Out of interest I've seen mentioned (and heard on the podcast) there is a podcast component? Is it a custom one that need to be manually added? As I cant find it on the components list on the website? Does it let you play the podcast? or just notify you that a new version is available?

Projects can be created from the GUI and used in commandline mode for easy automation of video production. Create a template project named template with your typical visualizers and watermarks, and add text to the top layer from commandline:

Could I humbly submit that when you guys do the podcast, the intro music you have is much louder than the host microphone volume and makes it difficult to hear. Either lower the volume for the music or wait for it to finish before beginning ?

I'm actually looking at HappyBubbles for BT Presence; I think @abstract pagoda brought it up, but @hybrid steppe did a great video on it. NMAPing my phone, etc def isn't great for battery life, and I almost always have my phone (iPhone - which has iBeacons) on me so that would work

@flat ivy what about the other way? Checking if your iPhone is nearby by scanning for Bluetooth devices. The iPhone doesn't even need to be paired with home assistant. This is what I use to detect if we're home, in combination of what's connected to our WiFi network.
Otherwise with ibeacons the iPhone would need to send something out when it is in range of the ibeacons, right? Which would also be bad for battery life

@summer forum there is a dual zigbee and Zwave USB radio that works with HASS. however it is US only I believe.
I am also looking into Xiaomi devices. From my initial research it looks like once you've paired with your app, and got the token for HASS to use, you can block the gateway from internet access, as all communication between HASS and the gateway is local

I honestly don't even really need something like HASS. I just like to play with it.
My GHome and Echo control the lights for me and the cameras all go to iSpy since my Server running ZoneMinder crashed again. I spent the evening setting up Plex, Sonarr and Nzbget on my laptop until I can figure out what went wrong with the server. Gotta keep the family entertained

yeah, its their own proprietary one though; but man...its so easy, and it works really well
I have a bunch of Linear Z-wave switches right now, I'm going to get rid of those and go native Lutron if I can; they're so much slimmer too
the wall-boxes I have are tiny, so I had to use wall box extenders wherever I have the Z-wave switches

and for some reason (I think its some stupid by-law somewhere) they never pull the power switches into the guest bathrooms (my parents' house is like that too; but they put a 3-way switch there). My guest bathroom doesn't have any switches inside it for lights/exhaust 😐 so the Lutron has pico-remotes which work really well

Yeah I have our guest bathroom with the switch on the outside. Every other room has the switch on the inside. It's amazing how many times people leave that switch on because its on the wrong side of the door

I would say that with a bit of planning ahead of time, making the "podcasts" should move to a HA YouTube channel. This way, it is coming directly from our community and Devs and there can be monetization on the videos. Also nice to have it on YouTube as a major source instead of a podcast tucked away somewhere obscure. (as far as searches and new community members would be concerned)
There is nothing to say that the "podcast" portion of things couldn't go up as per usual since the recording would be happening anyhow.

Just an idea. I figure even if it only a little bit, the ad revenue wwould be helpful and become more so as the community grows. Making a presence on YT also makes it to where more people would hear about HA. Could likely have BruhAutomation plug us on his channel and direct people to ours. This would help in getting a starting base of viewers and a regularly updated place to see what is new etc.

Like I said, I just thought it would be a great tool. You could have things like a day of the week for an instructional video that focuses on a specific component and just record a screenshare session with audio and whatever. Would be nice.

Yeah I've had the discussion about use of the brand etc with both Paulus and Dale, and the decision was it's not possible.
Bottom line is, with all respect and appreciation for your suggestions, I already sink a huge amount of money and time into this podcast, and the co-hosts/guests put a lot of time in, so additional cost or time is not really something I want to do. We are just volunteers doing this for fun after all.

Hi gys, you always end up mentioning something about securing your setup to prevent unwanted access and touch on a few ways of doing it, but it would be great to hear an extended discussion on how to do this. It seems like the base of the HA community are developers of some kind, or work in IT (like mysefl) so are comfortable tinkering and understand the jargon, but as this community grows there will inevitably be many people who are relative "noobs" at these things and I just thought it mught be useful. Personally I'm in the middle of setting up a pfSense router and restricting any traffic that doesn't come from CloudFlare as they are my ddns provider (and also give me SSL at the same time) I'm hoping this is a good place to start but you can never be too careful so keen to hear more views 😃
