light trout
#

Want to ship some over the border?

maiden estuary
#

still need to look into that

shy comet
#

@light trout dont forget about the uber to your location ๐Ÿ˜‰

light trout
#

Uber is not allowed here ๐Ÿ˜‰

shy comet
#

ah lol

light trout
#

They tried, got sued and kicked out ๐Ÿ˜œ

shy comet
#

yea I want to brew my own beer as well @maiden estuary

#

@light trout tahts so typical of them lol....lets break the rules as much as possible and see what we get away with

light trout
#

We have a som strange laws here :/

#

You need to be certified by the state to be allow to take money for transporting persons

shy comet
#

oh like each person?

light trout
#

Yeah, each driver needs to be certified, and the company need to take an extensive test and do a 6mo trial

shy comet
#

wow

maiden estuary
#

do you record your home brew in untapped too @rancid lance

rancid lance
#

yes you can

#

you need to register a brewery then add your beers as homebrew

#

i got one on untappd

#

thats mine ๐Ÿ˜„

rancid lance
#

@smoky adder

#

my progress so far

smoky adder
#

damned... thats nice!

rancid lance

๐Ÿ˜›

wintry osprey
#

I might be dumb but donโ€™t understand the requirement there ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

What should the card display and when?

rancid lance
#

basically what im looking for is some sort of blank card a clean less look where i can post like lists and stuff

#

so i dont have to use attributues n stuff

wintry osprey
#

What would be the data source?

rancid lance
#

untappd

#

they have a wishlist on untappd that you can add the beers you want

#

so i scraped that list and it comes as a chunk atm

#

but we all know multilines doesnt look good in ha

wintry osprey
#

Can you make a http sensor?

#

Or something to have the list in config?

#

Than I can make you a card in a couple of hours

rancid lance
#

basically to emulate its simple enough to take a txt file and add more then a couple of lines

wintry osprey
#

I will make you a card that takes a multiline text sensor

#

And does a display and allows for custom css

#

Would that work?

rancid lance
#

the round cirle as an icon

#

yeah im open to anything ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

wintry osprey
#

Hmm

#

Is that multiline text?

#

Looks like single line

rancid lance
#
The Great Deciever West Coast Beersmiths
Flyktsoda IPA Omnipollo
Magic #411 Omnipollo
Hilma Omnipollo
Original Ice Cream Pale Ale Omnipollo
Milkshake IPA (Strawberry) Omnipollo
Half & Half Lemonade Iced Tea IPA Evil Twin Brewing
Habanero Sculpin Ballast Point Brewing Company
#

use that as example then

wintry osprey
#

Cool

rancid lance
#

thats my wishlist on untappd ๐Ÿ˜„

#

alot of cool beers ๐Ÿ˜›

wintry osprey
rancid lance
#

tnx ๐Ÿ˜ƒ your making a a dream of mine come true the automation of beer ๐Ÿ˜„

#

haha

wintry osprey
#

๐Ÿ˜„

wintry osprey
#

45 minutes to next meeting, let's see how far I get ๐Ÿ˜„

wintry osprey
#

30 minutes it seems I had

#

what I have so far

light trout
#

Is that a generic multiline card?

wintry osprey
#

kind of

#

still trying to figure out how to send content to it

#

template sensor only has 255 chars maximum

#

input text doesn't show up in hass.states

light trout
#

states has a limit of 255 not just the template sensor ;)

Invalid state encountered for entity id: sensor.test. State max length is 255 characters.
wintry osprey
#

if you have ideas of different approach happy to hear it

light trout
#

nope, none ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

Or, one maybe.. its "dirty"
add a new line for each attribute, then @rancid lance can assign each item in the wishlist as a seperate attribute?

wintry osprey
#

how can you define attributes for a sensor ?

light trout
rancid lance
#

thats an idea

wintry osprey
#

@light trout , what type of sensor is test ?

light trout
#

It does not exist, but is created if you hit "Set state" ๐Ÿ˜‰

wintry osprey
#

that will be interesting to use =))

#

a card that uses a non existing sensor

#

what the hell, i'll give it a try

#

omg, this works =))

light trout
#

it will exist after you set it ;)
Works for every domain, not just sensor ๐Ÿ˜‰

wintry osprey
#

no no

#

@light trout I mean it works with a custom card to appear when the sensor is set =))

light trout
#

awesome ๐Ÿ˜„

wintry osprey
#

want to test it out ?

light trout
#

soon (tm) @rancid lance maybe have some time now?

rancid lance
#

cant meetings n shit

#

got an image of the mook card ?

light trout
#

That looks freaking awesome!

wintry osprey
#

let me know when you guys happy with it, i'll merge it to master

i've corrected the docs a bit to be usable

rancid lance

rancid lance

nice got a working json

#

wintry osprey
#

@clever mortar what if I told you this is done ?

clever mortar
#

๐ŸŽ‰ I'll have a party, as it's one step closer to replacing Floorplan ๐Ÿ˜„

wintry osprey
#

let me tease you with a gif

#

want to try it out ?

clever mortar
#

Until I can do custom entity shapes, there's little point to be honest, but thanks

#

I believe that's coming in the next version of Lovelace, so then I can really replace Floorplan

#

I am very much loving Lovelace - a stock UI that's going to be useful to "normal" people ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Just need to work out if the tint of the icon/title bar in picture-glance is changeable - it's a little too light

#

(or I need to change my images ๐Ÿคท )

wintry osprey
#

oh well

#

I'll post the custom entity anyway, maybe someone finds some use for it

clever mortar
#

For building my floorplan it will be critical

#

But right now, I'd not actually use it, other than to run the mouse over it and go ooooooooh ๐Ÿ˜›

clever mortar
#

beer card ๐Ÿคฃ

bitter gazelle
#

That really kicks in about 20 seconds in

rancid lance
#

made a down and dirty bash script to generate the json from the data

#

next up lovelace ๐Ÿ˜„

shy comet

ahahah love it beer card ๐Ÿ˜„

rancid lance

hehe mega patch tuesday

yea im installing that now lol

rancid lance

now with icon pictures ๐Ÿ˜›

#

for the connoisseur of Beers

orchid rose
#

what is this beer thing I see going on here? Can't be bothered to check the whole discussion above to find out the origins

#

some sort of a project with hass? What's the idea?

shy comet
#

to let your house know how drunk you are

rancid lance
#

untapped with hass

#

if you dont know what untappd is then google ๐Ÿ˜›

shy comet
#

@rancid lance you need to work on a Vino integration ๐Ÿ˜›

rancid lance

hey man i need some kinda parental guidance

#

if that role has to fall to hass

orchid rose

yeah not much of a beer drinker here either ๐Ÿ˜›

rancid lance

is being finish and not drinking beer allowed ?

orchid rose

not sure actually, I try to hide it

#

I got two bottles of beer in the fridge to fool people

rancid lance

nah, actually some proper stuff, let's see

rancid lance

Struise Pannepot and the same but older reserve

rancid lance

ohh

that is indeed some nice stuff

orchid rose

all that's left of my belgium beer order, but as I said it's not my thing that much. Not like it's bad though but I like whisky better

vast dove

We need a Vivino integration... beer... meh..

@wintry osprey where is the custom vivino card?? ๐Ÿ˜„

wintry osprey

LOL

i get home, bring my michelob ultra in, grab one out of the box, and its a teeny weenie 8 oz can lol! wth!! i didnt even notice at the store... feels like taking a shot of beer.

normal ferry

in hassbian what are the passwords for the other users besides 'pi' ?

'homeassistant' and 'root' ?

i'll never understand that stuff

light trout

amber bramble

Woah, when did letsencrypt start doing free wildcart certs

shy comet
#

i think they announced that a couple months ago

amber bramble
#

Thats good because my wildcard cert expires in a week and i don't really feel like shelling out $90 for a new one

rancid lance
#

nice need me some wildcard certs

#

should really generatate a cert..

#

takes out my long ass todo list

amber bramble
#

"Certbot's DNS plugins which can be used to automate obtaining a wildcard certificate from Let's Encrypt's ACMEv2 server are not available for your OS yet." ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

#

looks like i can get around it by using docker

#

but i don't want to use docker because its new and get off my lawn :shakes fist at cloud:

shy comet
#

i need to just suck it up and pay for a cert that lasts longer than 90 days lol

clever mortar
#

Pffft, LetsEncrypt is free, and it works ๐Ÿคท

amber bramble
#

"works"

#

i'm currently fighting to get certbot installed on my pi lol

shy comet
#

it is and thats why i havent changed anything but you need to be mindful of it

clever mortar
#

I just installed certbot-auto from source, and it worked

#

You do have to forward port 80 to your Pi though for HTTP based auth

shy comet
#

like for example if your cert expires in 7 days and you are about to go on a 10 day vacation better hope you know how to manually run certbot ๐Ÿ˜›

clever mortar
#

Manually?

#

cron

shy comet
#

@clever mortar you still need to restart for it to take place

clever mortar
#

cron ๐Ÿ˜›

shy comet
#

i dont know about you but id rather not restart when im not around to bring things up in case they fail

clever mortar
#

Actually, for me it's just NGINX

shy comet
#

ditto ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

clever mortar
#

/usr/local/bin/certbot-auto renew --post-hook "systemctl restart nginx"

shy comet
#

ah ok, i guess id rather just not worry about it when im gone

clever mortar
#

I don't change the NGINX config enough for it to be a risk, and if I do, I always config check and restart

amber bramble
#

thank you, certbot :/

still trying to talk the wife into letting me brew my own ๐Ÿค”

clever mortar
#

Visit the Beer Factory if there's one near you ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

That'll give you the "evidence" you need

rancid lance
#

haha well you need a good brewing kit

#

guessing beer52 should have that

#

most of the ordering sites has

maiden estuary
#

haha, just looked @clever mortar - one in Bristol which is about 2 hours away,, good idea

clever mortar
#

It also makes a good group event

maiden estuary
#

worth a thought then

maiden estuary
#

that's what I'm probably thinking about getting

orchid rose
#

Running more and more wifi devices seems to make my router reboot randomly and some devices lose connection once a day or so. What price range should I be looking at to get a half decent wifi router? Any recommendations?

clever mortar
#

UniFi

#

Either the NanoHD, or the AP-AC-HD (effectively its big brother) most likely

rancid lance
#

@maiden estuary perfect

orchid rose
#

so those are in the 200โ‚ฌ to 300โ‚ฌ price range. Are they worth the money compared to cheaper stuff?

clever mortar
#

Yes

#

You get a router (USG) that sits near your connection to your ISP, and an AP that sits in the middle of your house so everything gets good signal

#

Or multiple APs around the house as you need

orchid rose
#

hmm, interesting although I'm not sure I need the extra range. I'm more interested in stability and the software

clever mortar
#

They are stable, and the HD models are designed for a high number of clients

#

Though, depending on what that number is, more than one AP will benefit everything

maiden estuary
#

plus subnets ๐Ÿ˜‰

clever mortar
#

With VLANs you can provide a guest WiFi that can only access the Internet too ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

orchid rose
#

that could be useful

onyx gyro
#

its also worth seperating your IoT devices and your personal comupters into different vlans

maiden estuary
#

there is no reason at all your light switch should be allowed to access the internet, be sure it isn't

clever mortar
#

Just watch that doing that will require "some fiddling" to ensure HA can talk to them all

rancid lance
#

dont get the edge-x router if your opting to replace that

#

get the er3 or higher

clever mortar
#

If you're going UniFi, stick with the USG or USG-4

rancid lance
#

im using my er-x as a switch these days

#

and amplifyhd as my router

onyx gyro
#

i'm so going to buy all unify once i can move into my house. sad i got a notification that building auth will take +5 months more to approve -.-

orchid rose
#

half of these terms tell nothing to me so I'll have to read up I guess ๐Ÿ˜„

rancid lance
#

thats the one i got

#
Amplifi Wi-Fi

The AmpliFiโ„ข HD (High Density) Mesh Router can be used as a stand-alone router or with other AmpliFiโ„ข Mesh Routers for multi-hop, self-healing wireless coverage and enhanced range. For a typical home, the Router alone delivers maximum throughput to meet your streaming and...

onyx gyro
#

whats the diff from those edge routers to a security gateway?

rancid lance
#

as my main router

clever mortar
#

USG is integrated with the UniFi console, Edge isn't

#

So if you're getting some of their Access Points, everything shows up in the same UI

onyx gyro
#

ah cool

rancid lance
#

yeah if you want it all in unify the go for USG

clever mortar
#

More so if you buy some of their UniFi switches

rancid lance
#

is usg user friendly @clever mortar ?

clever mortar
#

Yup

rancid lance
#

its not like the edge-x router then ๐Ÿ˜›

clever mortar
#

I've a couple of friends who use them, and they're not that technical

#

No. I use the Edge range at work, and it's a "proper" router. The USG has a pretty GUI to make life easy (and the command line too)

#

You can do everything on the USG through their UniFi app

orchid rose
#

Ubiquiti has hass integration for device tracking it seems. Anyone have any experience with it?

clever mortar
#

You can even drive the UniFi app without any UniFi kit

rancid lance
clever mortar
#

I keep forgetting the Edge has a gui

#

Most of mine are at the far end of VPN links ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

I've not used the integration, still trying to work out the wife approved combination of kit to get UniFi going here

rancid lance
#

edge has umns

clever mortar
#

Thought I'd found it, then discovered that where I need to put the AP I don't have the right PoE...

rancid lance
#

cant u connect to unify via umns ?

clever mortar
#

No - they're separate

#

I believe there's a long term plan to support it, but UniFi and long term.... ๐Ÿคท

rancid lance
#

yeah the devs are really receptive of adding new features and talking to users

#

kinda active on their amplifyhd forum and on the ubiquity forum

#

but i wished i bought the er3

#

for the space alone

#

cause space on edge-x sucks

#
aufs 214.9M 148.1M 62.1M 70% /
#

its nice and all that they provide debian packages

#

but having to remote mount in order to install stuff sucks

#

๐Ÿคท

orchid rose
#

oh right those Ubiquiti routers only have one or two ethernet ports... that won't do for me

rancid lance
#

err

#

no they have more

#

mine has 5

#

one in and 4 out

#

so might wanna check more before demissing it so easily

#

its only the security gateway that has 3

#

thats cause it is what it says it is a firewall

orchid rose
#

the wifi APs?

clever mortar
#

Just connect a switch @orchid rose

orchid rose
#

could always do that but would rather have just one device ofc

clever mortar
#

I only use one port on my ISP provided router, that goes to a 16 port switch

rancid lance
#

the aps are for wifi ๐Ÿ˜†

#

hence the term access point

#

not meant to be a router

orchid rose
#

I don't see why you'd have to separate the two though

rancid lance
#

really ?

#

then this might not be right for you

#

get asus like the rest ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

clever mortar
#

The point is that you end up with a number of devices that do one thing really well rather than one device that does everything mostly ok

rancid lance
#

the befefits are way more better then a tradtional AIO router

#

cause if want better wifi just replace the ap

#

at low cost

clever mortar
#

Need better WiFi coverage, add another AP

rancid lance
#

indeedยจ

#

with a traditional SOHO router you have to get a brand new one

#

lol

orchid rose
#

I get that point of view but it's not what I'm really looking for so I don't see the reason to split the two

rancid lance
#

get asus youll be fine with that

#

that should cover your needs then

orchid rose
#

I find it hard to believe that a good wifi router wouldn't be able to run wired connections just fine

#

Asus etc seem like decent options but I have no clue about how well they'd work. Also they are really fucking ugly ๐Ÿ˜„

clever mortar
#

Well, we've given you some pretty big hints about how well they work by comparison, but you don't seem to want to hear ๐Ÿ˜‰

@rancid lance your image gave me an idea ๐Ÿ˜„

how about a weather card that shows clouds / rain / sun with beautiful images like that based on time of day ๐Ÿ˜„

so you can just take a short peak and not have to worry to identify symbols

dull chasm
#

damn ... you gonna make me do some lovelace with that @wintry osprey

rancid lance
#

yeah ๐Ÿ˜„

#

it could get its data from the sun component

#

great idea @wintry osprey

wintry osprey
#

I think i'll build one after I finish this updater platform for custom cards

#

refactored the initial one from @light trout and added caching and split check from update and created more services, now I got to the sensor

#

I want it to auto register and refresh state after service calls

rancid lance
#

reworked it a bit

#

gonna darken the picture too

#

so the clock is more visable

wintry osprey
#

to be honest this would be doable without custom card if we get the new feature request implemented for smarter state_image

rancid lance
#

yeah

#

that would be better

#

something im missing from picture element is adding basic text

wintry osprey
maiden estuary
#

Add a link to any breaking changes maybe too @wintry osprey ?

wintry osprey
#

already in plan

#

I'll just link to changelog

#

harder to keep track of breaking changes at the moment

#

and rollback should be easy, you just go and put in your older version by hand

light trout
#

How about a version option for the upgrade service?

wintry osprey
#

could do as enhancement

#

the update_card service atm is not used

#

i'm using update_cards service with no parameters

#

@light trout what do you think? can the merge go in for custom_cards component or should I ask people to test using my fork until you have time to review?

light trout
#

@wintry osprey I think its only we that have used it, if you are comfortable with it merge it ๐Ÿ˜‰

wintry osprey
#

ok

#

going ahead

light trout

light trout

wintry osprey

nope, or maybe ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

#

the sensor wasn't getting updates because the "state" was always 'Active'

everyone happy now

http://a.co/0lEN1WE for the wall mount
haven't gotten the PoE injectors for the bedroom ones yet too hot to get up in the attic and pull any kind of cables

the one in the living room i just stuck an old work box in the wall with the PoE->usb adapter and plugged the usb cable in it, and put a blank coverplate over it with a small notch for the usb cable to come out

that is a good idea, what poe injectors do you use?

how do we check

rancid lance
#

check what ?

#

if your infected ? well if you got an older router with an really old firmware begin with flashing a new firmware to it if its available : )

#

thats always a start

#

if its an isp router then call your isp and check if your router is running the latest firmware

#

always a start ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

dry cairn
#

woot woot got my prusa mk3 yesterday and after 11 hours of assembling its working

rancid lance
#

awwn what a cute little boat ๐Ÿ˜› are you gonna play with it ? ๐Ÿ˜›

dry cairn
#

its a benchy to test the printer

rancid lance
#

"bench" "test"

dry cairn
#

yep its a torture test for printers

#

if the benchy comes out like crap you did it wrong

#

that was the first ever print right after turning it on

agile sinew
#

@dry cairn send it my way

#

the printer, not benchy

dry cairn
#

get your own ๐Ÿ˜‚

#

but now i know why the prusa ppl charge 200$ to assemble the damn thing

agile sinew
#

with some upgrades

dry cairn
#

man you should go for the prusa mk3

agile sinew
#

!$200

#

err, ~$200 for the Ender 3

dry cairn
#

i got 9 other printers from various manufacturers and this one is just the best one so far

agile sinew
#

I have a Tiertime Up! Plus

dry cairn
#

no endstops trinamic drivers

agile sinew
#

Which one?

dry cairn
#

prusa mk3

agile sinew
#

Yeah well, its way out of my price range

dry cairn
#

700$ for the kit

#

assemble yourself

agile sinew
#

vs $300 for the Ender 3 and the paid upgrades I'll do to it

#

And its prints will rival a mk3

dry cairn
#

dunno

#

but this thing is amazing

#

no ringing no vibrations

agile sinew
#

I'll have to pay more if I want to print stuff like TPU, but for now ABS (to use up what I have) and PLA are fine

dry cairn
#

i was sceptical about the mk3 too but i finally bit the bullet

agile sinew
#

I know someone with one, he loves it

dry cairn
#

i got some nice printing printers but shit this one takes the cake

agile sinew
#

I mean know in person, not internet know

hoary tree
#

that print looks great

dry cairn
#

the loudest part of it is the psu lol

dry cairn
#

can barely hear the steppers

dry cairn
#

i heard the cr10 is nice

#

i'm waiting for prusa to ship the multi filament addon

agile sinew
#

It is, just more than I want to pay

#

someone is working on a multi-filament addon for the ender3

dry cairn
#

prolly a prusa clone ๐Ÿ˜‚

agile sinew
#

nope, 3 filament

dry cairn
#

ima print the display case to add a rpi with a octoprint display later on

pure vine
#

@rancid lance ahh, im probably not affected, that reminds me that i need to update my router back to openwrt now they merged

agile sinew
#

@pure vine what merged?

pure vine
#

openwrt and LEDE

agile sinew
#

ahh, i run enterprise grade now ๐Ÿ˜‰

peak cloud
rancid lance

haha

#

#

shit

#

i would be dead

#

is it dry or is it humid ?

#

cause that makes all the differance when its hot

peak cloud
#

Very humid.

#

Actually, today it is only 24% humidity outside! Iโ€™m surprised, very surprised. I think normal is 45%+ around here.

#

When I go to Las Vegas, I drink even more water than I normally do (probably 5-7L on a normal day), and I still get extremely dehydrated. Las Vegas is a very dry heat.

so, taking the plunge... HomeAssistant, Hass.io, HassOS, Hassbian.... too many alternatives for my Pi ๐Ÿ˜ƒ any help what to choose?

@golden schooner I'm all for HassOS on the Raspberry Pi. ๐Ÿ˜‰

golden schooner

thx

#

I am running Blynk server also

on my raspbian

#

this si not possible on hass.io since the hass.io is too specific install

light trout
#

Looks like it would be an easy addon, just a java server, with minimal config and there is already a docker option

golden schooner
#

interesting... Blynk server in hassio as addon

light trout

should be doable

golden schooner

because is a bitch to make it manualy ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@peak cloud your jeep is in eco mode

light trout
onyx gyro

cool. didnt know that. as you gave it a try, did it increase/decrease performance somehow? luckly prime will get me an SD by tomorrow

light trout
#

I have not tried it, I have more SD cards than I can ever use :P
But I doubt you will see a drop in preformance, possibly you will increase stability

onyx gyro
#

i sadly only got one sd card left

#

lol

light trout
#

That's to big ๐Ÿ˜œ

rancid lance

works better then sd

has better read write speeds

got it on my mediacenter running on pidrive

$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
 Timing cached reads: 862 MB in 2.00 seconds = 430.72 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 96 MB in 3.02 seconds = 31.78 MB/sec
`
$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/mmcblk0p2

/dev/mmcblk0p2:
 Timing cached reads: 538 MB in 2.00 seconds = 268.45 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 62 MB in 3.10 seconds = 20.02 MB/sec
#

there is quite a nice performance boost of running it on usb
