No, it's encrypted

#

You shouldn't upload your media which is most likely pirated or against the US law

nocturne aspen
#

They may still suspend your account based on inappropriate YouTube comment or even in last T&C when you don't click enough ads online

clear ferry
#

And plex also supports offline syncing to your device, which I use when I go traveling transatlantic

boreal pewter
#

Just don't use that acc for anything else

#

I use it for mails and the Drive, that's it

nocturne aspen
#

Still quite a lot of hassle imo

boreal pewter
#

Ofc, nothing is free and if you're an Admin you always want to try new stuff and improve. One thing leads to another IMO

nocturne aspen
#

I paid on eBay around 200 pounds for Dell R710 with dual CPU shitloads of ram, Nvidia quadro for transcoding and 6 3TB drives + SSD for OS

clear ferry
#

I use the same server, paid Β£120 for it, currently have 64GB ram and 12 cores, but I have 64GB more and 12 cores more laying around, and have 4x10 + 4x4 + 4x2 in it

nocturne aspen
#

It probably costs me around 20 pounds a month in energy bills + afair 15 pounds for Crashpln

clear ferry
#

No wait, I have the 510 the 710 was too noisy

nocturne aspen
#

So 35 pounds recurring cost, but I've got two different backups in that price

boreal pewter
#

And both of you have a house to place that thing somewhere while neither of you has Gigabit and does heavy intensive external connections while on dual CPU boards and the most used CPU's for it lack heavily on single core performance?

nocturne aspen
#

And 350 one time (with a tape library )

clear ferry
#

I should replace it with a four socket 28 core per socket you mean @boreal pewter ?

nocturne aspen
#

Sure at some point one drive will fail, but then I will not just replace faulty one but upgrade all of them to 4TB which hopefully will be super cheap by then

clear ferry
#

πŸ˜›

nocturne aspen
#

@boreal pewter I'm keeping my servers in my loft

ivory jewel
#

I have gigabit at home with unlimited G Suite storage, no where near as much data as you guys have.

boreal pewter
#

@ivory jewel lol that goes fast if you want to. I already download dozens of stuff which I won't even watch just to have it

clear ferry
#

I need to test out this unlimited g storage

#

For... Educational purposes

nocturne aspen
#

And as this is HA discord I must mention that my server is great at saving and transcoding live CCTV mptioneye footage. can yours do the same @boreal pewter ?:p

clear ferry
nocturne aspen
#

Wow

#

Respect

boreal pewter
#

I haven't such since it is no usecase. But my HA lays with 29 other Docker Container on my Deskmini with an Ryzen 5 3400g, 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz CL16 RAM and a 500GB NVMe SSD

#

While my CPU usage is 2% and average load 0.40

nocturne aspen
#

@clear ferry I thought you're in the UK?

clear ferry
#

No, Norway

nocturne aspen
#

Awesome

#

Looks like my dream home (expect of the guitars)

clear ferry

But you don't see my drums or keyboards!

nocturne aspen
#

When it comes to music I'm just a consumer

#

πŸ™‚

clear ferry
ivory jewel
#

I have an AI project I want to work on which will need a lot of generic random video footage, could even be CCTV, as long as there's motion. Where do you guys suggest I get that sort of stuff?

nocturne aspen
clear ferry
#

That looked like my attic in 2002

nocturne aspen
#

lol that doesnt sound like a compliment πŸ™‚

clear ferry
#

I had dual socket pentium pros at the time

ivory jewel
#

Any legal sources of video?

clear ferry
#

With 128MB ram

#

They were awesome

#

πŸ˜›

#

I think one maybe had 512MB too

nocturne aspen
#

@ivory jewel unfortunately not many, which makes me a rebel

#

Games? Sure, you've got GOG & HumbleIndie. Ebooks, there's a plenty of non-DRM ebook sellers in my country.

#

But when it comes to music and movies, there's no way of legally buying content

ivory jewel
#

I don't need specifically movies, just video footage

nocturne aspen
#

we are being prisoners of large entertainment corporations 😦

ivory jewel
#

Of people and things moving around

nocturne aspen
#

doomed, our future generations are doomed, whole humanity is doomed when it comes to culture

boreal pewter
#

I'm pretty sure google would throw the one or another result for "live webcam"

nocturne aspen
#

😦

#

ahh, i thought we are still talking about movies

#

πŸ˜›

ivory jewel
#

Is that even legal?

nocturne aspen
#

depends on a country you are living in i reckon

boreal pewter
#

Ofc, usually every bigger town has a few live webcams from it's center which they are so proud of

ivory jewel
#

Ah, got it, thanks!

cunning pewter
#

Anyone else having issues with the unifi ui?

#

I can't seem to use their portal to hit my cloud key.

#

Eh. Right as rain, now.

#

I must have caught them on a bad day.

clear ferry
#

Zzz unifi πŸ˜›

boreal pewter
#

Never used that lol

cunning pewter
#

Also, I spent hours mitigating a DNS amplification attack yesterday -- tuning fail2ban. I was really dug in. Then it occured to me, "I bet all of this is UDP."

I blocked UDP 53 and it stopped. All that time I will never have back. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

boreal pewter
#

Idk how that can happen tho

cunning pewter
#

On the plus side, my fail2ban leveled up like four times.

#

suck it, bots. . .

boreal pewter

cunning pewter
#

Nah, man.
DNS didn't used to be like this.

#

I would say a good 50-60% of traffic is Bogus shit. If not more.

#

It's a big problem.

#

That waste in efficiency isn't to be tolerated.

#

I mean /yes/ it should be designed such that it can -- but, yeah no.

#

I'd make it my life's work if being a security professional didn't mean going to work, checking a bunch of boxes, educating the business about GDPR, and hating life.

#

Of course -- I suppose everyone dreams of being red team and ends up running reports.

#

fucking reports.

#

anyway, yeah.
Drop UDP.

boreal pewter

No, UDP for life

Looking to move from a raspberry pi. Testing libvirt using virsh. Test setup running on a Debian install in virtualbox. Bridged Network adapter. to anyone who witnessed my networking troubles on saturday, i've decided tonight i'm gonna factory reset my router to clear the arp table since there appears to be no other way. also gonna switch from 192.168.0.0/24 to 10.0.0.0/24 since it's prettier and faster to type in lol

#

that doesn't require a factory reset but that's the time to do it

Do /8 while you are at it!

More room for iot devices!

scenic radish

i'm already nowhere near 255 devices lol

scenic radish

i have, max, 25 clients on my network at any time

clear ferry
#

I lost 20+ devices after converting to docker ping

scenic radish
#

i think i've confused google wifi support lol. i asked if there's a way to clear the arp cache so i can maybe avoid factory resetting the router

#

how?

wet pilot
#

containers without the host networking flag will have their own address space within docker itself

#

or without macvlan or whatever

clear ferry
#

Because my vms had an IP each

scenic radish
#

yeah any docker container i've seen has an ip of 172.30.x.x or something

wet pilot
#

but anything outside that host isn't aware of those addresses

clear ferry
#

I should look at macvlan again

scenic radish
#

I see, thanks for patiently waiting. With regards to the ARP cache, we actually don't have access to it. Since the Google Wifi is uses network steering.

I am wanting to use smart switches and outlets. Currently, looking at the big box home improvement stores. HomeDepot and Lowes but in looking at the devices they carry and calling a few of the manufacturer's support lines it seems that those switches ONLY work if you use an APP.

What are my options, device wise, for NON APP, NON CLOUD devices?

I'm fine with if I need to go to ZWave or ZigBee ....

wet pilot

z-techs are basically the only ones that can do non-app/cloud

@supple bison basically all the smart outlets use either wifi, zigbee or zwave

Norway is the shittiest low price market, instead of a proper black Friday they give us 10% discount a whole week, then they put a limited number of items for 30-50% discount on Friday, and pretend that is ok since we get 10% all week, usually on clearance items or other bullshit

#

And usually they up the prices two weeks before, so usually it isn't a discount at all

clear mirage

That sucks. But what really sucks is when your bday is December 1st.

@clear mirage i know a girl who has birthday on December 24th

i'm actually ok with it. lights from a lower position like table lamps have a more relaxing feel

overhead lighting is task lighting in my mind

How is the waterproofing? Have you had any rain since putting them up?

unreal orbit

I've had issues with self-adhesive strips in the past

clear mirage
#

Yea its 3M brand stuff, and if you happenn to remove it really doesnt stick all that well again

Do you regret just getting RGB and not RGBW? Or has it been good enough for what you wanted?

There's a few places i have clip, mainly around where i have strip conncetors.

RGB has been fine for what i want, since i really dont plan on using a white channel

#

I would recomend 12v though becuase you get less voltage drop.

unreal orbit

I picked up an RGBW strip and honestly the way I use the stip the W just ends up complicating things. I like the option of having white, but I'm not sure it's worth it now

#

I don't think I'd have any reason to have white light all around my house, but future me might find a reason. I always worry about future me being frustrated at past me

honest geode
#

At 900 LEDs you should get large drops after just a short length

clear mirage
#

they're 12v LEDs, each 16ft strip has 300 in it

#

Total LED count is about 1200

#

btwe anyone use mcmaster-carr or anything? https://www.mcmaster.com/

Same here, thats how i found out about them I'll use them for stuff like wire and connectors, theyere shipping is actually better than prime

honest geode

900 LEDs at full blast is 54A, no way that doesn't give large drops

unreal orbit
#

They're usually pretty expensive on stuff, but the quality is good

clear mirage

@unreal orbit i agree they can be pricey on some stuff, like casters for example.

But as far stuff like wire and connectors go theyre pretty reasonable

unreal orbit

I've never really considered using them for my personal stuff, I might take a look there next time I'm doing a project

I'm curious what do you work in ?

that would be on top of the on call hours I've had, which are ((16x5)+(24x2))x11

Need to look into it one day I have time

i have 10 vacation days each year plus 9 holidays

πŸŽ‰ 😠

clear ferry

but I'm going to renovate my kitchen soon anyway

clever mortar
#

I have... 30 + about 9 or 10 public holidays

clear ferry
#

@scenic radish all norwegians get 25 days by default if you are working full time, plus my employer gives me 2 extra every year

clever mortar
#

Sucks to be in the USA πŸ˜›

scenic radish
#

it'll go up to 15 in about 1.5 years though

#

and we have "unlimited" sick days

clear ferry
#

next year will have 9 holidays

clever mortar
#

"unlimited" - so 2?

clear ferry
#

we have 12 self diagnosed sick days per year, with 3 in a row maximum at a time

#

the rest we need doctors notices for

unreal orbit
#

Oh I think I have that. "Unlimited" as in take 1 and you are unemployed?

clear ferry
#

but I haven't had a sickday in 10 years

clever mortar
#

Yeah, up to 3 days is "self cert" here, over it requires a doctors note

#

But, no real limit on the self cert days

#

You take the piss and your boss and/or HR will have a chat, but otherwise... 🀷

#

I know somebody who ended up taking about 20% of the year off sick, between one thing and another. It was all justifiable, so work was fine with it

vast dove
#

@clear ferry most decent employers in Norway provides 24 days of sick leave these days (up to 8 days x 3 times)

clear ferry
#

really ?

#

I wouldn't know as I don't do sickdays 🀣

#

I was sick three days in 2008

clear ferry

IA requires the employer to be registered for it though

#

not all are I believe

vast dove
#

Yep, but all are still allowed to offer the same "perks" at free will without any agreement

scenic radish

@clever mortar @unreal orbit nah, my work is cool about sick days. as long as you don't abuse them you're fine

Hey, not sure if this is the right channel to ask in, but I'm looking for opinions on the best WiFi or zwave switches with energy monitoring these days. I already have some WeMo and kasa switches, but when I went to look at reviews for their energy monitoring switches on Amazon they looked pretty bad. I'm also not sure if energy monitoring is more likely to work in HA via zwave rather than a WiFi switch, but I would assume that's the case. Any thoughts?

FreeNas is ugly as to setup/use

clear ferry

Also closed source is a dealbreaker for me

hushed basalt
#

Yeah that's a bit iffy

clear ferry
#

and you have to pay to use unraid πŸ€”

hushed basalt

Does unraid have copy on write, self healing etc

#

I don't mind paying, unless it's enterprise level pricing

clear ferry

I would have to pay the top dollar for my setup, not interested

its like $90 one off

hushed basalt

You could just have less data cough datahoarder cough

clear ferry

$129 for the top one

hushed basalt
#

How much is your time worth though :)

#

Spare time awake especially

quartz ether
#

UnRaid is free for 6 weeks. Give it a go, it is actually the best for simplicity and use. Drive fails just put in a new one and it repairs. Data is also emulated during the rebuild so no down time.

clear ferry

My spare time ? I have so much spare time I could sell it

#

no idea what I would do if I didn't have a job 🀣

quartz ether
#

I am playing with a FreeNas setup at the moment to see if I can make use of it as a plug and play storage for someone. But just setting it up is a pain.

clear ferry
#

FreeNAS has a high threshold, but I prefer that to paying, closed source, limited software 🀣

#

also I've learned a lot of BSD from it, so that is great for my worklife \ paycheck also 🀣

quartz ether
#

UnRaid has WAY more plugins and apps then FreeNas

clear ferry

I don't use plugins, I create jails and install software 🀷

the myq is $20, if there's no other fees that's worth the price of entry imo

ahh right

#

i just saw it come up on slickdeals and considered it

clear ferry

I run a Wemos D1 Mini with a reed sensor and a relay, plus 230-5v step down converter, so all in all it cost me $5 to make

i dont even park my car in there, i have a big driveway so the garage is becoming my workshop

I have room for 9 cars in my driveway though
