lol
woah all the channels are differnt now
oh im like an hour late to that party
carry on
The grand shuffle is mostly over I think
LOL
Until the next one
ahh so this is my new hangout channel ๐
less disruptive then being all in one channel like before
Euhm @rancid lance This channel was originally named # random
๐
We discussed it all extensively and renamed some stuff
and re-located things
to be clear on the subjects
apparently (based on your reaction) it works ๐
wow ๐
It did feel a bit like it
Two folks new to Discord who somehow end up there
๐คท
@clever mortar whats the #Default channel when someone joins?
Tinkerer is away for 23s with a message :point_right: Attempting to substitute my own reality and rejecting this one. I may need a bigger hammer...
I think the plan is to make it this one
How programable is discord?
When setting up the rooms and stuff I meant, I see a lot of people ask questions in the developers rooms.
Can you add conditions before letting people post on those rooms?
that trump hotels looks like a nice vacation
should i get the tinkerboard
@pliant forge You can limit access - there were discussions about limiting access to the developer channels until people ticked an I'm a developer box
morning @clever mortar
๐
been tracking this discussion on the forum
Today, I tried to turn light of Gateway Xiaomi on by HA, but it didnโt work. When I opened Mihome app to try to turn on the light, It can turn on and HA also got the status of Gateway light was on, but HA cannot controlled it. I tried to play around to understand why HA ca...
kinda interesting
Another thread on security...
Anyone else at Hashidays?
hehe yes
One day somebody will RTFM
lol
think that guy failed with trusted networks
since he didnt use samba
but i got something nice outta the thread
didnt know about this
seems like an interesting piece of software
Cool
@clever mortar might be an idea so setup a page dedicated to just common sense stuff for hass
since so many fail at the basics
just an idea ๐คท
There already is one (https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/configuration/securing/), and there's an update in about it (must go see what happened to that one)
Sadly unless security if forced upon people, they'll not use it
yeah true
One of the threads before this was started by somebody who forwarded ports to their HA setup, and didn't do anything to secure it at all
After that a bunch more Remember to secure your install notes were added to various doc pages
Looks like we need more though ๐ฆ
although services like shodan and eyezoom are horrible their still valuable
People get all worked up over it every time I suggest it, but using a high random port does wonders
just dont like my systems getting scanned
I've been running on a port above 30K since the beginning, and get no probes at all
yeah thats is one way to go about it
Yes, I've got all the real security things going on too, but a little obscurity massively reduces the noise
the one thing i miss about not using a wrt platform for router anymore is the ability to script for the router
have basic ipfilters set in place to automatically block scanners etc
something i guess amplify wont open up for
Or, run a reverse proxy and do that there instead?
although i could shift to the edge-x router instead
well if i needs ports open i can just do it from the app ๐
so i dont need to have hass forwarded
Interesting thread you posted @rancid lance I have someone attempting to get access to my instance as I keep getting the persistent notification about a bad login attempt. Some of their IPs are banned but it seems itโs a range operating out of California. The IPs have been reported on whatsmyip and other sites.
They have stopped for now. Weird thing is I changed my duckdns domain and used a high port as suggested by @clever mortar but they found it again very soon after
thinking of doing some sort of automation to ipset for that stuff
ban em with iptables
if i have the need to portforward
I canโt seem to find a way to manually ban IPs. Is this correct?
I added that, and got it working but there havenโt been any other attempts so far. It was really intense for like a week!!
That's another reason not to use 80, 443, or 8123
Moves you away from the sight of the skiddies
I suspect though you could manually add IPs to the ban list, not sure if it's read back in other than on restart though
lounge is the new random?
Yup
uuh feeling loungy
any open source, locally hostable, image processing projects anyone knows of?
What kind of image processing?
face recognition is my immediate thoughts.. following on from our discussion yesterday about person tracking
Obviously facebox and dlib
facebox is pay to use after 10 faces, will have a look into dlib then.. you every played with it ?
I've not, until very recently I'd no cameras at home at all
There's a whole one now, but it's not located in a place that makes it useful for person detection
i think the one on the front door to tell me if it's the postman, my mate etc would be a very interesting addition
Yeah, I'm tempted by the Nest Hello for that, because I'm lazy
https://machinebox.io/#pricing though says 20 faces
my mistake! 20 it is.. that might be enough but I think I'd want to train more people than that.. by the time i teach it my family and friends, my wives, regular visitors i.e. postmen etc
Yeah, even with just the kids friends, 20 can vanish quickly
That's primarily why the Nest Hello interests me, so the right person can go answer the door, rather than acting as a relay service ๐
haven't really looked into that yet.. I just don't like the monthly subscriptions
For me it's a trade off between my effort and costs vs convenience - where the sub is sensibly priced
ยฃ40/year for (one camera) Nest Aware is ok
The upload requirements though are a problem for multiple cameras
more reasonable that there other subscriptions
Yeah
I cancelled my subscription for my nest outdoor camera because of the cost, and now I can get it in Blue Iris I see no reason to consider going back
Where the functionality is sufficient, local wins all the time
my thoughts exactly
opencv, openface and all the other interesting looking products look like they haven't had any development for a while
The curse of open source
indeed, the momentum and enthusiasm needs to be kept high or great projects can die... thankfully there's enough of both in Home Assistant ๐
@clever mortar perfect, just what in mind. Thanks for the reply.
anyone else's google home take a dump this morning?
1/2 of mine "the google home you are trying to use is not setup yet" go in teh app and it is....hop on reddit huge amount of threads same issue
yea those morons.....if you go on reddit you can see it seems to be teh exact same firmware for over 10 hours
this is why you need to plan a roll back so you can execute it properly
in fact the google homes impacted by that issue cannot be controlled from HA eitehr if you noticed
cant turn on or send TTS
hehe dont use google home ๐
you expect me to use alexa?!
haha
aint that the truth
its bad enough with smartphones
they dont listen to our conversations at all
wife: "hey, lets talk about X"
phone 20 minutes later: "check out these ads about X!"
^^
@shy comet yep. didn't realize it until I read here but no notifications working from the GH
Nice computer to run HA. If I had the money I'd buy one right now. https://www.pcliquidations.com/p74590-dell-optiplex-790-usff?utm_campaign=Weekly+6-27+Scratch+and+Dent+(Qj7Spn)&utm_medium=email&_ke=eyJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJzbWNjbG91ZEB1bmltYXguY29tIiwgImtsX2NvbXBhbnlfaWQiOiAiSkpZcVdLIn0%3D&utm_source=Active+in+Last+12+Months+(%2B+Signups)
Any advantages to setting up a wiki on your github instead of a readme ?
More pages?
- you don't have to push changes
- easy navigation
need to give my readme's an overhaul, and if I'm doing it and going to change I might as well do it all now ๐
having said that, not sure if it's actually of any use to anyone...
It's always useful to understand why people have done what they've done
assuming people are looking at it that is..
@maiden estuary Make a script that scans your config, and creates a good README for it, after that you can share that script with us ๐
@bitter gazelle Infosec tends to pay more, but it also risks consuming your life if you get into the response side in a consultancy or dedicated infosec firm
On the other hand, if you're starting to find "mere" system admin limiting or frustrating there's sooo much more scope in the right role
the big infosec company in my area wants a silly degree for everything
They're being lead by idiots clearly
I know some very good infosec folks who've no degrees
@clever mortar it's also hard to make a pivot like that at 49
Harder, yes, but not impossible
not impossible
I've a friend who's the far side of 50 who's about to make that pivot (into the architecture side)
I know a bunch of folks who made the change post 40
about a year I ago I started following a bunch of twitter infosec folks
they are very big so they get to be very selective
had a brief twitter conversation with @Hacks4Pancakes
There's also a lot of good blogs out there
And obviously the usual run of conferences from good, through not so good
I also have a decent front row seat, my former boss is still a friend, so I get a good look into his job
honestly my biggest weakness here is that I'm a linux admin, and by that I mean I've been a linux/unix admin since... 1992?
slackware days!
so I have extremely poor windows skills
Windows isn't that hard to get into, though it's more complicated now than it was when I picked it up
Under the hood, the fundamentals are very similar
@stiff moth my personal linux use goes back to Hj Lu's Boot/Root and MCC+, where you could install linux from a stack of floppies
(but then I said that when I started learning database admin stuff, that under the hood a database is not unlike an OS)
Yup, I've install many a linux distro from floppy. Heck, I used to love gentoo back in it's early days but figured it was more trouble than it was worth.
been there, done that, got the t-shirt
"WHY THE HELL DO I NEED TO COMPILE GLIBC FROM SCRATCH?!?!"
But I'm mostly a network guy now that just happens to be very comfortable on unix with some scripting skills.
Windows has also been adding a lot more to CLI and powershell
Powershell is actually really good
Modern Linux is becoming a real shitshow
I just need to learn it ๐คท
because of Lennart Poettering and Systemd
FreeBSD!
I installed ubuntu 18.04 at home
you can no longer edit network configs directly, you have to edit a plan in /etc/netplan, then run netplan deploy
because the thing my static interface linux server needs is more god damned YAML
I've tried FreeBSD twice and OpenBSD once
Yeah, I'm not impressed by Ubuntu these days, but I've a bunch of boxes on 16.04 LTS that are going to need an upgrade in the future
FreeBSD isn't bad these days, if your last experience was the 3.x days
i've gotten used to systemd
16.04 has old Python
so if you want to keep running hass, you have to hack in self compiled python
I did that on my Pi
some ppa have it as well
I'm now running 3.6.3 on Raspbian Jessie
I just installed 18.04
"you can no longer edit network configs directly, you have to edit a plan in /etc/netplan, then run netplan deploy"
ugh why
i hate how much simple stuff is moving from being an easy to edit text file to more complicated junk
see also: trying to pull Favorites from Microsoft Edge vs IE or literally any other web browser
because at the end of the day, Lennart Poettering convinced redhat that making a giant monolithic system in systemd that slurped up every core service was the way
and Shuttlesworth went "YEAH!"
Poettering's rationale for systemd is that it's better for his laptop
windows 10 is an absolute dumpster fire from a sysadmin side. seems like linux has been going that way too
I actually sat in a room in 2015 and listened to him give a talk about systemd. If I'd known then what I know now I'd have beaten him with a chair
there's a reason systemd is referred to as "The windowsification of linux"
should have, then we may still have upstart
I was fine with upstart because /etc/init.d still worked
and it didn't keep trying to do things like "We really need network interfaces set by a daemon"
systemd โค
twitches
haha
#triggered
i warmed up to it
at first i hated it
but it gotten around to being useful
not a big deal these days
I've learned the rough edges
I can move around in it
though it makes managing my RHEL6 boxes harder when I reflexively type systemctl
i ditched tradition init and dedicated myself to systemd
so i wouldnt have to move around it
you can't systemd a rhel6 box
and we have a ton still laying around
hell, there's four boxes here that have to be kept spinning for legacy reasons that's RHEL4
mainly using arch or debian
*initial state
does anyone have any good curtains/blinds/drapes (you name it) to suggest? I had my eye on that implementation by aqara (xiaomi's partner on smart stuff). The motor only costs about 90$ a piece (and maybe more if you go with the wifi version instead of the zigbee that relies on the gateway to function) but that's not the saltiest part.
Worse is the rails ... to get rails compatible with this specific motor you may need as much as 100$ per piece
now that's a lotta doubloons
@normal ferry regular horzontial blinds are easy .... servo, esp8266 and psu.... to tilit open and close https://github.com/Vasiley/Home-Assistant-Main/wiki/DIY-Blinds
@normal ferry I have some BEME eRods that are IR based controlled from my harmony hub....you can find them on amazon for around $100-$150 USD....may get lucky on ebay for lower prices too
thank you guys - I'll look at both
fyi @dull chasm I was just looking at your homeassistant-config github
why did I have to do that to myself at 4:18 am ?
so many stuff I want to do now
brain overflowing
i only got a couple lights and such ๐
yes but you have platforms that I never knew possible (such as this haskaa thing I saw a few days back from your repository again and opened up new world for me)
plus I made sense of packages from your config
cause the documentation doesn't live up to the legend a lot when it comes to packages
well thanks.... i really need to get on the wiki more.... but i suck at doc writing ... but glad it helped
morning

anyone know where i can get some paid help for nginx?
Woei! Octobox is empty! Time for bed ๐
@sacred hornet What exactly do you need help with?
@peak cloud put on your glases he/she clearly wanted help with nginx๐
@light trout ummmmmmmmm, nginx is A LOT of things. ๐๐
๐ ๐
My nginx config is so complicated, and I really donโt think I would ever be able to reproduce it.
Same here, so I put it all on gitlab ๐
I use oauth2 proxy with openresty (an nginx build that allows Lua) to auth all of my subdomains
mine is not that complicated after all. ๐
...exactly.
Want me to share mine with you? Iโd be more than happy to! Well, except for the JWT secrets, you ainโt gettinโ those ๐
Please do, always up for learning to do stuff better ๐
Good morning ๐

@pale summit Sounds like you definitely need to go shopping! ๐
If I'm ever overseas and in the area, may I try my RFID chip implant on your install? ๐
If your travel agent sends you to France... Get a new travel agent ๐ฒ
Why so?
Haha.. I'm only winding up @pale summit
Also definitely more shopping required @pale summit
Apparently I'm about to wind down. ๐ฆ
There's no more help for me to give this evening, so I guess I'll call it a night. G'night fellas!

Good night ๐
Guess my shopping list will never end @maiden estuary ๐
Well mine has no sign of ending that's for sure

@peak cloud hey mate
i need help with an ssl redirect in nginx and also having issues with my bad bots configuration
I just setup badbots for fail2ban. I improved it a bit.
got this little script running to block those pesky shodan scanners
set that on a daily cronjob and pings from shodan.io goes down quite a bit
Nice!
Here's the badbots filter and jail conf: https://gist.github.com/dale3h/660fe549df8232d1902f338e6d3b39ed
tnx
๐
if your using ipv6 i could make it work for that too
removed most of the ipv6 stuff since my current provider isnt using it
originally for this project that i made
This script blocks Telemetry, Shodan.io crawlers and an Android Rootkit, it supports both ipv4 and ipv6 out of the box however ipv6 blocking will only work on routers with ipset...
for asuswrt
My provider is not IPv6 yet.
also made this
thats the one thing i miss about not having a asus router
@peak cloud mentioning badbots reminded me that battlebots is on tonight!
Hahaha, nice.
if you havent seen that show lately, they really stepped stuff up its more awesome than i remember
asuswrt is a fun platform with entware installed
did u ever install entware on your asus router @peak cloud ?
No sir, I did not.
Wow, my girlfriend is insanely amazing.
are those bacon flowers?!
Those are indeed bacon flowers. ๐
my god thats flowers that are useful ๐
omg @peak cloud .. first flowers i've seen that i actually want ๐

At the same time they also just confirm all thoughts one has about the US

my wife too
maybe something is up

@last plaza Morton salt (course salt for the neck of the beer), some sweetened lime juice (to put on the neck of the bottle to get the salt to stick to it), a "Beer Dresser" (tool to salt the neck), 6pk Corona Extra, 12pk Miller Lite, a card and bacon roses. ๐
the attacker depends on specialized hardware (so called software-defined radios)
heh
Specialised? Right
^^
in regards to that LTE hack... it needs a little more than an RTL-SDR
here's the actual write-up: https://alter-attack.net/
runs on top of srsLTE: https://github.com/srsLTE/srsLTE
i have a limeSDR but apparently it won't support for the full stack yet. there's been work on a USRP driver layer to make it compatible, wonder if recent versions have been tested...
grabs 2 cups and a string for communication needs
@clever mortar the stuff is probably expensive though
Maybe, but even if it's expensive today, give it a few years.
I wonder too if http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=35&Level=4&Conn=3&ProdID=257 is capable of the right frequencies
one of the attacks is a side affect of radio, not realy a vun, the others sound bad
Because they're cheap
To be fair, pretty much all comms protocols are a compromise
sounds like some of them need RX&TX
eyyy, XFCE

Cool. It's very much not my style of music, but I know folks who're into it
Being brought up on classical and 60s music probably has a lot to do with my current tastes
Which admittedly spans from classical, through rock, to pop, by way of a few other diversions
lately i been listening to Dance Gavin Dance

@clever mortar your taste sounds like mine, spans from classical(Especially soundtracks) to rock music(Random Brit rock, late 80's to early 2000's and Public service broadcasting), rock due to my parents and classical due to my grandparents and using BBC radio 3 to sleep when younger

dunno if there are many trance / house addicts in here
it's not 1999 any more
testing the changes im making to the openskys component is annoying, i feel like im at the airport, im having to wait for planes
was a joke, I still listen to trance sometimes ๐
hey all fun and games but when random people say its shit its kinda not like we are m8s

Im planning to do a proper setup that also feeds the data to multiple services
still coudnt decide if i should zwave or sonoffy my switches/light controls in my house. currently opting in for those fibaro zwave switches, they seem decent.
anyone want to try a new sensor? :)
It should now work on most installs :D
https://gitlab.com/custom_components/versions
it fetches from pypi if venv/hassbian, from dockerhub if docker and from the aws hosted version file if hassio.
Will you turn it into a real component afterwards then? ๐
possibly
Why are people missunderstanding how eddystone and BLE beacons work, it's frustrating watching these videos spreading fud
how are they messing it up?

I wish something like Dakboard existed that could be locally hosted. I want to use it as a screensaver on my wall mounted tablets.
Is there another solution to what this solves? https://github.com/adgelbfish/jinja2hass
basically, I have a bunch of devices and I want to turn them on and off at different times on a per device basis. Currently, I'm using that and a csv of devices and times to generate the config for home assistant.
I want to know a) if there is another solution and b) if people have any suggestions for what would be a better solution (that I could develop).
I'm wondering if you could do something interesting with Google calendar to trigger automations....

pwew, good to know. why do politicians (or lets better call them decicisonmakers) never have any expertiece in the field where they decide things? ๐ especially comes to my mind when i look at my country (GER) and its "digital transformation" that is none ๐
@wintry osprey @maiden estuary I like the Idea of having a single place to browse for new cards, a hassio addon is probably not the best place, but a org "shared space" on github may be :)
somwhere along https://github.com/custom-cards/๏ฟฝRD% where the person developing that card has access under his/her card.
could have the same for custom_components https://github.com/custom-components/%component%.%platform%
Will make it a lot easier to find new cool stuff to add :D
side bonus, this way multiple people does not have to rewrite because they didn't find that someone already had done it among milions of published repos ๐
was somewhat offtopic for #frontend-archived ๐
An org would work. Would give people some trust if handled correctly
I think you should always to try open a PR @ the Home Assistant repos first
see if it can be added to the core
Releasing custom stuff as custom before introducing it to the core will help get out some bugs ๐
my card for example (monster-card) was born only because it was not accepted in core
that's the other reason, but needing to browse though so may repos in hope that you may find something ๐คท seems unnecessary ๐
Great idea's that seems like a really good way of doing it... Plus I want to play with all @wintry osprey cool stuff
If it ends up being appropriate it can always be pulled into the main repo
Can almost be the same as Lego Ideas ๐
precisely, and at that point the person that are developing that card/component can archive that repo, and add a note on where to find updated docs ๐
And today a plan was born! ๐คค
Someone hold my ๐บ ! Lol
Just like that!
dang the xiaomi aqara temp/humidity sensors are $15 now on gearbest
weren't they $10 before?
is there some kind of bounty program for bugs where I could offer money to get a feature done?
@slow yew No official one, just a feature request section of the forum
so I'd be allowed to post a feature request there and offer money to whoever implements it and submits it to homeassistant's repo?
I've seen no official line on offering money for features
As long as you're aware of the risks
I'd really like to have a default value for lights when turned on. I actually implemented it myself but for certain reasons it would be easier for me to get someone familiar with homeassistant to do it properly. I think I'll try the forum
is this discord american or why is there no channel where I can talk about football?
looks at channel topic
looks around
clearly deserves it's own channel though โฝ โฝ โฝ
In the nicest possible way - heck no ๐
Also, who cares - there's only two teams that count
I'm getting triggered here!
England, and everybody else
I'm championing anybody who's playing against England ๐
They're everybody else aren't they ๐
my fellow Finn so wrong on this
(I'll admit now, I'm not following the football at all)
orly ๐ Been an interesting tournament so far and that Brazil-Belgium game really pushed it now. What a game!
me neither, just recalling this quote: "Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win."
Soccer is a gentleman's game played by hooligans. On the other hand, rugby is a hooligans game played by gentlemen.
oh no, he might be british
Close enough
I thought hunting the game is the gentleman's sport. foxes and stuff
Depends on the definition of sport. IMO that's only sport if the foxes get shotguns ๐
somehow I don't think that would help much ๐
So, we just need to cyborg them up ๐คท
I mean, foxes with lasers will be more effective than sharks with lasers ๐
how did we get from the beautiful game to fox hunting... smh
Because hooligans
it wasn't my intention to ruin the conversation with unrelated remarks, apologies ๐
Anyway Brazils out so ๐
it's coming home? ๐
We're talking football. How can you ruin that ๐
wow wow easy
I have nothing against football - just the fans that drag it down
where u from btw?
UK, Scotland in particular
Interesting, haven't met that many scots on the interwebs for some reason
probably too busy brawling outside or something
Or brawling inside, or just getting drunk ๐
plenty of finns online so getting drunk is hardly the issue. Maybe just handling the booze? ๐
Ah, now you're confusing us with the English, or possibly the Americans
I do remember a time drinking with some Americans where they discovered that European beer was a lot stronger than what they were used to
They didn't surface until the following afternoon, and were still suffering then
haha, yeah the european stuff is slightly different from what we'd drink up here as well. Then again there's Vodka to keep us warm
We use Scotch for that
though I have to say I'm very partial towards scotch myself... Can't beat the islay stuff
If you like it, do try the Japanese whisky
While I should support the traditional stuff, they do some really good whisky
might have to try at some point. Just seems pretty expensive in comparison to some scottish stuff
Here it's similar in cost to a good bottle of single malt - โฌ30 and up
Not cheap, and not for the daily drinking to be sure
don't get me started on the finnish and gorvenment ran monopoly of alcohol
for 30โฌ you get like a bottle of the cheapest blend - if you're lucky
Same in Norway ๐ฆ
They've upped the cost of drinks here, but we're not in that situation thankfully
A bottle of "cheap" Japanese single malt goes for around 60โฌ here...
iirc the english have pretty high tax for alcohol. Is it the same for scots?
By and large it's the same here
yeah it's no exactly cheap there then either compared to germany or something for example
And there's now a fixed minimum price per unit of alcohol too
ridiculous if you ask me
50p (roughly โฌ0.5) per unit
Well, binge drinking is a problem
And education doesn't seem to work
Makes the stupidly cheap "beer" slightly more expensive, so making it more expensive to get completely bottled drunk
high prices won't exactly fix the issue though. Here because of the high prices the way to go out is to get drunk at home and then go out... Clearly fixes the issue ๐ค
50p
True, but the government has to be seen to be trying something
Yeah, cheap beer is cheap
Mind you, it's been a few decades since I last had a pint of decent beer at under ยฃ1
cheapest bottle of japanese whisky here would be about 60โฌ for half a liter...
@orchid rose we need to move ๐
ikr
We're about ยฃ30 for a 70cl bottle of cheap Japanese whisky
some finns I've seen can do binge drinking, but I think some UK people love it even more
ยฃ60 would get a rather nice bottle
getting hammered in the afternoon as the pubs close too soon
@clever mortar Hard to imigrate there? ๐
in finland it's drinking at a home party till 11-12 o'clock and then having a beer or two somewhere
Not very, as long as you can fake speaking English
Given most of our local dialects, speaking English can appear optional in Scotland ๐
Speak no, fake beeing mute, sure ๐
well at least the weather is nice in scotland... ๐
whereabouts in scotland are you located, if I may ask?
aah, my less favorite place from a trip some years ago ๐
And hey, at least we normally get the pleasure of knowing it's going to rain later today ๐
Glasgow is "interesting"
Some parts are really nice, and others will have you leaving body parts behind
Sometimes you only have to go a few hundred meters to move from one to the other, and back
yeah, I got my neck & face burned already in glasgow on that trip. it was like the second or third day to sleep a night or two there
only a finn can get sunburned in glasgow? ๐
Or an Eskimo ๐
same thing really, no?
I dunno, I think the Finn's get better Internet
yeah, it was so sunny up there all the time.
where about in winland do you live ryti?
one day in two weeks had it any rain, otherwise sunny and hot
erm, maybe two days actually, now that I recall
anyway, highly unexpected anyway
That's pretty damn unusual for the West coast
I don't live in winland
oh
We average rain every other day
when it doesn't snow it rains? Oh wait, that's us...
Not quite
In Glasgow there are three weather states - about to rain, raining, just stopped raining
Snow and hail are just cold rain ๐
we went a route edinburgh -> glasgow -> fort william -> uig (skye) -> inverness -> ballateral -> ullapool -> aberdeen -> stirling -> edinburgh or alike, it was really nice there outside the cities ๐
and I cannot even spell edinburgh properly
There's lots of glorious countryside out here
Half an hour or so puts me in the middle of Glasgow, or the middle of the countryside
northern england and scotland especially look gorgeous in pictures. Never been, but would love to
Yeah, the Lake District and North are lovely
I read from a book that riding with the royal scotsman is something one has to try. crazy expensive tho
I've not done that myself, but I know the route it takes
but yeah, traveling is great fun
is it driven by regular trains, too?
or parts of it at least?
I think so
Yup, looks like it's just the normal train routes
So, you can get the same views, if you get a window seat, on normal trains
๐ without a balcony in a steam engine train, but something that should be done at some point -- balcony remark only as it sounded so awesome to have a real crib with all of it on a train ๐
About bloody time... It was starting to get irritating having all these firmware issues...๐ฉ
any Docker person around?
I am having a weird issue....I installed Graylog using the following commands```
$ sudo docker run --name mongo -d mongo:4
$ sudo docker run --name elasticsearch -e "http.host=0.0.0.0" -e "xpack.security.enabled=false" -d docker.elastic.co/elasticsearch/elasticsearch:5.6.2
$ sudo docker run --name graylog --link mongo --link elasticsearch -p 9000:9000 -p 12201:12201 -p 1514:1514/udp -e GRAYLOG_WEB_ENDPOINT_URI="http://192.168.2.212:9000/api" -d graylog/graylog:3.0
The issue is I can access http://192.168.2.212:9000/ only from the machine with IP address 192.68.2.212 and not from any other machine in the network. Any thoughts?
Try dropping the links?
sudo docker run --name graylog -p 9000:9000 -p 12201:12201 -p 1514:1514/udp -e GRAYLOG_WEB_ENDPOINT_URI="http://192.168.2.212:9000/api" -d graylog/graylog:3.0
or even better, use the example from the docs:
-p 9000:9000 -p 12201:12201 -p 514:514 \
-e GRAYLOG_HTTP_EXTERNAL_URI="http://127.0.0.1:9000/" \
-d graylog/graylog:3.0
using 127.0.0.1
ok....let me try that
@light trout Still not accessible from other machine http://192.168.2.212:9000/
hmmm... how about -e GRAYLOG_HTTP_EXTERNAL_URI="http://0.0.0.0:9000/" ?
aiit, trying it here now ๐
trying to get my USG logs there
@serene mortar not sure why you r initial commands did not work...
docker run --name mongo -d mongo:3
docker run --name elasticsearch -e "http.host=0.0.0.0" -e "xpack.security.enabled=false" -d docker.elastic.co/elasticsearch/elasticsearch:5.6.9
docker run --name graylog --link mongo --link elasticsearch -p 9000:9000 -p 12201:12201 -p 514:514 -e GRAYLOG_HTTP_EXTERNAL_URI="http://192.168.2.212:9000/" -e GRAYLOG_WEB_ENDPOINT_URI="http://192.168.2.212:9000/api" -d graylog/graylog:3.0
that is what I used and I get access from my workstation (that is not the docker host)
man we are having one helluva heatwave in socal...115F during the day and 90 at night
Here we complain if we reach 90F during the day
Heck, 90F is pretty much the hottest day on record ๐
lol its 102 here atm and muggy as fuck
ye 102 as well at 10:30am....craziness
yep
lol we just got hit with a flash flood watch now
hehe
i'm glad someone else gets the terrible temperatures now instead of me ๐
last 2-3 weeks have either been hovering upper 90s-low 100s with stupid high humidity or storming
Rain here all day too but fortunately only in the 90s
@clever mortar is he around?
Nope @sleek veldt
I'm back now though
Everyone thought you dead! ๐
Nah, just dragged away by work
Why are people so broken!
See on the turning off of lights, I do that accidentally, or just once when in or near the room the prank target is in
Anyone else able to get to the Home Assistant community site? https://community.home-assistant.io
I'm getting "corrupted content error"
clear cache
Where would be the best spot to post about an android app and tablet that would be perfect to use together with home assistant, its not done just yet but I'd love to show the progress somewhere
ah, no ๐
morning ๐
This one seams most fitting https://community.home-assistant.io/c/projects
ahh okay cool i thought that was finished stuff ๐ thanks @rancid lance Hi!
its got lots to go but its very slowly getting there haha, plus ive got no android coding experience so it looks like that part ill be going to freelancer/upwork
Tips for anyone that are working together on the same code :)
https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/services/live-share/
hi there, newb here, with HA and discord, i think im in a room?
See any does/windows?
lol
If yes, probably a room, if not outside or in a dungeon
anyone else participating in the reddit mass ban today lol?
r/thanosdidnothingwrong
๐
ok on the desktop app now, no its a windowless room and i seem to have a straight jacket on
And they gave you a computer with internet access ๐๐
yeah i have to hawking blow on it though heh. srs tho, finally got hass installed on my first gen Pi, took forever i was about to give up
(20 minutes took 2 days)
That one is slow AF :/
Hopefully you didn't install hassio
well i did, but before it finished i ordered a 3 B+ and then i see hassio doent support it??! as usual i have my boots on to wade through days of crap to get anywhere
Okei, so it's only a temporary setup? That may work
yeah when i get the new Pi ill put that old Pi back to Octoprint on my printer
Hassio is not supported on RPI 3+, but HassOS that will replace it has support for that device
i can probably change the order to a regular 3, would that be advisable?
Not really, its a little more powerful
k, as long as there is an alternative i guess its all good. ill play with this old Pi for a bit to get a hang of it. i have about 20 wifi modules around the house already and usiing stock apps is getting cumbersome
There are multiple ways of running Home Assistant on RPi3+ ๐
i see, skimming through messages i see the HassOS is something new devs are making?
welcome to the loony bin
replacement for hass.io
for resinos
better and more streamlined
#330990055533576204 is the channel for hassos ๐
thx man, your name rolls off the tongue nicely btw (im a derp lol)
lol
anyways just click on the link for hassio that i provided in the message above and you will get into the right channel to talk about hassos
๐
cool, ill get the 3+ on wednesday, so i have afew days to familiarize myself with it all. i knew all those years of making macros in online games would pay off in the real world one day
RL macros woot
glhf ๐
helo
since HassOS now is stable, should #330990055533576204 change to hassio/hassos / hassos or a new channel for hassos and keep hassios as is?
Do you still need to reflash the SD card to update HassOS?
I'd ask in #330990055533576204 ๐
whopp whoop my new track was included in 3 radio sets played on various stations
๐
usually when they play sound of silence there is a issue with the transmitter
@last plaza yes it did ๐
@light trout ๐ I can't keep up these days ๐
maybe you need a sensor for htat :P
https://github.com/custom-components/sensor.versions
I disabled that sensor earlier.. I have 3 instances of HA at home, most of them have been configured to auto-update... just the main one I have to install manually
@shy comet not the main one, there are two more instances - one dedicated for RF switches, and another is dedicated to my TV for HDMI CEC... I dont mind if they break ๐
plus, I don't have to go every other week and run update command... saves time
I can always roll back if something doesn't work... I like auto update feature a lot!
yea sounds really neat for specific cases
yup
๐ป
why does it say 9% are you recording precisely how much you drink ๐
avb on the beer
probly in the JSON from untappd
just need to parse it out ๐
lotta shit in those JSON
but fun making my own stuff ๐
next step is to automate my wishlist being sent to me when i enter a bar ๐
The TP-Link Smart Switches are on sale on amazon for $27 https://amzn.to/2N24nHQ
they have 3-way switches too! I should look into them
prime day is coming up. i'm afraid of how much money i might spend...
same here
@amber bramble you better start saving ๐
don't spend all the money in one slot machine
i got an email from one of my CC companies yesterday with a $10 amazon coupon, and an amazon add with a $5 coupon if i install a browser addon
stockpiling coupons to use
wow! what do you have to compromize to get that $5?
probably all your browsing data, but i'm not against installing it in a VM that i only use for Amazon for a week
cool! that's a neat idea
"Install Amazon Assistant and get $5 off your next $25 purchase.
Amazon Assistant is the browser extension that puts Amazon at your fingertips and helps you shop smarter online. As a Prime member, you can get $5 off your next $25 order."
planning on trying to get a couple more kindle fires to wall mount. my goal is to have a wall mounted tablet in each room
last year I got them for $29 each
i got a 3 pack of 8" tablets around that price each last year too
got one in our living room and one in our master bedroom. third one is still in the box because i havent gotten around to running power through the wall for it
thought about building magic mirrors for the bathrooms, but i kind of think i'm just going to put kindle fires above the light switches in there like i did in the other rooms. that way its self contained, has a touch screen, and is a lot less work to build
how do you run power to those tablets? and How do you fix them to the wall? Do you have any special frame made for them? 3d printed like others?
In my living room I took a couple blank wall plate covers and put a neodymium magnet on the back side of them & screwed them to the wall, then glued a couple neodymium magnets to the back of the kindle
Add a bunch of items to the cart and see price changes for any of the item during the sale event... I am guessing they put all the junk up for sale, and some amazonproducts
powering it with a PoE to USB adapter
and a magnetic micro-usb cable
turns out toddlers are really good at grabbing it and knocking it off the wall though...
in the bedroom i bought these to use as the mount instead of the magnets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JV75FC6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
stupid amount of money for no more plastic than they are, but less effort to put together and build
#metoo
The only way to test code ๐
haha yup ๐
that reddit mass ban thing they did is hilarious
in response to Thanos lol
and @odd mason - we haven't seem him for a while now
yea this is true
must be enjoying his hookah at home
hahahaha
lol
lol
did we wake you up @odd mason ?
just been super busy with life
cool... enjoy! sorry, didn't mean to summon you for no reason ๐
hi all
๐
I would have a problem with hassio someone can help me?
yes, there is a #330990055533576204 channel ๐
@silk veldt Did you read the channel topics as I said?
Nah, he started in #330990055533576204 asking if it was for chat
I suggested some reading of channel topics ๐คฆ
messing with you
I'm not enough beers in yet for that ๐
lol
ok I move into the hassio channel for my problems thanks
