Doctors have let us down a lot on diagnosises

#

Humans aren't good at diagnosis

steel urchin
#

a buddy of mine works on machine learning for identifying cancer, brain damage, etc... Leaders in the world on the matter... They have a 10% success rate

#

so i'm not sure what you're going on about 🀣

#

now, we're talking across the board, any one particular thing can be trained well enough

#

but if you're talking all possible diagnosis, i think mutations make things too hard

#

based on how i hear him talk about it, anyway

#

Julia is the platform of choice there is best as I know

Plex audio is not bad

ok i am going to go to bed so i can deal with these doorbell jerks again in the morning... according to amazon my doorbell should be here tomorrow, but i have a good feeling it'll be pushed 3-5 days

#

Plex 4 lyfe

#

I can't understand the people who are still using Kodi

hushed basalt
#

Kodi had some advantages

#

Especially for subtitle users

#

Plex front end apps have always given the middle finger for subtitle users

#

OpenPHT and infuse are much better in that regard

clear ferry
#

I haven't used subtitles until two years ago

hushed basalt
#

I couldn't have used plex if I had to rely on Plex dev apps

clear ferry
#

But Plex just downloads subtitles for users in any language for me via opensubtitles now

hushed basalt
#

Plex used to transcode on subtitles for a long long time

#

Plus no ability to sync timing

clear ferry
#

Only some formats

hushed basalt
#

No, it used to be always

clear ferry
#

Really? That must be a long time ago

hushed basalt
#

They just didn't care

#

And if the timing was off their official answer was to download a different subtitle and insert the srt into the folder and update the library

steel urchin
#

kodi has so many features that plex doesn't have

#

it's almost an entire OS, really

#

but i'll be retrying plex here pretty soon... need to get through some other stuffs

clear ferry
#

I probably got away from most of those problems since I never used subtitles, unless hard coded anime series

I deal with droplets.. i like droplets.. and then sometimes i have to deal with.. dun dun dun shared webhosts

and those are the worst

hushed basalt
#

This is why we can't have nice things

#

My old companies website is hosted on something like that

#

Or whatever you call it

#

Like heroku but shittier

forest edge
#

if it weren't all the nimwits who wanted simple one click blog sites and crap like that, they wouldn't survive lol

hushed basalt
#

Hosted by some company I've never heard of. Where you have an ftp location to drop to, a "managed" mysql location, and a "managed" WordPress installation

forest edge
#

yup, although they are way more cluttered now with options

hushed basalt
#

Here's a question

forest edge
#

I can't even create db using phpmyadmin through this thing, it forces you to use the cpanel lol

hushed basalt
#

Can a domain be changed without compromising SEO ranking

#

The site is a domain.com when I told them they really should use a .com.au

#

But the website guy said that would destroy all the SEO

#

I don't know about you but whenever I'm looking for a local service I always look for the local TLD

light trout
#

Destroy? Probably not, but it will have an impact. It will be a completely new site

hushed basalt
#

I thought there were TXT records you could put in

#

To tell google hey this site is over here now pls don't bash me

wet pilot
#

or have both?

hushed basalt
#

Or in Google search console

light trout
#

There are steps you can take to smooth things.
But the indexers will need to "build trust" again.
I think both Google and bing offer some migrate tools

wet pilot
#

and redirect?

hushed basalt
#

Well i would of had the .com redirect to the com.au

#

But they have it the other way around

forest edge
#

thankfully i never had to mess with any of that seo ranking shit, i just create the crap and what happens to the site after that is not my problem lol

#

but then I don't think i ever ran across sites changing domains either

hushed basalt
#

The amount of times I've been looking for a local service and have to dig into their contact us to find out if they're Australian or not

#

Grrrr

steel urchin
#

i have a few sites on free hosts like that Sonoma

#

they're garbage but i treat them as static file hosts

forest edge
#

these are all side projects that people need for various crap

#

usually forums or blogs ect

steel urchin
forest edge
#

lol oh well I never had to do anything on anything like that lol

#

if it's someone i've known i'll stomach the share hosting crap like i am doing right now, but usually if it's anything less than a droplet i tell them to get lost lol

Really don't like the way Amazon are delivering Spinning Rust HDs at the moment. Taken out of the normal HD packaging and put in the same bits of cardboard they deliver books in.

hushed basalt
#

OpTiMiZaTiOn

#

I think the way Amazon works they charg the seller a flat fee per item depending on it's weight/volume

#

So if they add extra packaging it just means Amazon loses out

#

And if the drive is faulty then the seller pays the return processing fee and loses the product

#

So it's win win for Amazon. They still get their storage and fulfillment fees plus return handling.

clear ferry
#

Not every month

hushed basalt

I guess it would be nice is Amazon gave sellers an option to pay extra for extra protective packaging

past idol
#

do you guys think that using a custom email domain is less secure than just using a provider?

wet pilot
#

depends

clever mortar
#

Depends on what you mean by secure...

#

If you're going to run that mail server yourself... well, odds are good that it's massively less secure

#

If you mean have a custom domain and have somewhere competent manage the email... well, then it depends on those people

brisk glen
#

you can have a custom domain and have office 365 manage it

clever mortar
#

I haven't run my own mail server for over a decade - I have the skills, I just don't have time to dedicate to it

#

There's a good few options out there, Microsoft, Google, and more

last dirge
#

nothing says secure like some unpatched stuff running on a user's own hardware

clever mortar
#

Yeah, managing any form of exposed service is not a thing to be done lightly. Managing your own spam relay service mail server doubly so.

brisk glen
#

yah...

rotund nest
#

but I don't see much of security risk to pointing the MX records of your custom domain to a reliable email provider .

#

but like @clever mortar said, it depends what you mean by "using a custom email domain"

past idol
#

to be frank I am thinking of a custom domain name registered at Njalla

#

and used in protonmail

clever mortar
#

Then it comes down to how secure (whatever that means for you) are they

past idol
#

I just try to sum up the main points. I mean if I use Protonmail's own options like pm.me or protonmail.com vs my domain at njalla

#

if I have a custom domain anyone who now it can track me

#

or at least tell that the registrar is njalla right?

#

but that is all

#

or not?

clever mortar
#

They can track your email address however you do it

past idol
#

I mean they cannot find out more right? the biggest concern is if someone hacks njalla

#

but then they could also hack protonmail

#

so it is the same almost

clever mortar
#

They're more likely to have hacked you already πŸ˜‰

past idol

by the way can Njalla read my mails?

hushed basalt

@honest geode it's probably for lawyering reasons

steel urchin
#

like, let me sign something that says you can do an investigation on me at least, but i need my damn monies

hushed basalt
#

If you say no, then do terrorism stuff, it probably gives them extra ammunition

honest geode
#

@hushed basalt it's 30 questions like that. It makes no sense.

steel urchin
#

lol i don't think they need EXTRA ammunition's at that point

thick dragon
#

It's also to protect the banks from fraud. Limiting the amount that can be transferred and placing extra road blocks means they're less likely to get stung if someone gets access to your account.

steel urchin
#

also who says yes to that?

hushed basalt
#

Like I said, they don't expect you to say Yes, but it probably gives them a super easy cheap route to do what they want

#

Rather than those annoying human rights conventions,

#

Plus, you know, beaurocrats make these things

steel urchin
#

lol yeah

hushed basalt
#

In Australia I don't think you're allowed to use cash over $10K

they had to get 2 other banks to give them my money... it was so badass walking out with 500k in cash and 4 armed guards

forest edge
#

that should be same day delievery if the dist is that close lol

steel urchin
#

well it's there as of yesterday, didn't start there

hushed basalt
#

To be fair a bank should get prior notice of large withdrawals

#

Most banks carry SFA in actual cash here

#

I'm pretty sure they're fed by casinos

honest geode
#

Here they won't even let you withdraw large sums without very good reason

steel urchin
#

so the doorbell people (i call them that, but they're a full home security company) are making me sign a waiver that they won't service my address anymore 🀣 when i didn't fight that, he was like "well.. you don't care about that?" and i said "literally the doorbell is the only thing left tying me to your system, i've already moved all the devices off your crappy controller and onto my own setup"... and he was just like "damn... so... ok... i guess I'll show up and give you a check then"

forest edge
#

lol

honest geode
#

And if the amount you want in cash is a lot, then they require proof of what you spend it on... "anti terror" they say..

steel urchin
#

and now this contractor from the other day claims he's making a mechanical lien on me and a body injury lawsuit (when i didn't even touch him, my realtor did)... this should be fun

he's probably upset a 60yo man pushed him out of the house 🀣

hushed basalt

Not that bank interests are that great, but need the liquid cash for a house deposit

forest edge
#

they make money off your money, i'll be damn if they cap that to where they continue to make money but you don't lol

#

how many points did you get? barrels are 100 points each

last dirge
#

and then the one in the lane smashes into your side mirror and then the glass comes out but is still attached by the photochromic wires

#

so it whips around into your door and door glass

#

so I get to try to file a claim with the DOT for that shit

scenic radish
#

yikes. sounds like a claim with your state's DOT

#

yep

steel urchin
#

damn, glad you're safe though

#

that must have been a wild few seconds

last dirge
#

wanna see the video?

steel urchin
#

sure if you don't mind reliving it

scenic radish
#

yeah, what codex said

steel urchin
#

i know in my serious accident the tesla had a dash cam, and watching it makes my heart stop for a second

scenic radish
#

yeah it's never fun reliving it

steel urchin
#

it's definitely accounted for some depression and anxiety in my life

#

that was a very stressful $1MM lawsuit

last dirge
#

I gotta throw them in Resolve and render it

#

it'll be a while

thick dragon
#

My home internet is disappointingly unreliable. It's not that disconnections happen for a long time, but they do happen at regular times for short periods. Makes trying to sneak some work on HA in while at work very annoying.

last dirge
#

I haven't used this program in so long

#

looks like it's just gonna fail

#

awesome

steel urchin
#

handbrake is pretty straightforward with decent presets

last dirge
#

yeah but I have to composite the videos

steel urchin
#

ah...

last dirge
#

anybody got a good KVM software program they use?

valid halo
#

I remember my first car accident

steel urchin
#

heh i was asking that yesterday and was told shit like esxi

valid halo
#

It seemed pretty chill at the time for me.

#

My sister took it hard

last dirge
#

NICE

steel urchin
#

err, not yesterday, but the other day

last dirge
#

I guess I could just do logmein

#

is it still free?

thick dragon
#

I've never been in a car accident, but I've had a very near miss. Trying to overtake a car pulling a boat on a rainy day. Had to slam on the brakes and slide back in behind the car + boat or it would have been a head-on collission. Got the adrenaline shakes something bad after that for about 2 hours.

steel urchin
#

i was using qemu and virtmanager last, but i had to stop because i didn't want to take my own vm's down in a type1 hypervisor (which is doing what i need) to test it out too long

thick dragon
#

Still get butterflies every time I have to pass someone now.

steel urchin
#

yeah the trauma is pretty wild after an experience like that

last dirge
#

if remote desktop worked on windows 7 I'd just use that

forest edge
#

I've been in a few over the years.. it's meh now lol

steel urchin
#

i remember 2 years ago we were heading back home, and a giant accident had just happened but it was also pouring rain and visibility was low... A lady was trying to run across the highway (presumably to get off the road) and we ended up hitting her with my side mirror as I swerved out of the way.... that fucked me up pretty good

forest edge
#

car accidents is meh, motorcycle accidents is still a rush

#

that sucks

last dirge
#

oh shit, I guess they pushed a patch that will let it do it

steel urchin
#

i'm still stick on:

windows 7

🀣

forest edge
#

alot of people still prefer it

steel urchin
#

EoL's tomorrow

valid halo
#

My whole temp job

#

was just moving people from win 7 to win 10

steel urchin
#

holy shit... something like 33% are using win7 still

valid halo
#

The fun part was after 5 emails and no response. We just disabled everyone's computer who wasn't on win 10 in early december

#

They'd had since august to schedule/take care of it.

wet pilot
#

lol

valid halo
#

Now after that. Oh we got a ton of emails from people

#

a surge

wet pilot
#

funny how that works

last dirge
#

had to move to my big boy computer πŸ™‚

valid halo
#

is it the size of a small car?

last dirge
#

no

#

it's just almost a decade newer than my laptop

#

no biggie

forest edge
#

@steel urchin lol told ya

steel urchin
#

told me what

forest edge
#

was the same for ME when vista came out ect

steel urchin
#

oh, right

forest edge
#

that people still hold on to win 7 lol

ocean mirage
#

XP held on for ages

steel urchin
#

context switching can be a bitch lol

forest edge
#

yea XP

steel urchin
#

xp was the last good OS with any telecom in it is mostly why

#

faxes and answering machines

#

until VOIP stabilized for consumers and small businesses

ocean mirage
#

I mean, you think that has a big effect on the average person?

last dirge
#

have you looked at the specs of what's still running in China?

steel urchin
#

i had about 50+ clients myself that kept them on xp specifically for that

#

they all had their own home-rolled automation systems... it was surprisingly big at the time... i can't remember the software

forest edge
#

I think some companies still run backend shit like on server 2003 ect lol

steel urchin
#

i have a feeling china is it's own planet that crashed into the earth

forest edge
#

need to figure out a way to turn my scaled down wind turbine yard decoration into a working wind generator to power a pi zero lol

#

well to recharge a battery would be more accurate

quick roost
#

Are there any tuya plugs left in the market that still work w/ tuya-convert

last dirge
#

this is a pain in the ass

#

the files the car recorded don't line up

proper swift
#

wind turbines are typically awful, unless you live in a particularly good zone

#

in theory, if you have a decent night wind, you could maybe supplement a solar charger and get the zero to last 24hrs, on good days.. πŸ™‚

forest edge
#

there's a good run between my house and the neighbors where it's like a corridor that faces the perfect angle between south and east and it always gets a decent rush of wind through it even on calm days (it's weird)

#

so I bought one of those wind things cause it just seemed perfect for the location lol

proper swift
#

I have the same effect at my house, they claim turbines need a pretty decent clip to produce tho.. not sure if it just means "economically"

forest edge
#

but those scaled yard decorations don't come with like the pump arms ect like the real version, it's just a blades mounted on a spindle so there would be some work to get something going lol

#

I would think it fall down to just gearing

#

and whatever you used to generate the elctricity

proper swift
#

right.. I think the main issue is it's sporadic, so much so that it's difficult to capture. like the charging circuit would outpace your gains

#

at least in small scale

forest edge
#

yea

proper swift
#

take a look on thingiverse at the various printed setups.. most of them can't run squat. many of them are really heavily documented though, so that might help you.

forest edge
#

I was hoping that unlike solar, it would still spin during the night to offset

#

if they can power small led strips from the store ect

#

course those are like AA lol

hushed basalt
#

hmm I need a good project to learn JS on

#

then eventually react/node

forest edge
#

the frontend of FORBIDDEN_TOPIC is js lol

hushed basalt

Yeah but that's an existing app,

I should contrib to that though

There’s a new eve energy as well? God dam, this is the year of all of my wall plugs

hushed basalt

so widdee

#

I guess you muricans like your vertical orientation outlets?

wet pilot
#

Typically

hushed basalt
#

Very rare here,

#

Everything is horizontal here

#

So width is a killer

wet pilot
#

Dual outlet

#

Sometimes they rotate them 90 degrees but usually vertical

#

And the same boxes for switches and outlets

hushed basalt
#

Yeah always side by side here. With switched outlets

#

At least we have 240v single phase πŸ˜‰
