one but as messed up as it is, it's still one of the better ones aside from what we already got lmao
yea it's hikovision or whatever
rca sells it, nelly and ezvidz or something
i've seen like 5 or 6 companies rebranded it
some changed the bodies, most haven't even bothered with that
Hence why it's good to just get a professional poe camera and a zigbee button a lot of the time
well there is only like 4 video doorbell companies hogging the market, and each has thier shit rebranded so many times you can't tell what is what lol
its like jasco for some of the zwave stuff
yeah but at least they have licensing hoops to jump through
i wouldn't even know where to begin on how to wire the front door for POE
drillydrilly hole
my wires came out of a super tiny itty bitty hole, i had to drill some holes under it and use my tiniest chisel to clean it out so the wires would fit somewhere when i put the amcrest in place
lol
yea that shit is for remodel or new house construct
I wouldn't even try and do mine
yeah, this house i didn't get any say in the build :S
or i wouldn't have this shitty knockdown texture
sweet amazon just dropped off my replacement doorbell
haha just pulling your leg, figured you'd freak lol
GOTTEM
he really did
lol someone should ban that image and watch him freak out
need to figure out what i want to do cause just replacing it seems like a bad idea lol
Where I live most houses are double brick with cavity
So running things on external walls isn't too painful
well i'm replacing it to give it a shot... but if you see something that screams "buy me" please let me know...
the only thing about this thing that screamed that was rstp and 89 bucks lol
nothing else has both of those
$20 too expensive to be nice
n 🧊 !
@scenic radish you got that light automated yet?
was hikovision or the daula or whateverr
nelly says DB2 maybe it's an updated version and not the one that overheats lol
i almost pulled the trigger on it, but i'm pissed about having put more holes in the trim board
i've seen the eufy one mentioned quite a bit - https://amzn.to/30pDbKO
119-10 right now
but... digital chime which would take up an outlet :S
it's astounding how this got such great reviews
they don't support rtsp on that (yet)
course you like the app stuff so that shouldn't bother you lol
I like some of the reviews on some of these cameras, posts a picture of a blob that looks like a person with the review of 5 stars, images look great!
i mean i DO want a stream, seems more flexible
These days I've heard that you've got to worry about Bot reviews/paid reviews
Company offers to reimburse you if you give a 5 star
or you get a coupon or some thing
wondering if using the rtsp is what killed this amcrest lol
cause codex said he ran it through vlc all night as well
prob overheated and died
rofl look at THIS https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71job4GFMsL.jpg
nightmare fuel for me
Dang it. I was looking at those amcrests
yep
that and/or constantly hitting the broken api
it was kinda warm to the touch, but not sure how shielded it is
it's free returns for me, i'm going to try it a few times to see how it goes.. might get one that lasts?
lol try not using rtsp for a few days and see what happens
if it lives then try rtsp and dee if it dies
i just clicked on 104 without making a snashot lol
living dangerously!
i've been slowly reading the change log
gonna need to work on my light group or somethin
psshh read, who reads
i just noticed it about a few hours ago
Same
I didn't get that yet 😦
so I bought a reef tank to upgrade from my 30gal
and well.. it's fucking huge
kinda bigger than I expected. I pick up the woman from the airport in 40 mins so I'll see her reaction...
disappoint
not yet, still strongly considering keeping.. also it was a bitch to move
250lb just for the glass...
glass is heavy. 🙂
gonna have to make sure the floor can handle the weight because it'll be closer to a ton fully stocked
should have done that first, but I didn't have time
but if you get an apex, ping me.. I have a ton of scripts and API toys for one. 🙂
is that a controller?
yah
ill look that up. There are lots of youtube videos in my future
I have a few things, one of which is an apex->influxdb data feeder
i got a reefer 525, custom stand, I need to get a skimmer and a ro/di unit
neptune apex. really good stuff. I have 2. 🙂
on the page now 🙂
@forest edge check PM
rude
@proper swift what tank do you have? have any pics?
I have a 125 and an 800
800 o_O
Crazy things I do or have done:
I love reef aquariums:
My current aquarium is an 800 gallon monster .
I've kept many aquariums in the past .
You can even...
oops.. pics link is down.. oh well.
that is insane, I love it
did you have to do anything for the floor to support it? I imagine so
Anyone in venv tonight?
the 800 is still in progress. lots and lots of work
Just got a copperband, always wanted one, seems to be doing well.. about a month so far
thumbnails work but fullsize images dont, i get the idea if i squint though
hrmm.. odd.. I'll have to check from external again
I have a 29 full of guppies
wierd.. they don't load on first view but reload makes them show up
gotta fix that later. 🙂
naw, I have other stuff.. I take a very slow approach
i can appreciate that... looking at my tank right now I definitely want to take it slow
I'm not the "throw a bunch in and then chase fixing it" type. I'm the slowly add and rebalance
How long has the tank been running?
Technically 10 years, but there was a massive crash a few years ago. in it's current incarnation 1 year. (the crash was a house flood that took out all the support equipment, a mains pipe burst)
ah that sucks, sorry to hear that
things occur.
"the glass is already broken"
Shit! No fun... it takes me months to get a fresh tank right, I can’t imagine what salt tanks take
off2bed. 🙂 buy an apex. you won't regret it.
@proper swift @dull chasm also loves tanks, you too can probably exchange a few ideas, I know he has put a lot of effort into them

WOOOOOT! mdi:string-lights in da house!
rofl
Box inside a box with all gen 1 CC stuff
Already running with little bit of sauce 🤣
they don't sell those anymore or something?
nope, got killed
oh wow
with no viable replacement
Yep pretty sad
ew that means they could kill, kill it at any time then
Let's hope not
i have that first gen chromecast as well, looks just like that lol
I have 2 left. Can't join speaker groups
I bought one hoping it was going to be more than what it was and over time they made it do less lol
cause you use to be able to launch apps from it
5 or 6 Alexa minis as paper weights as well
that sucks
alexa mini?
The small round things. Lol. That was short lived at my place
Yep those.
that bitch does everything at my house

I went head first when they released but after GH pulled them out. Oh there's 1 for drop in in the garage
Spotcast creater definitely deserves some coffee 😀
i have one, kinda wish i had 2 but oh well
Dot ?
CC-As
I am looking for my other one.
Got a spare 12" sub that I want to sync low end in the living area.
heh
With delay adjustment possibilities are limitless
Plan is to sync 5 subs on 3 different platforms all using CCA lol
all about that bass
Yep. Not using Klipsch wireless link.
All because of https://github.com/fondberg/spotcast👍
@steel urchin you leaving your brick powered all night? i disconnected mine, don't want to risk any spazing waking me up in the middle of the night lol
I cut the power to the transformer for now
Sucks cuz I'm about to head out of town and don't have even a basic doorbell
But what would wake you up?
🔥
fire would hopefully wake you up
I dunno the chime spazing maybe
in the middle of the night cause the doorbell is freaking out
Oh damn yours is going crazy?
Fire is polite. It doesn't wake me
Mine just stopped
NO, it's not, i don't want to risk it lol
Fire and lots of it is your solution to everything phnx
wish i could send some to some of my customers
"package for you." "oh boy what is I-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
eh i just rigged the basic doorbell to it... i'm just worried about breaking the wires... solid copper and like 18awg
i've bent them so many times afraid they'll snap... might solder some stranded wire and heat shrink it so i can keep messing with stuff and not mess up the original wiring
lol
the wire is coiled up above, there's probably what feels like 10ft coiled up right under the transformer, but i dunno if it's stapled or not... might try seeing if i can pull more out and go from there
nothing wrong with soldering stranded wire onto the solid coper. it's all low voltage so it's not like it's gonna melt lol

that fire is better
it's weird, literally the other day I made a comment about how to make an entity remain when it doesn't exist (ie unplugged) after a restart, i get my wish today and now i'm annoyed at having to "clean" entities that were a blessing to be auto removed prior lol
@wet pilot mine are always better
@forest edge 1 6-pack plox for the complaint 😛
lol
wtf, when did discord add the markdown popup when you highlight your own message? I just now seeing this lol
yesterday
gots a good feeling 104 is going to bring a lot of people here for questions lol
Probably one of the best songs ever
even though the live versions are great, the studio version always gets me more
zzzz my job today got cancelled, so now I just have a conf call at 12
waiting zzzzzzz
Reeeeeeeeee
That’s gotta be public sector surely
dreamweaver use to be the premium way to manage/create sites lol
the built in ftp ect and file management was pretty cutting edge at the time
i used it lol
@ocean mirage nöt cölling möds töday ?
Whæt ær jø mæning ?
noot coolling moods tooday
hmf
I should probably start packing my stuff soon
and charging my devices that I will bring along for the flight
what is your choice on entertainment on flight
I'll just sync a lot of plex stuff
bring my phone, ipad and kindle on board
oh lawd have mercy, the customer I'm confing with is running bare metal windows servers
🤢
what is this, 2003
and deploying windows via pxe boot 🤢
das boot
Someone is not going to be happy today
when they tell me they have pause flood frames
and I say it is because their ciscos suck

Have you ever done a Wardley map
considering I had to google it
no
oh the irony
swallowing stomach acid pills with coffee
🤣
how does one go about suggesting a new room?
I think there should be a room to discuss image processing / video analytics
currently chatting with people in both #cameras-archived and #609399695466430465
#cameras-archived you mean 🤣
it should fit in that room
for all the offical components
but wont that include people fixing up basic issues with cameras
asking for recommendations etc
this would be specifically for using cameras with image processing / machine learning
it would be nice if the chatter regarding tools such as deepstream was all in one place
I know of at least 3 of us (and ive barely looked) that are building similar components
almost sounds more like a #developers topic then
its a visibility issue, that would make it worse
edge AI is just taking off
and loads of people will be adding corals and jetson nanos
edge AI has been the talk for years already, if it is taking off is another discussion 😉 I started discussing it with developers atleast 4 years ago
but implementations however are slow
hitting mainstream is what I mean
affordable, available, usable
particularly regarding camera analytics
its such a rich source of sensor info
thats previously been off limits unless you wanted to violate your privacy
I think the downsides of having an extra room are outweighed by increasing collaboration for developers working on similar topics
