still need to look into that
@light trout dont forget about the uber to your location ๐
Uber is not allowed here ๐
ah lol
They tried, got sued and kicked out ๐
yea I want to brew my own beer as well @maiden estuary
@light trout tahts so typical of them lol....lets break the rules as much as possible and see what we get away with
We have a som strange laws here :/
You need to be certified by the state to be allow to take money for transporting persons
oh like each person?
Yeah, each driver needs to be certified, and the company need to take an extensive test and do a 6mo trial
wow
do you record your home brew in untapped too @rancid lance
yes you can
you need to register a brewery then add your beers as homebrew
i got one on untappd
thats mine ๐
damned... thats nice!
@light trout teh proof ๐
I might be dumb but donโt understand the requirement there ๐
What should the card display and when?
basically what im looking for is some sort of blank card a clean less look where i can post like lists and stuff
so i dont have to use attributues n stuff
What would be the data source?
untappd
they have a wishlist on untappd that you can add the beers you want
so i scraped that list and it comes as a chunk atm
but we all know multilines doesnt look good in ha
Can you make a http sensor?
Or something to have the list in config?
Than I can make you a card in a couple of hours
basically to emulate its simple enough to take a txt file and add more then a couple of lines
I will make you a card that takes a multiline text sensor
And does a display and allows for custom css
Would that work?
The Great Deciever West Coast Beersmiths
Flyktsoda IPA Omnipollo
Magic #411 Omnipollo
Hilma Omnipollo
Original Ice Cream Pale Ale Omnipollo
Milkshake IPA (Strawberry) Omnipollo
Half & Half Lemonade Iced Tea IPA Evil Twin Brewing
Habanero Sculpin Ballast Point Brewing Company
use that as example then
Cool
๐
45 minutes to next meeting, let's see how far I get ๐
Is that a generic multiline card?
kind of
still trying to figure out how to send content to it
template sensor only has 255 chars maximum
input text doesn't show up in hass.states
states has a limit of 255 not just the template sensor ;)
Invalid state encountered for entity id: sensor.test. State max length is 255 characters.
if you have ideas of different approach happy to hear it
nope, none ๐ฆ
Or, one maybe.. its "dirty"
add a new line for each attribute, then @rancid lance can assign each item in the wishlist as a seperate attribute?
how can you define attributes for a sensor ?
for a test, you can do it in
thats an idea
@light trout , what type of sensor is test ?
It does not exist, but is created if you hit "Set state" ๐
that will be interesting to use =))
a card that uses a non existing sensor
what the hell, i'll give it a try
omg, this works =))
it will exist after you set it ;)
Works for every domain, not just sensor ๐
no no
@light trout I mean it works with a custom card to appear when the sensor is set =))
awesome ๐
want to test it out ?
soon (tm) @rancid lance maybe have some time now?
That looks freaking awesome!
let me know when you guys happy with it, i'll merge it to master
i've corrected the docs a bit to be usable
โค
what do you guys think of https://github.com/ciotlosm/custom-lovelace/issues/32 ?
useful ?
@clever mortar what if I told you this is done ?
๐ I'll have a party, as it's one step closer to replacing Floorplan ๐
Until I can do custom entity shapes, there's little point to be honest, but thanks
I believe that's coming in the next version of Lovelace, so then I can really replace Floorplan
I am very much loving Lovelace - a stock UI that's going to be useful to "normal" people ๐
Just need to work out if the tint of the icon/title bar in picture-glance is changeable - it's a little too light
(or I need to change my images ๐คท )
For building my floorplan it will be critical
But right now, I'd not actually use it, other than to run the mouse over it and go ooooooooh ๐
beer card ๐คฃ
Aly and I went to magic mountain to ride rollercoaster for her birth day and we filmed it with the new Fusion from @gopro . This is just footage put through ...
That really kicks in about 20 seconds in
made a down and dirty bash script to generate the json from the data
next up lovelace ๐
ahahah love it beer card ๐
hehe mega patch tuesday
yea im installing that now lol
what is this beer thing I see going on here? Can't be bothered to check the whole discussion above to find out the origins
some sort of a project with hass? What's the idea?
to let your house know how drunk you are
@rancid lance you need to work on a Vino integration ๐
yeah not much of a beer drinker here either ๐
I'm very unlike my countrymen in many ways
is such a thing even allowed
not sure actually, I try to hide it
I got two bottles of beer in the fridge to fool people
nah, actually some proper stuff, let's see
Struise Pannepot and the same but older reserve
all that's left of my belgium beer order, but as I said it's not my thing that much. Not like it's bad though but I like whisky better
We need a Vivino integration... beer... meh..
@wintry osprey where is the custom vivino card?? ๐
:))
LOL
i get home, bring my michelob ultra in, grab one out of the box, and its a teeny weenie 8 oz can lol! wth!! i didnt even notice at the store... feels like taking a shot of beer.
in hassbian what are the passwords for the other users besides 'pi' ?
'homeassistant' and 'root' ?
Secret...
i found online that it is a passwordless system account
that you access like this: sudo su -s /bin/bash homeassistant
correct
You can also run hashell that is a shortcut for the line
well it is possible
the vivino stuff
js
so you can have your wine cards ๐
seems like the have an api
Vivinoย is one of the top wine apps out there, featuring the ability to get tons of information about a specific wine by taking a photo of the label. In my experience, it works well and can be very useful for the wine enthusiast. After some use of the app, Iย becameย interest...
found only one scraper
Woah, when did letsencrypt start doing free wildcart certs
i think they announced that a couple months ago
Thats good because my wildcard cert expires in a week and i don't really feel like shelling out $90 for a new one
nice need me some wildcard certs
should really generatate a cert..
takes out my long ass todo list
"Certbot's DNS plugins which can be used to automate obtaining a wildcard certificate from Let's Encrypt's ACMEv2 server are not available for your OS yet." ๐ฆ
looks like i can get around it by using docker
but i don't want to use docker because its new and get off my lawn :shakes fist at cloud:
i need to just suck it up and pay for a cert that lasts longer than 90 days lol
Pffft, LetsEncrypt is free, and it works ๐คท
it is and thats why i havent changed anything but you need to be mindful of it
I just installed certbot-auto from source, and it worked
You do have to forward port 80 to your Pi though for HTTP based auth
like for example if your cert expires in 7 days and you are about to go on a 10 day vacation better hope you know how to manually run certbot ๐
@clever mortar you still need to restart for it to take place
cron ๐
i dont know about you but id rather not restart when im not around to bring things up in case they fail
Actually, for me it's just NGINX
ditto ๐
/usr/local/bin/certbot-auto renew --post-hook "systemctl restart nginx"
ah ok, i guess id rather just not worry about it when im gone
I don't change the NGINX config enough for it to be a risk, and if I do, I always config check and restart
๐คฃ
and Wildcard domains are not supported: *.my.domain
well atleast i have a week to get it figured out
i just spend 5 minutes on startssl.com and use the online tool ๐
but i have to update the cert in a couple places until i can consolidate things
startssl has $17 wildcards?!
Where? I see wildcards starting at $80
oh i didn't actually log in
the homepage on startssl.com shows a DV SSL option for $17.90 and lists Wildcard as "Yes"
you should send that camera back they forgot the colors
had to pay extra for that ๐
nice
tried the Stout first, really nice
nice ๐
thinking of placing an order soon from https://shop.mikkeller.dk/collections/beer
still trying to talk the wife into letting me brew my own ๐ค
Visit the Beer Factory if there's one near you ๐
That'll give you the "evidence" you need
haha well you need a good brewing kit
guessing beer52 should have that
most of the ordering sites has
haha, just looked @clever mortar - one in Bristol which is about 2 hours away,, good idea
It also makes a good group event
worth a thought then
that's what I'm probably thinking about getting
Running more and more wifi devices seems to make my router reboot randomly and some devices lose connection once a day or so. What price range should I be looking at to get a half decent wifi router? Any recommendations?
UniFi
Either the NanoHD, or the AP-AC-HD (effectively its big brother) most likely
@maiden estuary perfect
so those are in the 200โฌ to 300โฌ price range. Are they worth the money compared to cheaper stuff?
Yes
You get a router (USG) that sits near your connection to your ISP, and an AP that sits in the middle of your house so everything gets good signal
Or multiple APs around the house as you need
hmm, interesting although I'm not sure I need the extra range. I'm more interested in stability and the software
They are stable, and the HD models are designed for a high number of clients
Though, depending on what that number is, more than one AP will benefit everything
plus subnets ๐
With VLANs you can provide a guest WiFi that can only access the Internet too ๐
that could be useful
its also worth seperating your IoT devices and your personal comupters into different vlans
there is no reason at all your light switch should be allowed to access the internet, be sure it isn't
Just watch that doing that will require "some fiddling" to ensure HA can talk to them all
If you're going UniFi, stick with the USG or USG-4
i'm so going to buy all unify once i can move into my house. sad i got a notification that building auth will take +5 months more to approve -.-
half of these terms tell nothing to me so I'll have to read up I guess ๐
thats the one i got
but i opted to run https://store.amplifi.com/products/amplifi-mesh-router
whats the diff from those edge routers to a security gateway?
as my main router
USG is integrated with the UniFi console, Edge isn't
So if you're getting some of their Access Points, everything shows up in the same UI
ah cool
yeah if you want it all in unify the go for USG
More so if you buy some of their UniFi switches
is usg user friendly @clever mortar ?
Yup
its not like the edge-x router then ๐
I've a couple of friends who use them, and they're not that technical
No. I use the Edge range at work, and it's a "proper" router. The USG has a pretty GUI to make life easy (and the command line too)
You can do everything on the USG through their UniFi app
Ubiquiti has hass integration for device tracking it seems. Anyone have any experience with it?
You can even drive the UniFi app without any UniFi kit
although i love the ui for edge-x
I keep forgetting the Edge has a gui
Most of mine are at the far end of VPN links ๐
I've not used the integration, still trying to work out the wife approved combination of kit to get UniFi going here
edge has umns
Thought I'd found it, then discovered that where I need to put the AP I don't have the right PoE...
cant u connect to unify via umns ?
No - they're separate
I believe there's a long term plan to support it, but UniFi and long term.... ๐คท
yeah the devs are really receptive of adding new features and talking to users
kinda active on their amplifyhd forum and on the ubiquity forum
but i wished i bought the er3
for the space alone
cause space on edge-x sucks
aufs 214.9M 148.1M 62.1M 70% /
its nice and all that they provide debian packages
but having to remote mount in order to install stuff sucks
๐คท
oh right those Ubiquiti routers only have one or two ethernet ports... that won't do for me
err
no they have more
mine has 5
one in and 4 out
so might wanna check more before demissing it so easily
its only the security gateway that has 3
thats cause it is what it says it is a firewall
the wifi APs?
Just connect a switch @orchid rose
could always do that but would rather have just one device ofc
I only use one port on my ISP provided router, that goes to a 16 port switch
I don't see why you'd have to separate the two though
The point is that you end up with a number of devices that do one thing really well rather than one device that does everything mostly ok
the befefits are way more better then a tradtional AIO router
cause if want better wifi just replace the ap
at low cost
Need better WiFi coverage, add another AP
I get that point of view but it's not what I'm really looking for so I don't see the reason to split the two
I find it hard to believe that a good wifi router wouldn't be able to run wired connections just fine
Asus etc seem like decent options but I have no clue about how well they'd work. Also they are really fucking ugly ๐
Well, we've given you some pretty big hints about how well they work by comparison, but you don't seem to want to hear ๐
Yes! Need this
@clever mortar @dry cairn does this mean since my wife is not home that she is connected to network thru wan
Oooh. Ummmm. VPN?
no
or she left the phone at home ๐
no she has it
then its not marked as away lol
wonder if it mqtt and owntracks
wth is that thing that visualizes it
maps in controller
that thing has a map?
yep
๐ค
oh topology
i'm not sure you can use that for real time
i think it shows everything
that was ever on it
it only toke about 2 min and it showed like that when she left
and no.... it toke my old netgear switch off
just looked at it on mine and yeah it looks like its somewhat real time
and it looks like there s a new update
0.11.2 to 0.11.4
on what
cloud key
any grafana experts
๐ฅ for me right now
Juiced In Time Ilkley Brewery Co. on Untappd http://untp.beer/3165
Just tried one of these.. rather unimpressed
Untappd: Lastest Beer Check-in
Pango IPA (5.9%)
reworking it in my drunk state ๐
i see that its not catching abv perfectly
slaps @peak cloud to wake up :D
lovely weather ๐
@rancid lance your image gave me an idea ๐
how about a weather card that shows clouds / rain / sun with beautiful images like that based on time of day ๐
so you can just take a short peak and not have to worry to identify symbols
damn ... you gonna make me do some lovelace with that @wintry osprey
I think i'll build one after I finish this updater platform for custom cards
refactored the initial one from @light trout and added caching and split check from update and created more services, now I got to the sensor
I want it to auto register and refresh state after service calls
to be honest this would be doable without custom card if we get the new feature request implemented for smarter state_image
yeah
that would be better
something im missing from picture element is adding basic text
Add a link to any breaking changes maybe too @wintry osprey ?
already in plan
I'll just link to changelog
harder to keep track of breaking changes at the moment
and rollback should be easy, you just go and put in your older version by hand
How about a version option for the upgrade service?
could do as enhancement
the update_card service atm is not used
i'm using update_cards service with no parameters
@light trout what do you think? can the merge go in for custom_cards component or should I ask people to test using my fork until you have time to review?
@wintry osprey I think its only we that have used it, if you are comfortable with it merge it ๐
Awesome ๐๐ฏ
Probably my fault ๐
nope, or maybe ๐
the sensor wasn't getting updates because the "state" was always 'Active'
and somewhere someone was filtering if state was the same, no updates were sent
I've changed the state of the sensor to be time.time()
everyone happy now
Nice!! ๐ฏ
Monoprice has $5 off orders of $25+ right now, and it can be redeemed on two separate orders
you can get a zwave+ multisensor for $22.99
is there any way to subscribe to keywords on discord?
and there is no external client you can use to get this functionality?
Not that I know of
Your fridge is too cold
bah yeah
its a shit fridge and the landlord is too cheap to replace it
should say freezer ๐
With those temps it's a freezer ๐
Anyone successfully stream audio from a linux box to an airplay receiver (like appletv or homepod)?
๐คฃ
๐ฟ for all
hehe
couple ๐ป wont hurt
not to much to
hey hey hey i cracked that one yesterday
i cracked one right now ๐
seems that i have to do picture element for last check in and badge too
you must own that site to run that much advertising for it
u must own trolls.com the way you talk ๐ค
not really i'm just pointing out your annoying posts
point taken sorry to inconvience you
but if your easily offended there a simple way just ignore the posts
meeh not really i just simple dont give a fuck ๐
haha no
not having a stroke or anything?
good good i heard too much alcohol makes ppl easily mad
ahh well its all fake news
#fakenews
can we all take a moment to agree that zigbee is terrible and needs to go away
only if you include zwave
zwave is bad too, but not as miserable as the zigbee ecosystem
yeah.. zigbee multisensor is like $10, vs $30 for a cheap zwave one
Hah I made the opposite move and replaced a few zwave switches out with zigbee bulbs
I see there is a new sheriff in town, @junior forge ๐
In case someone feels the need to chill, I'm live on stream again tonight ๐
Anyone successfully stream audio from a linux box to an airplay receiver (like appletv or homepod)?
darnit, I have a soundbar on my TV hooked up with an optical cable. my TV has an API (vizio smartcast) for volume control, but it can't control volume level over the optical out ๐ฆ
yep for some reason thats a thing nowadays
also my synology is stupid slow lol. 3 days in and it's backed up 348GB to Backblaze B2 out of 1.5T...
cpu on it has been pegged at 100% since it started
yeah not a big fan of those
for the same price you can get a huge server
i sniped a 128 core 2 blade poweredge with a tb of ram for 700$ on ebay last year now its my plex server
there must be some kind of way....
Is there any good smart home stuff on sale for prime day?
depends what coutry your in
some say some unholy things happen on prime day
the only thing on sale right now are amazon devices so if u want an echo or a fire stick or a ring device now is your time to buy it
hues are on sale here if that's your thing
rings and HS100 smart plugs too, but seen all cheaper through out the year
fire stick for $20 USD is a steal though
i always like to look at prime day as a day for black friday prices on amazon stuff and a gigantic garage sale
most of the stuff is random
$23 128gb microsd
thats actually really good
i am in the us
i bought another 8" kindle fire
I have been THINKING about some tablet mounts on the wall. I am going for the hd8 3 pack right now. Any other ideas? LOL
resisted the urge to buy 2 more of them for now lol
๐
also bought wall mounts and magnetic usb cables for them so i can get them wall mounted
that finishes out the bedrooms
i'm debating between putting tablets above the light switches in the bathrooms or building magic mirrors
are you doing the recessed wall mounts like this? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VYDHCY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 with magnetic cables and this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3MGNTO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A20MPUX9Q5DP5P&psc=1
what case are you using?
easier (and cheaper) to run cat5 than romex
agreed are you still using wifi for the tablet or use the ethernet somehow?
http://a.co/e62MLH5 for the usb cables
http://a.co/0lEN1WE for the wall mount
haven't gotten the PoE injectors for the bedroom ones yet too hot to get up in the attic and pull any kind of cables
the one in the living room i just stuck an old work box in the wall with the PoE->usb adapter and plugged the usb cable in it, and put a blank coverplate over it with a small notch for the usb cable to come out
that is a good idea, what poe injectors do you use?
I am also using those same mounts that you have.
http://a.co/0yjvQzQ is what i used for poe to usb
has its own injector, it doesn't use a poe switch
the ethernet cable at the switch has an injector?
oh wait I see the ethernet cable carries JUST power... alright that is a lot simpler!
yeah
but i thought dahua was the bestest ip camera money could buy! ๐
even more reason to keep ipcams on a vlan with no internet access
like many of these lately could have been avoided by updating...
Ok microsoft
I'm done
You've killed the unicorn... good job ๐
hehehe this sucks ๐ฆ
they forgot to reboot windows there, memory leaks caused the outage
Thats funny, because it's probably true...
The story of migrating Hotmail away from FreeBSD to Windows is a good read. For all the things they learned the hard way (and how it resulted in a better Windows)
@clever mortar Did you just put Better and Windows in the same sentence?
actually next to each other! that's even wrong!!!
And I did deploy Windows NT 3.1
Trust me, it's a lot better than it used to be ๐คฃ
lol - yes, I remember those NT4 and Windows 3.1 days
I still have Windows 95 installer/setup file. Apparently you can deploy it on Raspberry Pi
Hah
it is like 20MB or so
yes - I can upload that to my github - not sure if I am allowed or not
Well... nowadays the visit of the average homepage transfers more data... then the original Doom game was in total size... so yeah
things changed ๐
Amazon is getting a big hug from the US today.
If anyone has found any good Amazon PrimeDay wifi switches/plugs/lights/etc that integrate w/ HomeAssistant can you liink them here? I'm having a hard time finding one sthat will work with hass
@lilac idol follow this...
lol i can't even load up the list of amazon prime deals
someone has the exact problem earlier and the solution I proposed worked for him. You might want to try that too. @lilac idol
@amber bramble why not? everyone should be able to post images here in this channel
amazon's site just keeps taking me around in circles without showing any actual deals
same here
lol - they may have blacklisted you guys ๐
TP-Link has single HS200 switches for $35
oh, 25 i guess.
and dimmers drop from 60 to 48 -- still a little expensive to me
yep - https://amzn.to/2uuJj5O
they were on sale the other day too - for the same price
I spent $37.88 earlier
getting a 503 service unavailable error now on amazon
wow! - 503 means server is busy - they need to scale up
2-pack of HS105 (smart plugs) are on sale for $39.99 - https://amzn.to/2NW3YI3 (affiliate link, easier to copy/paste for me)
what are other popular choices? looks like wemo isn't on sale, any others i should consider?
I use Wemo, TPLink Kasa and very happy with all of them
if hass supported the tp-link kasa dimmer (H220) I'd probably scoop up 3 of them
for a company like Amazon that touts AWS they tend to suck sometimes lol
like their site is messed up now
i cannot even load an amazon search
yet companies scour to join AWS cloud smh
if you cant keep your own site up how do you expect others to trust you during their own high load ๐
amazon just announced that their servers are running on Microsoft Azure
they announced that without them actually knowing
lol
all pepole wnat to shop is for deals and they cant even do that ๐
Might as well just wait for like 15 hours.
atleast this is helping me save money lol
^^ agreed LOL
amazon ui needs more hamsters
ever look at them and get a sudden urge to play whack-a-hamster?
that how i feel when i go to dunkin donuts in the morning and i'm greeted with stupidity
Damn, the Amcrest bullet POE cam is 40% off! Urgh, how much money do I want to spend today? https://amzn.to/2NX1ER9
well if they can t ship ariel to a german adress then i dunno they don t sell that shit anywhere else
Im tempted to setup a dashboard tablet, anyone know of a cheap tablet, possibly using a mediatek chipset
haven't looked at tablets for a few years now but be aware that the cheapest tablets might still have TN displays. I'd steer clear of those and go for any IPS panel cheapo
Looking for automations ideas for my VR room.
automatically call an ambulance when you trip on the cables
not sure what automations you need in VR though as that's a closed environment. Just set a button to shut everything else down to minimize any outside interference
I can trigger stuff when VR software is launched - dim lights or whatever
wonder if there is some sort of notification for steamVR - in case the wife needs me while I'm "plugged in"
you can probably get the info of VR software being run from Steam and use it. Not sure if you can interface with the UI though
You will know that she needs you when she hit you in the head with a pan ๐
she normally stays out while I'm playing ... because of the incidient.
audio trigger should be fairly easy though?
yeah audio should be easy
oh there's actually steam integration for hass, hmm
lol @light trout
let me look at what the api the steam component uses offers
it seems to report the status but not sure if there's the info if a certain game is on or not
I run EventGhost on the same PC
so I can set a boolean for when I'm in game with HASS
I just saw there is a PushBullet addon for SteamVR
which is useful
yeah, that could be a way
I use eventghost to check if a program is on or not as well and it works well
and i think steam lauches a background app for vr anyway
used mqtt switch for it myself. There's probably a better way though
@oblique nymph the vive can be paired with a phone to show notifycations https://www.vive.com/uk/support/vive/category_howto/pairing-your-phone-with-vive.html
Pair your phone with the VIVE system to start receiving notifications while you're on VR.
yeah and its horrible
it rarely ever works if you're lucky enough to get it paired
or you could try and see if this works and setup something in homeassistant for it https://github.com/ThomasGaubert/zephyr using the api, it also has an android app
Disclaimer: i dont have vr things, to expensive for me at the moment, and my house is too small
the pro is out, but its like โฌ1000+
but for me to get VR it would cost me a bit to get a new nvidia card and then the vive is a simular price
the gfx prices have been retarded lately. Still would pay the same for my GTX 1060 that I did 1ยฝ years ago...
well over clockers uk has a 1070 for less than ยฃ500
sorry, got the price wrong
Crypto bubble weak, idoits buying the wrong cards for it are making a GPU bubble
there we go, got the ssl labs rating from a B to an A for the reverse proxy managing homeassisant
Anyone here using HADashboard with a Fire Tablet 7? Don't know if that's tooooo small.
I messed around with a 7" Fire for dashboards, it's a little small
I much prefer the 8"
I have a 7 for my desk - just for random controls and I'm close to it
8 or 10 is better for walls and such if you're far away
gottcha, thanks for the insight.
are you able to keep the dashboard panel up and active with the "special offers" versions?
mostly
yeah of course
I use Fully Kiosk Browser on mine and have it set to go to "Screensaver" which is set to a black screen at 1% brightness instead of turning the screen off
no way to bypass the lock screen if the screen gets turned off though, and Fully will occasionally crash or the tablet will restart to install an update and it will end up at the lock screen again
This video wil show you how to remove the ads on the 7th generation Amazon Fire tablets. Current version is 5.4.4. Like what I do? Help support me on Patreon...
awesome! Prime day is making me push this smart home project forward so i may pick up a 7" to mess with for testing and an 8" or 10" based on the success of that on black friday ๐ค
its amazon crimeday
10" kindle fire is rootable, 8" isn't (yet atleast)
they day a exploit is discovered that enables rooting the 8" will be great
yeah not a huge fan of "prime" day
lol
welcome to artificially inflated prices to make higher prices look like a good deal
the only thing prime day is really good for is buying amazon hardware at a discount
what they doing is criminal
the TP-Link smart switches are at least on sale too lol
i was hoping for some discounts on UPSes but haven't seen any. i want to pick up a new one for my BlueIris system
shows 35$ here
that's normal price - then under it says prme day deal, price at checkout is $25.49
yeah just saw it on checkout
i like my tp-link plugin modules
you can see em at lowes or home depot every once in a while for like 20$
i really like the look of the wemo dimmers too
the tp-link ones are kinda ugly... :x
link? I see them for $65
no link saw it while beeing in the store with a yellow tag
ohhh gottcha. they're $65 on the site now - amazon has refurbed ones for $50 though too
these actually seem interesting - they're the same price as buying the non-energry monitoring ones in a 2 pack (e.g. $20 each)
i'm assuming HASS doesn't show or do anything with the energy monitoring does it?
plugs are very stable
is there a writeup on how to set that up? I'd like to set that up for a number of things probably -- i may buy 4 or 5 of those plugs now that i know it works that well lol
@dry cairn that'd be great - would save me the time in figuring it out haha

@dry cairn you got the hs110 for dryer too or just washing machine? dryer requires 220v isn't it?
yeah dryer is 220v
I don't think hs110 supports 220v
People are saying the HS110 works w/ 220v
single phase
if you put 220v 2 phase to it at 30 amps you gonna have a lightshow
Open-source hardware tools for energy monitoring and visualisation
this could be something interesting
i'm trying to think of what i would use those for
I'm trying to figure out how many HS110's I need... one for washer, one for 3D printer for sure.
the hs110's that is
I could put one on my fridge but I'm not sure how much I'd really need that.
I'd never turn it on/off anyhow lol
i have a whole home energy meter, so the 110's would only really need to be on things that i wanted to do automations based on
which meter you got and does it work with ha
@amber bramble you can use those hs110s if you want to control and monitor individual appliances or devices. otherwise there is no need if you already have whole house energy meter
@dry cairn aeotec zwave meter
ah that thing
@dry cairn I got a Aeoteck zwave meter with two prongs as well... never had the chance to hook it up
i got one here
@dry cairn do you automate anything on the fridge, or just use it to monitor energy usage? What do you do with the actual usage reports?
@last plaza yeah, i'm trying to think of if i have any appliances i would want to do any kind of automation or monitoring on
you can turn off the fridge - although I would recommend against it
off is eco mode ๐
one day ima hook that zwave one up
i think it needs programming though
@amber bramble I have my TV hooked to a one of the zwave outlets, where I get energy usage. I can tell how much I am spending on my TV per month. I will have to move that to a different location to see usage by room
i think i remember reading the chinese manual and then say oh crap fuckit
yeah it took me a lot of screwing around to get the aeotec one to report the way i wanted it to
it is just awareness, if you mnonitor all the outlets, rest is just light bulbs and fans
now i know who to bother when i hook it up eventually
not me ๐ I hate zwave. It is the @clever mortar you want to bug
Tinkerer is away for 17h 21m 17s with a message :point_right: Visiting other planets. Turns out the moon wasn't made of cheese after all...
no @amber bramble
heh, i moved my Pi to mess around with a zigbee switch and now my energy meter hasn't been reporting back. must be too far away now
i havent had anything to verify it against, but it seems fairly accurate
though its only set to report once every 5 minutes or so
@dry cairn - that Google TTS - that comes out of your google home devices right?
or if there's a greater than 50W change
@feral fractal yes
I have z-wave repeaters - they work very well
simple ....if watt usage drops below 10w then google tts say : washing machine finished
also, anything that is not operated on batteries is a repeater - so I have a bunch of sirens I use as repeaters
sirens?
yes, I have z-wave sirens... let me show you what I got... they are crappy I wouldn't recommend buying it. I got a complimentary devices from aeotek
what you need sirens for
they are not loud sirens... they are more like alarms
ahahaha mini siren
I got version 5, not that modern looking ones...
ah
I saw @cloud cradle a few weeks back... he definitely seem to be in good spirits and enjoying the automation world
ah cool
he was working on some way to hash log files, so that he can detect if they are modified outside HA
like someone tinkering with it
maybe he wants to find out if his henchmen are messing with him
maybe ๐
๐
@last plaza You rang M'lud?
there he is
BOOM!

Not entirely sure there is a way to make a grand entrance to a chat server?
Does it help anybody to know that I'm wearing 6 inch platforms and a cape?
Does that improve the entrance experience somewhat?
didn t see you for month thought someone tied your chopper to a room heater
definitely! ๐
@dry cairn Just been doing stupid medical stuff and trying to work out how to secure log files
@dry cairn not too bad, you?
Hello everyone!
same ol same ol
and just trying to work out how to combine the file notification component with a shell command
Is anyone avaiable for helping me setting up HACP ? Im pretty new in this world
apparently you can only have one file where you can write the output of notifications too, which is five but it's then trying to write the hash of the file using a shell command
I think I'm almost there
@cloud cradle posted a message that is more than 15 lines. It is now available at: https://hastebin.com/iquzexokib
I did, I've got about 600 m around the house
nice
that's a neat trick, automatically creating a link if someone sends a wall of text to the server
yeah skalavala did that lol
oi
so it should just be a case of adding a service to the bottom of the automation above that does: sha256sum all_notifications_file.txt > all_notifications_file.txt
but it keeps failing some reason
gotta be root?
no, not as far as I'm aware
uh my prusa printer is taking the seenit route its been in germany today now its in madrid
nice, it will be worth it when it arrives.
brb
@oblique nymph did you see the notifycation app suggestion, the open source one
@pure vine Im on iOS
ahh
@oblique nymph it still has a http api that you could probably use the command line or rest notify components for
I'll take a look. Thanks @pure vine
hello, can anyone help me install HACP ? I follow the steps on community and it cant find server.. thanks!
hello, can anyone help me install HACP ? I follow the steps on community and it cant find server.. thanks!
sry bad channel
Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh
lol - that's what I got when googled
bad channel... naughty channel
It looks like the notifycation is just sending something in the body of the request
unless im reading it wrong https://github.com/ThomasGaubert/zephyr/blob/a980f0c025d8350b9046d0d1b474f2f0f9bcec69/desktop/app/main.js#L220-L224
ahh, you send the json from here to the api https://github.com/ThomasGaubert/zephyr/wiki/Payloads#notifications
although it looks like you will need to use the command line notify compontent
that limits you to messages only
@last plaza Home Assistant Control Panel
@junior forge yes, I found that ๐
anyone have tips to create a yaml structure from scratch? can't wrap my head around what the base type is.
@south dawn Define base type
@south dawn you might want to look at yamllint.com for creating yaml - it gives you instant feedback from syntax perspective
this is what i have at the moment: https://gist.github.com/twosky2000/d8a2bec7eccef03e64ba82733da8b97f
@junior forge the object you add all the values and keys to. I can't use dict because i need to define values with no singular key
@south dawn List?
@potent crown I guess he was away for a long time... missed all the changes and needs to re-learn it all? ๐
Don't suppose anyone has 5 mins to help with an openvpn issue
That just looks amazing @drowsy finch
thats aaaaalot of $
trade war going strong
@junior forge thank you!
I dislike 1st tab icon. All else looking pretty
@orchid rose this google stuff was going on before the tradewar
how do we check
check what ?
if your infected ? well if you got an older router with an really old firmware begin with flashing a new firmware to it if its available : )
thats always a start
if its an isp router then call your isp and check if your router is running the latest firmware
always a start ๐
awwn what a cute little boat ๐ are you gonna play with it ? ๐
its a benchy to test the printer
"bench" "test"
yep its a torture test for printers
if the benchy comes out like crap you did it wrong
that was the first ever print right after turning it on
get your own ๐
but now i know why the prusa ppl charge 200$ to assemble the damn thing
https://www.creality3d.cn/creality-3d-ender-3-p00244p1.html is what my next one will be
with some upgrades
man you should go for the prusa mk3
i got 9 other printers from various manufacturers and this one is just the best one so far
I have a Tiertime Up! Plus
no endstops trinamic drivers
Which one?
prusa mk3
Yeah well, its way out of my price range
vs $300 for the Ender 3 and the paid upgrades I'll do to it
And its prints will rival a mk3
I'll have to pay more if I want to print stuff like TPU, but for now ABS (to use up what I have) and PLA are fine
i was sceptical about the mk3 too but i finally bit the bullet
I know someone with one, he loves it
i got some nice printing printers but shit this one takes the cake
I mean know in person, not internet know
that print looks great
the loudest part of it is the psu lol
can barely hear the steppers
It is, just more than I want to pay
someone is working on a multi-filament addon for the ender3
prolly a prusa clone ๐
nope, 3 filament
ima print the display case to add a rpi with a octoprint display later on
@rancid lance ahh, im probably not affected, that reminds me that i need to update my router back to openwrt now they merged
@pure vine what merged?
openwrt and LEDE
ahh, i run enterprise grade now ๐
@rancid lance This is hot.
haha
43c
shit
i would be dead
is it dry or is it humid ?
cause that makes all the differance when its hot
Very humid.
Actually, today it is only 24% humidity outside! Iโm surprised, very surprised. I think normal is 45%+ around here.
When I go to Las Vegas, I drink even more water than I normally do (probably 5-7L on a normal day), and I still get extremely dehydrated. Las Vegas is a very dry heat.
so, taking the plunge... HomeAssistant, Hass.io, HassOS, Hassbian.... too many alternatives for my Pi ๐ any help what to choose?
or where showld I ask?
W00t, my cryptocurrency is gaining value
and I live in Minnesota, land of the humid heat in the summer and the very very dry cold in the winter
@golden schooner I'm all for HassOS on the Raspberry Pi. ๐
Looks like it would be an easy addon, just a java server, with minimal config and there is already a docker option
interesting... Blynk server in hassio as addon
should be doable
because is a bitch to make it manualy ๐
Yes, should be very easy to do! https://github.com/blynkkk/blynk-server#quick-docker-container-setup
Wow, HassOS 1.7 took less than a minute to flash to a SanDisk Extreme PLUS 32GB microSD ๐ฎ
Now I need to find a darn USB drive, lol.
๐ฎ Starting up with HA again? ๐
Mayyyyyybe ๐
Lol, what do you mean eco mode?
@eager trench I fixed the hang when using -p without a password.
sweet...
do you know anything about the new auth? i locked myself out... posted in beta. not sure how to get back in
No, I haven't played with it yet.
a restart seems to have fixed it
Oh haha. Thatโs just an indicator to let me know Iโm under 2200rpm. ๐
@peak cloud admit it you drive on eco mode like a grandpa
i can already see you driving down the highway in the left lane with the right blinker on doing 55
at the time of taking the picture he is driving at 60 mph ๐
55
When I thought to take the picture I was doing 70mph in the right lane (2 lane highway at the current time). I just wanted to get to a safer place where I felt more comfortable taking it ๐
hello
got everything today for setting up a friends house with HA... missed buying a SD-Card for the rpi ๐ ๐
use USB then ๐
can i use it as a boot volume? ๐ฎ
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bootmodes/msd.md
It need a SD to configure it to be able to do that, but yes
cool. didnt know that. as you gave it a try, did it increase/decrease performance somehow? luckly prime will get me an SD by tomorrow
I have not tried it, I have more SD cards than I can ever use :P
But I doubt you will see a drop in preformance, possibly you will increase stability
That's to big ๐
works better then sd
has better read write speeds
got it on my mediacenter running on pidrive
$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda1
/dev/sda1:
Timing cached reads: 862 MB in 2.00 seconds = 430.72 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 96 MB in 3.02 seconds = 31.78 MB/sec
`
$ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/mmcblk0p2
/dev/mmcblk0p2:
Timing cached reads: 538 MB in 2.00 seconds = 268.45 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 62 MB in 3.10 seconds = 20.02 MB/sec
there is quite a nice performance boost of running it on usb
