it can still probe your network

๐Ÿ˜›

clever mortar
#

So can the little green men

steel urchin
#

i'll check it out again when i can.. dealing with more drama today

brisk glen
#

I have some old configs I need to clean up

#

and pointless group removed

clear ferry
#

Yeah, I don't care what it does inside my network

#

I thought you meant it reached the internet by piggybacking on another device over L2

brisk glen
#

oh no

clear ferry
#

Hence my confusion

brisk glen
#

I just like to fully isolate chinese shit

clear ferry
#

That is just... Paranoid Android ๐Ÿ˜›

#

But then again, I love isolating those pesky American devices

brisk glen
#

I isolate all IoT

clever mortar
#

I like to isolate each device in a VLAN all of its own, just to be sure

brisk glen
#

I kinda do that now

wet pilot
#

ALL THE VLANS

clear ferry
#

Did you remember to put the tinfoil on all the antennas too @clever mortar ?

clever mortar
#

I cut the traces on the boards, and then wired them to the microwave

#

Just to be sure

clear ferry
clever mortar
#

There's been some odd smells ever since...

wet pilot
#

heh

brisk glen
clear ferry
#

That is just borderline perverted

#

And paranoid

brisk glen
#

everything works ๐Ÿ˜›

#

kinda do not want my printer talking to my camera or lights

clear ferry
#

I'll stick with tinks philosophy rather JodieScronch

brisk glen
#

I need a faster router

clear ferry
#

Go for something proper like pfsense then ๐Ÿ˜

brisk glen
#

UDMp ๐Ÿ˜„

clear ferry
#

None of those ubiquity or unifi shits ๐Ÿคข

brisk glen
#

lol

#

at least my shits have protected management frames for wireless

clear ferry
#

Nice, a possible client breaking protocol that I will probably never need ๐Ÿ˜›

brisk glen
#

good thing I can allow a mix of both and allow old clients on

scenic radish
#

welp for the very first time i can't SSH to my pi. connection times out. doesn't respond to pings. has a static IP outside the router DHCP pool. anyone have any other suggestions before i hard reboot?

brisk glen
#

get a better power supply

scenic radish
#

2.5A supply

#

pi 3B+

wet pilot
#

bounce it

clever mortar
#

It's ok, it's probably a dead SD card

scenic radish
#

SSD ๐Ÿ˜›

#

hopefully that hasn't died after 8 months...

#

alright i'm gonna pull power ๐Ÿคข ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

clear ferry

Pi ๐Ÿคข

smoky wyvern
#

sooooo i need automation ideas, glad to hear some of yours or ideas

steel urchin
#

i still have no clue what happened to my setup last night.. it just completely melted in front of me over hours, and somehow worked itself out to some extent.. still gonna start over though

#

lol i've been having a hard time as well Lucasss

clever mortar
#

Home Assistant is a banned topic in this channel ๐Ÿ˜‰

brisk glen
#

you could start with cooking food

smoky wyvern
#

owhh whoops

steel urchin
#

||Tediore|| is a banned topic

brisk glen
#

automate that

smoky wyvern
#

hmm

brisk glen
#

and before alexa with a random food order from ubereats

#

hey alexa, im hungry

smoky wyvern
#

haha sounds like a fun thing

proper swift
#

my wife got an instant pot with wifi. so.. once she hooks it up, I might have to accidentally hack it.

steel urchin
#

lol... i never understood connected counter appliances

#

"i can control my toaster from my phone! damn... still burnt"

proper swift
#

there is a rule in my house, if there is a wifi/serial port/usb option, we get that one, because hack

steel urchin
#

lol

#

i mean, that's a good rule

brisk glen
#

I think they are good only to send notifications that I am done

steel urchin
#

but i don't even use the basic timer on my coffee pot

brisk glen
#

but soo is a smart outlet with power draw monitoring.....

proper swift
#

in theory I think you can tell it how long to cook and what temp or something too.. that part seems less useful

#

actually, I could see use in "turn on at X time and cook for X hours"

brisk glen
#

you still have to go in the dam kitchen

hushed basalt
#

Temp is useful

steel urchin
proper swift
#

dunno.. when she hooks it up I guess I will se what it exposes

smoky wyvern
#

welll its handy to know when ur wife is done with cooking so u can come and eat it

steel urchin
#

Lol she usually tells me

brisk glen
#

she does not say, HONNEY, IM DONE!

#

?

smoky wyvern
#

haha she uses google broadcast

brisk glen
#

or @#$#@, get your ass in here

hushed basalt
#

WILBURRRRR, I'M HUNGRRY

#

I'd love a smart oven, but not just a normal oven that can be controlled remotely

#

I want an oven with PID inverter thermostats and such

#

Same with the fridge. Temperature fluxates like crazy because simple thermostats and single speed motors are cheap for manufacturers

steel urchin
scenic radish
#

well pulling power and rebooting fixed the issue. strange.

#

nothing in lost+found so ๐ŸŽ‰

#

fsck on reboot didn't even take long

worthy sparrow
steel urchin
#

i hate when people take photos of a screen

#

but if you're going to ask for help, use a screenshot

red radish
#

PITA because I dont have home internet

#

Deleted so it doesnt take up room, eill move to HA channel

#

Well, when that chan dies down a bit

scenic radish
#

Alright I finally ordered an edgerouter x. I've outgrown the Google WiFi

#

Oh and it's started to piss me off with a stupid issue that popped up again

brisk glen
#

No @scenic radish no... the edge router x only has half a Gbit routing backbone

#

Get the lite

scenic radish
#

Out of my price range unfortunately

brisk glen
#

:/

scenic radish
#

Plus I know that whatever I get it's ultimately gonna be the wrong one to someone anyway ๐Ÿ˜›

brisk glen
#

If you got the lite, that would have been fine

#

The X can only route Gbit at half duplex

scenic radish
#

I only have 200 down anyway

steel urchin
#

i mean i say get whatever you can flash tomato on...

#

no point in going full enterprise

brisk glen
#

Yah, but vlans...

steel urchin
#

... are unnecessary, and also supported on tomato

scenic radish
#

Ehh I got the edgerouter x for $28 after discount/gift card

steel urchin
#

you're the only sadist masochist here man ๐Ÿคฃ

#

i always get those mixed up

brisk glen
#

Oh nice

steel urchin
#

i was reading something about those the other day ... something about port forwarding being a pain?

brisk glen
#

Nope

steel urchin
#

i didn't read much into it as it didn't apply to me

scenic radish
#

Oh ffs. Forget it, I'll just live without internet access

steel urchin
#

i mean i just have a netgear ac1700... suites my needs

brisk glen
#

Port forwarding is easy on the edge router series

scenic radish
#

I just want something with more functionality than the Google WiFi and a proper router interface. You can't even see what devices are connected to your network without the "cloud services" enabled...

clear ferry
#

@steel urchin full enterprise? Those babies? Don't wind me up ๐Ÿ˜›

scenic radish
#

So I'll just use the Google WiFi as an AP

steel urchin
#

i wasn't referring to anything specific

clear ferry
#

I have a IRF cluster in my core PedoBearD

brisk glen
#

@scenic radish then you should be happy with it

steel urchin
#

dude just wants to watch porn lol

scenic radish
#

Of course, I need to break out my old Windows laptop to do the initial setup since I don't have an Ethernet adapter for my Chromebook lol

steel urchin
clear ferry
#

@scenic radish noob ๐Ÿ˜›

brisk glen
#

Some one went a litte too google happy and is having regrets

scenic radish
#

Ehh. I like my Google stuff, just not the router anymore

brisk glen
#

Key word, soon anymore

scenic radish
#

The Chromebook has a Debian VM built in and I can run VSCode on it with no issues so I'm happy

#

And it has a proper terminal of course

brisk glen
#

... you cheated for Linux lol

scenic radish
#

I'm fact, installing Debian packages works transparently. The programs appear in the launcher in ChromeOS so it's not a dual-boot situation

#

Hey, whatever man. You don't need to like it lol

brisk glen
#

Lol

steel urchin
#

your money, your prerogative

#

insert britney spears here

scenic radish
#

I do most of my Linux stuff on my pi anyway. As far as linux on the Chromebook I really just use the terminal to SSH to the pi

steel urchin
#

ooh better yet

#

bobby brown

#

how much is a chromebook?

#

my garage laptop needs a replacement

scenic radish
#

Varies widely. Got mine for $400. 15" 1920x1080 IPS touchscreen with numeric keypad and backlit keyboard, Pentium gold (lower binned i3), 4GB RAM

steel urchin
#

i got this hp omen 17 (i7-8750, nvidia 1070, 32gb ram, and 1tb ssd) for $350... should have gotten 2

#

oh hell...

scenic radish
#

There are like $150 ones too lol

steel urchin
scenic radish
#

That's a steal

steel urchin
#

i have a IFTTT scanning a bunch of RSS for deals

scenic radish
#

How tf did you get that for $350

steel urchin
#

my discord is littered with amazing deals ๐Ÿ˜›

scenic radish
#

Obviously fell off the back of a truck and someone found it and sold it lol

steel urchin
#

i walked into walmart, said "I'll take that please", they rang it up, i paid, and walked out

#

no, fully legally tendered transaction

#

it was just on clearance

#

walmart does that a bunch, actually

scenic radish
#

I do rather enjoy the 12 hour battery life

steel urchin
#

stupidly drops things to like 15-25% of their msrp

#

just to clear inventory

scenic radish
#

I'll have to keep an eye out

steel urchin
#

best buy does that a lot for the shuccable wd easystores

#

i got 16tb (2x 8tb) for $120 a few months ago

scenic radish
#

Noice

steel urchin
#

i like to find deals man... i'm a cheap bastard and i'm ok with that

#

unless it's food

#

you know, the stuff that eventually goes down the toilet ๐Ÿคฃ

#

in fact, i need to take these ribeyes out to get to room temp

#

a lil surf n turf tonight

hushed basalt
#

In soviet Australia, deals get you

#

We're lucky when stores put something 20% off. Especially tech

steel urchin
#

yeah, that's what you get for being convicts

hushed basalt
#

A lot of places will rather dispose of their surplus or liquidate it in another market rather than reduce the price

#

Can't let us get too comfortable with the idea of 50% off :D

valid halo
#

as low as 150

#

oh shoot

hushed basalt
#

I paid $2700 for my laptop, i7 256gb 16gb with no gpu

valid halo
#

I forgot to scroll down to see where the convversation went

#

retreats into the shadows

steel urchin
#

i mean most stuff in Australia is more expensive anyway, right?

hushed basalt
#

Yeah

#

Higher base price, less competition, less discounts,

#

Adds up to a much higher total cost

#

Plus our housing prices are completely out of wack

#

And high real estate prices make everything more expensive

steel urchin
#

yeah... crazy

#

and i'm certain the fires aren't helping anything

hushed basalt
#

Median income is about $45-50k while houses can go from $450k - $1500k

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge you around ?

last dirge
#

on and off

#

what's up?

tidal bronze
#

I don't know if I asked you earlier, did you change watering times when you went mp rotator?

last dirge
#

I got that conformal coating you suggested

#

was getting all geared up to take stuff apart and get it on there

#

then it started raining ๐Ÿ™‚

tidal bronze
#

Yikes

last dirge
#

nah, I didn't

#

I should but because my soil isn't where it needs to be I get a LOT of runoff

#

so I only run for 2-3 minutes at a time staggered

tidal bronze
#

Got it

#

Going to change about 72 heads so doing all the research I can before

#

๐Ÿ˜€

#

What type of soil ?

steel urchin
#

gonna till it all?

tidal bronze
#

No just heads

steel urchin
#

err sorry, meant Brian

#

but damn, 72 heads is a bunch

tidal bronze
#

These are the times I blow a gasket with my gardeners, been checking each body and these guys have replaced with Toro, hunter and rain bird. Livid.

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze red clay

tidal bronze
#

Oh

wet pilot
#

have that same problem here

last dirge
#

bodies don't really matter

#

for pop-ups

tidal bronze
#

It does

#

Toro is Male thread

last dirge
#

Hunter and Rain Bird have interchangeable nozzles

#

not sure about Toro

tidal bronze
#

Actually the rest takes female heads.

#

These guys use anything from the back of the truck when they damage something. Oh well.

last dirge
#

you should be able to swap guts between brands

wet pilot
#

i haven't used my system since moving in because there's a leak in the valve box

last dirge
#

unscrew the top, pull the old guts out

tidal bronze
#

You mean the body ? Some are not easy to take out

last dirge
#

no, not the body

rain swift
#

2 parter, does anyone use google home with system that shall not be named and what are the pros and cons over amazon echos?

Is anyone using a smart watch with system that shall not be named? Which one and what is your experience?

tidal bronze
#

But MP offered both M/F

last dirge
#

you can unscrew the top and the spring and such come out

wet pilot
rain swift
#

ah, I didn't think about that area

#

duh

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge body inner height is different in toto ๐Ÿคฃ

last dirge
#

awesome

#

last season I replaced about 10 or so bodies with Rain Bird Seal-a-matics

#

I was getting downhill siphon after turn off

tidal bronze
last dirge
#

I'm aware ๐Ÿ™‚

#

I can't get the radius in far enough to where it won't just be pissing all over the sidewalk

tidal bronze
#

That's for Toro body

#

What model do you run ?

rain swift
#

what about smart watches?

tidal bronze
#

Been using galaxy watch for some years. Great.

rain swift
#

what kind stuff do you do with HA on it?

#

can you make it vibrate with an automation

#

gah, maybe we should move to the HA section, I dunno lol

tidal bronze
#

Interactive html5 to delay garage closing etc straight from the watch.

rain swift
#

noice

#

are HTML5 notifications interactive in general?

#

could be something fun to play with.

#

looks like you can

steel urchin
#

i want a watch so bad, but i hate things on my wrist

#

html5 notifications in general kinda stink imo.... i haven't ever had much fun/luck with them

rain swift
#

Same boat

#

I never wear a watch, I don't wear jewelry in general.

#

bought one a while back to test out wearing one again but made the mistake of getting a big heavy one lol

tidal bronze
#

Once you get used to wrist notifications / interactions hard to go back. I hated wearing watches as well but now a must.

rain swift
#

last time I looked into it I was on domoticz and there was nothing lol that's why I was wondering what kind of integration we have now.

modest sentinel
#

do we have any saltwater reef keepers in here? I'm upgrading to a much larger tank and looking for automation ideas. Monitors for ph/salinity/etc, other things to automate, etc

last dirge
#

@dull chasm has fish, I don't know salt/fresh

#

@modest sentinel I do know he's got lights and stuff automated; his tank has its own hass instance

modest sentinel
#

oh, nice... curious what my options are for sensors and such

#

I know you can buy wifi lights so there might be integrations for those

#

looks like these work with HA https://www.seneye.com/devices

#

there's so much cool stuff out there ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

amber bramble
#

got my roborock today

#

currently trying to firewall it off from the rest of my LAN so it can't spy on me ๐Ÿคฃ

rain swift
#

lmao

#

why not firewall it off from the internet?

#

then if it spies, it can't actually send it any place.

amber bramble
#

needs cloud access :/

#

i've got a separate vlan that doesn't get internet access

#

blah. i can't figure out why this firewall rule won't work

rain swift
#

I run OPENBSD

hushed basalt
#

@tidal bronze have you thought about moisture sensors

tidal bronze
#

That's the plan

hushed basalt
#

Therefore using in zones where needed rather than worrying about water times

#

Apparently the standard moisture sensors are crap though

tidal bronze
hushed basalt

Interesting

Aawww yeah

Make it drizzle, $1 bills y'all

modest sentinel

woo, just ordered a few more z-wave switches to add to the stack that's getting installed on tuesday

rain swift
#

Eventually I want to get into making my own temp/humidity and maybe PIR sensors

modest sentinel
#

i ordered one, ships march

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze how much are those sensors? Replacing them when they git hit by the mower could get pricey ๐Ÿ™‚

tidal bronze
#

54 a sensor. @modest sentinel looks interesting but I have a state irrigation weather station right next to me for free ๐Ÿ˜€

modest sentinel
#

ahh that's handy

#

I just wanted this for fun, I'm not really sure why I got it if I'm being honest. I guess I just want to look at data

tidal bronze
#

Story of our lives. "Just to look at data" ๐Ÿ˜„ Although with time I am trying to remove 90% "data", cool factor with displaying everything under the sun in the UI gets old pretty quick.

rain swift

How much is it?

#

Ah

#

Might get one

proper swift

tempest looks pretty cool

amber bramble

ok this roborock vacuum owns

@brisk glen @steel urchin one thing i forgot to mention earlier that i like about my chromebook is that i can run chrome OS, linux, and android apps

brisk glen
#

@scenic radish pinebookpro

steel urchin
#

that's cool

#

i don't have a need for chromeOS, but android apps are always nice to be able to run

scenic radish
#

the pinebook looks cool, but i need a numeric keypad

steel urchin
#

@amber bramble nice! Glad my deal finding helps others ๐Ÿ™‚

scenic radish
#

and i can't deal with anything under a 15.6" display

wet pilot
#

spoiled

#

i'm cool with 13" and 1080p

brisk glen
#

...

#

needs to connect to external monitor for 27"

scenic radish
#

lol

wet pilot
#

my current chromebook is 11" and <1080p

steel urchin
#

i used to do 13" cuz of weight, but now i need 15.6+", and prefer 17"

wet pilot
#

and...trash

steel urchin

but yeah my desktop is 3x 24"

wet pilot
#

my desktop is 2x 23 1x 40

#

for "reasons"

steel urchin
#

one of my favorite laptops was the lenovo yoga

so thin, so light, convertable

scenic radish

ah yeah that one was cool

ever get your thing fixed codex?

steel urchin

what "thing" exactly? i have a lot of bs going on lol

forest edge

your FORBIDDEN_TOPIC

steel urchin

ah no... I'm actually am currently cleaning up configs, committing and about to start over

scenic radish
#

reeeeeee

forest edge
#

oh no the deadly redo

#

get a pi, hassio and you'd be back up from a fresh in like 15 minutes if that lol

brisk glen
#

go docker and be up in 4

#

:>

steel urchin
#

i don't think it'll take me any time really to get back up and running... i just have to readd all the zwave stuff

#

and then rename things cuz i hate the default names

#

oh, and i have to add some xml to the zwave config until the OZW1.6 comes out, but i have it in a notes file so it's just copy pasta

#

and i am running docker

#

i have a vodka drink atm, so things should start getting fun

wet pilot
#

gotta get to the peak of the balmer curve

steel urchin
#

yeah but high BAC usually isn't my goto

i'd rather smoke than drink

#

i tend to have my faculties about me, and don't flip out over an HA meltdown ๐Ÿคฃ

#

i about lost my damn mind last night lol

forest edge
#

lol

steel urchin
#

i'm so damn full

narrow marten
#

Ok, appdaemon is officially cool... I just finished the readme, and starting the tutorials... just had to comment on it...

scenic radish
#

no

#

jk obvi

#

once i learn python more i'm gonna have to look into that

narrow marten
#

Iโ€™m teaching my self now...

steel urchin
#

yeah i was kinda looking at the api, not really my style for something that's intended to grow

#

kinda breaks SOLID principles

#

i think the states and is_state_attr jinja stuff is better

#

but, i can imagine loops and what not being a LOT better in appdaemon

narrow marten
#

Dumb question... a callback is a timed instruction?

steel urchin
#

mmm... it will depend on the scope of the implementation really

narrow marten
#

Iโ€™m following what it does from context, just looking for good definition

steel urchin
#

in the case of automation, something will trigger it.. be it time, sunset, detection of a device, button push, etc...

#

the example shows something like:

        self.listen_state(self.motion, "binary_sensor.drive", new="on")
#

so it's listening to the binary sensor for an attribute change

#

and calls self.motion (the callback)

#

i'm not sure this is a welcomed conversation here ๐Ÿ˜› but i don't know where it would go

#

oh, has it's own discord... (personally i don't care, i like nerd talking)

narrow marten
#

Thank you for the info, Iโ€™m still not grasping it.. more reading to do...

#

And I like nerd talking too!

steel urchin
#

mmm... it's a pretty common pattern in languages to have a callback, do you have experience in any languages?

wet pilot
#

@narrow marten โค๏ธ appdaemon

steel urchin
#

that's a decent abstract definition

narrow marten
#

Lol, 25 years ago, FORTRAN and c++

wet pilot
#

i have a bunch of things there

steel urchin
#

haha ok, no problem, a bit dated and probably long forgotten

#

in c++ you'd likely pass a pointer as a reference

narrow marten
#

Yes, if you donโ€™t use it, you lose it

steel urchin
#

to a function

forest edge
#

NERD TALK ALERT!

steel urchin
#

in modern languages functions are first class citizens

#

so they are literal objects that can be passed as parameters

wet pilot
#

its fun to abuse that

steel urchin
#

well in recent times we've gone to promisary execution

#

and with async/await making it's way through various tech we're getting even more fun stuff

wet pilot
#

that's part of the JS hacks to make it pretend to be object oriented

brisk glen
#

I want to... automate in swift

#

๐Ÿ˜’

narrow marten
#

The terminology has changed so much...

steel urchin
#

there's no pretend, js is object oriented

#

just not as complete as typescript is

#

typescript is a superset of js

wet pilot
#

still a hack

steel urchin
#

mmm no

forest edge
#

typsescript looks cool

steel urchin
#

c#, java, js, and more have async/await

forest edge
#

anything to prevent js grey hairs is awesome

hushed basalt
#

I don't mind js

steel urchin
#

i love me some js

narrow marten
#

Js?

steel urchin
#

javascript

forest edge
#

js ๐Ÿคข

hushed basalt
#

People trend to use it fundamentally different to python from what I see

steel urchin
#

no u

modest sentinel
#

can anyone suggest a good outdoor safe (lots of rain) open/close sensor?

narrow marten
#

Lol, ok,... derp

wet pilot
#

js is largely front end

steel urchin
#

mmmm python devs love to break best practices is probably why you see that ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

python is the new perl

rain swift
#

looks like dash buttons are going away, booo.

steel urchin
#

"hey look, i made an entire facebook in 1 line"

wet pilot
#

some people try to make it full stack but that's kinda dumb

#

eh, while the interpreter will accept it, that's considered bad form

steel urchin
#

@wet pilot i like you, but i have to tell you that your perspective is not correct

#

i do trillions of dollars of business a month using javascript

#

full stack

forest edge
#

cause noone else wants too lol

steel urchin
#

no, because they're clammoring for it hardcore

modest sentinel
#

js is everything and everywhere now, like it or hate it

hushed basalt
#

I'd reach for javascript if I was doing full stack

wet pilot
#

eh, i'm just salty because the people who brought js into our company are really bad

hushed basalt
#

It's incredibly popular, which has a lot of values

steel urchin
#

mellanox won't let us use anything but c and js

wet pilot
#

and then after they forced the decisions they left

#

so a company that's a lamp stack is being forced to deal with JS

steel urchin
#

i mean, that can be true with any tech stack

hushed basalt
#

Popularity is important

wet pilot
#

like they implemented our GraphQL api in JS when the backend is already python. it should have been done there

hushed basalt
#

More devs to choose from, more resources, more active packages and tooling

#

i am not a proponent of "let's do this piece in <x> technology because we want to make a change"

#

either rebuild from scratch, or keep goign on the train you already are on

hushed basalt
#

I do wish someone would make a batteries included serverless framework though

wet pilot
#

even worse, they didn't just rewrite it, they pointed the GraphQL at the existing php api (which is also trash)

steel urchin
#

it sounds like a great idea at first, and clever techniques are attempted to make ecosystems cohesive, but it compounds complexity and opinionated implementations super quick

#

yeah that sounds like ๐Ÿ’ฉ

hushed basalt
#

Some people said I should learn Django but I don't think it's the best career move

narrow marten
#

Full stack? Sorry guys just trying to follow the convo

wet pilot
#

front end + back end

steel urchin
#

they do @hushed basalt .. lambdas

forest edge
#

hey now leave php out of it..

steel urchin
#

django is all but dead imo

wet pilot
#

still hanging on, but flask is stealing the thunder

hushed basalt
#

But lamdbas is just piecing together functions with events driven stuff etc

steel urchin
#

php has been somehow coasting on embers in the fire

forest edge
#

php will nevver die!

steel urchin
#

that's what a serverless framework looks like telco ๐Ÿ˜›

hushed basalt
#

There's no "here's a framework you can go from zero to ๐Ÿ’ฏ"

steel urchin
#

make one!

#

i'm personally against opinionated frameworks

#

i'm code over config usually (which is ironic in my stance with HA thus far)

hushed basalt
#

Yeah I understand, but all sls frameworks are geared to being microservice, rather than inherently trying to take advantage of the cost and scalability advantages first

#

But you need to start somewhere

#

Even if you hack it apart later

rain swift
#

trillions of dollars? why are you even here? i'd be on my yaht.

hushed basalt
#

You can't learn development on a microservice architecture

steel urchin
#

i'm on a lengthy sabbatical

wet pilot
#

lol just becase the software clears that doesn't mean he gets anywhere near that

steel urchin
#

i'm here cuz the nerds here are pretty rad

#

and i don't make trillions lol

#

my company does

modest sentinel
#

looks like we got us a trillionaire

steel urchin
#

we're waiting for mellanox to buy us since we pretty much build all their hardware and software

rain swift
#

you should start your own company. ๐Ÿ˜„

steel urchin
#

i'm hoping to retire after this ๐Ÿ™‚

wet pilot
#

lol that's how you get negative income

amber bramble
#

tomorrow's task: root roborock, install valetudo, integrate with HA

steel urchin
#

live 6mo in different countries

narrow marten
#

Itโ€™s nice, I did 4 years ago

steel urchin
#

@amber bramble dude, lemme know how it goes, i want to do that

modest sentinel
#

i need a new robo vac, one that can empty itself and keep going. but there's only like one model out there and it's way overpriced

amber bramble
#

my mind is still blown at how well it got around my house

#

especially since our kids had toys all over the place

steel urchin
#

if you want a "reasonably" priced one, the shark iq self evac is the way to go

narrow marten
#

I agree, Iโ€™m upgrading to the shark this year..

steel urchin
#

but it's not as "smart" as other smart vacs.. nav isn't fantastic, and it doesn' thave a bin sensor to know when it's full.. it just goes back after distance traveled

rain swift
#

i've got an s6 in my amazon automation wish list

steel urchin
#

if you want best nav for decent price, roborock is the goto

modest sentinel
#

i have the botvac d80 but it's been sitting in the box unused for months

steel urchin
#

dude, use it! my robovac was the best purchase i've made in my life i'm pretty sure

narrow marten
#

With 4 dogs, mine runs everyday

rain swift
#

6 fiddy is a lot of money for a vaccum though

steel urchin
#

i posted a deal on the s5 the other day

modest sentinel
#

i havent unboxed it since moving because I feel like my new space is too big for it

#

and it'll just get part of it

amber bramble
#

the roborock swept and mapped out the entirety of my house that i could access (we closed the doors to a few rooms since the kids were in bed) on the first run

steel urchin
#

i have some IFTTT services scanning for deals on all kinds of stuff, robovacs being one... if i see somethin i post it here

modest sentinel
#

plus it's sooo slow

#

takes forever to do a job a human could do in 5 mins

forest edge
#

@steel urchin lmao wut

steel urchin
#

wut wut

amber bramble
#

and when it declared that it was done cleaning it made the trip from our master bathroom (farthest place from its dock it could go) and made the trip back to its dock without bumping into a single thing

steel urchin
#

yep, best nav in the industry imo

forest edge
#

you dedicated IFFTT to scanning for robovacs?

steel urchin
#

deebot is a LIL better, but not much

modest sentinel
#

i have hardwood floors, i should get one of those mopping ones

steel urchin
#

no no, the public free service

forest edge
#

I know, but why?

amber bramble
#

it also did surprisingly good at getting between the chair legs under the dining room table

forest edge
#

lol

modest sentinel
#

@forest edge to scanning for deals he said

steel urchin
#

because it took me like 10 seconds to do, and it works? it posts to my discord

forest edge
#

sorry, just seems excessive

modest sentinel
#

no different than setting up an email alert on slickdeals, just a bit more work

forest edge
#

already looking to ditch dusty?

steel urchin
#

that's how we met ๐Ÿคฃ

#

well it's for my entire community, not just me

forest edge
#

I couldn't keep up with all that lol

steel urchin
#

i don't keep up with anything really... i supply an rss feed, and a search term, post a webhook url, and i'm done

#

if someone is looking for something, they just go into the channel and look for whatever they want

#

i should rename the webhook though, it hasn't been a holiday sale bot in over a year ๐Ÿคฃ

modest sentinel
#

why does discord sometimes not let me kill the preview ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

scenic radish
#

wrap it in < >

#

the link i mean

modest sentinel
#

ah, good to know

scenic radish

also, don't do this to me.

awwww

scenic radish

forest edge

๐Ÿ˜ฆ

scenic radish

that i don't need

steel urchin
#

haha

scenic radish
#

but i do

modest sentinel
#

@scenic radish LED all the things!

steel urchin
#

/s/need/want

modest sentinel
#

i bought a 17' rgbw led strip and rewired it to fit that sylvania controller

scenic radish
#

i already have RGB lights in the living room and bedrooms

narrow marten
#

Lol, so whatโ€™s the best vac to run with HA

modest sentinel
#

and my entire underside of my desk is rgb now

#

and i built a massive ambient light out of a SDSS telescope plate

forest edge
#

only vac to use with HA is one that reports it's cords lol

steel urchin
#

i might be too old to understand the rgb strips everywhere

forest edge
#

then you can real time map that sucker and look at a card with a bunch of lines ol

scenic radish
#

it's RGBCCT??? sold

steel urchin
#

i feel like light is art, and i need it to be designed in a way that isn't intrusive

modest sentinel
#

@steel urchin i appreciate soft ambient lighting, and I like colors

steel urchin
#

trimming my whole house in rgb strips feels weird

modest sentinel
#

@scenic radish it's in a weird order but yeah

#

i had to cross over some of the connections

steel urchin
#

what's cct?

modest sentinel
#

softwhite daylight

steel urchin
#

addressable?

scenic radish
#

correlated color temp

steel urchin
#

ahh

scenic radish
#

"tunable white"

steel urchin
#

the 2700k type numbers

#

speaking of, we went from 3000k lights to 2700k, and that 300k makes a big difference

forest edge
#

CCT is normal light colors lol

steel urchin
#

i'm used to the 2700k, but i miss the old bulbs.. they just didn't dim for shit

rain swift
#

I love my smart bulbs, I stole the settings from the hue "concentrate" scene and that is what they are normally set at, I really love being able to do warm white in the mornings and before bed.

scenic radish
#

yep, 3000K is my preferred soft white

rain swift
#

I don't find I use color all that much, but I did just set up all the lights to blink green when the wife wants to get my attention when shes texting me or pulls up outside and I need to carry groceries in or something.

steel urchin
#

yeah i wanna do an alert light

forest edge
#

lol star trek red alert

#

need something to play the sound too

steel urchin
#

hmm.. that might be a valid use for the rgb strip

#

i was considering using one of the recessed lights, but i'd have to rewire all the cans so it would be detached from the other 6

forest edge
#

don't you wish they would make a switch that would control a bulbs color? lol

steel urchin
#

heh sorta

#

addressable bulbs

rain swift
#

I made them blink green because I wanna save red for alert/emergency type stuff.

#

the hue remote lets you map scenes to it.

#

not as cool as having a dial though

scenic radish
#

@modest sentinel i can't find a lumen rating for each 2-foot section. total wattage for the kit is 36W which, at 90 lm/W would translate to about 3200 lumens. any idea if this is accurate?

#

seems high for a 6-foot strip at this price range but not out of the realm of possibility

steel urchin
#

i need to make some kind of led lighting for the strams

scenic radish
#

strams?

steel urchin
#

streams

#

cuz no way i'm buying an elgato light

#

and i don't want like photography lighting that takes up like 4x4' footprint

scenic radish
#

ah

hushed basalt
#

I find 4000k best for fixed temp

steel urchin
hushed basalt
#

Not too "warm" for daytime and not too "cool" for night

steel urchin
#

or maybe exactly that ๐Ÿคฃ

#

i need to find access to a 3d printer

scenic radish
#

i find 4000K too cool at night personally

#

and 4000K dumb bulbs are hard to come by. i've only seen them online

#

hope it was ok to ping you with that question btw rappo

steel urchin
modest sentinel
#

@scenic radish i dont recall the exact specs, sorry... but it's on the high end of things (quality wise) dont let the discount fool you

#

and totally fine, I was just distracted with other things

scenic radish
#

good to know, thanks! i guess i could always return it if i'm not happy with it lol

#

ugh... i want it... but i don't even have a use in mind for it

modest sentinel
#

yeah, just buy via amazon and you're set haha

steel urchin
#

i'm getting super lazy in my older age

modest sentinel
#

dude... I bought one for my desk, then i needed one for my plate light project, and that sale happened so i bought three

#

i still have two in a box haha

scenic radish
#

actually better yet, i could return them directly to the walmart by me if i needed to

#

oh gosh lol

forest edge
#

wallyworld

scenic radish
#

i bought two ecosmart RGB bulb + remote kits when they were $5 at the home depot, still haven't connected the remotes lol

steel urchin
#

hmm 18watt seems kinda high for an led panel

forest edge
#

i thought you bought everything from ikea? lol

modest sentinel
steel urchin
#

ooh i like that

scenic radish
#

ooh nice

steel urchin
#

that actually gives me a cool idea

forest edge
#

was that used for BB target practice?

steel urchin
#

i like the holes in whatever that shield looking thing is

scenic radish
#

looks like 9mm. target practice?

#

๐Ÿ˜‰

forest edge
#

9mm? no lol

modest sentinel
#

@forest edge it's a plate from SDSS - sloan digital sky survey. Each hole had a fiber optic plug in it and corresponds to a galaxy or quasar in a tiny patch of sky

#

all plugged into a massive observatory

forest edge
#

ah thats cool

scenic radish
#

ooo neato

#

and yeah looks more like .22 lol

modest sentinel
hushed basalt
#

@scenic radish quality matters

forest edge
hushed basalt

All bulbs are not created equal. By a long shot

scenic radish
#

indeed

#

i've got a hole for you @forest edge

forest edge
#

hehe

hushed basalt
#

3000K is way too warm for the day

#

Natural light mixes with your bulb light and it's just ๐Ÿคข

scenic radish
#

oh for sure, i agree

scenic radish
#

lmao jontron

#

that's why i have different color temp settings based on time of day with philips hue

forest edge
#

flux or whatever that is

hushed basalt
#

Well I did say 4000 is best for "fixed" temp ;)

forest edge
#

isnt that what flux does, change the color temp based on time of day

steel urchin
#

near the end of the night yeah

forest edge
#

I thought it did it all day

scenic radish
#

@hushed basalt ah tru

modest sentinel
#

there's also the flux pc app

forest edge
#

or could do it all day rather

steel urchin
#

i think that's what they mean

modest sentinel
#

which i use because microsoft's built-in color adjuster sucks

scenic radish
#

but why would you have lights on during the day? ๐Ÿค”

hushed basalt
#

Because.. what?

forest edge
#

cause indoors is darker than out?

steel urchin
#

i don't like it changing on me, i couldn't get into flux.. felt like i was squinting by the end of the night

scenic radish

alright, i think i'm gonna buy that light strip to use as bias lighting behind my living room TV

modest sentinel

i round to the nearest 5

forest edge

modest sentinel

the 4k one has an hdmi switch built in so if you only have 3 hdmi devices you care about you dont need a second switch

steel urchin

so @amber bramble you verified the roborock is dead firewalled off?

cuz ATX was trying to convince me otherwise

these unicorn .com's go out of business all the time, they are stable until the Series A runs out, and then boom

i need good lights for my driveway, the shitty solar lights are all dim or dead, surprise

Not very techithal

modest sentinel

hey at least they got to series A!

most dont make it that far

scenic radish

just like best buy shutting down their insignia platform

proper swift

One time, I bought these little metal puck Solar lights from harbor freight. I got 6. that was 12 years ago. 1 Is still working. Its insane. The other 5 lasted 10 years.

modest sentinel

damn

hushed basalt

Must have been a good batch of batts

proper swift

they've just been sitting outside the whole time.. I haven't touched them. In Phoenix AZ.

modest sentinel

i'm looking for wired light because the driveway is pretty shady anyway

and there are outlets there

hushed basalt
#

Wired is definitely best long term

proper swift
#

yeah.. I mostly go wired. but yeah.. crazy luck with those

hushed basalt
#

Do once and let your great grand kids worry about fixing it

steel urchin
#

i saw some at harbor freight the other day for dirt cheap, almost got them... but i once got a pack at big lots and they were just so terrible it's kinda shied me away from non-wired lights

modest sentinel
#

something with zigbee/zwave built in would be nice

scenic radish
#

zigbee ftw

#

although z-wave would be better for outdoors due to range

steel urchin
#

but harbor freight is great about returns, so maybe i'll try it... plus the manager seems to have a crush on me or something so i usually batt my eyes and she gives me 20-30% off

hushed basalt
#

Maybe she's paying you off to go away

steel urchin
#

looooool

#

hey i'll still take it

modest sentinel
#

this is a mixed house lmao... zigbee bulbs, zwave wall switches, zigbee and zwave plugs

steel urchin
#

that's funny

hushed basalt
#

Like how idiots get promoted to where they can't do as much damage

proper swift
#

I'm mostly running insteon

scenic radish

most of my stuff is zigbee, but i do have the zcombo z-wave smoke alarm

steel urchin
#

i'm pure zwave atm... trying to keep it that way, but not sure

hushed basalt
#

Zwave is almost non existent in Australia afaik

forest edge
#

harbor freight is suppose to do that or she gets fired lol

hushed basalt
#

With HA it's no problem at all to mix though

modest sentinel
#

i've found zigbee to be muuuch easier to deal with initially, but zwave more reliable long term and with better range

hushed basalt
#

By zigbee has been pretty solid since I put a repeater next to the gateway

scenic radish
#

z-wave is supposed to be better in some ways, but i've found pairing zigbee stuff to be easier than z-wave

also it doesnt list the length

forest edge

it's under 20 bucks, what do you want?

steel urchin
#

@forest edge i literally have seen her every time just ignore people, ring them up, and get them out.. when i show up she says hi, and tries to talk to me while i'm 4-5 people behind in line while she's ringing people out... i've literally been asked if she's my girlfriend lol

scenic radish
#

everything

modest sentinel
#

i just want to find a set of lights that has one plug and can be daisy chained

#

cuz i need 80-100ft ish

steel urchin
#

or rather, they say "damn it must be nice dating the manager, get those discounts all the time!"

#

and then i make a joke saying "no she dates my wife"

modest sentinel
#

enjoy

steel urchin
#

so does anyone have more than 1 drill? I've been thinking of selling this craftsman 19.2v that i got as part of a kit many moons ago, but have brand new batteries for... forest edge
#

is she atleast attractive codex?

steel urchin
#

yeah

modest sentinel
#

@steel urchin I have two drills because I upgraded but never got rid of the old one

forest edge

well good, wouldn't ya batting your eyes for something that isn't lol

steel urchin

lol i told ya i'm a cheap ass ๐Ÿ˜›

thinking about moving the old one into the house because my garage is detached (old barn)

scenic radish

i have a drill and an impact driver

proper swift

I have like.. 4?

modest sentinel
#

@scenic radish yeah i bought the dewalt drill/impact set

forest edge
#

mixed batteries for diffrent brands is ๐Ÿคข

steel urchin
#

i got that for $65 shipped

scenic radish
#

ooo neato

forest edge

then stick with whatever takes that battery

peak cloud

Would it be worth setting up a setting up a sep VLAN for the kiddoโ€™s PC? Gf just told me she spent the past 30 minutes or so fixing his internet, heโ€™s been downloading and installing way too much junk. It wasnโ€™t until that moment that I realized our entire network is vulnerable to just even his computer.

steel urchin
modest sentinel
#

@peak cloud my buddy caught his NINE YEAR OLD reading VORE. Definitely do that.

steel urchin

damn that battery looks like a boot now that i see it

peak cloud

I have no idea what VORE is.

modest sentinel

oh you innocent child

steel urchin

wtf is vore

technically it's vorarephilia

peak cloud

I feel like โ€œVORNโ€ would have been a better descriptor for that. โ€œVampire...โ€

steel urchin

i'm here shaking my fist saying this current generation is the damning of our world

modest sentinel

but the internet calls it vore

forest edge

Ahh, ok. That makes sense.

#

This might be the tipping point of me finally jump onboard with Ubiquiti.

modest sentinel

i just joined the unifi bandwagon and got a UDM

scenic radish

for your next venture into disturbing things, (don't) search {insert favorite video game} rule 34 @peak cloud

peak cloud

Iโ€™ve been contemplating Edge router and some UAPs. Is there a better combo nowadays?

forest edge

my mom use to babysit kids that would download all kinds of crap to her pc, I finally just locked it down to where everything required a password to do. they could browse shit but couldn't download nothing, not even enable flash ect lol

peak cloud
#

@scenic radish I am aware of rule 34.

scenic radish
#

how aware? ๐Ÿ˜‰

modest sentinel
#

@peak cloud dunno if it fits you needs but you can get the UDM as a complete first step and then add on things as you need them later

#

oh and i left out one detail, she was actually watching vore youtube clips. I dont think there was nudity buuuut yeah

scenic radish
#

also dale i should be getting my edgerouter x on tuesday, i can let you know what i think of that if you want

peak cloud
#

@scenic radish Aware enough for this to be my last sentence in reference to it in here. Lol

scenic radish
#

i'm jk lol

peak cloud
#

@modest sentinel I havenโ€™t heard of the UDM, but Iโ€™ll check it out.

modest sentinel
#

there's a pro but it's only available to people in early access, aka previous customers

peak cloud
#

Lol, the first glance and short description already tells me that itโ€™s probably not what I want.

modest sentinel
#

fair enough lol

#

it was an upgrade from my asus wrt router, lol

peak cloud
#

I am really wanting a hard wired router, a PoE switch, and a couple of UAPs.

proper swift
#

I just ordered a 48port GigE switch. wooot

peak cloud
#

Thatโ€™s what I am still on, an ASUS AC68U.

modest sentinel
#

48port wtf are you doing over there

proper swift
#

it will join my 2 24's and my 16.. muhahahha

modest sentinel
#

@peak cloud yeah i had the ac66

peak cloud
#

6 cables to each you room, donchaknoโ€™?

proper swift
#

seriously. I need to change all my stuff to have a /23 netmask. not joking.

modest sentinel
#

but seriously what are you doing that requires that many devices/ports

peak cloud
#

Iโ€™m on /16 now, but need to change that ASAP.

proper swift
#

well.. in this case.. I have 3 (soon to be 5) servers with 5 nics. plus a few others with 3 in that rack

#

some of it's portbond, some of it's ILO/IPMI, some of its corosync network

#

you start throwing 5-nic machines in, and a 24 port switch goes real fast

peak cloud
#

I am on /16 with my WLED stuff on 172.16.4.0/16, ESPHome devices on 172.16.2.0/16, and the rest on 172.16.0.0/16

scenic radish
#

glances nervously with his /24 network

modest sentinel
#

mine is ... whatever it does by default ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

steel urchin
#

lol i mean... don't use wifi devices and you won't have any issues

proper swift
#

yeah.. my /24 is getting.. very crowded.. it's obnoxious

scenic radish
#

i've never had more than 30 clients on my network at any given time

#

usually it's around 25

steel urchin
#

same

modest sentinel
#

this is a new low for me... i have so many chrome windows open windows cant do previews, it has to list them. And many many tabs in each one.

steel urchin
#

i just don't like the idea of wifi devices honestly... i'm all about standards

proper swift
#

so one example, I have 2 16 port serial consoles. so those alone eat 34 IPs

scenic radish
#

@modest sentinel you ever open more than 99 tabs on chrome mobile?

modest sentinel
#

i use firefox on mobile, but yeah I went over 100... I had tabs dating back 2 years haha

steel urchin
#

lol my wife has a ton of tabs on her phone and goes "it's goign slowwww"

scenic radish
#

on chrome mobile it changes the tab count to :)

modest sentinel
#

hah, awesome

steel urchin
#

hahaha

modest sentinel
#

i have too many hobbies going on at once right now, chrome is a damn mess

steel urchin
#

bookmarks broseph!

modest sentinel
#

no i'm actively doing them all

steel urchin
#

i value my ram ๐Ÿคฃ

modest sentinel
#

also i never use bookmarks, thats where websites go to 404 when i check them again in 6 years

steel urchin
#

chrome extension cleans em up real quick

modest sentinel
#

i use the great suspender, i never have ram problems thanks to that

#

highly recommend that extension if you dont use it

steel urchin
#

interesting

#

i need a damn extension suspender ๐Ÿคฃ

modest sentinel
#

no kidding! i just looked and metamask extension is taking up 600megs, jesus

steel urchin
#

i have too many dev tools installed

#

i'm going to try this suspender one out though, thanks

peak cloud
#

@scenic radish Dang dude, 25-30 is kinda low these days. When I lived alone a couple years ago, I was at 50+ clients, but many of those were cameras.

modest sentinel
#

sure thing, you can whitelist domains too

#

so it's really handy that way

scenic radish
#

@peak cloud yeah I don't have cameras or anything

steel urchin
#

i live in areas where i don't need cameras... i haven't delved into that

clear ferry
#

Interesting, sometime during the night my roborock has stopped responding, after I blocked it from accessing the interwebs ThonkEyes

scenic radish
#

It knows

clear ferry
steel urchin
#

i can leave my vehicles running with the doors open until the tank runs dry... i'm not worried about crime

modest sentinel
#

@steel urchin what kind of area doesn't benefit from cameras?

scenic radish
#

I only don't have them because I'm in a condo with 11 other units

peak cloud
#

Quick question for you network security gurus โ€” Iโ€™ve always wondered if a client with a (I forgot the term) of /20 to access devices in the lower tiers, say like /24?

scenic radish
#

And four other buildings in the complex

steel urchin
#

netmask

scenic radish
#

Otherwise I would 100% have exterior cameras

clear ferry
#

@peak cloud a /20 subnet can encompass a /24 subnet

steel urchin
clear ferry
#

Although we prefer not to do it like that

peak cloud
#

Nah, netmask/subnet mask is an IP.

steel urchin
#

that might help you kinda look over options

#

it can be represented as either

modest sentinel
#

i want to setup cameras just to keep track of animals, my own and to see what comes in over the fence at night

steel urchin
#

prefix/netmask

#

i just call them netmask

peak cloud
#

So if I have my main network on 172.16.0.0/16, and then my kiddos subnet on 172.16.51.0/24, his device would have access to all devices only on 172.16.51.1-172.16.51.254?

#

The /XX is some specific โ€œnotationโ€

clear ferry
#

Yes his subnet mask dictates he can only talk to his own /24 subnet

steel urchin
#

prefix is the specific term

#

that represents a netmask

peak cloud
#

But he would still receive internet from 172.16.0.1, or is that no longer a valid gateway (in which case would I need to setup a VLAN with a gateway inside his subnet?)?

clear ferry
#

Exactly

#

He can't access your network without routing

#

Subnet mask make more sense to you if you look at them binary @peak cloud

peak cloud
#

Oh man, my life interests just got way more interesting now that that has been confirmed. ๐Ÿ™‚

#

11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000 = 255.255.255.0?
11111111.11111111.11110000.00000000 = 255.255.240.0?

#

In which case it would negate and allow first to access IPs 00000000.00000000.00000000.11111111, and the second to IPs 00000000.00000000.00001111.11111111

#

Thatโ€™s the whole thing that helped me understand subnet masks in their entirety. Until I finally researched that, I didnโ€™t understand the correlation between everything.

clear ferry
#

Yeah

peak cloud
#

So what would happen if I create a separate VLAN, setup the DHCP server for /24, and then he try to override it with a static IP on /16? Would he automatically gain access to the entire network?

clear ferry
#

It makes do much more sense

rain swift
#

wut

#

that's irrelevant

clear ferry
#

Sure if you are in the same physical L2 network setting a static IP in your subnet will give access

#

But if he is on a seperate vlan he will be isolated

peak cloud
#

heads to google to research L2 network real quick.

steel urchin
#

layer 2 is the data link layer

clear ferry
#

Unless you have a route that routes between those networks or your switch does intra vlan routing

steel urchin
rain swift
#

firewall all the things.

#

don't matter what they set their subnet mask to then lol

peak cloud
#

Ok, so basically from what I read it would be everything from my cable modem and back (being that they can all be referenced by MAC)

hushed basalt
#

Unplug all their ports and run a frequency jammer

#

It's the only way to be sure

clear ferry
#

Anything that shares the same vlan or if no vlan exist of a switch or multiple switches will be on the same L2

peak cloud
#

Ahhhhh, ok.

clear ferry
#

Wherever a router comes between the devices or they are on different vlans they are logically separated

#

And routing would have to be implemented to interconnect them

peak cloud
#

So (as you mentioned a few minutes ago) I can setup a route between his VLANโ€™s gateway and my primate gateway, and that will be what gives him access to the internet?

hushed basalt
#

It doesn't matter

#

I've compromised all of atxbyeas devices at the hardware level

clear ferry
#

Sure, or just create a seperate leg of your firewall, that only exists on that same vlan as his, that will contain his gateway and the firewall, and direct access to the internet without taking to your network

hushed basalt
#

Set your ssh port on your wan to 22 with username admin and no password

#

What could go wrong

peak cloud
#

@hushed basalt Username checks out ๐Ÿ˜‚

hushed basalt
#

There's an episode of mr robot where he wants to get into a cell tower

#

So he fishes all the telco employers and gets them to login to their vpn with a 'link'

Basic auth on telco infrastructure with no client certificates. Seems legit

clear ferry
forest edge

oh no...

#

it's awake

clear ferry
steel urchin

hahaha "it"

so mean

clear ferry

I'm used to worse sad

peak cloud

It has been pretty helpful to me the past few moments!

Call him what you want, he will still be a Jedi.

clear ferry

Join the council I will not hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

peak cloud
#

Yโ€™all wanna see how freakinโ€™ messy my workbench is right???!

#

Like, itโ€™s super embarrassing.

clear ferry
#

I'll probably have it worse ๐Ÿ˜›

peak cloud
#

Hah, doubtful.

raven ember
#

That is nothing

steel urchin
#

i win

raven ember
#

Do you?

steel urchin
#

you can't actually even see my table of tools lol

#

hah it looks just like that

clear ferry
#

Mine looks a lot like @raven ember right now ๐Ÿ˜›

steel urchin
#

it's too cold for the plants atm, and they're taking my valuable space

clear ferry
#

I only brought in 7 plants from the greenhouse before winter

#

And only three of them survived so far

#

Time to plant stuff for the new season soon, but not before I get back from the us ThonkEyes

forest edge

@raven ember that isn't popcorn in that container is it?

raven ember

@forest edge can you be more specific?

clear ferry

I think he is talking about your box of capacitors ๐Ÿ˜‚

forest edge
#

the picture is small i cannot make it out lol

#

it looks like popcorn lol

raven ember

Are they yellow?

forest edge

yes

like popcorn..

raven ember

Those are ring terminals

Ring terminals ThonkEyes

forest edge

I didn't want to look at Codex picture cause I was afraid i would see a hotpocket with legs moving about.. lol

clear ferry

Looked like mustard caps from here

raven ember

On iOS you can tap on the image and zoom in

#

You can see they are ring terminals

forest edge
#

i'm on pc and too lazy to open the original lol

steel urchin
#

lol wat?

raven ember
#

I also do amateur radio and a lot of high amperage 12v power

steel urchin
#

is that a meme i don't know about? lol

raven ember
#

Iโ€™ve got a 220v circuit on the other side of the room for my RF amplifier

forest edge
#

hotpocket with legs? no that's what happens when you forget food under things for months lol

clear ferry
#

This is what I thought it was

raven ember
#

It is a modest 1.2kW

clear ferry
#

220v 4 lyfe

#

None of that inferior 110v

#

๐Ÿคข

raven ember
#

I do wish the US was on a 220v standard

forest edge

I wonder what 240v feels like vs 120v
