I've had one of those "Wink-enabled" fans in my living room for about a year. Relatively little problems except it randomly just shows up as "offline" to the wink hub and requires a power cycle. I added a second fan and had to fight to get it to pair, and now that it's paired neither of the fans will dim lights
No clue how pairing a second fan breaks dimming on the first one, but it somehow did
I'm getting pretty fed up with my Wink hub overall
Only using it for my caseta switches and zigbee fans. Bought a caseta pro smart bridge yesterday so i can move all my caseta stuff off
and now i'm holding out hope that HA's zha component will get support for my fan controllers
yea im waiting for some improvements into zha myself....like battery reporting and energy meter lol
Anyone uses GoPro Hero 6?
@amber bramble do you know if there is a standard in Zwave for controlling fans?
@pure vine there is a fan command class....there are some switches taht support fan control and also thermostats have their own support
they dont have those all in one units like zigbee/wifi....but any ceiling fan connected to a zwave switch will work....probably cheaper than the other units too?
On the fan thing, looks like there is a PR in progress https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/pull/12289
Description:
Adds a ZigBee fan platform. The implementation is based on ZigBee Cluster Library Specification Revision 6 Draft Version 1.0. It has been tested with https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampto...
i hope all the ZHA PR's get approved and merged soon 😃
that should work with all of my fans, woo
now it just needs support for polling or getting the state from the device if its changed from outside of HA
These still the best z-wave plus sensors to purchase - in the US? https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N5HB4U5/?coliid=ISJL2O762U6FC&colid=6MSYXMHBF7MT&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Where you purchase them at?
no need for something so expensive imo
Agreed
i just wait for deals for monoprice
I need more than a few as well
their motion sensors suck
but the door sensors are good
i have a bunch of these: https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=122&cp_id=12212&cs_id=1091804&p_id=15268&seq=1&format=2
@fiery shore i've got the neato botvac, haven't set it up yet. But the main positive seems to be scheduling and rules.
raining outside & you went out with the dog = start botvac when everyone has left home.
another cheaper alternative is xiaomi too < $10 a sensor is really cheap
i've heard great things about the xiaomi but it sucks that u need their gateway
i also have the neato botvac connected and love it
@odd mason thanks!
@shy comet yea, I'm waiting for the damn power converter for the gateway. Going to be testing it.
yea but the gateway costs $20
if you need a bunch of sensors its still cheaper to get it
like more than 5 and you are saving money
@midnight adder thanks.
true but it's another thing on my network
in fact....leak sensors alone make it worth it
do the sensors report pretty instantly?
@shy comet but a gateway always introduces some latency, right? Where these monoprice sensors pair directly with z-wave gateway/aeotec stik.
xiaomi is a zigbee mesh
similar to the phillips hue
they build their own mesh network
i find xiaomi to be a bit more stable than the others lol
@fiery shore not that much latency + not that big of a difference then z-wave USB stick middle layer compared to the hub middle layer.
@odd mason Yep - I know. I run a lot of Hue via hass and it works flawlessly. But I'm just saying .. another gateway to add 😃
i wanna see some videos on the latency
anything that does local control will be really fast in hass based on my experience
@fiery shore exactly....and idk what the range of it is but all my stuff is in the basement
@midnight adder good point.
1second latency is acceptable for almost everything EXCEPT motion sensors imo
those need to be damn near instant
zigbee does get a bit better range but a lot of interference
@odd mason my stuff is in the basement also 😃
@fiery shore let me know how it turns out for u lol
anything from the hub to HASS will be ethernet anyway, that's going to be fast.
i have zha, lightify, hue, xiaomi here
well i have a unifi USG as my router in the basement then 2 unifi AC mesh pros throughout my house
out of the 4 hue gives me the most failures
LOL i started with lightify since it was cheaper than hue and didnt require a hub with ST
never heard of that
hue competitor
oh
@odd mason agreed - need motions to be fast. But the Hue hub does a damn good job with my automations via hass - which includes hue bulbs, sensors and autmation a-la Node Red.
gonna look into that
(aeotec nano dimmers here) happy mostly, but hoping some BLE mesh stuff will start showing up.
i ended up getting the hub to do firmware updates on teh lights
if i manage to sort out the wiring i'll drop the wireless for lights, but till then this will have to do.
@odd mason you purchasing monoprice motions as well?
i dont trust the xiaomi gateway to not turn into a botnet
@fiery shore i bought one but would NOT recommend it
at least not for motion to trigger lights
im holding out hope for zha support for xiaomi sensors
@amber bramble LOL you can use parental controls on it and restrict the internet
@amber bramble can you not firewall it off
@odd mason I haven't seen any BLE mesh stuff out there yet. It's a different beast compared to normal BLE.
once ESP32 sorts out their BLE mesh support in firmware (scheduled to happen in April AFAIK), they'll flood the market.
@shy comet how do u deal with the chinese app?
@odd mason so - what are you using for motions?
is there an english version?
well you select the server as China but the app is in english for the most part
@midnight adder haven't heard of BLE mesh
i didn't research it a lot, does it work locally or require cloud access?
like 80% of it
will look into it
one thing you cant stop is the gateway from talking in chinese when you are pairing a device LOL
it's a zigbee mesh so it SHOULD work locally
i mostly dont trust cheap chinese electronics that are difficult to source 😛
and its one more thing using electricity when i already have 3 different hubs 😦
lol i don't mind cheap chinese electronics as long as i can put them on a separate vlan that doesn't have access to the internet
@odd mason it's in the spec, but not in any home automation hardware yet.
Motorcycle headsets are a good example of where it's used atm.
my wife hates taht i use up all the plugs but we got a small house 😛
in all honesty i wish i heard about xiaomi before i heard about iris
wouldve been cheaper
i do want to buy a bunch of the xiaomi temp and humidity sensors
@shy comet what motions you using? Xiaomi as well? They are super cheap!
@midnight adder ble mesh looks really cool...BUT...still not ideal for presence detection imo
u still need a device
where as with something like xandem, it is device-less
@fiery shore i have cats and dogs....no motion for me 😦
@fiery shore not using anything for motion yet
@odd mason what do you mean device-less? there's always going to be a sensor(motion), beacon or a gateway(BLE/wifi/etc..)
@shy comet ah - got it.
just have some motion security sensors but my security is all honeywell
@midnight adder check out http://xandem.com/
u don't have to have a device on u for the network to detect someone is there
it's expensive but it's pretty awesome
@odd mason that's essentially fancy motion detection.
yes but...better
yep
https://walabot.com/ is also very promising
once i get my existing stuff installed and have time i'll look into one of these
right now i have all this crap i bought that i haven't installed yet
i think most of us have a box of stuff waiting to be installed 😛
lol
walabot is awesome because apparently u can detect minute movements like standing up and sitting down
and idk if people have unique RF signatures but if they do could could detect who is in the room doing what
which would take automation to a whole new level
yea i think fitness trackers should be used more in hass....trigger sleep/wake up....find where in the house you are too
@shy comet I've got so many boxes, I'm afraid to tell the wife. She'll kill me
of stuff waiting to be installed that is 😃
lmao....luckily for me that box was my wife's idea 😄
she doesnt mind this habit since it means i cant say a thing when she wants to buy stuff 😛
lol true
my wife doesn't care about me buying stuff as much as she cares about the mess i make
yea things need to be kept clean lol
what project is this @trail crag
I'm poking around buildroot
Yeah, its a command dont know where from
Why is that funny
It shows that NGINX can run wordpres
Nah, to much effort, and a lot of people know wordpress
Also has anyone in here managed to convince no techies in their family that they dont need ads, basically im going to install pi hole on my network, but my pairents will moan that google search ads dont work and quidco dont work
Yeah, i know
But pi hole has a nice UI
I must accept my fate - I have to run Lutron Caseta in some places due to no neutral wire.
My whole home has not neutral wires in the light switches
So what did you do for smart switches? or did you not? Just went with bulbs?
I just went with ikea bulbs
So you're keeping power to them and using some wireless switch to control them?
yeah, In some rooms like the landing and the living room we use these http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/lighting/smart-lighting/trådfri-remote-control-art-30338849/
Other rooms have alexas in or we use phones
I have Hue bulbs/switches/motions. Same kind of thing. Works just fine, but wanted some smart switches in specific places, like I wanted the Hue bulbs in specific places.
Tradfri require a hub?
To work with home assistant yes
although the bulbs are just zigbee bulbs
so they may work with the ZHA component
Oh really? I do have the husbz1 stick. Works well with the few Sengled bulbs I have
With what? tradfri and zha? I'm not surprised.
@odd mason I'm almost ready to do that. But then realize the cost of Hue gear is the same 😂
How?
wife would kill me if switches didn't work
isn't that like bad for smart bulbs?
nah, i've wired the switches so my bulbs always have power
then i use zwave events to turn them on/off
so the bulbs never actually lose power
ah yes - I've read about this method. Still need those neutral wires though, so I'm still a stick in the mud. lol
yup u still need them
It's all good. I have an electrician coming Saturday. Someone smarter than me may tell me that I can still do what I want. I've got way too much respect for electricity to be mucking around here. Especially since I didn't build the house and don't have enough skills to solve it myself.
@fiery shore Almost all of my smart switches are lutron caseta and we love them
How are controlling them in hass? Like with automations and all? I think I'm making more of a bigger deal than it really is 😃 It's the z-wave hype! 😃
you'll need either a caseta smart bridge or a wink hub to pair them to since they speak a proprietary protocol
i have mine paired with a wink hub. works fine, though the wink can be a little slow to respond sometimes. they just show up as normal light. or switch. entities
i ordered a caseta smart bridge pro a few days ago. I'm going to move them over to it because it can detect when you press buttons on the caseta pico remotes and fire events off in hass, plus it runs locally so it should respond a lot faster
Yea - sounds like the way to go. I have to do some more research on how to rewire the other ends for 3 and 4-way connection types.
no re-wiring if you use caseta 😄
I wanted the Zooz because most of the 3 and 4-way far end switches I won't ever use, but they require neutrals still.
you just put a pico remote in the wall plate
No, but you have to connect terminate them. Can't leave them as wired.
well, let me rephrase that, minimal re-wiring. you basically re-connect it like a single switch instead of a 3 way
yeah, that
that reminds me.. i need to buy a couple more so i can finally finish my house
Ive seen some products that some how only need the hot wire
@amber bramble Why do you need the pro bridge to integrate with hass? Wouldn't the standard bridge be enough?
The pro bridge has a local telnet interface, so it should be a little more reliable and faster
Asking nicely - What does that have to do with anything though? Won't change how hass is leveraged - maybe I don't understand
The non-pro bridge could theoretically get a firmware update that renders the hass integration unusable, or that may require cloud access instead of local control
mostly im trying to avoid internet/cloud dependency as much as possible
but aside from that as far as writing automations and controlling it through hass, it would work basically the same regardless of if you use wink or either of the lutron bridges. the wink integration is a lot more mature i know
Got it - thanks for explaining.
@amber bramble do you know if multiple bridges is OK in hass? I'm going to need more than 50 devices.
I know you can have multiple bridges, but I'm not sure if the HASS lutron component supports multiple ones yet
looks like as of last july it didn't
Boo.. ok
- https://www.superhouse.tv/episodes * https://www.superhouse.tv/28-superhouse-or-superhuman Is home automation just about toys for lazy rich people? I don't...
not entirely HA related but Android P is here
Indoor positioning with Wi-Fi RTT
does this mean native room presence is coming to hass? 😄
If you assume people's phones are glued to them 😛
yea but now you wont need to do the whole find server thingy that peopel like to do lol
not sure how i feel about the new notification design
that might have to grow on me lol
Looks like a logical next step from what's there currently
Nintendo labo is less worthless then I thought https://youtu.be/v2u6wxVHZmk
We go hands-on with the Nintendo Labo cardboard maker kits for the Switch console! Jeremy, Kishore, and Norm spend the day testing out the Variety and Robot ...
@shy comet I dont think Home assistant zones have that much resolution
@pure vine true I was thinking more along the lines of an input_select or something similar
@pure vine how do you like the IKEA bulbs with HASS? do they work well? any issues?
@gusty owl Yeah, they are allright, the only issues i have had are the gateway having a memory leak, that is now fixed as Home assistant now listens for events instead of polling, and if you use tradfri groups you can only set their brightness, Use Home assistant groups for grouping bulbs in home assistant
@pure vine ahhh good tip. are you using the full color bulbs too?
I have one of those
Anyone tested HA with docker and traefik as proxy and for certs?
i'm trying to but it keeps giving me a 502 (bad gateway). I had it working for a bit and i'm not sure what i changed. Want to see my example?
Attention!: Please use https://www.hastebin.com to share code that is more than 10-15 lines. You have been warned, @formal heart!
Please read rule #6 here #rules

It should be enable if this key is even required?
guess its not required then lol
I can't test it atm, but auto generating the SSL certificates for the containers sounds nice. Apache also can do this
its alright but it has its limitations
i think you're best off putting it behind a load balancer
like i'd like to be able to easily reverse proxy services running on another machine, but theres no easy way to do that
might not be a big deal outside ofa home network tho
oh i guess you can reveres proxy services on another machine, i just couldn't figure it out: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46245684/how-to-get-traefik-to-redirect-to-specific-non-docker-port-from-inside-docker
Hey, look royal mail have a API https://developer.royalmail.net/api
and the tracking API is free to use
Gosh, that video is old, I'm confused how Ubuntu got on her laptop
Ive been liking fedora recently
Sonoff T1 with 2ch to homeassistant.
can someone help me configure it?
anyone here setup zoneminder through nginx? having some issues with a Bad Gateway error and I think its more linked to my nginx config
Google now lets third-party products include custom Google Assistant commands
bah, i still don't understand why my fan won't dim
Have anyone looked into Roomba vs. Xiaomi robot vacuums?
Dunno if I should take the chance with the Xiaomi
Hmm, i cant decide if it is a good idea to update ubuntu over ssh
Done it many times - indeed other than Windows servers I've almost never upgraded a system from the console
I've upgraded plenty that I'm not in the same continent as
If you've got LOM access (remote console) then you've nothing to worry about
Even if you don't, unless you've got an unusual setup (obscure storage controller, say) and you're upgrading in the weeks after the release, you'll be fine as long as your hardware doesn't fail
I decided rather than moan about homeassistant setting a point release as required ill just update ubuntu
You could just upgrade Python 😉
Yeah, but i rather have the version from the Ubuntu repos with all the things built
You've got backups off the system you're about to upgrade?
No, I dont realy care about the stuff on the system disk, but i have home assistant backed up on github
And your secrets.yaml and other sensitive stuff?
Secrets are not backed up, but wont be to hard to rebuild
If anything does go wrong i dont care, i was planning to do a fresh start of HA becuse of how messy the automations where
has anyone DIY'ed a video doorbell that can stream video full time and snap a pic or series of pics when the doorbell is pressed and send them to HASS and/or something else like Discord as a notification?
been googling and finding several video doorbell projects but nothing that does what I want. Closest I found required RF and I don't wanna do dat
maybe using motion to stream video and some kinda python program to trigger snapshot and send out notification when the button is pressed and maybe a motion sensor too?
I know I'm not asking a lot here 😃
What is the google core chart libary used for, i thought home assistant changed to chart.js
@last cradle there are a couple of projects that use a usb camera, a pi and a PIR sensor to record. Not door bell triggered but it’s motion triggered
Seemed pretty straight forward, I ended up getting a ring doorbell though
yeah.. I am looking at those now
The usb camera I wanted was so expensive it almost caught up to the cost lol
I've been looking at the Skybell HD but this seems more fun
I'm just thinking of using a pi camera
I’m not sure if the pi Cam can do the live stream
I can’t remember why i didn’t go with that because it’s what I initially looked at when I first researched
I'm thinking maybe using this https://thepihut.com/products/zeroview
maybe running bright ass LEDs where the suction cups are supposed to attach lol
Lol yeah I looked at that, I may still use it for the garage camera
hey all, looking to get my HASS setup back up and running, but was wondering what people's opinions are. I can either run on a pi3 or in an docker on my unraid server.
dwell Docker on the unraid would be better, hass on the pi tends to get slower with the ammount of stuff stored
Hi Guys i just bought a neo coolcam light switch any one have some experience with these switches or similar ones?
Just saw who got 1st place in those awards home assistant got 3rd place in. Pretix definitely earned that award
i either just installed malware or finally found the USB-serial firmware on these knock-off NodeMCU boards
Does someone know if you can get phone notifications from sensors in HA?
@midnight adder definitely. i've used both the HTML5 push notifications with my Android phone and the iOS app. there are probably some ways to accomplish this with SMS as well
Is there a guide i can use to get this working?
@midnight adder sounds like you already have a sensor setup in HASS? if so, look at configuring one of the notification platforms: https://home-assistant.io/components/#notifications
one you have a notification component setup, you can use an automation to fire off a notification when a sensor's state changes, etc
Alright i will try that out, thanks for the help dude
for an example, here is where i send out a notification when one of my doors is left ajar for 5 minutes: https://github.com/patrickeasters/smart-house/blob/master/packages/mqtt_doors.yaml#L21
Can i add you and ask some more questions about sensors if needed?
sure, but feel free to ask in #330944238910963714 as well. others may benefit as well and there are others who can help answer as well
Ye im using general usually but its kinda late and no1 responded and asked here
Hey guys, is there someone who can advice me on Homematic / homematic IP ? and can Home Assistant replace any "access point" ?
And what would you guys advice me? Using demotica over RF / WiFi or is there a possibility to hardwire it (ethernet?)
Hey, I'm writing a few tutorials on diy home automation projects for a new blog, does anyone want to contribute? Can be anything to do with automation from setting up to showing off your current setup with the world!
@Scott#7644 I could give you a bunch of Docker compose examples I’m using for my setup if you’d like
Does anyone here know if he LIFX minis would comfortably fit in an E27 PAR16 recessed fixture?
@TheAK#3061 possibly, Wikipedia has par 16 defined as being 2 inches, but it looks like it has been rounded and the lifx bulbs are 60 mm in diameter
Although their spec page is a bit awful
anyone here have to use elasticsearch queries at work
holy crap, it's possibly the ugliest querying API i have ever seen in my life
I have a sticker of its very cool logo on the back of my laptop, never used it
eww, json
I wonder if someone has made a sql translator for it :P
@odd mason It looks like its entire purpose is for interfacing a database with JS
well i guess ES is a "storage" layer
so it makes sense
i just wish they came up with something not as horrendous
i literally have 6 layers of bool should bool must
that's literally what part of my query looks like
when you make your own using a raspberry pi
When you use a esp8266 or using a opensource product
can mods edit messages?
AFAIK Only delete
yeah, just checked on my bot test server
Lol the original ones were Goblin - remember those?
I have no idea... I don't have that setup yet... Although I prefer button look compared to the lightning icon look
if you set assumed_state: false to each of those switch in customize section, you can see them as "real" switches
i'll check that out
do you see all zones when you login to the web site or via app?
yep
https://my.rainmachine.com/s/<YOUR_DEVICE_ID>/ui/
sure there are no config mistakes/errors?
i just rebooted again i'll check it out when it's light out and see maybe they are misnumbered
i only have 4 zones
lol another reboot fixed it
so weird
i got the 8 zone
mini 8 2nd gen
i really like the look of the HD 12 but i had to make the logical choice...i'll never "look" at it so the look of it doesn't matter
ok...
this was way cheaper
ok... I am planning to do my own sprinklers... just for the front yard
and have plants/flower beds watered automatically - using the same system
ur gonna run the pipes and wire yourself?
yes
I am a DIY guy - love to do it myself
i don't trust myself that much
lol
it took 3 guys about 7 hours to do my front and back yard
problem with sprinkler system is that you have to mow every week 😦
you water it, you trim it - repeat 😃
that's why I just want to do front yard and use rest of the zones for flower beds
i did it for the first month i bought this house...then i just gave up
I bought a tractor a couple of years ago - fun to ride that thing
I had a push mower (self propelled) for 14 years, hated mowing lawn.... it is fun now
nice
i don't trsut myself with big machines like that
i'll do little things like electrical and drywall and stuff
@odd mason did you take pictures when it is being installed?
I could use them 🤣
if you do, please PM me
Anyone know if there is a way to get Google Chrome for android to go full screen without address bar?
Just figured it out. Create a homescreen shortcut and launch it and it shows fullscreen
yup...you can do the same thing on desktop too
although it doesnt seem to do that on a tablet 😦
@last plaza unfortunantely i didn't
but i understand the basic concept. they used hunter valves/sprinkler/and rotor heads
ran PVC pipes from the valve to the various zones, then used flexible pipes to install and position the sprinkler heads
it's not complicated but just time consuming work
DUDE
rain machine is awesome
they have an entire postman collection to help u use their rest api
@odd mason Awesome. I watched so many videos on that. I feel confident that I can do it.
API stuff is cool! With the postman setup!
yea it's pretty awesome...unfortunantely my zone 1 isn't showing up anymore :/
i created an issue with the python package
Ok. Have you checked the issues to see if someone has already reported?
lol @last plaza i needed to update to the latest version
😝
boom
@odd mason control: hidden
@last plaza that's when you get yourself something like this: https://www.wired.com/2016/07/husqvarna-automower-450x-review/
(there are cheaper ones as well, I've got a 500€ something machine and it's good enough)
Awesome! It’s too late, I got it 2 years ago 😩 @midnight adder
@last plaza something with an API/serial that can be integrated?
Are you referring to the RainBird or in general? @odd mason got a rainbird and they have api available and also made the postman scripts for the developers to test the api. Of course it is already integrated with HA and he didn’t really have to do anything special. I’m sure the rainbird component uses that api behind the scene
@last plaza I meant the robot mower.
@midnight adder if the api is available for the mower, you should be able to write a python program to test it. After that, you can create a custom component
That’s how I wrote my custom components - life360, Palo Alto Firewall....etc. they are all based on some sort of api.
@last plaza I got a rain machine
That’s what I meant 😊
@last plaza that was a response to your comment about the grass starting to grow too quickly with the rain machine.
- get rain machine
- see that grass grows too quickly
- get robot mower
- etc...
never ending circle 😃
🤣
How do I display the time passed sisce my MQTT sensor published payload_available: "Connected"?
I'd like to have a time or number of days as an "uptime"
@pure vine I'm 3 miles from two FTTH providers, but neither will expand to the town i live in
Definitely random but sharing in honor of Pi day coming up
I made this last year, it revolves entirely around rpi and hass and rpi put it on their site for Pi day lol
No idea how I missed this one: https://i.imgur.com/4KNHO7r.gifv
based on the meta in it its from highqualitygifs
that one is hilarious lol
Does anyone here have a dell r710 server?
using home assistant in Vivaldi's Web Panels is actually a pretty good way to interact with the Hass UI
just open the side bar to access hass, perfect
Ohh, that quite cool
@orchid rose dude.... that's slick
That would be awesome to pair with floor plan or security cameras. Have one hass page on the left and another on the right
I'm scratching my head on the concept of the light group that is new in 0.65. I have already been using the regular "Group" and from what I can tell, I can control the group as any light. But with services like "homeassistant.turn_on". I'm trying to think of use cases but I'm coming up short. Any thoughts?
It makes i behave more like a light
Colored frontend icon, set color for group
would it not be better to make it a setting for groups then a new module
nice a new pi!
oh colored front end. But you can set color with normal group now via automation.
maybe this is more just visual than functional
I think I see what you mean
but more valuable for the colored lights, not standard soft white
I want to see the POE board in the Pi3B+
Now, today I have a Webinar for Meraki cloud managed switches. I should get a free switch, do I keep it for myself or use it at work?
looks like full hw decoding of x265 needs a new SoC however the new cores can handle software decoding of 4k..awesome....nice to a see bump in RAM too
yea thats awesome
Thought about getting https://pi-top.com/products/ceed for my bos
boys*
are chromecast and google home automatically synced when you play music on them? Seems to be the case for me and I was just wondering if I buy a another google home and/or chromecast audio, will it be synced as well?
@orchid rose yes they can be
can be or will be?
@orchid rose by default they are not, that is something you do in the google home app, you can add them to the same group there...you just need to set it up and it will work as expected
oh gosh i feel like im in the 90's
@odd mason makes it useful for quickly hacking something together
Is 15:11 to early to start drinking?
its 5 oclock somewhere
it would make me feel like ants in my eyes johnson 😛
hrhrhr
@odd mason Nice!!!
just made some delicious low carb pretzels
low carbs cause cancer of the rectum
@dry cairn LOL
@shakuyi#5502 https://www.reddit.com/r/ketorecipes/comments/6yf1gx/keto_pretzels_wbowling_alley_cheese/dmmtyu2/
i skipped the cheese and used marinara
hey grafana pros: any idea why this graph isn't working any longer?
sensor.load_15m works and gives me data...
@gloomy canyon is data still making it into influxdb or did the connection drop out
Other graphs work
thansk @odd mason another subreddit to add to the list lol
they have some good stuff
looks like I found teh reason why gearbest hasnt dont a great sale yet....its coming soon apparently: https://www.gearbest.com/promotion-gb-4th-anniversary-shopping-gu-special-2110.html?1&utm_source=mail_api&utm_medium=mail&utm_campaign=GB_special_180315_1521106048&eo=ORKCkbekOohhEtOO

I wonder what made sony use that as an example
😄
well we all know what happened here ... the dude tried to strangle his gf with it broke the headphones and after he was bailed out he tried to get them warrantied with apple
Wot happened to bruhautomation?
whoautomation?
🤷
Although his voice was downright annoying and cringy, his tutorials were easy to follow and very informative
Home Assistant is in constant chage, static content like videos tend to be out of date fast.
some may work, but the best place to get instructions/ideas is by looking at the official website, and the repos of users that regulary uptade them.
Then suggest edits 😉
@pure vine Even the docs are Open Source and contributions are most welcome 😃
Oh no, look who beat us to Google home integration
Well, given that they kicked their integration discussions off 4 months ago, I'm not that surprised 🤷
We shouldn't be far off now hopefully

Why would some of my Hue lights show available even though I can still control them in the Hue app and in my Floorplan?
asking here because it's the only place I can show the screenshot heh
If they are available, they should not appear as unavailable.
agreed, but they do
well sometimes hue lights show as unavailable but are controllable still...at least that is the case for me
the hue app still lets you send commands
yeah. that's a bug/quirk with hue. my outdoor lights do this all the time. i think there is some status frame which drops but control packets are still getting through
i'm guessing your lego lamp is further away from other ones
you could try placing another bulb in between and seeing if it meshes
the bad thing about this though is that with 65.5 at keast, automations and Google Home are no longer able to control them while "unavailable"
I have not experienced it, but you may want to file a bug report with details.
New bill signed for python developers 😛
Nice

@tardy ridgeShadow I would suggest https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7G4tLa4Kt6A9e3hJ-HO8ng he Also makes great video's
@clever mortar is it possible to skip some tests when making python? test.regrtest has been running for 90 minutes now
(Today I´m installing on a rpi3b+)
Don't think so
It took about a couple of hours all in when I ran it, following my steps
(on 3.6.4)
Pretty sure it installs pip3
Ok, will try. I´m doing a fresh rasbian and manually installing the venv etc
I skipped hass.io this time too
I don´t want the extra overhead of ResinOD
OS
Fresh Raspbian should come with a supported Python 3.5
Yes
Btw, when upgrading packages, will they detect the manually installed python?
When using apt-get
If not, maybe better to stay with the packages
When using apt-get, they'll use whatever they're told to us
It really depends on the package, there's no single answer
Some will be fixed on Python 3.5, some will just require Python 3, or 3.2 or later, or...
Ok, btw is there some way to support you using Bitcoin or whatever, you are always supporting 😃
Maybe a virtual beer or similar
Nah, it's fine - I'm quite happy to just help others, the theory is that at some point you'll be able to help others too, and so it goes 😉
Unfortunately not with me, I tend to forget everything after 5 minutes. Its like self-destruction
For example, right now I don´t remember why I´m talking to you 😃
😄
Thankfully, you can scroll up. Of course, then you'd have to remember why you scrolled up... 😛

There is nothing like the feeling after a fresh install
I will try to keep this installtaion for HA only when when seeing the low CPU usage I tend to add more stuff to the device anyway
LIke Unifi Controller
Upgradee:)
Unusual situation. I bought a harmony remote but our new decoder comes with an RF remote. I've tried to capture RF via broadlink rm pro+ but nothing seems to come up. There is an app that allows for control of the decoder on android. Would someone know of a solution that would allow home assistant to send android app commands or anybody have any clever ideas on how I might solve this?
@everyone does anyone here own an OpenEVSE car charger?
Does HA play nice with crossbar.io on the same python?
@foggy flint Ihad to upgrade my firmware on RM Pro to get it right. https://github.com/CCOSTAN/Home-AssistantConfig/blob/master/config/switch/rf_outlets.yaml#L12
@glossy sluice I only have a Juicebox 40 https://github.com/CCOSTAN/Home-AssistantConfig#garage which works well with HA.. what are you looking to do?

hey can some one help me out with automation old:
@rocky prairie Do please remember to read the channel descriptions 😉
Hey, does anyone use the Broadlink S2 RF433MHz Alarm + Sensors with Home Assistant?
@trim cliff hm, interesting. Is this a firmware that doesn't automatically upgrade, unofficial?
@trim cliff My serial starts with RM3 , could you see what you have? I don't want to brick my broadlink 😄
Hmm had to make this for power my raspberry pi 3B+ , i used a standard 5v 2,5amp power supply but seems like it undervolt and you can see that on the pi when its undervolted when it need more power, so i stipped this 12v adapter and putted a buck converter between it to 5v and now its fixed the undervolt led is solid now instead of flickering ☺
I really wish they would just add 5 to 12V converter to the board and fix this problem
My NodeMCU temperature and humidity mini-project is done 😃 I used a cheap $2 screw box and hot glued the DHT22 on top. The case is a cheap screw box case because the normal project boxes for something like this is now like $10 on Amazon. Don't need to spend more than I have to - and this is in the basement, doesn't matter if it's ugly or not, as long as it works and is protected from bumps.
anyone here used to blender, Can a Nvidia 940MX handle blender? Nah, im going to do it on the desktop in the house
@wise oriole I've started to use stuff like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Black-Aluminum-PCB-Instrument-Box-Extruded-Enclosure-DIY-Electronic-Project-Case-80x50x20mm/32814644326.html bought a couple in bulk and they're very nice for the price
@midnight adder yeah that'll work too, nice and cheap.... the screw boxes are nice because you can get them locally and cheap. plus i kinda like being able to see the onboard led since i have them blink for certain things
i might have to get a couple of those, though
@wise oriole there are different sizes, this is just one i found quickly, If the size fits you can fit the PCB in the built in slots.
you can bring out a led on the front panel, but that means drilling 😃
and wiring an led 😉
I'm lazy when it comes to these smaller projects where the onboard works great
Folks, with devices that support both WiFI and 433, is there a benefit to using 433 instead - via a broadlink or whatever? Just wondering
@wise oriole ac powered?
@gloomy canyon NodeMCU takes 5v, so in that photo I'm using an AC powered 5v output wall wart
I think I'm using an old cell phone 5v 1a charger which works fine
My door Sensor uses an esp32 with a 18650 battery
ah the nodemcu is an esp8266
how long does the battery last?
Hass alarms me when the current is below 3V
Usually 1-3 months
Depends how often i open and Close the door ;)
no grafana for me , what a buggy program , worked my whole sunday on it and have still nothing becouse of the bugs 😡
@wintry crow. 433 is lower power. It's better for battery devices. You also get less attenuation over distance. Downside is you get less bandwidth
@trim cliff I am in the market for a charger and saw both the Juicebox and OpenEVSE were compatible with HA and wanted to see if anyone has experience with them and how well they work. I cant be sure but it seemed that the OpenEVSE was more open than the Juicebox.
@glossy sluice Honestly, the Juicebox gives me everything I need for HA. stats, alerts and information to automate against. Since you have to manually put the plug into the car, other than scheduled charging, I'm not sure what else you might need. https://twitter.com/BearStoneHA/status/975329354686320642

Hi! Does any one know a good fall detection sensor you wear that will work for zwave, zigbee, wireless or BT?
http://upgradeyourspace.com/smart-lawn-mower-with-alexa-voice-control-announced automated gardening anyone?
Folks, the sonoff stuff, I see that FW1.6+ breaks the basics ability to do an OTA firmware flash, but does it still allow you to point it at an alternate site, running the same firmware?
So, another wierd thing,. I cant start Home on my phone, if i factory reset it and use my apple id it works, but if i use my regular backup it wont start, just loading when i start it.
@wintry crow I flashed over Serial, so IDK?
Ok thx @agile sinew, I'm actually looking at creating a dummy sonoff server, so just need to repoint the devices to my own server. The point was to do it without breaking out the soldering iron
i updated my sonoffs without using a soldering iron just FYI, its do-able
@worn jasper: Yeah but apparently the later firmware broke that - made it very difficult to spoof the SSL verification. Seems like nobodys figured out what the new setup is
i mean flashing using serial, i have no idea how the stock firmware works with updating etc LOL
Ah, just holding the contacts on the header?
i just used thin wire and put through each pad and taped to the bottom side LOL, it was ghetto butit worked
Hahah I guess that's all it needs tbh! My issue is I bought a mixed bag - got 2x Sonoff basics that use ewelink, a funky coloured lightbulb that uses Smart Life, and just received a 2 gang light switch that seems to use yet another app. I wanna decouple em all from their respective servers and just run 1 local one
Just messing about at this stage tho lol
yeah thats where something like tasmota is great, just get them all using MQTT and just let hass handle it all
Just need to attack the bulb and light switch with a hammer... 😛
Anyone know of there should be an issue using PWM dimming on a 12v AC/DC led filament bulb?
tztztztz
can someone recommend a super cheap small amp for a multiroom speaker setup with chromecast audio?
yeah....supposed to start today (3/20)
Cool 👌
aliexpress has a sale in 8 days as well
@wintry crow if you get it to work, i'd love that
I'm tempted to get those xinomi IP cams
they are popular
for now i got a few contact sensors, motion and temp sensors
waiting for leak sensors to drop to $10 and hopefully the air purifier willl go to $99 like it was on slick deals a few months back
anything else good in tehre that i may have missed?
I want a few of the temp/humidity sensors, but I'm still holding out for native zha support so i dont have to mess with their gateway
i think if you install yoda-x's bellows branch it will work natively
personally i just got the gateway since it was only $20 lol
hmm 2nd gen vacuum on sale at 450
Look what LG have announced http://webosose.org/
@shy comet there was a flash sale on the s50 vacuum on Sunday. I picked one up.
anyone here use emby
Im having fun setting up gource
gource?
currently have a perl script getting all the advatars of the commiters to the home assistant repo
@pure vine hey that's pretty cool! I'm watching @shy notch hack away in 2013.
At 2016 now
so my arduino is spamming mqtt messages and ha can't keep up with it should I use delay?
nvm, kek, im tired... the update line is misplaced
On that uber crash, do we know if the LIDAR(the spinny thing on top) was on
Turning on lights and plugs etc is ok but I wanna push these Smart home Modules a bit further so here I'm building a shaking bed for my son then next week I ...
Runs cooler, much faster networking, CPU is between 10% and (about) 20% faster depending on the benchmark
That's pretty nice
oh, it was years ago since I read something on phoronix 😃
more power draw, though
new stuff from china to play with 😃
2 motion sensors from like 11 dollars ea , and thay already work with HA 😄
@mellow flower what are they?
anyone here running nextcloud? debating on setting it up alongside zoneminder and hass
damnit Gearbest.....woke up to a notification that the leak sensors dropped below 10 and 2 hours later.....nothing....wonder if it was a price mistake
😭
ok so had comcast (bill doubled) got out and went to DirecTV - on demand NEVER worked - so cancelled ........ what do people use for streaming TV (DirecTVNOW, Sling - what are the boxes they use (Amazon Fire TV, ROKU, Native TV Apps)?
if you don't care about legality you can look into IPTV
will save you money, but if you require things to be stable may not be for you
Hey @slim vortex where is your live stream from yesterday?
I accidentally hit the "start streaming" button instead of the "start recording" button.
I was just getting some screen capture for my DIY smart lock video.
Just accidentally sent an alert to 7000 people. no big deal 😖
If I do that again I'll just let it run. It probably would have been cool to just chat while I was working on the video.
DIY smart lock? that sounds so awesome!
2 different styles. 12v Magnetic locks, controlled by Sonoff SV with Tasmota. $25 total build vs $200 for the retail "smart" locks.
@shy comet IPTV, will have a look, thanks - needs to pass the wife test whatever is chosen (reality channels included 😦 )
@wraith temple if stability is of concern then you will need to stick with cable as channels can do down, however if you can download all the shows that she cares about then it might be a win win scenario lol
@shy comet i can feel the plex server is coming out of retirement 😉
yea but i get spoiled by having commercials stripped out
its annoying to have to fastforward
true - never really looked into the commercial stripping - as a Brit in the US, was a great opportunity to put the kettle on a make a cuppa 😃
thats a nice idea, how are you mirroring (and speaking of mirrors - next bigger project is the bathroom smart mirror)
so I use Kodi locally and Plex externally
there is an awesome Kodi add-on called Kodi Video Mirror
lets your master instance play on the slave instances
works really well and its a cool party trick
Bored so setting up an Earth day automation to turn off the lights at 8:30 every year on 22nd, send a notification. Wonder how can easily return state afterwards without turning all on ??
@shy comet that is cool - i saw this https://getpanl.com/ and immediately wanted to build - thinking of creating a thin ish mirror, in front of the bathroom mirror - so can watch the news, check headlines, twitter when brushing teeth (max out those 2 mins lol)
(ignoring the time it will take me to build it ha)
magic mirror not fit the build?
for a mirror I can see it being a disaster! too many finger prints, at least in a busy household
yeah - that was 1/2 my thinking, other 1/2 was smudge proof material. trying to think about a screen and how i'd interact with it without touch - i guess unless its set up the right way. but how would you watch an NBC/BBC news video from a headline say?
depends... I've got a few ideas on that and am thinking about a magic mirror build myself! I personally think the more automation in a smart home, and the less remote control, the better! On the rpi have it pick up the BLE token on your phone at a certain strength in the morning and load the news maybe?
or a PIR on the GPIO on the pi to just pick up motion, would just need to find a stream then of the headlines and have it activate ever time it senses a change
cool, i wondered if a pi camera could do face detect so if you shared mirrors, different dashboards are shown
as quite frankly i dont care what happened to the kardasians over night lol
very wise JB! I don't see why not if you had something capable of face detection
i still cant help think that you may want to switch between various things, and without touch could be tough.... did you see this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh2EJzplkpM
If you want this in your home, you can sign up for the mailing list here: http://getpanl.com/ This is a real working mirror running a software that I built. ...
If you really want a touch screen I think a fire 7 in kiosk mode is about as cheap of a suitable you can get at the minute
the nest and volume is very cool
yeah, very impressive.. Years ago I have a kinect jerry-rigged up to a windows media center pc that was sort of an attempt at a Minority Report interfact.. it was just horrid
ha nice
I wonder if a Leap would make an interesting control mechanism for something like that
interesting idea, only seen their little puck - typically underneath a screen though - so may be in danger of getting wet
Lol clingfilm actually works a treat to waterproof stuff - I used it to wrap a bathroom TV. Low voltage and had no fans so airflow wasn't an issue
either that or WD40.. solves all things water related
WD40, No-nails, and duct tape. With those 3 things you can take on the world
Oh and silicon sealant 😄
can anyone help me out with this

random question alert: I bought a hue hub on a whim before I realised there were things like sonoff toys. Can I use my hue for anything funky, or is it a paperweight?
hue scores a 10 on the funkometer no need to add more funk then it will be completely broke
Hahah is it rubbish then?
wel it depends on what you doing zigbee and zwave can fail due to wifi interference plus i didn t have a good experience with it i dumped zigbee and zwave and went all wifi
Yeah I'd prefer WiFi all round tbh. However, being honest this is a new hobby, so the emphasis is on keeping the cost minimal until it becomes part of my natural life. Now I've found remote CH controllers that work on 868MHz hahah, need to see if there's any HA integration 😛
Ohhhhh I have an old MCE remote IR blaster... Since I have dumb TVs that might be my next project, see if I can control it from HA to get it to turn my Tv on/off and change input between Youview, Roku and Chromecast
hello, was planning on upgrading my 7 years old laptop, and was wondering what brand or laptop do you suggest for long term usage, and what specs (used for big data analysis and work and a little gaming). was thinking between lenovo or Dell .... Thanks 😃
Both are good brands., I've used both. In either case, I'd suggest getting one that charges over USB C, and supports external video over USB C
Depending on your definition of big data, 16 GB of RAM and i7 may be what you're after (along with a large SSD)
oh thank you 😃
Got my problems flashing tasmota via ftdi.. any tips?
connect it right
Haha - Jea - its like always - when i ask it works
but the problem is still the same
its on, but restarts every 30 secconds with a click

Folks, I know Win aint supported, but anyone had any joy using an MCE blaster to control a dumb TV - via HA of course is the end goal, but first steps? I installed the drivers, installed EventGhost, which sees the keypresses on the remote, but when I try to teach it my TV remote it locks up
and its discouraged to use it on win because of known breaking problems
i'm afraid help for anything ha on win is not gonna be easy to get
FUUUUUUUUCK broke the button
Im working in the dark - wife want to sleep and ive got phe pc in the bedroom

Who does the blog posts?
@last plaza so just getting round to building the motion from a camera + pi (and adding a push button using this https://github.com/flyte/pi-mqtt-gpio ) any thoughts on platform to record or stream video to another device/URL (possibly a video message in HA)
i could also just use BlueIris (as it now supports MQTT)
Pi camera -> BlueIris -> HA
button press -> MQTT -> HA
Motion from BlueIris (or pi) -> MQTT -> HA

Okay trying to see if somebody can help me out with this one
So on the device turns on and reports to homeassistant
so when
like this
But when the device disconnects from the mqtt I need it to say cleared meaning to device has powered off esp8266
Any help would be appreciated and so on the device turns on I get a detected like shown in the picture but when the device turns off it just continues to say detected I needed to say clean or no fire or no detection
what happened?
does anyone use portainer for docker?
@vale shale I do
ok I was just curious on who has it. Pretty awesome when paired with watchtower.
I'm trying to figure out how to extract api calls from a cordova angular app. It's an app to control the tv decoder via android etc... Unfortunately the remote is using RF to control the decoder so I was thinking I could write up a python script to authenticate and send commands through. However I've hit a bit of snag. In the developer toolbar the requests seems to be made through google analytics. For every keypress I get something like this: https://www.google-analytics.com/r/collect?v=1&_v=j66&a=1338806764&t=event&ni=0&_s=1&dl=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.rikstv.no%2Fapp%2Fuse%2Fremote&dp=%2Fapp%2Fuse%2Fremote&ul=en-us&de=UTF-8&dt=RiksTV%20App%20-%20Styr%20din%20smartboks&sd=24-bit&sr=1792x438&vp=1792x438&je=0&ec=Fjernkontroll%20klassisk&ea=Trykk%20p%C3%A5%20knapp&el=INFO&_u=SACAAEAB~&jid=1199338602&gjid=1309829752&cid=400005654.1000468952&uid=fb5892a9c624be144b21bf3433fsdlkg8345690230ba&tid=UA-2513164-9&_gid=199000279.1522009809&_r=1>m=G3kPCBXDR&cd1=yes&cd7=BarnasFavoritter%2CCMoreFilm%2CCMoreSport%2CRiksPakken%2CTV2SportPremium&cd13=desktop%20app&cd14=yes&cd18=true&cd20=fb5892a9c624be144b21bf3433fef3f14f9290ba&cd10=428105654.1519468952&z=1711564863
So it seems to be passing the requests through google-analytics unless I am missing something. Is there anyone who knows a bit about this and have any suggestions how to find out more how the api calls are made?
If all else fails, I've successfully ran remote commands by using selenium but I don't know how nice that would wrap up as a home-assistant component.
They don't even support and the don't want to support my logitech harmony. I've also got a broadlink rm pro but no rf signal is coming up. That's why I'm trying this approach 😃
I've also tried to copy as curl and import it into postman to see if i could run it but it's not the correct enpoint. Probably masked somewhere I don't know.
TIL that my new LG TV uses pulse audio
Hi guys, I would like to implement some Webcams from this site: http://www.livespottingmedia.com/ in my home assistant frontpage, does somebody know how I could get this to work?

since this is a random chat , can I ask , are there any hardcore Xiaomi smart ecosystem users? I'd like to verify if their automations via Xiaomi's app (MiHome) send result notifications to their phones. Mine was working fine when one day it just -stopped- and I haven't received a single notification since , though all automations run just fine.
Does anyone know any sonoff style switches but with dimming?
@orchid rose what kind of lights do you want to dim? LED or Incandescent? The dimming process is different
I've been tinkering with a dimmer board, but it only works with incandescents
oh, didn't realize this was the random chat. Did you ask in the General channel? may be more people listening there.
well it's a bit of a random question 😛
but no I didn't
what sort of a dimmer board?
I currently have some RF controlled dimmers but I'd like to phase those out sooner or later for a faster, more reliable and more secure way
Guys any AppDaemon users here? I keep getting "warning appdaemon hass disconnected from home assistant"

I need more scenarios, so that we can expand collection
variables inside a loop is usually the painful part
@last plaza been looking at IPTV based on your recommendation, VERY interesting!
On a fireTV too
IPTV is awesome who r u guys using?
beams-tv
@wraith temple I don't recall recommending IPTV 😃 I'm curious what you got going there!
@dry cairn How do you pay for it?
he is an ISP - bandwidth and the channels are free for him
create an account on their site
you guys should look into Vader Streams 😉
vader streams is free?
naw they charge but you get a lot of channels from all over the world including all PPV and EVERY.SINGLE.SPORT.
almost 700 english speaking channels not including sports
canada, uk and us and like 40 other countries too i think
hey gus, a bit offtopic question - do anyone of you know a good client-side free anti-spam solution that kinder intercepts between isp and a pop3/imap client ?
I think most of the major AV products do that in their paid version. For free once upon a time I ran fetchmail to retrieve remote email, passed it through a local SMTP server with spamassassin and then would point the mail client at the local IMAP/POP server
@shy comet How long have you been using vaderstreams? I've considered it but am a little wary of it not working during 'big' games
would hate to have ppl over for a game and have the stream crap out
i am actually using MyStreams which is a Vader Streams reseller. Originally it was part of SmoothStreams and I had them for almost a year. New service is much better
to be hosnet you have to put up with streams crapping out
taht happens with all services
cable's $100 tax is purely for stability IMO
its been getting better but all these services have that issue
there was a movie in the 90s about infinite cable channels and it never came to be, always wanted something like these services and there is no legit way to pay for that level of service
trade offs 😃
yea exactly
im not that big on sports and if the show/movie is important to me I have other means to get it lol
not a big believer in piracy taking money out of the mouths of anyone. For years my friends have known I probably saw a movie or show before they did and have asked me for recommendations
they buy the media and I send them to get it lol a tastemaker of sorts
ahah
