because mojang shut down classic server heartbeat in like 2014. you can "fix" it either by disabling verify-names in server.properties, or fix it by proxying the server to betacraft.uk (-Dhttp.proxyHost=betacraft.uk). after that, you're able to join from the betacraft launcher

use -Dhttp.proxyHost=betacraft.uk as jvm argument for starting the server
