OOFT

odd mist
#

were you using anyhing before 1password?

sturdy juniper
#

yeah...

valid halo
#

adds that to The List of things to buy once I get my summer job

peak cloud
#

@odd mist KeePass

sturdy juniper
#

@peak cloud , I've used KeePass (became garbage), LastPass (also became garbage), and am currently using DashLane.

peak cloud
#

@valid halo $3/mo is so worth it. I ended up springing for the $5/mo family bundle so that I can get all of my employees on it too, for my company passwords.

sturdy juniper
#

It works well with my setup of macs and iphones..

valid halo
#

That's what I currently use KeePass

peak cloud
#

Yes, KeePass used to be amazing, but you're absolutely right, it became garbage.

odd mist
#

I'm still using lastpass

peak cloud
#

LastPass I've heard is great, too.

odd mist
#

my wife has learned how to use it

valid halo
#

Perhaps my use case is different. how is it garbage?

odd mist
#

I'd be afraid to switch to something else

peak cloud
#

I did a comparison on the two, and both are nearly identical in feature sets.

sturdy juniper
#

My company used LastPass for our customer environment password keeping, and it clashed so bad with my DashLane for my personal stuff.

odd mist
#

lastpass has definitely gotten better in the past 3 months

peak cloud
#

1P just recently released their 1Password X Chrome extension -- amazing!

sturdy juniper
#

@valid halo KeePass just wasn't keeping up with competitors at all (at least when i quit using them) and were lagging in support.

peak cloud
valid halo
#

Ah. I see

peak cloud
#

@sturdy juniper That's what happens when you have such fragmented software. The official was only supported on Windows, and everything else was just implemented by other developers.

#

If you don't have Tampermonkey for Chrome, get it now. โค

valid halo
#

I remember my primary annoyance with Last Pass before I switched was the mobile app wasn't syncing with the main one on my pc

#

even though it was supposed to do so for free

peak cloud
#

(if you're willing to play with Javascript and need to run userscripts)

#

I was really impressed how fast 1P synced.

valid halo
#

So far KeePass has been much better in that regard

#

though I am using a third party app that grabs the database from Dropbox

#

so that could easily be a massive security hole

peak cloud
#

Yeah, that's what I was doing, but it was garbage for maintaining different vaults.

valid halo
#

Ahhhhhh. I currently only have one vault which is myself.

peak cloud
#

I have to have multiple vaults: one for corporate (me, my business partner, and my GM), one for my online employees, and one for each store.

valid halo
#

I can see why you'd have trouble with it.

peak cloud
#

I don't want to share all of my personal passwords with all of my employees ๐Ÿ˜‚

valid halo
#

That's a lot of files to keep updated and synced and logged

peak cloud
#

There was no way for KeePassX MacPass (macOS) to open multiple files in the same window, and it was difficult to keep the different folders synced with the other files.

#

Speaking of, I should probably import all of my KeePass stuff. Chrome was easy to import.

valid halo
#

Maybe I'll give LP another try

peak cloud
#

I already imported personal keepass stuff.

valid halo
#

it was nice to have it autofill all my apps

peak cloud
#

Try 1P!!!

#

If you like it, I'll buy your first 3 months ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

valid halo
#

XD

#

That's a STRONG endorsement

sturdy juniper
#

for sure

valid halo
#

Let me go check it's onboarding instructions

peak cloud
#

I am that confident that you'll like it. I've used it on Windows, macOS, and iPhone, and everything is so perfect.

#

It even plays well with keychain on iOS.

valid halo
#

I don't even know what that is! It sounds impressive though

#

๐Ÿ˜‚

peak cloud
#

Keychain is what stores your passwords on iPhone.

#

(and syncs with macOS seamlessly)

#

It's all integrated into the OS.

valid halo
#

Okay so I have to export my KeePass 2 stuff and then use a converter tool to make them work in 1 Password

peak cloud
#

"Along with a master password, 1Password utilizes a โ€œsecret keyโ€ which never leaves your login devices, and is required for logins. That holds some advantages over multi-factor authentication, though it does mean that 1Password does not have the option of hardware or software based, third-party authentication systems. It does offer fingerprint logins, for those who like to use biometrics to authenticate themselves."

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/lastpass-vs-1password-comparison/

valid halo
#

Fingerprint Login slaps as the kids say

peak cloud
#

I have no idea what that even means.

#

I exported my personal KeePass stuff and imported to 1P no problem.

#

I think I used CSV.

valid halo
#

It means it's good.

clear ferry
#

I still enjoy keepass, the database is behind two levels of authentication and I can use fingerprint to login ๐Ÿคท

peak cloud
#

I am about to do it again for a diff vault, so I can let you know how difficult the process is.

valid halo
#

I'll figure it out

#

I'm good at Reading The Friendly Manual

clear ferry
#

Or actually three levels if I count keepass itself

peak cloud
#

There is a pretty neat converter tool available. That's probably what you read about.

valid halo
#

Sometimes I do grow concerned using KeePass

#

since I'm C+P into programs.

#

Then again if someone has that kind of access. I'm screwed as is

#

Anyways onto trying out 1Pass so that dale is happy

#

So you just export as CSV?

#

grumbles and walks off to find his wallet

peak cloud
#

I believe so.

#

Send me your receipt and I'll send you over 1/4 of the annual payment if you do the $3/mo single-user subscription.

valid halo
#

XD I haven't even used the program yet

#

I'm doing the 30 day free trail

peak cloud
#

The two things I haven't tried and cannot endorse: 1P on Linux and 1P on Android

valid halo
#

๐Ÿ˜ฌ

#

I'm an android user

#

Well I guess I'll be the test case then

peak cloud
#

Lol, good. Just tell your Alexa to remind you to message me when it comes time to buy (if you choose to)

valid halo
#

KK

peak cloud
#

The fact that their Windows experience is better than the macOS experience, I have faith that Android experience is going to be bomb.

valid halo
#

#

valid halo
#

CSV import from KeePass didn't work right lol

#

my passwords become the User names XD

#

I gotta install strawberry perl

peak cloud
#

Ewwwwww

valid halo
#

I know right. More WORK

peak cloud
#

I am testing out the mrc converter suite.

valid halo
#

Hmmm

#

problem

#

output file from converter is pif

#

but 1P wants CSV

clear ferry
#

Even my android app for keepass let's me select .csv as output here ๐Ÿคท

#

Oh you need to convert it after the export?

sturdy juniper
#

he said the KeePass export swapped his passwords and usernames... I would think if that were the case, he could just change the headers in the csv to reverse them...

#

not that i've tested that, just thinking adjusting the headers might be a valid option..

valid halo
#

Okay

#

I used the converter program

#

and it works P good

peak cloud
#

@valid halo That converter worked pretty well!

#

On mac I had to edit the "helper" script a little so that it could find the perl file.

valid halo
#

lol

#

valid halo
#

Okay

#

that's cool

#

wanna fite about it?

peak cloud
#

@clear ferry Some sites (I have no idea why!) don't allow certain characters in passwords, and some don't allow longer than a certain amount. ๐Ÿ˜ข

#

@valid halo If you use Chrome, install 1Password X extension.

#

I have been changing my passwords slowly but surely. Won't say how long they are, or how many of which characters ๐Ÿ˜›

#

But I do know that 1P makes it sooo easy to change htem.

clear ferry
#

@peak cloud I've only encountered it on two sites, then I lowered it to 16 characters and no special, and it was fine ๐Ÿคท

valid halo
#

"Must be changed every month. Eight Character Max. No numbers or spaces and cannot be the same as last six passwords."

flat lintel
#

Glad 1P worked out @peak cloud

@peak cloud normie routers ๐Ÿ˜›

Yeah yeah yeah. I'm wanting to get an Edge router one day.

clear ferry

Those are even more normie these days it seems, everyone has them if you listen to this discord ๐Ÿ˜‚

sturdy juniper
#

I'm good with my Untangle setup for now..

clear ferry
#

Untangle was fun, but I'm definitely going back to pfsense before the summer is over

#

Just need to find the time ๐Ÿ˜

sturdy juniper
#

Untangle has been good to me. and their workshops are cool

#

lol, i just looked at my untangle instance, and it's been up 166 days. we had power outages twice in the past 3 months during the night. I guess those old UPS batteries ARE still good.

#

at least, good enough to bridge the gap

valid halo
#

I've got an Actiontec Router

I want to buy a UPS for my Pi

clear ferry

You get a ups header for the pi

#

It's quite nice

sturdy juniper
#

I still haven't really figured out what I'm gonna do with this atomic pi i have sitting on my desk.

#

I thought about putting hassio on it..

valid halo
#

Ooft

sturdy juniper
#

just not sure i trust it yet

valid halo
#

that's gonna clash with my case

#

What's a low risk use case you can test it with?

sturdy juniper
#

retroPI, or maybe a androidtv box..

#

maybe finally getting around to building a carputer

#

the AutoPi project really sparked my interest.

clear ferry
#

Had a colleague build a carputer back in 98, it was huge ๐Ÿ˜‚

valid halo
#

A carputer?

sturdy juniper
#

yeah, thats about how long i've been thinking about building one

#

lol

valid halo
#

Do tell

#

Plz tell because I don't feel like Googling

sturdy juniper
#

well, back then i wanted to build an mp3 player for my car, using advantech sbc's

#

Now, I can throw a Pi on a OBD2 dongle with a touchscreen and get a lot more from it.

#

CAN bus hacking too

clear ferry
#

I had a raspberry pi in my Audi A8, I connected it to the TV tuner and streamed Kodi via WiFi to it, it was ok ๐Ÿคท

valid halo
#

I honestly don't see a use case for a Carputer for myself

#

I've got AA and Bluetooth in my Jetta

#

Maybe Car presence?

sturdy juniper
#

my 2010 chrysler doesn't have a ton of creature comforts, Bluetooth included..

clear ferry

I spend up to 6 hours of a day in my car, so streaming is a must

@hushed basalt The watch is one of those Fossil Hybrids so it can't send a notification instead of an alarm. More importantly the alarm feature cannot be tripped by a notification, although a notification can make it vibrate so that's something to consider.... And about waking up at different times. Yeah it's probably not great for me but I'm a shift worker with 3 different shifts that happen without any pattern so....

hushed basalt
#

Sounds awful haha

#

I can't stand changing shifts

#

Have you looked at a Xiaomi watch?

#

You can get shaker alarms as well

#

If it's directly under your pillow and the sensitivity isn't too strong it should wake you up before her

#

But even my wifes iwatch vibrating can wake me up so it just depends. There's no silver bullet

#

You could set up a high power laser that burns you, that would wake you up :D

peak cloud
#

I miss my bedshaker alarm ๐Ÿ˜‚

civic ember
#

Maybe I'll just go down the route of my bedside light gradually increasing brightness to 75% and then 20 pushbullet notifications 2 seconds apart.

#

Although the annoying thing about that is I can't turn off the pushbullet notifications once I get up

#

Unless I use appdaemon to put it on a while loop until the motion sensor detects movement ๐Ÿ˜„

peak cloud
#

Have you looked into the Z-Wave sirens? They make great alarm clocks ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

I set mine up so that the only way I could turn it off was to login to the UI and disable it.

civic ember
#

The (most important) prerequisite in all this is not waking the wife at the same time ๐Ÿ˜‰

peak cloud
#

(It would go off for a few seconds, then wait a little while, then go off again)

#

Well that's no fun!

peak cloud
#

That certainly answers the question appropriately!

Anyhow current project is getting MQTT Broker and Zigbee2MQTT up and running.

#

Taking a while, but slowly getting there.

peak cloud
#

What installation method are you running?

#

If Hass.io, it should just be a couple of clicks.

civic ember
#

I can't seem to get it to connect to the Mosquito Broker addon

#

Keeps throwing Not connected to MQTT server!

#

homeassistant does manage to connect to Mosquitto though.

#

Progress! I got it to throw an authentication error.

#

At least now I know it's connecting.

clear ferry
#

You need to supply a user in newer versions of mosquitto, that was not the case in earlier releases

civic ember
#

I have, in the acl conf file etc

#

Success!

#

I was putting the username/password in the conf file of /share/zigbee2mqtt rather than in the Hassio addon

#

I think this is what's so addictive about this hobby. It's tricky and you need to learn new things to get things up and running but it's really satisfying when you finally get something new to work.

civic ember
#

Great, now I just need to mount them properly on the garage door.

#

I am new here, so please forgive me if I am asking this in the wrong place. I have homeassistant and google home running without any issues. I add my hass account to google home (through the cloud nuba casa login), and everything seems just fine, and integrated.

The problem starts when I try to manage my routines on google home. Trying to edit an existing routine, or adding a new routine -> Google Home Crashes.

Any ideas what would cause that?

I have done the obvious. Flushed cache. Uninstalled reinstalled google home. Disconnected all other accounts from google home. Disconnected and reconnected HASS.

valid halo

isn't google home literally just listening for soundwaves that match the general idea of "hey Google"

Yea, but they ran into issues with companies like Burger King taking advantage of it. Plus it's suppose to know who is using it.
You'd think on their own commercials they would include some sound that tells the Google Home "hey, don't activate".
Same thing for activating your phone and the Google Home

It natively integrates into docker

I still haven't started messing with docker containers so I don't know what issues there are.

@severe parcel schedule has changed recently, there were mentions in the podcast about it and there was a blog post

Hey guys I'm stuck at home and need a suggestion for a project to do this morning. It's between putting together a pc out of old parts, installing linux on it then Hassio on docker or wiring the GPIO of a raspberry pi to my old home alarm to integrate it into HA.

clear ferry

Last one for sure, the other two are just boring ๐Ÿ˜›

civic ember

Cool. I'll need 3 wires I'm thinking. 2 to close a switch on the alarm to activate/deactivate and 1 to get the state from the alarm.

Although I wonder if it will be a security issue if you can deactivate the alarm by jumping those cables ๐Ÿค”

Just a very general and quite fundamental question (which I guess can earn some bad-will?)
Why was this excellent and much appreciated group not created on Slack? This gamer IM/chat/talk platform don't seem to be as great for the purpose it seems to want to achieve? Slack seems to be a better service for the purpose.

#

@clear ferry - Yes this may be a good personal opinion but for purposes like sharing short snippets of code, threaded discussions and quick image uploads there are (in my, again, personal opinion) better tools than Discord that (if I with my limited experience) focuses on a gamer community.

#

I mostly wanted to raise the discussion and understand why the decision was made to use Discord instead of Slack.

light trout

There is a HUGE drawback to slack (free version) you can only search the last 10000 mesages

Discord have image support (we have just disabled it for most channels (people posted images of text (log/config)))

Discord have code format

So my dad's garage got broken into over the weekend. The burglars taped the door to their bedroom that walks out onto the back deck where the garage is. They also placed some noisy stuff in front of the door to alert said burglars if they open it. They got away with a couple ipads, a laptop, cellphone, tools, and were going after his truck but couldn't find the keys.

I want to buy some some "smart home" stuff for home security to begin securing his house / garage. He's not very tech literate (he just got Google Mini's and loves them). I don't want something the requires home-assistant, but instead some stuff that can be monitored/managed through an app. Was thinking basic to start like camera/motion sensors face the doors in the garage, and the backyard. If motion is detected while away or overnight I'd like for them to be alerted, with the possibility of an alarm sounding. I know there's a lot of options out there but does anyone have recommendations on products they've used successfully? Also don't want a monthly contract

hushed basalt
#

@tall pawn sorry to hear that sucks

#

Philips Hue stuff might be a popular easy solution

#

You would need a Hue Bridge but that's not a big deal

#

Then you could get their motion sensors and connect them to google home

#

IFTTT can be used to tie stuff together as well

#

Cameras are harder

#

I would use cameras to look after getting a motion alert from the motion sensors

#

False positives are pretty common on camera motion detection

#

You can also use door/window sensors as well

#

I haven't used Philip Hue myself though. It's pricey but it's common as hell which usually means it's more refined

tall pawn
#

hm, I have Hue stuff but I never considered it for a "security" solution

#

I was looking at Ring, Nest, Abode, Yi Outdoor Camera

hushed basalt
#

I would look at whatever works best with Google Home

#

But false positive alerts on cameras will annoy them

#

Also prevention is the best cure

#

Look at practical stuff like motion triggered lights outside, less places for bad guys to hide, etc

#

Deadlocks that can't be taped

tall pawn
#

Yeah, I was sort of hoping there'd be some solution like cameras that have options on when to alert and when not to. A camera facing the garage to record any "creepers" would be nice, but don't need alerts for it. Inside the garage however having motion/camera facing the doors seems like it would avoid false alerts. Assuming that it's "armed" only when away or in bed

#

Deterrent is definitely more important

hushed basalt
#

If the light level is the same it should be okay

#

But a lot of cameras will alert when it changes to night vision, or a car driving past shines through a window, etc

tall pawn
#

yeah tell me about it, my Ring doorbell camera is annoying

#

Abode looks nice but seems a little hard to get a hold of in Canada

hushed basalt
#

Personally I'd use less 'smart' cameras

#

Generic CCTV IP cameras will generally be better quality for cheaper

#

And you'll need a NVR if you want to record anyways

#

But it doesn't have to be an all at once thing too

#

Start outside. Assess the house for weaknesses.

Whats your all opinion of pure yaml configuration vs configuration of things inside home assistant

proven spruce

i kinda like the gui config... you can still edit the code but sometimes its easier to use the dropdowns to find entities

hushed basalt
#

Indeed

#

I guess the downside is it's not source control friendly

#

To use the gui

strange vapor
#

I'm an awkward git, so I tend to stick with Yaml so I understand what's going on underneath. Probably comes from a background where everything is code these days, and with the right tools it's a hell of a lot faster to search a few yaml and json files.

hearty depot
#

I also stick to yaml - mostly because I cant use !include in the storage mode - and for more advanced cards the storage mode is a pain
Would still live to use both

@hushed basalt I go yaml when I can, I prefer it there if I need to restore a configuration, the integrations wont restore as easy I suppose

hushed basalt

I like pure yaml, it feels more 12 factor

strange vapor

coral coyote
#

anyone here who tinkered with the Plex integration that could help me?

clear ferry
#

I touched it once, what is the problem ?

coral coyote
#

been trying to figure it out since this morning, but i can't make it work

#

basically i'm stuck at making hass discover the plex server

clear ferry
#

I use the tautulli component for tracking usage

coral coyote
#

i am trying to follow this guide

clear ferry
#

aye, so it should discover it automatically if you have discovery: in your configuration.yaml

#

and then it should show up under integrations

coral coyote
#

ok that is the part i definitely missed. i didn't know i needed discovery: in config

clear ferry
#

You don't need it, but it makes it easier

#

You can create it manually with :

  - platform: plex```
#

then create the plex.conf file in your /config folder with the contents of {"IP_ADDRESS:PORT": {"token": "TOKEN", "ssl": false, "verify": true}}

coral coyote
#

done both

#

media_player:

  • platform: spotify
    client_id: 28bf93ca95c449f9b1ff718e1b569467
    client_secret: 86e7ab1f7b434770ac05be92b56446c1
  • platform: onkyo
    host: 192.168.1.2
    name: Onkyo Amplifier
  • platform: webostv
  • platform: plex
    host: 192.168.1.21
    port: 32400
#

this is what i have in config. Onkyo, WebosTV and Spotify are running fine. Plex does not show up anywhere even in the dev tools

#

i made a plex.config file with {"192.168.1.21:32400"} as content

clear ferry
#

the ip and port is not to be placed in configuration.yaml I belive you would put it in the plex.conf file with {"192.168.1.21:32400": {"token": "TOKEN", "ssl": false, "verify": true}}

#

you also need to see if you actually use SSL then toggle that

#

and if you certificate is self signed you need to set verify to false

#

and you need to put the token in that file also

coral coyote
#

i had all that stuff in earlier, then i read it's "optional", will try your way

#

should i put discovery: somewhere?

clear ferry
#

not if you configure it manually

coral coyote
#

ok

#

if i were to try with discovery:
should I remove plex.conf file?

clear ferry
#

yes, and the media_player line also

coral coyote
#

i changed according to your suggestion but still i don't see plex anywhere

#

in dev-state I can see spotify, onkyo and the rest. but not plex

clear ferry
#

have you restarted HA after changing ?

coral coyote
#

yeah

#

looking at the log there is no mention of plex

clear ferry
#

let me check my plex, I haven't integrated it

#

#

mhmm.. not working well so far

clear ferry

@coral coyote so I tested

#

Discovery did not work

#

but manually adding worked fine

#

all I have is the following in configuration.yaml ```
media_player:

  • platform: plex

and in `plex.conf`
``` {
    "192.168.1.x:32400": {
        "ssl": false,
        "token": "W12345677",
        "verify": false
Right, listen. Programing languages have lists of reserved words. If there are reserved words for names of things should that not be in the documentation. The idea that a script named test does not run is intuitive, but only after the fact and only because I have a programing background did I even make this leap.
vale slate
#
@snow oar : go 6 or 6a if possible, and run 2 sets. Make sure your ground at both ends is the same (this is a big deal) and you get a bit of future proofing. Your local building code is going to be a bit pedantic on what you can run in a wall/attic, and is going to be foucsed on your local fire regulation/prevention more than anything else. While your doing the install rent or borrow a GOOD cable tester (you will likely never need this item again) and test the connection once it is in place.
Thanks @vale slate
I like the zigbee ones - the Xiaomi ones are dem ceap - downside you either need an hub or a cc2531 or so
@sage timber Motion sensor detects motion, its not enough for occupancy. I'm looking for a cheap occupancy sensor too, I think does not exist yet.
Maybe silly question but....
I have a server at home that is on 24x7. Would you recommend using a vmware esxi HASSio with external z-wave stick versus a raspberry pi?
hearty depot
#
of cause
low harness
#
A raspberry is a good starting point. If you already have a real computer running there's no reason at all not to use it.
ebon mountain
#
prefer virtual so I can back it up easy i think
#
thomasloven - I'm going to need a raspbeery upstairs as z-wave doesn't seem to go through my walls.
low harness
#
It'll still probably run better in the corner of a real computer than in an entire raspi.
ebon mountain
#
i guess the good thing about Ubuntu is that I have full access to the OS in case I mess something up, right?
low harness
#
Not that it runs badly on a raspberry.
hearty depot
#
I also have 2 HA instances
one is taking care of my lights with an cc zigbee stick and the other one runs all other stuff
ebon mountain
#
well, i only have 1 server so the sysetm upstairs will be just a z-wave box. The Tuya integration, MQTT server will be on the server
#
just really upset that I have to do all this again..... Ugh...
hearty depot
#
I feel ya
orchid rose
ebon mountain
Mr. K -- Yes, familiar and can google decently. Does it have the same settings as HASSIO?
orchid rose
#
as far as I know you can do everything you can with hassio, just that you'll have to do it manually
ebon mountain
#
manually as in installing mosquito and such? I bet the z-wave is going to be a b#@$*@. Hassio was simple. Then again I bricked my box
orchid rose
stuff like ssl etc. But I've never tried hassio (yet) so I'm not sure how much of the integrations one needs
mosquito etc. Z-Wave I have no experience with
What are some options for smart plugs that have energy monitoring, I want to use them to monitor my washers and dryers
unreal orbit
TPlink has one, and sonoff makes one
dark swallow
The Sonoff are just wifi correct?
unreal orbit
Both of those are wifi
dark swallow
Do I need to flash custom firmware on the sonoff?
orchid rose
#
not sure if it supports all the devices and monitoring
clear ferry
dark swallow
#
So I found I do need to flash Tasmota on the Sonoff S31 which I might do because they are cheaper than the TPLink ones but not sure about soldering the sonoff
#
Also should've mentioned I'm in the US
unreal orbit
#
You don't have to solder to flash
orchid rose
#
the custom component should support S31 as well if you don't want to flash?
unreal orbit
#
Yeah but then you're reliant on a random chinese cloud platform
dark swallow
#
@unreal orbit Really I must be looking at an old tutorial
unreal orbit
#
You can solder, but you don't need to. You can just hold the wires in place while it flashes
#
You should only have to do it once
#
I have several sonoff devices that I've flashed, I've never soldered once
dark swallow
#
Ah I see! That makes sense! how do you hold the wires in place? Just your hands?
unreal orbit
#
Usually you can just let the weight of the device hold them in place if you can situate it right
#
I have held it with my hand before as well
#
If it fails you just try again, no harm no foul
dark swallow
#
True, but having limited time and since its for my brother might just do the TPLink so if something goes wrong and he needs to reflash down the road or get a new one I won't need to flash it again
unreal orbit
#
I love my TPLink devices. I've had no issues with them outside of just standard wifi shenanigans that is not the fault of the device
#
I don't have any energy monitoring plugs, but I have several of the standard plug and every light switch in my house is tplink
dark swallow
#
they don't need to connect to servers to work right? all local?
unreal orbit
#
Initial setup is through the kasa app, then it's all local
dark swallow
#
Cool that's what I thought!
unreal orbit
#
There might even be a way to set them up without the kasa app, but it's definitely the easiest way
dark swallow
#
I have 2 Wemo Mini's but the price jump to the energy monitoring ones is just too big
#
Yeah either way I am fine with it connecting to an outside server with tp link but I don't want all commands to be cloud based usually too slow
unreal orbit
#
Yeah all HA control is local (and in the kasa app there is local control as well when you're on the same network as the switches)
dark swallow
#
That's what I figured, why do the ones with energy monitoring have to be so big and oddly shaped! How do companies not realize people plug more than one thing into an outlet!!!!
clear ferry
#
@dark swallow are these too big?
dark swallow
#
Those might work too and the tplink ones should too I'll just have to change what outlets things are plugged into size shouldn't be that big of an issue for this but it might be in the future
unreal orbit
#
Plus you won't have to wait 6 weeks to get them ๐Ÿ˜‰
dark swallow
#
lol true to that!
clear ferry
dark swallow
