depends on what you do. Intel is still probably the best choice for a pure gaming pc
have an I5-7600K in front of me Was until my AiO died decent enough
but finding an proper 1155 mainboard is getting hard
motherboards tend to die long before the cpus so the used market ends up unbalanced after a few years
AMD ll use the AR4 socket at least untill next year
chances are high that I go for the amazon choice..
https://amzn.to/34sA4DP (mainboard)
https://amzn.to/34yYCL4 (processor)
then only a cooler would be missing
would love this one after LinusTechtipps hold it up high
f. it.. bourght it.. but the Ryzen 7 3700x
after its sent by amazon directly
Is anyone aware of a device that will accept an HDMI signal with a network RJ45 port on it that will then forward the signal across my local intranet?
Kind of like the HDHomerun does with over the air TV signals...
You can get extenders that'll extend it over an RJ45 cable, but not over a network that I know of
Trying to just think out of the box for my wife. She wants to be able to monitor the security cameras from in the house, not from the Blue Iris server in the shop. I can always buy another Blue Iris license, but if theres a work around, that'd be sweet!
It's definitely legit, but there has to be a way to distribute that feed over my network lol
Which would also prevent excess data usage since its local
There is a web server, but that ties into the data usage factor
Remote desktop, meh
It does, its streaming to the monitor out in the shop. I've already played around and split the HDMI signal and sent it to the TV in the shop...but man, over the network would be legit, since the whole house is wired cat6 already
Aaaaah.
I just need an HDHomerun with an HDMI in, instead of coax lol
Shows up on any of the networked smart TV's in the house.
I guess the extender makes most sense, just figured there’s a better mousetrap
NewTek Connect Spark
Only 5 bills ha
next
newtek/NDI stuff is crazy expensive
I just pulled the trigger on some cable matters extenders. Should work just fine.
Is there a way to view the cameras over IP
Like I can view our cameras on the apps/rtsp
I can also add them into homeassistant
dont understand that is ip
Uh
IU think what you need
is a device that grabs the RTSP feed
and has a video output that can plug into the TV
yes?
@rapid musk you are looking into HDBaseT
Never heard of it
HDBaseT, promoted and advanced by the HDBaseT Alliance, is a consumer electronic (CE) and commercial connectivity standard for transmission of uncompressed high-definition video (HD), audio, power, home networking, Ethernet, USB, and some control signals, over a common categ...
Unless you basically want to multicast a tv signal
But if you just want to monitor camera feeds, there are many other far better solutions
Such as having motioneye connect to the cameras
FML, where was that when I ran 8 50’ HDMI cables in my crawl space a few years back haha
That’s legit it provides power too. Dang, always something better out there
Usually I do a ip camera with POE
How does a modern TV with a built in transformer handle the power coming in the network interface?
The tv does not handle it, a box does
All my cams are PoE wired to a Ubiquiti switch
So then what is your end goal again?
Just to distribute the blue iris servers console footage to additional monitors in the house.
Far easier to use something like motioneye central server and listen on the stream via a web browser
But that was BEFORE you came in and dropped that bomb. Maybe I’ll get rid of all my HDMI cables and that awful 8 port splitter in my crawl space
Is the web browser local? Or remote?
As in data usage or no?
Local
so is blue iris web server
Supposedly these extenders I bought, the transmitter can be plugged into the switch and all the network drops are capable of receiving the stream with a receiver on the other end of the drop
The blue iris web server, from my understanding, is only accessible using my outside world IP with the configured port added, and the correct credentials. I don’t see how that wouldn’t use data, even if the console viewing is in the local intranet
I haven’t tried accessing it using the local up
localipofmachine:port
Heh
Dammit! Haha
Thanks guy. Now to keep the extenders or return to amazon once they arrive
Hmm
return get something usefulll LOL
Now if I can just figure out where the timeout setting for UI3 are on the server
Maybe it won’t time out on local like it was on the outside IP
Although I do dig the idea of having any display in the house able to show the cams
Forget computers, I can view any camera from my phone
And I can as well, but having it on display would be handy. We both have the blue iris app installed on our phones. Notifications, clips, the whole 9 yards
And nope, even the local web server stream times out. Gotta find that setting in the server
To “save resources”. They’re my resources...locally
I wonder if there will be new bugs found if hass can ever reload its config without restarting. My uptime. https://www.screencast.com/t/Ua5va0Ov
panic is simultaneously watching ha.log and OZW.txt when suddenly all of your automations and buttons start firing off for seemingly no reason.
Apparently, that is how my wife figures out which Homekit button adjusts the hallway light...
For a brief moment, my house looked like a scene out of Close Encounter of the Third Kind.

is there someone using adguard ad blocker here?
do you know if it blocks youtube ads?
It even works if you google "is there someone using adguard ad blocker here? do you know if it blocks youtube ads?"
I found pihole simplier and fancier tho
I run pihole and use brave browser, between it its pretty solid
I enjoy commercials!
What is insane though is watching kids stuff on YouTube, my daughter was watching the night garden on YouTube the other day, in the iPad app it was every 3 minutes, for a 30 minute episode, on Roku it is only before the first episode, after that it will play for 7 hours without any commercials
we thank you and your daughter for watching so many commercials so the rest of us can keep blocking them
I still fight Plex and rclone
hello everyone, if i reboot my MQTT broker (mosquito) i lose my entities in HA , until i reboot them as well , can i somehow turn off this feature ?
Quick question before i start putting more time in to this custom component, does anyone know if someone has already made a http_request service custom component
@tame cove sounds like persistance isnt setup
#the-water-cooler For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related
you could disable discovery and anually configure the entetys yourself
something like webhooks?
No, its a generic request service(its basicly exposing requests as a service)
@tame cove publish a blank status topic to them and they will report their status again... but why are you rebooting the broker anyway?
Hi David , i indeed shouldnt reboot but i had a power outage and saw that i had to reboot all the sonoff devies
Hi all, I am looking for some assistance with regards to rtsp streams. 1. I cannot get the Lovelace picture entity to show my stream. I have added a generic camera in my configuration.yaml (URL I used can be viewed in VLC) and then configured the card as per the HA documentation but it just does not stream or show anything, empty card and loading when I click on it. Any ideas?
P.S. I am fairly new to HA - Running Hass.io on a VM
#cameras-archived @lost zinc
you find there tricks like using the android app Onivfer to find out the right URL
@hearty depot , I have the correct URL as I can view the feed in VLC and the MotionEye add on. Its the direct feed in Lovelace which is just not working
what format is it?
It probably is the not-in- #the-water-cooler format
👆
Only cheezburgrs and kittens here
The cat is sadly dead though
But it started a franchise
I just got passed be a Ferrari 512TR
One of the strangest cars I have ever seen
It was in some kind of surf blue, which made it look even stranger
And it got a german number plate
And use question marks when asking a question 🤷
oh yea @boreal pewter
finnaly orderd my parts
I just only hope they can be stuck together 😓
Sure they can if they're in the upper class
took your advice and changed to an AM4 system
Just was to much pain to find a propper 1155 mainboard
I honestly don't care much about my Mainboard. I usually take an cheap ASRock 80 buck one, like a Pro3 for my old 1155 and now a Pro4 B for the current AM4 system. Since you don't OC Ryzen anyway it will work just as well as any 160 bucks mainboard
Just the RAM should be expensive 😄
IO was my cild of worry - so many mainboards with only usb2
lol Mine has enough USB3 tho
and the proper ones costed about 140€ 😛
but already on building an Micro-ATX for the now unused I5
not shure if it is an good idea to order mainboards from Ali xD
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33009932631.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.2c0078da1atSmG&algo_pvid=f1baa41c-aebe-4f29-8ee9-6e9f01adfd7f&algo_expid=f1baa41c-aebe-4f29-8ee9-6e9f01adfd7f-1&btsid=a5139af8-e7a0-49ba-be0b-63da68adbdae&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_10,searchweb201603_53
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
As said I have above for 80 bucks and it has everything needed
Never forget what the Mainboard connects to, any storage, CPU, GPU. Everything it connects to can it possibly break... so no... 80 bucks for a common known mainboard shouldn't kill you
MSI isnt known well? I liked the 4 usb3.1 slots
Sure, never said else, did I? It just sounded like you wanna save as much money as possible and therefor the Asrock is probably the cheapest usable one around
eehh - was the initial idea - Now I paid 350€ for the processor allone 🤣
Even that is cheap considering the current 3xxx I would get are 500+
I was happy with my old I5 actually - I just hope I can play Cyberpunk with the Ryzen 7 3700x 🤞
Depends on your RAM, RAM OC, Cooling in regards to the AMD PBO settings and the used Engine of the game
it's funny how that changes at times. When I got my cpu 8 years ago, it was the common practice to get the cheapest ram you could find as it made so little performance difference. Few years later, things had changed and even for a gaming PC it was worth having fairly fast RAM
not sure how it is now with the newer ones
Well if it was now about to get an i7 you can just get any cheap <100 buck 2600Mhz Ram
But Ryzen is very specific here
Even I saved money on this case only took common 3200Mhz CL16 RAm, not too bad but not good either
It maybe works but you won't be happy, just saying before you cry it's so slow 😛
used market is pretty good with memory so if you have issues, it might be worth swapping those
Its possible that theyre good ones..?
When they were used with an intel, barely. Barely people on an intel went on buying high Mhz RAM. And I'm not even sure if you build that yourself, it rather sounds like it is a ready-to-go one and then.. well definitely not lol
MTA8ATF1G64AZ-2G3H1
lol were all german guys?
around 3000MHz seems to be enough for Ryzen 7
no, but ich verstehe ein bisschen and that's what I found with my first google search
fufufufu 2400 MHz
Yep really terrible common Intel Ram
I think when I was buying mine exactly a year ago, Samsung B-Die RAM with 3200Mhz+ and at least CL16 was 240€?
So I just didn't take Samsung B-Dies and paid 130 or 140 :/
Comeooon 🙈
And as said, for the CPU OC itself to get a higher per core Ghz for Games which don't at least support 8 cores you want to get the best cooling you can get
this one is already on the way https://amzn.to/2HVkiY8
Also case cooling and such
just ordered a HUSBZB-1 and some xiaomi temp/humidity sensors
time to get a bunch of other zigbee/z-wave shit i don't need
I limited myself on this building a quite system so mine is a be quite and I get almost 10° cooler putting the front plate off lol
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-3000-best-memory-timings,6310.html <-Here's a good article as well, taking latencies in to consideration.
3200MHz C16 seems like a good compromise, but I didn't check the prices
Why I orderd the Noctuna
https://youtu.be/23vjWtUpItk?t=393
I like this guys xD
Thanks, World of Tanks for sponsoring today's video! Use invite code TANKTASTIC at https://tanks.ly/2U1zt9C and get a T-127 Tank, 500 Gold, and 7 Days Premiu...
I took the 1,1KG Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 😛
is it safe to wash electric cars?
shit, brb
75€ for a 16GB set of 3200MHz. I'd probably just get those Underknowledge if you can get rid of the 2400 ones for a decent price
actually just searching for an micro-atx for a new HA host instead 🤣
upcicleing
got the old 1155 processor also here bietet sich doch an
What 75 bucks? Never
Yeah I thought so
Still 130 buddy
@scenic radish you should see the water cooled server racks I install then 😛
@hearty depot
you're looking at tRCD for some reason and not tCL: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=ramddr3&xf=15903_DDR4~253_16384~254_3200
Lol buying hardware 😂
I wonder then how much the cheapest B-Die would be then 😛
I get confused again 🤣
aah Why there must be so many diffrent ones
You can easily OC an b-die from 3200 to 3400
you could just buy 3600 for 10€ more you know 😉
Maybe I can find out within the next hour what that could be, there Forum Threads of collections of known B-Die Ryzen RAM
but there was something special about the b-dies I think that made them better
come on, just download some more RAM
it's free
can't believe no one has mentioned that
overusedjoke.jpg
lol I just read that the B-Dies are discontinued tho
but you need to have ram in the first place😉
Damn A-Dies gonna be interesting
Probably then 500 buck a kit lol
Here is a site I found @hearty depot https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/
Speed 3200, CAS 14, Size 16 could be affordable
F4-3200C14D-16GFX
https://geizhals.de/?fs=F4-3200C14D-16GFX &in=
maybe next year they'll release something worth upgrading my i5 2500k to... Been checking every year for 6 years now 🤔
So many Articels to read - I dont even understant the diffrences yet xD
B-Die is very well overclockable in the first place
Big MHz gut, low CAS values gut. Bigger = Besser.
tl;dr you'll gain a few percentage in games if you swap your 2400MHz to something a bit faster
A few FPS*
@shy comet I didn't want to have deep conversation in the #330944238910963714 channel and certainly didn't want to get yelled by @light trout 😛
is there a monthly subscription? I already have a VOIP subscription wit Vonage
I still have a home phone, kept it mainly for the number, and it never rings. We use that to make international calls only
no monthly subscription, it uses google voice which is free in the US for calling
so you don't even need vonage?
guys, quick question
would this be correct file_path: /config/fail2ban.log if the fail2ban.log file is located in /config
yes, that's how file locations work
weird then, since HA is through a config error
maybe ill restart manually and try it
thanks mate
Maybe try posting the error message, and maybe try asking for home assistant assistance in #330944238910963714 😉
There is a homeassistant user? lol well they just got pinged
lmao 😛
@last plaza i ditched vonage in favor of obihai
@unreal orbit It is I, Home Assistant.
Big fan, first time pinger
but i hardly know her
I think this server would benefit from a #dad-jokes channel
That technically goes in this channel
But I only had dad jokes even before becoming a dad
Does that make my jokes grandad jokes

Those were dad-in-training jokes

dad jokes?
Who's Irish and stays out all night..?
<irish accent> Patty o'Furniture</irish accent>
booooooooo
<ducks>
🍅
<dodges>
dodge that
I've got 5 kids, and 3.5 grandkids... the dad-joke is strong with me.
and groan-worthy
One in the oven?
9yo, 15 months, 12 months and one on the way
I was going to make a sick joke, but...
same lol
I'm trying to be less mean to others
How's that working out 🤣
They're only aggressive when I use the pointy letters
?
THIS. IS. AS. ANGRY. AS. DISCORD. MESSAGES. CAN. BE.
🇦 🇳 🇬 🇷 🇾 ❗
hmm. that's one sour puss
🇺 🇷 🇦 🇳 🇴 🇴 🇧
@scenic radish YOU. @scenic radish CAN. @scenic radish ALSO. @scenic radish AGGRESSIVELY. @scenic radish PING. @scenic radish PEOPLE. @scenic radish
Need a bot to do that right
Actually, need a bot that can create bots, so that the victim can't block the bot
there it is
That's just diabolical
Nah. diabolical would be doing that every second
I assumed it would be
Actually, diabolical is doing that in bursts, at random intervals anywhere from a few minutes, to days apart
{% if now() == now() %}
Ping
{% else %}
Ping
{% endif %}
Then the victim never knows if it's stopped, or just on a long delay
MORE CAPS BOYS
Bursts of anywhere from one, to 50, with delays between those too
goodness
Just so you wind them up with waiting, and wondering if another one is coming...
No thought in that, it's just psychology
And stealing from history, psychological warfare has a very long history 😄
Then again, I was a system admin for some years, mind games kind of comes with the territory
It's amazing how much damage one could do with very limited technical knowledge
I think that in itself proves that most people aren't terrible
i remember making one of my teachers in middle school freak out when we sent a message to his computer with net send lol
Or they are just more lazy than terrible
Borrow and copy somebody's car keys. Every so often, at random, tweak the mirrors and/or seat so that it seems like they're getting taller/shorter, tilting left/right.
Over a period of weeks you'll drive them crazy
i'll take one from the office and slowly add coins to someone's handset, then remove them all one day
I used to have an account on a T3 connected site, could ping folks off irc... back in 1993
heh drive them crazy?
oh no... Tinkerer is/was a BOFH?
Bwah hah hah
𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓼𝓱𝓸𝓾𝓵𝓭 𝓾𝓼𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓼𝓮 𝓲𝓽𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓬𝓼 @clever mortar
mind the cattle prod... and the carpet and lime
no more than usual
Well, it looks like the android companion app was an April fools joke after all 😛
:(
Anyone else excited for the borderlands 3 release?
Gaming! Who has time for games when you could be debugging Esphome errors!
I'm not one for gods or anything ...but man. THANK GOD FOR DOCKER. I just upgraded Zoneminder on an old server.
I'm trying to wire up my first zwave switch... why am I so afraid of electrical work lol
@hushed basalt solid point
@modest sentinel probably because electricity isn't a joke and it can kill you. But just shut off the power, verify it's off, and you'll be ok
well, just my luck I got all the switches pulled out and started identifying wires and whatnot, and the sky turned black and it started to storm. Couldnt see, so I just stuffed them back in the box
if a handyman will do them all for cheap I'll just go that route, it's kind of cramped dealing with all the wires hah
Curious what you guys would do to solve this situation: I have two separate lights for my back deck. One from the dining room, one from the master bed. Ideally turning one on would turn the other on, or at the very least turning the dining room on turns the bedroom on. Without completely rewiring, I guess I could replace the dining room switch and either the master bedroom switch, or just a spare smart bulb, and have an automation that the master follows whatever happens to the dining room?
Be lazy and use smart bulbs
Smart bulbs are lazy but not ideal
Best solution is some sort of smart switch on both
And then an automation in HA or nodered to make them trigger together
👍
@hushed basalt yea. the whole smart bulb thing is kinda a mess. we need switches that integrate better with bulbs. new business opportunity.
I am a fan of dumb lights with smart switches
Otherwise you can use smart lights and smart switches and do everything in HA/nodered etc

@clear ferry you once watched me playing Civ6 and found the music ggood enough for your 69 years old ears
I got this for ya
I haven't played civ since civ2, but I always preferred colonization
But nice choir 😀
I just needed something of that kind in compensation to a C&C so it was Civ6
And since my Steam Region is always Russia I got that game with almost all DLC's for cheap enough
Red Alert / Red Alert 2 4 lyfe
But colonization is jolly fun, I often pull it out and play it in dosbox
Yeah, pls remade in proper HD and a good official multiplayer and I'm back on this
And Ufo enemy unknows, and terror from the deep
Waiting for the "remake" which many ppl assume
RA2 is the game I have the most hours over all in 😁
Anyone know of an automation that lets you change the brightness of lights that are currently switched On?
wrong channel, #330944238910963714 is for these questions. However, you should be able to just call light.turn_on again with different attributes
Brightness it's it's own attribute which you can set with an integer tho...
Howdy guys. Realllllly new to this and not reaslly sure where to post my questions as they're no doubt very basic. Just got my first RPi3 this week. and got myself an esp32 as well.
I've got Hass.io installed and ESPHome. Ive connected a DS18B20 temp sensor to my esp32 and managed to get it to connect to my wifi. but thats as far as i've gotten. Everything i've looked up doesnt tell me how to get the esp32 to talk to the sensor or anything. I have a feeling I may be missing something. I've litterally only started this this week, so am extremely new. Where should I be posting my questions up?
@stone grove #551843558676758569 #diy-archived #330990055533576204 and #330944238910963714 is the channels you need 🎉
#diy-archived for the esp32 questions first mayhaps
CHeers, @clear ferry ... I'll throw something up in the #diy-archived section. Appreciate the help!
shell question wich is borthering me for a while.
just playing with bash, a json api and JQ.
is it possible to use curl, pipe it into JQ and reuse the just runned curl again?
cụ̣̣rl »| jq
»| jq
I mean I could save it to an file and && the command
But where would be the fun there 😛
Thanks - will do
Just run the curl again. Slam that rest api hard
Make them work for their concurrency limits
Or have them setup propper caching headers
CURLOPT_FRESH_CONNECT
named pipes are almot identical as saving it into an file 🤔
wouldnt be an issue to curl it again - but where would be the educational progress
But yeah seriously just use a file
How big is what you're expecting back
You could also do it in nodered
I just try figure things out. JQ is just awesome.
just 10kb or so - prittey much nothing
Hehe - tee too xD
paying a proper amount to spotyfy - Or tricked into turkey or the philipines?

lol Spotify is not so easy in tricking anymore. Not worth it IMO
They even don't allow my mother in my family account those retards
There is still Deezer - but their 'Flow' suck
https://rackstuds.com/2018/03/12/eu-winter-too-cold-for-our-bags-oops/ Damn EU weather 😄
I have a family account with one for my wife and one for me and one for a public music playing tablet for guests 😛
@strange vapor wtf
Things you don't think about when exporting from southern hemisphere to northern 😄
Rackstuds are awesome
They are, but cold in NZ vs cold in Scandinavia are slightly different things.
yeah do the major NZ cities even get under freezing?
Any thoughts if a 0,5 constant mqtt update is too much for what mqtt is designed for?
Don't talk to me about cold you Aussie nuggets
32 degrees yesterday
That's cold, compared to the sun
One thing your Northerners do that shits me off
Is saying things like "Coming this fall"
Ergghhh, you do realise that 50% of the globe exists right.
Yeah! How dare we aim our local commercials at only 88-90% of the worlds popuplation? The nerve!
If they were local I wouldn't see them
Plus you can get in big trouble if your website etc is only accessible to 99% of people and disregards screenreaders
good morning/afternoon/evening everyone
Wife when I replace fan switches and wiring with ifan03 and put a blank plate where the switch was: "ugh you messed with the switches"
Wife when I attach the fan controller to the blank plate with a command strip: "Wow you sure were busy while I was gone!"
i'm so glad my fiancee is so tolerant of my smart home setup. she actually even likes it
and she would definitely let me know if she didn't
I just have strict requirements that everything has to look like it did before
but she doesn't even carry a front door key now so I count that as a success
except when HA dies and I have to remote in to fix it
when HA dies? that's certainly not normal...what do you mean
one time my SD card failed and the door wouldn't open
I've thought about it - trying to keep the power usage down for the UPS I have it on
but I also added a fallback for her access card so it works even if the server is down
oh gotcha
i don't have anything "mission critical" controlled by home assistant...mainly just conveniences that i would miss but wouldn't be devastating
i have an extension of my security system running but nothing that is the core of the system at all
well even the door still works with the normal key, but who wants to carry a key these days?
oh good, i was concerned for you both lol
i live in a condo with secured entry so even if i had a smart lock on my unit door, i'd still need to carry a key for the building entrance
Not if you always leave the door open 😄
lol true, but someone would close it
plus i wouldn't want anyone being able to walk in without the key
with my august locks, I go weeks without touching my keys, except for mailbox.
Put a sign there "Please don't walk in"
@boreal pewter such a simple, yet brilliant solution
Yes, but is it DJ Roomba?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXhsUPtsiLU
😄
Came across a mention of home assistant in /r/britishproblems https://reddit.com/r/britishproblems/comments/d24j63/its_september_so_you_now_have_to_be_extra/ezsv32o?context=5
🤣
Just... don't use switch.turn_off with an area_id - I've just removed that from my setup
Something odd is going on and it turns off every switch in the house
Oooh
I need to find out if that's something stupid I'm doing, or an actual bug
It's supposed to work, and does with light
It's not a bug it's a feature
New update made discord look like absolute trash... why they do this....
do you use the light theme?
I did yeah but they broke it so badly I had to switch to the dark one, which doesn't look as bad, but still pretty awful
Well there's your problem right there then
Jk. I wanted to switch to the light theme on only the desktop web client, but apparently it's a global setting 😡
Anyone else feeling left confused and sad that Home Assistant is moving away from yaml?
Im unsure if I'll need to restart my whole setup for the new configuration
what do you mean moving away from yaml? where do you see that?
Pros and cons
Can't infrastructure as code or cicd it, which is a shame
Pros are wider user adoption, which means more and better plugins will follow
@dire tusk most UI-based config doesn't require a restart
anyone got a good link to an apple summary video
@storm summit the keynote was meh
Yea. I just watched a summary and read a blog.
they are trying the Mac Pro again I see.
new allways on display apple watch, new cheap ipad with smart keyboard and iphone 11/pro
the sound level notificaiton on the watch is cool. wish I had that when i was 22
all those clubs probably destroyed a bunch of my ears.
WE have a super-loud air-dryer in our bathroom at work. That's the first place I'm taking my watch when it comes out. I'm going to send a screen shot to the property manager.
Hmmm seeing a post about using esp8266/32... Could use one to automate turning on my Keurig... Do I dare venture down that rabbit hole?
You might have better luck in #diy-archived @upper tinsel
I wouldn't bother though myself
Pod machines really should run a empty rinse cycle first to preheat
Plus inserting a pod and pressing one button isn't a huge time saver
If anything I'd do it to automatically preheat and prerinse. And insert a pod in manually afterwards
Was just thinking out loud - I was only curious to do it to start the heat cycle. I hate waiting for it to heat up in the morning
Abandon all hope...
6am deployment, wohoo
oh shit, U1 chip and home assistent is going to be fun once Apple opens that up for us Devolopers
Apple Keyfinder incoming
I really need to get into @clear ferry Spotify playlists!
How’s @ocean mirage going with that?

I woke up to a bed full of piss this morning since my daughter slept 13 hours last night 😂
😂 perfect!
I need to start using bigger diapers
Yeah our girl is chonk so we use the big ones
Mine is 7kg at 7.5 months :/
Ours have been at 110 for a while both in height and weight
Works those gains!
Git gud
Ours is undergoing a rockyesque training regime complete with eye of the tiger every meal time
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Fun times
It’s our third so this is all happening without really concentrating too much 😂
I need to figure out her sense of music soon, she dances to acdc and falls asleep to me singing pink Floyd, and used to sleep on top of me listening to Joe bonamassa and Peter Gabriel, so I try to push music as much as I can
That’s rad!
Are we talking about weed plants?
Not quite. But I think it’s legal to own one where I live
Depends on the gender right..
@tough igloo you got mail 📬
Thanks! Getting my wife to translate 😝
I have the Fridge managment - she gota decide whats unhealty...
stupid to have an nutrition expert in spe at home
My life’s motto
You read fantasy @clear ferry ? I saw a reference to Tolkien in the newsletter
What parts?
Indeed, there is a lot of metal bands that reference fantasy works
Case, Mainboard, Processor & Cooler
can reuse my shitty ram and graphic card
I usually stick to Tolkien or Stephen king multiverse though
I started reading The Hobbit recently
My AiO cooler broke in an Alienware Desktop.. the suckers wanted 190 bucks for looking at it and another 250 for an replacement cooler. No 💢
Tryed to get a decent mainboard for an 1155 - almost impossible
That’s harsh
Dell®
You buy shit, you get shit 😄
Was'nt to bad - for around 1000€ an I5 with 16 gig ram + an geforce 1080ti
the 1080 allone would have costed me 800€ back then
I’ll stick with air cooling
No shit for me
Except this electrical in this place I rent till the end of the month
F this shit
Brown outs left and right, my USPS systems keep kicking online
I really hope this masive cooler I bourght will get in there
I remember reading the Silmarillon in 2001, actually had to stop at points and reread sentences, and I'm quite proficient in English, although not native 😂 @tough igloo @ocean mirage
Using Tolkien as a benchmark for English.... 🤔
Love his work, but it's not always an easy read even for a native reader.
best good night story ever
I stopped reading Norwegian books when I was 12 though 🤷
Nah, for bedtime stories you want to read some of Stephen King's work 😛
Aye, I mostly read King these days
The Hobbit is quite simple, just dated language
The wife hates his style of writing
I hate how he || wrote himself into the dark tower ||
I prefer his horror/thriller to the Dark Tower
🙈 mostly reading books bout networking and other fun things like ansible or openshift
He contemplated removing himself in the next rewrite though @ocean mirage
@clever mortar insomnia is very good for a non horror novel
The shining is probably my favourite other than the drawing of the three and the wastelands though
the only king I read was 11.22.63
I've read all his "early" stuff
Yeah it was good. The show was pretty good too I thought
I haven’t seen it
Doctor sleep is very good too, coming this year as a movie too
to your earlier comment - thanks to wikis I know how to pronounce words in fantasy books
I haven’t read many of his classic horrors
I need to get around to the stand, seen the mini series many times, never read the book
Anyone know about aws ecs vs eks vs k8s etc
EKS is just a managed offering of K8S by Amazon.
ECS is a way of running containers within your VPC rather than bringing up full EC2 VMs if I recall correctly.
is talking about anti-5g thing technically politics
probably @pure vine 🤣
A group of protesters got a debate on my local counicls agenda, they pretented their points, and the first counciler to respond works in the indistry or is a Uni person and what was really annoying is that becuse the protestors had no counter point to his arguments and decided just to try and discredit him by laughing
there is a video of it

I wouldn't say that, but I have enterprise FC drives in my garage that I just keep around just in case 🤣
mostly 72-900GB range each though
Fun fact, you couldn't even install GTA V on a 72GB drive 😛
It would only fit like 1 4k movie too
What did time do 😭
Untitled_2.0.jpg (1400×933)
I remember my dad upgrading out home computer to a new state of the art 80gb hard drive and thinking we'd never fill it up
and now i'm slowly building an 80tb home fileserver lol
lol 80TB
you can fit a lot of linux isos on 1.1PB 🤣
That is just cloud storage tho tbh 😛 😅
I still remember my Commodore with tape drive 🤣
but the first PC was the IBM PS\1, with a 40MB drive
@clear ferry remembers when the first car touched a street
no, you are thinking about @clever mortar I'm a youngling 🤔
Hey, the first cars were electric - you kids are just catching up again now
had a bit of a scare yesterday...i've been using the wyze sense custom component for a while now, and I just got a z-wave/zigbee USB stick. plugged it in, added zha and z-wave to my config, and got a ton of errors after restarting home assistant and wyze no longer worked. i remembered reading how modemmanager can cause issues with this on the setup that i have (hassio on raspbian), so disabled modemmanager, rebooted the pi, and all is well
and by "bit of a scare" i mean i was gonna be sad if i couldn't get the new USB stick to work lol
@clear ferry my dumbass is over here thinking that's a half mug of some sort until i noticed it's just the coffeemaker blocking part of it
lulz
urgh.. cant remember that wxpython taks so long tu build
Does htop try to tell me that bijiben have access to 98G?..
man, i ordered a aqara cube and the conbee stick, for the express purpose of making a volume control for my sonos setup (which uses some new ikea/sonos symfonisk) only to find out they are coming out with a volume remote. https://www.ikea.com/fr/fr/p/symfonisk-telecommande-volume-noir-40433780/
Congrats - you got now a conbee stick to play with 🙂
Anyone with Transmission on ubuntu server? can not get permission to write torrent, this my ls -la: https://hastebin.com/uyicawopek.rb . What permission should i give?
For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than search it for themselves.
ubuntu servers 🤢
You and your debian :P
could be arch
meh, I'm moving everything to freebsd jails and docker right now
and suse for whatever linux stuff I need
FreeBSD FTW
Actually, FreeBSD for when your old pre-Oracle Sun kit finally dies
That stuff would run forever I'd swear
longer than Tru64 you say
If I only could have that fully specced GS1280 🤣
for all you shitkids that think AMD-cpus are the cool stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO4jFmk-x5U 🤣
Conectivity of the GS1280 AlphaServer
@hearty depot have tried with chmod -R 777,775,770,664, nothing
🤢
The first and seccond awnser at askubuntu is quite comprehensive and easy to follow 😉
tried all commands for user w and debian-transmission
google that before, but i am lost now

anyone using vacuum sealer here btw?
sorry not HA question
or smart home
I just wonder
Well that's what this channel is for. I only use my lungs when I try to vacuum seal my steaks into freezer bags. Doesn't work well, would not recommend...
I use a sink full of water
why didn't I think of that...
i'm having trouble picturing what you mean @unreal orbit
did you try in MS paint?
Here's a quick, easy, inexpensive way to seal foods airtight in a plastic-bag. All you need is a zipper-lock bag, and a tub or pot of water. If using this me...
look at mr moneybags over here using water to seal his meat
jk that's pretty clever
I'd be lying if I said I've never ended up with a bag full of water. You have to do this very carefully
Compared to my way of a straw and lungs... I feel dumb now...
As long as you're using decent quality ziplocks and you pay attention you should be fine
If you're trying to get the air out of a bag full of water this method can get more complicated
i guess it's not a huge deal if some water gets in the bag though, right
certainly not ideal, might create more freezer burn?
It depends on what you're freezing. For meat it doesn't matter if you only get a little bit in there. Meat has water
right, that's what i figured
I want a vacuum sealer
from amazon.com
yet they told me I cannot use that
because I have 230v
instead of 120
well magic smoke would come out
are there no 230v vacuum sealers
But I don't shop at amashit
*shamazon
Why do you hate amazon?
i don't but i couldn't pass up some clever wordplay
Because they hardly ship to Norway, and if they do the shipping is the price of a Tesla
That's a fair reason not to use them if you're in Norway, but I don't see how that objectively makes them shit
is that you, jeff bezos?
tried the german amazon atxbyea? They offer free shipping to Finland at least
They are pretty evil though
...but also cheap
@unreal orbit the are norwacists 😛
GERMANS
there he is
Or Norway has better labor laws than the countries that Amazon thrives in
@orchid rose lieferen nach Norwegen!
Die Deutschen kommen!
@unreal orbit you mean we don't exploit workers? Yes 😛
That was my meaning, yes
If you are buying cheap products then somewhere down the line someone is being exploited
But but but not the 12 year old chinese in the factory right?
No they are probably better off than Amazon warehouse employees 🤷
😄 😄 😄
did some research on sweatshops a few years ago...apparently some of them actually provide a quality of life that's better than, for example, working outside in the fields. not that "this is a lesser evil" justifies it, but i just found it interesting
that's probably bordering politics a bit though, so sorry in advance
ODroid-H2 looks to be the perfect HA computer
I have a few ODroid-HC2 which I got to use for messing with proper distributed storage (Ceph/Gluster etc)
Great little machines.
"2 x Gbit Ethernet ports"
MOAR ethernet
and yeah it does. i wish the pi had an RTC...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KQQVKDP Anyone used these, know if they can be de-clouded with Tasmota or similar?
Seem a decent price for 4, and we all love a bit of RGB...
@wintry crow i have my regions version of those plugs and was not able to do tuya-convert
So, with the hurricane this past weekend, my basement flooded and all my possessions that were down there have been removed and either thrown out or locked away in a secure storage container. In addition, a good portion of the drywall has now been gutted.
My big stresser today? My two Phillips Hue smart lightbulbs that may have been mistakenly thrown out by the clean-up crew.
I may have a problem.
@polar relic sorry to hear that. Fs in the chat for your hue bulbs too
Also funny that that's your big stressor lol
Hello all, which raspberry pi would you buy if you are starting a new installation of hassio, 3B+ or 4?
Try #330944238910963714 haha
I'd go for the 4 myself.
Better storage, better network, better cpu, more ram, etc
Cool, thanks for your input.
@clever mortar chmod: changing permissions of 'docker-compose.yaml': Read-only file system any reason that would have randomly started doing that given that I'm on that SSD now? The filesystem reports it as readable -rwxrwxr-x 1 pi smbgrp 442 Sep 6 11:18 docker-compose.yaml
Tinkerer is away for 4h 27m 49s with a message :point_right: Searching... Searching... Tinkerer not found. Reset reality? 🇾 /🇳
looks like that drive has bad sectors things? =/
I'm moving, so it's time to start over with my smart device setup. If you had to choose smart switches for your entire house today, what would you choose? I used GE z-wave switches before and liked them, but they weren't cheap and I'm curious of what else other homeassistant users have in their homes.
HomeKit ones
@bronze rock ew... that doesnt' look good.
@spring creek Yea, I don't know. I hear people using a lot of those cheap WiFi switches. No idea how good they are. Mine are like $70 each too. I'm thinking someone needs to make ones that integrate directly with smart bulbs.
HomeKit? To me the HomeKit ecosystem sounds like a bad idea.
I don't recommend smart switches with smart bulbs
Like mains switching switches
You're paying double for the smarts
so there are european models
yes
but those are more expensive and weird
i could get a cheaper one from amazon.ocm
.com
yet it uses 120V system
I wouldn't use ones that aren't certified for your region or you'll void your insurance
If you want smart bulbs I recommend either wireless switches stuck on the wall, or hardwired switches to raspberry pi gpios etc
Ikea bulbs can also be directly controlled by ikea switches
Ikea tradfri bulbs, switches and hubs are probably your cheapest legal solution
anyone using their own domain with Home Assistant?
I have a spare domain and I'd like to point it to me HA. Just not sure about what I need to change at the registrar
I was hoping to just use IPv6 and I added a AAAA record with the host @ to my IPv6 address of the server running HA
it's propagated in DNS but when I ping I still get the old host company IPv4 address
not sure if I need a cname record as well
I'm using my own domain. Got the AAA record pointing to a freedns address, which is in turn pointing to my external IP.
ipconfig /flushdns (if windows)
did that a 100 times lol
Took a few hours to be accessible, mostly because I don't know much about networking/internet 😛
well I checked the domain propagation and it seems to have propagated everywhere
why a freedns go-between?
do I need anything else other than an AAAA record and some patience?
Because I don't have a static IP, and I stupidly went with a registrar that didn't support any sort of dynamic DNS 😛
I've used dyndns for 20 years and hosted all my stuff on subdomains at home 🤷
Nothing ipv6 though
Does your ISP allow access using IPV6? I know a lot of ISPs use CGNAT for IPV4, and I believe because of that - sometimes don't allow IPV6.
My ISP recently changed to CGNAT but let me opt out, thank god
I've had ipv6 support at my ISP for 5 years, but haven't gotten around to use it, used a ipv6 tunnel between 2002 and 2004
I've heard of six of these
I clock in at four
only 13 for me 🤔
only more than both of us combined
I know @clear ferry don't live under a rock, he has heard of 10+ at least, it's probably just too early for him 😛
probably found 3-4 additional when looking a second time 😛
@clear ferry has built clouds in 1970 before anyone even knew he ever needs one
nah, doublechecked, only found six 🤣
So I have one motion sensor in my hall, and a button we click when we go to bed. Meaning the motion sensor is setting an input_bool to be true if motion is detected. So im having all kinds of problem with that. Vacuum cleaner is triggering it, some times when I get home there is a lag in the sensor causing my lights not to turn on etc. Does anyone have a smarter way to do it?
Though it was suitable for lounge?
For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related, like whether Docker or Kubernetes, or Celcius or Kelvin, or Celcius or Celsius, or anything. NO POLITICS or RELIGION and BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently.
I don't see how this is misunderstandable
ok
@boreal pewter it could be clearer, if the aren't was in bold and caps!
Indeed
Why reading carefully if you just could look at bold and caps
Every docu should do that with it's 20k words on 30 pages
😄
There are several neural networks that have been trained to respond to keywords such as "hassio in docker" or "I can't get monster-card to work"
hassio in docker is IMO a permaban
@boreal pewter I regularly have to debug really nasty issues caused by "docker on docker" deployments, especially in CI/CD situations. It's at the point where if a dev comes to use with a problem where they're doing docker in docker, we tell them to F**K Off, do a proper setup, and we'll get back to them!
My drone ci runs in a container
But uses the host docker engine, or whatever you want
So no docker inception
hmm, docker inception... Going to start tagging those Jiras with that!
rather dockerception 🤔
Docker in docker is retarded, no questions. But to think you run hassio in docker while you're not is just Pure stupidity
Time runs slower each layer you go down
Waiting for someone to accidentally write a recursive script which does docker all the way down by accident 😄
Isn't that how Skynet started?
No that was because people didn't update Windows 10 often enough
John Connor is actually CSO of Microsoft, and Cortana is skynet. And they're playing an endless dance of zero day exploits and patches
images (9).jpeg (477×308)
anybody know good software to make code blocks and create graphical annotations to those code blocks for use in powerpoint ?
@clear ferry That's why I didn't say artificial neural network.

renamed '/home.bak' -> '/home/home.bak'``` I'm trying to overwrite /home with the contents of /home.bak, but *it* won't let me. What am I doing wrong?
would sudo mv -v /home.bak/. /home work? Aha! Yes. but now... mv: cannot move '/home.bak/.' to '/home/.': Device or resource busy oh right, i need to do this as a user with no home in /home
but that didn't work either 🤷
overwriting all of /home at once sounds like a bad idea...
so, I backed up /home, into /home.old, mounted a new SSD as /home and copied /home.old into it. The SSD died last night (or is dying, I think https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/j5vVxcsBS8/) so I copied all of /home (as the SSD) to /home.bak so I could merge what i needed from both the old backup (.old) and the new backup (.bak) and now I've unmounted the SSD so /home is basically empty.
i don't need to move the entirety, but i do need everything in /home.bak/pi back
Well you either remove /home upfront and move /home.bak to /home or you keep /home and move everything from INSIDE home.bak to home
Either way should work just fine being root
I'm failing at the syntax of mv for some reason, the latter feels safer to me so what would an example of that be? mv -v /home.bak/* /home?
or do i just move all the dirs inside one by one?
Either
rm -rf /home && mv /home.bak /home
Or mv /home.bak/* /home/
The trailing slash was seemingly what I was forgetting. I like how powerful this cli is vs ms, but, it helps a lot if you wield that power correctly 😉
Yup... I assumed so
all the .* files in /home.bak/pi didn't move to /home/pi and when I attempted to copy them that didn't work either. How do you move those? lol I suck at this.
They are probably permission 700 and 600?
total 84
drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 4096 Sep 12 11:23 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Sep 12 11:21 ..
-rw------- 1 root root 33193 Sep 12 03:17 .bash_history
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 220 Sep 12 03:12 .bash_logout``` I attempted to copy as root, so?
root has rw on all from what i can tell
its dawning on me now that I should have put all the docker containers' files not in /home 😂
mv: cannot stat '.bashrc': No such file or directory``` Huh?
Just try to work as root first
su to another non pi user allowed me to move those files
i don't have an actual root login
at least, not over SSH
if I already have running docker instances, and I didn't start them with compose, can I change that to compose or will I have to recreate them with compose ? 🤔
You don't need to LOGIN as root to become root.. but that should be linux basic
@clear ferry it doesn't matter if they were started with compose or not if you use proper naming and networking in the config itself. But you won't be able to docker-compose down unless it was used docker-compose up -d
doesn't sudo run the command as root?
@bronze rock that is not so easy... actually yes but also no. There is also a huge difference between sudo -i and su - and su and so on
@boreal pewter I might have misunderstood, but I thought only stuff created through docker-compose can automatically restart on power on of host atleast, or is that possible with stuff I have created with docker run ? I should probably move to compose anyway...
If you do such kind of work just be "real root"
@bronze rock Linux for dummies is a good start, 9th edition out now 😏
ah, well, i just su root and supplied the correct password, but it wasn't allowed, which I think is a desired outcome over SSH
@clear ferry oh no omg. You can always append the flag --restart=always in a run as well as restart: always to compose
@bronze rock while for root you don't need su root but just su, there again is a difference between su and su -
I don't think I can become root, at all, over SSH

You can if you did it right...
perhaps I'm being unclear, i intentionally set this up so I COULDN'T.
root may only be used at the actual pi itself
While I don't like to repeat... https://discordapp.com/channels/330944238910963714/397426163649216512/621657896417099798
you mean you did permitrootlogin no in sshd_config @bronze rock ?
I just checked sshd_config to be sure, but the whole thing is commented out
that will only be for ssh access, once you are in with a user and run su that doesn't matter
If you guys wanna be funny, we can be done, but if you want to actually be helpful, instead of derisive, that'd be nice
"For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related, like whether Docker or Kubernetes, or Celcius or Kelvin, or Celcius or Celsius, or anything. NO POLITICS or RELIGION and BE CIVIL to one another or get BANNED permanently."
First off commenting things out in sshd config doesn't deactivate them, it just makes them use the default.
And now the 3rd time, LOGGING IN AS ROOT AND BECOME ROOT ARE 2 THINGS
logging in as root ssh root@192.168.1.1 makes you master of the house upon login, becoming root ssh user@192.168.1.1 then su su - sudo su or any other means just makes you enter the house as a resident, then becoming the master of the house
I have no idea what the password is (I would have only set it to 1 thing, and that's not working). That doesn't make any sense though, because as other users when I use sudo, it forces me to use the password, and that does work. Any reason that would happen?
@bronze rock is your user in the sudoers group ? if so do sudo su and enter your user password, then change the root password by issuing passwd
brb, I have to power up a cisco switch to make a lab for some people
sudo:x:27:pi,moveryet as pi I never get asked to authenticate sudo uses but as mover I do
@hearty depot had the same question a while back
Underknowledge is away for 14h 13m 3s with a message :point_right: zzZzzzZZz....
you have to enforce it to do it
second answer
sudo su worked... 😄
I was trying su su - ... I never attempted to run it with sudo until now, oops 🙂 Thanks @clear ferry and @boreal pewter
that will only work if your system has sudo and the users are in the sudoers group
so don't think it will work on any system 😉
learn all ways to do stuff
I'm trying
@clear ferry I have systemd units for starting docker instances on start.
Works a charm and means they "survive" reboot.
hmmm, got examples ? 🤣
For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than search it for themselves.
Don't containers restart after a reboot if started with --restart always?
@low harness Yup, but if you need other services started before what's in the container gets started, having a Systemd Unit can be extremely handy.
Domoticz? I'm afraid you got the wrong number...
Not the product Domoticz ahah
Until now i hesitated between Domoticz and Home Assistant, but i'm going to install Home Assistant which seems much more complete and updated
Ok... I looked it up. Had never heard of "domotic" as a synonym for Home Automation before.. I think you're making the right choice. Moved over from domoticz myself about a year ago.
Oh sorry, i'm french, i though it was the same term in english 😉
Might be. I'm Swedish, so I wouldn't know either.
I'm a newbee in the home automation field, so the community is important for my choice
That's why i selected Home Assistant
I saw a lot of people moving from Domoticz to Home Asisstant
I already have a Raspberry pi 3b+, there is a NAS (samba) installed actualy, but i'm going to get a Pi 4 and move the NAS on it, for best speed (ethernet 1 gbps and USB 3.0)
So my 3b+ will be free to install my home assistant
I think it would be best to move this discussion to the #330944238910963714 channel. This one is for discussions about everything but Home Assistant, actually.
Yes 😉
Ping - ping - pings everywhere!!11
@hearty depot
Uuh cool
😄
Ha compatible? :D
Mh I guess not but it's not a robot, I already got one 😄
It just gonna be my new manually one
It has app control tho
Probably not very senseful anyway
New toy for the wife?
But to vacuum cleaners - I just love the hyla
@tawny pebble Concerning the NAS, i just want to access to my network drive when i'm outside of my personal network (from any PC with Windows, without configure anything else, just typing the IP on the file explorer ;)), and the router provided by my ISP have a NAS feature but i can't open it on the web. So after 3 years, i found the Raspberry solution and it works fine (I had an ADSL connexion so the upload speed was so much slow that it was not usefull to by a "true" samba NAS... but next week i will have the fiber in my new appartment so i'm looking for move it on a more powerfull device...)
😉
A question for english native speakers:
How would you group home appliances like a wasching machine / coffee machine etc into a more broad group that would contain also a drumset / guitar / recording gear / gaming PCs (pc, ps4..) ??
not limited to this but also not strict to home appliaces
You mean how to call it?
@restive pond ohhh i see! ok
@boreal pewter are those vacuums going to be available elsewhere after the initial mailout?
@boreal pewter yeah.. automations start to be too much and the folder is filled with file.
The group "Lights" was easy to create.. but this
oh, other topic, lol
@bronze rock yeah most likely but even more expensive
@tawny pebble but this is #the-water-cooler
too late to jump in now right?
correct, it seems stupid to ask it in other groups
@bronze rock yeah ended 2 weeks ago or so
you know companies have shitty automatic systems that generate users and emails when you get a mail from x.zxcvb3@company.com
single character first name, full last name, and just a appended number
must be nice to have on your business card
There was once a funny picture of naming where just a few first characters of first and last name were taken and that resulted in like "fot.ze" which is translated to cunt
This could be similiar but probably fake
🤣
zzz designing a networking lab for people who are both advanced and novices at once
what to keep, what to exclude
Token Ring, AUI Converters, some hubs and RIP
Well, I made my first custom automation in HASS, and it works. 😄
✨
i've gotten tired of my google home often not hearing me when i say "good night" even though it's right next to me on my nightstand. so, i bought a smartthings button, connected it to home assistant with my zigbee stick, and programmed the button press to carry out my good night routine. the best part in my opinion is that it still plays the white noise that the google home would play as part of the routine, except that it plays directly from my raspberry pi instead of the ☁ because i downloaded it
also, the smartthings hardware is seriously nice and not terribly expensive. $20 water leak sensors that connect directly to the pi with the zigbee stick, no smartthings hub required
@undone aspen what is it
aaah Fufufu - Thats probably Why I dont enjoy to build a PC myself - Everything is in - turns on, fan is spinning... black screen
Oh.. I just replaced a "SmartThings Smart Lights" automation with HASS doing it. When motion is detected in the living room motion sensor between certain hours, turn on the living room light till 2 minutes after motion stops", but I'm adding in a condition tonight. "if the apple TV is off or idle"
@hearty depot building pcs is easy.
Did it the last time when the Pentium 4 did come out 🤣
building.. yes..
Getting it stated.. no?
.... my cpu is to new for the mainboard maybe..
amd cpu without video? 😛
nope - the CPU is to new that the mainboard would know that it is a CPU FUFUFUFU
Shure thing that I hit this particular type of board 🤣
@undone aspen nice, good stuff.
Yeah. I noticed the issue with the motion sensor turning on the lights because of being... Well, in the living room, watching TV. 😉
Which for me, is usually the Apple TV.
Since... I can detect what the Apple TV is actually doing... I can set it up to have a condition not to do so. Not so much with some of the other devices there, yet, though. Possibly could do that with the BluRay Player, since it's network connected, and only shows up when it's powered up.
yep. the endless condition possibilities are part of what makes home assistant automation so powerful
that, and templating
@hearty depot what is the matter?
Mainboard doesnt recconice the CPU
🤞 just flashing an bios update
nope...
There is an newer bios update... maybe this one - otherwise... Putting everything apart again and back to where its coming from
what CPU/mobo did you get?
@undone aspen: if you want the automation to only fire if the apple tv is idle or off, use this:
condition:
condition: or
conditions:
- condition: state
entity_id: media_player.living_room
state: 'off'
- condition: state
entity_id: media_player.living_room
state: 'idle'
replace living_room with whatever entity_id your apple tv is
Oh, dang, thats even simpler than the homeassistant channel was suggesting.
they don't know what they're talking about over there 😉
jk, i don't know if they understood what you were asking
heheh
made a typo, look again
Hmmm.. So, one more thing, how would I combine that with a sun.sun below_horizon as well so it only triggers at night time?
That would be, and + or combined. 😉
A MSI b450 + Ryzen 7 3700x @jaunty summit
i'll dm you, this is out of the scope of #the-water-cooler and i don't want @clever mortar to get mad 😉

Sure. 🙂
or @vast dove 😉 (sorry)
Or use PM and don’t share knowledge with others 😉
IMHO its better to share in a public channel, but what do i know 😄
lol
@hearty depot Ryzen 3k are known to not work with any older bios version than the newest
And since most of these mainboards are made for Ryzen 2k they ofc do not ship with the latest version 😄
Idea Wich board I shall order next 🤣
Just packing up this deam thing again
You could google for known forums if there is any discussion of a board from a seller whoch -most likely- could have the newest version
I would simply guess none
You could rent from a friend, you could also google for "AMD sending install CPU's" or so, you could get one from Amazon and just a ship it back then
I think you just need any Ryzen 1k or 2k, or any AM4
