Anyone here using HassOS on a NUC and have bluetooth problems? I don't know if that a problem from the NUC, or HassOS, or HassIO oder HA but about every 10th restart I lose connection to all of my bluetooth devices (thermostats, plant sensors and light bulbs) at once and have to restart HA again. The life of my plants is relying on bluetooth. What do you think could be the cause? Save my plants!

github integration only give you sensors

scenic radish

i have special passwords

unreal orbit

I secret pretty much everything. Including local ips (admittedly a paranoid step)

scenic radish
#

yeah probably don't need to do that lol

unreal orbit
#

I still don't trust that I didn't miss something

scenic radish
#

i mean, i use secrets for certain things i don't need to, like the long strings for IR commands

#

but that's so i can easily refer to them without copying the entire string

#

like in scripts

unreal orbit
#

Half my setup is dependent on node-red, so the HA config by itself is pretty pointless

#

Ow, my eyes

scenic radish
#

ah gotcha. haven't used node red, built-in automations work well for me

#

lol i never really cared much for dark themes anymore after android lollipop

unreal orbit

I do lots of things that aren't possible with yaml

#

scenic radish
#

makes sense

@wet pilot you mean you don't like 10 levels of nested condition: and and condition: or?

unreal orbit
#

jinja templates definitely would not solve the things I would need

wet pilot
#

no, you just handle it in more advanced programming via templates

scenic radish
#

jk

wet pilot
#

@unreal orbit fair, just giving noise. i moved to appdaemon instead

scenic radish
#

my automation wants are pretty simple i guess

unreal orbit
#

It's not even just automations. Just logic for certain things I do

#

Like a dynamic reminder system

scenic radish
#

ah interesting

#

i was just about to ask for some examples

unreal orbit
#

I have an input text and an input select that lets you type a reminder and the gps zone you want to be reminded in

#

Then a button that fires an event to "save" the reminder

#

everything gets stored in node-red vars. Dynamic complicated arrays are basically impossible with HA inputs

scenic radish
#

O I C

wet pilot
#

i wanted a way to re-use my logic in multiple automations

scenic radish
#

that's cool

wet pilot
#

for my fan speed automation and handling of double-tap events

scenic radish
#

@wet pilot Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V πŸ˜‰

wet pilot
#

and then cry when you want to change a threshold for all of them

scenic radish
#

input_number boi

#

jk i have no clue what you're specifically talking about lol

unreal orbit
#

node-red has subflows, which lets you reuse whatever flow you want and you can set dynamic options for any data

#

In the newest update subflows are crazy powerful

scenic radish
#

that's pretty cool

wet pilot
#

i'm not a fan of JS or GUIs so i didn't care to look at nodered

scenic radish
#

tbh i'm looking forward to the scene.create and scene.apply services

unreal orbit
#

Not liking JS is fine, but people get way too hung up on the UI thing. That's like 3% of what node-red is about

wet pilot
#

@scenic radish those are in 101

scenic radish
#

functionality that existed in node red that was basically impossible in yaml automations

#

wut

wet pilot
#

@unreal orbit its not that i'm against UIs, i just don't care about them

scenic radish
#

the SOTU made it sound like an upcoming feature

#

or i just misunderstood lol

wet pilot
#

so it wasn't a draw. and if i'm going to be writing code anyway, i'd much rather use python

unreal orbit
#

I come from a C# background so JS was a lot easier for me to learn than python. Still not a huge fan of python, but I get why people use it

scenic radish
#

i come from a BASIC background so everything is confusing

unreal orbit
#

I dare you to write your automations in BASIC

scenic radish
#

lmao

#

challenge accepted

unreal orbit
#

that would be a fun month where nothing gets accomplished at the end

wet pilot
#

GOTO

scenic radish
#

syntax error

#

day 31... i've finally created an automation in BASIC that turns my lights on at sunset

#

now to convert my other 99 automations

unreal orbit
#

Oh yaml automations also don't allow queuing for the same automation. I use that in a few places

scenic radish
#

wut u mean?

unreal orbit
#

Like an automation is triggered and if it triggers again it will wait till the first run is finished before firing

scenic radish
#

oh gotcha

unreal orbit
#

And, one of the most important features IMO, you can add nodes for various services without having to restart node-red. Telegram notifications, google api nodes, socketio, discord, local alexa, etc. all can be added without fear of breaking the rest of my currently running shit

#

alright, I'll stop now πŸ˜›

scenic radish
#

we get it, you like node-red, damn

#

πŸ˜‰

#

that is indeed nice

ebon meteor

wet pilot

ebon meteor
#

Hi. My name is Keith. It's been 15 days since my last IFTTT script broke...

#

Actually, there is ONE script that I still run, nightly to send a note to my damn HOA so I can park two cars in my driveway (don't get me started). I have to utter the stupid words to Alexa, nightly - "trigger notify HOA". Once I get presence closer to reliable, I'm gonna fire it off automatically.

velvet horizonBOT
#

As an alternative to HA built-in bluetooth tracking, the monitor script uses separate devices, usually Pi Zeroes, to track bluetooth devices.
It uses MQTT topics to relay device status messages to HA. See this forum thread for more.

clever mortar

That's awesome for presence detection

There might be some further information about where the stream is and such but I'm not sure if home assistant supports m3u?

Found one of me when I restart HA for the 9th time after adding something and it still errors out because I forget a single indent somewhere

Yeah, I was battling "missing" entities today after a restart, and more restarts

Then I realised I'd commented stuff out while messing with it

does github charge you to run the PRs in their system?

So is there an HA app for Android? Been a while since I've messed with this

Nope, just the installable PWA

There is a native app in development. It will be released eventually probably

but no promises πŸ˜‰

I got my new toy today. An ecovac deebot ozmo 960. It has a camera with object detection built in that surprisingly actually works.

It will be interesting to see if sucks works with it. I think they have the 900 working, so hopefully it works.

@unreal orbit installable pwa?

If you open your HA url in Chrome you can add it to your home screen. It installs it like a native app, but it's basically just a browser window

low linden
#

anyone know of a really flexible modular whole home audio / video solution ?

#

as in, multiple inputs, multiple unique outputs to multiple different zones, simultaneously

#

even the expensive things I look up are just stupid ridiculous, single audio input, multiple audio ouputs for thousands on thousands of dollars

#

I know that I could buy an hdmi -> ethernet transmitter and receiver for about $50 a piece, then you just add an additional transmitter per device you want to control, and another receiver for any place you want to receive some video, just grow it up at $50 a pop until you're done, super easy and convenient from infrastructure point of view, but not from flexibility

#

I'm now thinking, I want to have my laptop hooked up in the living room, I get up and go to the bathroom, imagine having a display in the mirror or something that you push a little button next to the light switch and it just starts outputting whatever is on that channel

#

(extreme example of course), what's not extreme however is I found a way to get all my media transmitters into my garage with my networking rack fine and dandy, then hopping them across ethernet to various rooms, yeah, no problemo. But interactivity then starts becoming a pain

#

I need every room to be both a receiver and transmitter... Say someone wants to play some Xbox, I'd be like "oh yeah, just go plug that into the garage, then run controllers out to the living room, if they'll reach (they won't) or use wireless ones (that will work like crap)

#

so, I'm thinking some kind of mesh system, where you can put an input or an output anywhere, and it'll tie into the existing system, any output can output any input, there's gotta be a way, my house already has so much ethernet running through it an earthquake couldn't rip it apart

#

I could technically stack these hdmi to ethernet receivers and transmitters on top of eachother, but they have little dipswitches on them to set their group, so you'd have to have each transmitter on another group, then flip the switches on the receiver to be on the correct channel basically

#

that's as close as I can come to it I think. Where each zone has a transmitting channel, then knowing what channel it is, you'd flip dips on the receiver to get your input from it (could digitize the dip flipping with lots of bibbly bobs to make it hands free)

#

they say, don't use these things on the same network as your data though for some reason (does it flood the network?)

#

isn't there some dumb board out there on ebay that has an hdmi and ethernet port on them to get the price lower? Maybe something that already has digital channel switching ?

#

maybe use something other than ethernet? Wireless sounds lame

#

mainly because of channel saturation and interference, "great, the tv is cutting out cause suzy is microwaving something"

#

hdmi cables themselves doesn't sound very good because I'd need to run two cables from every zone, to every zone for this to work, and I have 9 zones here, so that would be 81 cables in order to play anything in any room from any room

#

it would be awesome if there was like a little raspberry pi like device, that has an hdmi in, and would stream the video signal over gigabit ethernet, just simple as that. Then another little rpi like device that would take one of those streams and turn it back into hdmi output

#

like if someone made an rpi hat that did hdmi out, I know my little rockchip soc can handle 4k 60fps no problemo, but I don't have one that does hdmi in

#

yeah, uncompressed hdmi is a huge bandwidth hog, it'd be great to convert it to a nice compressed h624 or even something like vp9 and then send it over the network, then the receiving device could convert it back with a bit of loss, not too bad

#

and can add an hdmi input to a raspberry pi for over $80 or so using a card that plugs into the camera port on the pi... Except it's slow and 1080p, I'd like this to be able to handle 4k at some point

#

oh, and just tossing out there... No audio

hushed basalt
#

I'm not sure what you're gaining @low linden

#

Over a simple modern plex system

#

And just a console where you expect to use it

#

Or steam

#

H265 over IP encoders/decoders could do a bulk of what you want

#

But the cost is extreme

#

And HDMI matrixes are extremely priced as well

#

There's a reason all this stuff is really expensive.

#

Video is really hard.

#

Consumer stuff is only cheap because of scale and lack of QC

#

Plus lag on h26x encoding/decoding would be nuts.

Source, we use h265 encoders at work.

#

Plex and steam clients are cheap and proven

@clear mirage how did you set up notifications with the android app?? mine just says "requires ssl enabled for frontend" even though i do...

clear mirage

@scenic radish i well once i got the app set up, in my devices there's my phone "Alex's Samsung SMxxx" and n the call serivces theres a option for notify.[devicename] and in the service data you have to have message: then what you want to say.

mental garden
#

@low linden I'm with badtelcotech. That is way overcomplicating things. I'm going to be building a large two story next year and plan on putting speakers in almost every room so I can stream music. No way would I spend the money on distributed video though. I believe in keep it simple stupid. It would be way easier and cheaper to just buy several xboxes than it would to try to route video all over the place.

unreal orbit
#

What does it say the integration is @clear mirage ?

low linden
scenic radish

@unreal orbit it comes up as a mobile app

@low linden that's pretty cool!

I would love to do that some day.

low linden

@hushed basalt the cost may not be that extreme if I can just find an SBC with HDMI in. Would cost about $1k to have the entire house media working

unreal orbit

It says "mobile app" is the integration?

scenic radish

oh i don't have mobile_app: in my configuration.yaml, that might be why

clear mirage
#

@scenic radish your welcome. nice to know that im not the one asking for help this time

low linden
#

I'm going to try and hook up a raspberry pi zero WH to a 3.5" LCD behind a regular beauty plate that runs a lightweight web browser to a react app that does the mqtt commands to do things like turning lights on and off, with a series of little buttons for intercoms, what's silly is you could stream your front porch camera actually inside the light switch

#

wait no, 2.5"

#

got a few of them ordered to see which works the best, might have to modify the beauty plate to squeeze a bit more resolution out of it, haha

mental garden
#

Yea, I looked into doing that too. I think a cat5 drop and a POE adapter could power it.

low linden
#

the 120 power is right there, so might as well just tap into that

#

(although don't trust the protection circuits at $2.05)

#

they work pretty well for hooking up relays to things like my bathroom with shower, I have a dht11 to kick the exhaust fan on when it gets humid in there. I've got 4 little MQ-4 methane detectors to see if I can detect when someone takes a big crap in there and stinks the place up, to kick the fan on too, but that's a really hard one to test

#

can't just make some methane whenever I feel like it

mental garden
#

Haha, that's an interesting idea.

low linden
#

does anyone do service monitoring around here? I've got a whole ton of daemons and servers and such, and I was using the command line binary sensor, then converted it to a non-binary sensor with a ping result to see not just whether a service is up, but how quickly it responds, but it seems like HA eventually forgets about running these commands over time

#

maybe I'm wrong, I just went and checked on them, the little numbers are flipping about
