everything points to "it should be working"
i can access from another system on the LAN just fine, that's the part that's REALLY screwing with me
it's like a route is messed up, but i don't see anything jumping out at me
and i literally installed windows today in this vm and updated, windows defender a/v and firewall disabled completely...
that was a joke, but you didn't get it
you told it wrong 😛
@steel urchin Nope, I’m pretty sure he told it just right. I’m glad you got it the second time, though!
I do love how he turned the explanation into another joke, that one had me rollin’.
as a network kernel writer i disagree 😛
well the joke goes "I'd tell you a UDP joke, but i'm not sure you'd get it"
he just said "UDP?" during a valid network issue, which wasn't very "jokey"
So wait, a joke can only be told one way?! mind blown
if you want it told right, yes
it's called "delivery"
but, don't ask the USPS about that
(that's how it's done)
Which I fail very miserably at, every single time.
So you’re saying I should try to get a job at USPS. Got it!
so you're sayin you're the digornio of jokes? cuz it's not DELIVERY!?!?!
lol ok that was a stretch
(In the Mario voice) Is’a me, DiGiorno!
so... new bulbs = 👌
But seriously, you gotta hand it to him. His explanation was a joke in and of itself. And that made it super stellar.
Soooo I did a thing. 🙂
hehe yeah, i'll give it to him 😛
@brave panther you hurt yourself again?!!! STOP HURTING YOURSELF BY DOING THINGS!!!
Got SICK of the inability to flash older firmware, so I compiled a firmware with version 0xFFFFFFFF (255.255.255.255) and minimum version 0x00000000 (0.0.0.0) so I can flash whatever I want.
hax
Ikr 🙂
I "accidentally" overwrote two of my dimmers with Tasmota 7.2.-something and couldn't flash back to tasmota-7.0.0.5-digiDIMv8
so they stopped working, and people were unpleased.
I have never been a big tasmota guy 🤷🏻♂️
better than a lot of the offerings i guess.
MQTT is nice.
I have them in "works even if MQTT dies" mode.
The fallback I had with it was trying to use it in a closed/offline environment, one where I did not want to deploy a broker.
Twas pretty easy to do this too, it's great how easy Theo made it even for fools like myself to compile a bin.
(to be honest, now that I have what I came for, I'll likely never touch Atom or the source again, until I need to update it to fix a bug or something) 😄
I ran Tasmota on a Sonoff 4CH Pro R2 for my Jeep, but wanted to be able to control it directly (ad-hoc) with a Nextion. 👎🏻
Whew, glad you’ve vowed to never touching atom again! VS Code is where it’s at, my friend!
No, the stock 4CH firmware requires internet, and as far as I know, is still a closed firmware.
something along the lines of "users report it works..."
Gotcha. Yes, it's still very much closed source.
Even closed-release, ie "oops I accidentally" and they won't give you the bin.
But now that ESPHome is a thing, my life is wonderful!
It's on the internet though, I linked it in my iot-santa Github.
Anywho yeah, that's great. Got my dimmers working, remotely even (over VPN, using a camera to confirm it), off to toy with WLED and xLights 🙂
Only 1 year to go!
I run ESPHome directly on the 4Ch’s ESP, and since it supports Nextion displays, I no longer need an additional Wemos D1 to bridge the two.
Nice!
ESPHome is love. ESPHome is life.
Until it comes to driving WS281X LEDs...then: WLED is love. WLED is life.
I'm actually going to be using one of the 4-channel relays to control 3 garage doors soon. then I'll wire the already-wired doorbell buttons to the output of the relays to retain the physical control over them.
As long as you don’t have “Security 2.0” garage door openers, that should be fine.
Lmao the marketing is strong with garage door openers these days.
(It’s a Chamberlain line of things)
Was actually planning on getting a couple new universal remotes as a couple of the old ones are ... old
and yeah it's just silly.
Seriously, Security 2.0 locks you into their own remotes. Myq is the only smart opener that I know of that works with it.
I’m not sure if the 4CH has 3 inputs that are usable/accessible for sensors — might be something you want to look into.
i won't be replacing any of the garage door openers themselves or the control units but just the remotes and buttons to open them, for now at least. haven't looked into what the old one is and if i need to be concerned (clear-text, not-encrypted codes, etc) but maybe in the future. would like to get a radio and see if i can sniff out the codes OTA.
Well I'm just using them to close the circuit to open or close the door. Have magnetic sensors to detect open/close already.
MQTT of course 😄
Well, before Sec20 you could just short the terminals and it would open/close, so encryption is no big deal there.
And if you ever do end up sniffing the codes, they are rolling codes. Most likey 315MHz or 433MHz.
Rolling codes require a second “engagement” to pair.
yeah pretty sure we have to use two remotes to pair a third, hold them for like 10 seconds or something. been awhile.
And once it’s paired, a remote has approximately 200 presses to get a valid signal back from the opener in order to stay paired.
By second engagement I meant that the remote has to send it’s signal twice, not necessarily a second remote.
Car keyless entry systems work very similar, but with more security. They are rolling codes as well. If you ever want to mess with a friend and lock them out of their car, you can grab their car remote and press the button 200+ times to “unsync” the remote from their vehicle.
lmao. you obviously know a lot more than i do about this. guessing you've had your own adventures?
With garage door openers, yes. Keyless entry systems, no. It’s just the knowledge I gain from research. Haha.
If you ever want to mess with a friend and lock them out of their car, you can grab their car remote and press the button 200+ times to “unsync” the remote from their vehicle
please don't share this with my friends
Well, I hope your friends aren’t lurking in this channel then 😂
If you can grab somebody's remote, there are more creative ways of messing with them, not including cans of fish
My favourite trick if you can reliably get repeated access is to adjust mirrors (and optionally the seat) to make it seem like they're growing/shrinking/leaning
tiny little changes, not enough to be obvious, just enough to mess with people 😛
Oh man, I would know instantly if someone messed with my seat or mirrors.
Not if you make the change small enough 😉
Move the seat in their car three inches forward.
Those are four of five things you don’t touch in my Jeep.
I'm not speaking from experience of messing with somebody, you understand 😉
😇
I know to the inch where my mirrors line up. If my seat is adjusted, all three mirrors are off. Unless you’re able to adjust all three mirrors and the seat in just the right way, I may not notice. But good luck with that!
(My mirrors are adjusted to see specific things on the vehicle, in specific ways)
Scratch that...five mirrors. I have two “blind spot” mirrors, and those are what some kids messed with last time.
Some epic Photoshop there. 🙂
That's my idea. Basically just doing the same thing we're doing, but putting a Sonoff 4-channel behind the buttons to act as another switch.
You sure that wasn’t paint from Win98 SE? 😂

Even when trying to override the garage door buttons, it’s necessary to have sensor input of the door position. And please, for the love of safety and other humans around you, make sure your garage doors have safety sensors.
They do, that's the orange leads.
One of which I need to replace, as it shorts out (bad wire job from previous owner..)
It shorts out safe, though, as in it trips unnecessarily
So I destroyed a device today...
Lost connectivity for a blip of a second unfortunately while flashing an OTA update and couldn't reconnect...
Tore it apart only to find that there was no way to get to the chip's pins, as they soldered a damn shield over it. 😐
So then unsolder the shield?
debating if it's even worth the time to undo that, or just toss it and buy two more for $28...
I was surprised they actually worked in the first place, but they're actually pretty solid devices. Two ports, and power monitoring.
I made a template for them and sprinkled them around the house.
You may try taking a multimeter and seeing what the tabs are underneath before doing that, though.
Have a pic of the underside of the PCB?
"Alexa, turn on the space heater."
"Okay."
"And turn on the heated blanket."
"Okay."
15A, yes please.
ummm
Majority of the time the correct pins are exposed via PCB.
yeah. problem is the gross abundance of crap in the way too 🙂
Touché
and to even get the board off the plastic, have to unsolder the line, neutral, and earth pins. they really engineered these to be not-user-friendly.
bottom of the board is just leads and couple vias. nothing interesting.
In that case, it does seem much easier to remove the shield and flash the chip directly then.
A handful of solid 28awg wires, some solder, a soldering iron, and a USB/TTL adapter and you’re back in business.
Merry Christmas you filthy animals
Dude. Santa hasn’t slid down my chimney yet, therefore it is not Christmas yet!
Pff, you just live in the wrong timezone and celebrate on the wrong day
Speaking of...this Santa needs to get some rest. I’ve got three kiddos expecting me to be awake in a couple of hours. :/
Happy holidays atxbyea
@ocean mirage how is life in the future?
its aight
Give me the lotto numbers for this evening
I am watching Die Hard
I am dreading tomorrow evening, but soooo looking forward to Christmas morning. There’s nothing better than seeing the happiness that overcomes your kids on Christmas morning.
Lotto numbers are all 4
Mine is only 15 months so she is just, meh it's a tree, I've seen one before
Next year is going to bring so much joy to your life. 🥰🥰🥰
Ill have to find some kids so I can experience it

G’night fellas.
FBI? Yes this post right here
Aint no FBI here
Police cant make it
🚔
ended up breaking it even more. but is it even breaking it, if it's already broken? 😄
the shield was soldered all the way around. would've needed a reflow oven or some stupidly fine soldering iron tip (like 0.2mm)
ended up prying it off with a razor blade, stripping the copper from the board itself.
oh well. just have to be more careful with them. they're definitely not easily serviceable.
Hope you are far from the fires btw @tough igloo @hushed basalt @ocean mirage
thanks m8, bout 40km or so from the nearest one thats been raging for weeks, no real danger though
massive one a bit further away too
its just been smoky as hell, staying indoors
Been bad in north eastern nsw for a while now. Most days are smokey
Hi all, Merry Christmas!
Does anyone know of a smart power strip extension (EU plugs) that integrates with Home Assistant?
#330944238910963714 might 😉
You know what really sucks?! BEING SICK ON CHRISTMAS!!!!!
Yes
I managed to avoid that for a few years - manging my stress levels better
This year, not so much
Well, stop yelling at people and maybe your stress levels will go down 😝
But that’s funny you mention that — my stress levels have been rather high this December. And now I’m sick. Maybe a link there!
I clocked it some years back - when I was taking a break, my stress levels would drop, and my immune system would chill out
All the things it'd been holding off got free reign
There’s a new app that helps track moods, I may have to download it. Saw it on Reddit a few weeks back.
I've started meditating to help, and it has helped, but the last 6 months have been hella stressful at work
I hate to think how it'd have hit me if I hadn't been
The dev did a shameless self-plug with his data in r/dataisbeautiful — and oh, it was beautiful indeed.
Meditating, medicating...potato potahto
😄
(Embarrassing alert)
I always keep medication as a last resort, because I'm aware that my body can react atypically
Sometimes I accidentally say “stay home and meditate” in the RX lyrics of Theory of a Deadman.
🤣
I medicate daily — stupid chemical imbalances
Yeah, I have a few friends in that world
It’s not a fun world to be in sometimes.
No, but better sometimes than pretending it's not a problem
True. Very true.
@obsidian burrow Figured this might fit into the current discussion over in #330944238910963714 😂
100% true
does any one use TIDAL to get hi res audio?
That thing is YUGE
2.4 meturz
YUUUUUUUGE
Santa Tracker (https://santatracker.google.com) doesn't seem to work on Fire TV 😦
But https://www.noradsanta.org/ does! Woot!
I tried tidal, but, honestly I couldn't get it to play reliably on my sonos sytem
so, i'
i'm just waiting for the free trial to expire
holy hell.. first day i'v slept more than 4 hours in almost 2 weeks! Feelsgoodman.jpg
also, guess i'm giving up on this stupid RCON connection oddity.... no clue why this simple thing won't work
Merry Christmas from New Zealand!
Merry Christmas

Thank you, but we all know there's no chance of that
for a start, I'm married with kids...
🙏
Love and marriage, love and marriage, it's an institute you can't disparage
Lol
Just finished my stint at driving
Did ~5 hrs, the lady is going to finish the last 1.25
I drove to California and back in 2017, two 16 hour drives each way. Stopped in Colorado for a quick nap each way. Longest, but most beautiful, time I've ever spent in a car.
Driving home would be 21h nonstop for me
I used to be able to pull a 7hr drive after a full day of work but not so much these days
@obsidian burrow @clear ferry but niether of them two are hi res thou right
Well, subsonic can stream full quality, so if my downloads are the desired quality 😂
We did a 36 hour drive once to go to a wedding in Key West. Never again.
@hexed magnet UAP-AC-LITE
oh man, finally home.... traffic is a BEATING in austin right now
Pretty much the same. Crazies getting last minute gifts, getting to their families, etc
I bought 80% of my gifts the first week of December. 🙂 I HATE being stressed.
i just wanted to return stuff to kohl's to get to amazon lol
hahaha
i'm not buying anyone anything this year... we've literally furnished a new home in the last 30 days, there's not much more i can buy that would make sense 🤣
hey, take care of what's important. hope you installed CAT5 along the way 😄
even better.
🤣
fiber would be best but hey
and fiber to every room
don't have much use for that atm... but the ATT guy did it for free so i milked it
every room already has a gigabit switch, at this point my bottleneck are my disks on various systems
i stopped and got tamales from a lil food truck... can't wait to dive into them!
Merry Christmas you stinkin animals
Man... I left the garage door open today, and I just thought "Oh, I can automate that!" ... except... stupid myq...
👎
Is myq integration acting up again?
OFF TOPIC REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
off topic of lounge?
or.. what did i miss?
@peak cloud hmm maybe i spoke too soon then! i still need to mess with HA more than it detecting my zstick... In due time.. HOPEFULLY starting Thursday I can get on it
@nfgCodex#6697 off topic = I was asking if myq was acting up 😂
ah well that's my fault 😛
I was under the impression that myq was closed/proprietary based on how i've seen other integrations do it.. they literally assume ownership of your controller's serial number and add it to the myq system under their username (looking at YOU alarm.com)
Wtf is myq
MyQ is a company
that builds crummy garage automation items
I bought one and returned it a week later because the [REDACTED] PIECE OF [DATA EXPUNGED] CAN'T CONNECT EVEN RIGHT NEXT TO THE [EXPUNGED] ROUTER
so the other day I restarted FORBIDDEN TOPIC
yeah, it's integrated into the garage door operator we got with the new house
not a fan of wifi "smart" devices
esp ones that require working internet to operate
50% of the clients on my network are restricted to LAN only for that reason lol
Can you just make your own garage door opener
Esp, relay, reed switch, esphome, done
on the topic of garage door openers, what is a good company/brand?
we just got a quote for a new motor 😅
i either need to learn how to wire my house with ethernet (i am not handy) or use wifi
A small thing, but I worked out how to use macvlan to create docker containers with their own IP... So nice to not have to have so many custom HTTP/HTTPS port configurations to account for
Meh, I use a nginx container for ingress
That's true you can do that too; in my case I wanted to also host a PiHole which kind of needs its own address
Can anyone recommend a HA compatible sliding glass door lock? Preferably not wifi, like zwave/zigbee?
Actually I don't even really care that much about being able to lock it, I just want to know whether it's locked or not.
Dunno about locked, you could do open/closed easily enough
long shot, but anyone here a win10 app dev?
i mean anyone that hates on an OS doesn't understand them
almost every OS has it's place
but i'm looking for specific help with networking to a win10 app.. i think i found the culprit of my issue but not sure what i'm doing when it comes to win10 apps
@wet pilot Yeah, open closed would be pretty easy, might even be smarter to just leave the sliding glass door open and have it be alarmed when we're not home
At least then a burglar wouldn't break the glass
Yeah, locks don't really matter for a motivated criminal
I guess I'm torn on the idea of whether someone would check the back door, then give up
Maybe if they saw the cameras and an alarm sticker, but I feel like yeah they'll just break the glass
@steel urchin I am hoping with the latest sign-on stuff in Home Assistant that we might be able to somehow get myq officially supported, similar to how Amazon Key is.
is that like a partnership or something?
or that there's a 'sign on' integration point in HA now?
That there is a “sign on” integration point in HA now. But I’m pretty sure myq won’t go for it, lol.
assuming you mean like an oauth provider or something similar..
with the convos i've had with myq, they aren't very tech savvy
their solution to my issue was to replace the controller board inside the unit
rather than fix a database issue
they weren't aware they had many many thousands of serial numbers associated with alarm.com's single user, either...
@hexed magnet you could attach a small strong magnet to the lock lever
And put a reed switch near it
Ugh. Being Santa is so stressful, especially when the kids won’t go to sleep!!!
Or if you have one of the old school bracing bars you could put a door sensor on it
Also electric deadbolts on top and bottom
@peak cloud
If you're not
in bedasleep when santa comes to our house he'll end up skipping us!
Mm better
Yeah both aren't bad ideas, the bracing bar is kind of interesting.

For those with kids, this movie is watched by kids every year the last 45 years in Norway https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pinchcliffe_Grand_Prix?wprov=sfla1
Usually airs today
Is it a Christmas/holiday movie, or just airs around the same time?
There is some snow in it
But that's it 😂
The penultimate Norwegian Christmas movie is probably "Reisen til julestjernen*
And this movie is shown several times every Christmas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tři_oříšky_pro_Popelku?wprov=sfla1
The Christmas Chronicles is steadily making its way up on my list of favorite Christmas movies!
lol that's the "automation" my IQPanel has
i was looking for a heal function, but found that (and no healing)
Wow, that's way too advanced for me!
I think the kids finally fell asleep a little bit ago. I was finished setting everything up before they passed out. I got super lucky they didn't come out of the room. lol
it has association groups though, which is interesting, but confusing
i set group 2 up and when i turned the switch on it turned on the associated device
group 3 only acted when i double tapped the switch, but then it only controlled the associated device, and not the light attached to the switch
That's a nifty feature.
i was hoping to use the light switch as normal, then double tap would turn everything off
IQPanel = Z-Wave based?
it supports zwave and some wifi devices
it's garbage though
The option to shift and manage secondary controllers is interesting
And you said something about your Z-Stick not working still?
I think any Z-Wave device can be forced to leave a network and join a new network.
no it works, i tested a simple device on/off with it
i just.. haven't taken the leap yet
haha i know.. Thursday I plan on going for it with a single switch... i'm trying to understand some things first...
Aussie problems
Happy christmas
is there anyone @36c3
yes
Germania
Der Keiserreich?
My fiancee got me the Origin of Muse boxset!
Whew, good thing Ethernet was still working
Nah. I used smoke signals to send this
Thought for a sec that was a 3d print... Was gonna ask what the heck printed smoothness like that. 😄
@peak cloud That gift just shows how much they hate you. Installing that is a 1-2 hour process. Just did mine last night. Woot!
SMH
"When buying 3D printer parts. Install them before hand and then give your recipient the empty box"
HAHA
It's just like Game Consoles
Yeah it's like adult legos for real
"Suitable for Ages 25-92"
haha yeah i've seen that before. like what happens after 85? you just can't safely play with this toy?
After 85 everything becomes food
smart switch? Food. 3D Printing Filiament? Food? Live Wires? Food.
Hahahah
@brave panther I don’t mind spending the time to install the BLTouch — any tips for it?
Once you install it, you're done
Please like and subscribe if you found this video helpful
puts the pedal to the metal on that like button
Honestly no tips really. It's not difficult, just a bit time consuming. You'll probably want to get a pin 27 breakout if you don't have one, else you're gonna have to cut into the ribbon cable and do some wire splicing and joining. So I guess that's a tip. 🙂
I have 64 tips
RoboRock S50 on a major sale (cheaper than black friday) https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Global-Version-XIAOMI-Roborock-S50-MI_60622589841.html?spm=a2700.wholesale.deiletai6.10.30642c82AUeea6
I got it for $350 on black friday
Does it suck or only sweep?
not sure if that's an honest question or not
it's a vacuum, as per the name and product genre
also mops
merry christmas, you filthy animals!
just injected the turkey!
whew... thought port 443 was blocked by my ISP, but forgot to hit save on port forwarding
@steel urchin honest question. I know some robo vacuum doesn't do suction and only seep dirts into its bag
it mops!? now I'm seriously considering it
Guys... That's Alibaba
You have to order a minimum of 5
Alibaba is for buying large quantities of products
Laymao
el ay em oh
oh damn, i didn't even notice that.. i was seeing aliexpress in my head
lol sorry for the confusion
but on that note, it's still $350 on gearbest where I got it from
one caveat is if you live outside of Eu, you'll want to get a shotgun plug (the style you see connected to small power bricks) for a few bucks (i got mine for like $4 on amazon)
Aliexpress
For when you want to feel like it's the 80s and wait six to eight weeks for delivery
nah, in the 80s you never know what you were gona get, these days its hardly any surprises
Norwat
I usually get stuff with 14 days, then the occasional 2 months happen
6-8 weeks??? I get stuff from aliexpress in usually 5 or 6 days
same for wish, etc.. all the cheap chinese e-retailers
i couldn't imagine buying something so expensive and waiting that long, my mind would go out of control
@fallow belfry yes you can, and home assistant questions are not allowed here, #330944238910963714
OnePlus 🤢
I like my one plus
Jk just imitating @clear ferry
Great dev hardware
I liked my 3T
Open to unlocking and rooting without jumping though hoops
🤢
But I wanted to go back to stock so I got a Pixel XL (2016)
Yeah they have their benefits for sure
I usually run nightly lineage, but I just got it last week and haven't had time
And I lose WiFi calling on stock
Next time I will probably go Xiaomi though
Got a pi 4 for Christmas (someone knows me too well) so I think I'm gonna install pivpn on it and set up a Tasker task to connect to it when I connect to any network other than my own
I feel xiamoi are about the same
Don't get into that discussion, or I'll bring up the us companies and then we both get banned 😛
Haha
BENNED
PiVPN is awesomely simple to set up
@clear ferry DO IT!!!!!!

Every government does stuff other governments view as shady... it's called that banned topic 😛
It's called Brexit?
nah, only one gov is doing that dance 😛
@clever mortar seems like it. Would be nice to have for sure
I use it, in pretty much the way you're talking about
Connect to not an approved WiFi and it launches the VPN
Yeah I'm looking forward to getting it running
Then once pi4 supports USB boot I'll swap it with my 3B+ that I'm using for forbidden topic
Hmm?
Or is he using it for hosting pictures of dogs
*cats

boots and cats and boots and cats and...
😳
Speaking of BANNED TOPIC
How good is that REDACTED
I prefer TOP SECRET STUFF
It's VERBOTEN
I'm stuck with a baby on top of my arm who doesn't want to sleep without said arm
But my swiping keyboard lives on
Lol winning
Question: will @clear ferry manage to order a Zigbee?
Answer: Outlook Not So Good

*bluetooth
*WinRAR
"Dear Atxbyea, Your Wifi Radiation Blocker is on it's way!"
I can't remember if my zigbee sticks came in or not
I forget what I bought, received and where I put it
Did I order it, if so did it arrive, if so where did I put it?
Hey folks, looking for suggestions... We just got the kids each their own echo dots (bringing the total number of Alexa devices in the house to six). With that being the case, I need a solution that allows multiple people to stream music at the same time.
Any Spotify or Amazon Music subscribers out there who can chime in with some suggestions?
spotify family allows 6 accounts
but actually....you don't necessary need premium
so just 6 accounts?
That was our initial thought.. We did upgrade to the family plan, but it seems like only one account can be linked to our Amazon account. Is there some elegant way around that?
lol @hushed basalt that's why i made a spreadsheet
or rather, many
and trello boards 🤣
DARK MODE!!!
is it built-in?
I dunno. But that screenshot hurts my eyes lol
lol sorry for your eyes
i used to run stylish but after a while too many extensions is too many
although now that i've done most of my shopping i can get rid of some extraneous ones
probably on mobile, screen 5inches from the face, got a blast of 255,255,255 in the face
or cmyk(0%, 0%, 0%, 0%)
heh, it's a trillion dollar industry still
heh maybe not trillion really, but it's still pretty big
And printers are still awful
i did some stuff with AT&T for their flyers, billboards, billing, etc.... that shit is EXPENSIVE
one typo in a template cost 14 million
patents
and trying to still be marketable by working around said patents
ie, compatible
it's like taking every language known to man, and trying to make a single language out of it... sometimes a language has a word or character that doesn't have parity in another language, and all hell breaks loose
Some days I'm about 🤏 to losing my shit with my printer
lol
epson?
Must.post.link: https://youtu.be/dLk-3HPS12Q
actually we got a crappy lil hp 3830 for like $30... hp gives free ink now if you only print 15 pages or less a month... scans, copies, prints color... wireless. linux(cups)/win/osx all picked it up immediately without any work on our part
I have a 10 year old brother laser mfp that is still kicking
@brisk glen how did you know
I work with HP printers from time to time at my job
Add 3rd party cheap ink and well....
i never bothered with 3rd party stuff... always seemed like a racket
It's all a racket
I think sometimes it's cheaper to just buy half a dozen tablets than to deal with printers and toner and paper sometimes
Truth
I only really use my printer once a year for paper backups of my tax forms
In addition to the pdf copy
I was only using it for Amazon return labels lol
Lol
Turns out they now let you drop off at Kohl's for free, and don't need to pack a thing
@wet pilot the 8ball was right, the baby started moving and I wasn't able to order
Today is a good day to convert my Linux server docker machine to something running Proxmox with a hass.io, ubuntu server and PfSense VM in it 😋
Proxmox, Ubuntu 🤢
I have 0 experience with Proxmox and my ubuntu stuff is only used to run dockers, nothing more.
Running containers inside a VM, what could go wrong...
Not much i hope 😂
Lots of people run hass.io in a vm right, which also uses native docker for the addons? Or is that some different version of docker?
Nope, is the same
@clever mortar let's do nested hypervisors and then enable docker inside docker
Tinkerer is away for 7m 4s with a message :point_right: The path to wisdom does, in fact, begin with a single step. Where people go wrong is in ignoring all the thousands of other steps that come after it.
For science
@clever mortar containers get used in vms all the time :D
Tinkerer is away for 31m 8s with a message :point_right: The path to wisdom does, in fact, begin with a single step. Where people go wrong is in ignoring all the thousands of other steps that come after it.
Google are the anomoly who do bare metal containers and no vms. Internally
TBH, if you know what you're doing/can RTFM and Google, it's fine. There just seems to be a lot of folks who struggle
PEBKAC is strong in people
In sommeee ways it's easier to run docker in vms
Disposable OSes
Screw up, start again, rinse repeat
I want to set up coreOS on my cluster but wayy too much time investment
Need PXE services and split dns and just sigh
True, but ... troubleshooting that is what absolutely hooked me on IT
I thought that would be troubleshooting radio tubes, or punch cards
The second is easy - set fire to them to clear all bugs
For the first, apply 480V or above to reset their internal state

blasphemy
Having been "tickled" by incorrectly earthed dual-phase kit... I can tell you that it's an experience I never want to repeat
Delta legs are magic
Is that what you call your wife
LOL no worse than that
Theta legs?
yep
i am mad at her ....she got new tv for bedroom and i did not get Outlaw 5000 amp or Kliscph rear atmos speakers
Dayyyym woman, ya upset daddy, imma gonna go sobbin in mah room 🐊
i know right .... i need channels 10 and 11 for sourond sound
She's probably waiting until you can fit the 18 yards of soundproofing to stop the neighbouring state complaining 😛
😂
You have neighbors?
Not any more, they moved after his last speaker upgrade 😄
Does it count when they are 50 miles away @dull chasm ?

yamaha does not give watts per channel with all 9 driven but its gotta be close to 800 to 1k plus two subs that do 150 each
HELLO, WHAT DID YOU SAY
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
@clever mortar fried the tubes ....
i gotta mount tv on the wall today .....what fun
That sucks
Clearly needs to move, or pay an arm, two legs, and a handful of kidneys to get it installed
A bit like the UK, only we don't have your fires geography to blame
Which is total bull anyway
The street level stuff is where all the work is
And that's pretty much identical in all anglosphere countries
Obviously there's rural stuff which is a different matter
But if you have gas, water, sewage, electricity, garbage services, you should expect internet
But nobody expects the Spanish internetquisition
HELLO, WHAT DID YOU SAY
is this another UDP joke?
looks like most people didn't get it
heh
MORE LIKE A COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF WATTAGE JOKE
just wrote my first long post in the forums! Managed to figure out a few things that I hope someone smarter can come along and assist others with 😄
Mmmm, classic Christmas television on Norwegian broadcasting now
@dull chasm sounds like fun. I am actually pulling the entire ceiling down today in family room. Adding ATMOS there as well and some accent lighting.
Chess for five days
Anyone here got the Tuya PIR sensor? For the life of my I can't get it to pair using the app
If possible, I would go tuya convert
that bad hey?
Cloud stuff 🤢
Ah, yeh something we can agree on lol
Mm 6 hours of live chess every day
@tidal bronze that's on my list to do at some point
-7c outside
Above freezing in the DC area
I'm not going to bother wiring up any new speakers unless I buy a new house 😛
Which I might the next few years
The living room already has two speakers in the ceiling but one of them is in the wrong place 😒
So I'm running a 4.1 system right now 😛
@wet pilot this is my second atmos planning to to master bedroom in a few months as well. It's worth it. 😀
FL,C,FR,RR,SW
I've been looking at a 5500sqft Tirol house, if I buy it I would probably do something like that
All my bulbs are coming with me atleast 😂
Yeah, we have lived here for 10 years, but if I start working in the global team with home office I'll move North
I'd have to talk to the realtor to see if leaving it in would be beneficial at all
further north? 😱
Oslo is pretty far south, so yes, Harstad would be further north 😛
Living I run 7.2.4, this install will be 7.1.4. Master will be 5.1.2
My living room rears are already in the ceiling so I'm probably not going to bother with Atmos there
@wet pilot front/mid presence makes the biggest difference specially for spatial awareness
Fair enough. I might think about it more as I get closer to actually doing it
What avr ?
I have an overhead fan in the room so it makes placement tricky
An older pioneer that doesn't support Atmos 😛
As long as you are not running the fan 😀
Copy. With angled ceilings placement won't be a big issue.

I've got a pair of Snell speakers I bought for $30
Probably some of the best speakers I've ever had
Snell E.5 towers
Apparently they were $1500 new
I just checked an ad for identical speakers

💲 🐌 ❓
‼️

this is so weird, it feels like spring outside...
60F (15.5C) in chicago right now
Just keep denying global warming then
oh don't worry, i'm aware climate change is a thing lol
I'm a major cause according to my wife
too many farts?
Pouring rain in Phoenix, Arizona and snow in the grand canyon. That weather is heading to you @scenic radish
nooooooooooooo
Getting down to -12c tonight here
anybody get anything neat?
Lagavulin please
I should have some of that
It's nice, both the 10yo and the QC
my xmas isn't until saturday.. wife is out of town. hoping for a soldering station...
probably going to buy something exciting with the cash like a robot vacuum
@scenic radish origin of muse, guy built midipad into guitar, made heavy rock with some political undertones, pwn
Could have saved you money there pal
😛
I wonder if anyone sells/makes/has instructions for a wifi sniffer.....
Ekahau or bust
heh
already have a Tesla 😉
i want a girl with a short skirt and a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong
jacket
I'm trying to come up with a way to hack these lame cloud-connected wifi toys i have like the washing machine.....
I have to go to hazard fraught later and get a right angle adapter for my drill
@proper swift wireshark?
then I can install my stairwell illuminators tomorrow
@scenic radish Well.. eventually.. but the issue is I don't want the darn things connecting out, so I don't want to fully configure them.. though.. I imaginethey will just instantly dhcp..
restrict them to LAN only on your router?
The Mac address will for sure be on the device
Like.. usually you use some app to give them wifi creds.. ooooohhh... I can buy a second AP....
if I get an AP, wire it straight to a PI, then they are stuck
or set the PI as an AP
Probably the device won't complete the Wizard without internet anyway
So won't matter
right.. perfect.. I just want to get it on the network, and then start nmapping it for ports
I need more pi's
I have one of those LG thinq washers, and a Rheem water heater. I want to figure out how to talk to the raw device, not the foul cloud of hate.
MITM
ATTACK
Wouldn't worry about putting either of those online
no message could've been any clearer
And just sniff all traffic
if you wanna wash your clothes just hack away and write it yourself commit the
change
@scenic radish http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/fighting/face-slap.gif
I'm never sure if the stupid things will lock out a raw port once they see the cloud
I'm not sure how to factory reset a washing machine....
turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. turn on for 8 seconds and off for 2 seconds. finally, turn on for 2 seconds.
Then realise that it should have been 2.5 seconds, and try again
for those who aren't familiar... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BB6wj6RyKo
Use the first reset sequence if:
Your bulbs are running on firmware version 2.8 or later (you can find your bulb firmware version by tapping on the device in your C by GE app).
We recommend counting with Mississippi (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi, etc.).
Start...
wow. that's obnoxious
that is just dumb lol
yes it is lol
I guess it's better than doing on/off morse code to say "RESET"
think of how many flash write cycles you're using by doing this 😱
turn off for two seconds, turn on for 2 seconds, turn off and throw away
scream, cry, curse GE, throw away
When I first saw that I (reasonably) thought it was a joke
I love that there is a difference between E14 and e27 IKEA bulbs
The E14 ones require a faster on off
Took me a while to figure it out
I was almost losing my mind
cold turkey sandwiches for lunch! MMMmmmMMmm
#lunch
Lunch at 15:51
You savages

it was technically 15:51 at the time, but i also woke up at 14:30 😛
meh, i just don't really sleep
after 20 years of working 100+hr weeks i can't keep to a schedule very well
Then I got a kid, now i get up at 6am usually
i literally live by a calendar, or i'd completely ruin any interactions with the real world
lol
yeah like tomorrow i have 4 repair guys all scheduled at once so i can get them in and out asap and go back to bed if needed
Interact with other people 🤢
Mine sometime between 5.30 and 8.30
She goes to bed sometime between 7 and 8 every night
But I usually carry her over to my bed between 11 and 2 😂
can somebody help me with HACS
Lol pretty much
Our tray has a removable layer that we can wash separately
I find the ikea one pretty easy to wipe down
long live ikea
So I have a couple of the insignia smart plugs that now no longer work after Best buy killed their smart home platform. However, I noticed when you connect to the SSID they broadcast that there's a captive portal at 192.168.0.1. I can connect it to my network, but then it tries to connect to the cloud and obviously fails. It then complains and disconnects from the network. I'm thinking I could use Wireshark to find what URL it's trying to reach and create a DNS entry that resolves to something else on my network to see if it will accept that as connected.
Is this dumb? I don't even care about the plugs, I'm just having fun messing around lol
Might be worth opening one up to see what the hardware is
I can definitely do that. I read somewhere that it's not an ESP unfortunately, but I'm not sure if they cracked one open or just looked at the FCC docs
They're HomeKit compatible and I could connect them to HomeKit Python at one point, but not anymore since it drops the connection after failing to connect to the cloud
Bestbuy likely used someone else's hardware to make these
Oh yeah I'm sure they did. Guess I'll have to take a look
My first thought was tuya-convert but not if it's not an ESP
Was pleasantly surprised to see a captive portal. I connected to the network, saw the subnet was 192.168.0.x and figured "hell, might as well try 1" lol
gang gang
They actually needed a spudger today anyways lmao
A laptop I was opening to swap ram was being stubborn
so we got to use one of those lil guitar picks
and um the Anti-Static Strap was nice
I've developed a Pavlovian aversion to touching metal at work from constant static shocks
That's one of those things that you don't really need until you do and you usually find out too late
Yay I got my rpi 4 setup with interface bonding on eth0 + wlan0 and dynamic failover - I wire it to my gateway or I can unplug it and carry it around the house to do zigbee pairings. Connected to an Anker 26800 mAH power bank, it runs for more than a day.
🐟
2.6 Amp Hours?
26.8AH
x_x
2.6 is 2600mAh
returns my CompTIA A+ card
I hate that trend of measuring all batteries in mAH to make a bigger number look better
it's just kilobytes and 1000-bytes all over again
Ugh and that one guy who was charged $0.02/kB instead of $0.0002/kB like his contract said and the service rep couldn't tell the difference
Lemme find that frustrating video
Or "unlimited gigs!" For cell phone plans
UNLIMITED GIGS!~ (Throttled after 20GB to 5 kilobits a second)
Except they say "2g speeds" because most don't know what that actually is
Here it is: https://youtu.be/MShv_74FNWU
wasn't the "scam" that back in the old days 2400 baud included the stop bits?
Haha, that's pretty funny.
Not posting this for awareness........cause kick in the door or throw a brick though the window. Posting it cause it is kinda cool@and informational.

it's like the old trick in the 90's everyone was terrified of where you could read a hard drive remotely via EMF
This reminds me of those "Hackers can use microphones to hack your computer from listening to the fan noise"
from a year or so ago
the fine line between being a genius or a complete moron
I worked at a place that built their datacenter in a faraday cage because they were terrified of EMF leaking out
That's a good one
alright so i dumped the network traffic to and from that smart plug and it looks like it sends out a bunch of mDNS requests and a request to http://ns-sp1xm8-f4774967-device.aylanetworks.com/ before giving up and releasing its IP address
opened it up and it appears to be this wifi module: https://fccid.io/NHS-WSDB750GN/User-Manual/User-Manual-Rev-01-160728-3082657
so yeah, no ESP 😦
Lame
it drops it's IP?
yeah after it can't connect to the cloud (since the service is discontinued) it releases its IP
then i have to manually reconnect it to the network through the captive portal
so it doesn't allow local access without a cloud connection apparently, at least for onboarding
can you fake a dns for that to point to nothing?
well.. or a random web server
super lame
yeah i was gonna try that next. time for xbox tho lol
also try nmapping it while you have the ip
Wyze May have been breached
@proper swift only 80 is open
Problem is I can't connect them to the app anymore to sniff the traffic
Once I set up a DNS entry to go somewhere else I'll see if it stays connected, and if it does, try to pair it to HomeKit Python
No need to try to reverse engineer a local protocol when it already supports one
well i just lugged about 400lbs of stone about 150ft and now i'm 💩'd
humblebrag
You could have used your home automation system to do it
Just buy a Child from Stork Co.
They can lift upto 80lbs
and live off Fruit Loops and human misery
lol braggin i'm broken?
What kind of stone? CM11? Roofing ballast?
i honestly don't know, something along the lines of this
stole it from the builder 🤣
well, with permission, so not really stealing.. just took it from their dumping spot
it's a tad whiter... and some really cool black bricks (like your typical brick footprint)
"borrowed"
well it's a good thing, cuz we're almost over 2019 and i got my workout in
lol jk, this whole move has been a workout
Nice looking stone though
yeah, gonna lay a few at the fence gate so the dogs can't dig out (they always tend to do that at the fence, and no where else) and use the black bricks with some of that stone to make an area for the wifey to put her planters
ughh. hadashboard looks neat but I'm not sure I feel like writing 20k lines of yaml config for it...
this is friggin nuts
Track is available for purchase here :) https://neonvines.bandcamp.com/track/lay-low
Vocal Rider- The plugin responsible for keeping the vocal volume leveled and consistent throughout the performance https://waves.alzt.net/o3d29
H-Reverb- My favorite reverb plugin of all time...
sometimes I trip on my own feet when I walk
and she's over here singing, playing two 3d keyboards, handling several pads, sequencers, and loop controllers
yeah my buddy has that keyboard.. the way he makes that thing sound is insane
she's really good
Wyze breach could be super scary :S
yea, they are screwed
seems like they're on top of it at least
On top of it after the fact
A few days ago, it was reported that a Chinese government sponsored hacking group managed to hack 2FA and was actively attempting to break in to numerous institutions. 2-3 days later, Wyze gets "hacked". Maybe I'm a pessimist, but this can't be just a coincidence
nest was apparently super insecure, that's why google opted to kill that api
Wonder if that means I have reason to worry. I'm still using the old API key
I've been good about sequestering my secrets.yaml file
cloud services 😄 ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Just don't be like that one guy on the forum the other day that leaked his Gmail credentials
And lat/long with 5 sig figs
this grain of sand
wow, really?
Yup
Flagged it and tinkerer removed the original since they edited it more than 5 min after making the post
And you could just view the history lol
He posted his entire config
Was not using secrets
Genie cloud service getting hacked? lol by who?
TediGenieHackerore?
in all honesty the more of these cloud services get hacked the more likely future services will provide a local alternative option so that sales aren't tanking
hahahahaha
then you find out that genie.com is just a toliet paper monitoring service provided for Ukraine
go you lol
I can't unsee what I've seen
wow people are freaking out over at wyze
are you surprised? Wyze is the cheapest provider of web enabled cameras on the market.
this wasn't a hack as much as someone just leaving a back door open
The public won't interpret it that way
oh they aren't lol
😄
