It's about 11TBs of usable storage, I'm not sure I need a 8 x 10TB snapraid/mergerFS
I wouldn't even know what to do with 60TBs
Between netflix, disney and amazon :D
ok... the pi also got reboot issues ๐
HX711/D1 Tasmota - always displays 0kg. Tried all suggestions made in GitHub. Multiple boards, configs. Anyone got the magic sauce?
heh
On one hand I hate the climate strat from the US, on the other I'm glad our gas is cheap
I still remember when your gas passed $1 per gallon, we paid $1 per liter at that point
heh
I pay ~$0.027 per mile
say 40MPG average that's $1.08/gal
I think it's rated at 98 though
Yeah, I get so much money from work for driving that I get atleast $2 back per 10km I drive
what do you drive?
Currently a Volvo v70
weren't you complaining about expensive cars the other day @valid halo ?
I can complain and yearn to have an expensive but safe car
Volvo is THE expensive car
My car history the last 20 years is Volvo 240, Subaru 1800, Audi 100, Audi A3, Audi A6, Audi A8, Volvo V70, and I've had golf MK3 and MK4 on the side, plus my wife has a vw Tiguan
she's got a lifted golf ๐
Volvo are super unreliable from what I read?
@last dirge pretty mid range here for Volvo
@fallow galleon not compared to American or Italian cars no
they're way expensive in the US
Or French ๐คข
How about german?
Very reliable over here
I've not had much issues, except the a8, but that had 380000km on it
So strange that Americans consider German cars to be unreliable, but European seems completely fine
Because you have other options probably
BMW
With bigger engines by default
with BMW it really depends on which model/engine
I'd LOVE to get a 340i for my next car, but I'm kinda afraid because I do most of the maintenance myself
We usually begin on 1.6-2.0 engines, mostly anything I've seen in the US starts with V6 models
Exactly, the 320 would be the default here now
40 or bigger would be executive cars
In the past the 316 was the base model
328 is the base here I think
Yeah that's a v6 I believe
So there is your answer ๐
Atleast in Europe when you get up to those engine size a lot of other expensive and breakable stuff becomes default
makes sense
Which makes it more unreliable to some extent
Like air suspension etc
Yeah, 320 is the default here, checked
340 starts at 85k without extras
You get a fully loaded Tesla for less, or 3x BMW i3 fully loaded
i3 is so big in real life
It's remarkable comfortable though
unless you're nissan
But very ugly
ford is using TT V6s as performance engines
Audi too
though the VAG abuses their poor little 2.0T for literally everything
Everything is turbo. Japanese are still in transition.
In Norway the 1.2t or 1.4t is the base for most VW's now
honda, mazda, and subi are there, toyo and nissan are behind
the mazda 2.5T is pretty awesome
But close to 50% electric sales anyway
At least Toyota has crazy reliability. Nissan is behind & horrible
leaf is an under-rated car
Fully loaded model 3 is $55k here
Toyo seems to have forgotten how to develop engines. They use an atkinson cycle v6 in the taco for "reasons", a bmw i-6 for the supra and a subi H-4 for the tyoybaru
Tyoybaru ๐
lol toyota has renamed the damn thing like 5 times
but everyone knows what i mean when i say toyobaru
Well toyota is always slow in adapting
And they do coop for the sports car because developing one isn't cost effective
right, but every other mfg makes their own engines
ford is a pretty good example of developing a performance engine and then de-tuning it for normal use
their 2.3T is a good example
Focus RS > Mustang > Ranger
developing an engine is expensive but it can be used across the board if you do it right
the extreme example is the VAG 2.0T
but i think they took it too far
I guess they don't want I6 for their other cars
some of the cars they put it in are way too heavy
They have I4, V6, V8 already
well, some of the lexus line would have benefited. drop the v8
its a NA V8
that's where those benefits come from. Develop a performance engine and then detune it and use it elsewhere
idk. Large part of the charm of RC-F, GS-F, LC500 is the V8
It isn't rationable but V8 has its fan
I THINK they might be skipping turbo all together for EV
we'll see if it works out for them
they could have owned that market too
the toyota story is starting to smell like the RIMM MS story with mobile OSs
or you could compare what they did to the D3 by coming to the US
the Germans and Americans are ahead of japan right now with electrification
which is amusing because they're all using Japanese batteries
The difficulty is that you not only have to make a vehicle, but also the infrastructure for EV to succeed
yup, thats why everyone is partnering up
though the larger conglomerates have a better chance of punching through
@fallow galleon government makes most of the infrastructure for ev here
Partnered with local power firms
who'd like a banger in the mouth? oh right i forgot, here in the states, you call it a "sausage in the mouth"

does anybody know if a product exists that will let me physically switch wall switches and sliders and cord switches and stuff
I rent so I have a few switches I can't replace
the bathroom for example has a cord switch that turns on both the light and the ventilation, would be neat if I could "pull" the cord somehow on remote
there is something called a switchbot that can toggle switches without having to do any switch replacement. it's expensive tho
and my thermostat has an on/off slider switch on it
@forest edge switchbot button presser looks interesting and $30 isn't too bad
yes it's called ikea tradfri control outlet
you plug it into your normal outlet and then plug stuff into the tradfri
ikea tradfri outlet 10 bucks
Hey it's crazy username guy
@midnight adder thats a smart outlet, i'm looking into smartyfying existing switches without replacing the actual switch
theres no plug involved
oh
you can get zwave stuff to do that, it goes into the wall behind the switch plate
i use two ikea tradfri outlets for my dumb ikea led strip and cheap fan tho
zwave/wifi yea lol
i can't replace switches either
shelly/sonoff
you just have to rewire then when you leave
hm
things like that switchbot is your least intrusive method
I've seen some that cover over the switch itself, like $10
Link to switchbot?
but may get annoyign with bulky boxes and battery replacement
i've removed nearly all switches from my house
the cord switch is the one i want to replace the most though and that wall plate is sealed shut because its in the bathroom
I would love to - but didnt found one wire qnes yet
@hearty depot https://www.switch-bot.com/
thanks
i don't think european homes have had flip-rocker switches installed in the past 40 years
yea
mine looks like this
Hey, I just joined and I'm sorta new to iot and Home Assistant, is this a good place to ask questions?
yeah the majority of wall switches in europe are square
don't really see rectangular ones all that often
@late galleon if it's HA related, post to #330944238910963714
@late galleon we also have rooms regarding to the question like #diy-archived or #330990055533576204
it's just, questions in general. I haven't chosen any kind of ecosystem yet, I just have an echo dot and a xiaomi vacuum and I was wondering, will I need a hub or is that what Home Assistant does?
I don't quite understand how it differs from the other hubs
its bringing things tgether
you now need 2 apps for example - with integrations you just use HA
but i've seen there're zigbee modules and stuff
you want to talk to xiaomi then you either need a xiaomi hub or a zigbee module like conbee 2
with a zigbee module you can replace some hubs entirely
you can also choose to connect to existing hubs
eeh or a dirt ass cheap cc251
I have 2 conbee 2 devices and i love them
Is it a good idea to get a zigbee module and skip having a hub?
that's what I do with my xiaomi gateway
I rather like the open surce variant -> zigbee2mqtt
the xiaomi gateway freaks me out
@late galleon depends. My lighting system (Hue) is separate from home assistant but home assistant can still control it. Other home assistant questions should go to #330944238910963714
I use my zigbee stick only for tradfri lights tbh, everything else runs off the xiaomi gateway because it's better at receiving things
It's all a bit overwhelming if I'm honest
Do you recommend Phillips Hue, Tradfri or Yeelight for lighting?
Hue 100%
I know phillips is expensive
I use both yeelight and tradfri
Doesn't it get confusing having different brands and all?
I have over 50 tradfri lights in my house and have had some of them for almost 1.5 years now
ZIGBEE2MQTT 4LIFE ๐คฃ
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/
Supported devices:
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_devices.html
yeelight doesn't require a hub and works straight off wifi while tradfri is zigbee only and either requires an ikea hub or a zigbee stick
another 10 tradfri control outlets
well aren't you mr tradfri lol
i think I got things a bit clearer regarding hubs
also another 5 tradfri motion sensors
only reason I have tradfri is because they come in smaller sizes, my yeelights are all e27
pretty much, hubs are mostly just receivers
though I use the light ring on my xiaomi gateway as kitchen nightlight lol
I gotta get going rn, thank you!
More like bridges, or translators... They bridge 2 protocols and translate messages from one format to another
bridge is a good term yea
@late galleon whatever you do don't get tuya products
they're fuckin garbage for home assistant
tuya-convert
tuya convert works less and less because tuya started patching it out a year ago
well - when theyre ESP based they are awesome with esphome.
when youre fine with getting through the trouble of soldering
aight
I have some plugs from a Tuya sub-brand on the way just so I can play with tuya-convert lol
the last four tuya smartplugs I had all didn't work with tuya convert
I have two "losonho" plugs that are a bit older and worked but everything after that just wouldn't do ๐ฆ
get tuya based stuff those still work lol
Apparently it is a game of cat and mouse, Tuya fixes the exploit and the convert guys have to find a different way. So for a while this summer it didn't work but then started again in September ish
yeah im not big into soldering
rly - it makes a png...
nvm you got the point
I find soldering relaxing tbh
@river rune so a lot of plugs that wouldn't work in summer work now?
I should try it out again on some of my plugs then
I don't really know, that is why I have some ordered. Supposedly they will work, it doesn't hurt to try
wouldn't mind converting some more plugs
last time I tried tuya was in july or something so maybe I was just really unlucky
ended up ordering six yeelights instead and just changing all the standing lamps to that
yeelights just work.
Yeelight as a name makes me giggle
yee
"Yee Light!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt5-iZc4_qU lol he just posted this 2 hours ago
The 2.3 refresh of the Tuya Convert process with a few additional features such as the Tuya Donor, custom bin file menu, start with ESPHome, update Tasmota, etc. Flash all your devices without any soldering or opening of devices! This process allows you to flash your previo...
theyre pretty hefty, I like em
do yee light use the Wee Fee? The Zed-Wave or the Zig๐
wifi, after connecting them to the app you can enable direct lan control which allows hass to connect without a problem
Oh nice
I should pick up Yeelights then
As nice as my Z-Wave dongle is. Z-wave bulbs are not cheap enough for my miserly scrooge self
their more recent models are all bt-based so make sure you get the wifi ones I guess
BT?
๐คฎ
I've already got four tiles running interference on my wifi. I don't need bluetooth light bulbs too
thanks for the warning fam
zwave is stupid expensive lol
lol
it just sits there gathering dust
wifi/RF go cheap lol
I have 4 z-wave devices... a smoke detector, 2 wall plugs, and one in-wall light switch
I want to go all Zigbee and WiFi from now on though
I'd still recommend checking Mi Lights in the lower price range. Not wifi, cheap and can be used locally with a diy hub for a few โฌ/$
I got the RGB ones because they're only a buck extra and hey what the hell right
The Yeelight I have is very good too and wasn't expensive at all
that yeelight looks like more base than bulb lol
10W will need some cooling
My main lights have 2 Yeelight V2
milights are hell to develop for though because some retard at the mi light design team thought it'd be smart to require HSL values instead of RGB
I remember Bruh Automation was like "Just jury rig thise son off majigger to talk to these cheap ass RF outlets."
HSL Hue Saturation Lux?
Huge Swedish lasagna
Yep, doesn't sound that bad, until you realize it only goes from 28 to 128 or something
not the full range you'd expect
typo
Lighting is weird
wth is swedish lasagna? sausage casserole? lol
they have some odd limitation that just doesn't allow regular hsl values

So you gotta figure out your RGB in HSL and then figure out what the Special Snowflake software wants?
@forest edge swedish lasagna is lasagna with instructions
lol
rgb to hsl to fuckin 80% of the hsl colorspace
so I goto my college website and click pay tuition. Then I choose the semester. Then I say how much I want to pay. THEN it takes to a another website where I put in ALL THAT INFO again and then can finally put in my card to pay.
Someone's palms are greasy as hell
back when i was in highschool they blocked youtube by completely destroying the page request so you'd just get served a blank page
sounds annoying but workable right
yeah well then the cisco login page had a youtube promo embedded
w o o p s
good luck doing your ccna exams
Oh
That reminds me
my college has four courses related to the CCNA
I need to check if they're good or not
i have a cisco it essentials and a ccna 1
never used them in my life because it essentials is computers for babies and ccna 1 is just basic networking
XD
i've never owned a single cisco product lol
I've got an A+ Cert from COMPTIA.
It helped me get a job
I guess that 200 dollars was worth it
get on my level i'm certified for microsoft office 2010
I'm not gonna lie man

I currently have my A+ and am working on getting AWS certs which should give me a raise at work. And they are paying for the tests so why not
and I learned SO MUCH on how to use Office
everything else is basic access, powerpoint and word
Databases are neato
Access is garbage as a DB honestly
what are you talking about, multi-user by means of sharing the database file on network storage is totally reasonable! /s
๐
Passwords are so difficult to guess anyway, say no to encryption
I'll be honest when my experience with sharing data was seeing my coworker using excel sheets all the time
Access seemed neat
@boreal pewter welcome123
I'd tell you my password but I don't know it
You password must have at least 8 characters
12345678
with uppercase W for extra security
WOH no, mom forgets that surely
Your password must be between 6-7 characters. Use Upper and lower case and Unicode Characters and punctuation. Without using the same character twice. It cannot be the same as any of your past ten passwords and it cannot use vowels.
Yeah, uppercase is hard to remember and having to strech for the numbers at the top of the keyboard is too hard... Just use password
"here are some parameters to feed your password cracker with"
Since I'm german and for us it is passwort, you are 100% secure from the germans using password
@boreal pewter what about dyslectic germans tho
"Remember to use your birthday as an easy password. You'll never forget it!"
pasword
The best thing I did for my mom in the past 3 years was buying her a password booklet
Assword
They never get those characters right, ss, nn, mm
Just use Sex as a password. No one would ever think of that.
And we have many such words
hunter2
Dude how did you guess my password
Your password is ******* too?!
dunno what the fuck I just did but I accidentally opened up the developer console in discord???
Actually, set your password to all asterisks. No one would guess that
My brother when I logged into his shared Netflix from old work where we were proxied through some easter countries - changes password: "A word and 4 numbers"
HAH
heh
okay so ctrl+shift+i opens up the devconsole in discord
I get it
that's a new one
isn't Discord the app in Electron
yep
actually I thought it was ember
to say Electron sucks
anyways with this new found knowledge I can more easily fake convos and steal profile pics of girls
hooray
Oh good. I can continue to sound like I know what I'm talking about
And yeah Electron uses the Chrome dev interface
does electron run on chromium by any chance?
Electron for when you want to chrome out of chrome so you can chhrome without chrome
All the profile pics are stored in your cache directory already... No need to steal them lol
when you chrome too hard
||๐คก ||

@hearty depot bootleg fantastic four?
i want a firefox plushie but there are none because firefox merch is rare as shit
Just like memory isssues in chrome
they had a merch store but shut it down because a bunch of nerds don't know how to run a webstore
like, dude, just outsource it
anything
One day my dream of a Home Assistant Body Pillow will come true
the laws of man nor god shall stop me
senpai notice me
ebay does not have firefox plushies
anything
if you aint ram you aint ham
if only Chrome (and Vivaldi) would actually release it when someone else needs it
i should get a dragon quest slime plushie
i've been playing a lot of dragon quest minecraft lately
Glances yells at me when my Raspberry Pi's whopping 100MB of swap is mostly used

you're not using it right
everyhthing must be at max usage

or you're wasting your money
If I walk in your house and your PC doesn't sound and glow like space shuttle taking off. We can't be friends
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
i have a hard time sleeping whenever I'm spending the night at family or friends because I'm so used to the constant hum of my homelab
I get that sometimes
in that a lot of times I cannot fall asleep unless I'm in the middle of listening to something
hey google play relaxation sounds
and then it does the fuckin annoying grassmower one so you have to say it again hoping that it will switch to rain
Nah
I just have Google Play a pod cast I like
Like Hard Core History
fall asleep listening to Dan Carlin talk about Genghis Khan conquering places
Then I wake up and it's STILL GOING because I forgot to set a sleep timer
for some reason i started playing white noise a couple years ago when sleeping and now i basically can't fall asleep without it
not sure why i started. 25 years of not using white noise before
My therapist has a white noise generator so that I can't listen in on her other patients.
yeah that's common from what i understand
white noise? you listening for ghosts? EVP?
Tediore can't sleep till he hears the original actor for Chef Boyardee say, " that's a big meatballll! " in the white noise.
Might be a weird question, but does anyone know of an EMF reader that can send its readings to home assistant?
Holy hell, I could NOT sleep last night
I'd ask in #330944238910963714 or #diy-archived @rain swift
@hushed basalt I truncated the logs, lemme see if they rang the doorbell again
What exactly is an EMF reader?
reads EMFs
doorbell spaz out all night?
Aren't light also em wave
No
Electricity generates magnetic fields, and vice versa
So using the versa, you can get readings
Then that's magnetic field
microwave, visible light, gamma ray are electromagnetic waves
@steel urchin right now you come up here when my problem is solved lol
I had a Docker issue where could have helped easily ๐
i just show up and touch something and it starts working
But now its solved
noice
Hi everyone. Mind if I share a project I have just finished? Really want to show people that may appreciate it
last night the HA app kept tossing me across the city (meanwhile every other gps tool knew exactly where i was) turning the lights on.. it was mildly humorous until it wasn't
Sharing a project here helps 5 users that see it until it got spammed away
And there mostly is not enough reason to sticky
lol codex
@exotic bane do it

ooh magic mirror, want
It would be better if the two way acrylic didn't flex. It looks a bit like a circus mirror
Is it just me loading endlessly on the HA link?
mine's fine
Damn DNS
How do you build a smart mirror? A highly reflective glass over a monitor? Is that it?
Yeah. 2 way mirrored acrylic over a monitor in a frame
is it touch screen that's the question
dude, don't get me started on DNS... i've bene having to trick my network like crazy to get around not having NAT loopback
lol
Unfortunately not @forest edge If it was, no reconfiguration would be necessary
lol oops
I am okay if it is not a touch screen. We can always make it voice activated
*mind activated
I have Google Homes all over my house, 6 to be precise
Only 6?
amateur hour over here
@hushed basalt it appears the logs are silent after truncating... apparently only 1 single hit from Le France
I have a 2 bedroom, end terrace house, I can't fit anymore around
There is always a way
sure you can
i have 5 in my condo lol
Smart lights in (almost) every room
three google homes, one hub, one insignia smart speaker with google assistant built in
littered pucks ๐คข
Wait... why is it called Magic Mirror? Shouldnโt it be Smart Mirror?
to regular folks smart == magic
I guess, but the internet calls it a magic mirror because old people think technology is magic
Does it come with a magic wand?
lol does it matter if it's smart or magic? it's neat and fun
anywho, i wonder if i can make one of those like 8ft wide
Fully controllable from lovelace
https://www.amazon.com/Kymera-Magic-Wand-Remote-Control/dp/B002SJKWZ4 probably doable @last plaza
that might be pricey to make a mirror that big
well the smart part wouldnt' be that big
but the mirror, yes
because i have a 60ft wall that needs something on it ๐คฃ
as a huge tv/look at my whole body in all it's glory?
If you put a 4k tv behind it and connect RPi to TV, that will be a Magic Mirror
Why go with monitor when you can put a TV?
Yep
I looked into the giant mirror thing.. the plexi gets stupid expensive
I couldn't watch tv through a "magic mirror" lol that would get annoying really fast lol
Then you can watch yourself.
exactly what you would be watching lol
add a carmera stream, then you can watch yourself watching yourself
lol
How hard is it to make that floorplan deal?
On paper, it is easy.
depends on how detailed you want it
plus plexiglass at that dimension warps alot, so, it owuld be like a magic funhouse mirror
can get something in <5min in MS paint
my stick figure HA floorplan hehe
I was once thinking of starting my own magic mirror production company
but the idea flopped as its a really scarce market
so is not doing it, and automating instead
We were in Universal Studios during holidays. There is a Harry Potter magic wand store there. People are going crazy on that shit. https://discordapp.com/channels/330944238910963714/397426163649216512/663826452197933077
thats cuz harry potter
Sketchup is great. I modelled my entire house in it last month
You never know how many crazy Harry Potter fans out there who are willing to spend $90 on a plastic stick that probably cost $2
lol start your car with the wand
sign me up
I modeled mine in sweethome3d pretty easily. never did anything with it tho
70 bucks for that wand is a ripoff, i think Drzzz version was better lol
I was 6 when the first book came out, I "grew up" with it
The capes are like $150.
guess it's better than snorting spray paint
Those I can live without, I'll rather build a lightsabre ๐
See you later guys, thanks for letting me plug my project ๐
yea cool mirror
@light trout I thought the first book came out before you were born
I'm not that young
1997
You are that young to me ๐ด

Here I am, using an SSH client on my phone. Do I have a problem?
yea cause if you were more modern you wouldn't even need to be entering any of that in manually
wut
they make ssh clients were you can bind macros for a single button press of quick ssh commands, it connects, displays output and can disconnect in a blink
well for android, dunno about ios
oooo neato @forest edge
i use termius but there are far more feature packed ones
JuiceSSH is neat
@scenic radish I did that in 2005, atleast I had a full physical qwerty keyboard on my phone
I miss them actually lol
The Sony Ericsson p900 was a good phone
I loved my Galaxy S2 lol
I had a sidekick, it was kinda nice.
I remember when boxee box or whatever it was with the tv remote with a fuill keyboard on the backside.. was so neat lol

actually it looks really clean this way

i mean it's neat, but the software for them blow, and really it sits under my desk so i only see it as i enter the room
and the wifey was happy she could make hers pink
I was dremmeling holes and epoxying plexiglass and soldering leds onto molex connectors in my computer back when I had an Athlon 1200 and was spending hours playing Everquest lol
lol i always wanted to do all that to my chassis but was too scared to ruin things
back in my k6-2 days
I even put a window into my cdrw drive, total madlad
when you could overclock by using a pencil ๐คฃ
Amd before they had thermal throttling ๐คข
hah amazing
Or... Amd ๐คข
2 SHOTS!
I remember I once tried to install HA on my old samsung android phone
or was it Node-Red
Does anyone have a way to sync lights to an AndroidTV box?
I sync my lights by using the state of Plex
Sync lights? A cinema Mode? Or do you mean Ambilight? HA related?
I don't do that because I may not want the lights dim when I am watching something.
whe plex says p0rn his lights turn on full bright
too much automation can be a bad thing lol.
If it's HA related it's forbidden
Ambilight for 4k costs a few 100 bucks
Cinema Mode is running + additional dark and Light switch tho
that stuff is neat, but i feel like my head is swirling when that is going on during a movie/game

like sensory overload
someone posted some system that does that but also has these "pixel" addons for sticking on the wall like those leafs.. that would drive me nuts
https://lightpack.tv/ watch the vid, those pixels...
Lightpack is an ambient display lighting system that syncs with on-screen content to dynamically backlight your TV monitor and computer with LED lights.
that's lame
this is what i was talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GDpv1kICjQ
Review of the touch enabled Nanoleaf Canvas with a comparison to the Nanoleaf Aurora Light Panels.

@forest edge you mean the dyson 360 eye?
It looks so awful
the thing you linked was the handheld vacuum, i was refering to the dyson version
I Linked nothing
Roborock s6 Pure is a robot
H6 is a hendheld, indeed, announced too
oh it showed a handheld vvacuum when i googled lol
But S6
my bad
I just got my Roidmi Nex Storm from crowdfunding months ago tho
so i just discovered the other day that if and case statements in bash scripts end with fi and esac. that was a strange experience when i saw it for the first time
ending it with the word backward. clever, i guess
if not strange
That is POSIX compliant shells
i'm used to jinja2
fish does something different iirc
yeah i'm running bash on my pi
i've used zsh a little bit but never made it the default
I run zsh as my primary
zsh is great
the command autofill is kind of cool
jinja is crap... i hate templating engines, and configurations should not be a place to hold scripts imo... but we're about to get into "religious wars" with this crap
Yeah, I love it... I have a couple plugins that give fish like functions, like syntax highlighting on the command line and auto complete history while typing
Thymeleaf has entered the chat
@steel urchin why trim logs when you can just send them to a dot matrix printer
Velocity has entered the chat
template engines are a nice thought, but in practice they just add overhead

What's the alternative to jinja nfgCodex?
@steel urchin But to get back to our NAT conversation. NAT loopback (or hairpinning) is where a connection leaves the NAT and then connects back to a host inside the NAT using the external IP address. This is usually because the client is hitting a DNS server outside of the NAT and it is resolving the domain back to the NAT router which is forwarding it on to the host. This is resolved by configuring a DNS resolver/server inside the NAT which resolves any hostnames which are located inside the NAT and forwarding any others to the outside DNS server.
i already explained you don't get NAT loopback with CTF
@hushed basalt an alternative would use actual scripting rather than parsed tokenized templating
the concept is 100% the same, you just don't have a made up syntax blocking logic
CTF to me stands for Capture the Flag... lol
RED TEAM WINS
I think CTF is referred to as different things by diffrent manufactures
Ok, but that is a switching protocol, not a routing protocol...
linksys calls it ctf but like someone else may refer to it as fastapcket or something lol
the industry term is CTF, so i use that term
TERRORISTS WIN
asus, linksys, netgear, all 3rd party, they all call it CTF
This is a reminder to explain your acroynms
gotta make sure everybody understands the TLAs
ah well i remember reading it wasn't a universal term
and ETLAs
I just ordered parts for smart green house v2
what it does is universal but the name wasn't
V1 didn't work out
well i figured someone who was willing to correct me on something would know what they were talking about ๐
Aye, automatic watering based on dryness of soil, and controlling fans and temperature
It will
neat
Also, infiniband or gtfo you casuals ๐
what sensors does it use?
I have three different soil sensors I'm going to try out
lol actually that reminds me... i need to hit up my mellanox contact
I made a diy soil moisture sensor using nails and it worked great until they rusted...
I bought some of those miflora sensors
Mellanox
hopefully they'll keep me from killing these fruit trees I bought
I have a esp variant of them im going to try out
heh i can't say what i want... stupid NDAs
Don't bother with me, I'm in NDA meetings with VMware and others here and there ๐
yep same... mellanox, nvidia, amd, intel, vmware, oracle, and many others.. when you build what the "cloud" runs on you have a lot of players in the mix
you guys should bring the cloud down from within..
damnit, i can't file for homestead exemption
need to update the license first... LAME
I should probably update that
I've lived in this house comin up on 7 years and never transferred it from my other house
that's a big oops
probably not
i save ~2200/yr just having it
i couldn't go 7 years without it lol
but our new house doesn't register in most systems so i'm trying to figure out how the heck i'm supposed to accomplish all this
hoping things start recognizing our address soon
i asked them "how did the city manage all this crap before technology?" "oh, we'd just drive over and verify" "ok can you do that now?" "no"
I'm going to attempt to set up the roku card from HACS, any gotchas to know about?
will be my first custom card, dun dun duunnn.
where is /local/? I think I am missing the images
@forest edge I am the โ๏ธ
@clear ferry so we take you out and that ends all this misery of hacking and dealing with forced limited api and lack of local control? where does your plane land again? lmao
@scenic radish ||๐ก||

Grr, didnt change anything (that I can tell) and now my switch doesnt turn off as it did before
sounds like <forbidden topic>
do i need to reeeee again?

yay.. got my rainmachine working
so.....it makes rain?
Howdy howdy
So, if you were moving into a new house (US) and wanted to replace all the switches (about 20) in the house, what would you go with? Martin Jerry? Gosund? And Tasmota or ESPHome?
I would just find a panel solution in that case
That's gonna cost about 100x as much
I can do every switch for under $300 easily. That wouldn't cover the labor to install that monster
Hi guys. Anyone here has experience on OpenOCD and/or ST-Link V2? Tried dumping a firmware from a nRf51 but apparently it's empty. Command used was claimed to be able to "dump entire firmware".
dump_image stock_nrf51.bin 0x0 0x40000
I also wonder if it can control each light or just to whole circuit.
next best thing would be all shelly switches if cost was the concern
Not interested in bulbs. Want to do whole switches, not switch+Shelly, too much mess in the box for my liking. I didn't know Shelly had a full switch assembly, will look into that
there isn't a full switch from shelly
and lol mess?
what do you care about what you cannot see? lol
More connections and a rats nest of wires, just not interested in that solution
something also to consider, if a smart switch dies you lose control, if something like a shelly or sonoff dies you still maintain manual control
Fair point on that.
Homeseer switches
If a dumb switch dies you lose control
and they tend to fail open
well no if a shelly + dumb switch and dumb switch dies, shelly still controls the light lol
But they are infinitely more simple and reliable
Have there been studies?
I honestly have a bit of a fire phobia about putting a Shelly in the box with the switch. May not be realistic, but it makes me uncomfortable
If the zwave fails, you still have manual control
In reality, all these Chinese switches probably have the same hazards
shelly also makes some of thiers with the ul standard if that makes ya feel any better lol
I have zero data to back up my feeling, and I'm OK with that. I will worry about it endlessly, just how I am
I'm probably overthinking the whole thing anyhow
So get a zwave switch
get a servant, no fire risk and can do more than one light switch and dosen't lose power during outage and lose settings
I'm not opposed to zwave but would prefer to not have the extra bits to use it instead of MQTT
Servant would get mad and kill me in my sleep, so no better and they would eat more than a Shelly
Just a zwave controller
HA can control zwave natively if you get a controller
you go down the zwave path then you best go back and rethink the panel lol
Zwave2MQTT is also a thing
Any advantage over native MQTT?
it puts zwave devices into mqtt space
Plus an extra layer, which unless it brings an advantage to the table, I'd rather avoid
Plus homeseer has triple double and long press functions
no 2.4GHz
that's a huge advantage in itself
none of those devices are on your network
so another
Why is that an advantage?
2.4GHz is crowded as hell
turn on your microwave and it interferes with 2.4
But you have other 2.4 devices on your network?
ok, none of the devices are on your home network then
literally not possible for them to connect to the internet
Trying to think if I do. Most everything I have is 5ghz
They will be on their own isolated vlan, so not really worried about that. Already vlan the kids off on their own, so thats no biggie
I am a big fan of zwave. 2.4 and 5.0 are for me ๐คฃ
overpriced groupie lol
You get what you pay for ๐
yea like 3 shellys to one zwave switch lol
I'm just not sure zwave has any advantage for me and adds complexity. I can see use cases for it, just no real advantage for mine
If I lived somewhere that 2.4 was more congested
I donโt really care what you get. You asked, I answered ๐บ
are you going to set up a separate AP for these?
Zwave works great for me and I don't have to hack it, and hope my house doesn't catch fire
because the other thing to keep in mind is that a wifi network can only run as fast as the slowest device
They will have their own SSID in unifi
I think the only thing I have on 2.4 now is a few 8266s and my printer. Phones, PC's, TVs are all on 5ghz
because the other thing to keep in mind is that a wifi network can only run as fast as the slowest device
thats for data rate. say you had a wireless g device on a mixed band with N
They all share the same network though
most devices like shelly and evven smart bnulbs are N
so they don't slow down the data rate
Unless you have dual WANs
well unless you are AC evverywhere
Zwave is also a mesh which is great
Filling regular wifi with smart devices is asking for trouble
Gonna bog it down
and zwave devices can directly control eachother
just hard wire everything and be done with the issues lol
And zwave sounds cool.....shelly just doesnโt
I'm not sure I'm buying the network congestion argument. I have a mixed network now and the slow devices like the 8266 aren't slowing down the AC devices.
zwave dosen't sound 5X markup cost cool lol
especially when it's zigbee with a official sticker....
ooooooOOOOOooo
End of the day I'd wager they both have their own issues and it doesn't really matter
I donโt have Zigbee but those who have both say Zigbee isnโt even close to zwave
the sticker improves signal lol
Like chrome makes cars faster
say what you will about zigbee, but i haven't had any issues with my stuff
wifi is a standard/protocol zwave is a red headed stepchild
I just wish I could use my redlink bandwith l;ol
Wifi performance is also highly dependent on what kind of AP you are running.
@scenic radish TM needs your help lol
If you are running the AP that is part of the router your ISP gave you, its probably not the best
Z-Wave is a standard protocol... just not a public standard
I use the best tool for the job, my hue bulbs are zigbee, lot of my security stuff is zwave, I've got WiFi, wired, I'm getting bathed in EMF.
Zigbee is also a standard/protocol, just an open source one, instead of one controlled by any one entity be it public or private
Just use whatever does what you want well and be happy haha
I didn't expect this to be a protocol war. Lol
Lol I stopped caring a long time ago
After a while in IT you don't care
Unless you're Richard stallman
Has anyone ever measured the lag of each protocol? Is one significantly faster than the other? I know there are variables but I would think somewhere along the way some has done the best they can to even the playing field and benchmark
I have zigbee switches controlling z-wave devices... In the end it really doesn't matter
This
proprietary will always have the upper hand as opposed to open source
less chance for interfernces ect to effect speed
That depends... Open source will always have the upper hand in getting my money unless the devices don't fit the bill or the wallet
For the same cost and functionality I will choose zigbee over wifi or z-wave any day.
was talking in regards to @green inlet question about speed testing
Oh... well, I still say it depends.
Z-wave is definately slower than zigbee or wifi due to the lower bandwith capacity. Zigbee is a slower protocol than WiFi but WiFi is generally more conjested so they should be fairly close to equal
It also depends a lot on the devices on either end
I think it's whatever you are most comfortable with and are capable of supporting. Because when the wife can't turn on the kitchen light to make your sammich, what protocol it is won't matter
Zwave is slower than WiFi?
And distance. If you are at the edge of the range of WiFi or Zigbee then Z-wave will probably be faster because it will have fewer dropped packets and be more reliable
here's an alright read if you really want to get into it https://www.howtogeek.com/441296/wi-fi-vs.-zigbee-and-z-wave-which-is-better/
Yes, Z-wave is a lot slower than WiFi but not in a way that you would really notice for something like sensor data
Z-wave can operate at about 40Kbps
Zigbee at about 200Kbps
WiFi at whatever protocol your devices support - lag and wait times
look up wifi aware, it's gonna pretty much take over evverything in the end lol
