Dahua, for example, has a bad track record of updating their firmware, and in many reported cases, their default passwords were well know.... Someone could literally sniff out a Dahua cam, and access the rest of the persons network since it was on the same SSID

I think my days of HASS might be numbered, I have reached a conclusion with my SO that IoT, automation and voice assistants will need to be removed from house. The garage can have some limited automations though :/ , started removing the zigbee switches this afternoon.

Have you tried to run vmware as hypervisor on a day-to-day computer and a NAS os like unraid etc as a host as well as a windows host with graphics passthrough (to be used as a regular machine). I see some use unraid and use vm from there, but not sure if it could be clever to run it the opposite way if vmware handle vm better than for example unraid

yeah I see its two kinda of setups - some install for example unraid on bare metal and run a vm with graphics passthrough for gaming machine over a nas, and some run vmware on bare metal a nas vm, a windows vm with nvidia passthrough.
